New bind is a rebind of one of my favorite childhood books (and series). I actually wanted to throw this in the fire bc the HTV took me FOUR fucking hours, but overall it turned out neat.

The sun is out, quickly gotta grab a blanket and do a photoshoot of my latest rebind.
Villains Are Destined to Die Manwha rebind, volume 1 - 3!
I decided to keep the original logo design because I like it a lot. The backside features the Eckhart family crest, which I found on an official merch product in Korea. The quality was bad though so I had to redraw it.
I did not want to design 3 different covers for each volume (especially since the series is still on going and more will be released), so I simply changed the volume number

rebinding: valdemar. (books that blooded me)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm still practicing my case binding and struggling but im genuinely pleased with this series of paperback rebinds. collected from a couple of library sales over the past many years (i still have my original hardcovers, too), i've taken a near-complete set of mercedes lackey's valdemar series and begun rebinding them as hardcover for a binderary project.
this is a basic flatback style. i stripped the paper covers, added mull and endbands to the spines, tipped on endpapers, and created cases for each book. the series is divided up into (mostly) trilogies so i set on a spine color for each trilogy. i chose a single font for the decorations and i scanned the paper covers to preserve the classic 90s jodi lee artwork. the artwork was printed on iridescent sticker paper and attached to the covers a paper well technique from DAS bookbinding. on the back of each book is a small sigil i designed for the main character(s) of each series.
i'm about halfway through. wish me luck!!
**i say 'books that blooded me' in the spirit of a devoted fated mates podcast listener. a lot of mercedes lackey has not aged well--the larry dixon of it all is A Problem--but these books installed a lot of buttons in me and i still love them. there is a simplicity and sense of joy i get from reading them--still.

Songs of Love & Death
Sneak peak at one of my next rebinds. These are some draft cover designs that I plan on printing onto white bookcloth. The pattern is quite like azulejos isn’t it? Or blue patterned porcelain.
The book is a collection of short stories by a bunch of different authors including Neil Gaiman, Jim Butcher, Majorie M Liu, Jacqueline Carey, and many others. And the book is edited by George RR Martin and Gardner Dozois.
I have two paperback copies I will be rebinding, one of which is a mass market paperback, which is extra thick, so it’s gonna be something new for me. Assuming I don’t mess up badly, both copies will be given as Christmas gifts. One will go to me fiancé, because he’s a fan of Jim Butcher, and he’s read all of Dresden Files. The other will go to my sister, because she’s read the Phedré series by Jacqueline Carey.

HxH Manga Rebind [Master Post]
I'm rebinding the Hunter X Hunter manga using fine bookbinding techniques! :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a way for me to get back into bookbinding after uni, and a project space for me to explore new techniques and hone my craft without worrying about messing up client/for sale work.
I got the idea to start rebinding hxh after noticing that my modest collection (v1-6) somehow ended up with my brother... and thought it'd be funny to steal them back and rebind them, one-by-one, until they turned into a fine collector's edition of sorts.
HxH is by far my favorite series, so I really like the idea of doing something special to my set. It'll take a while, but I definitely will continue to buy v7 and onwards as I work my way through!

Part Seven | Series Masterlist
- - - - -
“Layla?” Your voice sounds as weak as you feel as you look up at Layla. Her face full of concern as she moves the blanket that Harrow used to cover you.
“Oh thank God” she breathes a sigh of relief, helping you to get up out of the car. “What did he do to you?”
“I’ll explain later. We have to stop him!”
Layla explains her plan to you as the two of you make your way up the side of the pyramid to the opening created by Harrow. Get inside, find and realise Khonsu. Hope that he can somehow bring Marc back. The weakness in your body caused by his staff makes you stumble on the bricks a few times, but Layla helps you and eventually you make it inside the pyramid. Avoiding Harrow and his disciples you find the place where Khonshu’s ushabti is kept. You peer around the wall to see Harrow smash Ammit’s ushabti on the ground. Bright purple smoke swirls through the tomb as the giant crocodile goddess appears. Harrow and his disciples kneel before her. She is terrifying.
“Got it!” Layla say as she grabs Khonshu’s ushabti, places it on the ground and stamps on it. Smoke pours out of it and forms a tall figure with a bird skull for a head, holding a large crescent moon staff. He looks down at the two of you.
“I do not sense Marc Spector in this world. He died fighting no doubt.”
“Fighting your war!” Layla replies angrily.
“Can you bring him back?” You ask.
“I don't know. If Marc is truly gone, I am in need of an avatar. Would you Layla El-Faouly protect the travellers of the night…”
“Are you joking?!” She hisses. “You turned Marc’s life into a waking nightmare. Why would I ever sign up for that?”
“Because you won’t win against Harrow and Ammit alone.”
“I’ll take my chances.”
Khonshu looks at you and you just shake your head. He sighs.
“Marc was in crisis over you two. His lack of focus got him killed. You need a plan, little bugs. What I offer…”
“I don't care what you can offer. Marc didn’t trust you. We don't trust you.” Layla takes a step closer to him now. “We will work together without you enslaving us.”
“We must rebind Ammit. Only an avatar can do it.”
“We said no.”
Khonshu sighs before disappearing in a swirl of smoke. You peer back around the wall again in time to see Khonshu appear in front of Ammit, blocking her and her disciples from leaving. Harrow looks around.
“There’s someone else here. Find who released him.” Harrow orders and his disciples split off to start searching.
“Khonshu’s just given us away. We don't have much time before they find us.” You whisper to Layla as you move back behind the stone wall. “We need a plan.”
Layla takes a look around the wall before turning back to you. “Osiris’ avatar is still alive. If I could get to him he may be able to help.” You move closer to her, peering around to see the injured man struggling to drag himself across the ground. Looking around you see two of Ammit’s disciples getting closer.
“They’re getting closer.”
“We need a distraction.” Layla thinks out loud and you get an idea. You don't like it and you're not totally sure it will work but it’s all you’ve got right now.
“Okay.” Is all you say before you move to step out from behind the wall.
"What are you doing?” Layla grabs your arm. “They will kill you.”
“He won’t.” You look her in the eyes. “Harrow won’t hurt me.”
“He already has, I mean, look at you. You can barely stand.”
“What other choice do we have? If they get to that man they will kill him. If they find you they will kill you too. But Harrow…” you pause, not wanting to admit what you're about to say “Harrow has feelings for me. He admitted it. He won’t let them hurt me.”
“Are you sure about this?” Layla asks after a moment.
“What other choice do we have?” You repeat, sadder this time and Layla just stares back at you. She knows you're right. “Do what you can to save them.”
Layla nods and gives you a hug before you pull away and step out. You take a few short painful steps before the two disciples spot you and come running over, harshly grabbing your arms and dragging you away. You glance over your shoulder just in time to see Layla pulling the injured avatar to safety. At least the distraction worked.
— — — —
“We found her.”
“Y/N?” Harrow looks at you in horror. “How are you here?”
“Guess I’m stronger than you think.”
“And who do we have here?” Ammit clicks and the disciples holding you push you to the ground, forcing you to kneel. You wince as your knees hit the cold stone floor and you keep your head down, not wanting anyone to see the pain on your face. You feel a clawed hand stroke the back of your head. “Look at me, little weakling.” When you don't do as she says, her fingers grip your hair and pull you head back so your forced to look up at her scaly green face. Her yellow eyes piercing into yours. “I recognise you. I’ve seen your scales before. And yet here you are, still breathing… Why is that?”
She whips her head to the side to face Harrow, but her grip remains firm on you.
“My goddess, forgive me.” Harrow says. You glance at him, he looks visibly shaken.
“You kept this one alive?” Ammit asks and Harrow nods. “ Despite my orders. Explain yourself.”
“He kept her alive cause he fancies her.” A voice in the crowd calls out before Arthur has chance to speak, one of the disciples steps forward. “I’d have happily done it for him, but he told us anyone who hurt her would be dead.” You understand now why everyone avoided you at meal times and around the camp. Harrow had threatened them.
“It’s true, I do have feelings for her.” Harrow says. “My heart cares for her more than anyone I have encountered before. And that has stopped me from carrying out my duty to you, my goddess. I understand if you decide that I am unfit to be your avatar and choose someone else to carry out what lies ahead.”
“Hmmmm” a low, almost growl like hum comes from Ammit as she loosens her grip slightly, caressing your hair as she thinks. “You are only human.” She moves her hand around to stroke your face “All humans have weakness, and she is yours.” She lets go of you and you slump down slightly, your body aching still kneeling on the ground as she walks toward Harrow. “Up until now you have proved yourself to be loyal, you have judged a great many unbalanced souls in my name. Therefore you won’t be punished.”
“Thank you goddess-” Harrow starts but Ammit places one of her large fingers on his lips.
“But there is something you must do before we continue.” She leans down close to him and whispers something, causing Harrow to widen his eyes as he stares at you. She holds out her hand. A small ornate dagger appears in it.
“I can’t.” Harrow is shaking.
“You must.” Is all she says as she hands him the dagger and steps back to watch. He looks at you and you know what she has told him to do.
He has to kill you.
“You don't have to do this.” You say quietly as he begins to slowly walk towards you, gripping the dagger tightly in his trembling hands. “Remember what you said to me in the car, what you told me. Why you kept me alive.”
“She doesn’t deserve this, she hasn’t done anything wrong.” Harrow says, turning his back on you to face Ammit.
“But she will.” Ammit replies.
“Spare her. Please.” He stands in front of you now, almost shielding you from her view as you cower on the floor behind him. “I beg you goddess, spare her life like you spared mine and I will never question you again.”
“She has to die.”
“WHY?!” Harrow shouts now. “What could she possibly do in the future that is so bad that she deserves this?!”
“She will be the one to kill you.”
An eery silence falls on the room.
“No” you say quietly as you try to stand, your legs wobbling under you “no, no, I- I wouldn’t do that. I wouldn’t kill anyone. I couldn’t, Arthur I would never-”
He turns to face you, the shock making you stumble backwards, you trip over yourself and fall back down.
“You love her, but she doesn’t love you.” Ammit says. “I’ve seen in her heart. She doesn’t even like you. She pretends to tolerate you so that you’ll keep her alive. But in the end, she will betray you. And it will be your undoing.”
“She’s lying.” You stare up at him as he stands over you. There’s pain and betrayal in his face. He believes her. “She’s manipulating you Arthur!”
“How long have you known me? How long have you known her?” Ammit purrs as she comes to stand behind Harrow. “When have I ever lied to you?”
He continues to look at you without speaking.
“I’m not going to kill you.” You say, shaking your head. “Please… Arthur…”
He holds his empty hand out for you to take. You let out a small sigh, placing your hand in his. He gently pulls you up so you're almost standing face to face with him, and you give him a small smile.
“I’m sorry.” He whispers, a quick flash of purple light in his eyes.
Suddenly the wind is knocked from you as the dagger plunges into your stomach. You place your hands where the pain is, looking down to see them coated in red.
“Arthur…” you look back at him again in shock, Ammit’s face smiling over his shoulder as you drop back down to the ground, curling up on yourself into a ball.
“Now you have proven your loyalty to me, we can begin to cleanse the world.” Ammit says, turning her back on you and walking towards the exit. Harrow continues to look down coldly at you for a moment before turning away and following Ammit out of the tomb, leaving you to die.
You hear your name and roll over just in time to see Layla running towards you before you can no longer keep your eyes open and you finally slip away into darkness.
the end
...just kidding... Part Nine :)

RAKSURA TIME! I live for this book series, guys, I know murderbot really caught the internet's attention, but Martha Wells wrote such a good fantasy series before that, I highly recommend.
First up, we've got a fusion fic! Imagine ffvii. Imagine cloud. And then just.... superimpose him onto moon. It matches so well. And then you just need to stack a good four loving husbands on top of him to love and cherish him deeply! Look. I promise. Just read the Raksura Core series, there's even a fresh new au of an au that didn't make it into this edition, so I'm gonna be rebinding this at LEAST once more in the future.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, pure raksura fic! How River Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Moon. River.... River. He's exactly my kind of character, which means he's an asshole who almost burns down his whole life in ways that are largely but not wholly self-inflicted and I derive great, GREAT joy by watching him attempt to scrape the ashes back together and seek personal growth and happiness. I find it so, so rewarding. I ran out of gold foil this week, but I may be attempting some more elaborate cover decoration one more arrives, only the best for my best boy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then some miscellaneous short stories from the author's patreon! I live in a state of perpetual low key stress over the impermanence of digital media and that goes extra for sites that aren't designed to work well as archives. I hope, desperately, that someday Martha Wells publishes more raksura, maybe even including these stories! I will buy it immediately. No thoughts, wallet empty. I own all her other raksura books in literally three formats, fingers crossed that by printing this, I can actualize a formal official printing of these stories by the author 😂

Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat
Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos. But when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave. Beautiful, manipulative, and deadly, his new master, Prince Laurent, epitomizes the worst of the court at Vere. But in the lethal political web of the Veretian court, nothing is as it seems, and when Damen finds himself caught up in a play for the throne, he must work together with Laurent to survive and save his country. For Damen, there is just one rule: never, ever reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else…
I have been wanting to rebind Captive Prince since I started looking into fic binding and I’ve finally finished book one! I’m undecided on whether I’ll finish the rest of the series, but book one, at the very least, needed a hardcover edition!
I took my inspiration from Penguin’s faux leather bound editions for the cover design, choosing shackles as the main design element. The cover material is brown faux leather with gold HTV foil. Endpapers are Indian marble from Hollander’s.

Here Be Demons #1
Ok, so apparently at some point I wrote like 5k words of exorcism based whump and just. Never posted most of it. I’m going through and editing/rewriting to try and warm myself back up to writing regularly. Also lemme know if the formatting is fucked up I’m posting on mobile :)
Contains: implied religion, demonic possession, exorcisms, ~1k words
The blood was evaporating from the walls.
That was a good sign. Ariel finished packing his equipment into his canvas bag and stood, watching as the last of the bloody writing lifted from the rough wood planks. It left faint pink stains that luckily weren’t readable. His patient was slumped limp in the chair Ariel had bound him to, head lolled forward onto his chest. Ariel cautiously walked over, checking over the runes on the manacles for any deformities or changes to the script that would nullify the binding. None stood out. After another second of consideration he unlocked the cuffs, the risk of needing to rebind outweighed by the hope that waking up unrestrained would be less stressful to his client than the other way around.
As the manacles clunked against the hard wood chair the man groaned, eyelids fluttering. Ariel backed away a few steps, one hand on his pendant as the man raised his head.
“Hey, it’s Simon, right? How’re you feeling?”
The man looked up, eyes searching the empty barn before settling on Ariel. He had developed dark circles that could be mistaken for bruising, and his lips were dry enough to crack and bleed when he opened his mouth to respond.
“Yeah, better,” Simon’s voice sounded as dry as his lips looked.
Ariel offered him his water. The man gulped it down, wiping his mouth off as he handed the emptied skin back to Ariel.
“Thanks. Did anything happen? Is anyone hurt?”
Ariel shook his head at the common question. “No one got hurt. You’re lucky you have a wife that listens to her children, they’ll almost always notice before anyone else,”
Simon smiled and let Ariel help him to his feet. He was trembling, and leaned on him as they began to walk back to the house. Ariel would tell him to take it easy for a day or two if he could.
“Let’s go let everyone know you’re alright, and then I’ll give you some temporary wards so nothing can hit you when you’re down.”
They entered the house where Simon’s family was waiting. As the door closed behind them, Simon’s wife, Jess, peeked around the kitchen door frame. At her husband’s tired wave, she flew down the hall, coming close to knocking him off his feet with a hug. She took his face in her hands and inspected him, looking over to Ariel.
“No demons?”
“No demons,”
Jess kissed her husband and led him to their living room, Ariel following behind. Simon’s daughters were on the couch, waiting expectantly. They were soon clinging to his legs, causing Simon’s feet to drag as he stumbled to the couch to collapse. The children immediately took advantage of his prone position, climbing on top of him. A rapid series of questions followed:
“What do demons look like?”
“Was it scary?”
Ariel sat down with Jess and filled her in. Simon wouldn’t remember much, he should relax for a day or so, and they should be extra vigilant for a month or so. He handed the family some wooden charms that when activated would serve as a light repellent of the supernatural for around a week. He also mentioned that if anything ‘unlucky’ that happened regularly stopped happening while they had the charms, it might be due to an outside force and they should feel free to have him back for a more general cleanse.
Ariel waved goodbye to the family and walked home, taking his time to wander through the trees. He noted the life around him, juvenile birds perching nearby, how the leaves had matured from spring to now, early summer. It would be their off season soon. He made it home just as the sun was setting. He was greeted by Layli, who appeared from behind a tree as Ariel approached the outskirts of the town.
“Success I’d assume?” Layli smiled and looked at Ariel expectantly.
“It went well. He’s got an adorable family. I’m glad they caught it so early.” Ariel accepted Layli’s half hug and they walked together to Ariel’s house.
The town was beautiful in the sunset, the last rays of light streaming through the tree branches casting a warm orange glow on the houses tucked around trunks. It wasn’t good luck to clear large area around here.
Ariel invited Layli to sit down and have some tea and they accepted. He set up the kettle and got out the honey and tea leaves. The two went back and forth for a while, planning a day for a picnic or maybe just a walk sometime soon. The kettle boiled and Layli got down some mugs while Ariel poured the water through the tea leaves into the teapot. They waited for the tea to steep and lounged around. The conversation remained light. It was good for both of them to keep it that way, what with their line of work. The tea was finished and Layli had things to get done so they left, Ariel sitting down to finish his record of the exorcism.
The possession had been caught early, and he’d forced it into the second, more exposed stage so he could start the exorcism with minimal damage. He admitted that he’d rushed a bit and the demon remained unidentified but definitely minor. The client had to be restrained but the demon either didn’t know how to or couldn’t modify the restraints or holy symbol. No backup had been required. The family had been provided with charms and instructions.
Ariel left his notebook open on the desk, waiting for the ink to dry. He sat back in his chair. It had been a while since he’d had an actual break, sure, there had been gaps between jobs, but he was always on call and it was tiring. Maybe he’d take a real break. Go visit his parents or something. It had been a while. He closed the notebook and stretched. Time for bed. Ariel got up and changed into a more comfortable shirt, lying down on his bed, gazing out the window at the rising moon. He closed his eyes and let himself relax, imagining the tension of the exorcism dripping off him and soaking into the floor and dissipating into the dirt underneath it. He quickly drifted off.

Can you do Blackwhip x Absorb and Release. This definitely isn’t inspired by the new Spider-Man 2 where venom got shot at by a missile, ate it, then spat it back out.
Can you do a Quirk Marriage of either Blackwhip x Absorb and Release or Blackwhip x Springlike Limbs?
New Quirk Name: Rebind
This Emitter type Quirk allows the user to make a series of small grey tendrils around their body. The user has a weak control over them and can spread them out over short ranges. Whenever something hits these tendrils, the user may absorb the damage, causing them to change color to reflect the kind of attack they took in. The user can then redirect the attacks from any point on the tendrils. This can either be done all at once or in smaller bursts to spread out the damage. The user can hold multiple attacks at a time across the tendrils. This gives the user a good mix of defense and support, protecting and helping others from harm. They can help their allies apply their abilities, take on harm affects before they spread, harm opponents with their own attacks, harmlessly disperse an attack, or simply use the tendrils as extra arms. Though this does require the attacks to hit the tendrils and the tendrils can be overwhelmed by the damaged, either all at once or in rapid succession, causing the attack to burst out and harm the user. The user will need to have immense focus and control over their mind and emotions in order to transfer the attacks, or else they will break apart or have issues transferring it.

Fio Media Log #1: Gen 1 Armored Core Trilogy
Armored! Core!
Tumblr media
I'm a mecha gal. I love my robots. but I especially love me some clunky "real robot" style mechs. I only got into Armored Core with 6, and i've decided to take a plunge into the first generation games with, admittedly, not too high of expectations.
And lemme tell ya. I was pretty blown away at how fun these are!
Visuals
Let me start off with the visuals, holy shit do I LOVE the visuals of these games. I grew up with the PS1 as my first console, playing Twisted Metal (Darkside main btw) is one of my earliest memories. I really adore the games that have come out recently emulating the PSX style (Psuedoregalia, Signalis, Ultrakill, etc.)
The blocky aesthetic lends itself well to mecha. A lot of the genre likes to build it's robots in simple, blocky shapes so Bandai can easily make model kits of them, and there's no shortage of obvious design inspiration among ACs
Tumblr media
The first mission, which subtly informs you of a theme of the series, has you being paid to go murder some workers striking for better pay and benefits and some other stuff that probably could've been bought with the money they used to hire a 5 meter tall death robot but hey. not our department.
Tumblr media
The pitch black background and illuminated bridge makes for some lovely moody atmosphere. A LOT of 1st gen is going to be same-y hallways and tunnels but when they go through the extra effort to make a place look like a place it ends up very nice.
The Controls
Hooooo boy. This was a STRUGGLE for me at first. See this lil game was released a month after Sony's dualshock controllers, the ones with actual analogue sticks and not just a d-pad, hit the market. Which means this highly technical game is going to make you control deliberately hard-to-pilot machines without any sticks! (and they wouldn't add support for them until 7 years later!!!)
I found the stock control scheme where Up/Down was moving forward back, Left/Right was Turn, L1/R1 was strafe, and L2/R2 was aim up/down COMPLETELY unhandlable. Brain could not parse it. But to my shock there was an option in the game settings to rebind the controls! Making all the d-pad buttons be movement and all the shoulder buttons camera controls made things click right away. But that's just for basics. As for advanced movement…. welllll.
Tumblr media
Meet [13th Toll], the build I did most of the game on after spending a lot of time experimenting and testing.
You'll notice she's a quad leg type AC! that's because the quad leg type trades the ability to boost on the ground for the ability to have consistent fast movement, meaning you can move fast without actually being good at the game's movement. It was absolutely a crutch but the game never threw anything hard enough at me to stop using said crutch. The gatling gun arms just felt better than any gun in the game having a huge amount of damage and ammo… at the cost of absolutely financially ruining me. @ @
See. Every mission in Armored Core has a base pay, occasionally bonus pay or penalties, and then that pay is deducted by how many resources you used in the mission. Repair Cost is how much damage you took, and Ammo cost is how many bullets/shells/rockets/etc you chewed through. And let me tell you the Gatling Arms are strong but they cost so much money to fire that i ended up LOSING money on several missions due to operating costs.
Scrounging for cash is definitely part of the AC experience, it's not shy about it's anti-capitalist messages, going into enough debt due to failing missions or not performing well enough actually resets the game, having your character undergo experimental augmentation to make them better at paying off the debt presumably (this is kind of an easy mode. I never triggered it as I wanted to do all three games without it. Felt like it was the authentic experience)
The control scheme as noted is incredibly clunky, but in a way that feels befitting of a mech. In AC6 the combat and controls are incredibly streamlined and feel as good as it gets for the most part. But AC1 takes a real-robot approach and imposes some serious limits to how you can move and aim. It genuinely feels like you're fighting the controls trying to aim at a fast moving plane or an AC boosting past you. It's a unique feeling that leaves the player feeling less like an ultra powerful death robot and more a poor pilot desperately wishing something could turn faster than it physically can. I'm a big fan.
I blew through AC 1 all things considered, aside from that horrifically frustrating final mission. (platforming in a game with the worst camera controls ever took years off my life.)
It wasn't a cakewalk per say, but i never felt incredibly pressed to improve my skill or optimize my build all that much in the game. I pretty much did whatever. Very enjoyable experience all in all. Where I think things get interesting is the first expansion…
Project Phantasma
Released a few months after AC1, Project Phantasma is when the game REALLY made me focus in on what i wanted to do and made me sweat. For the most part it's missions are about on par with it's predecessor, with one exception: The Arena.
The Arena is as straightforward as it gets, 49 Enemy ACs, one on one, no distractions. Best Pilot wins. The first chunk of the arena is a joke, but then, out of nowhere, comes
RANK: 30 PILOT: Brutus A.C.: Back Stab

You see this fucker? This was my wall. This is where the real pain train starts and Gen 1 starts to stop pulling it's punches IMHO.
Brutus is an aerial ace. You'll find that MOST of the ACs in the Arena absolutely LOVE to be in the air. this particular asshole has a sniper rifle that will literally stunlock you for long periods of time, is incredibly accurate, and generally just makes your life hell.
Quad legs could not carry me to victory here, they genuinely just do not have the maneuverability to dodge the incoming hailstorm of sniper shots. I tried heavyweight ACs, thinking i could simply outlast him, Dead Wrong. Heavyweights were even more of failure. All that armor did was prolong the inevitable.
This is where I had to bite the bullet and start using regular legs. You move absolutely pitifully slow when not boosting, but boosting takes energy, energy conservation takes practice and skill. I used these next 30 Arena fights to learn how to move and shoot in these games and the experience was so satisfying and rewarding. I felt like I was just as quick as the AI and soaring through the sky right along with them by the end of it.

Meet [Phantom Lambda], she is as fast as I could make her, she is as light as i could make her, she carries a new weapon in the Phantasma expansion, the WG-RFM118 Rifle. Along with a magazine on the back slot, a "weapon" that does nothing but increase the ammo count of your other weapons. 300 shots was consistently enough to take out most Arena opponents aside from the thick armored heavyweight powerhouses.
My weapon choice was simple. It has an absolutely MASSIVE lock on reticle. So I could focus all of my brainpower on movement and avoiding enemy fire. I still had to do a fair amount of aiming, the enemy ACs in the Arena get blazing fast. but this strategy ended up getting me all the way through the game. And suddenly I only had one Gen 1 game left.
Story Tangent
Project Phantasma tried a lot harder to have a consistent storyline which was fine, if a bit clunky. There's a big bad rival mech named Stinger who ends up being pretty pathetic as you thrash him again and again. You get all your jobs from a woman named Sumika who is also a AC pilot, and let me say, I was pleasantly surprised to see a woman in old mecha media that isn't evil and/or dead.
Master of Arena
Master of Arena had a lot more time in the oven than Project Phantasma, releasing in 1999 while AC1 and PP were both 97', and let me tell ya. It feels like a FromSoft employee was watching my Phantasma run over my shoulder when I first booted up the game.
So first things first. My strategy is in goddamn shambles. Not only is my FCS (part that determines lock-on reticle) significantly nerfed, my entire loadout has been nerfed to the floor in the ammo department. Magazines would give 50% more ammo per magazine in PP, and my rifle had 200 shots base. Now Mags give 20% each, and the rifle now only has 160 shots. Meaning I've went from a maximum of 400 shots to a measly 224. Considering how many shots end up missing and enemy AC HP, this means the rifle that carried me is absolutely not an option anymore.

Meet [The Rook], my intent was to find a middle ground where I wasn't totally made of paper like I was in piloting [Lambda Phantom]. Focusing purely on optimized utility in her design, I wanted something mobile, durable, and I needed to fit a weapon that had decent range and some nice damage, I used the WG-AR1000,a mid-range machine gun and doubled up on mags. This gave me a whopping 1400 bullets to bullet hose the competition down.
While the story missions weren't any harder than AC1 and Phantasma, the Arena didn't have a slow ramp up like it did in last one. Right away i was thrown into a fight with a lightweight aerial AC raining pain down on me.
I ended up playing a lot more aggressively this time around due to the machine gun's much shorter range, meeting opponents up-close in mid-air as abusing the RFM118's long range to plink away at opponents wasn't an option anymore. This lead to a lot of problems against enemies with similar weapons like gatling arms, where we mostly just ended up DPS racing eachother, but i only have to win once, after all.

Overall I really enjoyed these games. I think the first one is a fun lil time and onboards you to the systems well enough, and if you're hungry for more the two expansions offer a nice challenge. I'm currently debating if i wanna do the EX Arena in Master of Arena or if i wanna jump straight into Armored Core 2.
I highly recommend you try these out if you've played AC6, it's systems and clunky control schemes are very neat lil relics of game design that feel completely lost in the modern era.
