Gainesville! It's getting close to that time of year again! I present to you the "Transiversary: Celebration of Trans Lives." This time as an all day event with doors at 12:30pm! Music from 1-7pm. It's a $5-20 sliding scale cover. We've got music, art, and community.

For your musical pleasure, we have Confession Kids, Dumpster Meds, Hellcat Tendencies, Degenerate State, BeBe Deluxe, Quil Darling, X Dirty Fingers, and a special DJ set by Wild Creatrix.

We also have our fantastic drag performers Lyre Antics and Delirium Primadonna Haze.

And our wonderful artists vending: Pillsbury Bread Co, Angel Obscura, hammflower, and Fae Geleh. Gainesville Food Not Bombs will also be tabling this event!

Howdy to all my queers and disabled folks!

As I’m writing this, it’s my birthday, and I just released a new album that I’m super excited about! It’s called “Ganymede Gives Up The Ghost” by Stuffy Doll, and it’s got 17 tracks spanning genres from hip hop to screamy metal to punk to soulful ballads. Songs about a trans superhero, growing up, being sick, friendship, predators, the queer community, and so much more!

It even features the incredible Riley Silverman as the voice of The Narrator! (Not to mention that amazing album art by @ghostcashew)

If you like Hozier, Florence+The Machine, Slipknot, clipping., Lorde, Against Me! or honestly just any good music, I think this album has something for you.

hey ik this is really random but i really like making playlists & ages ago, i wanted to make a sapphic playlist with mostly artists of color bc i was so sick of seeing the same white girls over & over + was tired of the indie-type cottagecore shit.

hello hello hello everyone!!!! local weird archivist, lesbian, and mythology nerd here. did you know I also make stuff? now you do, and even better you can get some custom stuff!!

I make a lot of book recommendation lists for friends and work (check out some examples here), and I realized I have a lot of fun doing it, so I want to do it for other people!! if you would like custom recommendations on any topic you’re interested in, fill out the commission form here and I’ll make you one!!

I also have a literal degree in music, and one of my friends recently commissioned me to transcribe some of her favorite songs into (viola) sheet music; I hadn’t even thought of that as a commission idea before but now that I’ve done it I think it’s super cool, so if you want a song for you or a friend or sibling or parent put onto sheet music and you can’t find it online, commission me here!! I really want to do these, so please do commission me! I can translate vocal lines to instrument lines, straight up notate existing vocal/guitar/bass lines, and even do extra stuff if you have more time and money (email me, I would love to do complex projects!!)

also please feel free to share this around!!! I want to make cool stuff for cool people, and sharing is the best way to help me do that. I hope you guys like and share this, and I can’t wait to start making cool stuff soon!!!

Sorry for the long post but I need to know:

if there are any other queer musicians out there please tell me that im not alone and that y'all have had similar experiences???

had a piano lesson today and my teacher (who im not yet out to bc idk how she'll take it) was pulling me up on my too-bold interpretation of the piece.

Now, aside from the fact it's related to technique issues, I was playing it too much "as myself" (or rather, how she sees me - a cis girl).

The instructions at the beginning of the piece are naif, tendre, et fervent. According to her I had all the fervour in the world, but not enough vulnerability, innocence, childishess.

So she said this to me:

"I'm going to describe someone now, and if a name comes to mind, someone who reminds you of all these traits - who is not you, because it's obviously not you - I want you to think of them when you're playing this piece.

This person is shy, and more sensitive than they would like. They dream of being louder, of being heard all the time and saying all the things they'd like to say, but they just can't. They're an outsider, drifting on the fringes of groups because they can't say what's on their mind.

I want you to think of this person now, because at the moment you are playing this piece too much as yourself, as *given name*. Don't tell me the name you have in your head, I don't need to know who it is. I want you to show me."

So I played the piece again, fighting back tears for once not bc my teachers are roasting me but because it just resonated so clearly with me. She didn't see it, but everything she just described is me.

It's not the version of me that she sees - the confident, loud young girl who covers up fears with a good work ethic and a big smile. It's not her - not my given name.

But of course, the one name that came to my head when she was talking was Laurence. My new name, my real name. The guy that can't say what they're thinking, that dreams of being louder, bigger, more visible. Who knows, knows that it can't be. That I can't be louder, I can't be visible, I can't be heard. Not by her. Not now. Not yet. Not... ever?

I only got through 2 lines of the piece like this before she stopped me, applauded and cried out

"Yes! Yes, that's it! That's the person who should be playing this piece. It's very important that you learn to play as another person, to put yourself in the shoes of someone smaller than yourself, less powerful. You and I, confident people, sure of ourselves, of every step, we don't ever experience that! But you seem to understand. You may not have ever felt it, but you understand those feelings, and in this piece, and in life, that is very important."

So uh yeah I'm crying now.
