the zine for november 2022 is called « SILENCE IS WHAT CORRESPONDS », a fold-out poster zine printed on a goldenrod paper, measuring 8.5x14 inches when fully unfolded. the zine is a mixture of swirling monochrome abstracts and found-text poetics. when i sit down to work on this project each month, i sometimes have a loose idea, concept, or inspiration in mind. other times, the zine just goes in the direction that it wants to, in some ways, this one feels like a little meditation on grief and change. this month marks the start of the *third* year of this project, and the 25th consecutive zine in this series! if you like my work, this is a great way to support me and help me continue making it. i'm a freelance artist, graphic designer and project manager, and this project helps me build a dependable monthly baseline. subscriptions are available via mail for any mailing address worldwide for $5 or $10USD/mo. thank you for your support! subscriptions this month include a new vinyl sticker, and ten-dollar subscribers will get two of those stickers along with a bonus color zine that collects some of my recent work from the fall that was done in a square format--some on vintage photos, other on recycled paperboard. happy new year! the zine for january 2023 is called « A COLOR THAT CONTRASTS », an eight-page quarter-sheet zine printed on vivid contrasting paper with a combination of found text and textural, undulating standalone collages. each issue of the zine has a cool colorblock effect, and there are a wide variety of combinations of colors throughout the run—i loved putting these together, they're really just so much fun. i rarely show the monthly zines as a grouping when first introducing the issue, but to really understand the scope of this one, a pile reveal is necessary (hehe)! subscriptions this month include a happy new year card from me! five-dollar subscribers will also receive one paper sticker chosen at random, and ten-dollar subscribers will receive two stickers (one of each design) and a bonus mini-zine, STUDIO NOTES. this mini zine explores some of my takeaways from 2022, and has new hybrid analog-digital collagework on all eight pages. the paper stickers this month come from artwork i made for STUDIO NOTES. thank you for supporting my work as we enter 2023! Used to telling stories to further his understanding of a diverse range of human experiences, American photographer William Mark Sommer started to work on a new project titled "The Loneliest Highway" in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, for which he was trying to find solace in the emptiness along Nevada's Lincoln Highway. The result is nothing short of remarkable, as he portrays the impact of seclusion with great empathy, a melancholic love letter in black and white addressed to those who struggle. Lodown caught up with the California-based artist to learn more about his work.
