My controversial opinion about Hob Gadling is that I believe he’s absolutely the sort of guy that “puts things behind him”, and tries to wash his hands clean of the things he feels icky about. This is implied pretty well in the show, with him blithely moving from soldiering and robbery to printing, from slaving to… whatever it was he was doing in the 19th century instead. That being said, this is not at all the same as actively trying to atone, or even making a concerted effort to be a better person, and I really wish fandom could tell the difference!
You know these really weird moments when you don't know whether reality glitched, you're brain wired something wrong or the internet is just gaslighting you?
I was convinced that rusty quill had a podcast called "the mechanisms". At the same time, random videos about a band with the same name popped up on my tiktok fyp, so my brain somehow assumed that rusty quill created a fictional band for one of their podcasts.
Now i googled "the mechanisms" to check if i was right. Turns out there used to be a band with that name who had fictional personas or something like that. And who told stories through their albums. But i found nothing remotely related to podcasts.
I feel really dumb but... has my brain just made a wrong connection, maybe because some horror podcast fans are also fan of this band? Or... what's going on?
Update: I think this might be related to Tim Stoker from tma being compared to a certain Gunpowder Tim - and i think someone even said the... voice? Actor? Whatever, the real person behind Gunpowder Tim voiced someone in tma. Also there's apparently a Jonny in that band too, and i thought they were talking about Jonny Sims. And posts about "listening to the mechs" popped up between posts about listening to podcasts, so... i guess i just assumed it was a podcast too.
So, Mr. Jenn's grandma is in her 90s, and has been in the early stages of dementia for a while now. She's still coherent, and still able to take care of herself and live independently so far, so there's been no move to put her in an assisted living facility. But this does mean we hear some kind of wild stuff. She has a lot of paranoia and has been complaining about people in her attic (she lives in a one-story apartment), and recently she told my MIL (her daughter) that the people who were out to get her are also after MIL and FIL's new Labrador puppy. The people in her attic have also attacked her with some kind of ray gun? (Not actually sure if that's what she called it, but her descriptions of it basically sound like some kind of sci-fi weapon that they're apparently using to knock her down.)
Anyway, the latest now is that my FIL and I have back-to-back birthdays (me on Monday, him on Tuesday), and we always celebrate together with a dinner on whatever the closest Saturday is when our birthdays fall on weekdays. He called Mr. Jenn today (they talk every day when Mr. Jenn gets off work) and tells him that grandma will not be at the birthday dinner tomorrow, because 'no one loves her.' As a specific example of this, she said 'Jenn hasn't spoken to me in two years.'
We have a family get-together at his parents' (grandma included) for every major holiday, plus every birthday (hers included). She's seen me multiple times in the last few months. She just saw me two weeks ago, for Mr. Jenn's birthday. I remember talking to her at his birthday. My FIL told Mr. Jenn he specifically remembers me talking to her at his birthday.
No idea why she has decided that I specifically have not spoken to her in years (we get on well because she was a bit eccentric even before the dementia, and I go down enough weird rabbit holes that I can hold a conversation on lots of things without judgement because when you've sought out the parts of the internet I've sought out, you can't judge), but dementia is really a bitch if it makes you turn down a free dinner.
So today is my last lecture from my Religion and Gender class and I've loved it and there's one thing we talked about that is just sticking in my head, and it's the idea of gender as a performance. And the idea that that's all gender is for anyone. Everyone is performing their gender constantly, in the way they dress, how they carry themselves, all that jazz.
Like I know the idea of gender being a social construct gets talked about, but idk the wording of performance just makes more sense to me. Like yeah, the cis guy really into going to the gym and afraid of looking 'gay' is performing his gender. The cis woman who wears a lot of dresses and grows her hair long and gets acrylic is performing her gender. Like yeah those are the stereotypical 'male' and 'female' but there just as much of a performance as drag queens.
Idk I like it because to me it takes away from the 'x thing is a female thing' and just is like gender can be what you want it to be and it doesn't have to be deeper than you want it to be.
You see how some words are made by combining different words. And it is so beautiful how every word in a different word defines its meaning and uniqueness.
I was literally staring at the word beautiful, and then I realized there is 'be' in beautiful, which means 'exist' which implies that you are beautiful when you simply exist the way you are! Isn't that simply beautiful? 😍
Bagman is the best BCS episode to me by far. LOVE me a good tv episode where two guy's (gender neutral) struggle through a wilderness they are woefully unprepared for (where the wilderness also perhaps reflects an internal struggle through the wilderness of the self or Whatever??!!?!!) and the guys involved (for better or worse) learn more about each other in the process. AND he drinks his own piss
Scrolling through some terf shit to block them off and I found this wonderful quote
“Trans activists keep saying "sex isn't real Scientists have disproven it! There's no difference between male and female bodies!"
HUH??????2)-5 Last I checked we are ACUTELY AWARE that sex is a real thing, it’s just not as binary as you think it is and also gender is a different anthropological concept. God these straw men could keep away every crow in the tristate area
People take "sex is not as set-in-stone and mythological as we're lead to think, hence why transition works and why intersex people exist" as a personal threat, sometimes because they think that it means "sex isn't real"
What trans people usually are criticizing about peoples perception of human sex is the fact that people tend to see male amd female as almost like they're seperate species with no overlap. Honestly, I see this as an extension of misogyny in that it justifies why women (and people presumed and forced into the gender and sex associated with "woman") "deserve" to be subjected to misogyny.
If human sex had no overlap, I wouldn't be able to transition in any way, but I've gone through my ~sex change~ without a hitch, y'know? Transition really teaches you that human sex has more overlap than people want to think. We are more alike than we are different.
I know you didn't send this ask to hear my views on human sex, but it's something I've seen. The idea that "sex = everything and is your destiny" is outdated, and it harms more than just trans people. It harms intersex people who don't "neatly" fit into the male/female dichotomy immensely, and it hurts perisex cis people. We aren't helped by treating other people like seperate species.
- The latest EA earnings call indicated that DA4 won't be out before April 2024.
- EA seems to favor relatively short marketing campaigns these days, if we're looking at how Jedi Survivor or Dead Space started to be advertised around 6-8 months before release. (Also, BioWare has probably learned their lesson with Anthem, when they showed stuff way too early.)
- Jeff Grubb says that DA4 is currently targeting Summer 2024 and is not expecting it to be announced this summer, yet people are speculating that DA4 might release on DAI's 10th anniversary in November 2024.
- All this considered, I just can't see them showing something until maybe the Game Awards in December? :/
- HOWEVER, the date of the pre-sale for the vinyl is now (apparently) tomorrow June 8th, coinciding with Summer Game Fest. Which, oddly enough, marks now the second time this happened, when it was previously said to start at May 10th, the same date that the finale volume of The Missing came out (...yet nothing was released that day and no one knows what happened there? lol) Which is why people are now thinking this can't possibly be a coincidence and there will be something at Summer Game Fest. lol
- The Missing comic was marketed as a direct tie-in to DA4, but if the game is still more than one year away/marketing won’t begin any time soon, then I’m just wondering why they would even do such a build up *now*?
In conclusion: I'm just so damn confused at this point and I have no flippin clue what/when/why something’s gonna happen anymore. 😂
......Am I going to watch every single one of these live gaming showcases anyway?
possibly a way the show could tackle the different languages in season 2 is: if mizu attempts to learn english while on the voyage to london, its likely she may learn it with south-english diction? or however fowler teaches it to her (assuming he helps her with english at all). and so thats probably one way the audience can tell if she's speaking japanese or english: if maya erskine speaks normally or puts on a rough british-english with japanese intonation?
