Katsuki is so fucking sick of hospital rooms. He hates the heavy scent of antiseptic, the too-starchy pillows, the way the bed crackles every time he moves. He hates the white-popcorn walls that he’s forced to stare at through the haze of heavy medication. And he fucking despises the plastic tube shoved up his nose with the quiet, but constant, beeping of several machines keeping tabs on his vitals. Everything about it sucks. The only slightly redeeming quality about this particular hospital stay is that he and Izuku are sharing the same room. Apparently, after Katsuki’s tantrum the last time they both nearly died, the nurses figured it was best for everyone if Izuku was put directly in Katsuki’s line of vision. And so there he is, still knocked out in his hospital bed opposite Katsuki’s. Half his head wrapped in gauze, face swollen with purple bruises, he’s bandaged just about everywhere, but he’s alive. Katsuki is too riddled with pain meds to do much other than stare at him across the room. But at least Izuku is there, hooked up to a heart-monitor, softly proving that he’s still breathing. Which gives Katsuki’s battered heart some much needed relief.
Izuku still hasn’t woken up, though. Stupid, sleepy bastard. Always fucking sleeping when Katsuki is awake. How the fuck has Katsuki had three surgeries, one of them open-heart surgery, and he’s managing to flit in and out of consciousness, but Izuku is still out like a light? Katsuki thought Izuku swore to surpass him. Why the fuck does he think he can fall behind now? Katsuki scowls at Izuku’s tuft of fluffy green hair.
Wake up or I’ll kill you , Katsuki vows.
Katsuki knows he’s in love with him. He should have known a long time ago really, but having his heart burst put everything into stark clarity. He can’t deny it now. Not even if he wanted to. The next time Katsuki greets death, he will do so without regrets. There’s so much he needs to make up for; he still has so much atoning left to do. He has to show Izuku he will be better and do right by him. Izuku can’t fucking die before Katsuki has the chance to prove himself. Even if Izuku never loves him back, Katsuki must at least prove that he can be good. That he is worthy of standing at Izuku’s side.
Days pass and Izuku still doesn’t wake. Katsuki’s pleadings only get more desperate. Usually it’s just in his head, but sometimes, when it’s late at night and no one else is around, Katsuki will murmur to him aloud.
“You don’t have to forgive me,” Katsuki whispers into the oppressive quiet of their hospital room. Only the soft chime of Izuku’s heart-monitor answers him. “You don’t have to be mine. Just wake up. Don’t make me live in a world without you.”
Shadows dance as headlights stream through the curtains shading their window, and for a moment Katsuki thinks maybe--- but no. The car passes and Izuku hasn’t stirred. God fucking dammit. Katsuki doesn’t know why he’s surprised: of course Izuku can’t actually hear him. Tears prick at the corners of Katsuki’s eyes anyway.
It becomes a nightly ritual. Katsuki’s mind is too muddled with medication to make sense most of the time, but at least it gives him something to do. God, he can’t wait until he’s off all this shit and actually, you know, move and whatever. His arm was so bent and twisted when he was admitted that they had to implant metal poles to strengthen it, and fuck if it doesn’t feel weird. Recovery Girl comes by every day to heal him, bit by bit so as not to exhaust his limited energy, and there’s a quirk specialist flying out from the states to repair Katsuki’s damaged muscle. They have assured him that with time and physical therapy he should get all his mobility back, but it gives Katsuki little comfort. He would cut the whole damn limb off if it meant Izuku would just wake up .
“Please, for me,” Katsuki whispers, one night after a particularly exhausting round of visits from his parents, Izuku’s mom, and All Might. “Just this one thing. Just wake up. I won’t ask for anything else, just be okay.”
Katsuki must drift off. The concoction of sleep-aids and pain medications dragging him into unconsciousness against his will. He thinks he might be dreaming when he hears ragged breathing and a soft croaky voice.
“Ka— K’ch’n… Kach—”
Katsuki jolts awake, his heart-rate spiking and his head spinning. He can’t have— it couldn’t be—
 “ Kacchan… ”

This isn’t gonna be a very in-depth because I don’t really have time at the moment, but I keep thinking about Heroes Rising in relation to the actual end of of the manga. I mean, don’t we all. But specifically, I’m thinking about the fact that Katsuki had to have convenient amnesia in order to keep it from interfering with the main story. Most notably, Izuku is allowed to remember sharing One for All with Katsuki, but not vice versa. Katsuki remembering and processing what happened is the ONLY bit of character development in Heroes Rising that was significant enough to explicitly undo. Why? It must be that whatever epiphany Katsuki had in this moment-
Tumblr media
-would have fundamentally changed their relationship. ^This face doesn’t just represent Katsuki realizing what Izuku intends to do, but also something deeper. I imagine the epiphany Katsuki had was something along the lines of, “holy shit, he’s actually choosing me.” He’s choosing him to carry on the torch of OfA, and more importantly he’s been choosing him as a person all along, regardless of their current status as competitive equals. The thing is, Katsuki already knew that Izuku is self-sacrificing and doesn’t think twice about risking his life. But there’s a huge difference between dying as a hero in an act of sacrifice, which in this society is basically normalized, and the sacrifice of becoming quirkless again and living on without fulfilling a lifelong dream. For Izuku to not only accept that, but to be okay with the person who once bullied him for being quirkless taking his dream away from him, it confirms something Katsuki wouldn’t dare to hope: that their relationship is not just a rivalry, and Izuku values their shared closeness far beyond what their training can do for his progress. Yes, Izuku wants to be the greatest hero just like Katsuki, and they feed off each other’s competitive energy, but (and idk if this is a hot take) their rivalry only exists because Katsuki put it there. Izuku goes along with it because he’ll take any excuse to keep Katsuki in his life.
If Katsuki remembered all of this, he would never have said in his apology that he doesn’t expect anything to change between them, because he would know that Izuku’s feelings toward him are completely unconditional. Their rivalry would be a moot point, leaving them to figure out why else they’re still obsessed with each other. Which brings me to the fact that Katsuki’s apology remains unanswered. We’ve all been wondering when Izuku will finally be shown confirming that yes, he does want things to change between them. And now I think the reason it didn’t happen in some quiet corner before the second war started is because it’s just too monumental. It’ll be something that, just like in Heroes Rising, Katsuki realizes through some grand dramatic moment. It’s the moment they cease to be rivals, and truly become two halves of a whole.

Just realizing again that Izuku matters to Katsuki. Izuku has always mattered to him, and we know that because Katsuki could never just let Izuku go.
So what if Deku was more inherently heroic than he was at five years old? The kid was quirkless and clearly never going to be a hero, so what did it matter? He could have just lived his life, moved on, not cared.
But even as young as he was some part of Katsuki knew Izuku was his person, his rival. He’s always known that quirkless Deku was the one he’d have to beat to prove himself. Katsuki made Izuku the most important person in his life by continuing to focus on him, by seeing him as a threat. Yeah he dealt with it badly and yeah it was unhealthy and wrong and honestly tragic, but that doesn’t change the fact that Izuku has mattered to Katsuki from the start.

Katsuki gets revived and saves Izuku and they finish the war together, but they are both heavily wounded and lose consciousness together soon after victory.
This time somehow Izuku wakes up before Katsuki, and he can't find Katsuki. So the anxiety drives him out of his bed this time and he trudges agonizingly and single-mindedly through the hospital to find Katsuki.
He finds him down the hall. His arm still in cast, his face mostly healed but wrapped under bandages, chest bandaged so heavily, but rising and falling with healthy breaths. The machine beeps with his heart, thank god, Izuku exhales a breath he'd been holding in for too long.
He doesn't even care that there's only one bed when he gets to the right room. He pulls an extra blanket off a nearby chair, wraps it around himself and carefully pulls himself into the space between Katsuki and the edge of the bed.
Katsuki responds to his warmth and turns his head towards him but doesn't wake.
"...Izuku..." he talks in his sleep, his soul just KNOWING whose presence was with him.
"I won't leave. Not again. Not ever." Izuku murmurs into Katsuki's shoulder. Silent tears stream down his cheeks.
Eventually Katsuki warms and returns the embrace, as if Izuku was a precious plushie he needed in order to sleep.
They are found this way by Aizawa, who makes it explicitly clear to staff that the two are not to be separated during their recovery. He smiles down at his House Arrest Boys and flicks off the overhead lights.

jump then fall by nikkiRA
Summary: During a storm, Class 3-A end up playing a version of the newlywed game, except Deku and Katsuki get roped into playing, even though they're not dating.
They're really good at it.
“It’s cute that you know so much about each other,” Ashido says. Bakugou curls his lip; he locks eyes with Deku, and he feels his cheeks heat up at the happy smile he gives him.
One Shot | Third Year AU

can this be a real thing can it by nikkiRA
Summary: His friends are all laughing when Katsuki throws himself down beside them and says, “Why the fuck do people think I’m dating Deku?”
This time last year it would probably be hard to get an answer, with no one (except possibly Kirishima) willing to be the one to poke Katsuki’s anger. Now they all burst into laughter, and Mina says, “Have you seen you and Deku?”
One Shot | Second Year AU | Post War

this love left a permanent mark by nikkiRA
Summary: "I get 'em too."
Izuku looks at him, but Katsuki is faced away. "About what?"
Katsuki shrugs. "Take your fucking pick. Got a lot of options." And isn't that just damn depressing. "Hey," Katsuki continues, and his voice has the forced neutrality he always gets when he cares too much and he's pretending not to. "You can stay here tonight, if you want."
One Shot | Post War

king of hearts by nikkiRA
Summary: Bakugou gets hit by a quirk that makes hearts manifest above his head— the more hearts, the more he likes you.
He can under no circumstances let Deku see him.
One Shot | Third Year AU | Quirk Accident
Rated - Explicit
gorgeous by nikkiRA
Summary: Katsuki smirks and says, "Why d’you like my summer uniform better?"
And here's the thing— Izuku could come up with an acceptable reason, except at that moment Katsuki crosses his arms, and even in the school uniform Izuku can see the outline of his muscles, his incredibly big, incredibly strong muscles. And Izuku's very dumb, very gay brain latches onto them, and Izuku's very dumb, very loud mouth opens and says, “Arms."
One Shot | Third Year AU

this love is a bloodbath by nikkiRA
Summary: Izuku takes a breath. "When I thought that you were dead, I thought of all the things I hadn't told you, and now it's like I have a second chance. I don't want to keep secrets from you anymore.
Katsuki swallows. His mouth is very dry. “What secrets have you been keeping?"
the truth comes out.

Rated - General Audiences
Research Purposes by nikkiRA
Summary: The curiosity gets to be too much for him. There were too many unknown variables. When did he start needing glasses? Izuku had been watching and taking notes on Katsuki since he first learned how to write. He needed to know for research purposes. The fact that they made Izuku horny as hell was just an unfortunate side effect.
{One Shot}
Rated - Explicit
Unravelled by nikkiRA
Summary: *spoilers for chapter 362*
The first thing Katsuki becomes aware of is the fact that he’s not dead. Or at least, he’s assuming he’s not dead, because he’s hoping being dead isn’t going to hurt this fucking much. It feels like Shigaraki had turned him into dust and some stubborn idiot had gathered up all the pieces and super glued them back together.
There’s a sniffle near him, and Katsuki opens his eyes to see the stubborn idiot in question.
One Shot | Post War
Rated - General Audiences
Someday by nikkiRA
Summary: "Bastard hit me with his quirk," his Kacchan says. "It's supposed to swap you with a version of your past self, except Aizawa erased it right in the middle, which somehow meant that this shithead got pulled through, but I didn't get sent back."
"Who're you calling a shithead?” Sixteen year old Kacchan bursts out. Kacchan smacks him on the head.
"You, shithead! Pay attention!"

Rated - Teen & Up

Summary: "Kacchan," Izuku says patiently. "I just squirted on your face. Tell me you love me."
Katsuki’s eyes turn hungry at the reminder. "Fuck yeah, you did,” he says leaning down to give Izuku a kiss that is mostly teeth. "I fucking love you."

What about after the war is over, after recovery, there's a celebration or a ceremony of some sort. And Izuku is meant to be one of the centers of attention because he defeated/saved Tomura:
Spoilers for 403!
He is waiting for the hosts and the surviving heroes to introdcluce him ...and izuku is NERVOUS. All at once he feels like he doesn't deserve this...he still has anxiety about being in front of everyone(the last time being that incident with bringing him back to UA and the hostile crowds)...he knows they lost so much in the war anyway, even if they were victorious-- how could he look the people who has lost loved ones in the eye? What if his efforts just weren't good enough?
and of course he can't escape the fact that he himself saw so much death and destruction, including Kacchan, and the threat of All Might dying.
The two had lived, along with all of his friends, but it didn't change the fact that sleep was still hard to come by when nightmares were frequently keeping him awake, and shadows still hung under his weary green eyes.
So as he stands there, waiting for the cue, he agonizes, wringing his very, very sore, still bandaged hands together. He gulps and fights the burn in his eyes; he doesn't think he should be up here when he just barely scraped by with a win... he's not ready for this...
...he doesn't deserve this...
He doesn't hear Katsuki coming up beside him, but he feels it.
A similarly bandaged hand quickly takes Izukus left hand, takes it away from the anxious squeezing izuku was doing in front. Katsuki just takes Izukus hand and holds it at their side, moving just so the crowds of onlookers wouldn't be able to see their grasp between them. All they would see is the two young men who saved All Might and won the day, side by side, shoulder to shoulder.
A solid, reassuring squeeze, grounds Izuku and calms him down, somehow.
"Don't crack now, Izuku," Katsuki says to him, and Izuku shudders; he's not used to Katsukis voice being so soft all the time... "If anyone deserves to be here right now, it's you. You're a hero, don't forget it."
Another warm squeeze emphasized Katsukis words, and the blonde allowed a quick glance at Izuku. Their eyes met just a moment, seeming to spark in unison.
Izuku could see a faint outline of discoloration where Katsukis cheek had been scarred. He found himself training his ears for Katsukis heartbeat whenever they were in such close proximity.
Katsuki was there, katsuki was alive. He was seeing him, hearing him, touching him. Katsuki was OK. Izuku was ok.
Izuku allowed himself a steady breath as he turned his eyes back ahead.
Even still he felt Katsukis gentle gaze on him... his own heart steadied.
They heard the cue, and Izuku felt the courage again to step forward.
The hand in his, stays warm throughout the presentation.

@nightmarebunnyking so this is for you 💚 I couldn't fit the whole class A knowing because it turned out to be more angtsy than what I initially planned 🤦🏽‍♀️ but I hope you'll enjoy it anyways!
💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡
"You're doing it again."
It's Katsuki. Of course it's him. He's been spending most nights in the other's room.
"Sorry," comes the soft whisper, although he knows for a fact the other boy isn't sorry at all, "I can't help it."
Katsuki lets out a small noise, between a sigh and a laugh - honestly he's not even sure anymore - he's used to it by now. They've been doing this for a month. Lying together in bed at night, just to feel close to each other.
Izuku and Katsuki in the same room, let alone the same bed. Sometimes he mentally snarls at this. His old-self would have rejected that image with all his might. Now? He still can't say it out loud, but he knows he would not have it any other way.
The war had finally ended, yet it left such scars on both Izuku and him, it was a miracle they still functioned the way they did.
"I know. I'm here, idiot."
He brings his right hand on top of Izuku's, squeezing it slowly. Izuku's hand is soft, resting on his bare chest, warming his skin and his heart at the same time. It's cheesy as fuck, he knows it, but he doesn't care. Just like the little nerd with him, he needs to know it's there.
"Can't sleep?", he mutters to the green haired boy.
It's a stupid question really, but right now he wants to hear Izuku's voice.
"Not really," he answers softly, "I keep seeing it whenever I close my eyes."
Katsuki doesn't ask what Izuku sees. He knows, and it makes him feel like shit all over again. He tightens his grip on the smaller hand placed on his chest. It hurts to think about it. It hurts to think about how it must have been for the other. He still can't bring himself to talk about it with him. He needs to, they both do, but they never say anything. They're not ready. Katsuki knows it, Izuku knows it.
So it comes as a shock when he suddenly hears "You died..."
It's only a whisper, so soft he's not even sure Izuku actually said it aloud, but he's certain of it when he starts feeling the other's body slowly shaking next to him.
"Izu-", he starts before realising his voice is breaking. Fuck, he thinks, keep it together you moron.
He slowly grabs the wrist on his chest, turning himself slightly to the side in the process as he pulls the shorter boy in a hug. Katsuki hears a small surprise squeak from the green haired nerd, but he doesn't care. They both need this right now. Fuck, if not now then when?, he thinks. He keeps his embrace tight, his hand shifting to Izuku's back as he strokes it absentmindedly. Izuku's hair is in his face, tickling his nose a little, but he pays it no mind. He actually likes it. He actually wishes it could be like this all the time. But Izuku is sobbing against him, and it's fucking him up.
"I'm sorry", he says in a breath. He doesn't know what else to say. He doesn't how to say it.
"I'm sorry for leaving you alone when you needed me the most? I'm sorry I didn't wait for you to be back to fight Shigaraki? I'm sorry I fucking exploded my own heart trying to kill the dude before you got there?" How the fuck was he supposed to even say all of this and not have Izuku feeling guilty about it all over again.
"I'm never leaving again."
Katsuki feels a small nod of acknowledgement against his chest. He feels the wetness of Izuku's tears against his scar and the hand gripping his shoulder tightly as if he might disappear any moment.
"I'm never leaving again, Izuku", he says again, this time louder. Another nod. Katsuki sighs then pushes his childhood friend slightly away from him. His hand finds its way to Izuku's chin, lifting it up slowly so he can meet the watery gaze of the other boy.
"You're stuck with me now, stupid nerd."
He sees more than hears the small sobby laugh Izuku lets out, and he smirks a little himself. Before the green haired boy can say something again, Katsuki brings his face closer to his and seals his new promise with a soft kiss.
It's not their first, of course, but it always feels like it is. His lips lingers for a while on Izuku's warm ones before breaking away to stare at shiny emerald eyes. Izuku's cheeks are pink but he's smiling at him. Like always, Katuski feels this painful but warm pang in his heart. He's so fucked, honestly, but he really can't give a shit. He'd go through this kind of roller coaster every night for the rest of his life if it means he can see Izuku smiling at him like that.
He brings the smaller boy against him in a tight embrace, letting out a content sigh when he feels Izuku's hands wrapping around him. Well, one hand really. The right one stays on Katsuki's chest, where it belongs.
They don't say anything anymore, there's no need for it. They'll stay like this until morning, making sure the other is still here.
🧡💚🧡💚🧡💚🧡
I'm sorry if it sucks... I haven't written anything in years 🫥

change of heart
Everyone noticed, but no one said anything. Not even Izuku.
They all noticed how he no longer sent death glares at random or called his friends "extra" because he knew very well how each one of their lives mattered.
How he didn't scream at people on the street, how he would listen to his teachers and how he would yell less at his mother.
Everyone noticed, but no one said anything. Not even Izuku, afraid of what his reaction would be.
Yes, Dynamight was still ruthless and unforgiving. But Katsuki wasn't.
It was noticeable in his eyes and, mostly, in his hands. No longer curled into fists, ready to explode at every minor inconvenience.
In the way he would allow strangers to approach him, in the "You want a picture? Yeah, sure" he said to a smiling kid who ran to him in the middle of patrol.
In the way he carefully wrapped his hands around their tiny waist, putting them on his shoulder and smiling his signature grin, "Say God Explosion Murder God Dynamight!" And the kid did. A beautiful picture that took over the internet for almost a month.
Everyone noticed, but no one said anything. Not even Izuku, who was the one who had more evidence the most.
He would feel it in the Katsuki would touch him like a feather, softly and mindlessly caressing his hand scar as they watch TV or walk to class. See it in the way he would kiss his temple good morning in the kitchen, regardless of who was around. In the way he would whisper worships on his lips in the privacy of their room.
Yes, everyone noticed, but no one said anything. Not even Izuku, afraid he would get self-conscious and stop.
But of course, it was bound to happen one day. It was only a matter of time.
And the time came when he was doing an interview, close to his graduation. The first one after the war two years ago.
Izuku was in the audience, as usual, staring at him like he was the reason the universe existed.
(To Izuku, he was)
And it was in the 4B sit that he left the mark of his hand on the armrest by squeezing it hard as his breath stuck in his throat and his eyes burned. Because someone had just said something.
"Dynamight, I can't help but notice, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, that you have changed your posture significantly. You are… well, you are so gentle and kind nowadays."
*Shit*, Izuku thought. Because he knew Katsuki. He knew what was to come. He held onto the armrest for dear life, anticipation tickling his bones.
But then, something amazing happened. Not the "KIND? WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU CALLING THAT??" tantrum he was sort of expecting.
No. None of that.
Katsuki smiled, looking at Izuku for a second before turning his gaze to the interviewer.
He smiled and said "Thanks. It was a lot of hard work."
Izuku's heart burst and he squeezed the armrest tighter, imprinting his hands there on the metal forever, trying (and failing) to keep himself from crying.
Izuku has never been more proud of Katsuki in his life.
