I love AUs where Wen Zhuliu ends up a good guy for whatever various reasons but most of them do Not capture this man’s comedy potential. Wen Zhuliu doesn’t tell Wen Chao jack shit. Wen Zhuliu willingly drinks the wine he KNOWS Wen Ning spiked because it’s not lethal and therefore Not something he has to care about. He knows full well WWX doesn’t have a golden core and just stands there letting Wen Chao threaten to have him destroy WWX’s golden core. Like. The sheer overworked minimum wage employee energy this man exudes.
And I know, okay, I know that we’ve all collectively decided that it’s because he fucking hates his job, he hates Wen Chao, he hates the Core Melting Hand, but he feels honor-bound to deal with it, so he is going to do The Bare Minimum to comply with his personal code of loyalty and not a fucking shred more. Presumably, if he were working for someone he actually liked, who’s ideals he supported, he would be more engaged and enthusiastic!
But I still don’t think he’d tell anybody anything. I think he’d be more proactive and even more protective and compassionate (yes, compassionate, Wen Chao didn’t deserve it but the man was downright tender when treating his wounds; he clearly is capable of gentleness and even kindness) but I also think that if somebody tried to hurt you you would be the last person to know.
It would be like six months after the fact and you’d be like “Huh where did this stain come from?” And he would be like “yeah sorry I tried to get the blood out but that assassin flopped all over the floor I guess I missed a spot” and you’d be like “ASSASSIN??!” And he’d be like “yeah here I brought you tea” and then just Never Elaborate.
“I know this sounds crazy but these robes that look exactly like my favorite robes are Not my favorite robes and Cannot articulate how or why”
“Oh yeah the laundress was paid to soak them in poison so you’d die the next time you wore them. I threw the old ones out, commissioned an identical pair, and then killed the laundress and the guy who paid her.”
And you would just have to be like “Oh. Okay. Got it… thanks?”

shameless hot takes
i kind of dig the way lip ended up as a failure. i know a lot of people hate what the show did to him, how he never lived up to his potential (the same way they do it to rory gilmore) but like. that happens. lifes just like that. sometimes people who have had everything to live with grandiosity end up ruining everything up, and lips life was HARD and it SUCKED so him failing its kind of expectable i think. and its not like lips life ended, mans not even 30 and hes not just smart hes a genius, he will end up turning the table and coming straight to the top, i believe so.
frank doesn't love his children. i know people like to think frank was somewhat nice sometimes and that he was troubled but he loved the gallaghers his own way but i dont think he really did. he didnt even knew them. he was just too selfish and a narcissist and not even once a "act of love" was genuine or didnt have a gain for him or was somewhat for his benefit or interest.
of all plots, i believe gay jesus was the worst. i tried to remeber every other plot of the show and dont get me wrong the frank and his buddy pal mickey oshea SUCKED and i love ian hes my favorite character but what the fuck was that. the idea is really nice but it took so long to convey this arc of mania of him and it just was really badly written and executed and later it doesn't have importance to the plot. no surprise cameron monaghan wanted to skip shameless after that.
gallavich is not a healthy goal relationship. i mean yeah, they do love each other and they are good to each other, and i will excuse them for all the shit they did as teenagers cause they seemed to forgive each other and grow from it and i dont think they knew best but as adults they dont fucking communicate and mick broke ians leg like common. also most of time ian just seems to regret having married mick is really frustrating. i genuinely dont understand how that happened cause gallavich was all the writes had to milk and serve for the last seasons and they still fucked it up.
debbie is a rapist. she just is. just like sheila is too, i believe, and frank, and mandy, and jody, and estefania (i dont think jimmysteve is tho). they practiced nonconsensual sex and thats rape, end of story. i know the deborah debate is kind of hot ground and everybody has a different opinion about it cause she was young and didnt have the proper sex ed. but she did it not once, but twice AFTER facing consequences and getting to educate herself about what she did and why that was wrong, and i believe she would do it again if she had the motivation like she did on those circumstances. not saying matty or derick were cool guys, fuck them, matty wanted to go out with an underage girl when he met debbie and he kept going out with her after knowing she was much younger than he first thought and derick know that having sex can lead to having a baby and he and his family should have tried to be better to franny, but still they didnt deserved to by lied and abused by deb.
the gallaghers house should be debbie and carl's to decide what to do. the house is in fionas name, that much is true, but it is clear they kept contact with fiona at the begging of season 10 as she calls debbie to know about freddie and at that hall of fame episode too, so that much wouldn't be a problem. also, as fiona left, she left debbie in charge of the house's finances, and i believe the responsibility of what to do with the house is left with debbie too. i dont think fiona would be thrilled with the wouse being sold but she moved on and if her siblings are up to moving on too i dont think she would be opposed to it. that said, she would let the house deed on debbies hand i believe. taking up the fact that debbie is a mom with a little child and no other place to live, the fact she doesnt want to sell the house is comprehensible and i dont think any other gallagher can say its not, even more so lip. they tried to make the decision voting, letting the majority determinate what to do, but i dont think thats fair since lip could very easily get a house to himself and ian and mickey too, they had the money. now, about carl, is simply cause he paid for the house, therefore he should had a say on it. season 6, when the house was going to be sold, no other Gallagher than fiona was really trying to make to money to buy it. when she couldnt, carl saved the day and gave the money, and fiona was reluctant but she had no other option than to accept it, otherwise they would lose the house. even though the house is in fionas name like she likes to make it very clear, it is carls, and if he wanted to he could have put it in someone elses name, not lip cause he's in debt cause of the credit cards he has gotten to pay college, but he could have made it ians or anyone elses. he didnt cause he respects family and he respects fiona. since the house is his, and he also didnt really had any other place like debbie, they both should make the decision together.
fiona fucking sucks. i know a lot of people hates her and a lot loves her, and theres people in here that knows shes middle ground just like basically everybody on the show, which is called SHAMELESS for a reason. and i can agree with everybody. my point here is that she did nice things and stupid things and i dont hate her or love her for them, nor do i think all is forgiven because of her trauma or that shes number one worst character of the show. i think she sucks, think that she was wrong for all the liam shit, that she is an agent of chaos, that she was a bad girlfriend for all of her boyfriends just like they were bad for her (except mike he rocks), i think she make some of them worst really; i understand her desire to grown and be someone but i think it was risky to put the gallaghers house on the line so she could open the laundry (even more so cause i dont really consider it hers but carls), i understand how at some point she wanted to grow and take care of herself and be less of an parent in her sibling's life cause if she took care of herself since she was nine i think her siblings could try and take care of each other and their own ass a little so she could start living but the way she didnt really helped ian, the way she shut down debbie and was sad when debbie shuted her down, the way she left carl to his white boy fase without as much as trying and the way she said to them put VERONICA and KEVIN first at their emergency call before her was insane and she should be dragged for it idc. she was always mean to her siblings romantic interests too and that really bugs me cause mandy put lip in college and mickey cared for ian.
lip fucking sucks. most people here think the similarity between lip and frank starts and finishes on alcoholism and appearance but i think its more than that, i think both of them are narcissistic motherfuckers. i cant think of a single time lip put effort in anything for any other reason than to satisfy himself. it is the most evident when you think about his relationships SPECIALLY tami and fred, but if you think about his desire to be a father, the way he treated fiona when she was down, the whole sierra fiasco and how he treated her sons daddy, the karen ian thing; he even said that he helps his alcoholic friends because he thinks that if they cant do it then certainly lip himself won't be able to do it. i cant hold ian to the same parameters, i only think deb fiona and carl are really there for each other but ian gets a pass cause hes just selfish to some extent. he is bipolar and shit went down when he was still a child; still, joining the army and sending no news was a dick move and when he was good and on his meds and working as an EMT i think he wasnt really there for his family, tho he cared for mandy. cant really say much cause most of the time he was out of himself or in jail.

This is completely trivial, especially since the bedchamber—or camp, or whatever it should be classified as—at the Elfsong Tavern is designed like that for the sake of gameplay and probably not so much for the sake interior 'design-realism' (whatever that means).
But
Since the bedchamber kind of has the appearance of a dormitory for travelers, it would probably have made more sense if the beds were alcove beds. Especially when assuming that the bedchamber isn't always occupied by an entire gang of people who know each other, and even then some more privacy would probably still have been nice.
I generally feel like fantasy games and other types of fantasy stories should utilize alcove beds more often. Especially when the fantasy world has this medieval, renaissance feeling to it. It's the olden times gosh darn it and people need to keep warm! Alcove beds do just that! AND they look cozy as hell!!
Just like people like to slap corsets on everything in historical fantasy settings we should have alcove beds everywhere and box beds too!!!
What i'm saying is that i'd like it if architecture, and interiors in video games where designed to emit the same sense of functionality as real world architecture and interiors.

The other day I was rewatching Hollowtone’s vod on Psychonauts 2, which is fun because of the chat overlay. And there’s the part where you can open the powers menu and see all the nice embroidered badges and the nice signatures of the teachers that gave you them…. except Sasha’s. And this makes sense, he wasn’t authorized to teach Raz psi-blast, so it would be really bad if he’s showing off his cool badges on his bag and someone sees Sasha’s signature. So Ford signed off on the marksmanship badge. But the chat in the vod is coming up with hilarious reasons why Sasha didn’t/couldn’t sign off on it, my favorites being:
“He’s only capable of of writing in Times New Roman”
“His handwriting is bad, toddler/doctor level”
“Sasha writes exclusively in latin”
“He actually can’t write”
“He uses telekinesis for everything, if he touches a pen he instantly dies”
And I was thinking about how ridiculous they were, but when I actually think about it… is there ever a proven time he actually writes something down? Like with his hands?
He’s living in a time period where typewriters existed, and in the current time, computers do, and therefore printers… And in one of the promotional comics he’s not even using his hands to eat with a fork, he just uses his powers. He uses telekinesis for most things actually. I don’t find it out of the realm of possibility of just using telekinesis to write things down. And then, I guess he’d never actually have need to learn to do it with his hands…
Maybe Sasha can’t write.

I have decided that Zane Flynt from Borderlands is the mysterious handsome rogue type but he fits the "mysterious" part in an atypical way.
He's mysterious not in the sense that you know nothing about him and he refuses to talk about it
But mysterious in the way that he talks about himself a LOT and you have a LOT of information about him and his past but everything he shares leaves you with far more questions than answers and idk I think that's wonderful

Watched Blue Eye Samurai over the winter and promptly lost my mind over my beautifully tragic, morally dark gray girlie. I had so much fun experimenting with different brushes for the background, especially since I don’t usually dabble in the more painterly textures.

the “izzy would be just as upset if ed fell in love with a woman!” argument for why izzy’s actions in s1 are not homophobic are so interesting bc like.
have you never seen a group of guys all rag on their buddy for spending time with their girlfriend? have y’all never heard the “oh, i guess we know who wears the pants” joke when a guy carries his girlfriend’s purse? have we seriously never heard the phrase “pussy-whipped” before?
Tumblr media
like. look at this picture. think about what it’s saying. “doing what your girlfriend says is bad,” for one. bad how? bad as in emasculating, bad as in it makes you less of a man, bad as in skinny naked twink posed like the start of a porno. bad as in gay. we’re getting to where the cishetero patriarchy really loses all logic, because this picture is saying, “listening to your girlfriend is gay.”
it overlaps. it all fucking overlaps. gender roles and misogyny and homophobia all tangle together and it’s nearly impossible to say where one starts and where the other begins. it’s emasculating for men fall in love and genuinely care about their partner, even if their partner is a woman. it’s emasculating for a man to wear a pink apron and clean the floors nude. it’s emasculating for a man to paint his nails and cry in a blanket fort and sing a song about his feelings.
in a modern setting, ed’s response to getting dumped by stede is the sort of thing that a group of douchey cishet guys would call gay, even if ed had gotten dumped by a woman. throughout the whole season, ed becoming happier, opening up, spending more time with stede instead of doing his usual brooding tough guy act would be called gay by that same group of douchey cishet guys even if stede were a woman. ed making loud high-pitched moans on the deck of the ship while he was sword fighting with stede would also!! get called gay!!!! even if that group of shitty guys thought ed was getting it on with a woman!!!!!!!!!
(and i am not saying izzy is cishet. frankly, i don’t personally care about izzy’s sexuality wild for the straight izzy guy to not care about izzy’s sexuality, i know. i am saying that izzy’s ideas about masculinity reflect a certain type of modern douchebag. even if izzy’s gay, that doesn’t make him exempt from having homophobic and sexist ideas about gender.)
and this show is written for a modern western audience. outside of like, the concept of an arranged marriage, this show makes no efforts to portray societal norms and gender roles with any real historical accuracy. this show is a deconstruction of modern toxic masculinity, told through a comedic and ahistorical setting of 1717 piracy. the characters of ofmd are up against the same cishetero patriarchy that says “caring about your girlfriend is gay” in our world.
so yes. even if izzy were upset that ed was falling in love with a woman. izzy would still be sexist. and izzy would still be homophobic. hope this helps <3

More for @chrisrin ‘s gemcyt AU!!! The knights my beloved!
I am happy with Wels and Hels. Having said that:
I like both Fire Opal and Black Fire Opal in general. I am conflicted on the design though. FO is more elegant and by far my favorite. However, BFO is much closer in tone to Hels and Wels. I also think it would be funny if the two swords just equal more swords. That was the original reason for the two designs; I could not decide on the weapons FO/BFO should have. The coloration of the two makes me feel like BFO would be more realistic in terms of fusion when looking at the counterparts. In my mind, to excuse having two designs, the fusion is very unstable and therefore the outcome is fluid. I imagine that depending on who is in charge the exterior appearance may differ. But BFO introduces another modifier to the gem type so I wonder if it would be more realistic to have it be a three gem fusion, especially with the introduction of more colors. The colors bring up another issue and that is the design. It was very difficult to balance the colors of BFO to look good together. However, I think this could be looked at positively as a representation of the incompatibility of Hels and Wels.
To summarize, Fire Opal feels too pastel and Black Fire Opal feels too complex/jarring so I am having trouble settling on one design.

Rambling ahead about Humans and Fae and their nature, please be warned it's messy and very pure stream of consciousness-y.
It's interesting that for Fae, humans are fleeting fancies with short lives but... humans are the same for each other too.
Like, as a species, we are obsessed with liminal spaces, of lines that cross once and never again, we are always aware of our mortality, we have deities and religions and intellectual movements dedicated to the concept of time and crossroads and liminality and meaning of life, we build, destroy and rebuild border and kingdoms and countries and inventions, we invented obsolescence, we have fleeting fancies, we have crushes, we marry, divorce, remarry, we can disappear from a previous life and go start a new one elsewhere, we have relationships that always hang in the middle...
Humans are more like Fae than they would think. Yet in a way, I find the former more resilient and unique.
If anything, Caerus is the living proof of how FRAGILE the Fae is. He gets dumped and he immediately loses all sight of logic and morality, succumbing completely to his emotions. He attempts to justify this moment of weakness with tradition and nature, but who is he trying to fool. Even to this day, he is stuck in that moment, he cannot let go of the "betrayal".
When you can compare him to MC's mother who saw how she was being treated and said, no, I refuse. I will not stay where I am mistreated despite all my efforts. And she escapes. She sees nothing wrong with that— she knows love existed but it's not enough, it's not worth the withering of her soul. She rebuilds her life. She finds love again. She forms a family. She finds happiness and meaning to her life. She is no longer consumed by the thoughts of Caerus. He was a moment in her life— lovely and horrible, and it passed.
Of course, humans commit atrocities at the event of a broken heart too, but such things are rare in the grand scheme of everything, and they require certain defects to pre-exist to come to where they are in the first place. When our heart is broken, we cry, rage, wallow... then we get up because "more fish in the sea!" We get support by friends and family, we have books for comfort and understanding— every moment of the human life is liminal.
In a way, I can understand why the Fae are so fascinated and disgusted by the Humans— because they have all that magic and long agespan and riches beyond belief, but humans don't, yet they drive far richer and more colorful lives than they do. Humans find meaning in everything they look and dissect, they get knocked down and they get up, they leave marks with or without meaning to, they can forget and move on. They can heal.
I dunno, man. Human vs Fae in fiction is fascinating to think when you (as in, general, not specifically you the writer) constantly portray the Fae as hedonistic creatures bound to their nature and rules and consumed by moments past, and that's what Humans not only are not, but actively rebel against such bonds, even if we know we might not be there to enjoy the fruits of our labour, but at least the ones after us will.
“He was a moment in her life— lovely and horrible, and it passed.”

tbh, i think the whole thought process behind how sylvie is written is that she is not attached to loki and her happiness doesn't at all depend on him in any way.
was their connection deep? did he impact her? "shatter" her world even? yes. this is why she is so angry at him. bc in her mind, he had betrayed her.
but he doesn't take up much more space in her mind. she goes on to live her life just fine without him at the end of both seasons.
loki is a different story, he is obsessed with her to the point of doing something completely "out of character" and being ready to sacrifice everything for her.
i personally love how "unequal" their relationship is in this way, but i understand that it's not the majority of shippers' cup of tea kind of dynamic.
this is an interesting interpretation! i enjoy getting to hear people's differing takes on their dynamic, so this was a fun read. and hey if unrequited is your trope then all the more power to you. you're braver than me, that's for sure.
i haven't rewatched s2 (and tbh idk if i ever will- it just didn't do it for me the way i wanted it to) but the consensus that "loki fell first and harder" def seems supported by s1 and enhanced by s2. which i think made it all the more shocking when she kisses him first. i love that little detail.
i have a different take, which is informed by episode 5- particularly the bar scene contrasted with the record shop scene. she tells him to go and live his life and move on, then immediately goes to a record shop, tells the man at the counter she had a bad day, and then cries to the velvet underground (it looked like crying, also possible she was just laying there and basking it all in, which is just as compelling in my opinion).
Tumblr media
to me that read as someone who is trying so hard to place their feelings in a convenient little box and ignore them and then running away when it doesn't work.
sylvie doesn't strike me as someone who can sit still, especially not after living through a million apocalypses and trying to ensure her survival. and while getting a job in oklahoma might not be the same frantic pace she's used to, i do think she threw herself into it (employee of the month placard i'm looking at you!) so she has a new life, a new job, time to do things like go to the bar and get a haircut and listen to music and do everything possible to just. not. process. the annoying feelings that the citadel situation brings up. just keep moving! just don't think about it! and so when loki rolls up at her work, she tries to push him away, tell him he's the last thing she wants to deal with, get him to leave. the tone in the bar scene felt like that to me as well. like she's saying just leave me so i can stop thinking about this.
of course, loki does not want to leave her- it's just that for some reason he is physically incapable of talking about anything but the TVA, who ruined her life and she justifiably wants nothing to do with hearing about how great they actually are. he is pretty skilled at killing the mood. (i take great pleasure in rewrite fics that make a show of addressing this)
am i blinded by shipping goggles and my own projection onto her? it's possible! but to me it read as someone in denial. when we hear sylvie talk about her love life on the train in s1 (a scene i LOVE because it seems so out of left field for her) we get a very clear sense she has no idea what she is doing when it comes to romance (and then flat out says so during the blanket scene). her experience with romance hasn't been anything real, to the point where i hesitate to even use the term "romance"- just centuries of numbing herself by staying busy with a fling. she is like a shark that will just collapse if she stops moving. which we get to see her do in the record store!
that's just how i read it though! your read on it is just as valid and i like hearing all of the different takes. i am by no means trying to persuade you to join my pining sylvie agenda, just using this blog as a means of idea exchange. which i love doing. seriously it's so fun.
