Hi everybody!

It's a new month, so it's time to celebrate how awesome squirrels are and also to do a site update and to thank our wonderful Patreon subscribers (and adjacent squirrels)!

For a site update, the big news is me and our website designer (Socketwench) are going to revamp the main website (eschergirls.com) and change the overall look, probably so the web version has a grid of post previews rather than just listing the posts in a row because the current setup leaves a lot of empty space since it only previews one line of text. Mobile users shouldn't see much change except we'll be removing or changing the scrolling menu bar so it doesn't block most of the post on small screens. We'll also be adding a popular tag cloud so people can more easily browse the blog if they want to casually.

If anybody has any other suggestions to improve the main site's usability and readability, please let me know!!! I'm very interested in feedback. I'm also working on the glossary and index, so people should be able to search the tags by category of character, series, genre, etc... and the glossary should explain what some of the terms like "boobsocks" (clothing that encases each breast separately like socks), "boob flounder" (both breasts on one side of the body), etc... mean.

Also, as usual, I've been working through the archives and fixing up all the old posts to match the current way I'm formatting my posts and to fix posts that were broken during the Tumblr export. I also add alt-text to every post I restore so people who use screenreaders can access them. This month, I fixed this post involving Marvel's Magik on an old trading card, the two posts with Boundless Comics' Ember (1, 2), and these old PLAY Magazine "Girls of Gaming" pages (1, 2, 3). I also fixed up this submission about how video game magazines used to advertise contests where you could go on a date with Lara Croft and stuff, and I edited the post to include an update with a link to an interview with one of the models who portrayed Lara for those ads, for those interested!

I'm still working my way through the Tumblr inbox backlog, so if you submitted a post a long time ago, you might see it pop up soon. Unfortunately, the way Tumblr does its inbox means the older it is the longer it'll take me to reach it. :\ I apologize sincerely for how long it takes me to get through the inbox sometimes.

I'm also still appealing the many incorrectly flagged posts on Tumblr, and the arbitrary algorithmic flagging, sudden rule changes, and other issues, are why I'm trying to fix up the main site to try to get it as usable for everybody as possible so Tumblr isn't the only way to view the blog, or the only place where it's archived.

I know it's repetitive, but it's also why I really appreciate everybody who supports us on Patreon and Ko-Fi. It gives me much needed help to pay for server costs, upgrades, domain hosting, and just keep the site going in general. :) I really appreciate that people think what we do is worth supporting <3

I saw your post on character reactions to the MC coming out as transfem, and wanted to ask you a question/give you a prompt: the MC coming out as a trans guy to professors Fig and Sharp (separately).

(Reasons for this, if you want to know: I want to come out to my family, but I'm not in the best headspace (stuff happened, not related to them), and I need some comfort (these two are my favourite characters, and I see Fig as a father figure).

Sorry for ranting, it wasn't my intention. I love your content, keep up the good work.

PROFESSOR FIG:

Professor Fig had been worried.

That morning, MC had sent him an owl, asking to speak together out on the Viaduct Bridge after dinner. He wondered if he misspoke the last time they were together— he knew something had been troubling them but didn’t want to press, yet he feared he pressed unintentionally.

After Miriam’s death, he found familial love in this now-6th year, seeing them as his own. He knew them well enough that sending a letter to meet after dinner meant that something was going on, and he only hoped he could help them find a solution to whatever it was.

Tugging his robe tighter around him, he watches his breath fog the air in front of his face. The sunset glows along the horizon as students passed him, dinner having come to a close and everyone eager for the warmth of their common rooms to finish the night.

Some stopped to say hello, others had a question on the recently-assigned essay, but it was when MC finally approached that he excused himself and told the other students he would be happy to talk more tomorrow morning before classes, if they had any remaining questions.

Once those students (rather begrudingly) left, he invites MC to join him with a wave. They smiled as they approached, leaning against the rail and looking out into the Hogwarts Valley.

“I see you got my letter. Thank you for meeting me out here.” They tell him and Professor Fig nods.

“Of course. After the tumultous year we shared last year, I see you as my own. You will always hold priorty in my life.”

He watches their smile falter. He continues, a small frown on his face and his brows creasing in concern.

“But I see something troubles you. Is everything alright, MC?”

“Yes.” MC nods. “It’s… something important. To me, at least.”

“If it is important to you, MC, then it is important to me too.” Professor Fig reassures them. “I will not force you to talk to me, but please know that I am always here for you. I am always by your side not because I brought you to Hogwarts and feel I must as an ambassador of some sort, but because I see you growing to become a caring, strong, and intelligent young adult.” There was a moment of silence as MC processes Professor Fig’s words, and finally, they take a breath.

“I-I’m trans, Professor.” MC finally looks at him. He could feel how quickly their stress levels shot up. “I’ve been using he/him pronouns in privacy among some friends, and a different name, and I’ve really been liking the… euphoria, it gives me.” Fig watches his breathing pick up, “I-I’ve been meaning to tell you for a while, it’s only been a few weeks, I just— I was trying to work up the courage—”

Suddenly, Professor Fig acts upon instinct and his arms wrap around MC in a comforting hug.

“It’s okay, MC.” He tells him softly. “You could have told me whenever you were comfortable and I would have accepted you regardless. I am grateful you feel you can trust me to be yourself until you are comfortable coming out in a more public manner.” He gives him one last squeeze in the hug before pulling away to look him in the eye. “Know that you can always trust me, but also know that you shouldn’t feel the need to tell me every little update. Take things at your pace, because this is your life. Regardless, I accept you as you are.”

MC lets out a little sob, leaning back in towards Fig and hugging him again. Fig returns the gesture, rubbing his back comfortingly. He could feel his shoulders shake as he cries— tears of relief, he hoped.

“I hope you know how wonderful you are, MC. You deserve nothing but happiness.” He tells him as the crying slowed to a stop and the two pulled away, “Now, tell me, what is the name you go by now?”

PROFESSOR SHARP:

“Class dismissed.” Professor Sharp’s voice carries over the dungeon classroom. The bustle of life among the 7th year Advanced Potions students replaces the silence that once was the environment of focus as they packed their belongings and headed out.

Profesosr Sharp passed each station to ensure the cleanliness of them, and he found himself halting at one, where MC still stood, eyes trained on their potion as they stirred the contents. He watches as they subconsciously lift a jar of crushed lacewing flies and sprinkled a pinch into the potion, turning it a teal blue.

“MC?” Professor Sharp asks and MC yelps loudly, practically throwing their ladle and it falls to the ground behind them with a loud clatter against the stone floor.

“P-Professor— I-I mean, yes, Professor Sharp?”

“I dismissed class. I suppose you didn’t hear me, but you are free to go— once you finish your potion here. It would be a waste of resources if you scrapped it now.” He pulls out his wand as he spoke, nonverbally summoning the ladle to his wand hand and cleaning it with a handkerchief he protruded from his jacket pocket.

MC finally looks around the classroom, blinking almost owlishly as they realized they were the only student left. Sharp sets the cleaned ladle next to the cauldron.

“Oh. I see. I’m sorry, I must not have been listening.”

“Do not worry. My next class isn’t until after lunch.” Professor Sharp shakes his head, setting himself on the stool in the station next to MC’s. “What are you creating here?”

“I wanted to create Felix Felicis potion, the luck potion we learned last week.” Professor Sharp raises a brow at MC and they shake their head. “Rest assured, Professor, I was most certainly planning on turning it in to you. I’m well aware we’re not allowed to have it as students. Purely educational purposes, this brew.” MC chuckles, and it pulls a chuckle from Professor Sharp as well.

“I understand. Please, continue.” He motions to the cauldron, watching as MC carried on with the potion-making.

It was silent in the classroom once more— a comfortable silence, that is— with only the bubbling of the potion filling the room. Professor Sharp watches MC as they work on their potion, their hands working expertly to perfect the potion.

“May I talk about something, Professor?”

“If it won’t take you out of focus, you may.” He nods. He watches MC take a deep breath.

“Ever since I started here at Hogwarts, in my 5th year, I found a new world that was so much unlike the normal world I came from. I love this world, I love Hogwarts, I love Hogsmeade and the people across Hogwarts Valley… I-I’ve always felt a little off, in the muggle world. When I wear trousers, I’d get looks of disgust in my direction. ‘Ladies shouldn’t need to wear trousers. It’s not right.’”

“I have found the Wizarding World to be far more accepting than the muggle world, particularly. Granted, much of my life has been spent among witches and wizards alike, but the few years I spent in the muggle world, undercover, had me wishing to return sooner rather than later. People are cruel.” Professor Sharp sighs, shaking his head. “I’m sorry that has been your experience growing up.”

“Thank you, Professor. The world, muggle and wizarding, can both be cruel in different ways.” MC agrees, “I remember, when Florence came out, the amount of pushback she still got among all the acceptance.”

“Florence is a strong young woman.” Sharp nods, “She is solid as a wall. The negativity didn’t affect her— at least, not outwardly.”

“I wish I was more like her.” MC sighs as they add an ashwinder egg to the mixture.

“You are, MC.” Professor Sharp is quick to reassure. “You saved Hogwarts from Ranrok when you were only 15. An incredible feat, especially to a retired Auror such as I. And that is not to say that Florence coming out is inferior to that— both are incredible feats in their own ways. It takes strength and bravery to achieve both.” He takes a breath, “Believe me, MC, you are a great wizard. You will go on to do amazing things, in whatever it is you decide to pursue after Hogwarts.”

“Thank you, Professor.” MC couldn’t hold back the grin spreading across their face. They take a deep breath. “I’m transgender, Professor. I’ve never felt right wearing skirts even from a young age. A part of me was convinced that I would have to deal with the unhappiness for the rest of my life. Be arranged to marry off and bear children, as my duty would have been as a woman in the muggle world. But here, in the Wizarding World, I have more hope— hope to take control of my own life and do what it is I want to do, wear what I want to wear.”

“I see.” Sharp nods, “Rest assured, MC, you’ll always have a home here in the Wizarding World, a place where you can be called however you’d like, wear whatever it is you like to wear… It’s your place to decide what you want to do, and who you want to be.” He stands again as MC turns off the heat to the cauldron, letting the boiling cocotion simmer to room temperature, cool enough to be transferred to vials. “That is one of the wonderful freedoms we get in the Wizarding World; the ability to choose for ourselves.”

MC nods, casting the cooling charm to speed up the process as Professor Sharp goes to retrieve a row of empty vials to put the liquid luck into.

“I know it’ll still be rough for a while. I haven’t come out to a lot of people yet. I’ve only told Professor Fig, Professor Weasley, and a couple of my friends. And now, you. Thank you, Professor.”

“I am happy you trust me to know, MC. Or would you prefer a different name in privacy?”

not gonna ask you to delete your blog but can you like. correctly tag your posts proship and not just include ship names and an obscure term only terminally online people use? because im not prepared to block every single incest/etc. ship name at 1am just so i can avoid a very genuine trigger that ive tried to axe entirely from my content pool for years

I'm sorry you never heard of the tags. I understand "comship", but "shipcest" is common in all fandoms and it's well known, that's why I use it. And if YOU (not "tErMiNaLlY oNlie") don't know it, it's not really my problem, I do not own you any tag, just to not tagging it incorrectly (which I didn't).

Also, if this entire blog is triggering for you, why do you even bother coming here, scrolling, and send me anonimously all of this?

I did use all the right terms and if you didn't know them, I'm sorry, but learn and move on. Just like I did before it was possible to do such things like "blocking tags of stuff I don't like/triggers me" - I was young and didn't know how it worked for very long time; STILL never complained or send such comments to people, even when I saw very inapropriate stuff for my age or stuff that triggered me as well, so no, it's not an excuse for your behaviour and I won't accept it. That's why I was aggressive and I don't regret it AND I will still be if somebody else, for WHATEVER REASON, comes in MY space and comments "eW wHaT iS ThIs?" instead of learn and move on.

I'm really disappointed that dol is on TikTok. It's hard to explore darker topics online especially when there are minor to adult interactions.

I'm not shaming enjoying dark content, you must get a choice in interacting with it.

DoL is a game you discover by choice and should never something you randomly see while looking at silly videos. rape is already a dark topic, but that's just the iceberg of DoL.

If you want a good example of how minors were treated badly / incorrectly, please think of my little pony. It's a good show for all ages and fan content is encouraged, however forcing unfiltered content on public platforms is terrible. Little kids didn't need to know about all these pony horror stories or how pinkie goes psycho.

We're lucky that Tumblr has ways to block tags or certain words because that's a rare choice you get. The internet isn't that simple or safe :(

This thinking point has always been a difficult one.

Because it doesn't matter if you create a website that is adult only. Without the ability to check IDs of users (which could easily get leaked and that's its own nightmare) then you have things where you just have to check a little box to confirm being over 18. And I don't know if you remember being a kid, but those signs mean fucking nothing. The tiktok thing is a prime example. Hell, even pre-internet how many things did you see of teens with magazines, gossiping with friends, "peeping toms".

So what can we do? We can dissappear into our private spaces - like discord servers. Until companies like Apple decide to ban nsfw content from their app store, making discord have to choose losing a large client, or keeping its freedom, just like tumblr.

And it doesn't fucking matter if you ban nsfw content in order to get rid of CSEM, or videos uploaded without permission of everyone in them. Because those who want those things will just find a sneakier way to get their jollies off.

So content creators - because of the stupidity of others and large companies - have to come up with things like the citrus scale. Have to figure out how to tag safely. Because we want our content to be seen and to have a community where we can share our thoughts and make friends, just like anyone else. We want our media choice to thrive and not die. DoL likely wouldn't be as big as it is without the ability to share content of it publically. Nor would BTD, nor would any hardcore game, anime, show, book, or whatever. As much as some hate fandoms, they fucking spread the word like nothing else.

And of course there's the issue of children's content becoming sexual. Which you see all of the fucking time. Not even MLP (even if it was/is rampant there), but I've seen a lot of porn of Disney characters. You remember Elsagate? That shit wasn't just adults finding a children's character attractive, it was using them to groom kids, too.

But adults still enjoy those happy shows. They still feel as much joy as the kids consuming them, and therefore want to use it to produce adult things. So what can they do, to appreciate their interests safely? Not a fucking lot. Just tagging. That's all we're left with. And it's getting harder and harder every day.

And let's not even mention the adult fandoms overrun by entitled children. That shit makes my blood boil. It's 🔪 not 🔪 for 🔪 you. Stop it. You're going to be groomed - if not, your mind will be warped into unhealthy ways of thinking. Trust me. I was one of you.

Hey Kay! I was wondering... I'm thinking of writing a Byler fic. Is there anything that's missing from the current fic library that you think would be good to see, in terms of tropes, characterisation, things to explore, etc? I would also appreciate hearing from your followers. Just any ideas that people would like to see in a fic.

yeah sure ...

1)We need more povs from Mike’s perspective. (Almost all are from Will’s pov - let’s mix it up sometimes)

Mike in canon is the pinning-gay -(overly romantic) whipped one , but we never see it. And he’s pretty much never written this way! Mike in s3 has 6 drawings from Will on his wall (he kept them up since s1-for years- despite replacing the poster on the same wall). Has even caressed extra drawings of Will’s that he’s kept in his binder. In s1 wrote a whole story for Will about defeating a monster and giving the king it’s 7 heads (cause Will rolled a 7 when the demogorgan attacked him.) And as a Star Wars fan he had his own character be given a medal by the king (like how leia gave the medal to Han for his heroism.) He attacked people for insulting Will. Literally hates apologizing -but is quick to do so for Will . Boy ran in the pouring rain twice for Will- disobeying cops, the government, and his parents to do so. He initiates every byler moment (arm thing, hand touch, ‘best thing i’ve ever done’, ‘crazy together, right?’, always asking Will “what’s wrong?” or “are you ok?” etc). And was upset at Will dancing with a girl + insecure about Will replacing him -after he moves away.

-but 90% of byler fanfics (don’t get me wrong some are good) are from Will’s pinning perspective. Also do people realize Mike is clearly the more romantic/ emotional open of the 2 while Will is clearly the more emotionally closed off/aloof one? He loves Mike too- but he’s def less obvious about his feelings- based on how he behaves. Will rarely opens up to people (Mike being an exception). But, it’s never written that way (usually it’s the opposite).

2) as a gay women all the reductive stereotypes annoy me. it’s obvious when fic writers try to have the gay romance be modeled after het romance- and try to make one into the ‘girl’/ ‘guy’. Duffers don’t stereotype Mike or Will but a lot of fanfiction writers do in order to make the gay romance resemble a straight one more (canon character traits, be dammed). Please, stop pushing heterosexual dynamics on gay and lesbian couples and trying to make one “the girl” and “the guy”. It’s very offensive and innaccurate.

Because he’s taller and most people head canon him as bi they make Mike a jock (despite in canon having horrible aim and not being able to run as fast as the rest of the gang). And Will (since most see him as gay) is weak/ sucks at sports compared to mike...despite knowing how to use a bat, shoot a gun, and being able to tear castle byers apart with his bare hands . Also nothing in canon shows Will likes to wear makeup and dress in drag (but it’s a constant thing that i’ve heard come up or heard others mention). It would be fine if he wanted to express himself in such a way. And if it only came up in an occasional fic it wouldn’t be a big deal. But it’s such a common theme that comes up (despite no canon evidence) that in most cases it just screams ‘straight writers trying to make Will into “the girl”’. Not to mention the huge emphasis of their height difference (shows this too). It can get annoying calling him “short” & “petite” (a term used for women) when will isn’t even the shortest guy member- and now his actor is way taller than gaten (dustin) a bit taller (I think?) than caleb (Lucas) and barely shorter than finn (Mike’s actor). But writers even in future fics write him as short...ok? ya’ll really can’t let go of making Will “the girl.” Cause ya’ll incorrectly equate shortness to femminity. It’s tiring. Some writers straight up say he’s “pretty “, “feminine” or “looks like a girl” 🙄

3) it’s not byler if it’s unrequited- stop tagging it as such

4) more emphasis on Will’s passions(art, writing, horror movies). Maybe in his upbringing with Lonnie.And jon being a good bro to him. Will’s Mental health issues maybe ?

5) mike is a socially awkward, clumsy, unathletic, (caring) science/sci-fi /D&D loving nerd. In au whatever- but mike is not a bro-y jock, or a cool bad boy. 😂 plus , more writer mike would be nice to see

6) headcanon him all you want -but at this point it’s pretty obvious (to me at least) Mike never loved el,and was just lying/confused/ projecting Will on her. And El is/was also confused and never loved mike. so it would be nicer to see that instead of Mike just ‘falling out of love’ with her. Mike is gay. people say in s3 Will saying “a day free of girls” is gay coded but everyone ignores Mike in s3 saying “BOYS ONLY”. same energy. writers even threw in a telemarketing joke so Mike says in s3 “El? no. sorry not interested.” And Mike has more rainbow refs than Will. Boy is clearly gay not bi (way too much evidence to talk about here) . They even compare mileven to ted/karen who “never loved each other.” The writers make fun of mileven constantly and say over and over it’s not actually romantic - (if you choose to read just 1 link read this one and get with the program) . plus, most Bi dudes wouldn’t stop being attracted to a girl the more fem she gets (and only be attracted to her when she looks like a “guy”(specifically their guy friend).which yes the characters in s1 said over and over again that El looked like a “boy”/“will”. And then they have him Makeout with her while putting up a drawing of said male bff on the wall (cause now she looks less like him) and so he needs to look at said bro, to stomach the makeout seshes/ and in an effort to transfer said romantic feelings from guy friend to gf. Then push his gf’s hands off himself during the kisses- sing to stop kissing, and kiss to mostly show off how straight he is. And without said pic- not kiss back and just keep his eyes open and not reciprocate. Nor would they have Mike equate het romance to something he thinks he has to do as a part of growing up . Bi dudes consider falling for a girl as simply romance not a foreign idea that has to be done cause there’s no other option and that’s ‘just what old people do’. Mike claims el is the only girl he’s ever had feelings for - but like dustin said mileven is “bullshit “ (stancy parallel -where nancy was not in love but faking it). So mike’s never been into a girl and is also into Will... so...

7) it’s the 80s they can’t just be open/ have pda in public (you could have gotten k*lled or beaten severely.) And most of their friends/fam would not take it well initially. (I think jon, Karen , and steve/robin would take it well... but not most of the crew.) although they’d all prob come around eventually . -Takes me out of a fic to have such historical revisionism when everyone is just totally fine with byler and they’re out to the public/strangers.

@nutsandvoltsweek I got some soft for that angsty heart, doctor's orders I'm afraid. I REALLY enjoyed this one, much much more than I can actually explain. I started writing this at like 1am because it wouldn't let me sleep, I eventually fell asleep but I got half of it done then so there wasn't too much left when I was able to get back to it.

There was something oddly fulfilling about performing for the king, he never looked impressed but deep down he enjoyed the show every time, though he would never admit it. And Tyrian liked to push the boundaries of what was truly acceptable in the king's court, it was something the guards hated him for.

It wasn't uncommon for Tyrian to suddenly approach his Majesty with no permissions, it sparked the natural instinct of the guards to protect their sovereign and there were times that it had almost ended badly had they not been halted by a direct order. King Arthur found it only mildly irksome that he would be approached so easily by the man of many tricks but he knew there was no danger to him and excused it.

Tyrian was adept with his hands, presenting a flourish during the intense telling of stories or at the end of a trick for flair, but it was his juggling that was most impressive, he didn't tend to use the regular means, instead of soft balls to throw and catch he used weapons. It was also not out of the ordinary for the mischief maker to steal the swords of the protective soldiers and balance them atop one another, either point to point or pommel to pommel, maybe sometimes a mix of both, he was able to find some way to balance them, much like he tended to find a way to balance himself almost anywhere too, whether that be a pillar or the king's own throne, a personal favourite spot because it was the most effortlessly irritating position he could find that guaranteed a scowl from many of the sentries, but he knew they couldn't stop him and since he didn't get in the way he was never directly told off for doing so by anyone who actually mattered so he kept doing it, his favourite part was sometimes leaning down to look into the emerald eyes of the only person who was allowed to sit there, they often looked back with raised brows and a comment about how he was perhaps being a bit too cocky and the response was to grin and giggle "Perhaps" yet he still never got chastised. The most negative response he ever got was a sigh.

He was clearly good at his craft, and there were many who couldn't stand him, thought his enthusiastic spontaneity was dangerous and irresponsible, though it still seemed to please their ruler who was never quite as mad as other observers seven if he didn't make it obvious.

Tyrian was essentially the only person who was actually allowed an unsupervised close personal audience with the king without having to announce himself (eventhough they would have preferred he announced himself beforehand he simply did not), he just appeared to bother his Highness whenever he could. He even had the audacity to incorrectly address the ruler calling him 'My Majesty' instead of 'Your Majesty' and sometimes even just 'Majesty'. In fact it was quite miraculous that he hadn't been accused of mutiny or the like as any other who dared to 'insult' the king in such a way would face death, but not Tyrian, his value to the court was his ability of charm and quality of amusement. He enjoyed showing up when he wasn't at all invited and hovering around quietly, certain visitors almost thought it was inappropriate but he was never truly reprimanded and so kept doing it time and time again, causing no disruptions despite some trying to claim otherwise.

There were other skills that some were less aware of but the most favourites of the sovereign was the unapparent expertise of knife throwing, despite the juggling and balancing you would never expect the jovial jester to truly be able to actually land an accurate hit with barely any effort, this had only been displayed once when someone attempted to cause harm to the crown and the guards had been unavailable or simply too slow to react, the attempted assassin had been the one to throw the blade, the target being the crown head, and yet they were the one who ended up getting hit; in an impressive set of moves Tyrian had pushed his Majesty out of his throne, caught the flying dagger before it struck the fine material, and fired it back in the direction it came, the strike landed wonderfully between the stunned eyes of a fellow trained for hostility. Trained to react against the king and his men but not for the King's court fool. Arthur was rather astonished, a little shocked but barely bruised from being shoved out the way, but entirely amazed at the swift involvement of his apparently innocent jokesmith with a deadly insinuation. While the royal may have been impressed his defenders were not quite so, though they couldn't be entirely displeased with this event. Arthur noticed there was a bit of blood in Tyrian's hand, upon inspection it was observed that in the act of catching the knife he'd caught himself, it was only minor but it was demanded that the doctor see to it, there was even some praise of thanks for saving the life. He was happy to have the attention of the single monarchy, he thoroughly relished in the attentiveness that multiplied after that event.

Years gradually passed and he was always welcomed even more into the castle, it was odd that he felt he belonged somewhere. The life of a fool isn't always so good-humoured.

One day his royal Highness had to leave on business and it was left to his steward to man the castle while he was away, there was only one empirical issue, they didn't like Tyrian at all. In the king's absence they'd ask for entertainment only to appear bored by it or laugh in such a way it didn't seem fair, this wasn't the same chuckle that sometimes managed to escape the mouth of the ruler, this laugh was more mocking and while Tyrian had grown up around those sorts of noises it got him a little annoyed. At one point the steward asked "Why do you insist on remaining so happy and bouncy all the time?" And Tyrian had smiled and responded delightedly,

"Because I know I am loved by someone" he knew that though King Arthur never showed it in reality his Majesty did appreciate his presence and that sometimes his little tricks really did make his day, though again he would never admit it. The steward laughed.

"You really think that the King cares AT ALL about /you/?" The smile faded from Tyrian's face, "Why would anyone CARE about /you/?" They didn't hold back, the jesters smile faded even more, "He pities you because you're pathetic and useless by any other means, it's not that he actually enjoys having you around it's just that he has to endure it to keep you complacent and loyal to his cause, not that you'd be of any assistance loyal or not" at this point the smile had turned to a sorrowful frown, if there was one thing that could hurt the jolly joker it was the thought that there was a chance his King actually couldn't care less about him. It hurt, those wounds cut deep, much deeper than any knife juggling accident could ever have gone. It scarred his soul.

Arthur was away for a while but when he returned he was, despite best efforts to keep emotions tightly reigned in, happy to see his favourite (and only) jester again, even if it was hard for him to express it. Business had been stressful, it was usually because of having to deal with other people for so long, he needed to relax and unwind with a good joke or a short tale or maybe a trick of some sorts but for some reason he could tell there was something not quite right about his dutiful jokester. He never usually had much of a conversation with Tyrian, it was generally one sided and mostly just in the form of a story with no requirements for contribution, so when he approached the young man while they were alone and asked him if everything was okay it came as quite a shock.

"Is everything ok? You don't seem to have as much heart, has something happened while I've been gone?" Queried the man with all the power. Tyrian blinked at him then remembered his manners and bowed lowly,

"Everything is fine Your majesty, nothing you should concern yourself with" he said as politely as he could. Arthur thought this was somewhat odd,

"Are you sure? It just appears that there may be something the matter, you're not acting quite as I recall you did before" there were attempts to hide hints of concern,

"I am simply remaining in my place Your Majesty, it would be improper for me to act wildly." This seemed to be a final straw

"Tyrian," came an oddly unusual soft tone, Tyrian couldn't help but look in utter confusion at this change of voice, "Are you okay? Something happened didn't it?" There was a silent refusal to answer but the shift of eyes to the floor indicated the truth, "You may speak, it is permitted..." He was trying, it didn't seem to work so another tactic was used, "I demand you inform me of anything that's happened to make you act this way." He stated. Tyrian still seemed reluctant but he couldn't ignore an order though he still took time to find the words.

"You need not worry yourself too much Your Majesty, I am aware you do not actually care for me in any way, I've been informed your apparent enjoyment of my display is simply pity…" he started to trail off, it upset him to think about it again.

Then Watts put a hand on his cheek, lifting his head up to initiate eye contact.

"And whom was it that told you that?" The tone was careful but there was an element of danger to it that Tyrian immediately picked up on, it almost made him shudder. Instead of giving a true answer he simply said,

"It is what I was advised" but the implications were there.

"Is that so?"

Tyrian looked into the royal green eyes that regarded him, he felt foolish for wanting to get lost in them, especially when a corner of them harboured some annoyance that was never going to be directed at him. Arthur smiled softly, his warmth threatening to melt the poor Scorpion.

"I don't want you to believe what you were advised, I want you to believe that I say"

Tyrian's eyes were wide and he was trying not to look too dreamy, he stuttered an awkward response "O-okay… I mean yes, o-of course.. Your Majesty" he was starting to feel like a fool

"I would never let anyone else be aware but I do care, you entertain me. Often your jokes and gimmicks tend to be the only thing I won't be so stone-faced about." His smile was slightly awkward, rather unbefitting of the leader of the kingdom, but somehow suitable for Arthur thought Tyrian. There was some mild hesitation as the other hand moved to hold the other side of his face, Tyrian couldn't help but enjoy the warmth of it. They stood there with the jesters face being cupped by an awkward King. Then Arthur touched his forehead to Tyrian's earning a little stunned gasp.

It was a sweet moment that neither really wanted to end, but it allowed the lord to realise that life would be a lot less interesting without his merryman to keep him company. He didn't want to imagine it.

What was the original post that sparked all this drama? I'm trying to piece it all together but it looks like boo's deleted most of the stuff from their blog (really, i'd appreciate a summary in general. i read your callout post but i'm still kinda confused)

Hey there! Sorry for responding to this so late. I think a sort of summary is in order right about now. Keep in mind that I’m writing this, so it’s from my perspective.

A couple things: A lot of my screenshots are proof of repeated behavior as opposed to directly related to the most recent thing on the timeline.

I’d also like to emphasize that the “white person named India” from my original post, whom I incorrectly used the term “girl” for, actually goes by they/them pronouns. This should really go without saying, but to everyone reading, please don’t misgender them!

So, Boo made a post complaining about about “nasty” writeblrs, and a lot of people had some...questions. Some people wanted to know if she was talking about people writing smut, which they brought up pretty politely. I have a screenshot of Ginger’s tags in my original post. Boo responded politely to Ginger initially (which Boo pointed out in her reblog of my original post), and then she blew up at some other people and also Ginger after that. I have screenshots of what was essentially her “callout post” below. A lot of her friends went after people. It was...big wild, and there was a lot of frustration at Boo’s self-victimization.

I was...super fed up at what I’d seen of these people’s behavior both recently and in the past. They’d really had enough chances; many people were polite to them many times, and they showed that they were unwilling to address their flaws. So, I made my post and included those examples.

Then the....deluge....began. I actually believe I edited the post last night to reflect that they didn’t actually apologize and only acknowledged that they worded it poorly, but I guess this website ate that because the developers are incompetent lol! I don’t know where they stand and I’m not trying to, like, blame them by bringing them up here.

I also got a lot of support from a lot of people during this time, and some really great conversations began to pop up! I truly am glad that my words seemed to resonate with a lot of people on writeblr, especially a lot of poc on writeblr. This happened both in anons and in messages.

Sometime when I was asleep/not paying attention, Boo and incandescent-creativity deleted their responses to me.

I had some awesome conversations with a lot of people, which you can look through my blog to see! I cleared some stuff up with people, and received some apologies, which was nice.

Others have said it before me, and a lot of people just sorta dismissed them. I guess it took names being dropped to actually elicit a response!
