Why is it that the Minecraft community is so unbelievably *bad*?

Maybe that's not the perfect phrasing, but hear me out here for a hot minute, and offer me an answer if you can, it's be greatly appreciated.

I haven't been in on MCYT long. However, I have been on exposing channels for an absurd amount of time, and I've seen a lot of creators rise and fall. Since I got really into MCYT l have seen the falls of Forever, Dream, and now Wilbur Soot, all well known and incredibly popular creators. And all for incredibly serious reasons.

And I don't understand. Is it simply that the power the larger creators have gets to their head? The wrong people get popular? The bad minority shouts the loudest? Because I've run through a lot of circles of the internet in my years, and even just one video game over things are unbelievably calmer.

People preach for their fave creators and prop them up on pedestals or they cast them to their feet and call each and every single one of them a flaming trash bag of shit waiting to blow.

I'll take the Legend of Zelda as an example. I have been involved to some degree in that fandom online for the last four years, and the biggest controversy I've seen was when SmallAnt and PointCrow had a falling out. They eventually reconciled, behind scenes, out of the public eye. But it was unremarkable, and nowhere near as opinionated as every. Single. Conversation. About a Minecraft YouTuber ever.

Their fans don't argue every creator is dirt, but they rarely prop thier favorite up on a pedestal either. (Smaller fandom = chiller fans? Something like that?)

It could be size. It could be that I got lucky with the sides of the fandoms I was on, or that I'm just looking at this differently now.

But I don't get how the Mario community has minor issues with disappointment or embarrassment or getting upset over smaller things that are solved through just being adults and such a large amount of mainstream Minecraft creators are faced with grooming, or sexually messaging minors, or /abusing their partner/. Because where other communities have disputes, MCYT has crimes. And if that isn't something people haven't talked about yet, then I think we should.

Interlude 1 - Jack is a poser again. Sucks to be the Merchants, can't say I'll miss them. Jack trying to sound all clever with his carrot and sticks thing, but most of what he lists for the other Nine is really obvious. And he misses some stuff as well. Poser. I could lead the Nine better than him (not that I would lead the Nine, just that if I did I would be better than Jack).

Interlude 2 - God damn this is a doozy. Shit ton of Cauldron lore. Battery backstory. Assault backstory. I made a "now kith" joke when they fought for the very first time cause I didn't realize who they were yet. It was supposed to be a joke. I did not want them to end up together. if the rumors are true (the rumors being facts that people know about curt’s fate because he was a real life human being who lived and uh. died.) and curt’s death is happening this early on in the series, then literally the only thing that will get me to keep watching is if episode three ends with bucky realizing that curt is dead and staring off into space with the same empty longing that he stared at curt with when he rode away in the back of that truck, which is the same stare that he gave him when he first saw him alive after the mission, and will now be the stare that he gives whenever curt’s name is mentioned and he’s reminded that he’s lost the only person in the world that could get him to feel something.

and then, and this is important, i need episode four in its entirety to be a flashback of their time at bootcamp in walla walla. for curt’s death to matter, i need to see whatever earned curt such a tender spot in bucky’s heart. i need to see their shenanigans and get to know their inside jokes and i need to see all of their time spent together (how many other times have they snuck off on their own? when was the first?)

if they want to give curt’s death the weight that it deserves, i need to watch bucky fall in love with him. and then i need to see it brought to the present. show us the kiss they shared after curt threw that punch and knocked feeling back into bucky. show us the lighthearted drunken kisses that bucky left on curt’s cheek after giving those british bastards what they asked for. show us the tiny moment of intimacy that they got to share before this final mission. show us a last kiss that they don’t know is their last kiss, softened by curt joking, always joking, that he’ll be bucky’s guardian angel when this is all over.

and then, and only then, we can return to bucky in the present, learning what it means for it to be all over.
