i'm struggling to put this into words lol

you probably noticed that i've been less and less active on here. the last two months have been very hard on me and i've been in the process of moving blogs for a fresh start to hopefully rekindle my love for writing for myself again.

i don't know what i'll do about this blog yet, i'll probably delete it in march so everyone can enjoy my works for a little longer. i just don't want to be on this blog anymore, it feels tainted with everything that happened in the past few months i've been back on tumblr.

thank you to the 260-something people who follow me and to all the people who gave my works so much love <3 it's very appreciated and i'm hoping that you'll find me on my new blog.

See, the thing about the Amy episode that makes Dean’s actions so reprehensible is not only the part where he doesn’t trust Sam and goes behind his back to kill Amy or even the hypocrisy of Dean ‘you can’t change what you are so you’re going to kill someone eventually’ Winchester sparing the kid right after stabbing his mom, it’s that Amy is very explicitly supposed to be a Sam parallel. There is no other way about it, from the they’re both freaks part of it to Dean dropping the line about ‘the other shoe’ right before he kills her, she is Sam, how Dean reacts to her is supposed to give us insight into how he feels about Sam. And Dean. kills her.

The not very subtle subtext being that Dean is ready to off Sam if he goes too far off the deep end? He’s aggressive and mistrustful of Sam at every turn in the episode, lays the feet of it all at Sam’s hallucinations maybe leading him astray, but end of the day, Sam’s crimes here are A) was tortured in Hell and B) is traumatized by that in a way that makes Dean’s life more difficult.

And it is hard to watch. To spend this whole episode with Sam being completely functional on his own, making a rational decision based on past experience and on all the information about Amy he has available, and for the episode to end with, ‘but yeah, if dean thinks sam goes too far, he’s probably gonna kill him. because sam can’t change or be fixed, so it’s for the good of everyone that he be put down.’

#and then of course there’s the issue of the subtext setting something up that gets no resolution like. there is no point where dean is ever #really going to be able to kill Sam. no matter how bad his hallucinations get. not even a mercy kill crosses his mind later that season #which means that the Amy episode gets rewritten later from ‘explicit Sam parallel’ to ‘well we can use this for Brother Drama™️’ #god. god. and really what gets me about the Amy episode in general. like Thee Horrifying Part to me. #most of their hunts are very life or death. that’s how we get around the morality of it. either they kill the monster or it kills them. #Amy’s. not that. Dean tracks her down while she’s running and kills her while she’s asking him not to. #like if she had attacked him the scene would be totally different. but she doesn’t. she doesn’t even fight back. and he kills her. #like she has a kid and Dean is an unfriendly hunter in her motel room. it wouldn’t be out of the question for her to try to kill him #to protect herself and her kid. but she doesn’t. she doesn’t. I don’t know what you can take away from that except that she was telling #sam the truth about not wanting to be a murderer. if she won’t even try to kill Dean to protect herself. #there is no way to look at this episode that makes Dean come out looking good unless you’re willing to claim everything Amy said was a lie #AND that Dean would be right to kill Sam for *checks notes* Being Visibly Mentally Ill #fucked up. why’d they do this. #spn #dean winchester #sam winchester #amy pond #like to be clear if you’ve got a different view on this that’s. not the above thing I just said. please tell me. #because from where I’m standing Dean doesn’t come out of this clean in any way

okay so I’m thinking yknow like vampires. Vampires are undead so if they die then I don’t think they could leave a ghost. But werewolves? Werewolves are just people who got cursed furry style. They still have souls. If a werewolf died I think they could totally play by the usual ghost rules of violent deaths and unfinished business etc. so then I’m wondering, if a werewolf dies and leaves a ghost, is that ghost still a werewolf, or did dying break the curse? Cause like. Imagine. Youre a ghost but you still turn into a wolf every full moon. And your wolf sona is just out there acting an undead fool once a month. So anyway let me set the scene. Old house, next to some woods. The locals say some old loner died out there in mysterious circumstances. A couple moves in, they’re so optimistic. It’s so scenic. What a lovely private piece of land. Only… ah. It’s got a bit of a wolf problem. Oh well it’s the woods they expected some wildlife to come with that. But then,, hmm. The house might be haunted too? Yikes. Now this couple will soon discover that on the bright side, these two big issues are actually only one big issue. Unfortunately that one issue is a werewolf ghost.

#werewolves #ghost #and like I must emphasise that this is a comedy story #the couple are the working class pragmatic sort. not spiritual or superstitious in the least #they try out all the normal methods of dealing with pests and wolves and old creepy houses first #a local animal expert ranger guy gets called in because the couple is like we have a wolf problem please help and the ranger dude is like #welp you live where the wolves live so that’s on you tbh. but this is weird wolf behaviour so I’ll check it out #and then he comes up and he’s like I think the wolves around here on drugs actually #when the couples exausted their reasonable ideas they’re like :/ welp. time to call an exorcist #guess it’s time to call an exorcist #the ranger sticks around even after it turns out to not be real wolves cause he’s professionally interested in the fact it’s a werewolf #the nearest exorcist is like a day away so there’s various cuts to this priest or whatever driving to the middle of rural now where #and he’s keeps getting into mishaps along the road #like his car breaks down #he hits a deer and then holds a mini funeral and service for the deer #mayeb the deer turns into a ghost and follows him on his way to the werewolf ghost #thatd be something right #when he gets there he’s sprinkling the holy water and doing the chants #and it’s not working but they can tell something is up #they try to use a ouija board but it just keeps saying Awoooo #so then the couple and the exorcise call in one of those people who hold seances #and the werewolf is just like my fucking guy you don’t think I’ve been through this before? #i had people trying to exorcise me while I was alive man! #please picture the werewolf man saying that with a heavy New Yorker accent #oh but it’s important to note that this is not taking place in the US #I am picturing this being set in Italy. in like the Alps or something #I think it being set in Italy gives a certain catholic pizzazz to the ghost aspect #the alps have wolves I looked it up to double check #it wouldn’t have mattered to me if there weren’t wolves that would have just added to the comedy #but there are apparently 900 wolves in the Alps

So a little IDW!TMNT theory I've cooked up

Recently, one of the creators for the comic — One Ms. Sophie Campbell — stated that as of issue #112, about 5 years have passed since the series started. You can see her post here.

Now I've gone back to read the issue to confirm, and it looks like at some point in the process, "5 years" got changed to "several" as you can see on this page.

Now, it seems like at some point, "five years" was changed to "several years" (and we can tell that this was a later change due to how clunky "we're only about several years old" is as phrase. We're going to take Ms. Campbell's word, though because a) I trust her memory and authority on the subject as both the author and artist for this issue and b) it makes things much more interesting.

Here's why:

In issue #69's (nice) Ninja Notes editorial column, editor Mr. Bobby Curnow (at least, I assume it is Mr. Curnow who responded to the letters to the editor at this time. Regardless, the point stands) states that the turtles "span roughly from fifteen to nineteen," as you can see here:

Now, issue #69 came out in May of 2017. Issue #1 came out in August of 2011. Following our 2:1 ratio, that means it had been three years since the start of the series. By extrapolation, that means the boys were twelve to sixteen as of issue #1.

But wait! There's more!

Issue #1 establishes that the turtles mutated 18 months prior to the start of the series, which puts them mentally at ten-and-a-half to fourteen-and-a-half.

And now we draw it all together:

In the IDW continuity, the Turtles and their father are the reincarnations of the Hamato family, all of whom were executed by Oroku Saki several hundred years ago. If the boys were about mentally about ten to fourteen when they mutated? That means they were about ten to fourteen when this —

— Happened.

Now, all this is done without taking into account some in-universe time skips. Comic book time is very Jeremy Bearimy like that. But I think it's close enough that I can confidently say not a one of those boys was over 16 when they were murdered, and I think the younger they are the more heartbreaking everything is. They spent almost their whole lives on the run, training to get vengeance, only to die before they could even be considered adults. And then Splinter goes and sets them on the same path when they get a second chance at life...
