Piglins offer things of use in exchange for gold. They give you boots enchanted to allow easy passage over the land of souls that they avoid. They give you iron, gravel, fire charges, and obsidian, a quiet but clear message (just in case you need to go home). They give leather, arrows, string, basic supplies to keep you going. They give the same blackstone they've built their homes from (in case you might want to build a home here too).
Piglin know how to brew potions. They have bottles of water and fire resistance potions and they'll offer both to strangers that pay. They grow nether wart in the ruins of their homes. There is no natural nether wart to be found in the nether. Only what the piglins grow, and what can be found in the gardens of Fortress. It is the base of all potions, one of two essentials that must be farmed.
The other essential is blaze powder. Piglins must have some, they make potions after all, but they have no farms for it. Not anymore.
But there are fortresses. Fortresses built around blaze spawners. Fortresses with gardens of nether wart. Fortresses that were built and than abandoned. Chests with scraps of supplies left behind.
These fortresses are made of bricks. Netherrack bricks blocks, holding strong after all these years. These bricks aren't found naturally in the nether outside of fortresses. You can craft them yourself, or you can get them from one other source.
Piglins will offer you netherrack bricks. They have them. You won't find it in their bastions. But they will offer them all the same. They still remember how to make them. Maybe they used to build with them, once, a long time ago.
Piglins will wander into fortresses, but they do not call them home. Wither Skeletons do. Wither skeletons infest the fortresses, roaming around as if this is their home.
Piglins will hunt hoglins in groups, but there's no inherent hostility. Their children play together regardless of their parents quarrels. Hoglins are food, but not an enemy. Wither skeletons are not food. Yet Piglins are hostile to wither skeletons without provocation. A wither skeleton is known to be dangerous, is known to be a threat. A pest infesting a stolen home.
When offered gold, Piglins will give you many items. Things to keep you going, to help you get home, to help you stay where you are. But in that list, they will also offer netherrack bricks and ender pearls. Oddities in the lineup. Both have their uses, but both also send a message (if you want to go where they did, here's a hint, a helping hand. perhaps in hopes you will find something there they could not, or perhaps in hope you will manage to come back safely. whose to say).

Piglin stuff bc im. bored and kinda sad.
-Piglins are a Netherian race of anthropomorphic boars. The term “piglin” is an Overworld name for the race, literally meaning “pig-like” or “derived from pigs”. the term was adopted by the piglins, who’s word for themselves could be translated to a similar phrase.
-Piglins are matriarchal and live in clans but the eldest son of the clan is trained as a brute, or soldier in the multi-clan bastions as a representative. “brute” is, again, an Overworld name based on the Piglim word for soldier, which is a grunt that sounds a bit like the English word “brute”. the Piglin word is actually more like “brrutk.”
-Piglin language (Grüntish) is made up of a series of grunts, oinks, and squeals. one grunt can mean many different things based on culture, context, and tone. for example, take “brrutk”. that grunt or word can translate to soldier, eldest son, diplomat, or even villain depending on how the grunt is enunciated.
-Because Piglins naturally have a warmer body temperature, about 115° F or 46° C, cold temperatures are a better indicator of illness than warmer temperatures. the zombie virus, also known as the rotting disease, is a disease that happens when Netherians are exposed to colder temperatures or are ill enough that they become cold.
-The rotting disease pandemic hit the Nether severely, wiping out fauna and flora for a long time before it was managed. Piglins, their forests, and their main sources of food (hoglins and striders) were especially affected.
-Piglins make their clothes from hoglin and strider leather. Their main source of meat is hoglins, and they usually tame striders as transportation. Hoglins are sometimes captured and placed inside of bastions to protect the area or be released in battle against enemies, but this is extremely dangerous and therefore quite rare.
-Professions within Piglin clans are loose and unspecialized, since every clan member needs to learn and act as farmers, doctors, and hunters simultaneously. Matriarchs (Kruuk), heirs, and high-ranking men in clans do the same work as the rest of the clan
-Clans are family based, but sometimes can contain as many as four or five family units. These are organized and ruled by the oldest women from each family, all working together as one democratic “council”
-LGBT identities are honored in Piglin communities. transwomen who used to be brrutks are particularly respected for their ability to become kruuks and their experience in a bastion.
-Bastions (military bases that are organized and run by multi-clan alliances) are manned by the brrutks, prisoners, and volunteers. Serving in a bastion is both an honorable thing and a punishment depending on why you are there.
-Killing a hoglin is the most honorable thing a piglin can do, and an apprentice piglin (a younger member if a clan who is training) killing their first hoglin is a cause for celebration as it marks the end of their training. Hoglets (baby hoglins) are never hunted, but they can be captured to be brought into bastions.

My Piglin Headcanons !
Piglins have a lot more body fat than humans as they often must go without food for long periods. This does not mean they are just blubbery however, as piglins have considerably more muscle mass as well, which makes them considerably stronger and more resilient in their environment.
Their large ears help dispel heat to keep cool, and also to detect prey and other piglin over vast distances.
Similar to how some humans developed yodeling to communicate over long distances, piglins have developed various vocal techniques to herd strider and hoglin and signal to other piglin tribes or bastions over the Nether’s large, precarious mountain ranges and chasms. Because it is an enclosed space, the sound can echo off of the walls and travel a great distance.
Piglin settlements and communes are often found nestled in valleys or banks, which are often cooler and shielded from the lava “oceans” heat. Their culture is entirely dependent on crimson fungus, strider and hoglin meat, and so they often set up camp near crimson forests.
Due to there being very few true plants able to survive in the nether, piglins cannot digest most vegetables from the Overworld. Their stomachs are evolved to mostly digest meat. Travelling groups of piglins often eat dense, highly nutritious foods similar to pemmican, but made from nether ingredients.
Piglin have a high resistance to multiple hallucinogenic chemicals produced by Nether fungus, having a far less potent reaction than one would see in a human. They are also immune to multiple toxins found in the flesh of native nether life forms, such as magma cubes.
Recreational hallucinogenic substances are very important to piglin culture, and has influenced their mythology, medicine and philosophy.
Inspired from the Farmers Respite mod, an expansion to farmers delight, coffee beans are one of the few native but rare plants of the nether. Due to this, piglins are the inventors of coffee, which helps keep them active and alert during long treks and hunts.
Like dolphins, when piglins sleep, a part of their brain remains awake. For unknown reasons which baffle Netherologists, entities which enter full REM sleep while in a dimension they do not originate from have a very high chance of spontaneous combustion. Due to their Overworld ancestry as wild pigs millions of years ago, Piglins have had to evolve to combat this.
Piglins have three main universal forms of language. Vocal language, which is both talking and non-speech vocalizing. Piglin sign language - which is used with extradimensional beings such as humans or Endermen as neither can physically speak piglin very well, as well as deaf or mute piglins. And finally, their written word, which consists of symbolic hieroglyphics. Stone tablets are typically used, and smaller tribes or communities may not use it.
Bastions are vastly different to other piglin communities, as they are closed religious groups. They only allow outsiders (piglin or otherwise) if it is by blood or formal invitation by a religious leader. Piglin of the bastion may be hostile toward humans and players, as humans have stolen from them in the past during tensions between piglins and human explorers, which occurred before the fall of the ancient humans.
Nearly all Piglin worship their goddess, a golden sow, which represents different things depending on what tribe you’re talking to, but usually power and honor. This may stem from the fact female aligned piglins are larger and thus considered more powerful in their society.
This is why gold is very important to them. Contrary to outdated beliefs held by old school Netherologists, gold is not a piglin currency - piglins trade goods for other goods amongst themselves, not with currency but with produce (there’s probably a word for this but idk it. Things don’t have fixed prices, you can buy a basket of mushrooms and pay that with some hoglin meat yk what I’m saying). Gold is rather a sign of respect and allyship, hence why if one wears it you will be allowed near hunting parties who may share some of their resources with you.
Piglins have a peculiar ability to detect disturbances in a soul. For example, they will be heavily psychologically affected (moreso than others) by soul sand, and may be wary of players (humans that have altered souls & can respawn) as opposed to normal humans (when they die, they die.)
Piglins raise their piglets communally and tribes are often led by an older female. Piglins, like all minecraft creatures, are intersex, and, again, like all other minecraft creatures, can alter their hormone levels naturally - a piglin that decides to remain with high levels of estrogen is what I mean when I say a female piglin.

Lore Scraps from MC Legends
I just finished playing Minecraft Legends and it was good! And there was a lot to take away from it in terms of Minecraft lore, which I’ll list here. Spoilers ahead
This not only takes place in a Villager legend, but in an alternate universe to vanilla Minecraft. So we can pick and choose what lore we want.
The Piglins appear to be in possession of the Orb of Dominance from Dungeons (although it could hypothetically be any purple cube of death). So the entire war is the End killing two birds with one stone.
The fossils from the base game appear and they’re much bigger. The Piglins haul fossils to create their bases and the skeletons build their homestead around one.
The zombie homestead is built around a giant corpse flower.
The creeper homestead is carved out of a sulphur deposit.
Hoglins get big. You’ll be mistaking the lava launchers for elephants. The concept art claims this is age though I like to think it’s a different species.
The Piglins themselves obviously get big too.
Legends continues Dungeons claim that Piglin survival versus zombification in the overworld is related to Nether fungus spores.
They divide the Piglins into three hordes: the Horde of the Bastion; of the Hunt (so yeah the usual lore assumption of bastion and crimson forest hunters being separate is confirmed); and of the Spore, from the Warped Forests
Three new Overworld mount species! The Regal Tigers as seen in the gameplay demo, and also Big Beaks and Brilliant Beetles!
Prismarine is associated with the Well of the Fate and the magic dimension within. Ocean monuments are unseen.
Lapis Lazuli is used to make robots (I won’t call them golems) instead of pumpkins.
The robots predate the villagers, and helped the Hosts create the overworld.
Oh yeah, creationism is true in this world.
We see the birth of the illagers as those villagers that take arms against the Piglins

Cahira
Cahira is a hot-headed, prideful hunter. They're always on the lookout for their next prey, if they aren't already chasing them down for who knows how long. Unlike most piglins, they don't care for gold so much. Rather, they live for the thrill of the hunt. The joy of accomplishment. If anyone were to get in their way, they'd better be prepared for a hard smack to the head. Despite this hardy demeanor, they try to look out for the little guy in this harsh, cruel world where society must favor the strong. It's what they would've wanted sooner. Regardless, they are content in this place they call home. They have no real desire to leave. No reason to go... right?

Her overworld friends just call her Vida (cuz she brings the party)
EDIT: NEVERMIND- Her name is now Amalie and her nickname is Millie
THE MEANING WORKS OKAY? "gentle strength/strong in work"

Hello! I saw your designs for piglin outfits from last year, and thought they were really cool! I was wondering though if you had any thoughts on piglin hairstyles?
Ya know I don't think I've ever thought in depth about their hair really.
My basic thoughts are that their hair is more coarse and thick- kinda similar to the fur of wild boars- more wire-y and spiky. Thier hair stays standing rather than falling down, but it's still somewhat straight.
Short hair is more practical, especially for patrol piglins who find themselves wading through Crimson forests, and brutes who engage in close combat- you don't want anything extra your opponent can grab.
That being said, long hair for all piglins is seen as the ideal, often times retired piglins will grow their hair floor length. Piglins who stay in the bastion and shoats will also often sport longer hair. That being said, that's an ideal not a norm and piglins sport varying lengths to their desire.
Braiding is a big bonding activity between piglins and they have a wide variety of different braid styles. Decorations in the hair like gold clasps and beads are also very common.
There was one post, I need to find it, that showed different braids as signs of worship for specific Gods/ what jobs they do which oof I loooooove that post so much.
I'm open ears to all headcanons as well so if ya have any ideas, feel free to throw them my way 👀👀👀

I saw a hc that since piglins probably don’t have much body heat due to residing in the nether and therefore needing to stay cool, Techno’s cloak is dusted inside with either magma cream or blaze power to keep warm, would make for a sick excuse to draw sparkly gold specks inside his cape
OOO THATS SICK
sparkly
i always imagine that techno runs warm because it gives me the opportunity to make Wholesome Hug Moments but your idea makes much more sense lmao
dude’s gotta stay warm

thinking of technoblade and instruments and music. in the nether theres probably a lot of heavier beat-based music; stringed instruments need room to vibrate and echo which is why you cant leave a guitar in the heat because it will warp the wood. stringed instruments, with their need to reverbrate, would eitehr half to be made of strong would that would muffle the vibrations, or would have to be played in caves with GREAT acoustics and would still not be as effective.
But drums? Percussion instruments? i'd imagine theyd do very well. perhaps not optimally, as heat will still warp a drum, but it would last a hell of a lot longer and be much louder.
Bands of piglins playing music in their crumbling bastions, celebrating life and continued survival, birth and deaths and passage into adulthood, just... celebrating. being happy.
and then comes baby technoblade. a little guy, raised as normally as possible, up until he starts to hear the blood god, and is taken away so the rest of the bastion cant be hurt as he learns. There is no more music as he fights, nothing except the beating of his heart and blood rushing in his veins. The comforting thump of his heartbeat is the only music he has, but that metronome is steady. So when he makes it to the overworld he can thump out broken songs from his bastion, changing them as he remembers and loses little pieces of it until he has his bastion song for one.

Do you think baby Piglins have little toys that resemble the long extinct megafauna of the Nether. Much like how we have dinosaur plushies and other small joys? Creatures long dead and gone, living only in our collective imagination. And in the hand’s of someone playing make believe. Pieces together from what little remains and loved all the same.
