The Nether is not uniformly heated, and has an atmosphere of dense gas that allows airborn organisms to thrive. Things get a little cooler and a lot more humid the further you go from the lava “oceans”. Despite how it seems, the Nether DOES have a lot of water — But it’s gaseous, not liquid. The nether is extremely humid, swamped in large amounts of water vapour that is typically too hot to condensate. The only areas it can condensate are in crimson and warped forests, where the fungi serve a similar function to baobab trees. Native nether organisms don’t have blood, they have a pneumatic system instead. Ghasts move through the air by inhaling and exhaling huge amounts of hot air, and have large sacks called ballonets that keep them buoyant. They feed on swarms of spores, static SE (soul energy) and microorganisms, and are highly territorial. They will brutally attack any other large organism in their territory, including their own young.

In my head-canon for Minecraft's "history", these two are (technically) the same species.
Tumblr media
It all stems from my perception of the Ancient Builders. Its mostly inspired by the comics of the amazing DongLie (check them out their work is amazing), with some changes to fit with how I see the elements the game lays out.
For one, I believe the Ancient Builders' ultimate goal was eternal life. Their hubris is why they're "extinct". And two, there were 4 Mistakes that lead to their downfall.
I'm gonna go over these 4 Mistakes some day, but the second and fourth one is what I'm going to go into in some detail.
So what does any of this have to do with the Wither Skeletons and Endermen?
Well, first I must describe the second mistake. And to rationalise why it happened, I must also touch on the first mistake; the creation of Creepers. I believe the Ancient Builders created Creepers in their desert temples as their first foray into eternal life. This attempt fundamentaly changed the Overworld, cursing it to produce these creatures every night. I believe Zombies, Skeletons and Spiders have always existed in the Overworld, and the Ancient Builders had adapted to them the same way we have. But the Creepers rocked their society. Some of them went deep underground (leading to the third Mistake), and some of them went "deep" I.e: to the Nether.
This is where the second mistake occurs. They found the Piglins, whose corpses became reanimated upon their death. Not anything crazy, the same thing happens to Ancient Builders in the Overworld, if not for the fact that Zombified Piglins have actual awareness. Immortality through zombification became an option and the Builders deduced it was true to the Nethers sand trapping souls from across dimensions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So they buried their dead in the large valleys of this sand, and they became reanimated. It was exactly what they wanted, they were aware and immortal.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately a complication ensued; Piglins had adapted to soul sand, but the Builders hadn't. Those who had been buried rapidly found their flesh withering away, and their actions becoming more and more aggressive. These withered skeletons became the guards of the Fortresses the Builders constructed to protect themselves from the Nether's dangers. They became nothing more than thugs.
So the Builders continued their work. They theorised that the combined biomass of multiple corpses could overcome the withering problem.
They were right. And they were so, so wrong.
They had awakened one of the primordial forces of the universe, the force of chaos and destructions. The trapped souls had been screaming out to them all along. The withered skeletons were a warning that was impossible to ignore, yet they did.
The Wither had descended upon the Ancient Builders, wanting nothing more then to spread its infection.
The Builders tried to escape, abandoning their portals into the Nether. But they were too slow, the Wither had followed them to the Overworld.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This lead to the third mistake, but I'm not going to talk about that now.
The fourth and final mistake came after the Overworld was no longer safe for the Builders. The Wither was gone, destroyed in the third mistake, but it's rot still corrupted the land. To go to the surface was suicide, to go deep underground was suicide. So the Builders clung to just below the surface. They used their magic to invert stone and tore out their eyes to construct a portal to somewhere out of the Overworld.
They took a leap of faith, and it didn't pay off. They had found a dimension in the Void between dimensions, the End of all reality. Nothing but blank islands for all eternity. But there was something... else.
Tumblr media
Another primordial force that threatened everything. Native to this place or trapped their, they did not know. But they had opened the door out and had to close it. So they purposefully disabled the way out, created a dragon to guard it should anyone try to leave. Every island for miles around the exit point was annihilated, as to separate it.
It was the ultimate sacrifice and the final mistake; sealing themselves into the End.
Over time they evolved; their skin became darker, blending into the eternal night; their eyes became larger to see in the darkness; they became taller, their limbs becoming longer to pluck the high snaking chorus fruits - the only food in this place. We've all eaten chorus, we all know how it teleports anything that consumes it. Eating just that fruit caused them to eventually teleport regardless.
And finally, these End-men had become immortal. But there was no victory, their minds had long been lost. Even when they eventually gained the ability to teleport across dimensions they held no memories of these places. They can only grab blocks to move as they did long ago, but none of them know why.
Tumblr media
When they see us they feel pain, they look us in the eyes and remember humanity. This makes them sad, which makes them angry. They cannot understand their unexplained grief so they act only in fear and self-preservation.
Tumblr media
These 2 creatures, the Wither's skeletons and the men of the End are brothers. Yet they do not know it. For both have long since lost their mind and history; one in pure aggression and obsession, and the other in hubris and insanity.

I think I should expose people to my mob player headcanons.
Basically, it’s a tangling of code, like when I try to pull out my purple skein from the yarn crate and pull out five skeins at the same time on accident. Maybe your dad keeps getting repeatedly killed by creepers? There’s a good chance you’ll be part creeper, since traces of his death are left in his code. Maybe your mom runs an industrial scale flower farm? You might be born with flowers growing out of you, since she’s got flowers threaded into her code from being around them so much.
Maybe your parent is a Warden with such a high body count that when you budded out of the mycelium you had human eyes and opposable thumbs, and you had to fucking run because there’s enough Player in your fungus to register as an Intruder. You’ve never seen the sun before.
Maybe your parent’s village was obliterated by Withers and when you screamed your first baby scream the flowers in the flowerbox blackened and died.
Builders eat Redstone because it’s on their hands and everything they touch, including their pantries. Their children eat redstone as essential nutrients and have been known to vampirically drain auto farms through sheer force of hangry.

Headcanon i've had for a while now about how minecraft hack clients could work, similar to the headcanons about how in game chat would work.
Just sort of an explanation with some examples, obviously some hacks are pretty hard to translate into a physical thing, but i tried my best. :)
Full text can also be found under read more.
"Hack Clients" are illegal modifications of a player's attire (i.e. player skin) in order to give them an unfair advantage. The visibility of a "Hack Client" modification depends on the server a player is on. On servers such as 2b2t, these modifications are obviously visible while on stricter servers, such as Hypixel, hackers will try to be more subtle, often hiding modifications underneath clothing.
Eyewear: Modified for use of visual hacks (i.e. x-ray. fullbright, esp, etc.), the easiest to hide from moderators.
Footwear: Modified for use of hacks such as Anti-Knockback, High-jump, and other similar hacks.
Mechanical Braces: Used to allow players to move with otherwise impossible reaction times, most often used for PVP. Completely illegal on most servers, players will attempt to hide them underneath clothing but often fail.
Leg brace: Used for b-hopping.
Arm brace: Used for kill-aura and aimbot.

So when bees make honey it changes taste depending on which type of flower they have been feeding on. How do you think this would work in minecraft?
I think that honey made from wither roses would be fatally poisonous to most people. Would honey made with chorus flowers have some side effects? What about does honey made with alliums give fire resistance like they do with suspicious stew?

Minecraft flower headcanons
Headcanon that the meanings of flowers in Minecraft are different from in this world. Specifically, the meanings are based on the effects of a suspicious stew that the flower forms.
Dandelions and blue orchids are for Saturation. They symbolize calm, contentment, and a general sense of happiness and well-being. Dandelions tend to be seen as spontaneous and light-hearted while blue orchids are for more serious commitment, but both of them are fine gifts to show appreciation for a friend or loved one.
Oxeye daisies are for Regeneration-- literally giving you hearts! They symbolize love, in much the same way that roses do in this world. Together with dandelions and blue orchids, they're the only flowers that only have positive meanings. Whether romantic, platonic, or familial, an oxeye daisy is the most heartfelt way to say "I love you" in Minecraft.
Lilies of the valley are for Poison. They symbolize pain, bitterness, and heartache. Giving one to someone else is like a slap in the face most of the time: a threat, a rejection, a "Go fuck yourself" that turns a whole bouquet negative. On the other hand, wearing a lily of the valley yourself is a symbol of grief and deep mourning, a pain that cuts to the core.
(While few remember this, the "valley" in "lily of the valley" doesn't represent the area where the flower grows. No, it's for The Valley Below, a dark desert of screaming souls that claw at your feet, desperately longing to be spawned again into the world.)
Poppies are for Night Vision. They symbolize watching and being watched. As such, when paired with negative flowers, they can be seen as a threat or "Watch your back"; however, they can also mean "I'm watching out for you" or even "See you tonight."
(While few remember this, the "valley" in "lily of the valley" doesn't represent the area where the flower grows. No, it's for The Valley Below, a place of screaming souls that claw at your feet, desperately longing to be spawned again into the world.)
Cornflowers are for Jump Boost. They symbolize amazement, surprise, or awe -- literally "jumping for joy". People who win tournaments or games are often given a bouquet of cornflowers in celebration. Though this isn't common, when paired with negative flowers, a cornflower can sometimes represent shock or sudden betrayal, a very sarcastic "Congratulations."
Azure bluets are for Blindness. They symbolize secrets, hiddenness, and avoidance-- a "You didn't see anything." With positive flowers, this can symbolize a secret alliance or even forbidden love, but with negative flowers, it's a taunt, calling someone ignorant or oblivious. Often, someone who wishes to trap someone else or play a prank will leave an azure bluet so that the victim will only see it right before the trap goes off.
Wither roses are for Wither. They always symbolize death, hatred, murder, and intent to kill. To give someone wither roses is a serious declaration of war. There is no positive meaning to wither roses: without exception, they are for people you absolutely despise and wish to see suffer a painful death.
Tulips are for Weakness. This is an odd case, as the different colors are often associated with different connotations; however, any tulip can technically represent any of these meanings in the right context. A white tulip is for surrender; giving it to someone else is a demand for surrender, while wearing it yourself is like carrying a white flag. A pink tulip is for codependence and means "You're my weakness!" A red tulip is a taunt, calling someone else pitiful or weak, while an orange tulip is for a non-violent challenge or invitation to compete without fighting.
Alliums are for Fire Resistance. They symbolize resistance, staying strong, and defiance even in the face of overpowering odds -- "You're going through hell, but you'll get through this." They often also represent protection and a wish for someone to stay safe. Whether planted in front of an enemy leader's house for fellow fighters to see, or given to someone who has been fighting a battle of their own, an allium says, "Never, ever, ever give up."

Piglin stuff bc im. bored and kinda sad.
-Piglins are a Netherian race of anthropomorphic boars. The term “piglin” is an Overworld name for the race, literally meaning “pig-like” or “derived from pigs”. the term was adopted by the piglins, who’s word for themselves could be translated to a similar phrase.
-Piglins are matriarchal and live in clans but the eldest son of the clan is trained as a brute, or soldier in the multi-clan bastions as a representative. “brute” is, again, an Overworld name based on the Piglim word for soldier, which is a grunt that sounds a bit like the English word “brute”. the Piglin word is actually more like “brrutk.”
-Piglin language (Grüntish) is made up of a series of grunts, oinks, and squeals. one grunt can mean many different things based on culture, context, and tone. for example, take “brrutk”. that grunt or word can translate to soldier, eldest son, diplomat, or even villain depending on how the grunt is enunciated.
-Because Piglins naturally have a warmer body temperature, about 115° F or 46° C, cold temperatures are a better indicator of illness than warmer temperatures. the zombie virus, also known as the rotting disease, is a disease that happens when Netherians are exposed to colder temperatures or are ill enough that they become cold.
-The rotting disease pandemic hit the Nether severely, wiping out fauna and flora for a long time before it was managed. Piglins, their forests, and their main sources of food (hoglins and striders) were especially affected.
-Piglins make their clothes from hoglin and strider leather. Their main source of meat is hoglins, and they usually tame striders as transportation. Hoglins are sometimes captured and placed inside of bastions to protect the area or be released in battle against enemies, but this is extremely dangerous and therefore quite rare.
-Professions within Piglin clans are loose and unspecialized, since every clan member needs to learn and act as farmers, doctors, and hunters simultaneously. Matriarchs (Kruuk), heirs, and high-ranking men in clans do the same work as the rest of the clan
-Clans are family based, but sometimes can contain as many as four or five family units. These are organized and ruled by the oldest women from each family, all working together as one democratic “council”
-LGBT identities are honored in Piglin communities. transwomen who used to be brrutks are particularly respected for their ability to become kruuks and their experience in a bastion.
-Bastions (military bases that are organized and run by multi-clan alliances) are manned by the brrutks, prisoners, and volunteers. Serving in a bastion is both an honorable thing and a punishment depending on why you are there.
-Killing a hoglin is the most honorable thing a piglin can do, and an apprentice piglin (a younger member if a clan who is training) killing their first hoglin is a cause for celebration as it marks the end of their training. Hoglets (baby hoglins) are never hunted, but they can be captured to be brought into bastions.

The Strider, a curmudgeonly yet docile creature. They are native to the nether and feed on fungus. They live in large flocks to stay safe from predators, and are highly social. They communicate through peculiar warbling, chirping and gurgling sounds, as well as using their quills. Their plump and armless body plan gives them a similar gait to a kiwi. Some subspecies of strider live in crimson forests for an ample supply of food, or have adapted for the precarious footing of the basalt deltas. They have thick eyelids to protect from the glare of their lava environment.

What if the nether is the stomach of a giant creature...
Just like Tartarus from the Greek myths, the Nether is a giant being, like a titan or something else...
The Nether is massive caverns and fire, with an impenetrable roof and oceans of lava. The netherrack is the stomach lining, and the bedrock is the stronger layer of cells. The lava is stomach acid x20.
There are giant bones in the soulsand valleys, larger creatures that were eaten before the giant stopped feasting. Ancient Debris are metals that were melted and turned into an alloy during the digestion of the wielders.
And plants can't survive in extreme heat, so fungi is the only thing that can grow there. Giant Fungi for the giant stomach. and the smaller nether fungi are the baby fungi, which is already kinda true...
And, it's home to monsters. Not many, but there are monsters!

1.21 is looking fire, but 1.22 has got to be an End update.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minecraft has always had really good lore and story-telling, but does anyone else feel like the End is just missing something?
It's to be expected, it hasn't been updated for the last 7 years and the last update added more questions than answers. I feel like it's just on the cusp of being as clear as the rest of the game.
It's a dimension that's supposed to feel off, and uncanny. Literally the only track that plays is 15 minutes of warped mash-ups of Overworld tracks. End stone is just inverted Cobblestone.. etc. But even then it's still wrong.
Tumblr media
I just have to know, Minecraft lore is built off of head canons but I'm just unable to form one that makes sense regarding the End. Endermen make sense, I believe they're warped and "evolved" humans. Eating only chorus makes them teleport, their long arms and bodies to reach the high snaking chorus plants, their larger eyes to see in perpetual darkness, etc. Their aversion to water is a wrench in that but I'm not perfect and my head canon isn't right. Endermen could have nothing to do with humans.
Shulkers and End Cities are what confounds me. Are Shulkers natural living organisms? The Dragon and Ender-men both have black skin and dark purple eyes but this thing has yellow skin and an almost magenta shell. I think they're some sort of automatons, but built by who? The ancient builders, the ones who evolved into Endermen? But the spiral staircases in the End Cities don't seem designed for humans (or maybe I just suck at climbing them) and the ceilings aren't really high enough for Endermen. Maybe Shulkers are another protector mob of their area. But protecting what? Protecting the means of personal flight maybe, but that looks nothing like the rest of the end - its literally made from the wings of the Phantoms of the Overworld.
Tumblr media
End Cities themselves do kind of make sense to me, their architecture mimics the branches of a chorus plant. But whilst chorus seems to be the only natural thing in the End, the cities very much aren't. There's no way that structure would work under normal gravity. But surely the End just has weak gravity? Nope, it's the same as the Overworld.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything in the End just feels so artificial. The central island; with Obsidian pillars punching through the whole thing, a material that can only be made using 2 fluids that don't exist in the End, topped with a crystal made partially from the tears of a creature in another dimension and some sort of Eye which we can only make by killing an Enderman and fusing it's remains with the ground up remains of another creature from said other dimension. Also, it is so far away from the rest of the End, as if someone destroyed or moved these other islands away. The Dragon itself to, she works like no other mob. People say that she's a machine which I don't agree with, her erratic behaviour is because she is the only mob of her type and hasn't been updated like ever. I don't think she's native to the End though; Endermen, the only other creature in existence that looks like her, can be hostile to her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trying to piece this together as I'm writing this is making me think of a new head canon: The End is just a melting pot of travellers who got lost and stuck. Think of something like the Void from the Loki show. I think the End was initially just a mass of floating islands with the chorus fruit, in the Void between dimensions. Then the ancient builders arrived, constructing the obsidian pillars and the bedrock portal frame. I think they found something, maybe it could be whatever made the End Cities. But regardless, something dangerous. Something that made them separate the only way out of the dimension by several kilometres of Void, that made them create a Dragon to guard said way out. Something that made them sacrifice themselves by sealing themselves into the End.
There are a few holes in this. Maybe the ancient builders did build the End Cities before/after becoming Endermen. Maybe the danger was the Dragon, but why would it guard the exit portal? And I've kind of ignored the fact that Endstone is inverted Cobblestone, maybe the whole dimension if artificial? Built by the ancient builders entirely? Or maybe the End was spawned from ancient humanities collective mind, like a sort of yin to their yang.
I would love an End update to add a few things. I don't like most popular ideas or mods for an End update, as they often stray too far from what the End is. I would like to be able to find whatever gravity-defying sentient race built the End Cities, maybe they could also be warped into Endermen like the ancient builders were - but could still have a sense of self and humanity, or maybe they're some sort of Phantom People. I would like to find this danger that caused the ancient builders to sacrifice themselves, a new huge boss at the edge of the End would be awesome. I would also like, if they made them less annoying that is, for Phantoms to spawn in the End just normally. They feed on Insomnia right? What's more insomniac then an entire dimension where it's always night and nothing can sleep?
I would also like purple chorus wood lol.
