[PHYLLIS] You’ve been broodier than usual lately. Bad week?
[PHILLIP] Remember when you joked about me drowning myself in your swimming pool?
Being your authentic self?
[PHILLIP] Trying. For all the good that’s been doing.
[PHILLIP] Also, I relapsed last week.
[PHYLLIS] Oh, Phillip, but you do know relapses are part of the process.
[PHYLLIS] I know. I’m more disappointed than anything else.
[PHILLIP] For the first time in years, I felt as if I had it in the palm of my hand. And I just squandered it; because I was having a bad day. That it. One bad day. Now I’m right back where I started.
[PHYLLIS] You can’t feel too deeply about it, dear, the world isn’t ending. There’s always tomorrow.
[PHILLIP] Not really in the mood for whatever manufactured committee-drafted feel-good bullshit you found off Facebook, Aunty.
[PHYLLIS] Well, I don’t know what you want me to say. If you want a brighter future, obviously it’s going to be in the shadow of your past. Phillip, I know first-hand how our family operates, but you can’t allow yourself to become hopeless. They’ll sink you like an anchor otherwise. I’ve seen you try and I’ve seen you happy, I know who makes you happy.
[PHILLIP] Yeah . . .
[PHYLLIS] I honestly don’t know what you’re still doing here.
[JEAN] I spoke to my mother the other day.
[PHILLIP] Oh, really?
[JEAN] Yes, really. I was all alone in a foreign country after a multi-hour temper tantrum. It seemed like a mom-worthy emergency. I told her the truth about you, too, I thought she would be upset, or at least tell me that I was clearly being taken advantage of. But she didn’t; she just sort of listened until I was all talked out.
[JEAN] I miss her. I really do. It feels like everyone just leaves for no reason. My dad was killed by a drunk driver on the 905. There one day and then gone the next. Don’t even remember him, but I thought I’d always have my mom. I guess I still do, even if . . . Look, I know I’m selfish. Mom just wants to be where she feels she belongs. Me of all people should be able to relate to that.
[PHILLIP] You’re not selfish, Jean, and I’ve been meaning to apologize. I’ve been treating you horribly. I wanted . . . growing up, my siblings and I learned there was a private side and public side. I wanted to protect you from the public side. I watched the press ruin my mother’s life from the outside in, same story with my ex-wife. I wanted things to be different this time, but I was just isolating you.
[JEAN] Phillip, I get it, like, part of me wants to be all Girl Power I-don’t-need-a-man-to-protect-me, but I don’t know what that type of exposure can do to a person, but I see the evidence in you. You never had anyone to protect you, your entire life.
[PHILLIP] When I was a boy, I was always admitted to the hospital well after midnight. I remember SUVs with blacked-out windows followed by dizzying helicopter rides over the city. My parents were terrified of the public knowing about me. Looking back, I was probably very lonely, but I told myself that the public didn’t need to know. Now, all these years later there is no such thing as private and public lies, my father lies indiscriminately, and I’ve realized that I’ve isolated myself, too. I’ve always been happier when I had someone, you know, there for me.
[PHILLIP] I want to be with you, Jean. I’m happy when I’m with you. I promise, I’ll put you above everything. Always. I like you, I like you a lot.
[JEAN] Yeah . . . and I love you, too.

I have loved reading about your recent butch and femme posts so much, so I would like to start with thanking you for them. I’m a baby dyke and for the past while I’ve been a self described butch, but where I’m at atm isn’t safe for me to be out so I haven’t had much irl experience with other lesbians. I’ve never heard the difference between a feminine lesbian and a femme put before in words! I was wondering if you had any resources (books, research, pdfs) on butch experiences? Ik you might not be the best person to ask but your blog is the first place I’ve seen it talked about ever!

when billy finally gets caught by your housemates.
notes: just something short i wanted to write for billy hehe. stand alone blurb with some reference to nsfw but nothing explicit. kind of stupid and mostly for myself <33
Billy closes the door behind himself with a soft click. You feel a bit like Pavlov’s dog when you sit up, eyes finding his shadowy figure easily despite the complete lack of light. There was no moon or stars in the sky, only rolling black clouds that came in the afternoon and threatened to ruin the entire weekend.
He stands still until you smile at him, settling back against your headboard as you watch each other.
You don’t need to talk. You know why he’s here, and he knows what he can take from you. He waits until you gesture him to come closer, and he takes uneven steps towards your bed like he’s walking on a rocking boat.
He kisses you like he loves you, and you can forget that he lives in your attic for a little while.
In the morning, you can feel Billy sleeping beside you. Opening your eyes, you can see his mess of frizzy hair against your silk pillows, a strange sight that you realize you’ve never really seen before. He’s usually long gone before you open your eyes, his side of the bed messy but cool, like he was just a ghost visiting you in the night.
You glance out your window to make sense of the time - it’s a grey and cloudy morning, and with a start, you shoot your head to look at the clock on your bedside. Finally recognizing the sound of your housemates from downstairs, you realize it’s nearly noon. It wasn’t uncommon for you to leave your alarm off on a Saturday morning, but you’ve never slept in this late, especially not with your secret visitor.
You shake Billy awake, but he pushes your arm away with a muffled sigh. He nuzzles deeper into your pillows and, feeling panicked and annoyed, you poke between his ribs. Billy squawks and smacks your arm in response, which you gasp at. You hold your arm in pain as you sit up.
“Wake up,” you hiss. “You need to go.”
Billy puts your comforter over his head and ignores you. Sighing, you can’t help but feel sorry for Billy. You know he hasn’t slept on a real bed for months now, so you couldn’t really fault him for wanting to stay put on such a gloomy morning. It doesn’t change the fact that he needs to make himself scarce, and quickly.
Apologetically, you rub where you think his arm is under the comforter.
“It’s morning, Billy. Someone’s gonna see you.”
You can hear Billy sigh as he starts to really wake up, finally understanding why you were so persistent. He sits up, letting the comforter fall off his naked torso, and rubs his eyes before looking out at the crummy weather.
“I’ll walk you to the attic,” you tell him, getting up from your bed and searching for your clothes. You can feel Billy’s eyes on you before he does the same, pulling on his jeans and sweater without wasting any more time.
He meets you at your bedroom door, and you pause a moment to fix his hair; it stands in a million different directions after what you two got up to the night before. As you comb it with your fingers, he scowls and tries to duck his head down. It doesn’t matter anyway, you’ll get him back to the attic before anyone can see him.
You leave first, looking up and down the hall before creeping towards the attic entrance by the top of the stairs. With the coast clear, you gesture him to follow and he does, his steps quieter than your own.
You’re almost there when someone suddenly runs up the stairs. You both look to each other, panicked. Billy looks between your room and the attic, but neither is close enough for him to escape to without getting caught. You share one final frenzied look at each other just as Phyllis comes face to face with the two of you. She freezes on the top landing and stares at the man.
“Morning,” you say, with a strained smile. You stand in front of Billy, who you’re sure is staring wide eyed at Phyl given her concerned expression.
“Morning,” she says slowly. “Who’s this?”
You look up at Billy like you hadn’t realized he was with you. Sure enough, his expression is haunting as he gawks at your housemate.
“Oh! This is… a friend. From the chemistry department,” you say.
“A friend,” she repeats, giving you an unimpressed look.
“We were studying,” you say.
“Uh huh.” She looks at Billy. “What’s your name?”
Billy doesn’t answer.
“He doesn’t talk much.” You wince, grabbing a hold of his arm. “He’s gotta get going. Busy day.”
“I bet,” Phyl says, watching you both try to sidestep her down the stairs. You make it to the foyer, even with Billy dragging his heels a little bit once he realizes he’ll have to go outside.
Luck isn’t on yours or Billy’s side, as Barb catches you both next, leaning against the doorway to the living room.
“So, this is the mystery man we’ve been pretending not to hear all night,” she teases, arms crossing over her chest. Billy stares at her like he stared at Phyl and you sigh.
Putting your hand on his arm to fruitlessly try to get his attention, you tell her, “He’s just leaving.”
“Why? He can stay for lunch,” she offers, but you know better than to take it as selfless kindness.
“I don’t think so,” you say, as you start to pull Billy towards the door. You take your scarf hanging from the coat rack and wrap it around his neck and then place an umbrella in his hand. He tears his gaze away from Barb for long enough to look at the umbrella with disdain.
“Sorry,” you say to him quietly. You kiss the corner of his mouth, and his eyes return to their wide surprised look. You smile at him apologetically before opening the door and throwing him out to the rain.
“Brutal,” Barb comments. Watching his shadow through the stained glass.
“He’s busy. He’s from the chemistry department,” you continue the lie.
“Oh, I bet there’s a lot of chemistry going on between the two of you,” she smirks.
Outside, Billy struggles with the umbrella, cursing every slut he’s ever seen and met.

Okay, now I’m thinking about Shadyverse; but also ships, and why do I feel like Shady!Mylene does like Phyllis from the office and gets guys to flirt with her just so she can watch Shady!Ivan beat them up? Also Shady!Nath 10000% made a portrait of Shady!Marc with the blood of someone he hated once.
Myléne/Ivan
Myléne is constantly making Ivan jealous so she can watch him beat people up
Ivan knows what she’s doing and doesn’t mind one bit. He gets to show off to Myléne and get in a few practice punches
Their dates mainly consist of going to fancy restaurants and not paying unless the staff members want to be beaten to a pulp
Marc/Nathaniel
These two are total sociopaths, so you know they have fun
Nathaniel steals the blood of other students while they’re in the school’s infirmary and uses it to paint portraits of Marc, which the latter adores
Marc often shows affection by biting Nathaniel’s arms and neck. Other times, he’ll hug him so tight until it looks like he’s about to pass out

They’ve broken just about every single PDA rule at DuPont, even the ones that haven’t been written yet
Max is always stealing something for Kim and sneaking into his dorm room late at night just to get in a few make outs before their morning make out

‘Babar’ Heir And Author Laurent De Brunhoff Dies At Age 98
“Babar” author Laurent de Brunhoff, who revived his father’s popular picture book series about an elephant-king and presided over its rise to a global, multimedia franchise, has died. He was 98.
De Brunhoff, a Paris native who moved to the U.S. in the 1980s, died Friday at his home in Key West, Florida, after being in hospice care for two weeks, according to his widow, Phyllis Rose.
De Brunhoff was the eldest of three sons born to Jean de Brunhoff and Cecile de Brunhoff, a painter. Babar was created when Cecile de Brunhoff, the namesake for the elephant’s kingdom and Babar’s wife, improvised a story for her kids.
“My mother started to tell us a story to distract us,” de Brunhoff told National Geographic in 2014. “We loved it, and the next day we ran to our father’s study, which was in the corner of the garden, to tell him about it. He was very amused and started to draw. And that was how the story of Babar was born. My mother called him Bebe elephant (French for baby). It was my father who changed the name to Babar. But the first pages of the first book, with the elephant killed by a hunter and the escape to the city, was her story.”

what actors would you want to play your characters (nick, coraline, tatiana, irene, louis, katherine, alex, philip, jean, jack, more but these were the first characters that came to mind!) in a hypothetical movie/show of your story?
I have no idea! I've never done a fan casting of characters but I do have some IRL public figures that remind me of certain characters, and I pull inspo for the characters, so I guess I'll just list them all here? So, opinions and comments are welcome, whatever. I can't put a cut because it messes with the formatting of the images, so it's a bit long!
Tatiana - Nicole Kidman, with like the curly hair and stuff, she looks JUST like her!

This week, we are featuring four publications that covered LGBT/queer news in the 1970s.
The Advocate is the oldest active LGBT magazine, and was originally founded in 1967, two years before the Stonewall Riots. This issue - vol. 4 no. 11, July 22-August 4, 1970 - was printed in the aftermath of Stonewall's one year anniversary and features articles about marches across the country. “13 Hours of Hell: Advocate writer arrested in bar, says cops beat him” by Darby Summers

My story is so incredible that, even though it has happened to me, I can scarcely believe it myself. However, I assure you, every word of it is true. It is a story so shocking and disgusting that I tremble with nausea as I look back upon it.
My body is still racked with pain and my throat is so raw and on fire that it is difficult to swallow.
It is amazing that this should happen almost before the ink was dry on the newsprint of the issue of the ADVOCATE in which I reviewed the plight of four prisoners at the hands of sadistic guards in The Cage.
It all began at 1:30 on the morning of June 25th at a straight bar, Christine’s, 2028 West 7th St. in Los Angeles. A straight friend of mine, Chuck, invited me to have a nightcap with him. Normally I don’t drink because a past bout with hepatitis makes any drinking unwise. However, to be sociable, I will take an occasional drink now and then.
I was dressed in a sharp, ‘different-looking’ pair of slacks I had just bought at Jean’s West on La Cienega. I also had on a denim jacket that was custom designed for my by Phyllis Says of Beverly Hills. There is nothing quite like it, but then, there is nothing in our laws that states we all have to dress alike.
The bartender had just handed me a screwdriver, and I was about to take my first sip when I was struck on the shoulder by a heavy object. I turned to see two police officers confronting me.
“Let’s see your identification,” they barked.

“New York City has largest turnout, longest gay march”

NEW YORK CITY – Some two to three thousand homosexuals, from cities around the East Coast gathered here on June 28th and marched from Greenwich Village to Central Park to demonstrate for “Gay Pride” and “Gay Power.”
The New York Daily News and a local radio station, WINS, carried even higher estimates of the number in the parade. The New said 10,000, WINS, 20,000.
It was called “the most important event in gay history” by the Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee and was planned and supported by a coalition of eastern homophile organizations.
Marchers traveled to New York from Boston, Philadelphia, New Haven, Washington, and as far away as Alabama and New Mexico to commemorate the first anniversary of a spontaneous demonstration by Gays which took place on June 27, 1969 following a raid on the Stonewall Inn by New York City police.
At that time patrons of the bar, located at 53 Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, were put out into the street as police took action against the bar’s management. Groups of Gays gathered and barricaded the police into the bar and then began a series of protest gatherings within the neighborhood. These led eventually to the formation of the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activist’s Alliance during the Fall and Winter.

“1200 parade in Hollywood; crowds line boulevard”
The gay community in Los Angeles made its contribution to Americana on June 28.
Over 1000 homosexuals and their friends staged, not just a protest march, but a full-blown parade down world-famous Hollywood Boulevard.
Flags and banners floated in the chill sunlight of late afternoon; a bright red sound truck blared martial music; drummers strutted; a horse pranced; clowns cavorted; “vice copes” chased screaming “fairies” with paper wings; the Metropolitan Community Church sand “Onward Christian Soldiers”; a bronzed and muscular male model flaunted a 7 ½-foot live python.
On and on it went, interspersed with over 30 open cars carrying ADVOCATE Groovy Guy contestants, the Grand Duchess of San Francisco, homophile leaders, and anyone else who wanted to be seen, and five floats, one of which depicted a huge jar of Vaseline, another a homosexual “nailed” to a cross.
Christopher Street West, they called it.
Sensation-sated Hollywood had never seen anything like it. Probably the world had never seen anything like it since the gay days of Ancient Greece.
Crowds lined both sides of the boulevard up to 10 deep along the half-mile-plus parade route and spilled down the side streets and into the marshalling area at McCadden Place and down Ivar Street where the parade was supposed to disperse.
As the last united rounded the corner at Hollywood and Ivar, people began to stream blocks after them, following the three blocks south to Sunset Boulevard, where other crowds struck out on the sidewalks to watch. Although the marchers on foot had dispersed at Selma, the cars and floats remained mostly together and identifiable as a procession in the heavy traffic of Sunset nearly back to Highland Avenue, a block west of McCadden.
15,000 to 20,000
Laconic police estimates put the number of participants in the parade at anywhere from 400 to 1500, depending on which police source you took, and the number of spectators at 4000 to 5000.
More realistic estimates put the number of spectators at 15,000 to 20,000. Parade officials, using a mechanical counter, obtained a total of 1169 participants.
The turnout appeared to catch the Los Angeles Police Department largely unprepared. Although the police had opposed the parade on the grounds that hostile spectators might turn it into a riot, they had blocked off only one side of the boulevard, as specified in the permit, and permitted traffic to proceed on the other side.
As a result, cars were trapped in the rush of spectators who surged into the street all along the parade route, despite the efforts of a few squad car units and motorcycle-mounted patrolmen to force them back to the sidewalks. Shortly after the parade started, they gave up and began diverting all traffic except the paraders off the boulevard.
No Violence
There was no violence of any kind, and police would acknowledge only three arrests, those of MCC Pastor Troy Perry, Daughters of Bilitis Los Angeles Chapter President Carole Shephard, and Kelly Weiser of HELP, who were hustled away as they began
