you know that one post like "does anyone have a graveyard in their head for old friendships" apart from you still live in your hometown, apart from every place you step is another grave with flowers popping up to smother you even though there's no bad blood you ended amicably, but no one talks anymore and as you walk new little graves pop up and trip you up and they're surrounding you until you realise they're not alarms, they're soft reminders. they're the town reminding you to try again. they're a soft blanket being draped around your shoulders and being pulled tight and cozy reminding you you can try again with friends you ended calmly with, and make peace with the ones you didn't. you can be old friends, you can meet again in a decade or so and try again. the flowers aren't strangling anymore. you can reach out and call. even just a simple message. the little graveyard in your head can stay just that, you can mourn the little moments you lost, and you can try again if you want to too

it’ll fall to pieces for trapper, because pretending that korea didn’t happen won’t prevent the time he spent there from seeping into him, knocking down the walls he built between the two realities
it’ll fall to pieces for bj because the (unchanging, pre-war dream, people exactly as he left them) home he’s idealized doesn’t exist and he’ll be going back to a story that he’ll feel powerless in
it’ll fall to pieces for both of them because time didn’t freeze, or exist in a bubble, or in some way give them reprieve, but simply continued, and they’ll forever feel out of step in some way

I can't tell if folks are exaggerating how much racism/fatphobia/hatred of addicts is in wildbow's books, if I missed a lot of it bc I was reading arcs 1-6 exhausted, or if twig's setting kind of shields it from all that
