Swaying Emotions || Open
Unable to stay cramped in that hotel with thirty other people, Finn soon found himself on the streets outside, sitting atop of the wall the other survivors had built. His feet dangled just outside of the wall—vulnerable—but even then he still felt far safer than he had since the outbreak hit. It was strange, feeling this safe outside. He was just a few feet away from death, after all. He could see the dead walking not too far from him, luckily none of the walking corpses noticed him sitting on top of the debris. The young man had never been able to observe them as closely as he could now, and it certainly didn't help him become any less terrified of them. Seeing them lurking like that, stumbling around the abandoned streets—it was almost more terrifying than seeing them attack. As he continued to watch the corpses, he began to notice smaller details about each one. Some of them had broken limbs, one of their legs would simply drag behind the other, broken arms dangling on their sides. From where he sat, he could almost see their skin decomposing—and he could certainly smell it.  What was most upsetting about watching the infected so closely was seeing their clothing. Some were dressed in suits, others wore casual clothing, and he even saw a few of them wearing hospital scrubs. All those corpses, no more than three weeks ago, were just normal human beings just like Finn. Not too long ago they were just going about their regular day, going to work, to school, and then their lives suddenly ended. Only to be brought back as mindless, flesh eating monsters.  And then it hit him. His younger sister had been the same way. That day she had gone to school, just like every other day. Things were perfectly normal. But she never made it back. Finn didn't know exactly how she turned—he didn't know if she was bit or if she turned for no reason like his father had. All Finn knew was that she did turn, and Sebastian had to kill the monster that had taken over the little girl. Ever since Finn was rescued from the school and brought back to this 'colony' the other survivors had created, he tried his best not to think about what happened to his sister. Every day he tried not to let his mind fall into those dark thoughts—but every day, he failed.  As the images of his younger sister poured into his mind, he grasped onto the Wonder Woman ribbon he carried everywhere with him. He could almost see her innocent face, smiling and laughing, pretending to be Finn's Wonder Woman and "flying" around his basement. Now, Finn even missed the moments when she unplugged his computer while he played World of Warcraft just so he would play with her. Her smiling, innocent face, however, suddenly turned into this horrendous monster—charging at Finn just like his father had done, trying to kill him, to eat him.  The image of his younger sister as one of those walkers made the young man lose his balance on the wall, nearly falling back onto the streets behind him. Grabbing onto the debris as quickly as he could to stop himself from falling, his feet hit the wall beneath them, and the sound echoed throughout the empty streets. Almost immediately, the lurking walkers outside turned their attention to him and began to walk towards the wall. Pulling his legs up on top of it to make sure they were out of reach, Finn simply stared down at the corpses now attempting to reach for him. He was glad the wall was about ten feet high, or he would have been done for.  Finn was scared, yes, but the sight of five walkers reaching up for him was far less terrifying than the image of his younger sister being one of them. Still holding the ribbon tightly in his hands, he continued to stare down at them as they groaned and bumped against each other, like feral savages attempting to reach their pray.  "Fuck you." said Finn, his voice cold. As if they could even register what he was saying.

Finn simply watched as the older man continued to drink the strong liquor in his hand, almost effortlessly. The younger man never had very good experiences with alcohol, and he could almost smell the foul scent from where he stood. Was that whiskey? Finn tried whiskey once, and he ended up puking his heart out an hour later. Not only was whiskey one of the foulest of liquor, it also reminded the younger man of his father. The man always drank before his actions. Maybe the alcohol is what made him do those things. Finn didn't know, but it made him dislike alcohol even more.  The younger man nearly cringed at the every word that came out of the other's mouth—he was actually right. Even though Finn managed to survive with Sebastian for weeks, he really didn't do much of anything. After seeing his younger sister's body, Finn hardly ever moved from her desk. He only moved to eat, or to insult Sebastian. Had Sonia and Nadia never found them, the two of them would've withered away soon enough.  Finn wasn't about to let this man know that, though, and he would continue to pretend he was just as capable of surviving as he was. Finn had reason to be as helpless as he was, his heart was still far too weak to actually survive on his own, but he wasn't about to pour his heart out to this old, drunk man. He was also doing his best to show the man just how bad his nerves were at that moment, or how he confused he was by the man's words and body language. He was taking jab after jab at Finn.. but he was smiling, and his voice sounded much calmer than it had before. Maybe this man didn't react as badly as his father always did after getting a couple of drinks in his system.
"I-I do a-agree that So-sonia a-and Nadia hel-helpe-d-d us, but Sebastian and I we-were doing ju-just fine befo-before that." he lied, they hadn't been fine at all. If he had to spend another day alone with Sebastian he probably would have killed him—or killed himself.  Listening to the man's next words, Finn's brows creased into a tight frown—so Zane was the man who died while they were out there? Finn had heard of the incident, but no one seemed to even mention the man's name. It was almost as if he didn't exist. Finn figured the man hadn't been the nicest around the place. On that subject, however, Finn remained quiet. Death was still far too fresh on his mind and heart, and even if he didn't know this Zane, he didn't want to talk about anyone else's death. "I-I might ju-just do th-that," he began to speak again—or rather struggle to speak. "be-being o-out th-there with the dead s-s-sounds a-a lot b-bet-better than getting in-insulted by an ol-old drunk i-in here." God, Finn was bad at altercations. He couldn't think of anything bad to say about this man, he hardly even knew him. All he had going for him was that he was old, and was drinking whiskey. Definitely not enough to come up with any decent responses. Though Finn was aware that even if he actually knew the man, he still wouldn't be able to speak to him like he had been speaking to Finn.  There was something about the man that made Finn incredibly nervous..but a different type of nervous. Everyone in the hotel made the young man nervous, but this man, this 'Nikola' was different. He was intimidating, yes, but at the same time slightly intriguing. It was as if the longer Finn looked at him, the less scary he appeared. But at the same time, he became more and more scared of the older man. He was confused, completely oblivious to what was really going on inside his mind.  He glanced at the empty space next to Nikolai, contemplating on simply closing the distance between the two and sitting down next to him—but he decided against it. He would keep his distance for now. What if this man was hiding a knife behind his back and would just stab him to death the moment Finn sat next to him? Nikolai did appear to be strongly against having more mouths to feed around. Maybe he wanted to get rid of Finn as soon as he could.  "F-Finn.." he responded. "N-nice to-to-to meet y-you, Ni-Nikolai." that was another lie. So far, it hadn't been very nice to meet this grumpy old drunk. But it was only courteous to say those words, right? "Y-You k-know, y-you r-really ha-have an odd-odd way of in-introdu-introducing yourself, o-old man."
The fact that he was in a rather comfortable position, reclined on one of the nearby couches, knee pulled up against his chest, arm resting atop it, with a nice tall glass of whiskey in his hand was already starting to ease his nerves a little. The warm, familiar feeling of having alcohol in his system was starting to take over as that young, obviously nervous kid that they’d brought into the colony turned around and examined his tired features.
Finn was lucky Nikolai’s first real impression of him was going to be from a drunken perspective. He took another drink of his whiskey, swallowed it contently, and gazed up at the man (who Nikolai would consider to be yet a boy) with dull blue eyes. He laughed softly. His stuttering would have been too much for him to handle had it not been for the tingly sensation of being slightly inebriated.
Tumblr media
"I’m sorry to say it, but I believe you and your male companion wouldn’t have lasted more than a few days had it not been for the lovely females that were accompanying you. I’m surprised they had enough patience to carry your weight, as they seem much more capable than you." He still spoke proper and concise despite the fact that the whiskey was finally starting to take the edge off of his nerves.
"I take it that you’re thankful we found you, but from my perspective…" he paused to take another gulp of his drink, "We had it just fine without the addition of four new people….well, three if you factor in that Zane proved himself to be one of the biggest neanderthals we had recruited into our little colony."
Despite his criticism, a smile came across Nikolai’s lips now. He stared into the almost empty glass he was holding and debated on delving further into his stash of alcohol that he’d pillaged from the gas station. “If you’re confident that you could survive on your own, there’s a gate right at the front. I won’t stop you, for it’s one less mouth to feed…or you could prove yourself and make the most of this…unfortunate situation we’ve found ourselves in.” The journalist shifted in his seat, pulling his leg closer in case this young man decided it was fit to sit down next to him for a chat.
"You can call me Nikolai, by the way."

Finn stumbled around the hotel hallways in attempts to find something to snack on. He couldn't sleep—he could hardly ever sleep since the outbreak—and he couldn't really read in the dark, so he was desperate for a different source of entertainment. Back when the world was normal, he would just eat when he was bored. He was perfectly aware that the rationing of supplies was incredibly strict, but in a hotel like this there was bound to be something hidden away, right? Or at least he hoped there would be. This little escapade to find a snack, however, was proving to be rather dangerous. He nearly fell down the stairs when he left his room. A smart person would have taken a flashlight or even a candle with them when walking around at night, but Finn was never really smart at this time of night. He usually spent his nights playing video games in his basement, not exactly walking around a dark hotel.  Finally making his way to the first floor, he decided he would go back into the hotel's kitchen and see what he might find, but the flickering light of a candle caught his attention. He thought everyone would be in their rooms sleeping by now, but there was someone else down here. It was a female in one of the lobby's couches, and he could recognize her face—but he couldn't put a name to the face. Finn had seen her with the group that rescued him and the others from the school, but now that he thought about it, he hadn't seen her since. With all the other people in the hotel, he never realized there was one girl missing.  She looked like the quiet type while they made their way back to the colony, but she also looked rather upset back then. Much like she did now. Making his way towards her, he became slightly curious as to what could have possibly upset her. Finn wasn't exactly the best at cheering people up—except for his younger sister, he was always a professional at that—but there was too much suffering in the world now to just leave a young girl upset like that.  "H-hey," he broke the silence, looking at the girl from a few feet away. Seeing most of the survivors interacting with each other had made Finn wary of most of them, and he liked to keep his distance. "I-I'm Finn, I don't think w-we've pr-properly met? You were wi-with th-the group t-tha-that found us, ri-right?" His voice was soft, and he spoke in a hushed tone.
Tumblr media
"A-are, are you al-alright?" he asked.  Talking to new people was already nerve-wracking for the young man, especially those who were potentially upset. He couldn't help but stutter.
Bonding Over Losses || Finn & Zyana
The other survivors don’t seem to be troubled by it one bit—- the greatest of their concerns appearing to be the fact that they now have more mouths to feed, that shortages of food will come quicker and that they will need to bring back supplies in greater quantities opposed to the fact that they had lost someone who had been there from the beginning. Well, at least Zane had been there from the beginning in Zyana’s eyes, having travelled to the colony together with the rest of team North; and now… Now he was gone, after the girl had practically wished for his demise.
Even though it was quite obvious that the two of them weren’t particularly fond of one another, she still didn’t want him to die—- regardless of her words, the words that she regretted now more than ever.
She hasn’t spoken to anyone since it happened, barely been able to sleep, eat, move—- in fact, this is the first time she’s even left her room. However; she doesn’t make an effort to wander far, rather, curling up against the cushions of the couch Zane had been lounging on when they had their heated argument.
Zyana wouldn’t be able to begin to explain why she’s so upset over this; even if she tried—— although, a part of her was relieved that she could still feel anything at all. At least this meant she was still human.

[Finn was almost happy that Sebastian quickly realized that his mere presence bothered him. He always made it perfectly clear that he wasn't happy with him, and it seemed that he was finally getting the hint. Or maybe he had always gotten the hint, but they were stuck with each other before, with nowhere to run off to. Now Sebastian could actually walk away and leave Finn alone, which made the younger man as happy as he could be.  Even though he didn't want to look at Sebastian for a second longer, Finn could almost hear his sister's voice in the back of his mind. He could hear her urging him to help Sebastian, to simply forgive him and do his very best to be civil with her second favorite guy on Earth.  Finn had always been like a father to Grace, and he knew Sebastian was like her second father. Finn already hated their real father, so was it really fair to hate Sebastian as well? He knew it wasn't. It wasn't fair at all, but it also wasn't easy to forgive him.  Finn knew his sister, though, and he knew she would forgive him. Wherever she was now, she probably already forgiven him.] A-actually, [he paused. He really didn't want to do this, but for Grace, he would.] M-maybe I can he-help you l-look for one.
I-I could de-definitely u-use a bit of music m-myself. I kind of have those gr-groans from th-the walkers stuck in my head..

[Aw, damn. Maybe he should have looked around before he talked. He’d just walked in to where he’d seen people—Sebastian tended to do that, to gravitate to people, because he had never really liked being alone and now was no different.
Finn—well, Finn wasn’t happy with him. And as far as Sebastian was concerned, Finn had every right to be. Sebastian had, after all, shot his sister. There had been other factors at play, such as the fact that little Grace had been attempting to kill him, but the fact remained.
Sebastian had killed her. And he would never stop feeling guilty about that.]
Well, I wasn’t following you—I promise I was just attempting to find, well, a radio.
[He offered up a sheepish, apologetic smile. Better that he leave Finn alone, he supposed. He wouldn’t want to look at his sister’s murderer either.]
Sorry. I’ll go, but actually, if you do see a radio, it’d be great if you could tell someone to tell me?

[If there was one thing Finn had grown to like about living in this hotel with so many other people, it was that he no longer had to sleep, eat, and breathe around Sebastian. Finn had always heard so much about the man from his younger sister, and he had always respected him for being his beloved sister's favorite teacher, but that was all different now. He didn't hate the man—he could never bring himself to hate someone his sister loved so much—but Finn couldn't help but be angry and bitter towards the older man.  He took his sister from him, how could Finn just simply forgive him, right? That wasn't entirely true, Finn knew he needed to forgive Sebastian, because he only did what had to be done. And if little Grace was still alive, she would stand behind Sebastian's every decision. She really loved that man. Finn wanted to feel the same way, he wanted to respect and stand behind the man just like his little sister had done but every time he saw him, every time he heard his voice, his blood would boil.  And that's exactly what his blood did the moment he heard the man's voice. Finn hadn't even noticed Sebastian was in the same room as him. He had been sitting on a nearby couch reading one of the comics he read almost every day, since he didn't have any other ones. Finn was never one to pick fights with anyone, but with Sebastian it was a different situation. He wouldn't instigate arguments, but Finn definitely wasn't against being sarcastic and obnoxious with this man. He agreed, though. Pop music would be a billion times better than hearing Sebastian's voice.] Don't you think t-that if they had a-a radio, the-they would have used it by-by now? A-also, I-I would appreciate i-it if you didn't follow me a-around th-this hotel. I-I've spent enough time around you.
Even Pop Music Is Better Than This || Open
[Most people, given the event of what seemed to be an apocalypse and a world full of people that were trying to eat you, would be depressed. Angry. Scared. And all of those, Sebastian figured, were natural responses. He was scared too. He was upset that he wasn’t going to just wake up and find that everything had gone back to normal. He was definitely not happy at, well, everything.
But right now? He was happy.
Because there was a little group of survivors that had somehow made it out alive. There was a hotel where he’d claimed a room, an actual place where he could sleep that wasn’t littered with tiny dead bodies, and people—actual people—that he could talk to. People that weren’t, uh, kind of angry with him. Not that Finn shouldn’t be angry with him, but. Well.]
So does anyone have any idea where to find a radio around here? Does someone have one? Because either we’ll manage to find a frequency that other people are broadcasting on, or we’ll find some radio station that’s still automatically playing.
And I really miss music. Even if it’s just pop music, it’s got to be better than silence, right?

[Being around so many strong personalities was becoming more and more difficult for the young man. In his entire life there was only a handful of people he was used to having around; his sister, his father, his few friends, and his computer (not that his computer was a person, but there were countless of people inside of it that were far better than the people he was currently around). Some of these people were far too violent, too loud and outspoken, and at times it was simply uncomfortable to be around them. All Finn wanted was to curl up in a corner and play World of Warcraft. Things would be so much easier if wi-fi still existed.  Tired of the loud arguments that were still happening inside the hotel, the man decided to go for a walk outside. It was odd being outside without a weapon or looking behind you for walkers every few seconds, but if there was one thing Finn appreciated was that wall this group of survivors had built. It was smart, incredibly smart. After hiding in a school full of corpses, being able to breathe some fresh air was incredible.  A slightly disappointed sigh escaped his lips when he realized he wasn't the only person outside..a female had made it out there before him. He wasn't sure if he had seen her around the hotel before, but she definitely didn't look as violent or obnoxious as the other people of the group. When she flashed a warm smile and waved at Finn, he knew she was far sweeter than the rest. That was good, if he was going to live with these people Finn needed someone he could at least chat with—even if he wasn't a huge fan of people in general. ]
[A small smile curled up his lips and he waved at the woman as he began walking towards her, nodding at her question.] It actually is a very nice day.. You could almost forget that the world just went to shit, huh? [He laughed nervously.] I don't think we've met yet. My name is Finn..and yours?
Walkaround || Open
[There are few things that feel worse than that gut-wrenching sensation of being in the way. Some days, Yesenia manages to keep this to a minimum. Today, though-today is far from that. Ever since she woke up, it seemed like she was simply crossing everyone at the wrong time. No words could help; it wasn’t like many had taken to appreciating the words she had to offer, anyhow.
At least the others have yet to beat the very smile off her face.
Now, she is just getting off some laundry duties, and is taking a walk along the perimeter, and is lost in thought until she spots someone nearby. Her smile broadens slightly in greeting, and she gives a small wave of one hand, hoping she won’t scare the person off. But if it happens…it happens.]
Seems like a nice day today, doesn’t it?

[It had only been a few hours since Finn and his small group were found and "rescued" by the other survivors, and he had to admit, it was weird being around so many people again. It almost felt like he hadn't been around people other than Sebastian, Sonia and Nadia in months, even if it hadn't been more than two or three weeks.  The people in this group were very..interesting, however, and it almost impressed him how they could all live together in this small hotel without killing one another. Some looked like they were ready to snap at any moment. Finn was never a fan of altercations (for many reasons), so the moment he stepped foot in that hotel and saw the survivors interactions..his nerves were at an all-time high. He was terrified, to be quite honest. He was standing in front of the table where they gathered all of their supplies—where Sebastian and himself placed what little supplies they had left in attempt to contribute to their new group—when he heard a very snarky comment coming from behind him. Finn was always bad at recognizing voices, so he quickly turned around to see who it was.]
Tumblr media
[It was that old man. Finn couldn't remember if he had ever properly introduced himself, but he remembered him from the group of survivors that found him and Sebastian at the school. He seemed to be the quiet type, which Finn had liked, but things seemed a bit different now. He looked annoyed by Finn's very presence in the room, and this made him even more nervous than he already was. If that was even possible.  This man also reminded Finn of his father, and that was never an entirely good thing. The appearance was similar, but Finn could only hope his personality wasn't like his father's. He swallowed, pushing all thoughts about the older man's pleasing physical appearance out of his head and struggled to find words. He was nervous and scared of all these survivors, and more than anything he didn't want to look like a weak link—even if he was fully aware that he was probably the weakest link in the group now. He couldn't let this man see him sweat.] I-I do apologize th-that your nerves are in b-bad condition, si-sir, but I'll have you know that I-I a-am no-not an idiot. I was perfectly capable of surviving w-wi-without your help until n-now, so d-don't-t think I'll be dep-depending on y-yo-you for much.  [He probably sounded more like an idiot the more he spoke, but the man's incredibly serious and judgmental attitude couldn't have made Finn more nervous.]
Lose one idiot, gain four.  As if my nerves couldn’t get any worse.

I'm Finally Numb, Don't Rescue Me || Open
It had been nearly two, or maybe three weeks since the world went to shit. Finn had found himself trapped in his little sister's school, with his sister's teacher. That definitely was not the place he thought he would be when the zombie apocalypse hit. He always knew something like this would happen eventually, but he also thought he would be in his basement, with endless supplies of his favorite snacks, wifi, his computer, comics, movies and some swords for protection. He would go out into the world with his sword and shield at hand only to travel to his friends' houses for weekly WoW night, and they wouldn't be bothered by annoying parents or having to go to work. That would've been heaven for a geek like himself, wouldn't it? But no, there was no heaven on Earth anymore, it was all hell. And hell was worse than he ever thought. It was even worse than Hellfire Peninsula in Outlands. He always hated Outlands, but right now he would give just about anything to be able to play again, even if it means he would be stuck in Outlands forever. First thing he would give away would be the goddamn idiot that killed his sister. No, Sebastian wasn't an idiot. He did what he had to do, and Finn couldn't even imagine what it must have been like to have twenty children die right in front of him, only to turn and charge at him like bloodthirsty creatures. But even if Finn understood why Sebastian had to kill his younger sister, the pain of losing the only real family he had was far too great. The wounds were still fresh, and everything around the classroom reminded the young man of his younger sister.  Finn had buried his sister in the school's playground days ago, but he kept the ribbon she had been wearing that day. A ribbon that he bought her. It was a Wonder Woman ribbon, he had always told his little sister that she would become Wonder Woman when she grew up, and she had treasured that ribbon ever since.  He was sitting on the desk that belonged to his younger sister, Sebastian had told him, simply staring down at the string of fabric. It had become a sort of daily routine, just sitting there, thinking of his sister and everything she would never get to do. She would never get a chance to become Wonder Woman, although she had always been Wonder Woman to Finn. Or rather, Wonder Girl.  Finn could see the sun rising, but he had completely lost track of what day of the week it was, they were all running together by now. He could see Sebastian on the other side of the room, and Nadia and Sonia were probably sleeping in the other classroom they had taken over. Everything was dead silent, except for the occasional groaning from the dead outside. Those noises didn't even bother Finn anymore, he had become far too numb about everything to even pay attention.  His thoughts were interrupted, however, when an unusual noise came from the entrance of the school. He could hear the front door creaking open, and the chains they used to lock it falling onto the floor. The young man immediately jumped up on his seat and looked back at Sebastian, both fear and shock in his eyes.  "Did you hear that?" he asked in a hushed tone. Pushing himself up off the chair and walking toward the door of the classroom, he looked back at Sebastian. "We made sure the dead can't get in here, right? They can't open doors, right?"  Shortly after he heard the doors open, the sound of footsteps followed. They were unlike the footsteps of the walking dead, though, they were more.. stable. It wasn't the sound of feet dragging and shuffling around, they were the footsteps you would have heard everywhere three weeks ago before the dead was walking everywhere. Were there other survivors? After weeks of no signs of other living humans, Finn was beginning to think the four of them were the only humans left in New York.  Slowly opening the door leading to their classroom, Finn peeked his head out and looked down the empty hallway. He held a kitchen knife in his hand, prepared to stab any walkers that might have found their way into their safe shelter. He hoped police or military soldiers were coming to rescue them, but he knew nothing like that would happen. In a situation like the one the United States was experiencing, the government would be the first thing to go. Finn was fully aware there would be no search parties looking for survivors. Whoever was coming into their shelters, let it be living or dead, could only be something wanting to hurt them, not help.
