hoo boy.... rewatching asoue netflix and the romani stereotypes with madame lulu are even worse than i remember. not to say that the books were totally innocent of this--the entire carnival fortune teller archetype is inherently racist to some extent--but the fake buckteeth and the exaggerated sexuality (which is also way out of character for olivia) just takes it to a whole new level

#asoue #i would be a lot less forgiving if she had more screen time #the only non-racist way i can think to handle her character is to give her an old-timey spiritualist vibe #like with a victorian/edwardian outfit and a ouji board and table tipping and whatnot #but even that's not ideal since spiritualism is technically still a religion that people believe in #maybe olivia deserved to get eaten by the lions for doing brownface /hj

heres my attempt, idk how you all get yours looking so nice and aesthetic ToT

My story inspo very much largely came from Makai Ouji and even inspired both Archer and Victor and their relationship (if you know, you know) I also got a good bit of inspo from a fanfic I read once that also had premise of witch outcast summoning a demon but I can't find it. There's likely a dash of inspo from Black Butler as well; I think it's safe to say that any media I have consumed with a summoned demon is inspo in some form lol

funnily though, I first made Victor in game and then was like "what if demon roommate" and it all just snowballed from there

thinking about how the main things maya says is needed to perform the kurain channeling technique is spiritual power & the ability to complete rigorous training & the fact that phoenix wright has heard the voice of his dead mentor several times, seemingly without the assistance of any feys & not only canonically has completed training with maya (after the events of aa3), but has survived eating a necklace with traces of poison, falling off a burning bridge & into a notoriously dangerous river, & was seemingly fine after being hit in the head with the shichishito, something that caused ron delite (who testified he would have been hurt much worse if he hadn’t worn his mask) to pass out.
