Arafinweans as horses
Tumblr media
(Last one of the bunch. Hope you like it and I’m always down more for horse silmarillion)
Requested by @a-contemplation-upon-flowers
Warnings; none
---------------------------------------------------------------------
-You looked around for a job. Your old job didn’t make the cut, and you couldn't balance your life and hobbies around it.
-Your parents then contacted one of their friends, who offered a job at a stable, which made you excited.
-You loved horses, so you accepted the offer.
-Your parents helped you to move to a cheap place, then took you to the stable.
-The stable was beautiful, and you were in awe as you marveled at the horses in their large dens and grounds where they ran free without a care.
-The stable of Lothlorien.
-You’re welcomed by the stable owner, Irmo, who was enthusiastic to show you around and what you’re going to do as your job.
-Your job was to care for a batch of horses since their owners were on vacation. Or too busy to stop by the stable.
-You didn’t think much of it and took it as an acceptable challenge.
-When Irmo took you to see the horses, that’s when you swooned.
-There were five beautiful white horses with manes like gold.
-You have never seen anything like them before, and it felt like a fever dream you once had as a child.
-Irmo introduced them as Finrod, Orodreth, Aegnor, Angrod, and the only mare, Galadriel.
-They were all siblings and foals to the infamous dressage horses, Finarfin and Earwen.
-You found that surprising since you remember Finarfin was related to the infamous racehorses Feanor and Fingolfin, and he was a dressage horse. You thought all horses from that family tree were race horses.
-Irmo helped you to learn your daily task, and you settled for your new job.
-You felt ready and thought it wasn’t going to be too difficult.
-Oh, how wrong you were because you didn’t think with four horses and four different personalities, and it was a wild roller coaster.
Finrod
-He was a beautiful white horse with a mane that shone gold with sunlight.
-He was the oldest of the bunch and the tallest.
-He had a friendly personality and was very sweet to you when you two first met.
-You pretty much fell in love with him and his sweet nature.
-You were quite small compared to him, and you felt nervous the first time you took him out of the stall by yourself.
-However, he managed to control his excitement when he sensed you were nervous and nicely walked behind like an oversized puppy.
-Cleaning and washing him was troublesome since he was very tall, but you managed to make it work by standing on a tool, and Finrod stayed put.
-Finrod was a dressage horse, like his father, and was considered one of the fairest stallions in the world.
-When you first got on his back. You were nervous because you sat so high from the ground.
-Finrod being a gentle giant, stood calm when he sensed your fright. He went peacefully, so you got used to him quickly.
-And you loved the experience.
-Finrod is quite playful when you let him free into his den. He would have a horse version of zoomies, jump around and roll around on the ground.
-You thought you would have to wash him after those sessions, but surprisingly he remained clean and good-looking.
-His coat was merely covered in dust, and after a few pats, he was clean as new. It was like there was not a force in the world that would allow him to get dirty.
-Finrod is helpful when you care for his siblings. He was a gentle giant, but when he saw his siblings giving you trouble, he would loudly neigh, and his siblings would behave around you.
-You make sure to reward him with treats whenever he does that.
-Finrod was a well-behaved horse and barely did anything to give you a headache, but even with the brightest come downsides.
-He has a terrible habit of trying to make friends with every living creature he sees.
-He gets along with every horse in the stable but sometimes tries to befriend mean farm animals from the neighbor and wild animals from a nearby forest.
-He once got kidnapped by a bunch of burglars. It was easy because he was friendly with them and willingly went along into the trailer.
-His kidnapping caused a lot of panic, but the stallion came back trotting the other day excitedly as if nothing happened.
-He traveled a lot with his owner, so he knew how to come back.
-He would feel guilty and stand in the shame corner for the longest time when he gets scolded.
-Most likely did nothing serious, so you gave him pats and treats, and he was all good.
-You enjoy spending time with him and sometimes run along with him in the dens, then sometimes you just chill on the grass, enjoying the sun.
+100/10 horse. He is a sweetheart, friendly, and the least troublesome stallion. You enjoy being with him and he makes your days a lot brighter like his golden mane.
Orodreth
-Orodreth was another white horse, but his mane shone more with silver than gold.
-He was a bit timid when you first met, but he slowly warmed up to you when you two spent time, and you showed him patience.
-He was another sweetheart, but because of his shy nature, he can get easily distracted and get scared even by the tiniest noises.
-You have more than twice fallen from his back. The experience was unpleasant, and you can never predict when he jumps by another sound.
-He would feel guilty when you fall from his back and wait beside you till you get up.
-He doesn’t mean anything foul, and you could not hate him for it. The world is a scary place.
-He hates baths because he didn't like when the water gets less warm, and he has to wait a while till his coat dries up.
-He would whine and then shake himself up, getting you wet.
-Orodreth was a jumper and a good one of that. He would hyper-fixate and focus on jumping with precision and grace.
-He was easy to ride since he was a bit smaller than Finrod, but he does send you flying higher than his older brother because he got startled by even the tiniest noise.
-You know he does not mean any foul about it, but you kinda wish he would be a bit braver when listening to the cricketing sounds of a grasshopper.
-His hate for his bath has caused him to be disgusted with touching any muddy, and he gets more clumsy too.
-One time, you both were trying to get across a muddy puddle. Orodreth tried to avoid touching it with his hooves, but then he slipped, and you both fell.
-You broke your knee thanks to his weight.
-Orodreth felt really bad about it since you couldn't come to the stable for the longest time, but after you recovered, you made sure to visit him and give him pats, assuring him he was forgiven.
-Some people don't like mud.
9/10 He’s a sweetheart and doesn’t cause too much trouble. However, you receive more bruises when falling from his back thanks to his timid nature and dislike of mud and water.
Aegnor
-Aegnor was another majestic white horse, his mane was also gold like Finrods, but he had a bit of golden color in his white coat.
-He was a friendly stallion but sometimes gave you the attitude.
-He likes to appear high and mighty but luckily did not decide to make your life difficult.
-He was easy to clean, and most of the time, he spent his time with Angrod in the dens.
-Aegnor was a racehorse like his father, and you experienced that firsthand when you took him for a ride with Angrod’s rider.
-It was scary but awesome.
-He was an arrogant prick sometimes, but then you discovered there was romance going on with him and a mare.
-Aegnor had a growing crush on a dark bay-colored mare named Andreth, who resided on the opposite side of the stable.
-You almost did not recognize him because around Andreth. He turned into a hopeless romantic.
-But you enjoyed watching the drama and how nervous he gets around her.
-But it was also painful to watch, so you decided to be a wingman for a horse.
-You agreed on the date with Andreth’s owner, who agreed enthusiastically, and you both brought the horses into the same den.
-Aegnor was clueless till you told him you arranged a date for him and freed him into the den with Anreth.
-The confrontation went better than expected, and Aegnor had completely; shut down.
-You enjoyed watching the prideful stallion become a shy mess and almost flee, but they hung around, and all was good.
-He tripped on his foot and fell into the mud, causing mud to decorate his golden coat, and you and Andreth’s owner laughed.
-You have never seen a horse so embarrassed.
-Let’s just say, Aegnor was not happy with you at the end of the day.
-He gave you “I hate you,” looks and was constantly whisking his tail into your face and messing things up to make it harder for you.
-You did not even mind because it was worth it, and you were sure you just got him together with his crush. So, he will thank you later.
10/10 He’s a nice horse. Even though; he’s sometimes a prick. The bonus point was for the drama with Andreth.
Angrod
-Angrod looked quite similar to Aegnor, except he was a bit smaller and had a bulkier figure.
-He is a bit indifferent toward you, but you two get along, and he was not the most troublesome horse around.
-He spends most of his time with Aegnor in the den, following his brother around and peacefully eating grass.
-Angrod's just chilling most of the time.
-He was a cross-country jumper, and it's fun going on rides with Aegnors owner through the forest and race.
-You even win most of the time.
-Aegnor was a racehorse, but Angrod was better when being in his field.
-Angrod loves baths. But he has a bad habit of rolling on the ground right after you wash him, so you always need to do it again.
-You are not certain if it was on purpose or if he just has an itchy back after every bath session.
9/10. Angrod is a nice and friendly horse. He's very chill about everything and does not cause you any trouble. You do not like washing him twice a day.
Galadriel
-The only mare of the bunch. A beautiful white horse with a golden mane like Finrod, but there was a sense of majesty when you stood around her.
-Your thoughts, she was going to be easy to handle since she was well-behaved and all, but to your surprise. She was the one who gave the most attitude.
-She had that sense of superiority like Aegnor, but she had the power to make you scared and not try her patience.
-It was successful because you treated her like royalty and avoided anything that might piss her off.
-You work hard to maintain her mane and coat and that she did not have the wrong food before feeding her.
-You were scared of her, but after some time, though. She was pretty friendly and sweet toward you.
-She still stands mighty and cold toward others like it was her business to hold a frightening reputation.
-You still try to avoid annoying her because some minor inconveniences can make her moody and whisk her tail into your face.
-You were scared to ride her once, but she was pretty calm and went peacefully to help you get comfortable with her.
-She was another dressage horse and considered the best right after Finrod.
-She likes to listen to music and has a picky library of choices on what she wants to hear during the riding session.
-You like riding her when you want time to think and complain about life a little. You did not mean to make it into a habit, but Galadriel did not seem to mind.
-She sometimes gave comforting nuzzle rubs to make you feel better.
-Galadriel was usually calm, but one time when a pretty arrogant brat was assigned to ride her for a class, the kid brought a crop and rode like a hooligan, annoying the white mare.
-It was the first time you saw her pissed off and bucking the kid off her back.
-The kid shed crocodile tears, and Galadriel felt no shame. She merely snorted and trotted off.
-You made a mental note to never bring a crop when its time to ride her.
8/10. Honestly, you are still kinda scared of Galadriel. She can be sweet and less troublesome, but her mood can change quickly, and you rather not test her patience. Also, she has a bad habit of staring which makes you feel threatened.

Headcanon Crafts for the House of Finarfin
Earwen: a sailor. Yes, I know, the Teleri are the sea elves, but while most of them can manage in a rowboat, only a few are true sailors; able to navigate the Teleri's finest ships, even in rocky bays or stormy waves. And Earwen was the best of the best. She was particularly fond of venturing out where no one had before, seeing everything there was to see on the ocean, though she always turned back to Valinor eventually.
Finrod: a bard. While Maglor's focus was always on the oral history of the Quendi, Finrod preferred to learn folktales and lays, which were often preformed more casually and retold with somewhat improvised lyrics on the fly. By the time of his death, he knew more myths and legends (elvish, mannish, and dwarfish) than anyone else, though most of it remained unwritten and died with him.
Angrod: a spinner. Well, he didn't just spin wool into thread– though he did keep a few sheep, and was very fond of them. He spun thread and yarn from various materials, and then hand made dye to turn it various colors. He valued his work for its rich hues and remarkable resistance to fraying. He was basically the only person whose thread was high quality enough for Caranthir; the two of them really bonded over fiber work.
Aegnor: a dancer; more in-line with traditional Vanyar work than most Noldor crafts. He had the strength and precision for the most complex dances, though he was sometimes a bit awkward when it came to dancing with a partner. Some speculated that he would swear his service to Nessa, as one of the few dancers skilled enough for a place in her halls, but he never did. He always felt there was more for him in life than endless routine.
Orodreth: a gardener. Look, a garden is an amazing work because it's always growing and changing, and it's made in collaboration with nature. Orodreth loved that sense connection with the world around him, and tried to make garden that looked more natural and weren't bound to beds or boxes. His favorite flowers were always tulips. Though it was underground, Nargothrond still had beautiful gardens thanks to some creativity on his part.
Galadriel: a baker, like Finarfin. As a child, she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps and make something that everyone would be able to enjoy; she learned a lot of her craft directly from him. Aredhel would often bring her fresh ingredients from the Valinorian woods. After going to Middle-Earth, she set her craft aside because she had no use for fancy craft work when she had to deal with fighting hordes of orcs and trying to deal with Sindar-Noldor political relationships. Also Finarfin and Aredhel weren't around anyone. She came back to it in the Second Age, and was able to find peace and happiness in her craft once again, although she never lost any of her warrior's skill.
Bonus! Although he wasn't aware of it, Finrod actually managed to make his way into legends and folktales throughout the peoples of Middle-Earth. Though his story was changed over time, he's always remembered as a faithful friend and a ray of light in dark times– and as having a rather impressive amount of fancy jewelry. He learns this all in Valinor, from his conversations with another famous keeper of tales: Bilbo Baggins.

On the assumption that there were close relations between Balar and the Havens of Sirion, thinking about the implications of the leading Gil-gaDad theories for the political and personal dynamics surrounding the sack of Sirion.
Gil-galad Fingonion: Maedhros leads (?) an attack against a settlement allied with (?), possibly under the protection of (?), the friend (?) he "got killed" (ish) in the Nirnaeth. Imagine those ships hastening from Balar being commanded by Fingon's son. (And if he's Gil-galad Russingonion? Well, now those ships are being commanded by Maedhros' son.) And whether or not Maedhros/anyone knows he's Fingon's son, the personal drama is still insane.
Gil-galad Orodrethion: This one I have an existing headcanon about, which is that the Feanorians (esp. their followers, whether or not the sons feel this way is largely irrelevant) don't acknowledge the claim to kingship by an heir of Finarfin's line. Based on their attitude towards the Arafinweans in canon (even if Maedhros and Maglor seem a little better about it), I don't think they'd feel much personal connection to this grandson of Angrod they've probably never met. I think the drama here is far less personal on both sides. In fact, there might be open political animosity. Still very high drama.
As I've posted about before, Gil-galad and Cirdan "hastening to the aid" of the Sirionites was an editorial insertion to the published Silm. I'm fairly convinced that Tolkien would have made the same decision about this as his son (where else would he be? what kind of guy would he be if he didn't try to help?) but there is So Much I want to know about how it changes the story. And of course Gil-galad's parentage has to be folded into the whole issue.
How would the dynamics change with your favourite (or crackiest) Gil-galad parentage theory?

Hello! So it’s super fun when Gil-Galad is revealed to be nobody's son, but gets adopted anyway, yeah?
But Consider: Gil-Galad is reembodied and is fully ready to accept that the gig is up, unfortunately, all his would-be fathers are sonless and won’t let him leave the family.
Look, Fingon loves his bestfriend/husband/cousin/person’s peredhel child like a child of his own flesh, but he wasn’t there for the raising! Elrond already has a wife and kids! The kid is already grown up!
However, Gil-Galad has no spouse or children, nor even an official lordship of his own. And if Gil-Galad was calling him dad already in Beleriand/M-E then clearly he can’t let this opportunity to Be A Dad leave just like that! Gil-Galad wants to leave quietly but Fingon is holding onto Parenthood with both hands in a death-grip. Fingon will not let Gil leave quietly. (The situation escalates when Maedhros is Haggled released from Mandos/Void Time Out)
Meanwhile, Orodreth loves his daughter, but Finduilas is a grown elf-lady with a maybe-fiancé and several Adult Royal Things Going On. Finduilas is all grown up and Orodreth is feeling that Empty Nest Syndrome that the bird books warned him about. however, Gil-Galad is parentless, and already claimed Orodreth as a maybe-dad, so clearly the boy needs some guidance, right? Plus his Wife (an Avari woman who sincerely loves her wet cat husband) could use somebody to take on hunting trips. Finduilas is too busy nowadays but clearly, Gil-Galad could use the Motherly Bonding Time. (Orodreth’s wife is a menace and she would’a gotten more kids if it weren’t for Finrod dying spontaneously damnit)
Anyway, this ends up with Gil-Galad in a weird four-way co-parenting situation where he has to spend equal time with Fingon, Maedhros, Orodreth, and Orodreth’s wife.
The other solution is for Fingon and Orodreth to fist-fight again and nobody wants that. (Not even Fingon. Turns out; Orodreth bites and has the jaw strength of a damn crocodile).
It’s a damn reverse-con. Gil-Galad claimed them as parents and now they’re claiming him back as their child.

Of firstborns and births.
Fëanor : How did you feel when your first child came into the world?
Maedhros : There were many feelings at the same time. Joy, fear, panic, gratitude, it was too much to process, Artanáro left me speechless since I saw him for the first time, he was too small, more than we expected, however, he was the most beautiful jewel I have ever seen, under Findekáno's words, the baby seemed to be a star itself; and I couldn't agree more with that. While I had seen many babies born up to that point, Ereinion was the most perfect of them all. I felt I could duel Morgoth for him alone, he was the piece I needed to feel alive again.
Maglor : I wanted to cry, correction, I cried too much when I saw it; I was really scared about it. Daeron had not had a really nice pregnancy, and we were afraid that the delivery would be similar. However, thanks to Queen Melian, everything went well. When I finally carried him in my arms, my heart seemed to burst, I am not able to explain how I felt, only that my Lindir was more harmonious than any melody ever played, much more beautiful than Ainulindalë itself. He is magnificence itself, so majestic that many would be humbled to stand in his presence.
Celegorm : Eluréd and Elurín were a blessing from Oromë and Vána, a very unexpected one. I'm not going to lie, when I saw Eluréd it really bothered me not to think that he was the most beautiful baby in middle earth, you know those parents who say their babies were pure beauty, well, I was not one of those, Eluréd and Elurín were not exactly graceful when they were born, they were covered with blood and amniotic fluid, but they were very healthy, that was the important thing, although I can't say I didn't feel joy, they gave me back a part of me that I considered lost.
Caranthir : I must confess that after holding Artaresto already cleaned up, I couldn't help but curse Angaráto's genes. However, I can't deny that the little blonde hair on his little head was lovely. It was really unexpected to see that his cheeks had a tone similar to sweet apples, that made me fall in love with him, I longed too much to put my fingers on his face, I couldn't believe that he was really mine, he was too ethereal, although he was also a fussy baby, a true prince of the Noldor, if you ask me; it was inevitable not to feel proud of him, his mere existence did that.
Curufin : The phrase "You never love anything in the world as much as you love your first child" made sense when Telperinquar was in my arms; although in my heart I vowed to protect him from the moment I began to nourish his Fëa with my own. I know what I felt, a deep love for him, as well as a need for devotion. He was my greatest creation, nothing else I did in the forge compares to him, and even the Silmarils are nothing compared to my son, as I held him, I was aware that I would do the impossible to preserve his innocence, I was sure that he would bring out the best and the worst in me.
°•°
Headcanon's extra :
Daeron is an offspring of Thingol and Melian. Consequently, she has Maia ancestry and thanks to this she was able to father a child with Maglor. (In my AU she is a trans elleth.)
Vána and Oromë blessed Celegorm so that he could have the twins; Dior was puzzled.
Caranthir is trans and Curufin is trans non-binary.
Fëanorian Orodreth!
The other parents of the children :
– Findekáno.
– Daeron.
– Dior.
– Angaráto.
– Findaráto (¿?)

In one version of the legendarium, Fingon had a wife and two children while in beleriand, a daughter Erien and a son Finbor.
Looking up the translation of their names, I must admit I always found the name Erien a rather odd one. Mostly because one of its translations is "Lonely maiden". Why would Fingon name his child "Lonely maiden"?
But then I looked back at it and realized that maybe it wasn't supposed to be translated as lonely, but connect to the name of Eru, referring rather to divinity and holiness than loneliness and solitude. Also, Fingon's mother's name is Anaire which means "holiness". Does this mean I headcanon that Fingon named his daughter Erien as a kind of tribute to his mother? Yes. Yes I do.

I don't want to downplay Turgon's relationship with any of his siblings when I say this, but you know what would really appeal to me? Just like (I headcanon that) Fingolfin's children see Finarfin as a second father, Idril has that relationship with Finrod, out of sheer amount of time spent together because Turgon and Finrod are nearly inseparable throughout Idril's formative years
Does canon back me up? Hell no. Do I care? Not particularly

I have many ideas about Finduilas and Gwindor but the one I’m most attached to is Orodreth sending them down to Nargothrond early on in the siege of Minas Tirith leading a group of civilians (refugees, now) and it’s the first time they’ve had to interact this much and there are literal hundreds of lives depending on their ability to get along.
Gwindor decides that he likes Finduilas bc she is strong and kind and thoughtful and doesn’t take nonsense from anyone.
Finduilas decides she likes Gwindor because he is responsible and dependable and good and also listens to all her advice (which is always a good call in her book)

headcanons about Orodreth in Lambengolmo
I pull an owl on a globe because of a single quote in “The Shibboleth of Fëanor“: Nor were the 'loremasters' a separate guild of gentle scribes, soon burned by the Orks of Angband upon pyres of books. They were mostly even as Fëanor, the greatest, kings, princes and warriors, such as the valiant captains of Gondolin, or Finrod of Nargothrond and Rodothir [> Arothir] his kinsman and steward.  Orodreth began to get carried away with languages when young Finrod brought him with him to Feanor because he studied there himself, and Orodreth was hung up on him as a nanny and had to be carried everywhere with him. Feanor gave him small exercises at the same time so that he could learn to write. And Orodreth did very well - he learned to read quickly, so Feanor became more interesting to study with him (Finwe asked him to help his nephews in general, but it was not productive with everyone). Orodreth had some problems in order for Feanor to express his opinion about what he read, but his memory and ability to analyze and logical chains were good. Over time, this has not changed, Orodreth has more ability to analysis and exploration than to create something. Both children (Finrod and Orodreth) we grew up in several language environments and therefore it is easier to deal with them. True, Orodreth liked it better when Maglor was left with them, and not Feanor or Curufin himself. Or go with his father to Alqualonde and help with the records of his studies of telerin. When the feanorians were all busy with something else, and Finrod and Arafinwe were leaving (intentionally running away) then Feanor caught Orodreth as his assistant to write down everything for him (because the handwriting is beautiful) and to be an errand boy brought-give-you can go read yourself. This was a certain indicator because Feanor preferred to do everything himself. And if he wants someone's company then this elda is worth something in his understanding (if he was not forced). Orodreth didn't really like it all because Feanor barked at him for being slow and dropping the most valuable records but it was also interesting because Feanor talks beautifully and not only about languages. In Beleriand he first continued Feanor's work on the study of northern and western Sindarin then helped Finrod in recording and structuring his knowledge of Taliska. But very quickly there was no time for languages. He only returned to this for a while when Curufin began to live in Nargothrond. When Feanor and Rumil were barking about something, Orodreth preferred to pretend to be an inanimate object and screw away until Feanor asked "What do you think?!" waiting for confirmation of his words. He did not attend meetings of scientists so often, rather he went there with his father if he took him. And in general, Orodreth liked to study what he had already created more than to look for something himself. But Feanor forced him to think and study on his own, without giving him the "keys" to his tasks, then in Beleriand, when studying and mastering Sindarin, Khuzdul (although very little and mostly only for the five years that Curufin lived with them) and Taliska, it helped a lot. Orodreth remembered Curufin well from the way he was in Valinor and how he followed his father with a tail, so a huge dissonance happened in Flight of the Noldor and Beleriand. In general, they are almost the same age as Curvo but at the same time they are complete opposites except for their passion for languages and art. If Curufin is more inclined to create something tangible, then Orodreth likes intangible art. That's because Orodreth read a lot of books in his youth, he has too idealistic ideas about the world. Ideal love, friendship, family and all these ideals collapse at one moment of the Kinslaying at Alqualondë and everything is how to live, he has no instructions on what to do next, this has not yet been invented.  He liked literature and all sorts of legends, folk art more than scientific research, although he absorbed them with interest. Feanor found an approach to him, giving assignments on his favorite books, etc., although he grumbled that others did not show off. When I went with my dad, I collected Teleri legends and songs (как Шурик xD), he liked them more: mundane and about the sea, more interesting are the sublime odes and versifications from Vanyar or novels about love and experiments with style from the Noldor. Orodreth tried to write poetry, but was torn to pieces by the scientists of the school, and then he heard Maglor's poems and decided that it was not his and never wrote again (only for his wife). He himself quickly lost interest in this, although his Vanyar relatives loved poetry. The further time went on, the more Orodreth and Finrod and Arafinwe moved away from Feanor who wanted to do everything himself and he did everything perfectly and in general "I taught you everything that you still want", but not that they were not satisfied with it. Especially Finrod, who has seven Fridays a week but Orodreth was lonely at first but then he began to hang out with his father more, spending more time in Alqualonde than in Tirion Orodreth tried to study Valarin through his Vanyar relatives, but he quickly got bored doing it alone, and because Feanor almost did not leave his records about Valarin, he had nothing to rely on, as he was used to. If he studied the language of the northern and eastern Sindars, then his wife, from a noble Sindar family and educated, could well help him in this.

Since you voted Gil-galad as your favourite ace elf headcanon, here's ace Gil-galad for Ace Week!
Tumblr media
I have been putting off on actually settling for a design for him because there's no good way to reconcile my headcanons and still keep his parentage open to interpretation. This design lands him quite squarely in the "son of Fingon" case, though I have not done a proper design for either Orodreth or Finduilas (only a sketch) so I could adapt...
The four and six pointed stars are inspired by Tolkien's design of his heraldic device, though it's on purple here instead of blue in honour of the ace flag.

Now I am really really curious and want to know more about your theory of C&C and M&M not being close anymore in Beleriand and why you don't buy their super duper close relationship. I noticed that as well as the fact that C&C are the feanorians often linked not just to Aredhel but to the three Arafinweans, especially Orodreth and Angrod who in the many versions are actually close to C&C which honestly is pretty interesting and such cool thing.
oooh yeah sure, I'll talk about this! This is more contrarian headcanon-not-contradicted-by-canon than anything I came to organically, but it's now become my preferred way of thinking about them.
Anyway, first, I will clarify that my theory is not Celegorm & Curufin and Maedhros & Maglor not being close in Beleriand; it is that they were NEVER close, even in Aman. We know from the story that Fëanor's sons were fiercely devoted to him, but it's never said that they were especially close with each other. And with a father who was likely demanding, played clear favorites, and had piles of charisma, I could easily see the brothers' relationships being marked by jealousy and simmering resentment, but not in an 'every brother for himself' way. It seems M&M have a strong relationship and C&C do too. Caranthir is the odd one out where it seems like none of his brothers are too attached, and honestly there's so little about Amras & Amrod but from what's there they form another obvious pair. But yeah, C&C definitely have a lot connections to the rest of the family! And it seems like those friendships were created before the Darkening and the Flight, and then renewed after Maedhros' rescue.
After Fëanor's death, Maedhros leads his brothers, but here I don't think that's because of any especial familial love or 'big brother Maedhros protective power uwu', and more because as Princes of the Noldor descended from Fëanor they are a *political* unit.
Sidebar: I think the 'family' part of the family politics of the House of Finwë is super overemphasized and the 'politics' part languishes. Like, Maedhros' brothers owe some sort of political allegiance to him (I'd say fealty... but I feel like someone with more historical knowledge will jump out of the woodwork and 'well ackshually' me) -- they are not a normal modern family!!
Now, I think the common fandom interpretation of suffocatingly close and devoted sons of Fëanor is a reasonable conclusion to reach from reading 'Of the Return of the Noldor' and I don't think my 'brothers at odds' theory is more canon; it's more that I don't think close and devoted take is the only reasonable conclusion. I have in fact seen people discard an obvious interpretation of events off hand because of the fact that all of the sons of Fëanor were soooo obviously devoted to each other, any time they didn't seek each other out there must be *something* preventing them from joining their brothers.
I really must disagree -- while C&C seem very close as do M&M, I think it's just as likely that when they're all together they're an acrimonious bitter mess, and that Maedhros staked out lands for them out east not just to keep the peace with Fingolfin & Finrod, but also to reduce fighting between his brothers. Also, them being an acrimonious bitter mess together does not mean they aren't charming, fun even, apart. Finrod is friends with all three pairs (sorry Caranthir); there's the other aforementioned C&C Arafinwean friendships and Aredhel friendship; Maedhros is friends with Fingolfin and Fingon. They even form alliances with non-elves apart, with Curufin befriending some dwarvish groups independently, and different brothers forming different mannish alliances. And I haven't even mentioned Amrod & Amras and the green elves. This all points to the brothers being reasonable, personable people when separated, capable of forming friendships and political alliances both, and perhaps to some degree hating each other's guts when together.
Food for thought! I welcome any and all enjoyers of my 'the sons of Fëanor would rather not be in a room together ever again' theory.

Ok but consider; The Valar lie about Maglor being in Mandos.
So let's say Maglor is in middle-earth getting therapy Hobbit-Style. He’s living his best life in The Shire healing from his trauma.
But on the other side of that damn ocean, his concerned, reembodied family (minus Feanor, stubborn ass spirit of fire) are told that he is healing in Mandos. The Valar are thinking it’s fiiiine because he is healing and will probably come to Valinor eventually, right? So what’s the harm?
Meanwhile, the reembodied Sons of Feanor are getting suspicious, and Finrod keeps looking at Maedhros with his “I Know Something They Don’t” look (Maedhros knows every look on his baby cousins’ faces. He babysat every finwean child until Maeglin was begotten. Maedhros Can Tell Something Is Afoot.)
A brief interlude for @dreamingthroughthenoise and @cuarthol ‘s joint Finrod Headcanon; whereas Finrod is the one who created the Sea Longing via trying to get Maglor to come home. Read more about that at your own delight.
Interlude over; So The Valar starts to Sweat because now people are asking questions Galadriel is whispering schemes to her brothers and Finrod is whispering right back (Orodreth is stuck between them happily, the sap). Then the Arafinweans start scheming with the Feanorians and you know the Nolofinweans (*cough* Fingon & Aredhel *cough*) are gonna go kicking down doors to invite themselves into The Scheming.
Before long, the entire finwean fam is Scheming and playing the “I’m sleeping over at the Feanorians’ house” and “I’m sleeping over at the Nolofinweans’ house” game with their parents (Except the Arafinweans, whose parents have long since given up trying to keep track of their children).
Anyway at the end of it all, even Ulmo is in on The Scheming, which helps when the finweans go on a treasure hunt for their last family member in Middle-Earth. The hobbits throw a huge goodbye party. Gandalf is there.

Imagine rescuing Finrod with your dragon
Tumblr media
Link for the First headcanon
Requested by Anon
Hi Animator Weirdo! Might I request a one shot/mini fic where Ann (Ancalagon) and reader go and save Finrod and Beren, trash Sauron’s place and maybe even steal a silmaril later on? Thank you! And congratulations on the 500 followers! 🎉🥳
( I only recently realized you wanted a one shot kind of fic. I'm sorry. I ended up making a mixed headcanon/one shot, so I hope you still like it)
Warnings: mentions of Celegorm and Curufin being a pair of bricks, mentions of loneliness, fear, manipulation, imprisonment, burning orcs, and werewolves, saving Finrod, Ann having too much fun wrecking Sauron's place, and a lighthearted ending.
----------------------------------
- If you had known how things would have turned out for Finrod, when he left with Beren to claim a silmaril from Morgoth's crown, you would have tried harder to convince him to take you and Ann with him.
- Ever since he rescued you from the river and allowed your dragon friend to live in Nargothrond despite the differences— you were not willing to lose him to anything, including his oath. He was too important and dear to you for you to lose him to death.
- He first refused your offer to join him when Beren arrived in Nargothrond to seek his aid and when the two sons of Feanor, Celegorm, and Curufin, threatened his people to become unwilling to join him with only a handful of people ready to aid him on this journey.
- He feared for your safety, and despite the advantages your dragon friend could provide him, he wanted you both to remain in Nargothrond, away from the enemy’s hands.
- Your heart swelled for his consideration for your dragon's safety, even if it took months for his people to get accustomed and accept one of Morgoth's creations living among them. However, it only made you more determined to see him return safely, but despite your reasonings and fears, Finrod convinced you to stay.
- He left Nargothrond under Orodreth Care and you with false hopes that things might turn out alright in the end.
- You missed him terribly, and things began to change rapidly when he was no longer governing Nargothrond. The Feanorian princes saw an opportunity to take charge and appeal as more eligible leaders to Finrod's people, trying to overshadow Orodreth. And to your concern, Finrod’s people seem to take on their side each day despite Orodreth's rightful kingship.
- Luckily, some didn't and remained strictly on Orodreth's side. Most being those who still held grudges toward the brothers for something they had done in the past.
- You have never been fond of the brothers. They were arrogant and looked down upon you and Finrod for having a relationship because you were a human. They had even jabbed at you for your past, calling you Morgoth’s thrall, and even tried to make you look like a spy when you ventured to Angband to free Ann and returned on his back to Nargothrond.
- That stunt might have made you look like one, but you have never been one of Morgoth's thralls.
- They always played with people's fears, and perhaps since you had a dragon on your side, most of Finrod's people remained on Orodreth's side. It was not something you hoped for, but it seemed to help preventing the Feanorians from taking full control of Nargothrond and possibly overthrowing Orodreth.
- It was a stressful situation, and you couldn't seek much comfort from anyone except Orodreth and Ann, who had taken a liking to residing in one of Nargothrond's caves and guarding its treasures. He made an excellent treasure guard.
- Despite Ann's size and indifference toward emotional affairs, he knew how to make you feel safe and calmly talked about events that helped you feel better. He even allowed you to rest against his warm scales. It was an old habit whenever you wanted a moment of peace and quiet, even though lying on hoards of gold was not very comfortable.
- When days passed, your anxiety for Finrod's well-being only grew, especially when one of the Feanorians had begun trying to sweet talk to you. You never thought you would find someone's voice so agitating, and you hated acting polite and well-mannered with the Feanorian but knew you would end up in trouble if you didn't.
- Then, the day arrived when the Feanorians brought an elven princess from Doriath.
- There was something suspicious about it because the Feanorians should have brought her to meet with Orodreth as a matter of courtesy. However, when she suddenly seemed to vanish, and no new information was heard about her, you decided to investigate.
- You first tried getting it out from the Feanorians, and they claimed she was just a guest and wasn't available at the moment. She was resting or something.
- You were familiar with their patterns of lying, and then you found out in secret that the princess was, in fact, Luthien, the elven princess Beren has fallen in love with. The Feanorian brothers were keeping her as a prisoner and planned to marry her off to one of them despite the laws and the very nature of the elves. You found that utterly disgusting, and they once claimed humans were the only ones who could do such things.
- You knew how much Thingol hated the Noldor and how possibly a civil war could be born if he found out his only daughter was married against her will, so you decided to act quickly since her appearance also meant something was wrong with Beren and Finrod.
- You convinced Orodreth to assist you in retaining the two while you released Luthien from the room they had locked her in. Orodreth may have been easy to persuade, but his fear of Thingol's wrath outweighed any influence the Feanorians could exert, so he was firmly on your side.
- Luthien was incredibly grateful to you and explained how she saw visions of Beren and Finrod suffering in Sauron's isle of werewolves, where they had been captured and tortured with a ravenous wolf hiding in the shadows.
- Having a valid reason to leave, you allowed Luthien to go first upon Huan as the hound was against his master's treacherous actions and handled the Feanorians first before departing.
- Due to their vicious plan, they quickly fell out of favor with Finrod's and their people. You received Orodreth's assurance that they would be dealt with accordingly, and given the severity of their actions, they will most likely face banishment.
- After all that, you and Ann were good to leave. Finrod needed you more than anything.
- One perk of having a flying dragon is that you can get to places much faster than any horse or dog. You didn't waste time planning Finrod's rescue when you finally reached Tol-in-Gaurhoth, the isle of the werewolves. You did hope you were not too late to save your beloved from the fangs of death.
—-
The orcs and werewolves of Toul-In-Gauroth were unprepared for the attack. They were taken by surprise when a fierce wind swept through like a violent hurricane, tearing their master's banners from their places and drowning out all other sounds with what seemed like thunder.
The orcs in the towers had no time to sound the alarms as they witnessed a shadow descending from the sky, its wings enveloping Tol-In-Gauroth.
Only one managed to cry out and alert the others of the approaching beast. "Attack!" the orc screamed as fire engulfed the tower.
The black dragon unleashed a torrent of flames upon the towers and walls. The wretched orcs and werewolves wailed in agony as the dragon's fiery breath consumed them. Their screams of pain reached the fortress's lord, sounding the alarm.
Ann glided around the fortress as smoke pillars billowed from within its walls and the remnants of crushed towers. He landed gracefully on one of the remaining intact towers, gripping it tightly with his claws. With his immense strength, he began tearing through the stone and steel.
The orcs tried defending their fortress, shooting arrows at the dragon, which only bounced away after hitting his armored scales. Ann swiped his tail against the orcs, swatting them away like flies.
Ann then ignored the screaming of orcs and the howling of the wolves, who ran away from the sight of him and began sniffing the air, trying to find a certain scent. When he found the scent emanating from the lower parts of the fortress, he crushed the walls and the ceilings through his closed fist, allowing you to slip in through his fingers where you had hidden before the attack.
You looked around while Ann pulled his fist away and continued tearing the fortress apart, keeping the attention of Sauron and the defenders upon himself.
After ensuring the coast was clear, you ventured into the dungeon, intending to find and free your beloved and his foolish company.
Finrod, Beren, and the rest of their companions were taken by surprise when the stone walls of their cell began to shake, releasing dust and pebbles from the force. The wolf that had preyed upon them from the shadows had left, and a roar was heard from the outside of the dungeon. Finrod's eyes widened as he recognized the roar.
They then heard the door to their cell open, and Finrod saw you walking in with a set of keys and your axe in your hands.
"(Name)? What are you doing here?!" Finrod demanded in shock as you began opening their chains.
"Rescuing you!" you replied as you hit their shackles and chains open with your axe when the keys failed.
"From now on, you will not tell me to stay behind, especially when you end up captured by the enemy and when I have a bloody dragon who is more than willing to wreck his former master's place to free you," you stated as you helped him and Beren up.
"Come on. We need to leave fast before Sauron notices something," you said as you led him, Beren, and the rest of their company out of the fortress.
Ann ripped the fortress apart, crumbling the stone with his weight and setting fire to the rest of Sauron's werewolves.
A shadow rose from the fallen ruin, standing before the great dragon.
"Ancalagon!" Sauron yelled in fury. "Is this how you betray your masters, you traitor?!" he demanded as the dragon looked down upon him with a golden glare. "You fool!" Ann said in a grumbling voice. "I was never yours to begin with!" his eyes blazed brighter with golden fire.
Ann's chest began to glow. Sauron backed away when Ann opened his jaws and then released a barrage of fire upon the Maia.
Sauron changed forms and narrowly escaped in the form of a vampire. He cursed the dragon as there was nothing he could do to save his fortress and forces and flew toward the north.
You watched as Ann continued wrecking the fortress before turning your attention to Finrod and his company. Luthien had arrived later, riding upon Huan and reuniting with her beloved Beren. Finrod’s companions took the chance to enjoy the light and fresh air after being trapped in Sauron’s dungeon for so long. You began tending to Finrod’s injuries.
“Ann seems to have fun wrecking the fortress,” you stated as you wrapped his injured hands and legs in the bandages you had brought along. “I hope you don’t mind that,” you said, and Finrod dryly chuckled at your sentence.
“No…” he uttered. “At least, he ensures Tol Sirion can never be used by the enemy again. And it kinda of looks better. Sauron had a terrible taste in the design and the interior,” he explained, making you snort. “I guess it does look better,” you commented after you finished wrapping and offered him water.
Finrod grabbed the waterskin from your hands and stared at it with a look on his face before glancing at Beren and his other companions. “Don’t worry. I brought extra,” you showed the other waterskin you had taken with you. “I came in a rush, but I planned ahead what you might need after rescuing you,” you stated. Finrod chuckled. “You always come prepared,” he noted. “Well… after doing a few trips away from Angand and doing a trip there once. You learn a thing or two when it comes to preparing, and trust me– you do not want to taste the water in Morgoth’s lands,” you said.
“I trust you,” Finrod said, his voice filled with gratitude as he took a long, satisfying drink from the waterskin. It was evident that he had been deprived of fresh water for quite some time, and the relief was palpable on his face. After quenching his trish, he turned his gaze toward you.
“Thank you, my love. Many more of us would have perished if you hadn't come,” he stated.
You nodded with a hint of determination in your eyes. “It seems sometimes it's okay not to listen, especially when you have a good reason not to,” you said. “And I was already on the verge of going stir-crazy with Celegorm in the same house,” you added, prompting a snort of laughter from Finrod.
“I’m serious!” you exclaimed, your voice laced with playful frustration. “Don’t leave me ever again in the same place as that blondie. I was this close to fulfilling the urge to let Ann eat him alive,” you said, pinching your fingers together for emphasis.
Finrod chuckled, his laughter filling the atmosphere. “Understood, my dear,” he said with a grin, and the two of you shared a hearty laugh, finding solace and humor amid the adversity.
"I don't care what you say. I'm coming with you. I already stole from Morgoth once. I might as well do it again," you said sternly. "I do not think I can convince you otherwise even if I tried," Finrod said. "Good," you said, then chuckled and enjoyed the moment together as Ann returned to you, having reduced once Tol Sirion into nothing but rubble.
