atla/tlok characters that i think did *it* (but i just can’t prove it)
this is the most unserious post i’ve ever made. (AND I WANT TO PREFACE BY SAYING BY *IT* I MEAN KISSING)
Sozin and Roku
Tumblr media
and history will say that they were just great friends…
this is the only one where ill legitimately die on this hill
like i’m 90% sure roku just showed Aang their friendship in the flashbacks to prevent awkwardly explaining to a 12 year old monk that he was romantically and/or physically involved with the person who committed a g*nocide against his people
LIKE CMON WHY IN THE WORLD WAS SOZIN SO PRESSED IN THE BACKGROUND OF ROKU’S WEDDING ??? AND FOR NO REASON?? WHY WAS THEIR FRIENDSHIP SO INTENSE?
sozin i feel loved roku (to an obsessive level) and roku literally dgaf. king shit
Wan and Raava
Tumblr media
genuinely what the fuck was going on between these two. like i don’t even have any words
canonically at the very least it was a domestic partnership
S2 korra doesn’t make sense at the best of times. imagine trying to explain the intensity of this pair’s devotion to each other, to someone who hasn’t seen the show- all the while knowing raava is a disembodied spirit practically older than time
she’s the embodiment of everything good and light in the universe and he’s just wan. (and he’s wanough <3)
‘do you think we’re soulmates in every life?’
‘bet’
‘wait that’s not what i-‘
Cabbage Merchant and his cabbages (or at least a cabbage)
Tumblr media
yeah i’m not touching this one with a 10 foot pole
Every member of the red lotus squad
Tumblr media
ah yes it’s my favourite evil polycule
amidst plans to kidnap children and topple monarchies what else is there to do except… kiss.
let’s be real there’s something so inherently romantic about being apart of an elite, vaguely murderous anarchist squad
they all share one exact bed. it’s canon
(p’li somehow big spoons all of them)
The S2 Nomads
Tumblr media
these dudes are the textbook definition of anti-monogamy
like they’re obsessed with love so i fully believe that they think ‘it should be spread amongst others’ or some shit
oh to be a travelling communist nomad in a band, wandering the wilds with my wife, and our several partners
they’re somehow the opposite of the red lotus and yet the same. they all share a single bed/sleep area
The dangerous ladies (but all separately)
Tumblr media
i don’t ship any of these particularly and yet can still admit that it’s canon
ty-lee and azula have kissed bc azula probably made up a dumb excuse like ‘oh i don’t want my first kiss with a guy to be… erm… bad’
mai and ty-lee have kissed because they both probably have genuine, vaguely deep rooted romantic feelings for each other
mai and azula have kissed to purely spite zuko (and yknow what ty-lee too)
HOWEVER A KEY ASPECT TO THIS DYNAMIC: azula is completely unaware about the ty-lee and mai thing. it’s uh… better off that way.
Hakoda and Bato
Tumblr media
i ship this about 50% but like… it’s got to have happened once right? considering all that down time they spent together on a boat away from the repercussions of water tribe society…
also considering they were leaders i doubt the other warriors were in a position to ever call them out on it
like cmoooooooon what’s a little kiss between the homies every now and again?
hakoda is where sokka gets his rizz/flagrant bisexuality from and i can’t change that guys

All Roads Lead to Love? - Chapter II
Tumblr media
cw: canon-typical violence. quirk use. oc characters are introduced. reader has a described quirk. Please see additional masterlist warnings! Masterlist
The remainder of the week passes without consequence. This new information about your life doesn’t change anything, because even if you can see the same man on every news channel, you have nothing to discuss and your lives don’t overlap.
Sitting by a couple of teenage girls at a train station and hearing them speculate about Uravity and Deku on your way to work the next day adds particularly to this sentiment. Their longstanding will they won’t they is only part of the reason why you’ve never made your feelings known. Uravity is perfect for him in every way, after all. You just wish they would hurry up and go public, hopefully even get married, so you can stop addressing the niggling feeling that perhaps, just perhaps, all these years you’ve made a mistake.
When you find your way into the clinic, Junko is wide-eyed and excited to hear everything you learned overnight, and you conveniently leave the part where in at least five universes except yours, not only are you not single, you’re romantically involved with Mr. Number One Pro Hero Deku himself.
“Who knocked the first one up? I have to know.”
You eye the Deku bobblehead on her work desk you’d desensitized yourself to, and shrug, pretending you don’t know.
“Any add-ons today?” you ask instead, and disappear into the back room before she can ask you more questions. At least you know what you’d look like if you were pregnant.
Sorry I can’t make it tonight. Please let me know if you or Iida need anything.
Izuku’s voice to speech has a tendency to make him sound excessively formal, but it’s better than typing in a hurry and having to correct ten individual typos, cursed by clumsy, large hands. He’s rushing to the third out of five meetings today - the unwelcome side effect of being One to Watch (although he wonders at one point he’s simply There given how long it’s been) - and then he’s set for a patrol in a particularly dangerous neighborhood for the evening. He wishes he could trade it, but considering the point of the patrol was less to fight a specific enemy but to show a strong Hero presence, specifically his presence, he’s aware that it must be him.
Ochaco will understand. After all, he’s been with Ochaco at Iida’s bedside most days this week in the evenings given a recent injury, and even if Ochaco won’t say it, perhaps the two do need some time alone. They’d both been reluctant to reveal their affections for each other, given Ochaco’s history with him, but a part of Izuku’s soul understands that this arrangement was probably for the better anyway. While he loved Ochaco dearly, he’d always had the sense something was wrong about them, like momentum having him hurtling in the wrong direction. But there’s not much you can do when one of your best friends proclaims their love for you where everyone can see, and you’re just a high schooler with the weight of the world on your shoulders and then some, and there’s even less you can do when the person you’d long hoped would return your feelings seemed to be preoccupied with someone else.
Either way, years have passed and there are no hard feelings between the trio of friends, and Izuku particularly has simmered down on the prospect of love.
Somewhat.
Just minutes later, a reporter asks him for the third time this month if he and Uravity have considered working as a pair, and he smiles and nods before politely redirecting the question to praising her talent profusely. He understands easily why she’s reluctant to go public with Iida, and wishes desperately he wasn’t in her way.
Perhaps in another universe, if they had ended up loving each other, this aspect of the job would be easier - the media circus would have died out by now; they’d both be able to focus on doing what they chose to do with their lives, which is be Heroes and help as many people as possible.
They’d be able to live quietly.
The reporter then asks if he’s still in contact with most of the people he went to school with. This question takes him aback, and he blinks for a moment as he watches the young woman before him resettle in her seat, eyes hungry for information.
He runs through the list of everyone he’s known. He’s 28 now, and it’s been a decade since he’s graduated from high school. Most of the people he’s known he interfaces with on at least a weekly to monthly basis, save for a select few like Shoto, Katsuki, Iida and Ochaco that he sees almost daily. He admits he hasn’t seen Koda in a while, now that he lives in the forest similar to the Wild Wild Pussycats, nor Jirou who dedicated more of her life to music these days, and then his thoughts settle on you.
He knows what you’re up to, but he hasn’t spoken to you in over a year, despite remembering your last conversation at UA’s 10 year reunion. Brief - you were already slightly tipsy, and you smiled at him, but seemed disinterested in whatever he had to say, almost like you wanted to leave as soon as possible. He’d asked you how your clinic was going, and you’d laughed, the warmth of alcohol deepening the complexion in your cheeks, and said noncommittally, “it’s going,” before turning back to your friends. You’d once been so excited to tell him every thought running through your head, and you’d bounce off ideas for hours, discussing everything from Quirks to biology to society to your hopes and dreams, and after just a few years apart, he received next to nothing.
Leave her alone, Midoriya, is all that ran through his head, after that, and he politely bowed and left.
“Yes, we all help each other out when needed!” he replies. It isn’t a lie. For every one of his classmates, even you. If you called him, he would come to your rescue. Anytime.
When the interview ends, he wishes for a moment that he had the courage to call.
The last person you could have expected to call you, calls you on a Thursday afternoon, as you make your way out of work, and from his voice, you can tell he’s surprised you actually sought to answer the phone.
“I… uh… wow. Hey.”
“Hey.”
Your cheeks warm, but it’s not love, it’s the nostalgia of several years coming back, and the fact that your high school boyfriend seems flustered to speak to you despite years of lost contact.
“You never changed your number,” Akira says, and you laugh. You can envision him easily, after all social media makes it such that no one truly becomes a stranger, and you know that he’s crinkled he has the same goofy smile on his face that helped you forget all that you’d been through in the Hero course, reminded you that there was more to life than self-sacrifice.
“You didn’t change yours,” you’re quick to reply.
“Touché.”
You can tell he’s grinning now, and it makes your heart light. You’re walking towards the train station and it’s a spring afternoon; you can see lovers hold hands as they walk past you, and you can’t remember the last time you’ve been on a date.
And as if he knows how you feel, he asks you on one.
“The truth is you’ve been on my mind a lot recently.”
“Are you newly single?” you ask. It’s meant to be a playful jab, but you can tell he’s stung when he replies, “Newly isn’t the word for it, but yes, I am single.”
You blow air through your nose, but Akira is harmless. He makes his way around women easily with a silly sort of charm, and being easy on the eyes, but he’s not the type to break a woman’s heart. If anything, you were the one who broke his by ending things when you decided to focus on graduate school.
“Remember how I really liked enka?”
Evenings in the dorm rooms laid side by side with shared headphones come to mind.
“Yeah. Are you famous now?” you tease. He tuts at you, but adds,
“Come to my open mic night on Friday. I’ll buy you sashimi afterwards and we can go drinking.”
You think for a moment that in 5 separate universes, you’re in love with Izuku and maybe you should figure out what that’s about, but in this one, Izuku is nowhere to be found and perhaps it’s more important for you to hear your ex-boyfriend belt ballads and loosen up over sake and sake don.
You think for a moment, and then say, “Sure.”
There’s probably a social crime involved in inviting your friends to a date, and you can tell Akira’s a bit annoyed about it from the slight scrunch of his eyebrows when he watches you walk into the bar with two of your closest friends flanking your sides. He’s at the front already, and waves at you enthusiastically, and he’s every bit the cute boy from the support class who helped you with your pageant routine (you didn’t win that year, but you placed thanks to him), just sharper in the face, and with longer wavy dark hair.
You wave back, and your friends push you to the front and take their seats in the back. They’d also both gone to UA, and one was in the hero class with you, while the other was a year ahead, in the support class, and recognizes Akira, even if she hadn’t particularly approved of him in the past. She hadn’t exactly disliked him, but you could tell she was less warm when it came to him. Your other friend doesn’t seem to recognize him immediately, turning immediately to order the two of you drinks.
You slip into the open seat beside Akira and he offers you a drink and a rose. It’s cheesy but it makes you smile.
“I’m going to wow you, just so you know,” he promises as he makes his way on stage. You raise your eyebrow, as if to say ‘prove it’ while he skips onto the stage.
And he’s a hit, all flashing teeth and low notes, and you can feel your face warm every time he sings in your direction. He’s always had a beautiful voice, and easily flustered, you look down at your drink, heart thumping.
And then, in a stroke of misfortune (to you), he slips your name into the song, and when you look up at him, he’s reaching a hand out towards you, bidding you to come on stage.
The very idea feels like hell to you. The rest of the bar’s patrons watch you and cheer and you glance at your friends, both of whom are waving their hands to push you on stage. When you look back at Akira, he’s still smiling, but you can feel the tinge of anxiety at the idea of you rejecting him in public. You wouldn’t, would you?
You can’t.
You slowly rise to take his hand, as people clap around you, but before you can take another step, before you can embarrass yourself in front of a room full of people, there’s a deafening sound that comes from your right side that practically stuns you, and shortly after, a forceful blast of air and shattered concrete follows and nearly knocks you off your feet.
The ringing of your ears mutes the abounding screams in the room. Your fortifying Quirk kicked in just in time, so you weren’t thrown that far, but bodies are strewn across the room. You don’t see Akira, and the right side of the room is practically cleared with tables and chairs tossed haphazardly and people scrambling for cover or already unconscious.
Adrenaline rushes through your veins, but you act first. You are a Hero after all, even if you’ve been out of the fray for years. A quick glance lets you know that your friends are already in action, trying to recover a few people thrown over the bar, and you attempt to push rubble off of you and start rescues.
Your Quirk activates again to fortify yourself as you begin to move, but a second, louder explosion occurs, one that does actually knock you off your feet, destroying part of the foundation of the building. The ceiling starts to cave in just above you - you’ve always had the best luck - and you’re too slow to move before it all comes crashing down.
You put yourself into a protective huddle, hopeful for your Quirk to minimize your damage, but never feel the pain of falling wreckage.
“... Hi.”
Says Izuku Midoriya, hovering over you and shielding your body from harm with a piece of the ceiling held carefully in his hands.
The love of your life in at least five universes and your current savior.
Your eyes meet and hold firmly.
“Hi, I-Izu.. Deku.”
Time seems to slow to a stop for a moment, then comes back up to pace when you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding, your lungs suddenly burning in demand of oxygen. Izuku watches you carefully for a moment, really takes you in, even if you’re quick to thank him before looking around for someone else to save. You’re okay, just shaken; you’ve noticed him for a fleeting moment and now your attention is gone. You turn and scream your friend’s name, and he throws the large block of concrete to the side, remembering his job has only begun.
He’s happy he could do something for you, despite it all. There are more people to save, you remind him with your quick movements, the activation of your quirk to stabilize the first injured man’s bleeding as you crouch around him. He springs back into action - after all, he was meant to chase the culprits of those blasts, and can’t be sidetracked.
But this time, he has resolved to say more to you when the dust clears.
“Rampage, are you hurt? You did a good job back there.”
You can hear your Hero friend, code name Rampage, chat politely with Izuku as they both approach to where you’re huddled in a makeshift rehabilitation corner, a couple of people with the more severe injuries laid out on the ground, rolled up table cloths beneath their heads. No one is gravely injured more than you can heal with your Quirk, but you’ve exhausted enough of your body’s reserves that your head is starting to swim. She’s saying something playful about how Deku stole her thunder, when you turn to both of them and give a report, as Heroes are wont to do naturally.
When he comes over, you remind yourself to remain cordial but businesslike, despite your heart pounding hard in your chest. Nothing happened. Nothing changed. No clones or any lingering delusions can change that.
”I think we’ve accounted for everyone, right? These two -“ you gesture over to the people you’ve slightly sedated to reset a couple of broken limbs, “probably need to get to the hospital just so they have follow-up but it’s not urgent.”
Rampage nods, and Izuku pauses before doing the same. You remember now - the last time you interacted in this capacity was during the earliest parts of the war before things had gotten far out of your realm of ability and you were more helpful taking care of the sick and wounded. It feels like so long ago you’ve been active as a traditional Hero. Rampage on the other hand has kept in contact with Deku cursorily due to her familiarity with other Heroes of a similar level, particularly the noisy one named Dynamight, and while she and Deku are not exactly best friends, they get along well. He glances at her for reassurance before stepping forward to you.
“Thank you for helping out,” Izuku says with a reassuring smile. You try not to look at him when you reply, “Of course.”
In one universe, you have small children that look like some combination of the both of you. In this one, you can barely look each other in the eye.
There is a pause that lasts a little bit too long again, and you don’t notice the smile that forms on Rampage’s face as she steps backwards, hoping not to be noticed by either of you, but the moment dispels when Camilla, your Support friend, calls for all of your attention from across the destroyed hall. She looks absolutely ridiculous, enough that you stifle a laugh, with all manners of cutlery, jewelry, watches, phones, and anything metal, stuck to her from head to toe due to activation of her magnetic quirk.
”Anything you guys are missing?” She asks, stepping over rubble to meet you guys. You’re not sure how she can even see at this point with nearly every inch of her body covered. Close behind her is Akira, whose eyes widen once he spots you.
”You’re okay!” He exclaims running towards you. It’s almost theatrical, as if he hadn’t disappeared to preserve his own safety first, but he wraps you into a tight hug, as though you were long lost lovers. Next to you, Izuku stiffens for a split second, something Rampage and Camilla both notice, and Akira holds you at arms’ length, pretending he can’t see him.
Akira never liked Deku very much in high school.
”I’m so glad you’re okay, everything got so terrifying and…”
Your head is starting to pound, and Akira is gently pulling you away from the rest of the group, you notice, until Izuku speaks up.
”Hey, ___, you don’t look so good.” His voice is a little firmer, and he clears his throat. “Don’t move her so much, I think she needs to sit down.”
Akira flashes him a look that’s slightly poisonous, Camilla notices, then smiles to herself.
“Of course. I’ve just been agitated since our date got ruined, that’s all.” Akira stresses the word and Rampage rolls her eyes.
She never liked him either.
Izuku almost asks ‘what number?’ out loud then realizes it’s an insane question to ask of the thousands he could have reasonably asked. But he’s curious, you don’t seem like you’re particularly smitten enough by him as he tries to help lower you to a sitting position.
The paramedics and other reinforcements are starting to fill in. Izuku keeps an eye on you as he coordinates with Rampage and the rest of the Heroes that now arrive to clean up wreckage and get everyone back in place. Akira’s rubbing your shoulders while you look dazed, too drained in the absence of your energy-conserving Hero suit to shrug him off, and it irks him. Somehow, in just seeing you again for this brief moment, he’s become a high schooler again, thinking of the right words to say, standing in front of your dorm room door before giving up and leaving. He’s seventeen again and watching you poorly conceal a bouquet of flowers he wishes he were the one to give you, avoiding cutting through the grass on the UA campus grounds even though it would get you back faster. He’s eighteen and wondering why even saving the world isn’t enough to make you look at him before you part ways into the adult world that opens before you, and admonishing himself for even having the selfish thought.
He’s shy little Izuku and he wishes you liked him back.
“Deku, do you have a moment to talk with us?” a cheery reporter says, thrusting a microphone in his face. They’re everywhere, he swears, prettier and more persistent every time. He’s polite again, flashing the practiced million-watt-smile.
And just like that he’s Deku, the hero once again.
Electrolyte water and rest does its magic, and as you make breakfast the next morning, you wonder if you should consider packing part of your suit with you, or at least perhaps just the gauntlets that you used back in high school. A modified version that is compact and can slip into your purse so that you never find yourself in a similar situation. You’re greeted the next morning by text by an apologetic Akira who promises you sushi another weekend, which you decide to reply to later, and texts from your friends who make sure that you’re okay, and an email notification for an incident report due in the next two weeks.
You sigh.
That’s why you don’t do Hero work.
Scooping eggs onto a slice of toast, you settle onto your couch, snuggling close with a body pillow and wishing your mind would stop racing for a moment. You don’t want to admit it, but all you can think about is Izuku and his stupid handsome face, and the way his mouth seemed to part every time you met each other's eyes, as if he has a million and one things to say to you but has to hold back. You wish he’d go make those cloying eyes at everyone lined up for his interest. There’s no real claim to him after all, at least not in this universe, regardless of what supposedly exists in the multiverse. You don’t even know if that’s real after all; it’s something that absolutely disrespects the laws of physics, but then again, you know many people whose Quirks do. Aizawa’s adopted daughter Eri is the first to come to mind.
You should do some more research, you decide.
After spending a couple hours on databases and online medical journals researching the existence of Quirks that can interact with the multiverse, you come up with nearly nothing, save for a case report of a person whose Quirk kept generating a wormhole for him that handed him whatever tool he needed (most often chopsticks for some reason). Groaning, you decide Kazuo is unique and either way you’ll see him again in 3 months, and reassess how he’s doing, possibly get a (better) case report out of it. You wonder if he’ll generate the same set of clones, or hopefully a new set of clones, ones who aren’t romantically entangled with Izuku Midoriya, ones more like you who never cared much for him at all, or at least knew, like you, to back off when they saw him standing on the edge of a cliff with the girl who was made for him.
Maybe if you look at the narratives your clones wrote to you, crumpled in a drawer in the corner of your desk, you’d find some flaws. Perhaps this was all a big trick the universe was playing on you, and feelings sitting in your subconscious, sleeping for practically a decade, are now flooding back with a vengeance. It must be the power of suggestion. You do not love him. You do not even particularly like or dislike him. You feel neutral. Neutral is good.
The narratives don’t help. What also doesn’t help is the fact that you’ve stored them in the same place as you keep all other sentimental material, including a diary you kept sparingly since you were a kid, in addition to letters from friends and family, and trinkets you’re afraid to lose. Curiosity has killed many cats and you, so you pore through it as well. Everything in that period of adolescence is amplified, and you went through war, so of course you remember a strong feeling of love that might not be real and should not be held on to.
The diary doesn’t help either.
Of course, some entries are silly and whimsical like you’d expect from a young teen. Excerpts about friends, family, teachers that annoy you, celebrities you think are cute. You find remnants of an old crush on Suneater that must have been so short-lived you can’t remember it, and it surprises you.
And then there’s your thoughts about Izuku, sparse but poignant.
Oh yes, you were in love, and your entries end there. With war, with adulthood, with the life you have now.

I'm sorry but it's ridiculous that you ship them romantically unless there are pictures of Jill and Chris like this, they're just partners and friends in arms and they don't have feelings for each other.
https://64.media.tumblr.com/2f2638883b9d0d8c7e8b2691d5f37667/f71e4854a5101f7a-ee/s640x960/1f0057caacb4c01dfffa18e2f912d87c37ab560b.pnj
Hello! I do not want to start any shipping wars. So, please do not see my replies as an attack on you or your ship. I'm simply sharing what I see in the ship that I enjoy as an explanation to your questions. No hard feelings. I respect your perspective, but I hope you can respect that I have a slightly different one. I fully admit, I want to ship them (Valenfield) romantically, but I can also see them as just work partners and friends.
That's what I like about their relationship - they've worked together for so many years that, in my mind, they practically act like they're married. BUT, I do see how others don't see them as romantically involved (especially since it seems Capcom likes to drop subtle hints and then gaslight them later XD). I haven't seen the newest CGI film (yet), but I bet it just keeps their relationship pretty platonic (which I anticipate).
It's just a pairing that I grew to love as I delved into the RE universe.
RE5 in particular made me ship them haaarrrrdd. They both fought for each other so desperately and it breaks my heart just thinking about it. And it didn't really hit me until I took the time to think about what they've both been through and how much they mean to each other. When I first played RE5 I didn't really understand it. It wasn't until I looked into their history a little more and then read a lot of the surrounding media (like the in game character files, etc) that it struck me just how intertwined Chris and Jill are and have always been in the franchise - then I started shipping them pretty hard.
The first time I watched their reunion scene in RE5, after gaining this new insight, I was trying my best to hold back tears. Like, she died for him and suffered mind-control to save him. And he was the one that freed her from it. He never stopped looking for her (Kind of like the classic lovers trope of knowing the other is alive).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then the flood gates opened as Chris left the elevator all sad after leaving Jill's side. It was just so obvious to me how much it hurt Chris to have to leave Jill again after searching for her for years.
Tumblr media
To me, the writers make it pretty clear just how much Valenfield mean to each other - the real purpose for Chris to even be in Africa was to find Jill. I guess there is a tragedy to their relationship that I can appreciate. Like... how different their lives might have been if bio-terrorism was never a threat. Or at least, if it didn't continually screw with their lives. I can't help but feel like maybe they would have pursued a relationship with each other if things hadn't become so hectic. But instead they were stuck in this 'not the right time' sort of limbo because they have to focus on taking down the next threat. And instead of them being able to enjoy some of their successes in the fight, they come out more battered and bruised. More broken than before. And that's just really sad.
I'm obviously not going to convince you (and that's okay!) as you must have your own preferred ship, but, since this is my blog, I'm going to share more potential romantic (and canon) Valenfield:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, some quotes from an official RE5 Japanese guidebook:
"...Chris' chest is filled with an indescribable emptiness. Many comrades have been sacrificed to repair the errors of fools. Even if the world is saved, these friends will never return. He had lost his irreplaceable former partner." "...Chris is staring hard at a statue of a sleeping beauty. He's like a person looking at his lover through a mirror, where the other side of the mirror is a different dimension. [regarding the picture of Jill in a Tricell test tube] ... Despite that, Chris is able to recognize the person. He has been chasing this lead all the while, just so he can repair the missing piece of his heart. This can't be a mistake, nor an illusion. This is a fact."
Indescribable emptiness? Irreplaceable? Looking at his lover? Missing piece of his heart?? Well slap me upside the head and shake the Valenfield outta me, but that's some pretty strong love language if you ask me.
And again, it's totally okay if you don't ship them! I can totally see how they could just be close partners, and you can enjoy whatever ship you'd like.
I only hope I can help you understand a little better why I like the Valenfield ship. And yes, I do admit I'm probably a little too fanatical about it. Sorry ;; BONUS:

Read your post about wu, misako, and garmadon and the love triangle. Great post and loved your joke. If you didn't make a post yet, I was wondering what your opinion is on the season 3 love triangle between Nya, Jay, and Cole?
Tumblr media
Part two-
Okay so history lesson: season three is around the time the showrunners figured out that girls watched the show as well, and what better way to appeal to girls than with love drama right guys??? Because that's not stereotypical and insensitive, and butchering female characters for the sake entertainment isn't misogynistic at all!
... Okay so I have some negative thoughts, but the love triangle doesn't necessarily have to be bad? It's not great writing, but NinjaGo writers are known to sacrifice consistency for the sake of the plot a LOT so I'm not going to make a huge deal out of it. Up until Cole was described as Nya's "perfect match," she never had any interest in him. The love triangle between her and Cole comes completely out of nowhere, and gets treated more seriously in the show than most of the fans take it.
So let's try to break it down - Nya and Jay establish at the beginning of season 3 that they have some boundaries. They don't state what they are, but it's implied Jay isn't allowed to fawn over her and get super clingy. Which, after a reminder, Jay actually fulfills. The first episode implies they're in a healthy relationship, with even their students knowing about it. Nya even seems excited by the idea that Jay might be her perfect match.
Then she gets paired with Cole, and she insists no one say anything. Now, I'm gonna dip into my psychology classes and say that Nya's sudden "feelings" and "attraction" to Cole is based off of the power of suggestion rather than actual attraction.
The Power of Suggestion is the theory that when an individual has an idea conveyed to them, and only after that, said idea becomes a reality. The way it works is that your brain has to consider every idea that pops up in it, and how you react to that idea can strengthen it. Nya's extreme shock to the idea that she's meant to be with Cole solidified the suggestion that she should be with him in her mind, and with the way the human brain works, she was already thinking of reasons why. When your brain makes a statement, it automatically looks for proof, and so that's why Nya was able to believe that she genuinely had feelings for Cole - because she had plenty of reasons for why she could.
It's confirmed that Cole didn't really have feelings for Nya. He liked the attention, and because of Jay immediately getting mad at him for it, he amped up his own reactions. I don't think Cole ever had feelings for Nya, and he just got competitive because that's part of his personality.
Jay on the other hand. Since day ONE Jay has been interested in Nya. He wanted to know her favorite color, wanted to impress her. Him unlocking his true potential was because she admitted she actually liked him no strings attached. He's been head over heels for that girl from the start, and he's canonically very insecure about being liked. So when Pixal, someone who almost never lies, says that she's supposed to be with Cole, and Nya doesn't immediately reassure him? He was bound to react the way that he did. That being said, immediately jumping to violence was wrong of him, especially because he didn't technically have proof Cole had acted on anything, but it makes sense.
To put it bluntly, everybody messed up. Nya shouldn't have hid the perfect match thing, or tried to initiate any kind of romantic affection with Cole. Cole shouldn't have reciprocated, and especially shouldn't have endorsed hiding it from Jay. Jay should have asked what was going on, and actually gotten the information he needed before going on the attack - not to mention he should have focused his hurt on the fact that Nya actually kind of cheated on him, but it's understandable why he was mad at Cole.
If someone wants to argue for Mudshock, I'm all for it! I just don't like the way it was canonically portrayed. It did feel very teenager-y so kudos to the team for being accurate to the vibes, but ultimately they ended up butchering two incredible characters (Nya and Cole) for the sake of marketing. I don't think anyone who wrote this actually knows how upsetting it is when you find out your partner is cheating on you with your best friend, so they played up the love triangle for the masses.
TL:DR: in canon? I'm not a fan of Mudshock. In fanon, where it gets explored and balanced out and all three of them are healthy and supportive??? ABSOLUTELY SIGN ME UP BABY

SHIPPING INFO:// Answer the following for your muse(s) so people know how shipping works on your blog
REPOST. DON'T REBLOG
What’s your OTP for your Muse(s)?:
I don't like "One ✨ True ✨ Pairing" when it comes to rp. This isn't Highlander. I do love and enjoy all the connections I've made with writing.
What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?:
Romantic, Sensual, Friendship, Familial, Platonic, Enemies.
It depends on the muses, what the other mun is looking for, and the chemistry which develops over time. Soulmates and deep romance are welcome as well as the complicated toxic. Regret flavored co-parenting 'what are you in my life?' If "it" happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it's all good too.
If a muse is a love interest from canon (listen, there's like 5 of them plus Frenchie in the entire history), I'm happy to pre-establish, it just takes a talk to make sure we're on the same page. For Layla, I'm exclusive with @lalamoon.
How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?:
Age gaps are fine. The System is going to be 40 per my calendar this year but I sort of go between mid-30s to early 40s in my head. If a muse over a decade younger than the System, I'll probably be more selective than when they're closer in age.
Are you selective when shipping?:
I like shipping. We gotta talk about it first.
The System has a lot of baggage (what character doesn't). They're not everyone's type. Marc will never stop being Moon Kn.ight. He can be convinced to take breaks but whenever he promises he'll stop, he always gets back to work. He's got terrible coping mechanisms and struggles which make him difficult to be in a relationship with. Which, if you want to explore that up and down, that's cool.
You don't have to ship someone with the entire System. Usually, if someone only wants Marc, Steven and Jake aren't really interested in that person anyway. And there's still interesting dynamics one can write with Steven and Jake without making it romantic or sensual.
Though they don't come up often (thus far), Soldier only really has heart eyes for Reese and Badr is (headcanoned) aroace.
How far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered NSFW?:
When clothes start coming off. I fade to black or bump it to Disco (if we're close in that way). This is not out of any sense of shame. I like my emails job.
Who are other muses you ship your muse with?:
@brooklynislandgirl @cordeliabarton @echoestm @gottahunt @kylo-wrecked @lalamoon @lt-ghxst @prettytm @positivelybeastly @voicestm @wardogsong @writteninscarlet
"It was in the past but we're raising a child" @marlenexalraune and @midnightxmission
Feeling out something @biitchcakes and @webxfshame
Familial @tjhmnd
Rip everyone's notifications o7
Does one have to ask to ship with you?:
I mean, yes.
How often do you like to ship?:
???
Are you multiship?:
Yes. Everyone has their own separate verse and can also cross into AUs. That being said, in main 616 and 'modern/no superheroes' verses, the history between the system and Marlene does impact the present time.
Are you ship obsessed or ship more-or-less?:
I like various flavors of writing. It's never Just About the Ship.
What is your favorite ship in your current fandom?:
Marla / Moon Kn.ight System/Layla
Finally, how does one ship with you?:
Talking, writing, talking….

I like TDBKDK a lot and that's mostly because I like BKDK, TDDK and TDBK separately, so it would make sense that I'd like them three together as well, but a lot of fics about the trio seem to feature Todoroki and Bakugou only bonding because of their respective feelings for Midoriya or getting along/putting up with each other for Midoriya's sake and that's not bad in itself because it makes for an interesting "trope", but it's so so so so so common on AO3 (I've been going through the tag for the trio) that it has started to bother me because I don't know if that makes that much sense when you actually consider their canon relationships. But... What do you think?
Like, it could be said that Midoriya is more important to Todoroki and Bakugou than Todoroki and Bakugou are important to each other and I agree with that. But it still stands, to me, that TDBK do have their own relationship going on and that it isn't really about Midoriya. That's not to say it has never and nothing to do with him. I mean, their affection, in any form, towards Midoriya and the three-way "rivalry" is a thing they have in common, they also interact as a trio often and Midoriya is the main character so a lot of stuff has a tendency to center around him, but it's not only about him... Or is it?
I don't think that writing an OT3 the last part of the OT3 to close is the "least important" or lesser relationship.
I think as a writer of TDBKDK, you need to ask yourself the question what is your starting point - no relationship at the start, an established pair bringing in the third or the OT3 already established going through some tough time.
When people go for the first or second option, I think the easiest starting couple is BKDK (the second easiest is TDDK). I feel like that boils down to a couple of issues:
Bakugou and Deku are both characterized by going after they want (think Deku hanging on to All Might or following Bakugou even when rejected, think Bakugou forcing his way into the OFA secret) and have little boundaries when it comes to each other.
Shouto by contrast is characterized as someone who will take his own feelings out of the equation when he thinks it would help someone (think about not visiting his mom for 10 years no matter how badly he wanted to see her because he thought it would cause her pain), someone who has no secure parental attachment growing up, has very little reference to understand his own wants and is very inexperienced in navigating human relationships.
So that set-up naturally gives way to a soulful, quietly pining Shouto and BKDK who get competitive about showering him with love.
Bakugou and Todoroki totally have a relationship arc - it's actually one of the most dynamic and best developed relationships in Class A. BKDK goes deeper - but they have a longer history and are more part of each other's psyche. Mind you, that's not inherently a romantic trope - because for Todoroki the person who is deepest in his psyche is Endeavor.
So I think it's possible totally to have TDBK as your starting ship and bring Izuku in as third, it's just rarer, because as long Izuku is around, he seems to be the easiest to naturally progress into a relationship either with Bakugou (because of their history) or with Shouto (because their easy intimacy and trust). So it works better if the set up is that Izuku is away (mission, moved to America etc) or if he's already someone's ex.
My favourite OT3 fics don't really linger on the love triangle aspect though (I hate love triangles) and is more just an idiots to lovers kind of progression.
If you are interested, I'm happy to share my favourite OT3 fics.

I’m not sure if this has already been touched on, but I noticed that blackarachnia/blurr/predaking is listed as an Amica pairing, and was curious about it? Like is it a post canon thing or something that happens before their identities are revealed :] and basically what their relationship dynamic is like
you're right i did list them and yet i've BARELY talked about them AUGH i haven't decided everything exactly, there's more i want to work in but don't know when/how, but this is most of it. they're so important to me... i've sort of infodumped. everything here. um. long post, including post canon spoilers
(friendly reminder that this AU uses Amica Endurae as platonic life partners/spouses, just as culturally significant and legally recognized as romantic Conjunx Endurae)
Predaking and Blackarachnia happen to be roommates (along with notable problem-causer Deadlock) and end up clicking pretty well. Blackarachnia's biting sarcasm and droll defensive wit plays well with Predaking's stubborn independence and thoughtful deliberation. more importantly, Predaking is, down to his core, a protector, and subconsciously took on the role of being stalwart for Blackarachnia when she clearly has some uhhhhh not great family history that's given her baggage. the two of them are the edgy, aloof kids that stand in the corner, arms crossed, visibly judging everyone else in the room together while trading muttered comments about how stupid the adults' arbitrary rules are, and their weaponized back-and-forth has been known to make would-be bullies cry. they settle into a friendship pretty easily and make a great homework team.
enter Blurr, local dweeb, nerd, dork, or whatever assortment of other insults springs to mind. i wouldn't say he's quite a magnet for bullies, but he gets picked on more than his fair share, either for his stutter or his intelligence, depending on who's targeting him. it's not good, obviously, but he brushes this off easily most of the time unless cornered. so when Sentinel, irritated that the skinny little off-planet racer is skimming through textbooks in the library in half the time it's taking himself, starts mocking Blurr with the most cliche and boring bullying possible (calling him four-optics because of his glasses), Blurr just rolls his eyes and doesn't stop reading.
a voice from the back of the study area drawls, shouldn't you be saying that to me?
this is, of course, Predaking, looking at Sentinel with the most unimpressed expression and gesturing to his actual four optics: two in his face, two in the beast head currently on his chest. sitting next to him, Blackarachnia doesn't even look up from her work with any of her four facial optics or eight beast optics as she says, acidly, don't let him get a look at me, i'm not sure he can even count to twelve.
Sentinel, having been verbally eviscerated by these two before, multiple times (he's bad about learning his lesson), sputters and glares and ultimately leaves. Blurr blinks at his retreating back, then at the two who have gone back to their own homework with no further comment, and goes. Huh.
it's not so much an introduction as it is just a quiet, spontaneous moment of solidarity. and it sort of keeps happening, little instances around school. Blurr will hand Blackarachnia her dropped stylus when it rolls over to his table, Predaking will sit a table down from him and glare at an idiot being mean, they'll comment constructively on each other's projects in class, the three of them pass in the hall and sort of do that wordless chin-raise acknowledgement at one another. Blurr is pretty sure they don't know his name, and don't care enough to find out. it's that weird threshold of not-quite-acquaintance but still friendly, not-quite-stranger but i really don't know you. and yet. it's like an unspoken routine. it feels like having allies.
when given the choice to take up relics, Predaking and Blackarachnia go into it together, knowing exactly what kind of risks they're taking, but knowing each other and their priorities well enough to realize that they both want to defend themselves and other hurting people with more than just the witticisms of an angry teenager. they're very good at teamwork and slide right into cooperating with Sixshot very well too. and, extremely importantly, Predaking knows Blackarachnia well enough to spot that her behavior is, um, getting concerning as Airachnid. there's something different about her when she's powered up, and it might not be her calling the shots all the time.
Blurr's talent for snooping gets him the opportunity to take up a relic himself, and it's an extremely disorienting experience at first. he's never been a beastformer, he's not even from a planet that produces beastformers, and it's a whole new host of senses and feelings to deal with! and while he's a staunch Autobot who pretty immediately steps up to be Abominus's default battlefield rival, he has no real enmity for the Predacons and targets him mostly because he knows he's fast enough to mitigate any damage. in fact the two are pretty cordial to one another, that is when Cheetor isn't taking advantage of physics to send Abominus careening several blocks with transferred momentum. so when he discovers he can speak with mechanimals, it's both confusing and exciting, and naturally he wants to ask the only other beastformer heroes around about this. he doesn't know this is something of an offensive stereotype and is chewed out pretty soundly by them, shocked and angered that a fellow beastformer would so pettily play into framist nonsense.
that, he realizes, is something he sorely needs to be educated on. so while as Cheetor he shuts up about speaking to mechanimals and takes a new, delicate, sensitive approach to the media and general publicity where it concerns his frametype, Blurr starts doing research about beastformer experiences in a way he couldn't have learned back home on Velocitron. and perhaps, just maybe, he could screw up his courage to ask his fellow students? one of the first real conversations he has with Blackarachnia and Predaking is one day asking them haltingly, anxiously, if they could clarify something in this article about beastformer statistics he's reading, or if that would be offensive to assume they'd be willing to talk about it just because of their frametype.
it's a gradual acquaintance, one Predaking still latches on to quickly with that same protector's instinct as soon as he realizes how painfully earnest Blurr is. Blackarachnia is kind of amused by the way he nervously self-edits over and over to not say anything wrong, but still calls him out on overcorrecting from ignorance to hyperawareness. she's a person, not a checklist of morally correct conversation choices, at least treat her with the basic decency to act like it. just being around them is extremely valuable to Blurr, but he gets so caught up cataloguing the experience as learning how to not reinforce bad stereotypes as Cheetor that he sort of misses the fact that Predaking and Blackarachnia have come to think of him as something of a friend instead of their local curious nuisance. they notice when he's gone, when he's tired or preoccupied, when he's grappling with something that he never explains. clearly, they think, he's skittish, but could be coaxed over time.
they don't just pass each other in the hall anymore. Blurr asks them nervously if they're alright after the Shockblast debacle. Blackarachnia beelines to safety speaking with Blurr instead of engaging with Tarantulas when he stops by for a visit. Predaking gives his condolences to Blurr when he hears that strange shattered universe had left behind the corpse of a bot who might be his counterpart (Blurr doesn't tell him he killed his doppelganger with his bare hands. he's dealing with it, okay?) at the same time, Cheetor is noticeably more cautious when speaking to the media, subtly steering away from framist assumptions, vocally speaking up about beastformer equity. Abominus doesn't necessarily agree with the Autobots, but he at least feels like one of them is listening. Airachnid spends more and more time ignoring some suspicious changes that occur when she powers up.
and then Airachnid murders someone.
it wasn't premeditated. probably. she dreamed about it for years. they had it coming. no one would believe her. it's sickening. it's liberating. she didn't want to do it. Blackarachnia didn't want to do it. something else decided otherwise.
it's bad. bad enough she doesn't even tell Predaking, her best friend now, instead electing to find a quiet corner somewhere and fall apart. alone. this doesn't quite work out since ever-curious Blurr comes sleuthing into her spot, of course startled and concerned and asking if she's okay, and Blackarachnia snaps at him quite meanly. even so, somehow she still thinks of Blurr as safe enough for her to cry to. she's been emotionally fending for herself for so long, is it wrong to be weak?? to want to be taken care of instead of doing the dirty work herself?? and Blurr, sweet overwhelmed Blurr, does his best to be comforting, but says she should probably be having this conversation with someone she trusts. it's unexpectedly exactly the kind of respect for boundaries that Blackarachnia needs to go tell Predaking everything.
as heroes, the factions are starting to be less standoffish, working (slightly) better with one another when needed. on one of these occasions, Cheetor gets a few tidbits of vital information from, of all sources, a handful of scraplets. try as he might to speak to them surreptitiously, Abominus and Airachnid notice, and are dumbfounded to see he wasn't lying. it's one more small cross-faction bridge of trust.
while things might be improving interpersonally, everything else is worsening near the end of season 4. after a horrific and terrifying event that makes it unsafe for them to be in hero form, the factions retreat, gathering amongst themselves as kids, some meeting without the masks of their relics for the first time. poor Blurr, always the one to feel inferior and alone, has already figured out who most of the other Autobots are as kids, but somehow can't bear to reveal his own identity to them. standing among heroes, not as Cheetor but just as himself? he runs before they even turn to ask him. this time, it's Blurr having a breakdown in a quiet corner and Blackarachnia who finds him. she's not exactly a nice person, but she can still repay the favor and comfort him when he needs it.
in the middle of [finale spoilers] when everyone's identities are revealed to everyone, the only thing keeping everybody working together is an impending apocalypse. in the middle of so many revelations and personalities and high emotions, Predaking and Blackarachnia are actually doing pretty okay. they're unfazed by the surrounding drama and already solidly work well together outside of hero form. so when Blurr, almost cringing away from everyone else in a poor attempt to hide, nervously tries speaking up about something he's figured out, Predaking is the first to notice and step in to support his ideas. there's not exactly a lot of time to talk during the end of the world, but they come to an understanding. it feels like having allies again, except tangible and backed up with skill and force. there's steady certainty there in the midst of so much chaos.
it doesn't get super deep or "official relationship" in SNAP itself, mostly because their high school years aren't actually the most important period of their relationship. but it sets up an extremely important foundation for them that continues post-SNAP. Blurr still gets anxious and skittish and feels like he can't say anything right, what is he doing here he should just slink away and hide—but Predaking picks him up by the scruff of the neck and shakes some sense and affection back into him. Blackarachnia struggles with depression and self hatred for a long time, but Predaking and Blurr staunchly refuse to leave her lonely, sticking with her even in her dark times. there are times when Predaking prioritizes doing work over developing relationships, thinking that his work will of course help those he loves, but Blurr and Blackarachnia don't let him get away with it. not to mention how devastatingly effective the three of them are at Judging anyone trying to be an idiot in their vicinity, lots of would-be Karens get shut down by nothing more than their triplicate unimpressed glares .
of the three of them, Predaking is the one who first and most easily thinks of the other two as his partners, even if he doesn't say it out loud. he doesn't want to scare Blurr off, nor put pressure on Blackarachnia when she can barely stand herself, but he knows what he wants. he is quietly and enduringly devoted to them. Blackarachnia has felt like she's had to be strong, be clever, be quick and defensive and biting for herself her whole life, and yet these two consistently do that for her. she feels safe to be weak around them, and she knows she's taken care of. anxious Blurr still feels kind of like an outsider sometimes, an imposter third wheel on their already solid partnership, but then Predaking will wordlessly shuffle over to invite him to sit, or Blackarachnia will drop a snack in his lap exactly as he's getting hungry, or the two of them will be discussing something and automatically turn to ask his opinion. he doesn't need to be invited in to a relationship he's already part of.
as is pretty typical for him honestly, Predaking says something first, and does so by (as is also pretty typical) jumping right in with no warmup. it's during a conversation they've had many times over, an exercise in hope Rung recommended they try to help Blackarachnia. instead of letting her sit in the dark alone and spiraling, Predaking and Blurr sit with her, speaking aloud a good future, practice for envisioning a world that isn't under fire and themselves happy, healthy, and safe. Predaking's imagined futures have never not included them. with Blurr curled up in one of his wings and an arm over Blackarachnia's shoulders, he muses about a nice simple job rebuilding shelled cities, surely raising roofs only takes a little practice. he wants to see the sunrise over his hometown Helex again, with his favorite den siblings there. of course he'd take Blurr and Blackarachnia along, it wouldn't be right without the people he would have as his Amicae. Blackarachnia scoffs, but her spark isn't in it. Blurr freezes, anxiety already trying to convince him that he wasn't included in that statement. but Predaking just keeps talking, gently stitching together a future where they're okay.
on a practical level this is more of a proposal than simply asking them out, but it's also low pressure. nothing needs to change until they're all comfortable with it. they're already life partners in many ways, it's easy to slip a little further into it once acknowledged. the day Blurr's feeling of exclusion ends for good is when Blackarachnia casually muses about opening a clinic on Velocitron so the three of them can have a home on Blurr's planet, and he's struck by how she's doing good enough to plan for the future again, specifically a future where they even leave Cybertron to follow him.
their marriage is quiet. Blurr squares away the paperwork, double checking every detail is correct with Minimus. they let their friends take them out to a nice dinner in lieu of any ceremony, where Arcee generously only tries stabbing Blackarachnia once before giving her congratulations. Frenzy tries arranging a gag honeymoon trip for them but is too drunk to do it right and accidentally books himself a week at the spa instead. Hot Rod brings fireworks, which would have been a nice touch if he'd known he was coming to a wedding, but really he just wanted a party where he'd have the opportunity to set off colorful explosions around large numbers of people. Wheelie may have picked the pockets of everyone in attendance but he refuses to admit it. Skywarp and Predaking are the last ones who haven't swanned off or fallen asleep and in their exhausted drunken camaraderie, when bad ideas seem just brilliant, they end up going on a time travel heist to get Predaking some sick tattoos (and they're lucky it goes off without a hitch).
it's an absolutely perfect wedding.
it's not a flawless happily ever after, of course. Predaking grapples with being the only survivor of dozens of tragedies. Blackarachnia is permanently changed by a monster, and struggles with alcoholism for a long time. Blurr is personally targeted by a terrifying creature with a grudge and enough wit to outsmart him, in a rivalry that would cost many more lives than just his own. it's hard, and they live in dark times. but they support one another through thick and thin. after awhile, when they're more stable, they actually end up adopting Dragonicus, a little dragonformer like Predaking, and then later Lightspeed, a tiny thing almost as fast as Blurr.
they live. they love each other. they're good.

I’m new to the LU fandom, I really love the series but I’m kinda confused about the whole link/link shippings. It’s not something I have a real issue with as long as the links in question aren’t related by blood or anything, but I’m really confused how the ships came to be????
Wildlight especially because yes, there’s definitely chemistry and a deep bond between them, but I’ve never thought about their relationship going beyond that and into sexual????
I always kinda felt like they’d be queer-platonic, like, they’re so close their relationship can’t be defined as purely platonic but it’s not sexual. There’s a lot of love and affection but it doesn’t fall neatly into romantic either?
They’re just. Two people who really care about each other and want to enjoy their time together while it lasts to the fullest and just. Experience life with the other by their side.
Mostly I just feel really confused and like I’m lacking a lot of information. I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense or seems rude, I just don’t understand in general, and thought maybe you could provide some insight???
So I, for example, don't like mango. Some people love mango but and think apples are boring, and I would clutch my pearls about that and go on a 40 minute tirade about how apples are the shit. The same can be said for shipping. When it comes to ships, both with regard to types of ships and pairings, a lot of it comes down to personal preference. It's as simple as that.
That's the main idea here, anon. There's not any information you're missing. The rest is under the cut for specifics about Wildlight and other Linkships.
No matter how you ship Wild and Twilight, with even the various flavors of queerplatonic or simple friendship being considered "shipping" of sorts for the purposes of this conversation, as you said: it's obvious that the two of them have chemistry. They have history together. They look to one another when Time says cryptic shit like two siblings wondering if that lore drop from dad was true or not. Twilight scolds Wild for getting himself injured in defense of Wind and Wild doesn't hesitate to give it back to him a bit. In the most recent arc, while everyone on the team is affected by Twilight's injury in one way or another, Wild is the one who loses his mind a bit over the whole thing. Their bond runs deep.
Like you, there is a huge group of fans who look at that relationship and enjoy that flavor of queerplatonic rep. They choose to ship Wild and Twilight in that way, and that's cool. But some of us look at the same relationship and prefer to explore the spicier side of things under the same context, and that's cool too. There was recently a text post I reblogged that went something long the lines of fic writers "using preestablished relationships to give sex [in their works] emotional context." Without having to write thousands of words of backstory to get two people together, sometimes we as fic writers lean on the source material to establish the soft stuff so we can get right into the more hardcore fare. It's a fun little thought experiment to consider how two characters like Twi and Wild who have such obvious caring for one another in canon might engage with one another behind the scenes.
The same can be said for characters who don't seem to have a whole ton of on-screen chemistry, as it were. Sky is very obviously in love with his Zelda, and that's part of the reason why he was the focus of the poly!Sky series. Because yes, SS Zelink is adorable, but what if Sky wasn't limited to that relationship alone? How would his relationships look like with Twilight, with Warriors, with Time? For me, it's a fun exploration and skill-development exercise to write believable romantic and/or sexual relationships that you wouldn't expect in-universe, especially since they firmly aren't established in the source material.
I, for one, also enjoy exploring both healthy and unhealthy sexual relationships through fiction. By far, my favorite kind of couple to write has to be the train wreck: those who bring out the worst in one another and have incendiary chemistry in the bedroom. HSH WarrTime falls into this category, and Twilight/Dark does too in a different sense. It's that journey from "Omg this would NEVER work" to "Dark has one person and one person only he will behave for" that never fails to hook me.
In the end, it boils down to the same reason why most restaurants have such a diverse menu. Some people prefer one flavor of cooked-up relationships, others may prefer another. Some of us change tastes depending on the day. And maybe in relationships that you personally don't see romance or a sexual connection, to someone else it looks plain as day.
And that's all totally okay.

🍄🍦☁️ <3
Hi sweets, this only took me ages to get to, but, alas.
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
Oh boy, oh hmm. I've already mentioned my firm headcanon that Mashwood exchange earrings instead of wedding bands as more just-them moment of intimacy (and also rings can be pain in the ass with their gun toting lifestyle) in all my stories. So, what else?
That Meryl definitely writes a book that is honest, painful retelling of the truth. The tv show in some versions is all good and well, but I don't think it goes down the way she wants, the way it should. And Vash is so raw still. So, eventually, I think she writes his story proper. Makes sure Wolfwood isn't lost to history as just one of countless deaths in wake of Stampede's path. (Even if they're not romantically involved themselves. He is still important person to Vash, to her in platonic and without-him-Vash-wouldn't-be-here in a way.)
🍦 ⇢ name three good things about a character you hate
First, I had to bring council together and remember what character I hate with burning passion. I don't dwell on that as much as ones I love.
Anyway, Kenjaku of JJK. He's kind of the reason Choso Kamo exists and I'll give him that. [insert essay about a person who has been told they have no real access to humanity, and yet they have so much of it and are so full of love that he creates the concept out of thin air and pain he's been inflicted]. And that's why he's also contributed to existence of Chosoyuki, which is truly an excellent pairing and they're living happily ever after, far away from sorcerer society, except for the fact Choso hangs out with his brother all the time.
And for the third, uh, genderfluid royalty.
☁️ ⇢ what made you choose your username?
For pretty much all of my internet life, I've been SadRain or some variation of that (Funfact: Imber is a word for rain in Latin AND wordplay on amber which is one of our national riches, to me). Unfortunately, that url is taken on Tumblr and my first url was dreamofdusk. But once I got more involved in my fandom, at the time it was... Quite uncool to have not-fandom usernames. So, I wracked my brain and came up with one that basically encaspulated some of my favorite characters/otps at the time: Han Solo, Captain Hook of OUAT and, well, just general vibe of characters I do enjoy. So, I made this my username. It has been my name for so long that I don't wanna go through hassle of relinking everything, literally impossible, and I've not found a new, not taken URl to move to, even though I don't really vibe with this as deeply anymore.

We’re happy together.
A crown is not a very easy thing to wear, to be honest.
It’s heavy, and it’s awkward, and it never really sits right on your head. It means that people look at you, and talk about you, and try to use you to get what they want. It means that you have to make speeches on TV, and live in a great big palace, and try not to tear your hair out at the endless stupidity of every godforsaken consul and advisor and High Councillor.
And, worst of all, it means he can’t ever be with you.
People have talked about him since the day he was born. It was to be expected. The only son of Queen-Imperial Sofia, the humanborn woman who rescued the Imperium from the collapse of Emile’s line, who in the most terrifying time of chaos in living memory found clarity. Strength. The foundations of a new age. A heroine of the people, an iron fist in a velvet glove. Turning outwards, ever outwards, from the son she should have loved to the people she claimed to.
What do you do when your mother’s a fairy tale? Pencil drawings can’t kiss you goodnight.
Since before he can even remember, there have been eyes upon him. Upon his face, upon his fate, upon the future of a world that by all known logic should have faltered and died decades ago. The Imperium is his by blood, by right, by determination. If he’s going to be a good king, a great king - and he is, make no mistake - then he might as well give them something to watch.
(That’s you, by the way. They’re watching you. Smile.)
How had you even met? He’s not sure. It’s hazy, the way that memories from when you’re very young tend to be. No matter who you ask, it’s always different - although, to be perfectly honest, it’s not like it actually matters. Semantics. These aren’t the sorts of things they write in history books. You’re here now, aren’t you? Good. Then the matter’s settled.
It is a funny story, though, don’t you think? A little boy with a heart made of sand, dry and coarse and crumbling, falling through his fingers and scraping against his skin. The smell of salt and the rush of the ocean washing over him, soaking through him. Bucket and spade in hand, a sunny afternoon becomes a beautiful palace, covered in shells and pretty stones, and the big round moat is scooped out with two pairs of hands.
How on earth had you managed it? Tumbling into his life, turning his head, teaching him all the things that he’d never thought to learn. One minute you’re his best friend, sitting on a gilded swingset in an ornamental garden. The next, you’re all grown up, framed in the mirrors on the ballroom wall, and he has to fight not to melt his cufflinks at the sight of you dancing with another man.
A sandy, empty soul, covered in grit and salt and seaweed - his palms flare with fire as the breath catches in his chest when you walk by, as the butterflies settle in his stomach when you hold out your hand for him to kiss. Hotter and hotter, until it’s molten glass dripping down his wrists, vitrifying right in front of his eyes. Sparking and glowing with passion, scorching little trails up his sleeves, a hissing chorus of mine mine mine in the furnace of his ribs.
It’s you. It’s always been you. Cool water running through a scalding heart, steam filling his aching lungs until it’s all he knows how to breathe.
Maybe it was all his mistake. It’s possible, you know. Maybe he’d given you too much, too quickly. Maybe he’d overdone it just a bit. Unempowered people can be unstable, unpredictable, reckless - and despite what he’d thought, it turns out you’re no different.
Was it inevitable? Was there anything, was there ever anything he could have done to stop things turning out this way? He isn’t sure. Ever since you two were little, you’ve never been one to keep your mouth shut. The lessons never stuck. Justice is a tricky business, but it helps to have a crown prince on your side - that is, until a coronation changes everything, and you’re both in over your newly-crowned heads.
You’ve always been good at games, no matter the rules. They’ve always said he’s the one with the sharp tongue. Yours, it seems, is made of silver.
Moonlight in your mouth, he’d thought he could save you. The isolations, the therapy, the sessions he wasn’t allowed to know about. You wouldn’t stop talking. The plausible deniability. You wouldn’t stop looking. The gentle hand under your chin gets hotter, harsher, until molten metal spills out over your lips and pours down your throat, coating your teeth and searing the roof of your mouth, but even now you still don’t stop.
It’s unfortunate. What’s the phrase? Morbid curiosity, maybe. You, wanting to see how far you could push before it all came crashing down on your head. Him, wanting to see just how you’d look when, one way or another, you finally broke. Can you really be a martyr if nobody even knows you were alive in the first place?
Stacks of paper crumble into ash, bridges burning in your wake. Justice isn’t blind, and the walls have ears. This isn’t the sort of court you were made for.
There have always been some rather… antiquated Imperial traditions, it’s true. Some are nicer than others, but most have stood the test of time. Old habits, old ways that he’s never really seen the point in arguing with. It would be more trouble than it’s worth, to waste time trying to get rid of them.
One of those traditions is that, depending on the magical race of the Monarch-Imperial, the practices of the Imperial government are changed accordingly. Most of the time it’s little things, like the embossments on the paper or the colour of the accents on the curtains. Insignificant. Inconsequential. What’s that saying again? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Ah, traditions. Watching them light the kindling at your feet, he’s starting to think that maybe he should have fixed this one.
(It could have been worse. Imagine if he’d been a shifter.)
It’s fine. You’re fine. Fire has always been kind to you, hasn’t it? Well. He’s always been kind to you, and as far as anyone here is concerned, that’s the same thing. That’s what this is, then. Kindness. Benevolence, of the sort he thinks you’d be proud of. The suffering of one for the good of many - and you’ve always been the type to take everyone’s burdens on yourself. You must have known. Wasn’t this what you wanted?
You won’t struggle, will you? No? Good. It will all be over soon.
A glass heart, cold and hard and utterly bulletproof. Perhaps you were right. Perhaps he really is too possessive. What does it matter now? Allow him this, just once more. Flames bite at the soles of your shoes, but you don’t say anything. You’d better be quick. You don’t have long. Looking at him, you’re looking at him, but not like everyone else does. They look, but you see. The boy he was, the man he’s become. What do you see now?
You’re mine, and I’m yours, and nothing in this world is going to change that.
No more second chances. Ashes to ashes and all that. You have always, always been his. What a shame, that this is how you choose to prove it. The element of his control, and the one thing he could never master. How poetic. Hotter and hotter - through the smoke, silver starts to melt, bubbling over cracked, blistering skin.
In all the shapes and forms that you take in my life.
The ultimate act of surrender. Glass bubbles in your blood - the smell of salt, the sound of the ocean, and a lovely sandcastle covered in shells. In life, you gave yourself to fire. One way or another, you were always destined to burn.
take a trip to the other side of the mirror?

Hello, and thank you for addressing Nancy not understanding Robin! And also being frustrated with BG ro//ance in steddie fics because like. While I initially didn't really care about the ship, (like, whatever, ship and let ship. I could mostly ignore it) I started to resent it when it was presented as just a given. Like no addressing anything in it (and I get it that it's a steddie fic but still if you're going to throw his ex and bff together I'd say it warrants some comment? Just oof. Annoying) Or if Robin ditches Steve for Nancy, or when it was a non issue when no?? (I guess it always boils down to diminishing stobin's relationship)
I've only seen a couple fics that address the issues with ro//ance both for Steve and for Robin and in them they aren't an endgame couple. Like, if ppl just wanted to pair Robin off with someone Vickie is right there and actually likes Robin without Robin having to reassure her that she's for sure not dating Steve or wondering if her company is actually wanted (only if Vickie liked girls)
For me it really depends on the role Nancy plays in the fics and Steve's life. Like. If she's involved with his romantic life as an actively "trying to help" with opinions on it or god forbid clocking him before he comes out to her and acting like it's no big deal I'm done, but if she's just blink and you'll miss it then maybe. But I'll still be annoyed. (This sounds like I hate her but I really don't I just hate how both her and Robin's character don't make sense as romantic relationship with each other)
hi!
yeah, even before s4 and r//nance got really big, i didn’t really like it much. i kinda left it alone then, because it was just really small and easy to ignore, but the ship has always rubbed me the wrong way. and then the ‘fruity four’ got big and suddenly r//nance was impossible to escape. and i think when a ship you don’t like is everywhere, it kinda makes you hate it more lmao.
and yeah, r//nance just isn’t the kind of ship you can just insert into fics with no explanation because it just doesn’t mesh well with the characters and their current development. sometimes people shove in a ‘oh steve didn’t mean what he said to nancy and he’s totally embarrassed!’ and it’s like… okay. sure, you can get steddie together with that, but not r//nance. because even without steve’s love confession, stancy have too much history for nancy to just date his best friend without a word between them. stobin is just better than any romantic ship, and to try to shove nancy between them is wrong.
(honestly, sometimes if r//nance is just like a throwaway line in an otherwise great fic, i just pretend they said vickie lmao)
i can’t stand fics that have nancy just immediately be close friends with eddie, robin and steve, and she like injects herself into steddie, and it’s just accepted as totally normal. that is Not nancy! and yeah, i don’t hate nancy, but if you want her to be that kind of person, you have to develop her into that kind of person, because that just isn’t her in canon.

You ever passed through that situation where you want to make a history about a fandom you like, but there's also those fandoms you saw some clips of and got interested, but never actually saw? Well, I get frequently thorn over whether or not to do fanfics about them... Is it better to just do those you bothered watching/reading about?
Well, that comes down to you and the level of accuracy you want. The joy of fanficion is that you can go and write whatever you want. You can change up a character's personality and choices, you can write a crack pairing of character who may never even get together romantically or don't even exist in the same medium, you can dismiss the existing world of that medium and do your own thing, rewrite the lore, do canon divergences. Fanfiction is yours to play with.
So, I'm of the opinion you don't need to really see/read that content to write fics about it. The only big drawback is that you won't have all the knowledge/details of what you're writing about. But that depends on if you care to have those details or if what you're writing even matters if it's going to be accurate to the medium. And depending on what it is, you may not have to, you just need the basics. Like, every LoZ game is a stand alone really, and not a lot of the games connect, if you want to do an original adventure with a LoZ fic, just craft your own story and your own setting, it doesn't even have to be Hyrule as Link doesn't always adventure in Hyrule. All you'd need is just the small details to help it fit, like have bokoblins show up as enemies, you could mention the Triforce, and defeating evil.
I would vote getting into that medium if you want to write for it just so you have the basics of the world and characters down and could allow you to play around with the medium; but that is me personally as I like having those details to know and work with.
But if that doesn't matter for what you're writing, then you don't need to do so. It really all comes down to what you're writing and how true to the medium you want to be.

I think Kingdom Hearts fandom is going through a “renaissance” into bad behaviors I haven’t seen in a while.
Kingdom Hearts shipping toxicity usually increases the longer we lack canon content. That’s not entirely unique to KH. Fandoms tend to spin their gears during downtime between installments, and a lot of that gear-spinning is shipping. But. Like. Kingdom Hearts shipping is so toxic, I’m slipping under.
I put this under a read more for length. And also a sprinkle of vent. Ship names are censored to keep this out of their tags.
Prologue
This is not meant to bash on any ship. It is simply chronicling what I saw in the past and now, and drawing a line between them.
Regarding S0wwiku and S0k@i- I’m not trying to bash S0wwiku as a concept. It actually makes more sense to me than S0k@i, which smacks of someone behind the scenes forcing the characters together. I might even ship Sowwiku openly, if not for the bad behavior outlined here.
Regarding akuw0ku- That ship is my nOTP for reasons that will become apparent in this rant. If you ship it, I mean no ill-will towards you. But I personally can’t stomach it.
A Brief Prehistory
To understand what I’m seeing, we need to explore how we got there. The real birth of the mega-toxic shipping culture was back around Kingdom Hearts 2. There was a fandom around the original game and COM era, but from what I’ve seen, it wasn’t as noxious as it was today with the shipping. I’ve seen S0ka! and S0wwiku (which is my new censored spelling you’ve gotta deal with). But not much else.
The reason is simple and clean- there wasn’t much else to talk about. The game only added four original characters (Sora, Riku, Kairi, and Ansem SOD, the last of whom was ignored when Riku wasn’t in the room). The introduction of the original Organization XIII was the spark for the toxic fandom of the mid-to-late 2000s.
I’m not 100% sure on the history for the CoM era, but it wasn’t long. There were only about 1-2 years (depending on your country) between CoM and KHII. That’s just enough time to get bored with speculating on the purpose of the Organization before you’re introduced to the whole boy band.
There were four years between KHII and 358/2 Days. Four years. Of basically nothing (remasters don’t count, and Coded was Japan-exclusive at the time). Armed with tons of pretty guys and free time, the bad seeds were able to sprout.
Ship wars. Character bashing. Creepy behaviors.
The Living Nightmare
I once knew this girl in real life who shipped akuw0ku religiously. Once, I went to a cosplay party dressed (sort of) as Roxas. She was there with a roll of duct tape. She chased me and tried to tie me up with duct-tape (she didn’t). But the thing that sticks the most with me is she didn’t call me by name while she did this.
She called me Roxas.
Most people were not as loose with their behavior in real life as her. But they were all over Internet spaces. Where- unrestrained by real life- they spit out the most toxic garbage you’ve ever seen. Age might have been a factor in this era. A lot of what went down could only be accomplished by bored teenagers. But the absolute deluge of horror was something I haven’t seen before or since.
The ship bashing and the insistence on pairings being canon was at an all-time high. “Evidence” was often based on purposefully mistranslated or false info. I believe the lie that Nomura insisted there were no romantic pairings in the series was created as an attempt at damage control. But there was just no stopping it.
“Consoled” by the “evidence”, people felt free to write OOC garbage using the seme/uke dynamic. Once the seme and uke positions were set, the characters could not leave them. Any person who attempted to criticize any of this was dogpiled. If they were targeting a gay ship- and they often were- they were instantly labeled as homophobic regardless of explanation.
Some people were. Make no mistake. But a lot of people weren’t. Some people (i.e.- me) were new to fandom and didn’t understand slash shipping as a concept. I said things that probably were homophobic without understanding (I was 14-ish). I probably shouldn’t have said those things. But every conversation eventually became a fight for my life. After a single rebuttal, I was always personally attacked. No-one noticed I was a fresh fish in the pond. No-one tried to explain to me.
“Don’t like don’t look” wasn’t used as good fandom advice or for safety. It was used as a weapon. This is why it took my years to accept it as valid advice.
The female characters got a lot less “love” than their male counterparts. When Xion was revealed, fans attacked her for the crimes of being a woman and “cockblocking” akuw0ku. All they had at the time was a picture and a name. Kairi faced such terrible abuse that there was legitimately a fic called “The Horrible Bloody Death of Kairi”, where Sora and Riku actually kill her.
The reason was all down to shipping. Kairi/Xion existed to threaten or “de-canonize” the gay ships. So it was best if they didn’t exist at all.
I know Kairi- amongst most of the female cast- is poorly written. But the animal behavior of these people was still excessive. It wasn’t merely disliking a character. It was wanting them to suffer to the point of obsession. Never mind how their fans might feel about this behavior. I wonder if anyone who liked Kairi read or was messaged that wretched fic...
Shippers of this type were- in some places- a very vocal minority. But they ruled the roost. The rules were simple. The ship was law. What ship didn’t matter- it depended on what corner of the Internet you were in. The roles were set. The puppets played their parts. Move the puppets, object to the group, and you were incinerated like Vexen.
A Brief Dark Age
This nonsense continued through 358/2 Days up until around Dream Drop Distance. In 2012, it petered out. But from KHII to 3D, we got three games. 358/2 Days, Birth by Sleep, and 3D itself. But no properly numbered titles. No major releases.
358/2 Days/BBS was just enough of a drip-feed to keep the fandom beast alive, without really progressing Sora’s story. Terra and Ventus formed a new couple, but Aqua wasn’t as poorly treated as Kairi/Xion. People were maturing. Nature was healing. Once Sora’s story creaked forward with 3D, it came with tons of new lore to talk about. To obsess over. To focus on.
Something outside of shipping.
And then the dark age came. Not counting Re:Coded, we didn’t get a new game until 2019. I haven’t really monitored the fandom during this time. But they seemed to grow up a bit. With Kingdom Hearts 3, new ships- like Axel and Isa- rose up. But they never became cults. Seme/uke roles were lessened. Not gone, if they already existed. But definitely weaker.
We might be able to move on. Or so it seemed.
And Yet You Understand Nothing
We are in a new dark age. Sora’s story hasn’t progressed since 2019. We’ve gotten prequel upon mobile game. But time has yet to move forward. The last time I saw people get super excited was with the end of Union X. Dark Road also brought some chatter. But since Dark Road ended, we’ve just been waiting for KH4. It has no release date- just windows that will be moved several time. You know the game.
In the void, there’s nothing to talk about. Nothing but the old fallback. Nothing but shipping.
I’ve seen a return of the canon-grubbing cult. With nothing else to talk about but old content and shipping, it was only natural. Especially regarding S0wwiku.
Sora’s tag is about 95% S0wwiku right now. People in that tag want it canon so damn bad that they draw false conclusions, and bash female characters or rob them of their accomplishments. It’s the old game in a new era.
Some people- from what I understand- place their own experiences onto the characters. Which is fine. Okay. I get that. But the drive to be canon- to be right- is coming back in full force. I fear we could go back.
Ship wars. Character bashing. Creepy behaviors.
We can pretend we grew up, but these elements never really left us. In the void without new content, desperate for something to do, we cling to darkness. And darkness is the heart’s true essence...
Kingdom Hearts is Light- Advice for New Fans
I want to end this ramble with things I wish someone would have told me. If the evil really isn’t defeated, people will jump in blind. I want them to have a better, safer fandom experience than I did.
Gay ships are okay. They are someone else’s interpretation of the characters. They are allowed to have that opinion. You are not homophobic/a monster for not liking the ship, or having a different opinion.
If you don’t like something, don’t look at it. That’s not an attack. That’s for your safety. Click the back button. Close the tab. Block the person.
Your hatred of a ship or type of content will not make it disappear. Your comment will never make content you don’t like get deleted. Attacking the author of a fic with a pairing you hate will do nothing but hurt someone’s feelings.
Blocking is not cowardly. The block function exists to protect you. If a conversation is going south, or morphs into a personal attack, block them.
If you have a ship you really like, it doesn’t have to be “canon” or “right”. If the ship-cult is trying to insist that it is, be wary (they could be exaggerating in light-hearted fun). If they attack people with other opinions, cut ties or block.
A ship is not more important than other people’s feelings. Don’t attack people who ship something you don’t like. Don’t retaliate when people tell you to ship something you hate. Block them. On sight.
If you don’t like a character, think of their fans. There is a way to say you don’t like a character other than writing fics of that character being brutally murdered.
On Tumblr, keep character or ship rebuttals out of their tag. Censor ship names or character names. This isn’t an “unalive” situation where using the full word is important.
Never, ever, ever bring the conversation out of the fandom and into personal attacks. For example, if someone says “I don’t like this ship”, your response shouldn’t be “kill yourself” or “you’re a bad person”. Your response should be ignoring them (if they are non-aggressive) or blocking them (if they are).
I’m going to make this section its own post, because I feel like it’s so important. We always believe that fans are seasoned veterans. We never account for people who just left the islands and are starting their adventure. It would be wrong to post this without addressing the facet of this issue that led it to scar me.

I've seen your posts about Kali x Steve pairing and I'm not against the idea, but I'm having a hard time comprehending what exactly would make them fall for each other. Steve's not a lab kid like she is, so he's not in a position to understand her struggles as well as others could (unless there's something about that regarding him yet to the revealed on the show). Do you have any ideas on the foundations that any potential relationship of theirs might have? Parental issues? Leadership pressure? Looking for a peaceful life?
Also Eleven almost certainly is more experienced in relationships due to her being with Mike, and I can't get the image out of my head of Kali going to her asking for tips. The idea of the older sibling asking the younger sibling for romance advice really cracks me up and feels super sweet.
Anon, I love this message. Thank you for giving me an excuse to think about Them.
I tend to see it as Steve basically falling in infatuation at first sight without even knowing who she is, and shooting his shot with his affable doofus charm. She is unimpressed at first (though secretly attracted to him) and she always makes sure to keep a straight face even when she finds his silly jokes funny, cause even though she has stopped murdering people and is trying to be a better person, any show of interest is vulnerability to her and vulnerability is off limits.
She would be very standoff-ish for awhile with him. Finding out she's El's sister, and about her history, would only make him fall for her even harder. The depths of her rage would scare him sometimes, but ultimately he would love her strength and conviction. The longer she stays in Hawkins, the more she is entranced by the way he takes care of all the kids, how maternal he is. She only has a few blurry memories of her own parents from before she was taken, and watching him with them always brings them back stronger than ever. On Kali’s side, it would be a slow burn. She didn’t trust anyone when she first arrived in Hawkins, even El, but Steve wins her over without her realizing it is happening. He would accept pretty quickly that she doesn’t seem to reciprocate his feelings and he would happily be her friend while pining away, just like he did with Nancy. It would take a long time, but she would be the one to initiate the first kiss.
The thing I see that connects them is they share a desire for a calm stable home life. It's canon for Steve that a loving family is his priority. I think for Kali, the fact that her life after the lab essentially became her collecting her own found family and being their self-appointed caretaker indicates a real yearning for connection & intimacy she can't find through vengeance.
When it comes to Steve not understanding her past, I don't think that's necessary. As much as I love a little shared trauma, I feel like that's not something either Steve or Kali needs in a relationship. They are both people who need a fresh start–someone who meets them where they're at, instead of being bogged down by whoever they were in the past. For Kali in particular, I think what she needs most is someone who will listen, believe & validate the depth of her trauma, and do their best to comfort her in every possible way. And I think Steve would not only want to be that person, but he would be really good at it.
I think it would be years down the line before Kali would become a person who would even be willing to go to anyone for advice, but I agree that her asking El for help in planning the perfect anniversary date or something would be amazing. She would be so out of her depth, especially because Steve is such a romantic he would always be doing little and big things for her and she probably would feel like she needs to match his gestures in some way (even though he doesn't need that at all).

First Book Of The School For Good And Evil Series Spoilers
I need to calm my nerves.
Right. I just finished reading the first book and all I have to say is what the ever living fuck?
I cannot tell you how upset this book made me, I almost cried in some parts I was so frustrated.
I'm just so confused, why the hell would you queer-code Agatha so much to the point where, I was convinced that she was a canon lesbian, but then make a fall in love with a prince. Not only just a prince, but a sexist and misogynistic prince. A prince that was literally bullying her for the entire book up until the point where she miraculously finds her self-confidence and starts to change appearance to a more acceptable and palatable way.
I am flabbergasted, I am shocked and I threw this book as hard as I could across the room because of how pissed I was.
I cannot tell you how pissed off certain parts made me.
What makes me even more annoyed is that I know that Agatha and Sophie are for some god awful plot reason made out to be sisters.
What the fuck?! WHY? Why? Why would you do that? Obviously it's probably for the overarching story but I don't give a fuck.
Why would you do that? this character is so obviously queer coded like I can't even lie, I can directly quote from the book supporting this:
"Here in this safe, secluded world, the two of them would make their own paradise"
"Agatha gagged. Who could ever love boys?"
"She grabbed her shorn hair and flaccid robes. 'I'm- I'm-'
'Still a princess.'
Sophie looked at her. 'And the only we'll get home,' said Agatha, forcing a small smile. 'So we have to make this kiss happen.'
'We?' said Sophie.
'We," rasped Agatha.
Sophie hugged her tight
'We're going home, Aggie' "
"Agatha met Sophie's lucid, beautiful eyes."
" Agatha scowled. 'That's not my fault.' 'I think it's because deep down you don't want me to find love, Agatha,' Sophie said, voice calm.
'What? Of cour-'
'I think you want to keep me for yourself '
Agatha's whole body went rigid."
"She broke into a run and charged towards torture and death, wishing that someday she and Sophie would find each other in a different world, a world without princess, a world without pain......."
It doesn't even stop there.
There's a whole part where Sophie dances with her, in her evil form (this is really important and I'll tell you why later), to fucking love music.
Don't even get me started on Sophie sacrificing her life for Agatha and then Agatha bring her back to life with a true loves kiss, she revives her with a true loves kiss?????? EXPLAIN.
Now. Rage aside, let me get onto the more put together part of this post.
I want to pay attention to the whole running thing the book has that evil and the school for evil students have with how "shameful" and "disgusting" and "unnatural" it is when they love someone.
Do you know what that sounds like to me? It very much sounds like the type of things said and thought about queer people throughout history.
A lot of the evil students have loved and they were told it's shameful and wrong.
Not to mention multiple characters drawing the conclusion different=evil.
(This could also be seen in multiple different ways and I really wanna get into that at some point in time but this is not what this post is about and I've already typed a lot.)
So let me go back to Sophie being her in her 'true evil form' when she dances with Agatha.
This is important as it can so easily represent queerness. Going back to the fact that in this book, looking 'ugly' and 'disgusting' is paired with being evil, it kind of feels strange that Sophie and Agatha dancing together in a ballroom-type setting, with romantic music in the background, and Sophie leading the dance, filling in the 'male' role, while looking ugly and 'evil' . Sophie even initiates the dance, sinking to one knee and holding out her hand for Agatha to take, like what the princes do.
I'm just really frustrated that the sisters storyline and the true love bullshit between Agatha and Tedros is the direction this series is taking.
That Agatha is loosing her ability to call out the flawed way the whole system works and eventually even just ignores the blatant sexism and misogynistic views ingrained into everyone.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
And before anyone crucifies me and calls me a proshipper, I do not support incest and I don't ship Agatha and Sophie anymore because they are sisters. Even if it was a bullshit, unnecessary plot point pulled out of Chainani's creative asshole near the end of the series because god, what will we ever do if queer people, sapphics specifically, get actual good representation for once????!!!! I'm just confused why you go through all the trouble and effort of writing their relationship and other queer coded relationships in the series like that if you're just going to make them straight anyway?
What's the point.
And don't even get me started on the movie, that whole thing was just one big backhand to the face. The fact that they made the actors for Sophie and Agatha kiss fully on the lips in a dramatic climatic moment, with music and everything?
Also the casual fucking antisemitism in Sophie's transformation?
