well. this took longer than i thought it was going to. have a silly little comic about martyn and doc!

#galaxyofart #inthelittlewood #itlwart #some notes about the designs:#martyn's design is a simplified version of what it is supposed to be #because i appreciate my wrist thank you #that and drawing it as detailed as it is supposed to be looks weird with my artstyle being pretty simple #the golden cracks are scars! they're inspired by kintsugi and i love how they look so they are staying for my vtuber martyn art #now with doc. i ended up giving him a different outfit than the one we've been shown of him #mostly because i rewatched the little lore video like some idk five times and i still didn't quite understand what the fuck doc was even-#-wearing? so i decided to change it into something that made more sense to my brain #also also #i know that the overlap between ''watches gebsart'' and ''trafficblr'' is probably just me #but drawing doc felt like just drawing gebs without the mask #i think it's mostly the hair and glasses #so. if i ever draw doc without the glasses and make his eyes green it's a gebs reference!#but also that would work too even if it wasn't a joke about gebs? like. if martyn is mostly green with blue eyes (doc's color or at least-#-it is in my art) then it makes sense that doc would be mostly blue with green eyes #so having the other's color in their eyes would be a nice way to show that they are connected to each other?#okay now im done with rambling on the tags #okay no one last thing #with the FL reference. i want to make stuff about martyn in the neath now #he would be a nemesis ambition person i think #but im biased because that's my ambition too-#OKAY NOW IM DONE

Reconciliation

Old dome squadmates Trito and Kinoga get together at Trito’s place to catch up after years apart and a meeting by chance on the surface.

For the lore, includes stuff from splatoon Octo Expansion: Trito and Kinoga were a part of an octarian military squad living in the domes, Kinoga being their squad leader that many looked up to and admired. There were 6 of them who considered each other to be their closest friends. Upon hearing about the tests from Kamabo Co. and the allure of the Promised Land, Kinoga wished to seek it out in order to find a better life for their squadmates. A difficult decision, since it meant leaving them all behind, promising to come back and take them there.

Kinoga enters the metro trials and soon realizes that the Promised Land isn’t what they expected, their hope crumbling when they encounter one of their sanitized squadmates Agara, who followed suit to the metros soon after. Kinoga narrowly escapes, eventually making a break for the surface, carrying the shame of unwilling to return for their squadmates with them (it’s justified, of course, there might not be an easy way in, they might get caught again, Agara is gone)

Trito enters the Metro not too long after Kinoga does, wanting to catch up to them, and an accident that occurs in a test early on results in Trito’s near sanitization, giving him his scar. Terrified, and realizing what happens to his fellow octolings, Trito is unable to return to his squadmates, not wanting to break the news of their loved ones’ untimely fates. He hides away on the Metro until the events of OE happen and Agent 8 dismantles Kamabo, opening an opportunity to escape to the surface. Unwilling to face the possibilities of going back, Trito takes his chance to leave, starting a new life and feeling that it’s for the best if he doesn’t acknowledge it, though he missed his friends dearly.

Years later, Trito and Kinoga run into each other on the streets of Splatsville by chance, and the implications of them both being on the surface and alive hit them, having to carry the burden of leaving their loved ones behind and finding out the truth, knowing the other felt exactly the same, not knowing the fate of their squadmates and not wanting to think about the possibility of them being gone. They have a tearful reunion about it, and set up a meet later, to sit down and really talk, and get into a brief argument when the topic of returning to the domes comes up. Trito’s in disbelief that Kinoga never went back down to check on the rest of their squad, wanting them to have been a better person than him, who was too cowardly to do so. Eventually they do reconcile, and end up at Trito’s place to hook up, where the above comic takes place :]

Yet infuriatingly - it is worth it.#I am far from done with healing. I've barely scratched the surface.#but im learning and connecting with myself along the way.#The biggest step I've taken this year is working on my people pleasing ways. it's a bad habit birthed from a lot of different traumas.#but it no longer rules my life.#I am not passive anymore - and surprise! that doesn't make me a horrible or evil person.#my kindness is no longer a weakness. its still a part of me and always will be. i won't let go of it.#but it is no longer to a fault #there are people undeserving of my kindness... i realize that now. I know what i will and will not put up with in every kind of relationshi #im still learning and exploring - and i've said a lot of goodbyes this year. I'm sure i will say more.#but that's okay.#some relationships are forever - some serve you for a while and teach you a lesson when they end.#and some relationships stick around and don't *have* to have a deeper connection #and that's also okay.#I didn't think I'd make it through this year in all honesty. "I think I saved myself by saving you" by @not-so-mundane-after-all was actually my first tlou fic that I read! it's a sickfic where Ellie gets sick before leaving Jackson

"violent heart" by @timelesslords is another good one! it's ep8 aftercare, but with aspects from the game and the show. she also has one from Joel's perspective called "never let you down again"

"never let me down again" by tayyys (I'm not sure what their tumblr is) is a good one! it's a rewrite of ep6 and on, where Ellie leaves after having overheard Tommy and Joel's conversation

"miller lite" by captainredspade (CodeNameArtemis) is also good! this one has a lot of Tommy and Ellie bonding, but it's angst cause Ellie got hurt on a day trip with him

"irreplacable" by captainredspade (CodeNameArtemis) is one where Ellie takes a bite for Tommy and there's more bonding between them

"heaven doesn't want me now" by @lkay-09 is one where Ellie (sort of) gets a choice at the hospital. some of the lines in there are just *chefs kiss*

"triplicate" by @penandinkprincess is a very angsty one where Joel finds Ellie's file at the hospital in Salt Lake!

"glimpses unseen" by flannelfeelings (@boopernatural here :)) is one where we see Tommy's trauma of losing Sarah when Ellie gets hurt outside the walls

I've been thinking about this because of the shitty ads for contemporary YA romance going around and the way books are marketed using an extreme amount of fanfiction tropes and almost nothing else. Like yes tropes ARE a part of literature and can be used to help catalogue books and movies in archives and such but they aren't supposed to be supplements for summaries and plot.

Like if you tell me something is contemporary YA which follows a businesswoman struggling at her job and trying to figure out why she's unhappy slowly getting closer to the local cafe barista when she stops in over the course of the novel and she goes on a journey of self discovery and etc etc that would at least tell me what the book is about. I probably wouldn't read it or like it if I read it because I don't like contemporary YA romance but I at least know what it's about and would be able to recommend it to someone if they were looking for something similar.

But if you took that same book and ONLY told me it was contemporary YA romance, slowburn, and coffee shop, that doesn't really tell me anything about the characters or why I should care. These are original characters I can't just look at ao3 tags and be like "oh yeah I like these characters already I want to see them in this specific scenario" these are original characters and you have to give me a reason to care. When I'm looking for a book to read I'm looking for a book, not a fanfiction for something I already like. If I wanted to read fanfiction I would read it. Publishing fanfiction doesn't not make it fanfiction and describing books exclusively in fanfiction tropes and nothing else does not a good book advertisement make. They are not a replacement for an actual summary, they are a tool that can help quickly identify books in a catalogue or archive if someone is looking for something to read.

This isn't to dunk on fanfiction! I write and read fanfic but it's more akin to the junk food of the literature world. It's good and yummy and can fill in a specific niche in internet communities, but it shouldn't make up your entire literature consumption, yknow?

Also for fucks sake, stop describing classical literature with fanfiction tropes you are doing a severe disservice to them and completely missing the point of literally all those books. If I have to see one more person describe Pride and Prejudice as "enemies to lovers" I will scream.

#shay speaks #bookblr #booktok #using both those tags bc i think this is a discussion that needs to be had #tropes are things in books and same with character archetypes #HOWEVER book tropes and fanfic tropes are not the same thing #books have tropes based on their genres like femme fatale for example #like they're not a wholly bad thing its the oversaturation of them in the market and advertising that i think is the bigger issue #it also feels like when this happens to books the books themselves dont have much of an identity outside of those tropes #bc they feel like they have to fit them instead of taking a chance and breaking them or doing something new with them #its very cookie cutter writing i think (having read several of these books. they're pretty much the same thing slightly reskinned)#also im not saying this is like THE take on tropes if you have different thoughts i'd love to hear them just #be respectful? and i will return it. i think these topics need multiple viewpoints and aren't wholly black and white #okay im done tag rambling now #ok2rb

I hear the word "grave" and think. That Grave. i Will cry if someone makes me go into detail about my thoughts on it again (this is an invitation) On a. slightly more normal note. Wolf to Crow. He's taken up their mantle as the Hero of the City, it's beloved champion and symbol of hope. The two of them are the canaries - when things go wrong, they take the fall. Also consider, for the first line: Red War and graves that couldn't be filled, with bodies that were never found.

But if in the end I lose my voice Will you forget about your love for me?

I just keep thinking about when Forsaken comes and goes, and the Vanguard getting no response from Ghost and Wolf - But also when they're exiled without being given a chance to defend themself. They lost their voice, and their home - their family.

Their Nightmare of the Speaker, in Haunted, taunts them for being unable to speak up for themself and saying they deserve it for thinking they were enough to stand against the Darkness (or even enough at all). They barely stand up to him there, either.

"But I still hold out hope that maybe someday / I'll be worth more than all the silence left in my wake"

My brain keeps defaulting to my own bs, so I'm inflicting it again bc it might as well be the only thing I think about ever: "(...) self-destructing and giving their last, accepting that they could never be understood in life and letting go so that maybe they could be understood in death."

if you don't already know what the deal about canaries is (I have no idea how big of a thing it is), canaries were historically used by coal miners to tell when the oxygen was getting too toxic to be breathable. When the canary got lethargic and stopped singing, the miners knew to get out. hence the "Canary Curse" on the guy who dies first every season. F
