Jiang Cheng had what, 3 months? To gather up rogue cultivators to be his disciples? And yet when we see him with Lan Wangji on their hunt for Wei Wuxian he actually has quite a significant amount
Baby girl was clearly doing something right

Screaming because I just had a random thought of older/sect leader Jin Ling inheriting Zidian from Jiang Cheng and using it in conjunction with his bow to shoot lightning arrows
I didn’t think the use of Zidian could get more chaotic than JC’s ‘whip-everyone-who-slightly-resembles-wei-wuxian’ rampage but now there’s the possibility of a future moody mistress JL running around with his bow literally air frying everyone and everything in his path and idk how to handle this mental imagery without going into cardiac arrest

☔ for the ask game? (idea you're not sure you'll write, if the emoji doesn't come through)
☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?
I kind of dropped out of the MDZS fandom like a rock after finishing my novel-length longfic, and the fic I most regret leaving unwritten is a bullet-point au in which Jiang Fengmian just cannot find his friends' lost son, he gives up, so Wei Wuxian grows up entirely on the streets, scrounging his way to enough cultivation education to invent demonic cultivation (because that's still the kind of person he is), and JFM assuages his conscience a little by inviting a different random clever basically-an-urchin - Meng Yao - into Jiang Sect.
Highlights include:
Meng Yao: wow the obvious fault lines in this family make everyone so easy to manipulate- wait, am I being offered real affection and trust? That's...fine.
Meng Yao trying desperately to hide his background, but he goes to visit his mother when she's ill. Jiang Cheng follows him, because Meng Yao is his best (only) friend, and Jiang Yanli follows Jiang Cheng to make sure he doesn't get in trouble, and then (JYL steps on JC's foot to stop him from saying the first thing that comes to mind) they both react with compassion and sympathy rather than scorn to Meng Shi and her profession. Meng Yao experiences several more Real Emotions.
Teen rogue cultivator Wei Wuxian just kinda. invites himself. to Lan Summer School, on the strength of Cangse Sanren's name. JFM is delighted when he hears, encourages JC to befriend him (Meng Yao: [jealous cat hisses]) and would have invited him home at the end of the summer...if WWX didn't get himself expelled halfway through for punching Jin Zixuan's smug face.
He also crashes Terrible Wen Summer Camp. Gets stuck in a cave with Lan Wangji, etc.
Wei Wuxian has kinda been a Batman-esque vigilante in Yiling (moody, dramatic, clad in black, fights ghosts and also bad guys). When the Wens move in, he shifts to being a more actively anti-authoritarian Batman-esque vigilante. Wen Qing is annoyed. Wen Ning is enamored.
The Wens attack Lotus Pier, because they were always going to attack Lotus Pier next. Jiang Cheng does get his golden core torn out. Wen Ning rescues him, because Wen Ning is always a hero even if Wei Wuxian isn't immediately present. Meng Yao decides it's time to do what he does best...so he promised Jiang Cheng that he'll be back, then goes to the Nightless City and says, "oh golly gee, I, second disciple of Jiang Sect, am so defeated and humbled by the mighty Wen! Can I please join, oh magnificent masters?"
Meanwhile, Wei Wuxian has rescued Lan Xichen (this is gonna get him so many bonus points with his sexy law-abiding nemesis LWJ) , and then gotten himself thrown into the Burial Mounds for snarking at Wen Chao...which is a lot like throwing Brer Rabbit into the briar patch
Sunshot Campaign! With no golden core, JC can't really rebuild Jiang Sect, but he gets reliable intel from a man on the inside and he humbles himself enough to ask Wei Wuxian for tutelage in talismans, and of course you'd literally need to tie him up to keep him from going out and kicking ass.
Wei Wuxian is peak Yiling Patriarch because it's the right thing to do. (LWJ: Come back to Gusu with me (so I can aggressive cleanse your spirit, then maybe dick you down so hard that neither of us can movie for a week))
AFTER THE WAR: Jin Guangshan dramatically recognizes war hero/Wen Ruohan-slayer Meng Yao as Jin Guangyao, his son and new sect member... and Meng Yao, having grown up with the absolute Ride Or Die nature of Jiang Sect, and with more intimate knowledge (via JYL's engagement and YZY's friendship with Madame Jin) of how much JGS sucks, says, "Thanks but no thanks, I will be staying with my sworn brother and sect leader Jiang Wanyin to rebuild Jiang Sect."
It's just about his ambitions, okay! He'll FUNCTIONALLY be Sect Leader; Jiang Cheng literally doesn't have a golden core! (Though he's still absolutely first-rate in swordwork and his talismans are fucking superb. The thing about Jiang Cheng is that he will rise to the occasion, always.) Also, that 'sworn brother' thing was not agreed upon in advance; Meng Yao totally publicly backed him into that corner - in which he didn't mind being. Jiang Cheng is pretty damn sure he's getting the better of this deal, and he's kinda right.
Between JC's prestigious name and insane levels of personal dedication, MY's people skills and equally insane (but slightly more calculated) levels of personal dedication, and JYL securing a very favorable loan from Madame Jin, they hella get Jiang Sect back on its feet.
Meanwhile, WWX has again refused to go with LWJ to learn "proper" cultivation or anything else...and JGS is seeking power, and abusing Wen prisoners of war...
Wen Qing comes to Lotus Pier, finds Meng Yao, and says, "Please help save my brother. We helped save yours. You owe us this much." Meng Yao, being Meng Yao, thinks, I do rather owe here, but this is politically delicate... Who can I foist this off on whom I don't mind seeing torn apart by every righteous sect... and forwards her to Wei Wuxian.
Who does his righteous Wei Wuxian thing
There's a big dramatic meeting of sect leaders & etc about this, in which JGS beats his war drums, etc. etc. Meng Yao feels slightly bad but not, like, that bad. Wei Wuxian tried to steal his brother when they were teenagers, and again while MY was away during the Sunshot Campaign, so he probably deserves to die.
Afterwards, JYL with her unerring Older Sister senses pulls MY (and JC) aside and hisses, "A-Yao, what did you do?"
Do they end up saving the day? Is Wei Wuxian just destined to doom himself with his particular combination of pride, self-neglect, and blithe refusal to play by everyone else's rules? I never actually decided!

WIP Wednesday snippet
"washed up nobody worms his way into local governmental leader's heart" was in the lead when i last checked the Out of Context Wip poll.
Taxes fried my brain on Wednesday, so you get it now! What is time anyway!!
The summary refers to "A Serpent Among the Lotus", my double-post-canon crossover with endgame Jiang Cheng/Zhuzhi-Lang. Zhuzhi-Lang is stuck in a form closer to his birth form right now, mostly monstrous.
"I am dangerousss."
"Yeah? So am I. And so is the sect leader. If he's not worried, I'm not." Jiang Cheng shrugged. It had gotten easier to shed the awkwardness of referring to himself like that with each day. Now, Jiang Wanyin sat separate from Sect Leader Jiang, held at a distance if only for the hours they spoke together.
Zhuzhi-Lang considered him, propping his head up on his folded arms. "Tell thiss one about your ssect leader? He musst be different from thosse I've met before."
Jiang Cheng sighed. "What's there to tell? He's loud and short tempered and yells a lot {lists his negative qualities as he sees them or has heard}."
"Jiang-gongzi does not like his sect leader."
"What? That's not true!" Jiang Cheng huffed at Zhuzhi-Lang's disbelieving look. "He's powerful," he said slowly. "He has a very strong core." That little fact comes with a bewildering stab of guilt and grief that he shoves back down. "He looks out for everyone in his sect. He makes sure no kids are running around begging on the street with no home. He does his best to be fair in dealings." He was quickly running out of nice things to say about himself. "Um, he looks fine, I guess? People used to say he was the fifth most handsome bachelor of his generation."
"Only fifth then? What doessss he rank now?"
Jiang Cheng stopped. Lan Huan was still technically a bachelor, secluded though he was. Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were married. He did not dwell on them. Jin Zixuan...
"Second, I guess, of those who were originally ranked."
"Handssome man."
"I guess."
"Oh? Jiang-gongzi preferss women?"
"Maybe?" He scratched his head, then shook it. "Who has time to consider romance or attractiveness or anything? We're still reestablishing our sect."
Zhuzhi-Lang hummed. Songs of insects filled in the long stretch of silence. Jiang Cheng fidgeted.
"Do uh... Do you prefer lady demons or guy demons?" Zhuzhi-Lang looked at him and Jiang Cheng puffed up defensively. "Fair's fair, you asked first!"
"Thiss one hass only found a human man attractive." Zhuzhi-Lang tipped his head, long hair sliding over his arm to pool against his chest in a dark waterfall. "Where does Wanyin-gongzi rank on the list?"
Jiang Cheng choked on the sip of water he had just taken. He sputtered some incoherent response about not ranking at all.
They turned to safer topics, Jiang Cheng complaining about the water ghouls that cropped up around this time of year and how annoying they were to hunt down. It was nice to complain casually. As sect leader, he didn't really have anyone he could talk this candidly with. They compared water ghouls to some demons and similar resentful dead further west.
The notes Jiang Cheng has taken from his conversations with Zhuzhi-Lang far outstrip the few scrolls they have on demons. He sets some of the scholarly disciples who work in the library to organize and transpose his notes into useful scrolls. After all, if one demon has floated down the river, what would stop more from following?
Whatever choice wins the poll will get a snippet post like this! Go vote, or send me an ask with a summary and I'll be happy to talk about any of these! :D

Huaisang laughs. “Jiang-xiong, you should know I could never marry a woman.”
He says it lightly, half expecting Jiang Cheng to laugh along with him, but Jiang Cheng’s back goes stiff as a rod. He leans visibly away. “What? You mean you’re a… a cut-sleeve?!”
Huaisang guffaws, hoarse and loud. He bats his eyelashes, crested with tears, and rolls one shoulder toward Jiang Cheng as he snatches up his fan. “Why of course, Jiang-xiong. Surely, you already knew.”
Apparently, Jiang Cheng did not already know.

Happy Birthday to my beloved Blorbo, Nie Huaisang!!!
Here's a little prequel vignette in the universe of my fic "It Was You All Along" - but it's perfectly understandable without the fic as context!
Takes place post-NMJ's death, pre-WWX's return - The SangCheng is one-sided pining in this vignette (but rest assured, it ends up requited eventually :D)
~~~
Nie Huaisang had been at Koi Tower the day he received the invitation.
In all honesty, it wasn’t where he’d wanted to be for his birthday. He longed to be back at the Unclean Realm with a good book and a full bath, and afterwards he would curl up on the bed in his brother’s room – which had not been touched since the day he died, other than to keep it dust-free – and cry himself to sleep. Birthdays hadn’t been the same without Nie Mingjue there to act grumpy and threaten to sling Nie Huaisang over his shoulder and drag him to saber practice, and then surprise him with something truly special.
The last birthday gift Da-ge had given him had been a beautiful silk fan. It had burned along with the rest of his things on that fateful day...
But instead of being in the familiarity of home, he was in Koi Tower. Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao had insisted on him spending his birthdays with them as an attempt at keeping his spirits up, both saying that it’s what Da-ge would have wanted – the thought had turned his stomach. He had never fought them, though, needing to continue the appearance of being addled by grief – and currently, he was trying to establish just how much Lan Xichen knew about Nie Mingjue’s death. Jin Guangyao continued to act as if it had been simply a terrible tragedy of fate and he was foremost in Nie Huaisang’s plans for revenge, but he had yet to completely discount Lan Xichen’s potential role in the matter. Perhaps Er-ge was innocent. Or perhaps he too had betrayed Nie Mingjue.
Perhaps Nie Huaisang was exhausted and tired of pretending, of spending his days filled with terror and suspicion. Perhaps he was hollow and lifeless beneath the surface of his skin, and perhaps he had a desperate hope that the moment his brother was avenged, that the life within him would no longer be smothered by grief.
But that day, there was the invitation.
It was on fine quality paper with the emblem for Yunmeng Jiang, and clearly stated that there would be a courtship tournament for Jiang Wangyin. He remembered the cultivation conferences where the matter of Jiang Cheng’s marriage prospects had been discussed, with the other sect leaders treating his bachelorhood like a problem that needed to be solved, rather than it merely being a matter of a man living his life the way he wished and damn the rest of their opinions. He’d done what he could to distract them, but sect leaders were mostly busybodies by nature and enjoyed meddling where they weren’t wanted – particularly those whose wives and daughters had caught a glance of the handsome Sandu Shengshou and wished a piece of him.
Honestly, he couldn’t blame them – he’d fantasized of that very thing since he’d been a boy in Cloud Recesses.
He had been given the invitation by Jin Ling himself with the expectation that he would bring it back to Qinghe and post it for his disciples. It was a reasonable expectation, and Nie Huaisang did intend on doing just that. Even if he wished he could destroy it. Even if he wished the tournament would never happen.
That night, after putting on an excellent performance at playing the fool for Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen, he lay in his night robes, curled up in his guest bedroom with the invitation in his hands. His thumb rubbed against the ink forming the name Jiang Wanyin - oh, Jiang Cheng must have hated that they’d used his courtesy name.
In the dark of night, he indulged himself in a fantasy – it was his birthday, he deserved it – that he himself would enter the tournament. He would dress in his best robes and put on his best airs, and every step of the way he would beat out the competition. And when he won, he would offer Jiang Cheng his freedom – a promise that he would hold him to no commitment unless he wished it... and then Jiang Cheng would look at him, profess his undying love, and take him to bed without another moment’s hesitation.
It was, after all, a fantasy.
He finally folded up the invitation and placed it on his night table. Fantasies were wonderful, but he could never confuse them for reality. No doubt only women would be allowed to enter in the tournament. And he truly didn’t have the time to participate in such a thing – he had clues to dig out and suspects to eliminate or verify, and there were still parts of his brother’s corpse that he hadn’t found yet, not to mention the daily duties of being a sect leader that he tried to manage despite all appearances otherwise. There were so many things to do; what time did he have for something so frivolous, even if he were allowed to participate?
After all, wouldn’t Jiang Cheng toss him out the moment he showed up? “Very funny, Nie-xiong,” he imagined him saying, the nickname something Nie Huaisang hadn’t heard since before Wei Wuxian’s death and missed terribly. “Now stop making a joke of this and get back to Qinghe where you belong.”
He chuckled, imagining in his mind’s eye the huge eyeroll he would receive for even trying to put himself forward as a candidate.
“Don’t laugh,” another voice spoke in his mind, turning his chuckle into a sob. “You may be lazy and frivolous, but you’re still my Didi and anyone would be lucky to have you. If anyone ever said you weren’t good enough for them, point me at them and Baxia and I will inform them otherwise.”
He sniffed and wiped the tears from his cheek. “Goodnight, Da-ge,” he whispered into the darkness.
“Happy birthday, Huaisang,” he heard as his brother’s voice faded from his mind.
He closed his eyes, intent on trying to push his emotions aside and fall asleep. In what heart he had left, he sent a wish to the Heavens that they show Jiang Cheng some kindness and bring him a spouse that would make him happy and love him for who he was – even if that spouse could never be him.
Is Wei Ying gay or european?
Dumb idea brought to you courtesy of this amazing video
Jin Zixuan was fidgeting, he looked once more at the Yunmeng Jiang table, then followed his eyes to the Gusu Lan contigent, taking notice of the two suspicously missing figures. Dammit! this was all Nie Huaisang fault! If he hadn’t pointed out earlier, Zixuan could’ve ended the discussion conference in peace, now, as it was, his too curious for his own good brain was torturing itself with the same damn question. It was stupid!! It was soo stupid! ... and yet
“Now those are the new positions for the eligible bachelors list, before we move on to trade, anyone has anything else to add?” A-Yao smiled to the ones presents. Jin Zixuan looked once more to the Jiang group, then to the Lan and finally he saw Huaisang, who only opened his fan and arched an eyebrow, as to say ‘You see what I was talking about?’. And just... he couldn’t. Stand. It
“Is Wei Wuxian gay?!” he blurted out to the Jiang contigent. There was a horrifying moment full of silence when he realized what he had done... but one look at Huaisang confimed it... there was no going back now
“Excuse me?”
“It’s just that....” Jin Zixuan was babbling, he could see Yanli laughing at him, he swallows and looks at the window, where he can see the cause of all this sitting comfortably with the other cause of this disaster “There! Right there!” he points, the other sect leaders turn to look at the sweet scene “Is Wei Wuxian a cut sleeve?” he wonders again
“Young Master Jin, I hardly think this is the time to-”
“Of course he is not!” Jiang Wanyin almost jumped out of his seat, interrumpting whatever nonsense sect leader Yao was about to say “How can you think that?!”
“How can you not?!” the good think about Jiang Cheng being the one that first answered, Huaisang thinks, is that Jin Zixuan gets on his competitive mood and forgets everything else as he launches himself in the most ridiculous debate they’ve ever entertained “Have you seen his skin? have you seen the killer shape he is in?! Oh please he’s gay, totally gay!” Zixuan almost looked offended for some reason
“Young masters, please-”
“Young master Jin could not be wrong however...” Nie Huaisang had to do a double take at Lan Qiren interrupting someone over this random argument “Those traits does not make someone a cut-sleeve, and considering his reputation, Wei Wuxian couldn’t be one, I say not gay”
“But look at his coiffed and crispy locks!” one disciple of Yunmeng Jiang pipes up, and Jiang Wanying’s betrayed expression is hilarious
“He does have silk translucent socks” Nie Huaisang says behind his fan, adding to the chaos
“There’s the eternal paradox, look what we’re seeing...”
“What are we seeing, Lan Laoshi?” the younger Nie ignores his brother’s grunt to shut him up
“Is he gay...”
“Of course he is gay!” Jin Zixuan insists
“Or a rogue?” at Lan Qiren’s question the rest awes, Jiang Wanyin facepalms and the smaller sects want nothing to do with this, yet...
“Is he gay or a rogue?” for some reason almost the entire room turns to look at Nie Huaisang, and he gets it, if there’s someone who would know whether Wei Wuxian  would go rogue, it would’ve been him, in this case though
“Well don’t look at me” he shakes his head
“Well the rogues cultivators are different from the sects, they take different sports than us and use shorter robes” one cultivator adds
“Depending on the context... young master Wei could go either way” Lan Xichen says quietly taking a sip of his tea, totally knowing about his brother’s infatuation with the boy
As the discussion conference gets out of control, everyone starts asking the same question ‘Is Wei Wuxian gay or going rogue?’
“Hold it!” the matriarch of Yunmeng Jiang takes the attention of everyone, and while some are relieved thinking they are going to stop this idiotic nonsense, Yu Ziyuan says another unexpected thing “Have you all seen the brat’s condenscending smirk? Is not one that everyone can see on every cultivator present? Wei Wuxian is a metro-hetro jerk, he is not gay, I say no way!”
Next to her Fengmian is sighing and Yanli is barely containing her laughter
“Look, we all saw Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji interact during the classes” Jin Zixuan takes his point back “With all that evidence I just say is safe to presume that he is a cutsleeve”
For the next minutes the room descends into chaos, especially with Lan Qiren screaming against the mere notion of Wei Wuxian being into his nephew. But as a conclusion is about to be reach and the rest of the espectators start a betting pool, one young cultivator attracts the attention
“Hold it, hold it! If I remember correctly, Wei Wuxian flirted with Mianmian once!”
the mob turns to look at the girl
“Is that true?”
“I mean... yes, he did”
“Dammit!” Nie Huaisang arches an eyebrow, surprised that sect leader Oouyang and his own brother would vote for the cut sleeves
“Is this only about his style? A-Xian has a magnetic personallity, but his shoes are pointy toed” Jiang Yanli smiles innocently
“Huh” Nie Huaisang hadn’t thought about that “So many shades of gray”
“If he turns out straight though, I could be free after this” one female cultivator giggles in the back
“So is he gay or going rogue?!”
“Stop!” Jiang Cheng is official done with this bullshit about his shixiong “give a chance to crack the menance, I have an idea I’d like to try”
“Go on, young master Jiang, the floor is yours” Lan Xichen smiles, he hopes for a happy resolution for his own brother’s sake
“Wei Wuxian!” at Jiang Cheng’s call, the disciple runs to the room, Lan Wangji trailing behind “Help us understand something quick, you first ate a-Jie’s soup when you were..?”
“Nine years old!” he answers, a little bit confused but also happy to see his beloved shijie’s smile
“Okay, and your first name is...?”
“Wei Ying!”
“And your boyfriend’s name is...?”
“Lan Zhan!” he says without thinking, a bright, happy smile on his face; when he hears the gasps around him he realizes what he said, turning to look at a furious Lan Qiren he tries to backtrack “I’m sorry Jiang Cheng, I misunderstood the question, you say boyfriend, I thought you say best friend, and Lan Zhan is my best friend” he says trying not to be kill by his former teacher
“Wei Ying” Lan Wangji takes his hand softly “There’s no need to keep lying anymore” he turns to his brother in particular, but his voice carries “Wei Ying is a cut sleeve and we are thinking to go on as rogue cultivators”
“Didi!”
“Wangji!”
“Wei Wuxian!”
“Lan Zhan!” among the multiple voices claming for an explanation, Lan Wangji turns to the whining voice of his boyfriend
“Wei Ying must stop lying himself as well, this is not a disgrace nor something you should be ashamed of”
“But... I’m straight?” he tries, nervously looking at both Lan Qiren and Madam Yu fumming on their seats
“You really aren’t, you weren’t yesterday at least” Lan Wangji shows him an almost imperceptible smirk that makes Xichen gasp and Wei Wuxian swoon “So, if I may, Xiongzhang, honourable leaders, I would like to have Wei Ying as my cultivation partner”
“Lan Zhan!!” Wei Wuxian tackles the taller man in a hug as the room descends into chaos once more
He groans, but Jin Zixuan knows there’s no one else to blame but himself, he brought it upon himself. Except, not. Scratch that, it was all Nie Huaisang’s fault!!
Summons with Jiang Cheng
The leaders of the sect were captured
Again.
Jiang Cheng still don't understand how these idiots succed it
He was in a night hunt with his nephew when he met with Wei Wuxian and the Lans.
And in nothing all become black.
"Y'all can't be faster!" Wei Wuxian groaned
That idiot.
When he awake noticed that here were almost all the sect leaders (at least he wasn't the only one captured, that would be embarassing)
" Wei ying, calm down" oh right ms. Pefect an all the clan was there too
The room was covered by noises of all the captatives. He could see Jin ling, some of his diciples, the lans, some random Jins, some Nies, Nie Huisang, leaders of minor sects and their own group of diciples. Some look panicked, other resigned, angry or thoughtfull.
"aghh.." he sigh, this was stressfull and annoying.
" You all have to be greatfull!, you'll be sacrifices for our lord, the rules of dead, the ghost king" the idiot yelled, while the other idiots finish the summon circle in the middle of the room.
" And i suposse to be the crazy obssesed with the death" wei wuxian said, voice full of sarcarsm
" no, you are the mad inventor obssesed with resent energy" He respon him
" Lan Zhan, cheng cheng is bein-" a burst of energy errupt from the summon circle.
"Is here, is finally here!" The cultist yelled exicited
The room grew colder contradicting bright flames dancing in the previously extinguished lambs, the resent energy roared in the room. And for a moment he thought see the death itself before him.
"ugh! Really! This is the third time in the week" a young voice yell in annoyance
"Well, this is anticlimating" lan jingyi says
he couldn't help but agree
In front them wasn't a warrior or a wise old man or a person full in power. Just a teenager with strange clothes, blue eyes, dark raven SHORT hair     and a little short.
"Well, first: WTF! Why are so many people here!, second: What do you want?" The teen yell floating.
Wait a minut
FLOATING
" HOW ARE YOU Fl-"
"Who are you! Where is the Ghost King!"
He'll broke that idiot legs!
"Sorry all for this mess, the acncients know that only crazies snobs try to summon the ghost king in their free time"
Wei wuxian snort "ggfttg i like this kid"
Jiang cheng disagree, he was suspiciuos
"DON'T IGNORE ME!, BRAT WHERE IS THE GHOST KING!"
"Do you really think that he would show himself to someone with thay manners?" Said the kid with a raise brow and a michivicious smile
"HE MUST! WE BIND HIM WITH THIS SPELL!"
"you tried to bind ME" the cold return tu the room and the figure of the child startez to change
The black hair turn into a white snow hair what maves like it was a flame itself, his eyes start glowing toxic green, his hands become sharper, lile claws and the fun expresion was replace for a face in blanc
That day jiang Wanyin found out that some histories are true
New Bundle of Multi Fandom Fic Recs
Fics from various fandoms that have made it into my favorites pile in the last few months. I’ve included the first fics in some unfinished series in this bunch, so if that bothers you be sure to check the series pages before you start to read. Here you will find recs for The Untamed/MDZS, SVSSS, Word of Honor, and Star Wars. One of these days I will create master lists for each fandom.These are a mix of gen and slash with a range of ratings, so read at your own risk. Don’t forget to leave some love for the authors.
The Untamed/MDZS
Stray Dog's Parable by natcat5
Innocence isn't the only thing to die in war. Propriety is the last thing on the minds of the teenaged generals, the orphan clan leaders of the Sunshot campaign.
Jin Guangshan is the only leader who ascended as an adult, who didn't have his parents murdered by the Wen, who didn't come of age during a war. The last adult standing, the only one with experience and age. He assumes this will put him in the most advantageous position, once the war ends. That the infant leaders of the other clans will gladly fall into step within his shadow.
He is wrong.
Your Heart and Mine by natcat5
Wangji and his swan have never met a daemon so terrible and improper as Wei Wuxian's wretched, shameless raven.
Fierce Rabbits by FaiaSakura
Lan Yuan didn’t mean to start a collection of undead rabbits.
Inquiry by incendir
Sizhui cannot fall asleep for a long, long time that night. He hears the ever-familiar melody again. He thinks perhaps he has memorized it by now.
the anger remains by Gaez (bell_flowers)
The ghost, when it comes to Lotus Pier, is not entirely unexpected. That it is the enraged shade of his elder sister, does give Jiang Wanyin pause.
just as the stories say by TheDameJudiWench
When a young girl tries to kill the Yiling Laozu, she learns that revenge may not be what she seeks. As Wei Wuxian fights for his life in Cloud Recesses, she begin to carve out an existence she never imagined. Suddenly, she has far more to lose than she ever believed she could gain.
The more she learns about Wei Wuxian and the people who love him, the more she understands about grief and atonement.
This is a story about forgiveness.
Whatever you do [Podfic] by gndmlvr01
Podfic of Whatever you do, by apathyinreverie
Read by gndmlvr01, and posted with blanket permission Please note: I did adjust tags that I find helpful to locate works like this (ex: Genius WWX)
Original story summary:
During the attack on Cloud Recesses, both Jades of Lan are captured. It changes everything. Not so much by way of their capture. But rather by way of who ends up coming to their rescue.
(Or, a Wei-Ying-is-appreciated fic. ‘Cause, there can never be enough of those.)
To a fault by apathyinreverie
The one where Jiang Cheng wakes during the Golden Core transfer procedure, wakes to the sound of his brother’s agony, to the sight of Wei Wuxian letting his Golden Core be torn from his own chest.
SVSSS
anachronism of the moment by plutoisgay
daemon au that follows Shen Yuan through his transmigration and life in PIDW
We Are Not Wise by Boomchick, Suzoomie
When Shen Qingqiu drew Shen Yuan’s soul sword, it felt like being burned from the inside out. The fire wasn’t cruel, but it was still fire—hot and destructive, searing the softest pieces of him.
When Binghe’s fingers touch the hilt, he is ready for pain.
Transmigrated into a version of Proud Immortal Demon Way where cultivators manifest their own souls into spiritual weapons, Shen Yuan finds himself sort of kind of…accidentally blackmailing Shen Qingqiu into taking him on as a disciple before Luo Binghe joins the sect.
That should give Shen Yuan plenty of opportunities to make sure nothing goes wrong for his favorite protagonist, right? RIGHT!?
"Thank you, valued user, for accepting the Protagonist Rehabilitation Programme. Your task: Ensure the protagonist's happiness."
Shen Yuan is convinced that his favouri... least favourite novel's main protagonist isn't really happy. He has babes, money and power, but does he have any friends? Cue the system handily dropping Demon King Luo Binghe into his bedroom. Can Shen Yuan make him happy before the timer runs out?
When it was all said and done, Shen Qingqiu comforted himself that the end of the plot meant that, surely, all major events were out of the way. They were firmly in HEA territory and he could relax a little. Right? Right.
A year and a half into his marriage to the protagonist, he cursed himself for a fool when he woke next to a Luo Binghe from ten years in the past.
Meanwhile, a recently transmigrated Shen Yuan struggled to retain what little face he had when confronted with an overgrown, disturbingly gorgeous demon lord claiming to be his husband. Which is impossible, because he’s straight, the most hetero heterosexual to exist. System? A little help here??
Sit With Your Soul by Tossawary
The original Shen Qingqiu suffers a severe deviation that unsettles his daemon, transforming them into a childish and inconstant creature, too curious and without any memories of the life that has made him so bitter. His soul is now unrecognizable to him and everyone can see his humiliation.
Shen Yuan isn't exactly happy to have transmigrated into Proud Immortal Demon Way at all, much less as this doomed scum villain's daemon.
Emperor Luo Binghe goes looking for a Shen Yuan of his own. The one he finds has yet to fully ripen, but Luo Binghe is used to turning adversity into advantage.
Go Down With You by SpiritOfFox
Your experience when transmigrating largely depends on what role you assume. For example: - you might become the protagonist, the favored golden child of the world... ୧(ಠ⌣ಠ)୨ - you could be the scum villain, the most hated character in the novel... (งಠ_ಠ)ง - you could also end up as the protagonist's wife, one of the many many members of the harem... ❤(ಠ_ಠ)❤
Let's say that Shen Yuan would like to lodge a complaint against the Transmigration System.
Zishu straightened up as someone knocked gently on the door. “Da-ren, a refill while you wait?”
About to dismiss the staff, Zishu hesitated as he poured out the last of the tea from the small black pot into his cup. “Fine.”
The man who walked in was handsome, bordering on pretty, an elegant beauty who wouldn’t look out of place among the brothel’s most valuable courtesans. His clothes were too finely made, though, in shades of pale jade and snowy white, and his red mouth wore a smile that was too sharp. He glided across the floor with a poise and gait that was far too considered for anyone untrained in martial arts.
I have seen a lot of stuff on the A-Yao or Jiang Cheng harem. So I decided to write a little piece of my own little scenario.
This is an A-Yao harem🌟
Yao: *sitting and fanning himself while scanning his harem members* such a surprise to see you all. *closes fan*
mingjue: didn't you not just call us here?! How is it a surprise?!
Yao: I have only called you, dage. The rest came because they miss me.
Xichen: of course I miss you!
Su she: missed you like crazy, Dianxia! How was your trip?
Yao: hectic. But successful. The array is done.
Su she: great.
Xue yang: *grinning* Jiggy.
Huaisang: I just came for some help, San ge.
Yao: *chuckles* what kind of help, headshaker?
Huaisang: *hides his blushing face with his fan*
Xuanyu: crouches and grabs his sleeves* Oh Yao gege! I'm here.
Yao: how sweet.
Jiang cheng: *entering*
Yao: ahh. Sect leader Jiang.
Jiang cheng: I'm only doing this for A-ling.
Yao: are you sure. Or is it something else?
Jiang cheng: meaning?
Yao: A-ling doesn't know what a harem is.
Jiang cheng: but we should have healthy relations right.
Yao: fine. *sighs* use that to cover up the truth.
I know that you can't do without me, even after our divorce.
Xichen: Wanyin? You're here too?!
Jiang cheng: Zewu Jun? Well I'm not surprised.
Xue yang: oho. Xicheng is here!!! I like this ship.
Yao: *glares at xue yang* shut up.
Jiang cheng: Zewu Jun and are also divorced. Because he said something about, he can't get this Yao off of his mind.
Yao: *laughing* how sweet of my er ge. But you two have so much in common.
You can't get over me.
Yao: now shall we start? Your lianfang zun is tired.
Xichen: aww. Oh no A-Yao.
Su she: you need some tea.
Yao: excellent idea. Oh sect leader Jiang!
Jiang cheng: I'm right here *rolls eyes*
Yao; get me some tea.
Jiang cheng: fine.
Yao: delightful.
Lxc and SmS: now can we kiss your dimples?!
Xue yang: it's proven to relax you! Jiggybun.
Su she: Zonghu, I deserve to kiss you first.
Xichen: I knew A-Yao before you.
Mingjue: let's just get this over with.
Xue yang: *licking lips* Jiggybun.
Su she: *pulls out sword*
Xichen: *pulls out sword* stay away from A-Yao. You two!
Su she: how dare you!!
Xichen: come at me. You Lan traitor!
Huaisang: *crying* Dage, San ge. I'm scared.
Mingjue: you all are giving me a headache!
Xue yang: do you want me to chop it off?!
Mingjue: *unsheathing baxia* stay away from me!
Yao: *grinning in amusement*
Xuanyu: Yao gege. *grabbing his sleeve* can you stop them from fighting.
Yao: *pats head* sure, my little Xuanyu.
Yao: that's enough. now single file everyone.
Mingjue: why should I line up to kiss you?!
Not that I want to.
Yao: there must be order, dage. But don't worry. You'll get your turn.
Xue yang: and what is that cake face simp doing next to you?!
Yao: Xuanyu? He's very shy, Yangyang. Hence he's always holding on to my sleeve.
Xuanyu: Yao gege.
Yao: ah. I'm here *strokes head*
Jiang cheng: here's your stupid tea.
Yao: splendid. Thank you sect leader Jiang.
Do you want any tea, A-Yu?
Xuanyu: mn. If gege insists.
Yao: now join the line.
Jiang cheng: for?
Yao: what do you think. *laughing*
Er ge, darling. You're first.
Su she: how?!
Yao: patience.
Xue yang: obviously he would want the real Lan first.
MDZS Rereading - Chapter 3 (Part One) - The Prideful (Arrogance 6-10)
Manhua Chapters 13-who knows this is a Part 1 now
Should I do this in character as Jin Zixun? I'm not going to do that.
Hey it's our good friend 'yeah pretty much'
"Wei Wuxian couldn’t help but miss his sword, which was most likely now hanging on some major clan leader’s wall as a trophy."
"If an ordinary clan—one without generations of accumulated reputation to stand on—wanted to join the higher ranks and become famous, wanted to gain prestige and respect among the cultivation world, then they had to show tangible achievements. Only when they hunted down ruthless monsters or disaster-bringing malicious fiends did their words gain any weight."
Tumblr media
Yeah, what am I adding that for? No reason, nothing much.
Can I use it to defend (and by defend I mean implicate in several murders probably) Moling Su Sect like way later on? Maybe.
This is here because it's cute. A+ commentary, no notes
Wei Wuxian being an edgy boy.
"It didn’t sound fake—even though nine times out of ten, cries for help in the wild were evil spirits out causing mischief, luring the ignorant into a trap. Wei Wuxian, however, was thrilled.
The eviler the better! It had better be evil enough!"
"He was in need of a band of tyrannical ghost generals to do his bidding, so he, too, decided to head to that “Rice Mountain” to try his luck. If there was one that proved useful, he’d capture it for his own use."
Ok but why though? What actually is your plan going forward here? I get that it's probably because best boy Wen Ning is actually here, but like he says he's already captured a few low level ghosts? I don't think he's joking? I feel like Padme in that meme.
Tumblr media
Oh hey it's Jin Ling. Mr. Extremely Young and Incredibly Rich, according to Wei Wuxian.
I have nothing to say here, just more of a 'have you seen him? Now you have!' sort of situation going on.
I'm sure much has been said about how and whether since he's with the Jiang Clan here, it's actually Jiang Cheng who is super rich now. So I won't bother to say it. Canon Sugar Daddy Jiang Wanyin. See, I said nothing. Nothing was said.
"An immortal-binding net was already considerably expensive, and he’d still set up over four hundred of them in one go. As expected of the Jin Clan of Lanling—an even slightly smaller clan would have been reduced to poverty and ruin."
"...the Jin Clan of Lanling now led the clans and sects; the head of their clan was even respectfully addressed as “Cultivation Chief.”"
What was wrong with 'Chief Cultivator'. Was it overly incorrect? It conveys the same information, but if I dare to say it, it does not convey the same vibes. Were the vibes wrong all this time? Should it be Cultivation Chief? ...I don't want it to be.
"Could it be that Mo Xuanyu’s father was not some random small-time clan leader but the infamous Jin Guangshan?!"
I guess Mo Xuanyu didn't mention that in his notes? That's kind of funny tbh.
"Of his many illegitimate children, only one had been outstanding enough to be recognized and taken back, and that was the current family head of the Jin Clan of Lanling, Jin Guangyao."
A-Yao!!! Yeah! Glad Wei Wuxian kept up with all the hot gossip while he was dead. Like enough to know this next part:
But not enough to know about like. Jin Ling. Like what kind of priorities do you have here, buddy?
"Furthermore, even the way Jin Guangshan died was an embarrassment. Old, but fully confident he was still robust, he’d fooled around with a bunch of women at once in order to challenge himself. However, he unfortunately overestimated his vitality and died during the orgy. This was simply too embarrassing to speak of, so the Jin Clan of Lanling unanimously declared that the old sect leader had passed due to overexertion, and the rest of the clans, in tacit understanding, all pretended not to know the full truth of the statement. In any case, that was the real reason for his infamy."
"Wei Wuxian felt he had a responsibility to humiliate the boy back."
No, uh, you really don't. You don't have to. (WWX: No I'm gonna)
"So, he countered, “Didn’t your mother teach you any manners?”"
Tumblr media
"I'm his Uncle" iconic. Like. Top Iconic moments list? So far, this one right here.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng more like... Damn
Tumblr media
Wow there sure a lot of these this chapter. Suibian, Ghost Generals, Widower Wangji... I'm sure there's some I missed.
eh lan zhan is alright too if you're into that kind of thing.
"Furthermore, no matter how thoroughly Lan Wangji was praised as an unrivaled rare beauty, nothing could help the fact that he looked profoundly embittered, as if he had lost his wife."
"Jiang Cheng was exceptionally handsome, but he was still a little inferior to the one standing before him"
No comments. No notes. I don't even know why I...
"Well see Jiang Cheng, on my hotness rating scale, you're just a little bit behind Lan Zhan, but you're still exceptionally handsome so-- Wait where are you going? Jiang Cheng? Jiang Cheng?"
(Yes I know the hotness rating scale is canon)
"Lan Jingyi was the blunt and outspoken sort. “Isn’t Sect Leader Jiang here too?”
Jiang Cheng replied coldly, “Tsk. An elder is speaking, who are you to interrupt? The Lan Clan of Gusu pride themselves on being a clan of etiquette. This is what disciples are being taught?”"
Tumblr media
Things that make you go 'hmm' (but maybe that's just because you can't make any other noise)
"This silence spell was what the Lan clan used to punish its disciples.
Wei Wuxian had fallen victim to this little trick on many occasions. While it was not complex magic by any stretch of the imagination, only those of the Lan family could undo the spell. If one attempted to speak by brute force, then either their lips would be torn to shreds by the effort or they’d lose their voice for days. The penitent one had to keep their mouth shut and self-reflect in silence until the punishment period was over."
"He had originally come to assist Jin Ling: the boy was fifteen this year, the age to make his debut and fight for experience with the juniors from other clans. Jiang Cheng had reviewed the options carefully before deciding on Mount Dafan as the hunting ground. He had then set up nets everywhere and scared off all the other cultivators, making it so difficult for them to move that they’d be forced to back off—all so Jin Ling would emerge the winner without anyone fighting him for the title."
Oh. Oh buddy. That's. That's just. No. Don't uh... Don't do any of this. Oh god this is so misguided-but-well-intentioned I'm--
"While over four hundred immortal-binding nets were extremely expensive, the price was nothing to the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng."
And yes, the answer to that question is yes, Jiang Cheng is big dick sugar daddy with all the cash money one could want.
Ok let's break up this next one...
"Ever since the decline of the Nie Clan of Qinghe,"
Number One, couldn't happen to a better clan. Alright, I'll try not to bully the Nie too much today!
"of the current three great clans, the Jin Clan of Lanling and the Lan Clan of Gusu had always been close due to the strong personal friendship shared by their clan leaders."
Number Two, this is such gals being pals energy. Jiang Cheng at the sect leader meetings like 'wow those guys are such good friends.' Like buddy. Come on.
"Jiang Cheng ruled the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng alone, so it could have been said that he was in a state of isolation."
Number Three. Oh.
"Lan Wangji’s guqin (also named Wangji)"
ok this was just kind of funny to me, just the way it's written.
I don't know Jingyi he just had a whole long ass exposition, but I guess you didn't get to read that part.
"After they had gone, Lan Jingyi posed a general question: “Why is Sect Leader Jiang like that?!”"
"His voice was deep and captivating. If one stood close, it would make the heart flutter."
lmao Wei Wuxian is like back to life for a day and he's down this bad. Heartbreaking.
Tumblr media
I feel more like I'm just recapping here at this point, but what else is there to say? I mean we all want to be the edgy ironically detached necromancer, but even the edgy ironically detached necromancer can't be that.
"There were so many disciples in the Jin Clan of Lanling that he’d genuinely never imagined he might run into Jin Ling. Had he known, he would never have mocked Jin Ling with that comment of his, “Didn’t your mother teach you any manners?” If anyone else had said that to Jin Ling, Wei Wuxian would’ve taught that person what “a loose tongue spells trouble” meant. But the tongue that said it had been his own.
After a moment of standing in silence, Wei Wuxian raised his hand and slapped himself across the face."
Honestly, this I feel like needs to have a part two. It's just too long at this point. I think this is about the halfway point of the chapter. And this post is like. Really long.
"He had truly thought his heart was made of stone. But humans were no stalks of grass, not unfeeling, and in the end, he was human after all."
Unimaginable Events
Relationships: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng | Jiang Wanyin & Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng | Jiang Wanyin & Jiang Yanli
Characters: Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng | Jiang Wanyin, Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji, Lan Huan | Lan Xichen, Jiang Yanli
Summary:
Both Hanguang-jun and Yiling Laozu fell to their deaths at Nightless City.
Their death was caused by none other than Yiling Laozu’s shidi, Jiang Wanyin.
Tumblr Note:
I just really wanted to write both of them dying together. I promise that my future fics will be happier!
xxx
Wei Wuxian had his mind emptied the moment he stood at the precipice. He thought of nothing as he watched the chaos that continued to unfold before him. He had cried—was done crying—at the turnout of events that was all caused by him and wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for him.
The peace in his mind was transient as he remembered his shijie, limp and lifeless in Jiang Cheng’s arms. Jiang Cheng’s mournful cries resonated in his ears.
Wei Wuxian closed his eyes, fleeting sweet memories passed through his mind, and he smiled—bitterly. His hold on chenqing faltering.
In his untainted and pure thoughts, he caught a glimpse of everyone he loves: shijie with her sweet smile as she served her specialty to her little brothers; Jiang Cheng playfully fighting with Wei Wuxian as he tried to swiftly take the remaining soup; Jiang shushu, who just walked in, smiling at the sight of them—
Wei Wuxian’s body felt like nothing when he leaned back into the air and waited for the cold yet sweet death that was ready to embrace him fully.
He opened his eyes when things didn’t happen accordingly. There was a tight grip squeezing his arm, trying to pull him away from his dreaded fate.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian breathed with a pained smile. He was a bit surprised, as if it was his first time seeing Lan Zhan. As if he didn’t see Lan Zhan follow him earlier and beg for him to come back.
And maybe he didn’t.
Wei Wuxian stared at the blood trickling down Lan Zhan’s arm. Oh, he was injured. Wei Wuxian weakly tried to pull back his arm, to set himself free and finally meet his demise. But the hold on him was unyielding.
Lan Zhan wouldn’t let go.
“Lan Zhan, let me go,” Wei Wuxian softly muttered and for a fraction, he felt himself get pulled down but that was it.
Lan Zhan was still trying to pull him back up. He was struggling, hurting, and even crying because of Wei Wuxian. And Wei Wuxian wanted to do nothing more but to just fall down and end everyone’s misery.
Wei Wuxian gritted his teeth as more blood escaped from Lan Zhan’s arm and onto his own. He felt himself cry again because if Lan Zhan doesn’t let go, he might have to deal with more than just an impaled arm. He might even fall to death with him.
And Wei Wuxian was afraid, having seen Lan Zhan’s tenacity over the years, that Lan Zhan was willing to fall with him if that was the only thing that would finally make him stop.
Lan Zhan, his zhiji, who stuck with him till the end. The only one who tried to understand him, who tried to help him, who visited him and gave him company.
Wei Wuxian had nothing on Lan Zhan except gratefulness, admiration, and maybe even love— but instead he was hurting him in the worst possible way.
There was a glimmer of silver on his periphery but only a little, since Jiang Cheng’s sword was covered in blood. He looked up and saw his little brother’s face. His little brother, who he gave a hard time the moment he became the sect leader. His little brother, who despite the nasty remarks still loves him so much as to sneak shijie to Yiling so she could see her A-Xian.
“Jiang Cheng,” Wei Wuxian smiled despite being given an acrimonious look by his shidi.
Jiang Cheng raised his sword and Wei Wuxian could only close his eyes in relief because finally, finally, Jiang Cheng would fulfill his wish that Lan Zhan couldn’t.
If he wouldn’t be killed by Lan Zhan, then being killed by Jiang Cheng would be no less of an honor.
After this, Wei Wuxian briefly wondered how the cultivation world will be. Of course, they will rejoice that Yiling Laozu is finally dead. His shidi would be renowned for accomplishing the task. Lotus Pier would continue to thrive. Meanwhile, his zhiji would go back to Cloud Recesses and everyone would flock over him with respect and admiration since their great Hanguang-jun helped defeat Yiling Laozu.
Everything will be fine without Wei Wuxian. In fact, everything will be better without Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian steered his own thoughts away when he started to think of his shijie and poor little Jin Ling. He opened his eyes to see Jiang Cheng still raising his sword but he wasn’t looking at Wei Wuxian. He was looking at Lan Zhan who was focused on trying to pull Wei Wuxian back up.
The smile of relief plastered on Wei Wuxian’s face vanished when he tried to read what was on his shidi’s mind. He can see on Jiang Cheng’s face the hesitance but still, the animosity is greater.
Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian refrained from speaking. His tongue felt heavy as he tried to gulp down the unequaled intensity of the situation.
Wei Wuxian looked back at Lan Zhan with worry and helplessness. He wanted Lan Zhan to let go before things escalate into something none of them will appreciate. Then he locked eyes with Jiang Cheng, who slowly lowered his arm and looked at Wei Wuxian with a blank expression.
“Lan Wangji,” Jiang Cheng starts, still looking at Wei Wuxian, and Lan Zhan could only watch him through his periphery. “If you want Wei Wuxian so much, why don’t you just go with him?”
On instinct, Wei Wuxian gripped Lan Zhan’s bloody arm as if that could protect him from Jiang Cheng’s impending actions. Lan Zhan only scrunched his forehead in confusion but paid no attention to Jiang Cheng afterward, missing to see the threat behind the man’s words.
“Jiang Cheng, don’t,” Wei Wuxian warned but at this point, how deadly can his words really be?
Wei Wuxian’s hold on his zhiji’s arm must have given Lan Zhan the wrong impression. Lan Zhan thought that Wei Wuxian was willing to be pulled back up. He didn’t realize that it was Wei Wuxian’s futile attempt at protecting him.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan struggled, pushing his hand against the ground while pulling Wei Wuxian up with the other.
But Wei Wuxian’s pleading and dreadful eyes were on Jiang Cheng. He could only watch as Jiang Cheng raised his sword that was not directed at Wei Wuxian—
”Jiang Cheng!”
But it was too late. Blood splattered on Wei Wuxian’s face that didn’t come from Lan Zhan’s arm but his mouth. Lan Zhan’s eyes widened and he coughed more blood while still keeping a firm grip on Wei Wuxian’s arm.
“Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian yelled as he tried to scramble back up but he couldn’t. He wheezed as if he felt his zhiji’s pain— his back pierced mercilessly by Sandu. ”Lan Zhan!” He cried out, clawing on the rocks since he couldn’t do anything with his other arm.
Then Jiang Cheng looked at Wei Wuxian and the glare he gave his shidi was so cold and contentious. Tears freely flowed from his eyes and his teeth were seething in rage.
It was laughable, actually, how Wei Wuxian was willing to get killed by Jiang Cheng just a while ago; and that somehow, it never occurred to him that Jiang Cheng was so adamant to kill Wei Wuxian that he would go to extreme lengths such as to harm Lan Zhan, who was the only one between Wei Wuxian and death.
He looked at Lan Zhan whose dilated eyes and bloody mouth will forever haunt Wei Wuxian even in his afterlife. He wanted to know the extent of the damage but Lan Zhan won’t do anything. He doesn’t even screech in pain or grunt or growl or anything at all to convey whether he was fine or dying.
But Wei Wuxian wouldn’t be able to do anything about it anyway. The best he can do is to quickly fall to his doom so that Lan Zhan can tend to himself and recover.
It was so easy to let go now that Lan Zhan’s grip had loosened. But apparently, the only thing that was tethering Lan Zhan to the rocky ground was the sword brutally sticking to his body. The moment Jiang Cheng drew it out, Lan Zhan’s body easily slipped down.
And they were both falling.
Wei Wuxian’s shock was momentary as he frantically pulled his zhiji to his chest, wrapping his arms around his body and feeling the liquid substance from his back that was blood.
Wei Wuxian didn’t dare to let go. He kept Lan Zhan in his arms, as if doing so would save his precious zhiji from harm.
It wouldn’t.
Wei Wuxian had mere seconds to contemplate and regret what he had done. That it was a bad idea to stick to his single-log bridge until dark after all.
Not when he forced people to go with him. To meet the same fate as him.
His shijie… then his zhiji…
Wei Wuxian wanted to have a last look at his shidi. But he was already so far away and Wei Wuxian decided it was fine since he didn’t know what look to give anyway. Was it of fondness or contempt?
With tears streaking his face and a ragged breathing next to his ear, Wei Wuxian placed a loving hand at the back of Lan Zhan’s head.
The long awaited impact finally came.
@lianhuaes sent: he arrives swiftly to the gates of the unclean realm, a disciple holding something rather medium-sized covered by a wisteria-toned silk sheet— in his own hand, there is a book in which it contains artworks of birds and various flora. when he's given permission to enter, it's with swift, hurried, and purposeful movements that he goes to seek his partner out— eager to give him the gifts he picked up after seeing them and thinking that the man will love them. when he spots huaisang, he stops a few steps away and composes himself in a way where the eagerness is slightly invisible (though he's sure huaisang is able to pick it apart). "a'sang," he nods, gesturing for his head disciple to step forward with the gift. "think nothing of this as i simply saw it and bought it on a whim. it is— for you." stilted and awkward, the yunmeng jiang sect leader sniffs, keeping his gaze on the wisteria sheet covering the gilded cage. a soft chirp can be heard from within. "it is a 楔尾伯劳 (xiē wěi bó láo / chinese grey shrike)."
Huaisang was just finished with today's audiences when he's told a guest has arrived. No, not one more, he thinks to himself, until it's announced that the guest is Jiang-zongzhu. Suddenly the tiredness evaporates and he straighten up a bit, hearing that his partner is here. A quick glance down to make sure his clothes aren't too wrinkled and a quick hand to feel over his braids, making sure he looks presentable. If it was up to him, he would've been able to freshen up before seeing Wanyin, but there's not time for that before one of his disciples announce "Jiang-zongzhu." and steps aside.
As soon as his eyes lands on the familiar figure, tall and muscular, back straight and stride confident, Huaisang's stomach makes a flip and a smile immediately appears on his lips. "A-Cheng," he greets him back, noticing that the man seems unusually keen. Also noticing the bird cage, because there's no way you can hide what it is for Huaisang, he has figured out why the man is here before he even speaks.
Hearing the words from Wanyin, as well as the soft chirping, Huaisang gets up from where he's been seated for all the audiences and glides over to where the Jiangs are standing. He gives Wanyin a soft look first, before his hazel eyes drifts over to the cage. Gently he removes the silk from the cage, earning some more chirping and he can't help but smile fondly at the small feathered creature. "Oh, A-Cheng, it's beautiful..." and it truly was. Many might find them boring, but Huaisang loved the soft shades of white and grey mixed with the bold stripes and patches of black. The bird itself had inched its way closer to Huaisang, like most birds, it seemed fascinated by the man, he truly had a way with his feathered friends. "Thank you," he adds, his gaze going back to Wanyin and then also noticing the book. "What is that?" he asks, wondering why he might be carrying a book around. Is it another gift? Or perhaps something he wishes to show him?
This is how it goes down I am 100% sure:
Nie Huaisang: Da-ge, there’s something that…I think it’s time to tell you about. Something important to me.
Nie Mingjue: I’m listening.
Nie Huaisang: I—well—I am in love. I’m in love with someone who loves me back. The problem is that we can’t—our relationship can never be public, I fear.
Nie Mingjue: Oh? What’s his name? Do I know him?
Nie Huaisang: *squints because he’s pretty sure he’d reMEMber telling his da-ge that he likes men and he was pretty sure that was half of what he was ABOUT to tell him*
Nie Mingjue: *smiles blandly and blinks at him; a fun little trick he learned from Lan Xichen*
Nie Huaisang: *gives up on the staring contest* It’s—it’s Jiang-zongzhu.
Nie Mingjue: … *wheezes*
Nie Huaisang: Da-ge???
Nie Mingjue: For three VERY weird seconds I forgot Jiang Fengmian was dead and I thought that’s who you were referring to. PLEASE just call Jiang Wanyin by his name. I do know it.
Nie Huaisang: Holy—ew no can you IMAGINE??? Oh Madam Yu would have KILLED me. But no. No. Ew. Yeah. The hot young sexy sect leader Jiang Cheng.
Nie Mingjue: Okay. Next time I see him I’ll threaten him.
Nie Huaisang: That’s…it? That’s all you’re going to say?
Nie Mingjue: Huaisang, when have you ever made my life easier? Of course you fall madly in love with another leader of a major sect when you yourself are going to lead a major sect one day and it would cause a massive scandal if you had a public relationship. That’s just how you are. If he’s good to you and he makes you happy, what else is there to say? Besides that I’ll break his legs if he hurts you, of course.
Nie Huaisang, sniffing: DA-GE……
Nie Mingjue: Oh please don’t start crying I’ve been awake for like half an hour I can’t handle that right now
Saturday-Tuesday T & G reading
Skipped reading on Friday.
Finished
Teen:
the one where Jiang Wanyin finds out (and swears more than Mian Mian), by ShippersList (3rd in a series)
Luo Qingyang was very happy that Wei Wuxian had a new core but she could do with a bit less drama in her life.
(But as long as it was happening, she was going to enjoy the fuck out of it.)
the one where Jiang Yanli visits (and she's a fucking goddess), by ShippersList (4th in a series)
Wei Wuxian’s sister was a fucking goddess so it was a travesty she wasn’t being fucked like a goddess deserved.
Luo Qingyang decided to do something about it.
(Also, family feels and some plotting but that's beside the point.)
the one with the fucking baby talk (...you did this to yourself, Mian Mian), by ShippersList (5th in a series)
A-Yuan wanted to know where babies come from. Wei Wuxian, as usual, didn’t have a fucking clue.
Did Luo Qingyang really have to do everything around here?
He Still Cares, by Xuěhuā (Snow_F8)
Jiang Cheng shows up at the Qiongqi Path ambush, and he and Jin Zixuan realize someone has set Wei Wuxian up. They bring him (safely) back to Koi Tower and truths begin to come out…not all of them to Wei Wuxian’s liking.
Problematic but Cute, by SunflowerSupreme
Well, now there was a three year old in the Unclean Realm.
Jin Guangyao looked down at A-Yuan, who had loudly said ‘look what I can do yellow-gege’ and stuck his entire fist in his mouth.
Cute.
Problematic, but cute.
CEO Billionaire Lan Zhan, by detention_notes
Oh, Wei Ying.
Would he ever notice a humble billionaire such as Lan Zhan? Wei Ying, with his Costco T-shirts...his lilting smile...his sexy, sexy financial ineptitude...
Lan Zhan burst away from the window and then ripped apart his bed canopy with his bare hands. After the destruction was complete he shivered and called his bank.
“500k. Wei Ying. Wire transfer,” he said lowly into the phone. The teller asked for his name. “Anonymous,” he growled. He bit his arm with passion.
What Happens In The Teahouse, Stays In The Teahouse, by PotterheadAvengerDemigod, theAbandoned_Grimoire
No matter that the five of them are some of the best cultivators of their generation, they cannot take an entire group of Wen cultivators and Wen Xu in the middle of a crowded tea house full of civilians.
But they also cannot stay silent forever, because an occupied tea room without any talking? That was suspicious.
And no matter that it would be rude beyond measure to barge uninvited into someone else’s private room, they knew that would not stop the Wen sect if they wanted to.
...All their voices are recognisable. None of them would be able to speak without being immediately recognised, and a gathering of three of five major sect leaders and their respective right-hand men would be as good as a declaration of war to QishanWen. It was a war that they could not afford to start. Not yet. Not now.
/OR/ The one that sounds serious but is really just crack on how much Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are huge trolls and everyone just kind of wants them to get a room.
Let It Go, by iSwallowMy_converse
And in that moment, a voice that suspiciously sounds like A-Xian's voice when he's conspiring something with A-Cheng or younger disciples for a prank resonated in her head.
'Aren't you tired of being nice? Don't you want to go apeshit?'
Confessions of a Lan, by StoriesOnlyScarsCanTell
“This way, I can say I like you and you will never know.”
just to fill my cup, by Lirelyn
“I know what you’re thinking,” he insisted, “and you’re a fucking idiot. You think it’s not fair that I have a core and you don’t. You think your life has been hard. You think the worst possible thing has happened to you.” He knew it was true, because he remembered thinking that. He’d lain in bed for days like a fool, believing that nothing could be worse than losing every hope of cultivation. “You hate seeing me because I have something that you don’t, and I —” he choked on the words. “You have no fucking idea.”
The other Jiang Cheng’s face grew more and more contemptuous as he talked. “You’re wrong,” he said icily. “I don’t want a single thing you have. Not at the price you paid.”
Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian find themselves in a world where things went differently.
Nie Huaisang's unexpected stance, by maya_brainstormed (mayachain)
The whole cultivation world is marching on Nightless City. No one can quite understand why Nie Huaisang is coming.
Floating Cloud and Flowing Water, by friedchickenlord
Sometimes, rather than being stubborn and waiting for what is already broken to fix itself, it is better to let go. Sometimes, rather than letting her pride run rampant, it is better to give up. Sometimes, to get your own happiness, it is better to leave everything and start anew.
And that is what Yu Zixuan does.
Teen:
Tricks of the Trade, by nirejseki
In which Meng Yao, later Jin Guangyao, sets his heart upon the most unlikely of targets.
(five times Jin Guangyao tricked Lan Qiren into hugging him, and one time he didn't have to)
Pocketful of Soul, by Jenrose
“It’s a kid?” Wei Wuxian says to Wen Qing. “What’s a kid doing dabbling with the ghostly path? Talking to my ghosts?” He sounds indignant.
“Perhaps you should ask him,” Wen Qing says dryly.
“Kid, why are you using demonic cultivation?” Wei Wuxian asks.
“It works better when you want to work with spirits, rather than fight them,” Mo Xuanyu says. “And I’m not using demonic cultivation, I merely greeted your spirit and told him I was a friend and needed to talk to you. Well, something to that effect. Intention matters more than intonation with this stuff.”
“Who taught you that?” Wei Wuxian asks, his voice shifting from indignation to intrigue.
“You did,” Mo Xuanyu says. “Or well, your notes did, hmmm… five or six years from now.”
Wei Wuxian wags a scolding finger at him and says, “You should be developing your golden core, not dabbling around with things you don’t under—Did you say five years from now? As in, in the future?”
OR: What if instead of Sacrifice Summon, Mo Xuanyu discovered Wei Wuxian’s flawed time travel talisman?
A Mo Xuanyu-centric found family time travel looping epic.
Talking is Better than Silence, by blackcatkuroi, KuroiWrites (blackcatkuroi)
"This path harms the body. Harms the nature of one's heart even more." Lan WangJi spoke those words upon first seeing Wei Wuxian alive after the Burial Mounds, unknowing of the truth.
Wei Wuxian, though, didn't need to be told, and he accepted that he'd lost whatever he might have once had with Lan WangJi. Several nights later, in a moment of drunken weakness under the melancholic light of a full moon, he tells Lan WangJi the Truth. He'd never needed Lan WangJi to spell out his fate for him - he'd known since he walked out of the Burial Mounds alive.
But one small bit of honesty can go a long way, and Talking is far better than Silence.
To Forget Worldly Matters, by StoriesOnlyScarsCanTell
“I plant potatoes and radishes, Wei Ying.”
“Potatoes? What... Where did you get all of this money, Lan Zhan?!”
“I am rich enough.”
Or Lan Wangji decided to start a new life with A-Yuan in a remote village.
Fortuitous, by apathyinreverie
It’s quite the scandal. When, in the aftermath of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji having disappeared into the cold caves for more than a day, it comes out that the Twin Jades of Lan have somehow managed to ensnare the virtues of both Twin Prides of Yunmeng.
What has long been concealed, by Gaby007
The Burial Mounds change everything falling in their grasp, Wei Wuxian is well-placed to know it. Lan Wangji is rather nonplussed when he learns his beloved's secret yet seizes the opportunity to finally bring the Yiling Patriarch to Gusu and keep him safe.
Now, he just has to keep Wei Ying hidden from the cultivation world, and maybe he will get to learn some secrets of the Lan sect as he does.
Couldn't Scream Couldn't Shout, by mermorgie
Frustrated and desperate to stop hearing Wei Wuxian’s voice echo in his ears, Lan Wangji makes a mistake with the Lan silencing spell that he cannot undo.
Temporarily muted, Wei Wuxian struggles to pretend that he’s fine, while Lan Wangji struggles to make it up to him.
General:
Two Heart As One, by Shadoak_uwu
Wei Wuxian and The Junior Quarter were thrown into the past when they almost died because of an assassination from Jin Guanyao followers.
With his baby 8 month old in his stomach, will Wei Wuxian manage to go back with the Juniors to their own timeline, or he need to stay there and create a No war Au so everyone can finally be happy.
Patriarch, by WithBroomBefore
Fix-it AU diverging from canon during the second Nightless City battle. A number of people don't die, but that does not make things easy.
Sect Leader Yao: That’s a terrible plan! It’ll kill us all!
Jiang Wanyin: If it kills you that’s a fucking bonus, asshole.
