dude i swear if i actually make gang's bay a real show and i write a joke about being trans people are gonna be like "this is incredibly offensive to trans people" and im gonna have to come out and be like "yall im literally a trans person writing myself im just having a laugh why cant you too"
like seriously where's the line between a joke poking fun for laughs and a joke that's actually offensive? i feel like that's a little bit subjective dontcha think
#sorry i literally cant stop thinking about this#i think we need to learn how to laugh at our own imperfections and just our attributes in general#even when they're being joked about from an outside perspective#people laugh at italian stereotypes and little german boy and conservative cartoons actively trying to offend queer people#oh but when a guy known to make fun of autistics makes a video making fun of 20-years-old european music suddenly thats bad#i feel like this ties into the whole idea of critical thinking too. which people are actively getting worse at on all sides#people need to learn to lighten up. not everything needs to either be 'safe to enjoy' or 'actively avoid this bad thing because its bad'#i actively watch helluva boss despite all the controversy around it. i dont give a fuck it's a funny show about hell whatever#i've been trying to avoid saying it because i was afraid people would block me about it. personally i dont have an opinion on the drama#it's just. swagever dude! im so tired of controversy over media actually what the fuck ever i dont care#there's an episode of clone high where they have a REALLY stereotyped charicature of adhd. i watch it anyway bc it's silly#are people boycotting the new spiderverse over the alleged stress workers faced? doesnt fucking seem like it!#idk maybe im just stubborn. or people REALLY need to grow thicker skin and lighten up#there is almost ALWAYS gonna be problems with something you like. learn to not give a shit and have fun anyway

Alright, imma go on a rant here, because I had this in my mind for a while and I need to spill them out.
I used to be in this fandom known as The Heroes of Goo Jit Zu, which is a kids show you can find on YouTube. Months ago I had left the fandom for the second time and never looked back on it. How did I leave the first time and the second time? Well, here's where I'll begin my rant.
When I first got into the fandom, one of my friends who was already in the fandom made a post about some hate she got for shipping her self-insert with one of the main characters in the show, Blazagon. Basically, it's a shipping battle between her ship and the Blazagon x Pantaro ship (Pantaro is one of Blazagon's friends canonically). I once admitted that I liked Blazagon x Pantaro. Lemme tell you, one of her friends said to me in response "Oh, so you hate Nicole x Blazagon?" Note, I NEVER said it was better, never said Nicole x Blazagon was "bad". I told her that I never said that. Her response was just "But you said you like Blazagon x Pantaro." Okay, so? Multi Shipping is kinda what I like to do for fun. I can't exactly what I told her next, but I remember her response to whatever I said is "Okay, but don't say you hate Nicole x Blazagon, it'll make her depressed". My thoughts were just 'Why is she on the Internet then?' This shipping battle went on for a while and eventually I just left the fandom to get away from it. Scrapped everything related to the series.
The second reason is pretty uncomfortable, even for me, so if you don't wanna give it a read, that's all right with me. If you guys wish to share this, I'll leave that up to you.
Not long after I rejoined, it was SO much worse. There was someone harassing my friend and threatening to dox her on a porn page. I went up and commented on one of his videos saying he can harass me instead, just so he leaves my friend alone. That's exactly what he did. Harassed me to no end, making fun of me for being autistic, threatened to dox me, sent me porn to defend himself, said he had tamed me, and whatnot. All of this was because he hated Goo Jit Zu (which is fine if you don't like it, but these actions are unacceptable regardless). He turned all of this into YouTube content in the process, so in the end, there was no way I could win on my own. He disguised himself as to enter my old Discord server, and admittedly, I was very stupid to let him in (and this was after I banned him from my server the first time, and he threatened to dox me if I didn't let him back in, making fun of me for being scared). He raided my server, hurting me and my friends who were in it. All this because "Goo Jit Zu is for antisocial furries" and "Digimon/Dragonball is god". My server was 98% Ben 10, Wii Deleted You, and Rainworld combined, so there's no actual benefit. My close friend and I went up and I added him to a group chat with the two of us, my friend recording it all. He brought his friends over and my god it was just insane. His friends made a lot of sexual comments towards my friend, sent us more porn, ect, my friend recording the entire thing. The entire Rainworld server, with thousands of people in the fandom, was made aware of this person before the group chat plan even started, hell, before my server was raided. I felt a lot of guilt, and the worst part is just finding out this person is YOUNGER than I am.
I pretty much left the fandom for my mental health. It was very bad, and I apologized to my friend for what I had put them through. The person still got away with it in the end.

Hi, I'm sorry for bothering you. How would Byakuya, Nagito, Gundam, Kokichi, and Gonta react to a s/o who has autism, and makes animal noises when happy? And one day they're out in public and someone makes fun of them so much they start crying? This recently happened to me. Thank you for your time
I know it's been a long while since this request was submitted, but I'm sorry that happened to you, that sucks. Since I'm autistic too and I like making goat noises as a vocal stim, I figured I should write this. I'm not the best at writing Byakuya, so that part might be a little weak, but I hope you like it!
~ Mod Tenko
+++
Byakuya Togami:
- Byakuya has a hard time getting across what he means sometimes, especially in terms of emotion, so he relates to a lot of your communication issues (even if he doesn't like to admit it).
- He was surprised by the animal noises at first, and wondered why you were making them, but once he found out it was a sign of happiness he accepted it.
- He won't admit it, but he finds your noises amusing and cute sometimes.
- But one day, while the two of you are reading in the library, some jerk started making fun of you for getting excited about your favorite part. Byakuya made sure to make his displeasure about that known.
- "How dare a plebian like you make fun of someone I, Byakuya Togami, love. Even if you weren't a common peasant you'd be scum, insulting someone for something so innocent."
- He makes sure to bring you away from the situation, and once word gets around that the jerk was on the wrong side of Byakuya, their reputation went down a lot – and fast.
- Byakuya let you know he will make sure no one gets away with making fun of you while he's around, and all was well.
Nagito Komaeda:
- He loves your noises! He also loves being able to take turns talking for long times about the things you two like; him with hope and talent, and you with your special interests.
- He even bought himself a stim toy, once he found out what they were through you, and to his surprise it's been rather calming.
- You suggested one day you two go watch a movie you were both looking forward too, and he readily agreed.
- As you're waiting for the movie to start, he's whispering to you as you occasionally make a noise in excitement.
- That was when the asshole behind you two made some loud commentary about your noises to the person next to him, and when Nagito heard your sniffles he immediately turned to the guy who was gossiping.
- "Pardon me, but I believe that someone as low as you should shut up and stop talking about those who don't concern you. It really is pathetic that you feel the need to try and snuff out the light of other, lovely people, you know."
- As soon as he finished speaking, Nagito led you to a different seat on the other side of the theatre.
- The rest of the movie was uneventful, and Nagito's luck even caused you to accidentally get a bunch of candy from a broken vending machine later, as payment for him seeing you sad.
Gundham Tanaka:
- He thought you were imitating the Four Dark Devas as first with your squeaks. But then he found your noises were simply noises of joy, and was amused that mortals, too, can make the noises of beasts to express emotions.
- He finds it fun to interpret your squeaks and tell you if you manage to accidentally say something in a certain animal tongue. Most of what you say is just occasional words in hamster or guinea pig, but you'll never forget the time Gundham fell out his seat in shock and laughter when you somehow said, "The broccoli is on the roof; we ride at midnight."
- It was during a grooming session where you got to brush a bunny's very soft fur that an asshole from one of the other classes popped in to see what was going on.
- "Wow, is little y/n whining again? Do you want to – ack!"
- They didn't even get a chance to finish what they were saying before Gundham was standing before them with an intimidating glare.
- "A mortal such as yourself would not be able to comprehend the abilities of one used to speaking in a beast's tongue. Now, I demand you leave or I shall banish you from my presence with the power of a thousand demons!"
- They left, understandably, and Gundham blushed when you thanked him for standing up for you.
- "I-it was nothing, my Darkness... Foolish mortals typically spread hate when faced with a might they cannot comprehend..."
Kokichi Ouma:
- Kokichi was the type to make fun of you at first, but he quickly got over that long before the two of you started dating.
- When he found out you made goat bleats when excited, he was all too happy to join in.
- Now, whenever you let out a bleat, you can hear him do the same from down the hall. Sometimes you bleat back and forth for fun!
- One day, though, someone just had to make a comment after you let out a quiet bleat while playing your favorite video game.
- "Oh my god, why are you –"
- They didn't make it any further than that before Kokichi let out a very loud bleat of his own and dumped a bottle of Panta over their head.
- They stomped off to clean themself, and Kokichi joked about how pathetic they were, staying with you to watch you play and bleat some more with you.
- No one bothered you after that show of protectiveness.
Gonta Gokuhara:
- Like Gundham, he's able to understand you if you say something in animal language. The difference is that he didn't even think you were imitating an animal, he just thought you spoke in it sometimes!
- It took him a while to understand. But once he got it, he got it!
- He also has trouble connecting to people, and he's been embarrassed on more than one occasion when someone's tone or body language flew over him. So he understands your struggles when it comes to understanding others!
- When someone made fun of you in class when you made a noise after getting a tough question right, Gonta wasn't even angry, just really sad and confused.
- "Um, excuse Gonta, but... You shouldn't make fun of people for expressing themselves. That's not very nice. Also, plenty of animals make noise for no reason other than expressing emotion! So it is understandable for humans to do this too, because humans are also animals! ... Ah, Gonta apologizes if he's not making sense."
- The girl tried to just brush off what Gonta was saying, but the teacher told her to knock it off.
- After class, you got to tell Gonta how much you appreciated what he did.
- "Gonta just wanted to make sure y/n was happy and safe! People who make fun of others aren't very gentleman-like, and Gonta thought it best to tell her that she wasn't being very nice."
- You smiled and told him you appreciated it.

Could you please liveblog the making of Sonne?
I got a few of the same request yes hello
Fun fact everyone already knows Sonne was my first Rammstein experience (that I remember). The video was played at least once a day on kerrang and my dad would play it to help me sleep when I was a bairn.
Okay was it a fan added thing or was Oli stoned when he had the idea? It seems like a stoned thing to do
Maybe it's because I grew up around mining towns but... Hot.
They all look so cute schneider looks like a Rat
"did touring in the US have any influence on the album?"
"Nope" the most adorable twisty smile I've ever seen
"I hope not"
*very strange noises from Richard that I have never heard before or since* "it wasn't an influence"
Does till drink super strangely out of that cup or am I overanalysing?
This hair is what immediately comes to mind when I think Till Lindemann
Rat. Rodent man.
It's interesting that they're all saying such soft lovely things about making the album as if nothing happened and everything was fine the whole time. I guess it's nice they didn't just sit and complain about each other though. Love and solidarity.
Richard. Looks very nice :) good shoulders. Next person who meets him say good job growing those shoulders. More people should wear tank tops I feel.
God they're all so adorable I have to keep replaying bits.
He does say Glück auf right? Why did they have to completely soot him up is it because the truth looks a little silly?
The grin at Richard will end me one day.
@struwwelzeter I think? Once pointed out that he says irgendwie a lot and ever since I've been unable to not hear it when he says it in the last minute he's said it at least twice. I mean I get it I too have things I say a lot but god it's worse than "you know?"
It's just such a long sound to make as filler? It has three syllables
I love the way he's talking and would like a full documentary of him just discussing things like this just ask a vague question and let him run with it
It's so nice hearing from Oli always I think he does it on purpose. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that. A treat
Schneider is a dumbass yes but his intelligence also. He's right, you don't actually have to do what you're supposed to as long as you're doing good work
"we tried to make songs we'd still like in two years" smart move, they're playing several of those songs still not far off two decades later
I can really feel Paul's accent when he talks right after someone else it's so round and I love it but I do worry that if I ever decide to properly learn German I will accidentally develop his accent
Schneider doing the pounding will be the death of me actually that's what'll do it
Why does Richard just kind of lick the spoon I can almost hear the found of his jaw clicking shut
I like Jörn a lot. Im tempted to hit him over the autistic thing but in his defence that was fifteen years ago
It's really cool actually that they use the same few directors for the most part, I love seeing how their ideas and techniques have evolved even though I don't know very much about that kind of stuff. Sonne vs Ausländer.
It doesn't help that they made Paul look MINISCULE next to till in this shot. Why does he seem to like the short jokes? I suppose he gets them a lot he has known flake since he was 18
Till is so ! giggly ! In this video ! He is enjoying this so so much! Like a proper big laugh teeth fully out
The boys slow motion headbanging together gets me in my feelings for some reason it's just very sweet and fun
They too look high
The entire "we wanted to name it Herzeleid" bit almost always has me cry-laughing for some reason it's just so Him and so Funny and Cute and you can see his own amusement building inside of him as he prepares to deliver the line
There is already a Herzeleid album and unfortunately it is also by us
He's a pretty man I love when you can see that glint in his eyes
Did Paul mispronounce synthesiser?
Till eats like he's the youngest of six children have you ever noticed that?
The Cain Instinct rising within Paul and nobody moving to stop him. Flake and Schneider just stare and wait to see what he'll do looking just a little concerned. He looks like he's trying to explain and demonstrate something to Schneider but I don't know what he's saying just before he does it
It's funny that their objectively best song was written for and seemingly rejected by a boxer. It's obvious if you know but if you don't you'd have no idea
That sounds very silly im sorry I still have ok stick in my head
Till is flirting. I think Till is flirting. Too many little genuine smiles.
Have any if you played Skyrim? Schneider is sitting in that chair like a Jarl in a bonnet
I think Paul just picks random numbers any time he needs numbers. What was it, 37 extra new songs after the untitled album was finalised? 27? I don't trust him.
Oli is refusing it seems to take credit and also talking like a sub just saying don't @ me
Ways the dwarves. Were right.
A little bit indignant? Yeah rather shocked
Poor Robert hhh
I'm not saying Paul seems excited about being spanked but what I am saying is
Tumblr media
He can't explain it but I think we all can
God till is pretty in this tree bit
"eins, zwei, drei, oh!" Typical Schneider behaviour and I truly do adore.
Putting Paul on Olis side was a choice that was made
I really do appreciate just how much work they put into all the details of this, I don't know what professionals think but I for one think they did an amazing job. No wonder they kept hold of Jörn
The boys doing their cuddles! I wonder why there isn't more fic based on Sonne, I think I've only read one or two? Is it because you guys don't know enough about mining because I don't think anyone would mind
I would do many things for a documentary with Paul as the David Attenborough type figure
There's something so charming about Till arguing about the logic of finding out snow white is dead(?) and whether or not Schneider needs to inform them of that fact
Of course they'd put Schneider first look at his little suspicious face
Okay this but they go into way more detail about their favourite parts.
Flake likes to grumble but he is also the most genuinely content man I have ever layed eyes on. If he's with the band he's happy.
Olis little gesture is the cutest actually?
Okay yeah you can totally tell they made up and it's all water under the bridge they worked it out and are happy
Nevermind, Flake just had to do it. "Perhaps in time we'll learn that not everyone has to concern themselves with everything" honey you can say Richard, Paul and Schneider it's okay
They learned to trust each other, basically. They accept the support and help and recognise the expertise of the others. A lot of bands never find that. A lot of people in general never find that, actually.
I still cannot tell whose laugh is the fucking ridiculous one, it's either Richard or Schneider and I think it's Schneider despite Richard looking like a yawning dog
Oh that's Paul's partner next to him right? With the red hair?
Who is the dude till is cuddling with? He looks familiar is he in the ITDW making of?
Tumblr media
I do love to see a gaggle of giggling boys
Okay no it's schneider, the fool. His laugh is completely unrestrained and cascading and barking and odd and its glorious to behold.
I would love to see them watch and reach to their older making ofs because so much of it is mirrored. What Paul says about it needing to be fun, the Keine Lust thing that. Actually that's also about it needing to just be for fun. Hm. Still, do it.
Tills joke about getting to that point in the next twenty years how did he knowwwwwww
Fortunately I can knock on wo—thats not wood
Alleth gut, he says.

The Silver Screen Savant, pt 2- the Meh, the Bad and The yikes.
Hello Writers!
Last time here on Starry Starry Write, I talked a little about Autism in the media and my personal experiences therein. Today, I’d like to go a little broader, and tackle the topic from a macro perspective.
In recent times, you’ve probably heard “Representation Matters” oft repeated. Especially in prominent talking spaces like social media. But what does that mean, exactly?
Why “Representation Matters,” and how.
The short answer:
Tumblr media
Diverse representation in media tells us that everyone has a place in the world. That everyone’s story matters.
The long answer:
It’s no secret that we begin engaging with media at a young age. When I was growing up in the 90’s and 00’s, TV and video games were often the babysitters of my peers. I was one of the few kids in my neighborhood whose parents weren’t divorced. The kids I knew? Not so much. Most of them were raised by single parents, grandparents and of course-the boob tube. I personally prefered books, when my mom wasn’t yelling “it’s too nice out to be holed up in that dark bedroom!”
Now, don’t mistake my preference for some kind of intellectual superiority. I watched plenty of TV too. Besides, books aren’t magically out of the equation. Printed material is our oldest form of media. And- often just as problematic. Though I will say- I saw a much broader range of people on covers adoring library shelves than I ever did titles on a TV roster. But, I digress. The point is: for many of us, consuming media begins at an early time of our life. And that’s where the problem starts. Even in my childhood, where The Magic School Bus, Hey Arnold, and Sesame Street showed people of all kinds, I can point to many that did not. Especially not people like me. Which did me a grave disservice. I didn’t know I was on the spectrum for a long time, and when I finally found out, I was horrified, thanks to what I had seen on TV.
Because media is not only a wonderful way to learn about people that don’t look, act or sound like us. It also informs our ideas of who we are, and what we can be. Whether we like it or not: it shapes how we understand the world. And it doesn’t stop with Childhood.
Time Changes Much, but not all.
Tumblr media
Things are better now. Well, a little bit, anyway.
As an adult, I see more people like me on the screen nowadays. Which is nice.
Ish.
Why “ish?” Well…
Frequently, these “noticeably different” characters (read: Autistically coded) are branded “NOT AUTISTIC!” You heard it here first, folks! That one character (insert your favorite) is Totally Not Autistic. Despite being written in a way that gives every indication otherwise.
*Facepalm*
Now for some examples, which we’ll call the “Meh,” “The Bad” and the “Yikes.” For “fun,” we’ll also go into the off-air perceptions of the characters.
The “Meh.”
Tumblr media
First on the list is Dr. Spencer Reid, from CBS’s “Criminal Minds.”
Dr. Reid is the youngest member of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, having joined at the age of 22. He holds three B.A degrees in Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy, as well as three Ph.D’s in Engineering, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
He also has the social skills of a limp dishrag. Wait, what’s that? High Intelligence + Low Social Awareness? Hmmm…Then there’s his restrictive behavioral patterns, obsessive interests, and general “quirkiness!” that we could talk about. But let’s hear a quote from the actor who plays him, Matthew Gray Gubler:
“..an eccentric genius, with hints of schizophrenia and minor autism, Asperger’s Syndrome. Reid is 24, 25 years old with three PH.D.s and one can’t usually achieve that without some form of autism.”
Hoooo-boy. I could go into all the things wrong with this, including why the term “Asperger’s” is both horrific (TW: Eugenics,Ableism, N*zis) and harmful. However, today we’ll simply leave it with the fact that this term is no longer applicable, having been reclassified in 2013 as part of Autism Spectrum disorder.
The “Bad.”
Tumblr media
Next up, we have Will Graham, from NBC’s Hannibal.
Like our first example, Will works for the FBI. He’s a gifted criminal profiler with “special” abilities, namely hyper empathy, which allows him to reconstruct the actions and fantasies of the killers he hunts. He’s intellectually gifted, hates eye contact, socializing, and prefers to spend…most of his time…alone.
Oh dear. Haven’t we been here before? But, I mean, he doesn’t have Autism! The show runner says so!
For Will Graham, there’s a line in the pilot about him being on the spectrum of autism or Asperger’s, and he’s neither of those things. He actually has an empathy disorder where he feels way too much and that’s relatable in some way. There’s something about people who connect more to animals than they do to other people because it’s too intense for whatever reason.
You can’t see me right now, but I’m cringing. A lot. This is just…ugh. I mean, for starters, I know a handful of autistic people who struggle with hyper empathy, which can make social situations overwhelming and hard to navigate. In fact, I happen to be one of them. Plus, there’s a cool little thing about how, frequently, people on the spectrum more readily identify with animals. But, y’know. Who am I to say? I’m just someone, one of many, who’s dealt with this my whole life.
Now, onto the “Yikes.”
Tumblr media
*sigh*
And finally, we have BBC’s Sherlock, a modern adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s renowned “consulting” detective, and probably the most famous fictional character of all time.
Now, I’ll start by saying that the BBC incarnation is not the first to be Spectrum labeled. In fact, Sherlock was my childhood hero, and the first “person” I saw referred to this way. My aunt, an avid reader herself, casually remarked to a friend “I’ve always wondered if Holmes is Autistic,” after I came yammering on about how fantastic the books were. Had I not been champing at the bit to get back to my reading, I might have asked her what that meant.
I also believe this fandom driven speculation is why many detective type characters (see above) are often coded as Autistic, intentionally or otherwise.
In this New York Times article, Lisa Sanders, M.D. describes Holmes traits:
He appears oblivious to the rhythms and courtesies of normal social intercourse — he doesn’t converse so much as lecture. His interests and knowledge are deep but narrow. He is strangely “coldblooded,” and perhaps as a consequence, he is also alone in the world.
Now, before we go any father, let me take a moment to defend his creator. During the time Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first created his most famous work, Autism was not known. That isn’t to say it didn’t exist. We’ve always existed. In fact, it’s now believed that the Changeling Myth, a common European folk story, was a way to explain Autism. In one telling (there are a few) children displaying “intelligence beyond their years” and “uncanny knowledge” were imposters, traded out by Fae creatures for offspring of their own. Children believed to be “Changlings,” regretfully, often came to a bad end. A chilling reminder that the stories we tell impact our real lives.
So while Autism was at least somewhat recognized, it did not become its own official diagnosis until 1943.
Meanwhile, Sherlock Holmes was first published in 1892. Now, as a writer who often draws from my personal reality, I imagine Doyle probably “wrote what he knew,” which is to say, acquainted with one or more Autistic people, he used them as inspiration.
On the other hand…
BBC’s Sherlock first aired in 2010. And while one might argue that the writers simply capitalized on the Autistic fan-theory, or took already available traits and exaggerated them for their version… they left a lot to be desired. Autism aside, this new Sherlock is…well…an asshole. Narcissistic, abusive and egocentric (to name a few) he sweeps his caustic behavior under the rug of “high functioning sociopath,” and blytly ignores the consequences.
Which is a major problem. Because while doing this, he’s still “obviously” (at least in the Hollywood sense) Autistic. In my previous post, where I said some characters are “too smart™, and logical© to ever have feelings, friends or empathy,” this is what I meant.
This is bad. We’re looping right back to Representation Matters. Bad representation, and the navigating of such, is just as important for writers to think about as good representation. Maybe even moreso. Because bad representation paints real people into cardboard, stereotyped people-shaped things. It otherizes. And it’s harmful. You would not believe the people I’ve met assume I’m not Autistic because I’m not an egotistical jerk. Why? Because they watched, you guessed it, BBC Sherlock.
Confession time:
Tumblr media
Now here’s my little secret:
I love all of these characters. They are some of my favorite on tv. Why? Because for good or ill, I recognize myself in them. Finally, I can turn on the TV, and see myself. Or, somewhat, anyway.
My favorite character out of this list? Loath though I am to admit it… Is Sherlock. See, what those well meaning folks didn’t know (the ones who say I’m I’m “too nice,” to be Autistic) is… well, if we’re being honest, I wasn’t always nice. A few years ago, I was that guy. I was a jerk because I thought I was the smartest person in the room. Which is really not a good look. In fact, sitting down and watching the first season of sherlock, (around three or four years after it came out) made me realize how much of a jerk I actually was.
There are other things there too. Things that tie me to all these characters, that I didn’t list. But that’s for another today.
For now, I’d like to add a caveat or two:
1) I’ve watched all the shows listed above, and adore them. As I mentioned, Sherlock is my favorite. He’s also the one I’ve watched the most (Repeatedly, in fact. Whoops.) and I recognize it’s not all bad. In the end, he learned to treat people better (somewhat) and certainly became more human over time. And, there are other deeply problematic elements of the show I’d like to tackle, eventually.
*cough* Queerbating! *cough*
2) I’m well aware that the above cases are all thin, white, able bodied, “straight” males. But I chose these characters for a couple of reasons. One, they’re the most prominent type on TV. Again, we loop back around to representation, and why we need more positive, diverse examples of it.
And finally-
3) In my last post, I mentioned I’d give some “good” instances of Hollywood Autism trope. But I didn’t exactly do that. Partially, because half way through, I thought…perhaps…I’m not the best to judge what might be a good Autistic character. I mean, I’m sure someone will read this and think my current aforementioned characters are fine. Heck! They might even argue my perception here, and say the characters are just fine. I accept that. In my life, both on and off the page, I recognize that I cannot, should not (and don’t want to) speak for an entire community.
Because of this, I cannot tell you how to write a “good” Autistic character, or what media is “acceptable.” I can’t even really tell you what a bad character is. Sure, I have a lot of opinions about it. But- if you’re on the spectrum and like and identify with the above? That’s fine. I mean, even with all the problems I noted (and some I didn’t) I certainly do.
On the other hand, if you’re a writer, and you want to write a character from this (or any, for that matter) community you aren’t part of, I caution you.
Do your research. Preferably from multiple credible sources.
Talk to people on the spectrum about what it’s really like. (Though try to steer clear of asking for emotional labor. You could, say, hop on reddit and ask the community there, for instance, which is a no pressure way to obtain potentially decent info.)
Finally, whatever you do, remember this-
Autistic people can look like anyone. We can act, and think and be different, like anyone. We are real, living, breathing people. Not robots, not sob stories, not tropes. People. So if you write about us, write us like people. And your work will be all the better for it.
-Your Loving Vincent

What’s Your Story?
(original date: 30 July 2016)
At ComicCon, two weeks ago, I got this free shirt that says "What's your story?". And now that I've been wearing it, every time I've looked in a mirror or just seen a reflection of myself, I have been wondering, what exactly is my story? Why am I the way I am? What made me like this? Where do I come from, and where do I go to? And I have thought a lot about this, to be honest. But I guess, I just gotta start at the beginning, right?
I am pretty bad with childhood memories. I barely know anything. Everything that I do know, I feel like only knowing because people told me or because I've seen pictures of it. Which honestly bums me out. I am also constantly not sure if things I feel like I actually do remember, aren't just things that I made up at some point. But anyways.
I grew up in a small-ish town in Switzerland. We've lived in other small-ish towns and villages before, but I was definitely too young to remember any of that. There are memories of me feeding my older half-brother, but I am quite sure that I only know this because there's a picture of it. Right now, I'd say my earliest memory is my half-brother (who's autistic by the way) helping my brother and me out of beds we couldn't get out on our own. I know that I know this. I was probably around three or four at the time. Anyways.
My parents got divorced when I was four. Although I have lived with my mom until I moved out this July, I never really connected with her as much as other girls do. Those good mother-daughter relationships you see in movies sometimes? We didn't have that. I was always very focused on the men in my family. My dad was my hero, even though I only saw him every second weekend and on special occasions like birthdays and Christmas. But he was my hero. Still is.
My brother was my role model from early childhood on. My mom always says, that I was always okay with everything that he chose to do or have. My brother wanted these pants? Me too. My brother wanted chocolate milk? Me too. Those were my most said words. "Me too."
My mom feared that I would be too dependent on his decisions and never be truly me, because I was okay with doing whatever he did. But I don't think that this is what happened. I just loved my brother. My dad wasn't always there because of the divorce, so my next go-to person was my brother, because I didn't see my mom as a role model or go-to person. We didn't connect like that.
My brother and me, we're 18 months apart. That's a wonderful age gap. It's not too close, but it's also not too far away to get along splendidly.
Of course, one of the reasons why I was always okay with doing/having what my brother did, was because I thought we were the same. As a child, I didn't really get the concept of gender or that there is a real difference between boys and girls. I just knew that some people had other parts than others, but I was like, yeah and? What does it matter?
I just knew that I always liked hanging out with boys more than I did with girls. I had this friend in kindergarten who I always stole Legos with. Then in first grade, I was seated next to a girl with the same last name as me, and we got along and I got to play at her house a lot, but in second grade I was back to being with boys. And I was friends with the same boy until probably fourth grade, then expanded my friend group - to even more boys. And they accepted me. I got to hang out with them, got to play video games with them, played with pokemon cards, played football. It wasn't until probably sixth grade that I actually got girl friends. And even then, my main friend group were still the boys. And I was kinda the "cool girl" because I got to hang out with them.
It was nothing I was striving for, but it happened nonetheless.
I remember that one of my best friends had a crush on me, and I didn't get it. I was oblivious to that. Until I cut my hair in sixth grade, and thus looked more boyish than ever before, and he lost his interest. In retrospect, I should've seen it. But it doesn't really matter anyway.
Then seventh grade came around - new teachers, new class - and I only had four of my old classmates left: two girls who I didn't spend that much time with, the guy who had had a crush on me and another guy who I had often played video games with, but more due to other people than actually him. So in short, four people I wasn't really that good friends with. So I had to find new ones.
As many of you might now, I am an insanely introverted person. Well, at least to new people. People who have known me for a long time often can't believe that I am actually very shy and introverted. But that is that.
I made friends rather quickly, though. Well, at least I think so. I got along well with pretty much everyone, but I mostly spent my time with one or two of the girls. But in the end, I didn't really bond with them that much, because I haven't talked to anyone of them in years. It didn't matter anyway, because I had to repeat 8th grade, and had new classmates anyway. And that is where I made friends, who I still see to this day and am still friends with. I'm even living with one of them! Which is great to be honest.
In the two years I was with those people, I changed a lot. I was always the tomboy, the girl dude. The bro that just so happened to be a girl, but nobody cared. But with those people, I think I finally wasn't the bro friend anymore. I was still the stereotype "cool girl" especially because I wasn't girly (I'm still not) and I didn't give two shits what people thought (still don't). But I got more girlier than before. I dressed less manly, could finally get to like tank tops, skinny jeans, and shorts that didn't cover my knees. Even jewelry! Well rings, mostly.
But I was still me; boyish, reckless, climbing-on-trees-and-falling-down self-destroy-ish.
My dad always wanted a son and a daughter. And that is what he got. I am not the typical daughter, the typical girl. But I have a lot in common with my dad, so I think he got the daughter he wanted, or he came around to accept that I would never be the girly girl. He loves me and I know that.
I know my mom loves me. And that she accepts me for who I am. But I think she always had more issues with me being the way I am, than my dad had. With me being so very boyish. We always fought when buying clothes. Oh, the memories. It was a war.
After ninth grade I went to grammar school. I only knew my friend Angie, but soon enough I got along with pretty much everyone in that class. I think I was still the "cool girl" which got me friends easily. I got along with the girls, I got along with the boys. I think I was good friends with everyone, with some exceptions obviously. I had friends in other classes as well. I wasn't typically popular, mind you, but I am friendly. People get along with me. People tell me I'm funny, trustworthy, loyal, a good friend.
I made a habit of getting along with teachers, too. Mostly teachers I didn't have class with, but still. The class teacher of the one's we had PE with, was one of those teachers. After the first half year, I decided that he was going to be my victim, and so after the skiing camp he became exactly that. I mocked him constantly. After a fantastic incident - I shouted across the school yard that I thought his pink shirt was extremely manly - he asked one of his students who was my friend, if I meant harm or if I was always like that. She told him that this was just who I was, and from that moment on he returned my "bullying". We had a great time. I tried to sell him shoes, he was my go-to person for pain killers, he mocked my headaches, he told me with the biggest smile to "shut the fuck up". We had a great time. I always have one or two teachers like that at every school I go to. My English and German teacher was the other victim. He was a great teacher, and I think he appreciated me as a student. I met him yesterday and he was very pleased to hear that I was going to study English. We had bitch fights in the middle of class. While everyone looked at me like I had death wishes, we had the greatest fun mocking each other. It was great.
I am no teachers pet. I just feel like you need at least one teacher you actually like and have a good relationship with, or else you won't make it through school without constant mental breakdowns.
Anyways. I am rabbit trailing (I would like to personally thank Zachary Levi for adding this word to my vocabulary).
As some of you might know, I am a Christian. Not the "it says on my papers that I am a Christian, so I am one" but actually an active Christian. I go to church. I pray. I believe. I wouldn't call myself religious. I am a person of faith. There's a difference.
Anyways. When I was in second grade, my mom got a job where she had to work shifts. So we got someone where we could go eat, and spend our free afternoons at. They are great people and I'm still friends with them. Their two children are basically my little siblings and I consider their daughter one of my best friends.
These people, this couple, were Christians, and they went to church in our town. I don't know exactly when my mom converted, but I know that we started going to that church, and I made friends for life. When I was twelve or thirteen, there was a baptism service coming up and I told my mom that I wanted that, too.
Usually, it is waaaaay to early to get baptised at twelve or thirteen. Mostly, teens are "allowed" to do so when they're sixteen or eighteen or whatever. But I felt like this was the right thing to do, so I did. And they let me.
Over the course of my life as a person of faith, I have always searched for role models. Someone I could look up to in that aspect of my life. I found a few. The dad of the two girls I live with at the moment was one of them. He was the pastor of our church, is a missionary in Central Africa now. Then there were various people from our church who I looked up to because they just have so much faith and trust. And in 2012 someone new made his way into my line of sight and is now not only a role model as a person of faith, but for life in general. In 2012, through the movie Avengers and through Tom Hiddleston, I discovered Zachary Levi. Who is not only a brother in Christ, but an all around good person in general and just the sweetest guy I have ever had the good fortune of meeting.
Through various interviews and NerdHQ panels, Zac has over and over again inspired me in so many ways. He inspires me to be more kind, to be more gentle, to be more passionate. He inspires me to trust God, to bring important decisions before God. He inspires me so much. Every time NerdHQ comes around again, or every time I just watch panels throughout the year, I get giddy and I'm full of energy to live my dreams, go out and change the world, be the best version of myself.
This year I have had the wonderful opportunity to finally attend NerdHQ and meet Zac for the first time. And he did not disappoint. He was everything I wished him to be. Even better. He gave me something so precious that I feel like this will fuel me for a very long time. With a simple sentence he changed my life more than he already has before. And I am eternally grateful for that.
"What's your story?" Well, my story is still in the first chapters. There's a lot more to come. I've been through things that I wish I hadn't. I lost people very dear to me. I'm still trying to find out some things about me. But there's one thing I know. God will help me write my story. He will be there every step of the way. God will put people in my life that help me figure out who I am, what to do, and where to go. He put Zac and NerdHQ in my life for a reason. And there's no way I am letting that go. Ever.
I told my mom yesterday that I plan to never miss NerdHQ ever again, if I can anyhow avoid it. She said, "that's big talk." But I'm not kidding. I will do everything in my power to never miss the awesomeness that is NerdHQ ever again. Those are four days of granted happiness. Why should I ever wanna miss that again? There are likeminded, amazing people who I wouldn't be able to see anywhere else. They don't live in Switzerland. They live all over America.
My story is about a girl who loves stories. And storytellers. I would love to be one, too. I get inspired every other day by stories I read or hear or see, and I would like to give back. Tell stories to inspire future generations, the way people like Zac have inspired me.
My story is about finding purpose in inspiring others. My story is about being passionate, "loving too much", knowing a shit ton of "fun facts" about movies and books and people I've never met in my life. My story is about me. Your average neighbourhood nerd. The kid next door. The introverted kid who doesn't seem introverted at all, once you get to know them.
So, that is me. What's your story?

some random numbers: 1, 3, 6, 15, 23, 31, 35, 40. give me ur ungodly long answers.
lmaooo YES brevity whom......i cannot be concise
1) favorite videos?
i sure spent 2010 - 2014 enjoying youtube horror interpersonal-drama series marble hornets, those are a good time. and here in the future you and i both know there is just a wellspring of wrol-related Video Content out there, god damn, i really love so many of them.....in between that there’s sure been a lot of fun and funney videos and like, some Artistique ones i like to revisit [or have disappeared :( ] but i always like to promote this Wuthering Heights one. i love it. oh lol!!!! and the uh, Skate 3 Glitch compilations!!! so so funny
3) favorite memes?
i think Deep Fried Memes are fun all the time lol. the Youtube Meme of “___ but ____” is a lot of fun OH YEAH steamed hams was awesome too. the 24601 Releases A Sammich On Parole ytp is priceless......this is just turning into favorite videos again lmao. vine as a meme and a whole
6)favorite mixes?
you know i never really made or used playlists lol!!!! i will just be like, in the mood for certain songs or else like “i want to listen to music but....which ones”.....i say i can never be concise and all of these answers turning out short lol. it’s not b/c i’m Concise but b/c like, i don’t know what Favorites i have and i don’t have a memory that works without Direct Reminders of Specific Things so i’m just failing to like, come up with the info in the first place smh
15) favorite fictional characters?
here we go lol i can answer this one cuz when i have a fave rave it’s rare and like, easier to remember cuz i do not Go Hard about it that often.....weirdly for the first few years of The Decade i did’t really have such certain faves.....i was def enjoying some characters, as i always do, but nothing like super standout. then in ‘11 or ‘12 or whatever i was like oh hey, ed from cowboybeboy.......and then just had like, the solo experience of me humoring myself w/ that. bit of an usual one b/c a lot of the characters i Really latch on to will tend to be kinda roughly similar in ways that maybe seem pretty at-first-glance levels of obvious, buuut idk she’s not That far off from my usual selections i guess lol. anyways then in 2014 i was like, time to go ham for lars. what a valuable time it was....what Fun we had.....truly tho! and then another interval later it’s 2016 and for similarly (relatable characters of roughly the same cut) i was like, well here i am having a great time re: kip, all while getting to generously use of my fave shade of blue and fangs central and all that fun stuff. and then another interval later the Eventual Unfolding of what started innn 2017 i guess occurs, and it’s late 2018, and i’m like, time to look into Jared Kleinman b/c just from reading the wikipedia summary that didn’t mention him all that much i could tell this was probably a character i’d go ham for for predictable reasons, and the vague interest in that has stuck with me for the past little-over-a-year......and then i was Completely right lol. deh? well that’s just Bonus Jared Lore, to me (though of course alana in her own right is a great and similarly underappreciated character. rights)....and then of course i’ve had a lot of fun with pretty much each and every Wrol Role lmao.......Very fond of jeremy, and also christine, and bmc just has really enjoyable and interesting characters all over the place. and of course, here i am, Extremely #about winston quantbillions as another certified fave rave, really. call it classic!!!
[[answered both 23 and 31 prior, actually.....words were typed....]]
35)a random memory you remember with strange clarity?
tough one because lol a fair amount of “you recorded this memory in a fair amount of detail” is due to increased levels of unpleasantness / stress / discomfort, and if it’s also “i remember this b/c it was Nice” then i wouldn’t call that Strange clarity lol, and Random Memory like “just pull one up from the ol memory bank” is like, god, i wish it were that simple........but give me a min.
oh yeah i had a High Time of it when pokemon go came out (only pokemonn game i have ever played lol) coz there was like, this stretch of Landmarks stops that started at this garden and went along this waterfront / connected park forrr maybe like a half mile stretch? ideal territory and people would actually like, come from out of town to partake in it lol. and i’d Download podcast eps on my phone from my work’s wifi and just like, in the evening listen to that or music and just like, walk and do this shit. i had like five or six gyaradoses at one point cuz i guess the riverside nature of it meant they wanted to throw all these magikarp at you (there Were carp, also! one of the parks had a koi pond.) and like, there were just all these people around doing it along with you, even that late at night and in the early AM hours, so it was fairly social even if u weren’t there with a group or talking with anyone (though there was Camaraderie like, oh hey just so you guys know, there is a ____ over by the boat.) and it was just an interesting Walk with several things to look at and routes to take. and one time in a weird Dead Of Night time like 1am there was this like, smallish cruise ship docked that actually Set Off. and like, a bunch of us randos were just standing there and watching this unfold. this isn’t a very good Clear Random Memory but if i tried to think of a good one, god only knows how long it’d take me lol
40)an important personal revelation?
oh jeez this has really been a decade with lots of the unfortunate combo of “stuff that is a bummer but also boring” lol.......a benefit of getting to spend more time than not Away From The Parents’ House was like, oh sweet, having this perspective for long enough finally leads me to the conclusion of why i hate this......B/c It Is Bad. oh yeah and then there was also conclusively figuring out early in the decade like oh right, i’m trans, that makes sense.......other layers of Gayassedness like oh, more specifically i’m nonbinary, oh yeah and like, i’m not straight, call that queer and/or bi and/or also Gay......bein grey ace like a champ, and aromantic like, oh yeah i’m not like, fucking up at being a person somehow and Letting People Down by not wanting to date them (i mean besides rando cishet men. they can be let down regardless).....and just like, this ongoing process of getting the space to b figuring out myself and what i like For myself in alll kinds of ways....even up till now with the “oh yeah ive been a theatre gay all my life lmaooo” bit that’s like, totally obvious but just like, i didn’t much have the reason to even look at the would-be obvious stuff from the right perspex till now. and it’s pretty fun to realize a Lifelong Area Of Big Interest like that, cuz those sorts of things can feel elusive. and then also unfortunately a lot of the decade has involved like, “oh my self-esteem is so fucked that it’s circling back around and i’m appreciating and valuing myself and that i deserve decent treatment and Not bad shit,” which was a crappy process obviously lol but it was nice when i did start to get there, and making further progress on that front. im not dead certain when i was like “hmm...am autistic” b/c that was definitely a really ongoing process of figuring that out lol, but when / as i did it’s definitely a series of “oh hahaha this is why i’m like This or why i do This or feel like This about This!!” and it’s really easy to learn a totally Brand New Thing all the time abt bein autistic where it’s like Oh #Me!! coz yknow. the info By and For autistic ppl is not always widely available and known of. love that for us

Alexocution: Will You Use My Spine?
Post about me having autism.
I remember my mom telling me that I have Asberger's some number of years ago. Asperger's, also known as Asperger syndrome, is a mild "autism spectrum disorder", which means that its subjects(?) are a bit atypical but can generally function in normal society. My mom had also told me I was autistic in general at various points in my life, and I would either disregard this or determine that if I was autistic I was not very high on the spectrum. Her reasoning for my autism, from what I remember, was that, as a child, I would meticulously arrange my toy cars in rows. There might've been more to what she believed about it but this is what stuck with me. I was also a weird and nerdy kid, spent a lot of time drawing or reading or playing video games and very little doing outside stuff or playing with other kids, and generally lacked social skills. Even so, I tended to think of myself as simply "weird". Later on I decided I probably am somewhere on the autism spectrum, but I didn't think any further than that.
Earlier this year, Jasmine showed me something. I don't remember if it was a video or article, but something in this piece of media set me down on a train of thought that led to me thinking more about how some things in my life make a lot of sense if you consider me to be autistic. Specifically, the thing I realized was that I have trouble listening to people, especially when there are other people talking. Whenever Jasmine and I were at a party or social thing with more than a few people (by the way, she's the one with almost all the friends in our relationship), I would pretty much never be able to understand the entirety of a conversation I'm ostensibly participating in. I say ostensibly because I very rarely can think of anything to say in a given conversation. If the music or background crowd is loud enough, I'm essentially just sitting there watching people move their mouths at each other. I chalked this up to me having bad hearing, as I would also have trouble sleeping because of tinnitus, but after I saw an ear doctor and got my ears cleaned, I realized that I still had trouble listening to people.
Not liking crowds is an oft-cited symptom of autism, and I certainly at least fit that. When I'm around a lot of people, I feel extremely anxious, and it's not just because I can't understand what people are saying, but I can't articulate the feeling without experiencing it (and even then I'm not sure if I could). This anxiety, coupled with me not having anything to say and not always understanding people, led me to generally avoid social situations whenever possible as I was growing up. I should note, however, that I don't think it was the sole reason.
I learned to be self-conscious about a lot of things as a kid: being quiet, being skinny, being smart, and being of Asian descent (I'm also partly Hispanic, but pretty much no one could tell). The worst physical bullying I endured in school was someone pushing me to the ground--I never got beat up or anything--but I got teased and made fun of a lot up until high school for the reasons I mentioned. For a long time I assumed that this, as well as my abusive father, was the reason I ended up the way I am. Now I think that that's only part of it.
In high school I attended a "highly gifted magnet" program, which required that the students do some intelligence test I don't remember. I had always found that I didn't really fit in in elementary and middle school, and it seemed that the same was true of high school. People were generally friendly to me, at least at first, and I liked that they were more mature than the middle schoolers I was used to, but I still didn't really make friends. I hung out with them when they formed their little groups, almost never saying anything and rarely really understanding what they were talking about. This, I determined, was because I had built up a vast reservoir of ignorance in my middle school years. You see, I went to four different middle schools because my family was moving around in that period, and none of them were magnet schools. So when I suddenly jumped into this program, I had a lot of catching up to do.
So I was, from my perspective of their perspective, the ignorant new guy (I also entered my first year there late) who just creepily stood at the edge of social groups and sometimes wrote funny things they said. And that's fair, I was pretty creepy I think, but it didn't quite explain a few things I noticed in years-later retrospect. Namely that people assumed I wouldn't understand things.
I remember several instances of someone avoiding telling me a joke or explaining what their shirt meant, because I "wouldn't get it". But I would later hear the joke from a distance, or realize what the shirt meant, and I would get it just fine. After that point earlier this year when I thought about me being autistic, I reflected back on these moments in high school and thought to myself, "Did they think I was autistic (or more autistic than I really am)?" Because years later, I think I probably am to some degree, and I wonder if that was already the conclusion those high schoolers came to back then.
Of course, I should point out that Jasmine, my wife, was someone I met in high school, and she never intimated to me that she thought I was autistic to any obvious degree. When I came to that conclusion earlier this year, what she said basically had the impact of, "Oh, maybe, but if you are it's just a little." Jasmine's also pretty weird, so maybe my weirdness only ever struck her as a little weird. But probably those high schoolers just didn't like me.
So essentially what I concluded is I'm probably a little autistic, because a lot of little things in my life make sense with that in mind--the most notable being: auditory processing issues, sensitivity to clothes tags/buttons/embroidery, weak social intelligence, atypical interests, and a frustrating tendency to just do things wrong.

Oh wow...tysm!! No character is listed so I’ll go for Luxigbraig, I’ll have to put it under a readmore for length. Btw we ignore canon bc it’s rather... boring.
4. Does your F/O have any battle scars?
Aside from the ones on his face...not really? I know the fandom HCs that he has a ton all over but nah. They base it solely on his face...
7. What is your F/O fashion taste?
Black, with boots and jackets because they just feel right for him. Tight pants or ripped jeans. I imagine that he wears a scarf as Braig to offer the security of a hood since the guard uniform doesn’t have one. Fashion sense of a goth or punk, personality of a jock.
8. How tall is your F/O?
He has no official height, but he’s 5′9′’ I know it. Someone used Sora’s KH3 models to create a chart for the characters and apparently he should be like 6′2′‘ but the models aren’t consistent between games so I don’t trust it one bit.
10. When is your F/O birthday?
For fandom it’s 2/2 (otherwise known as Xigbar Day) but Luxu was born in late October, making him a Scorpio (because...the Ancrene Wisse theming). (source: dude trust me)
11. Does your F/O know how to cook? If so are they good at it?
Barely, he knows how to cook enough to get by. I mean if you’ve lived for hundreds/thousands of years you gotta know how to cook for yourself.
12. What is your F/O favorite flavor?  (sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami (savory))
Savory, salty and bitter are preferred, neutral to sweet, dislikes sour. In Braig/Xigbar’s body anyway, in his original body he liked Sweet and Salty and disliked Bitter.
13. If your F/O could be a fan of any video game what do you think it would be?
Splatoon and Perfect Dark on n64, the latter being a bonding thing for us in particular. He also likes Fallout, Zelda and Borderlands, he tried Pokemon but decided it wasn’t for him after a few games, making me sad.
15. What color are your F/O eyes?
Xigbar’s is a nice yellow, Braig’s were brown before the Nortening, and I HC that Luxu’s eyes were also yellow.
16. Does your F/O have any tattoos? If not do they like or hate the concept of tattoos?
No, he’s had several bodies and thought tattoos would make him get too attached, why bother getting them when you might need to take a new vessel tomorrow? He would like to have some though, maybe as Xigbar he can since he won’t be changing any more.
18. Does your F/O have any piercings?
He got his ears and tongue pierced <3
19. Is your F/O a cake or pie person?
Pie pie pie, cake is fine every once in a while. But he loves a hot pie fresh out of the oven.
26. What harry potter house would your F/O be in? (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin)
He’s both Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Outwardly he’s very Slytherin but deep down he’ll always be a Hufflepuff.
27. If your F/O was in “avatar: the last air bender” what type of bender would they be? (air, water, earth, and fire)
Airbender, since it fits his Space powers most, but he wouldn’t follow the Air Nomads’ traditions. Peace and non-violence and all that? No thanks, he does what he wants.
28. Is your F/O LGBT+?
He’s Non Binary and Bi. He’s taken on both amab and afab bodies and experimented, he’s too old for silly Gender nonsense. He doesn’t really specifically ID as NB or Bi, Genderfluid and Pan work too but he legit does not care for labels. He doesn’t care for other people’s genders and doesn’t know nor care what his own is. Though, he switches pronouns per vessel since he has to pretend to be other people. He has a preference for he/his and they/them pronouns and amab vessels for his own.
33. Do you have any silly nicknames or pet names for your F/O?
I’m not really one for pet/nicknames bc I embarrass easily, but he calls me Babe among others and I’m autistic and pick up on habits of others so...I’ll call him Babe every now and then and get flustered when he points it out. I used to call him Xiggy early on but it was such an obvious and easy nickname that I dropped it. I suppose calling him Luxu counts? Since he likes me calling him by his old assigned name.
36. Have you ever had a dream with your F/O in it?
TONS!!!! And we’re dating in the dream world too so I know it’s legit! Several dreams I’ve had where we’re definitely together as a couple and it makes me so happy to have them! I can’t really talk about the last one we had for Reasons, but the one before that, he was bragging about how he was around when the BotW shrines were built and proved it to me by showing me some while we were traveling the world. “Shouldn’t you be leaving them hidden for the Hero to find?” “The Hero? As if, I don’t care about that guy. I’m showing it to you because I want to. :)”
My first dream actually happened right after I started crushing but I can’t talk about it for.....Reasons, hehe.
38. What’s a song that reminds you of your F/O when you hear?
Sympathy For The Devil by The Rolling Stones, The Song I Heard Somewhere/Clockwork Lullaby 8 by Mothy/Akuno-P, and You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid by The Offspring.
39. What is your relationship like with your F/O?
Lots of teasing, mostly from him, sometimes from me. Lots of fun times, we enjoy cuddling and watching things and sharing memes. We’re both mentally ill so we try to support each other, like him constantly encouraging me bc of my low self-esteem and, with him, he struggles with being open about things because he’s had to hide himself for far too long, so I try to help him ease up, but I never tried to force myself into his business and he appreciates that. We both struggle with identity issues so that’s a common point for us too.
40. How long have you been with your F/O? (or at least been interested in them?)
I developed a crush in I believe October of 2015, started dating in Febuary of 2016 and we’ve been married since April of this otherwise hell year.
41. Where is your F/O from? (as in born)
Daybreak Town, which doesn’t exist anymore :( it was remade into Scala Ad Caelum but that’s gone too. The last place he’s “from” was Radiant Garden/Hollow Bastion.
44. What is your F/O’s most valuable possession?
The black box the MoM entrusted to him that he may or may not have lost, but it’s all good cause he found it and it’s safe.
46. does your F/O prefer to work alone or with a team?
He tells himself and others that he prefers to work alone. He’s used to it. But if he really likes someone’s company then he’ll yearn for the companionship even if it’s brief.
49. What animal reminds you of your F/O?
Goats and Scorpions (obvs) but I also associate him with foxes and bats. The fandom heavily associates him with rats and I really don’t vibe with that.
50. What color reminds you of your F/O?
Black (outfit + hair + keyblade), Silver (hair), Yellow (eye), and Purple (arrowguns, bow).
43. What does your F/O’s Saturdays usually look like?
Doing missions. The Organization gives us a day off like once a year. (No, really.) When he’s finally out of there, he likes to do stuff with me, be it relax at home or travel. Just as long as it isn’t Work.

Title: Anything To Make you Stay, Chapter 8 Rating: T Word Count: Total: 15,761, chapter: 1,961 Characters: Joshua, Neku, Shiki, Eri, Beat, Rhyme, Hanekoma, Kariya, Uzuki. Pairings: Josh/Neku. Warnings: Suicide, Major Character Death, Depression, semi-detailed depiction of dead bodies, mentions of ableism, one minor allusion to transphobia Summary: Joshua and Neku have been best friends since they were 11, but their friendship starts to fall apart after Joshua goes missing for a week, soon after his 14th birthday. Lies corrode the bond, and Neku’s vivid nightmares of finding someone’s dead body does not help. A year and a half later, they hit the boiling point. Always look before crossing the road, kiddos. Author’s Note: Autistic Josh and Neku! Afab demiboy Josh! Agender Rhyme! Usage of sign language! This was a fun fic to write please enjoy it.
Chapter 8:
They wake up at the Concert Stage, because of course they do. It’s pitch black, and Josh groans. He shouldn’t use his power to light the place up, that would be irresponsible. So when he and Neku get the mission mail, Josh takes the longer time limit as an excuse to drag Neku around and go shopping.
First stop, Lapin Angelique. He insists on paying for everything, it’s only polite, of course. And it lets him dress Neku up in stat-boosting gothic lolita clothes like he’s always wanted to.
“Josh, is this really necessary?” Neku asks, as he tries on the vampire dress.
“Yes, it absolutely is. This is a Game, and the stuff you equip will effect your stats. We’ll be taking what we can get right now.” He grins, paying for the Bunny Parka and throwing it on. “We should also probably be level grinding, fighting more Noise and whatnot, getting the drops.”
“Whoever thought that making this work like a video game was a good idea is out of their mind,” Neku says, and Josh snorts. Neku’s got a point, it’s not something anyone would reasonably expect from the Reaper’s Game.
“That’d be the Composer you’re talking about. Head honcho here in the UG. The Composer is tied intimately to the city, unable to be separated from it. The Composer is the god of the UG in which they are connected to. They’re the one that brings the Players who win back to life.” Josh buys two capes, putting one on and tossing the other to Neku, who frowns, but puts it on.
Josh grabs the lace-up dress, rolling his eyes at Neku’s scrunched up face as he slips into a changing room to put it on.
“We both look ridiculous and this is awful,” Neku says, when he comes back out.
“You’re just annoyed because I can rock it better than you.” Josh smirks, before turning back to Princess K and chatting with her a bit, purchasing at least one of every pin in stock, tossing them to Neku as they leave. “Here, you should have a use for all those. I don’t use pins. I channel the pysch through my phone, and drop shit on the Noise.”
Neku takes the pins tossed at him, and follows Josh out the store. “How in the world did you learn to do that?”
“Just felt natural, I guess. I input commands by tapping some buttons, and the stuff I summon falls out of the sky and hits them. It’s very satisfying to see happen.”
As Josh steps out the door, a girl runs into him, and she steps back and yelps. “Oh gosh! I’m so sorry! I didn’t see you there!” It only takes a glance at her to know who she is, Shiki Misaki, and the other girl behind her must be Eri. Joshua had hoped those two would Partner up, it’d let them settle some issues.
He shrugs. “No worries. I’m Josh, that’s Neku, my Partner. I’m assuming you two are Partners as well?” he asks, and hides his laugh as both of them look at him in surprise, jaw dropped and eyebrows raised. It’s bizarre, seeing two people with the same body do that.
“Are you two like, twins, or something?” Neku asks.
Shiki shakes her head. “No, no, we’re not. Just friends. I had some… Jealousy problems, my Fee was my appearance. I’m Shiki, by the way. Eri’s fee was her voice,” she says, and motions to the pad of paper and the pen in her friend’s hand. “We picked that up so she could have some way to say stuff.”
“Useful, if you don’t know sign language, I guess. Neku and I both know sign, which was handy yesterday when I went nonverbal.” Neku rolls his eyes at the repeat of the pun, and Josh just gives him a grin. He slides out of the way of the door, standing to the side with Neku while they speak to the girls.
“Ooh, maybe you could teach us sometime!” Shiki says, and Eri nods.
“I’m not opposed to that. Neku?” he asks, looking over at him.
“Sure, whatever. How about after the mission?” he says, and Josh rolls his eyes.
“Fine with me. Do you ladies know anything about it yet?” Josh asks.
Shiki shakes her head. “Not much. There’s some guys hanging around front of the concert stage, they’re from a band. Their tech is missing, said he went off to get fuses and should’ve been back by now.”
“Makes sense, it’s dark as hell in there,” Neku says. “If the fuses blew, then no wonder we can’t see anything. Maybe if we get the lights working again, we’ll find whatever we need to fight.”
“Let’s split up, we can share any discoveries we make with each other, and do more apart than we could together. There’s another pair of people running around, Beat and Rhyme, if you see them, be sure to fill them in,” Josh says, and with a few quick goodbyes they part ways.
It takes some running around, and they stop by Sunshine and Dragon Couture for some food and threads. It’s here that they also run into Beat and Rhyme again.
They swap notes. Rhyme tells them about memes and Imprinting, Neku tells them about the tech and getting the lights back on.
They’re about to part ways when Josh speaks up. “Hey, Beat, can I have a chat with you?” he asks.
Beat frowns, but nods. “Sure, whatchu want?”
Josh looks over at Neku and Rhyme. “You two wanna go try Imprinting some people? I promise I’m not trying to pull anything, there’s just something I want to talk about, and I’m sure once Beat knows the topic, he’ll agree that the conversation should be private.”
It takes a moment, but both Neku and Rhyme agree to give them a bit of privacy. Once they’ve gone, Beat turns to him. “What’s this about, yo?”
“Rhyme’s your sibling, aren’t they?” he asks, blunt. He’s never understood why people would dance around a subject.
A look of shock crosses Beat’s face, eyes wide. “How’d ya know?”
“Resemblance, matching skull motif,” Josh flashes a grin, but drops it as he moves on. It’s not the time for humor. “The way you reacted when Rhyme said Partner, like you were hoping for a different word to come out of their mouth. Entry Fees can be nasty things. Seeing the most important person in your world forget about you? That’s a special type of pain. A jab to the heart anytime they can’t connect the dots between the missing memories and you.”
Beat flinches. “Shuddup. You got no clue what it’s like yo.”
“I’ve known Neku since we were both 11, he remembers nothing from before the Game,” Joshua deadpans. “Your experiences are not unique, there are others going through the same stuff as you. Take comfort in that, and know that you are not alone in what you feel.”
Before Beat can reply, Josh walks off to go see how Neku and Rhyme are doing. Which is bothering a business man, apparently. They’ve both taken to Imprinting what they have on him. Josh cracks a smile, grabs Neku, and decides that it’s time to visit Dogenzaka.
They find the tech at Ramen Don, and send him on his way to get the fuse. Then it’s just a matter of waiting until the boss appears.
When the bat does, Neku and Josh hop into battle. He has some fun throwing objects, while Neku pummels the big boss with fire and lightning.
They have a bit of time to spare, but the timer hasn’t disappeared yet. It doesn’t, not until Beat and Rhyme appear from their battle with the small, golden bat.
Things go fuzzy after that.
They all wake up at 104, and Josh has a chance to appreciate the fact that he budgeted a lazy day. Get to Towa Records, no time limit.
It’s a bit of a blur. Shiki and Eri rope them all into a ton of shopping, and Josh can’t deny he had a part in that. He’s not being stingy, tossing out yen pins to everyone. It’s not a blur like day 2 was, it’s exciting, he can feel the pulse of the city beneath him as they all take turns between battles. The rhythm vibrates through him, the Music flowing around them all like the wind, and really, how could he ever want to stay on the higher vibes, when the rush, the thrill of the Game had adrenaline coursing through his system.
Throughout the day, Neku and Josh show off some sign language, teaching the others some basics. They aren’t bothering with grammar for now, just showing the signs for what they encounter.
The flow comes to a halting, cacophonous, stop as they arrive at Towa Records.
Instruments tumble over, unsure of whether to continue, as Rhyme pushes Beat out of the way of the shark trap.
Time slows.
Time stops.
Rhyme is halfway static as the world goes grayscale and freezes. Joshua takes measured steps to her side. A simple zap of power to the Swing Shark vaporizes it, the static flowing past them, back into ambient Shibuya, as he presses a hand to Rhyme’s forehead, pulling their Music back into one place, rebinding the body and Soul. He lets Rhyme shift into timeless space with him, and they look around first, panic evident, and then at him.
“What did you just do?”
Josh shrugs. “Erased the Noise, froze time to do it, reassembled you. You were almost shark bait.” He pauses, lets out a short laugh. “This is why Composers shouldn’t Play in their own Game, huh? Getting attached isn’t good when you need to be an impartial judge.”
Rhyme’s eyes widen, mouth dropping. “You? Composer? What?”
He smiles. “For about a year and a half now. I’ve always seen the UG. I’ve been friends with Neku since we were 11, became Composer a few days after my 14th birthday. He died after we got in an argument, he marched off and into the road. I… owe it to him, to keep him safe. Didn’t expect to be doing that for others, but I don’t think I’m gonna regret this.”
“Does he know?” they ask, and Josh shakes his head.
“No. I’m planning on telling him everything after we win the Game, but his Fee was his memories of me. Gotta get him those back, first. So I’d appreciate it if you could keep this secret for me.”
They mime the motion for zipping their lips, and nod. “I won’t tell anyone. You have my word.”
Josh smiles, falling back into place with the others. Their minds will accommodate, Rhyme was a near miss, the shark disappeared when it failed, things happened too fast for everyone’s brain to process. He snaps his fingers, and time resumes.
“RHYME!” Beat shouts, as he lands on the ground. He’s on his feet in seconds, ready to do whatever it takes to protect Rhyme, no doubt, but instead he finds them brushing off their knees, otherwise uninjured.
Shiki and Eri run forward, Eri signing [Are you okay?] as Shiki asks it, hands and voice messy with worry.
Neku hangs back, but an aborted yell hangs heavy on his lips, eyes wide. Josh takes a singular step forward, playing the part of surprised and worried friend.
There’s a lot of hugging and worrying over Rhyme, but Joshua looks beyond, at the Reaper who placed the trap. Uzuki looks annoyed, yes, with an eyebrow twitching and frown set on her face, but she’s eyeing him. She suspects his intervention, no doubt.
Kariya must have informed her of their previous Partnership.

here's a fan theory a certain portion of television history took place almost entirely inside the brain of a young autistic boy okay so first things first a couple days ago we released a version of this video that was wrong my understanding of the Tommy westphall universe hypothesis was just completely incorrect if you would like to watch that video for academic purposes you can click here or you can find a link in the description we are going to turn off comments on that video if you did write a comment we saved it we put it in a paste bin there is also a link to that paste bin in the doobly-doo okay now on to a version of this video that is hopefully correct for the next several weeks here on idea channel we're gonna be doing something a little bit different every other week instead of taking a piece of popular culture and smashing it up against some academic or critical theory to see what happens we're gonna talk about fan theories speculations about the ways of some of our favorite pieces of media may work even if it doesn't really appear that way on the surface we're gonna do five of them we're gonna talk about Harry Potter Pokemon Star Wars probably dip at least a little bit into Final Fantasy Legend of Zelda and a few others the first fan theory we're gonna talk about right now is really I think something special it's a little old so it's gonna take some explaining but I think it's important because it's paradigmatic of fan theories it hits all of the fan theory high notes it's called the Tommy Westfall universe or the Tommy westphall universe hypothesis and it states that over 400 television shows and Counting all take place in the same universe the theory is defended thusly in 1988 the American television show st.
elsewhere ended its broadcast run a sort of dark comedic medical dramedy set in a hospital the end of its final episode can be read to suggest that the entire series took place inside the brain of a minor character a young autistic boy named Tommy Westfall in opposed to titled six degrees of st.
elsewhere comic writer Dwayne McDuffie explains that this could mean most if not nearly all of television had taken was taking and would continue to take place in Tommy's brain he writes if saying elsewhere played by the rules of comics either they wouldn't have been allowed to do it or they would have precipitated a crisis in TV land far bloodier than DC Comics crisis on Infinite Earths why because crossover wise st.
elsewhere is the Kevin Bacon of TV shows end quote how so well if Tommy imagined nearly everything about st.
elsewhere including the people and those people show up on other programs doesn't it stand to reason that those programs are also imagined by Tommy Westfall this theory says yep now what you might say is okay sure but how many people meaning characters not actors are going to show up in other TV shows how many crossovers could there possibly be I hope you are watching this in your car but parked safe and completely stationary just so that you can literally buckle in one central and very important crossover takes place when alfre woodard who plays st.
elsewheres dr.
Roxanne Turner reprised that role in a 1998 episode of homicide life on the street titled mercy this means that if the fictional dr.
Turner is a complete Westphal fabrication and she shows up on homicide then homicide must also by extension be a Westfall fabrication but okay hold on because homicide and much of television draws from its surroundings from the past and present of its medium as well as others Tommy Westfall becomes not unlike the breadcrumb trail or contrast medium making visible the extreme intertextuality of popular primetime TV once homicide is part of the Tommy Westfall universe every character crossing from it to other shows draws those shows into the westfall universe even if the characters crossing over aren't in the st.
elsewhere to begin with characters crossing from those shows to a third circle of shows then draw more characters into the universe and the process continues until the complex of TV we normally think of as being comprised of many discrete fictional universes separated by show title is laid out as one continuous fictional landscape unbelievable and as you might imagine that landscape is big just to take you down one pathway source here Eliot Carlin from Newhart visits the psych ward in st.
elsewhere layer old Darrell and Darrell also from Newhart squat in coach Hayden's cabin coach and drew Carey as well as Allen and grace under fire all end up together in Las Vegas during a crossover block Mimi from The Drew Carey Show appears in the key uglies daryl hugely and Nicky Parker from the Parkers crossover onto each other shows the Parkers as I spent off of Moishe who's Niecy and Hakeem go to the prom in clueless whose main character cher was visited by Sabrina the Teenage Witch from Newhart to Sabrina all in Tommy's mind but it doesn't stop at just characters oh no no props work too for example John munch from homicide which remember is part of the Westfall universe because of dr.
Turner questions the lone gunman from the x-files the x-files cancer man smokes Morley cigarettes Morley cigarettes have been in 24 American Horror Story the Americans Breaking Bad Fraser orange is the new black shameless that 70 show up all night Buffy the Vampire Slayer and as you may have guessed many many other shows the ending of st.
elsewhere with its snow globe and slow zoom and exposition suggesting Tommy has imagined six whole seasons of television and perhaps countless others provides the final piece for a puzzle many television fans would like to solve generally how can we imagine all or much of the media we love being somehow related somehow intertwined capable of interacting is there a pathway between Mulder and despite what if someone on the John Larroquette show influenced history in such a way that it made certain portions of Star Trek possible in the way that it's fun to see public figures you like interacting with one another on social media it's fun to consider how your favorite fictional universes may intersect or interact heck it's a whole genre of fan fiction it's even an incredibly popular video game with the point I don't think is that the Tommy westphall universe hypothesis or any other fan theory for that matter is correct is 100% and totally verifiable and we figured out a secret thing that's actually true about television and oppa bow before it's deductive completeness the point is that fan theories provide new ways to think with and act our favorite pieces of media and culture fan theories try to determine what noon or exciting situation can be reasonably wrung out of a story based on what already they're a good fan theory rearranges our reinterprets but doesn't recreate and append they allow us new ways to consider well-known often discussed popular and/or beloved media and they almost always meet whatever that media is on its own terms this approach has its pros and it's cons but most importantly it's fun for me fan theories are kind of like critical thinking popcorn this is why I wanted to start with Tommy Westfall are there people out there who believe unequivocally that the Tommy westphall universe hypothesis proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that over 400 television shows really and truly do exist in exactly the same universe that instead of it being a symptom of intertextuality resulting from purposeful cleverness sure but also a practical convenience actual accident and literal coincidence it proves a fundamental characteristic of Caroline in the city and the wire is that they could in fact be happening a mere train ride from one another inside a young boy's brain maybe and if so that's awesome but even Dwayne McDuffie himself followed his Proclamation that quote the last five minutes of st.
elsewhere is the only television show ever everything else is a daydream with an admission that quote obsessive cross series continuity is silly he was making a point about comic books and maybe fixating on that kind of thing is silly but also novel and as movie bomb points out both fun and something you can go deep on fan theories maybe Tommy Westfall chief amongst them are a way to reconsider stories and universes that you love maybe they've sharpen your thinking bits maybe to gain a little bit more insight into parts of the story not captured on the page or by the camera or maybe because you really honestly do believe that Calvin and Hobbes is a prequel to Fight Club if you don't know about that one you gotta go google it it's very convincing what do you guys think what role do fan theories play in popular culture and do you think the Tommy westphall universe hypothesis holds up at all let us know in the comments and I will respond to some of them in next week's comment response video in this week's comment response video we talk about your thoughts regarding trigger warnings in classrooms if you want to watch that you can click right here or find a link in the doobly-doo we also have one bit of very exciting news idea channel finally has hold on one second t-shirts it was designed by my andrea AKA art sparrow who is a very talented illustrator really really excited that we got to work with her so i'll put some links to her work in the description as well as well as a link to the dftba.
com store where you can buy this idea channel shirt it is the only thing that we have available right now we're working on a couple other t-shirt designs as well as some other fun stuff trying to figure out how to get like stickers and and various and sundry other things but yeah the merch train is finally leaving the station which is very exciting choo choo this week's episode was brought to you by the very hard work of these context Crossing fictional characters we have a facebook an IRC and a subreddit come hang out and the tweet of the week comes from Nick Stoller who points us towards an article about conveying and experiencing existential dread via super mario maker you.

elsewhere with its snow globe and slow zoom and exposition suggesting Tommy has imagined six whole seasons of television and perhaps countless others provides the final piece for a puzzle many television fans would like to solve generally how can we imagine all or much of the media we love being somehow related somehow intertwined capable of interacting is there a pathway between Mulder and despite what if someone on the John Larroquette show influenced history in such a way that it made certain portions of Star Trek possible in the way that it’s fun to see public figures you like interacting with one another on social media it’s fun to consider how your favorite fictional universes may intersect or interact heck it’s a whole genre of fan fiction it’s even an incredibly popular video game with the point I don’t think is that the Tommy westphall universe hypothesis or any other fan theory for that matter is correct is 100% and totally verifiable and we figured out a secret thing that’s actually true about television and oppa bow before it’s deductive completeness the point is that fan theories provide new ways to think with and act our favorite pieces of media and culture fan theories try to determine what noon or exciting situation can be reasonably wrung out of a story based on what already they’re a good fan theory rearranges our reinterprets but doesn’t recreate and append they allow us new ways to consider well-known often discussed popular and/or beloved media and they almost always meet whatever that media is on its own terms this approach has its pros and it’s cons but most importantly it’s fun for me fan theories are kind of like critical thinking popcorn this is why I wanted to start with Tommy Westfall are there people out there who believe unequivocally that the Tommy westphall universe hypothesis proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that over 400 television shows really and truly do exist in exactly the same universe that instead of it being a symptom of intertextuality resulting from purposeful cleverness sure but also a practical convenience actual accident and literal coincidence it proves a fundamental characteristic of Caroline in the city and the wire is that they could in fact be happening a mere train ride from one another inside a young boy’s brain maybe and if so that’s awesome but even Dwayne McDuffie himself followed his Proclamation that quote the last five minutes of st.
elsewhere is the only television show ever everything else is a daydream with an admission that quote obsessive cross series continuity is silly he was making a point about comic books and maybe fixating on that kind of thing is silly but also novel and as movie bomb points out both fun and something you can go deep on fan theories maybe Tommy Westfall chief amongst them are a way to reconsider stories and universes that you love maybe they’ve sharpen your thinking bits maybe to gain a little bit more insight into parts of the story not captured on the page or by the camera or maybe because you really honestly do believe that Calvin and Hobbes is a prequel to Fight Club if you don’t know about that one you gotta go google it it’s very convincing what do you guys think what role do fan theories play in popular culture and do you think the Tommy westphall universe hypothesis holds up at all let us know in the comments and I will respond to some of them in next week’s comment response video in this week’s comment response video we talk about your thoughts regarding trigger warnings in classrooms if you want to watch that you can click right here or find a link in the doobly-doo we also have one bit of very exciting news idea channel finally has hold on one second t-shirts it was designed by my andrea AKA art sparrow who is a very talented illustrator really really excited that we got to work with her so i’ll put some links to her work in the description as well as well as a link to the dftba.
com store where you can buy this idea channel shirt it is the only thing that we have available right now we’re working on a couple other t-shirt designs as well as some other fun stuff trying to figure out how to get like stickers and and various and sundry other things but yeah the merch train is finally leaving the station which is very exciting choo choo this week’s episode was brought to you by the very hard work of these context Crossing fictional characters we have a facebook an IRC and a subreddit come hang out and the tweet of the week comes from Nick Stoller who points us towards an article about conveying and experiencing existential dread via super mario maker you.
