something rather unexplored in lord of the rings is aragorn's human side of the family, those left behind in esteldín. gilraen's younger sister elanna marries halbarad, and together they have three children: amdír, fíriel, and halros. all three would become rangers of the north like their father, serving to protect the free peoples. however, elanna would perish of a dark illness, amdír slain by the nazgûl, and halbarad fallen at aragorn's side in the battle of the pelennor fields.

AN: A small gift for @elanna-elrondiel!

We decided to refer to f!Glorfy as Laurefindelë (which is the "normal" Quenya name) because we didn't want to change too much and felt like it was "ambiguous" as is. And to those wondering about the Quenya: It was in fact spoken in Gondolin.

The house of the Golden Flower was filled with merriment and laughter. 

Lady Laurefindelë, still clad in her golden armour, was dancing and twirling like a deer in spring, golden hair fluttering behind her. In her arms, held in the manner of a groom carrying their bride, was Lady Mentelossë, cheeks flushed and eyes wet from exuberant joy. 

"Careful!" she exclaimed when Laurefindelë spun around again, missing a vase by mere inches. "You will ruin the entire salon!" 

"I would lay the entire city to waste for you, my lady; nay, Angband itself!" Laurefindelë laughed and continued her merry dancing.

OC Advent 1

I haven’t been able to come up with an advent story for this year, so finally I decided to go the easy route and just post a bunch of OCs.  I’m a bit obsessed with Rivendell and have a group of people who populate my headcanon version of Rivendell.  Several of them show up in more than one of my stories, so they really belong to Rivendell itself, not a certain story.  If I need a character for a certain story, I know where to look.

The first set are going to be characters who show up in “In the Valley of Healing” (the second book in my “Silent Rider” series), which is the only story I’m actively working/posting on at the moment.  There are also some that have only shown up so far in last year’s advent calendar, which is a high school AU of Silent Rider.  The second set are some characters who aren’t in Silent Rider (yet).  And finally, because 25 characters is a big ask, I’ll do some headcanons for canonical residents of Rivendell.

Disclaimer: I’m not guaranteeing quality on this advent calendar.  I have a bunch of projects going on at once.  Some of the characters, like Laerin and Elanna, I have loads of information on and several images of.  Some might get a few sentences and no image.

Laerin

Name(s): Father-name is Calathorn, meaning “steadfast light”.  Mother-name is Idhrenel, meaning “thoughtful woman”.  Epessë (after-name or nickname) is Laerin, meaning “summer-minded”. Appearance: 5’11’’, slender, tan skin, brown hair, brown eyes Age: about 3,000 Heritage: Iathrim (elves of Doriath)

Bio: Laerin grew up in a village in the valley of Rivendell and is about the same age as Arwen.  Since birth, she was a serious and introverted child who preferred to watch other people play instead of joining in.  She has suffered from generalized anxiety disorder on and off throughout her life and thinks social conventions and politeness are a waste of time (though she can be very kind and thoughtful if she sees a reason to be).  She started learning dance very young, and studied a very formalized and challenging form of dance in which the dancer’s movements are used as a sort of code to tell a story.

Once she was an adult, she moved to the main house of Rivendell (The Last Homely House) to become an apprentice healer.  She became friends with Arwen during that time. She took some time away from this to help raise her younger sister, Magoleth.  She was very intelligent and good at medicine, and she chose to become a medic for guards/scouting parties.  She fought during the second Siege of Rivendell in the war against Angmar, where she was almost fatally wounded.  Later, she spent almost a hundred years serving the king of Arnor, where she earned a lot of acclaim and received her epessë.

It took her several hundred years to recover from the severe PTSD and panic attacks the war left her with.  During that time, she could not do her usual work, so she learned to bake and made lembas with Arwen.  She could not find it in her to dance anymore, and became sharper and less patient about social graces.  Fortunately, she’s doing a lot better now and has gone back to medicine, but not dance.  She was recently part of the brief military campaign to drive Sauron out of Dol Guldur.

Laerin fell in love with an eventually became engaged to a woman from one of the Wandering Companies.  However, her true love eventually broke off the engagement, which is almost unheard of for elves, and was devastating to her.  About twenty years ago, her parents left Rivendell to go to Valinor, and she is struggling with the feeling of being responsible for her younger sister and brother-in-law.

children of fingon and maedhros ✷ mentelossë findekániel ✷ for @ela-draws

Born not long after the Noldor arrived in Beleriand, Mentelossë was the child of Fingon and his wife, whom he married only for political purposes. Her father was truly in love with his half-cousin Maedhros, though Mentelossë did not realize this for a long time. She spent much of her younger years with them, and looked up to Maedhros as a father figure. Mentelossë went to Gondolin with her uncle Turgon, where she fell in love with Glorfindel, Lord of the Golden Flower. Alas, Glorfindel died before they could be wed, and after the Third Kinslaying at the Havens of Sirion, Mentelossë joined the Fëanorian host to protect Elrond and Elros and reunite with Maedhros. She remained with Elrond throughout the Second and Third Ages, and was overjoyed to see Glorfindel again when he returned to Middle-earth. Mentelossë and Glorfindel were married in Imladris, and sailed together to Valinor in the Fourth Age, where she reunited with her fathers and welcomed a child of her own into the world.

Brief overview: Lótelissë is the (former) wife of Fingon and mother of Gil-Galad and Mentelossë (also elanna's OC). Litsaiwa is a Telerin Elf who lives in Valinor.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful lady who dreamed of love and happiness. For a while her dream came true when she married a prince, yet wars ravaged the land and there was little joy in their union, causing her spirit to pass into the halls of Mandos. 

Once upon a time, when all wounds were healed, Lótelissë returned to life and began searching again, until her wanderings took her to the shores of Valinor where she found a lovely lady singing and collecting seashells. 

At last her heart was glad, knowing that her long journey was over.
