The Tempest and The Festival (session 6)
Welcome back to the Merano campaign!  All character names are in bold, spells are in italics.  Party members are tagged “merano: [character name]”.  Locations visited (cities, specific establishments) are tagged “location: [NAME]”.  Important npcs are tagged "npc: name." All posts for this campaign are tagged “campaign: merano”.
INTRODUCTION:
After leaving Dire, the party is headed Northeast up the Starfire River to the city of Dire. They are plagued with nightmares and wake rattled. Calypso wakes up first and notices that the ship from the night before has gotten closer. Delphie can see that the token they've been carrying with them is glowing with magic. The party scrambles to hide it, but it isn't before long that the large merchant ship, Ceretal's Fang is abreast of The Dapper and being boarded, claiming to investigate stolen goods. Delphie uses Major Image to disguise the party. Captain Niko Kellne and her associate, the Storm Warden board and keep the crew in line. Kellne takes a few of her own crew to come and help her inspect the hold, the Storm Warden staying on the deck to keep an eye on everyone. The party tries and fails to act natural. Fail enough that, the Storm Warden notices, and combat begins.
IT'S TIME FOR COMBAT ON THE DECK OF THE DAPPER
COMBAT BEGINS, with the party still disguised in their illusions
Marasmius goes for it with a Command spell, Hugo at the ready with a Silence in case that doesn’t work.
Calypso enters their rage and has a good first round.  The start of the fight is mostly people trying to get into position for what’s to come.
The Storm Warden unleashes a massive radiant lightning attack against Hugo, dealing massive damage.  Delphie narrowly avoids being downed with this same attack when he turns his attention towards her.
Delphie uses Control Water to punch a hole in the hull of his ship, this forces him to either stay and let his ship sink or flee and help his crew in the next three rounds.
Delphie attempts to use the Dreamspire Powder that Hypnos gave her previously twice, but neither attempt is successful.
Hugo gets in a hit against the Storm Warden with a Burning Hands.
Calypso and Marasmius team-up, Marasmius casting Spirit Guardians and Calypso grappling him to keep him in the spell and taking damage from it, all of this with Hugo’s Silence up.
The fight taking a turn for the worse, and his ship sinking, the Storm Warden calls for Captain Kellne and her men to come back and flee back to their ship.
The party gets in attacks of opportunity against Captain Kellne as she flees The Dapper.
The crew springs back into motion, getting The Dapper as far away from Ceretal’s Fang as possible, with the party headed back below decks.
The Virasti token is lying abandoned on the floor where Captain Kellne must have dropped it in her haste to escape.
Dante slams the doors to the hold shut behind them and gives an apologetic explanation that it’s captain’s orders and they’ll let them out at Feolinn.
Delphie uses the Sending bracelet to contact Hypnos, asking for advice on what to do next, asking, “Virasti medallion led them to us, we chased them off, but now are being forced to hide in the hull, Feolinn is near, what now?”  Hypnos responds, “Ditch it, noted planar activity last night in your direction, I’ll ask Crescenzo.”
Delphie tosses it out of a porthole with Mage Hand.
The party decides to settle down, Hugo rearranges the boxes to say ‘sorry.’  Calypso starts whittling.
Delphie is a little upset that the dreamspire powder didn’t work, “The dreamspire powder didn’t work, I feel like it kinda wasted it.”  Marasmius reassures her, suggesting that, “Well maybe he’s so powerful he doesn’t need to breathe.”
Hugo, still mad about getting smited by the guy, starts going off about how he has a dumb face and of course it wouldn’t work on his stupid nose, which Hugo isn’t willing to budge on
Marasmius calmly insists that every nose is beautiful, which, well, Hugo’s still pissed, he isn’t willing to budge on this.  But Marasmius matter-of-factly insists that no, the Storm Warden is hot, he’s always scoping out the hotties.
Delphie makes some chamomile tea and Hugo makes a blanket nest, both of them inviting the others to settle down for the night.
The Dapper hits Feolinn first thing in the morning, with Calypso being the first one up, and makes sure to wake everyone else up.
Captain Monpress kicks them out the moment that they’re docked, warning them that he never wants to see their faces again, he also doesn’t want the scrutiny of having gotten into a fight with the guild, if they don’t say anything, he won’t say anything.  Dante tries to apologize and wish them well but he can’t really get a word in edgewise.
Now properly in the city of Feolinn, the party has departed in the docks at the Stars district, there isn’t much here.  This is where the city grows their waterlogged crops, there aren’t really any people here.
Trying to get their bearings, Delphie did some research before leaving to get prepared.  The city is divided up by four rivers, with a lake at the center.  The Stars where they currently are.  To the east is the Doors district, which is majority residential space.  To the west, is the Clouds, where adventurers coming from over the Cloudjumper Range like to frequent.  To the north is Upstream, a high-powered uptown district where most of the guilds have headquarters.  Keystone Island is at the center of the lake, where the seven noble families of the city leave.  The city is prone to flooding so most of the city, especially near the mouths of the rivers so those areas are all built over the water, the whole place is a mess of interconnected bridges and platforms.
They also notice, that the city seems to be preparing for the Radiant Festival, a 3-day aurora borealis, said to be what happens when the goddesses reach out across the universe and hold hands.  Everything becomes shimmery and rainbow-themed for the duration.
To ‘blend in’ the party decides to head east to the Doors to try and find a shop to get bits and bobs for festival outfits.  They find a few things but it’s not quite what they’re looking for and Marasmius is interested in upgrading his warhammer so they decide to try their luck elsewhere in the Clouds.
As the party is on its way, they notice the buzz of rumors, that the Virastis are going to announce something at the start of the festival.
The Clouds are a lot more lively and artsy, catering to traveling adventures of all stripes, from all over, and they find a weaponsmith with relative ease.
They don’t have the money for anything new, but the shop is willing to do trade-ins, Marasmius trades in his old warhammer to get a Hammer of Little Miracles with some help from Delphie.
Hugo buys an Alchemist’s Bane dagger and ends up giving it to Delphie.
Calypso trades in their axe so it can get a +1 enchantment.
And with that, the Radiant Festival is set to start in two days.

unique npc experiences in my worldstate
Inspired by @ghostwise's recent post! :)
Similar to Rinny, I've got Alistair's experience in my canon!
Alistair
He loses his temper at the landsmeet and storms out, as in canon, but does not end up abandoning the Blight entirely: Leliana (my warden's gf) tracks him down before he takes ship and convinces him to stay and fight the Blight.
He leaves Ferelden after the Blight ends, possibly travels to Weisshaupt with Kylare (my warden) (worst roadtrip in history, if it happens), and ultimately ends up gaining seniority in the Marcher Wardens. He does still end up with drinking problem, and not exactly *happy*, becoming more the grim, lonely holder of the Wardens' vigil against the dark than any of the canon endings for him.
My main worldstate is also an "all origins survive" one, but those are all technically PCs so...
Wynne's story!
I don't know as many details as for Alistair, yet, but she diverges from both my epilogue canon and the Bioware Canon(TM). She becomes Queen Anora's Court Enchanter, post-Blight, and holds that post for several years before stepping aside in favour of young Alim Surana.
Following Maric's precedent, the retired Court Enchanter is granted the title (and corresponding freedoms) of Archmage. As Archmage, however, Wynne is a) not running around with Shale and b) deeply involved with the blossoming Queen's University of Denerim and the associated Circle of Magi clinic-slash-Formari workshop.
Partly this is just following some logical extrapolations from the fact that Wynne and Shale don't get the Bioware Canon(TM) epilogue slides in my worldstate, partly this is because I do think that Wynne cares quite a lot about the Circle itself and about teaching, and it's interesting to me to lean into that and others kinds of choices that someone who is very aware she is living on borrowed time might make.

Thanks to @brasideios and @myriath for tagging me! This sounds super fun!!
The rule is to post the first lines of your last 10 fics from ao3, or of all your fics if you're not at 10.
I'm going from the most recent to the oldest.
1 - Tales Of Dionysos
It's been a while since he last used it. A long time, he thought between barely muffled moans... As he bit his lower lip, Dionysos let himself slide down the olisbos once more.
It's a story that tells bits of the mythology of Dionysos through the lense of Hades Game.
2- Beer Slick
Workers from all the city were placing the last garlands over the streets when the convoy arrived, slow and noisy. Angles and Norwegians hand in hand, talking and chanting along the way. At the front of the cortege, Soma and Sigurd.
Here, 2 characters from Valhalla have hot interactions (involving beer) during a festival celebrating one of Eivor's first successes. Little hint: the characters are not Soma and Sigurd!
3 - After Class Lessons
It was a training session like any other. Zagreus was showing promise as usual, Achilles complimenting him on his ever growing skills. As they were tidying their fighting equipment, the son of Hades made a suggestion that left the warrior astounded.
Zagreus has a request only Achilles can honor...
4- In The Heart Of Ishgardian Winter
When Ser Aymeric de Borel finally decided to put his quill to rest, darkness had already wrapped the Holy City for a long time with its wintry harshness. Important documents, there would be plenty others to sign in the morning. But at this hour, no one would dare to come and disturb his sacred hours of serene slumber.
Sociability rules over Lord Aymeric's days, solitude over his nights... Until a long lost love reappears in his life.
5 - A Night With Brasidas
It's been a few days since Alexios had left the town of Athens and Demosthenes' warm bed. Sometimes at night, dreams of the polemarkhos caused him to wake up with an abrupt erection he had to take care of urgently. That was the sign he grew attached to the man… And needed to forget him in the strong arms of another one.
Does this need to be summed up lol?
6- A Night With Demosthenes
Once upon a time in Ancient Greece, a mercenary was providing his services to both sides during a hard fought civil war. Nothing particular, you may say. Yet he was not the usual sellsword as he didn't request any money.
The prequel of the one above. By now, you've probably guessed what the mercenary requires...
7- A Show For Dionysos
The big day was approaching, along with intensive preparations. Back home until the opening of the ceremony, Thaletas supervised the operations that would seal his admission into the syssitia, provided that his companions deemed him deserving of the honor.
Thaletas in his younger years, torn between duty and desires...
8- A Thirst To Quench
Mykonos and Delos had got their serenity back. The islands were firmly in Spartan hands since a certain misthios had led his ship to those shores.
Feelings that had been bottled for too long... Here is the story of two Spartans who have learnt to drink life and love straight from the source... A story involving Thaletas and Herodianos, a NPC from the Silver Islands. Many thanks to @brasideios for having given flesh to the man under the helmet.
9 - Unavowed Yearnings
With hindsight, the windy afternoon that was supposed to herald a new era for the Silver Islands had turned to a storm about to wreak havoc.
The prequel of the story above!
10- Encounter On The Storm Coast
The Storm Coast had never seemed to live up to its name as much as it did on that day, Aldarion lamented. The Grey Warden, who conducted a small expedition to find Stroud, understood better why the Herald of Kirkwall's ally had found refuge in this place.
This story has been inspired with the codex entry named A Grey Warden's Journal in Dragon Age Inquisition. The material was too good to be left aside...
Bonus...
The heat withered most of the poppies, he lamented as he cast his glance over the roadside on his way to Korinthos.
Those are from a story called Under The Canopy that's not published yet on AO3.
A Greek assassin will experience a lot on his latest mission...
And I tag @filifuck on this game!

Lord Rickard Stark
Age: 48 || Played by: NPC
Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North, and head of House Stark during the reign of King Aerys II Targaryen and not Rhaegar Targaryen. Rickard is the only child of Lord Edwyle Stark and Lady Marna Locke. A man of honor and ambition, Southron ambition as some could say with his Betrothal of his eldest to the Lady Catelyn instead of one of his own vassals and the betrothal of his daughter to Robert Baratheon. He’s fiercely protective of his family and home, doing what is best for them and the North will always be his priority.
Lady Lyarra Stark
Age: 47 || Face Claim: Caitriona Balfe || Played by: OPEN
Attuned to the Old Gods and a proud and faith-bound woman. Lyarra is the mother of Brandon, Eddard, Lyanna, and Benjen. A gentle matriarch and a woman of good moral character, it is important to her to ensure her children know the stark difference between right and wrong. She lives her life as if she is always about to be judged by the Old Gods and has an honest wit and a keen sense of justice. While kindly and good-humored, she is an apt foil to her winter storm of a husband. While Rickard can seem cold and fearsome, his wife alone is able to withstand his wolf’s blood and the fearsome nature of her children.
Lord Brandon Stark
Age: 30 || Face Claim: Clive Standin || Reserved by: Hugglepug
The eldest son and heir to Lord Rickard Stark and Lady Lyarra Stark, Brandon is said to have originated from the wolf blood. His hot temper and ability to take what he wants without shyness or issue are traits he has possessed since he was a young boy. He wanted to learn the sword, so he became the best amongst his siblings. He wanted to joust, so he became excellent at it, some calling him a centaur when upon a horse. Always a man of Honor, Brandon will challenge anyone who disrespects his family, he’d cut everyone down who slights them. He’s to marry Catelyn Tully within the next couple moons. To several he’s expressed that he’s doing it for the advantage it gives his father and house, but would much rather marry the daughter of a northern bannerman. His reputation with women is known and it’s likely he has several bastards running around or in bellies already.
Lord Eddard Stark
Age: 25|| Face Claim: Tim Mison|| Played by: Dante
Second son to Lord Rickard Stark, Eddard is an all too different soul to his elder brother. Where Brandon boasts courage and his legendary wolf blooded temper, Ned instead holds a much more gentle and quiet soul. Still a full man of The North, Ned holds to values of honor, integrity, and righteous fair justice. Holding a close relationship with both the houses of Arryn and Baratheon due to being raised in the Vale, Eddard is a talented swordsman but his future seems uncertain as to its direction without a role being needed yet of the young wolf but rumors have risen that a match is soon to be made. As tensions continue to mount, Ned only hopes for stability and prosperity for his family and the North in contrast to his close friend Robert who would much rather pursue vanity and fame. Eddard hopes the encouraged betrothal between Robert and his dear sister Lyanna will quell the man's antics and draw out the honor Eddard held admiration for within his close brother in all but blood.
Lady Lyanna Stark
Age: 24 || Face Claim: Janet Montgomery || Played by: Shayla
Born the only daughter of Rickard and Lyarra Stark. She arose as the pride and joy to her parent’s eyes as she was the true definition of brazen Stark. Often it has been teased that she has the blood of a wolf coursing within her. Cloaked with an independent and brave nature, it has often proven to be something to test the entirety of her family. Lyanna though proudly carries this nature of her as she is content with who she has always been. In more recent years, she quickly became defined as the beauty of the North and though she cared not. She is witty and cunning with the nature she wields, though often deemed playful by those who know her. A fire kindles strong within her as she yearns for more of the world and to leave the North that she truly does cherish.
Lord Benjen Stark
Age: 20 || Face Claim: Louis Partridge || Reserved by: Birdie
The last-born son of Lord and Lady Stark, Benjen doesn’t carry the serious demeanor most northerners take. He’s friendly, cheerful, and enjoys Summer Wine - perhaps in excess. His responsibilities are few, and he’s still trying to come into his own. He considers himself closest to his sister Lyanna, as they are closest in age, and both have the least responsibility within their family’s structure, with Benjen being a third son and Lyanna being a woman. He has no plans to marry or have children, as he is more interested in finding something of substance within himself. Benjen has already expressed to his parents and siblings that he wants nothing to do with marriage, and he doesn’t plan to change his mind any time soon.

Dragon Age development insights and highlights from Bioware: Stories and Secrets from 25 Years of Game Development
Some really tasty factoids here.
Tumblr media
Cut for length.
Dragon Age: Origins
The continent of Thedas was at one point going to be named Pelledia, a name initially floated by James Ohlen
“Qunari” was a temporary name that ended up unintentionally sticking, much like “Thedas”
Mary Kirby wrote the Landsmeet. To this day, nobody understands how it works, except possibly her. If she’s “really really drunk” she can explain how it works. There’s as many words in it as Sten’s entire conversations put together
Concept art for Thedosian art - as in in-world art - draws heavily on Renaissance-era portraiture, the Art Nouveau movement, religious styles and media like stained glass, and favorite pieces from the golden age of illustrations in the early 20th century
Andrastianism in-world (art-wise) is depicted in wildly different methods depending on who in-world made the art in question. “One religion, 3 different lenses”. There’s the Chantry take, the Orlesian take and the Fereldan take; each with its own different interpretations, different mediums and different stories
The stained glass images were drawn by Nick Thornborrow for DAI, to decorate religious spaces in that game “and beyond”
irl Viking art influenced Ferelden
Greek and Italian art influenced Orlais
The book also had other insights into and anecdotes from the development of DAO, but I’ve transcribed them recently as they’re essentially the stories DG has recently been relating on the awesome Summerfall Studios DAO playthrough Twitch streams. (On those streams he provides dev commentary while Liam Esler plays through DA. The ones with DG are currently once every two weeks. Check them out! Here’s a calendar where you can check when the next one is) Instead of repeating myself I’ll just provide the link to the first transcript. From there you can navigate to the subsequent parts. Note these streams are ongoing. At this point I will also point you to a related post which is cliff notes of the Dragon Age chapter in Jason Schreier’s book Blood Sweat and Pixels.
Dragon Age II
DAO had the longest development period in BioWare history. In contrast DA2 had the shortest
Initially DA2 was going to be an expansion to DAO. A few months in EA said “Yeah, expansions like these don’t sell very well, so let’s make it a sequel.” So it suddenly became DA2 and they had to make it even bigger, although they still only had 1.5 years of time in which to do this
Production of DA2 officially lasted only 9 months, and at the time the team was still supporting live content for DAO! They finished development that January after the design team crunched all the way through the holiday period that year. Then it went to cert 9 times
The limited time they had is why the story takes place mostly in and around 1 city, and over 7 years (so it was temporal, rather than over physical distance, because a more expansive world would have taken more irl time to make)
They had no time to review even the main plot. Mike Laidlaw pitched the idea of 3 stories taking place at different points in the PC’s life, tied together by Varric’s recollections of events. DG rolled with this and made 1 presentation on the idea. This presentation was then approved and off they went
As they were writing DG realized that there was going to be no oversight and that everything was going to be a ‘first draft’. “Because nobody had time.” He sat down with the writers and said “Look, here’s the conditions we’re working under. A lot of what we’re putting out is gonna be raw. We’re not going to get the editing we need. We’re not going to get the kind of iteration we need. So I’m going to trust you all to do your best work.”
Looking back, DG has mixed feelings on DA2. “A lot of corners were cut. The public perception was that it was smaller than DAO. That’s a sin on its own.”
Despite this he thinks DA2 has some of the best writing in the series, especially character-wise. The DA2 chars are his favorite
The pace with which production progressed may in some ways have helped. “When we do a lot of revision, we often file away [as in buff off] some of the good writing as well. Somehow DA2′s whirlwind process resulted in some really good writing”
The pace meant chars landed on the writers in various stages of completion. For example Isabela was fairly defined due to appearing in DAO. In contrast Varric at the start was just that single piece of widely-shown concept art
Varric was conceived as a storyteller not a fighter. His skills are talking and bullshitting. Hence the question became, so what does this guy do in combat? The direction was to make him as different as possible to Oghren, so not a warrior. He couldn’t be a dual-wielding rogue in order to differentiate him from Bela. But you can’t really picture this guy with a bow. “For a dwarf, it would probably be a crossbow. We didn’t have crossbows, or we only had crossbows for the darkspawn. And they were part of the models. We didn’t have a separate crossbow that was equip-able by the chars. They had to like, crop one off a darkspawn and remodel it. And that became Bianca” (quote: Mary Kirby)
“Dwarven mages are exceedingly rare.” [???]
If DAO was a classic fantasy painting, DA2 was a screenshot from a Kurosawa film or a northern Renaissance painting. (Here Matt Rhodes was commenting on art style)
John Epler: “In any one of our games, there’s a 95% chance that if you turn the camera away from what it’s looking at, you’ll see all kinds of janky stuff. The moment we know the camera is no longer facing someone, we no longer care what happens to them. We will teleport people around. We will jump people around. We will literally have someone walk off screen and then we will shift them 1000 meters down, because we’re fixing some bug.” John also talked about this camera stuff in a recent charity Twitch stream for Gamers For Groceries. There’s a writeup of that stream here
Designing Kirkwall pushed concept artists to the limits of visual storytelling, because it has a long history that they wanted to be present. It was once the hub of Tevinter’s slave empire, so it needed to look brutal and harsh, but it also then needed to feel reclaimed, evolved, and with elements of contemporary Free Marches culture
The initial plan was for DA titles to be distinguished by subtitles not numbers, so that each experience could stand on its own rather than feel like a sequel or continuation. (My note: New PCs in each entry make sense then when you consider this and other factoids we know like how DA is the story of the world not of any one PC). Later, DA2′s name was made DA2 in a bid to more clearly connect the game to its predecessor. For DAI they returned to the original naming convention. (My note: so I’d reckon they’d be continuing the subtitle naming convention for DA4)
DA2 was initially code-named “Nug Storm”, strictly internally
The Cancelled DA2 Expansion - Exalted March
This was a precursor to DAI
It was meant to bridge the gap between DA2 and DAI
It focused on the fallout from Kirkwall’s explosion, with Cory serving as the villain
Meredith’s red lyrium statue was basically going to infest Kirkwall and it would end up [with what would end up] the red templars taking over Kirkwall and essentially being Cory’s army
To stop him Hawke would have recruited various factions, including Bela’s Felicisima Armada and the Qunari at Estwatch, forcing Hawke to split loyalties and risk relationships in the process
It was meant to bring DA2′s story to an end and end in Varric’s death. DG was very happy with this because all of DA2 is Varric’s tale. The expansion was supposed to start at the moment Cassandra’s interrogation of him ended in the present. “And we finished off the story with Varric having this heroic death.” It tied things up and would have broken many fan hearts, something BioWare writers notoriously enjoy. But between a transition to the new Frostbite engine and the scope of DAI, the decision was made to cancel EM, work any hard-to-lose concepts into DAI, and in the process save Varric’s life. DG has talked about the Varric dying thing before
Concept art for EM explored new areas previously not depicted in the DA universe, with costumes that reflected next steps for familiar chars. Varric was going to war, what would he have worn? With Anders, if he survived DA2, the plan was to present a redeemed Warden
A char that vaguely resembled Sera in DAI was first concepted for EM. This fact was mentioned near this concept art (see the female elf) and this concept art of Bethany with the blond bob
The writers sketched out plans to end it with Hawke having the option to marry their LI. This included alternate ceremonies for party members like Bethany and Sebastian if the player opted not to wed. There was even a wedding dress made for Hawke. This asset made it into DAI (Sera and Cullen’s weddings in Trespasser). The dress can also be seen in DAI during an ambient NPC wedding after completing a chain of war table missions
The destruction of a Chantry was explored in concept art as it might have happened in EM. This idea ended up carrying over to the beginning of DAI. (My note: Lol, the idea that DA2 could have had 2 Chantries being destroyed in it 😆)
World of Thedas
Sheryl Chee and Mary Kirby started with “a disgusting little dish called fluffy mackerel pudding”. In the middle of DAO’s busy dev period one of them (they can’t remember who) found a recipe online for this, scanned in from a 70s cookbook. “I don’t understand why it was fluffy. Why would you want fluffy mackerel pudding?” MK says. “We loved it so much we included it in a DAO codex.”
This led them to create more food for Thedas, full recipes included, like a Fereldan turnip and barley stew from MK and SC’s Starkhaven fish and egg pie. The fish pie became Sebastian’s favorite. “To me it made sense for it to be fish pie because a lot of the Free Marches are on the coast”, SC says, “It was something that was popular in medieval times, so I thought, let’s make a fish pie! I looked at medieval recipes and I concocted a fish pie which I fed to my partner, and he was like ‘This is not terrible’”
For WoT the whole studio was asked to contribute family recipes which might have a place in Thedas. SC adapted these to fit in one Thedosian culture or another, including a beloved banana bread that localization producer Melanie Fleming would regularly bake to keep the DA team motivated. “Melanie’s banana bread got us through Inquisition”
DAI
It says part of DAI takes place in or near the border with Nevarra [???]
This game was aimed to be bigger than DA2 and even DAO in every conceivable way
The first hour had to do a lot of heavy lifting, tying together the events of DAO and DA2 while introducing a new PC, new followers etc in the aftermath of the big attack. DG rewrote it 7 times then Lukas Kristjanson did 2 more passes
DG: “Our problem is always that our endings are so important, but we leave them to last, when we have no time. I kept pushing on DAI: ‘Can we work on the ending now? Can we work on the ending now? Can we do it early on?’ Because I knew exactly what it was going to be. But despite the fact that it kept getting scheduled, whenever the schedule started falling behind, it kept getting pushed back... so, of course, it got left til last again.”
“The reveal of the story’s real antagonist, Solas, a follower until the end, when he betrayed the player”. “Solas’ story remains a main thread in Inquisition’s long-awaited follow-up” [these aren’t DG quotes, just bits of general text]
Over the course of development they had 8 full-time writers and 4 editors working on it. Other writers joined later to help wrangle what ended up being close to 1 million words of dialogue and unspoken text. While many teams moved to a more open concept style of work for DAI, the writers remained tucked away in their own room, a choice DG says was necessary, given how much they talked. All the talking had a purpose ofc as if someone hit a bump or wall in their writing they would open the problem up to the room
As writing on a project like DAI progresses, the writers grow punchier and weirder things make it into the game. This is especially the case towards the end of a project (they get tired, burned out)
Banter and codexes require less ‘buy-in’ (DG has talked about this concept a few times on the Twitch streams) from other designers. DG liked to leave banter for last as a reward because it was fun. Banter begins as lists of topics for 2 followers to discuss. These may progress over time or be one off exchanges. One banter script can balloon to well over 10k words. “The banter was always huge because we were always like, laughing, and really at that point, our fields of fucks were rather barren, so we would just do whatever”
The bog unicorn happened pretty much by accident. It was designed by Matt Rhodes and was one of his fav things to design. They needed horse variations and he had already designed an undead variant which was a bog mummy [bog body]. irl these are preserved in a much different way to traditional mummies. When someone dies in a bog their skin turns black and raisin-like. The examples we know of tend to have bright red hair for whatever reason. It’s a very striking look and MR wanted to do a horse version of this as he thought it’d be neat. 5 mins before the review meeting for it he had a big ‘Aha!’ moment, quickly looked up a rusty old Viking sword, and photoshopped it through its skull like that was how it died. “And I was like, ‘I just made a unicorn. Alright, in it goes!’” It got approved. “So we built the thing. It fit. It told a little story”
With the irl Inquisition longsword, one of the objects they tested its cleaving ability on was a plush version of Leliana’s nug Schmooples
The concept art team explored a wide variety of visuals for the Inquisitor’s signature mark. It needed to look powerful and raw but couldn’t look like a horrific wound. In some cases, as cool as the idea looked on paper, they just weren’t technically feasible, especially as they had to be able to fit on any number of different bodies
Bug report: “Endlessly spawning mounts! At one point during development, Inquisitors could summon a new horse every time they whistled, allowing them to amass a near infinite number of eager steeds that faithfully followed them across Thedas. “You could go charging across levels and they’d all gallop behind you,” Jen Cheverie says, “It was beautiful.” Trotting into town became an epic horse siege as a tidal wave of mounts enveloped the streets. Jen called it her Army of Ponies”
The giants came from DA Week, an internal period when devs can pursue different individual creative projects that in some way benefit DA. They also had a board game from one of these that they were going to put in but they didn’t have time. It’s referenced though. It was dwarven chess
Josie’s outfit is made of gold silk and patterned velvet, with leather at her waist. She carries “an ornate ledger” and she has “an ornamented collar sitting around her neck, finished by a brilliant red ruby, like a drop of Antivan wine in a sunbeam”
Iron Bull’s armor is leather. His loose pantaloons and leather boots give him agility to charge
On DAI in particular, concept artists took special care to make sure costumes would be realistic, at least in a practical ‘this obeys the laws of physics and textiles’ sense. “While on Inquisition, we thought about cosplay from a concept art perspective. Given how incredible a lot of [cosplays] are, I now am not worried about them. In fact in some cases in the future I want to throw them curveballs like, ‘All right, you clever bastards. Let’s see if you can do this!’”
2 geese that nested on the office building and had chicks were named Ganders and Arishonk (it wasn’t known who was the mom or the dad). Other possible names were Carver Honke, Bethany Honke, Urdnot Pecks, Quackwall, Cassandra Pentagoose, the Iron Bill, Shepbird, Garroose, Admiral Quackett, Scout Honking, HChick-47 and Darth Malgoose
Bug report: “The surprising adventures of Ser Noodles!” DAI was the first time the series had a mount feature, meaning this had a lot of bugs. A lot of the teams’ favorite bugs were to do with the mounts. There was a period of time where the Inquisitor’s horse seemed to lose all bone and muscle in its legs. They had a week or so where all quadruped legs were broken. It was a bit noticeable in things like nugs and other small beasties but the horse was insanely obvious. “The first time we summoned the horse [for this] and started running around, the entire QA exploration room just exploded with laughter.” Its legs flapped around like cooked fettucine, leading testers to lovingly nickname it Ser Noodles. At galloping speeds the legs almost looked like helicopter blades, especially when footage was set to classic pieces such as Wagner’s Flight of the Valkyries
For DAI the artists were asked questions like “What would Morrigan wear to a formal ball? Can Cassandra pull off a jaunty hat?”
On DAI storyboarding became the norm. John Epler: “Cinematic design for the longest time was the Wild West. It was ‘here’s a bunch of content, now do it however you want’, which resulted in some successes and some failures.” Storyboarding gave designers a consistent visual blueprint based on ideas from designers, writers and concept artists
Quote from a storyboard by Nick Thornborrow (the Inquisitor going into the party at the end of basegame sequence): “Until Corypheus revealed himself they could not see the single hand behind the chaos. A magister and a darkspawn combined. The ultimate evil. So evil. Eviler than puppy-killers and egg farts combined.”
A general note on concept art:
In the early stages of any project, before the concept artists are aware of any writing, they like to just draw what they think cool story moments could be. It’s not unusual for the team to then be inspired by these and fold them into the game as the project progresses

I'm going to be the slightly cranky dissident here and suggest that the new Warden should just be Some Person, because someone's legacy is more than just their genetic line and also sometimes kids look nothing at all like their parents. You don't have to be related to an important NPC to be cool!
Oh I have no problem with that, and I'm honestly not at all hung up on the ancestor and descendant looking much like each other at all - if there's a resemblance for such things, I generally prefer it to be subtle (as got mentioned in the post about Melli's own descendants awhile back).
Someone mentioned the idea of the new warden being an ancestor to someone Melli ran into in Nimbasa, and I think that's a fun idea, but I also think it's most fun if it's not an important NPC in this instance. Like... a trainer at the gym you battle on the way to Elesa, the clerk at the Pokemart, one of the people who gives you a line of flavour dialogue on the street! Because you're right, you don't have to be related to an important NPC to be cool! I like grabbing from canon when I can, though, rather than creating completely new OCs from thin air, even if they're just a mentioned-once-and-gone throwaway character. That's the main reason I'm doing this, as a writing prop for myself, to get an idea for looks and personality - Melli's certainly not going to be figuring this one out!
In fact... (looks over Nimbasa City NPCs), gonna say it now... the descendant is Clerk Augustin! He has a level 24 Tranquil and (as of this AU) is a mid-level manager at the local Pokemart, and his family moved to Nimbasa from Eterna City two generations ago. Melli ran into him from time to time when he went shopping, in a 'we don't talk but I recognize your face' sort of way, and he's the one who helped Melli choose a cook pot when he stormed off that one time. It was their only real interaction. Congratulations, Augustin, you have gone from not even having a wiki page to having a backstory, because you're in Nimbasa and I like your sprite art!
Tumblr media
Relatable.
He uses his Tranquil mostly for commuting, and he thinks it's kind of neat that his family can trace its line back to the Pearl Clan, though he doesn't actually know they're descended from the warden who followed Ingo. He's not much like his ancestor, though, because I like the idea inspired by the Barry ancestor suggestion of the new warden being this hot-blooded, excitable young newcomer, as that would be interesting to have Melli interact with!
Thanks for the ask - apparently a bit of cranky dissidence was just what I needed! ^U^

I did it I made a lineup of Mio throughout a year’s-worth of campaign so far. (Also rip sorry I’m on mobile, no read more...)
Miolu’vun “Mio” Vahari, Dalish, blood mage, Grey Warden—Dragon Age RPG
1. I call it his “Episode 1” look. He is one Extra™️ motherfucker. Going on his first real Grey Warden mission. Learning, after two years of being a Warden, what it’s all about. Oof.
2. He convinced a traveling merchant of enchanted items that he needed glasses with the argument “I’m blind as FUCK”. It worked. His perception went from 0 to +1 lmao. He also was busy “healing” his broken heart by sleeping around (not a new pastime for him) and fighting in the underground fighting pits. He also got a cool amulet that I forgot to color on this pic that boosts his DEX by 2. He also has +2 to communication with feline creatures (note: calling someone a “cool cat” only earns DM amusement, not +2...). He also has to make a WILL save or be compelled to pet a cat (or Khajiit) the first time he sees one. He fought a Khajiit in the pits and had to pet him. He was so embarrassed he wound up hitting him so hard he DIED..... Between this pic and the next one, he was also called on by Dirthamen and Falon’din to join with another party member to become their Champions. Mio was tasked with killing the other party member in a ritual sacrifice so she could meet with Falon’din and be gifted a new body. Unbeknownst to Mio, he died in the ritual as well. His vallaslin was changed from Falon’din to Dirthamen, and he became Dirthamen’s Champion. They’re tasked with traveling as north as the world allows to the gate where all the planes are tied and fixing it so the Creators can once again walk amongst the People. In exchange, Mio would learn the cure for the Calling. Mio also eventually uhhh fell in love with Dirthamen. They first had sex on Mio’s birthday last year, and eventually, on the journey, got engaged. Mio had been planning on proposing in the future as a surprise on Dirthamen’s holiday, but as they neared the edge of the Fade Lands, and the possibility of communication being spotty, Mio panicked and proposed earlier. They’re fiancés now!
3. On the journey North, past Thedas and the Fade Lands, Mio and crew were caught up in a sort of religious war, joining with the people they met who followed one of the party member’s gods. In the fight, Mio was struck in the torso with a spear. He also has a power as a blood mage where he can create a blood drop and control it (moving it, spying from it). He can also make it explode causing a LOT of damage. This fight was b r u t a l. Several KOs for Mio and other party members. Mio created one of these blood drops, but he’s/I’m cursed with chronic crit fails, and the spell backfired. It exploded in his face, causing him to go blind and utterly demolishing his glasses in the process. After the fight, as Mio passed out from pain, blood loss, and exhaustion, it was discovered the spear strike actually fucked up his spine to the point of paralyzation. @i-am-dert ‘s character has some magic healing gloves that can heal 1 injury per 24 hours provided it’s less than 24 hrs old. He has to choose: Mio’s spine or eyes. He chose spine. Mio, in desperation, prayed to Sylaise in the hopes of her being able to heal his eyes. Unfortunately, she couldn’t help much then. But she did know of a ritual that could. He’d have to work hard for it though, as it’s not meant for mortals. It requires 10 uninterrupted years of focus. She provided info to him, and worked with him on occasion when she could but ultimately he was left on his own to repurpose this ritual for himself. He worked his ASS off and wound up taking only about 3 months to cure his blindness! I’m so proud of him!!
4. The journey north has been rough. Once out of the Fade Lands, the ability to connect with Dirthamen and the Fade via prayer, etc, became much more difficult. Mio had gotten lucky with contacting Dirthamen for a while, but he’s been on quite the dry streak and with over a month of constant unanswered prayers, he’s gotten very discouraged. He didn’t even get to see him on his birthday this year. He’s also gotten VERY homesick. He has the ability to scry on anyone he’s familiar with on this plane. His brother is back in Thedas, spreading the word about Mio, and growing the religion. Mio is now the patron saint of homosexuality amongst the People his brother has influenced. He has his own vallaslin, too. On his birthday, he watched his brother hold a celebration back in Thedas for Mio, which definitely did not help his homesickness. That combined with unanswered prayers has put Mio in quite the bad place, mentally. Their journey has been via sea this whole time and one night during a terrible storm, their ship capsized. This strange amulet Mio had picked up spoke to him and told him it could lead them to something “only safer than their current situation”. He took it. The journey was horrible. They floated through some inky blackness, unable to do much. He watched several crew mates die, including one he’d grown very close to while he was blind. He woke up in pain and exhausted on a beach, and the crew has all gone through some very drastic magical changes. One Khajiit is now hairless, one party member NPC has total amnesia, another can’t be in the sun at all as it’s extremely painful for her.....it’s all taking its toll on Mio. The trauma of everything has rendered Mio selectively mute at the moment, and he snapped one night, cutting off all his hair he’d spent the past year growing out.
It’s been a long ass journey and they’ve still got half a world to go....

A lot of these are location based, but that doesn’t mean you have to draw or write for the location itself. Maybe you actually want to represent someone pivotal there (First Enchanter Irving at Kinloch Hold or Josephine at Skyhold) or a scene that happens there (the Hawke family’s escape from Lothering). Ultimately, just have fun and do the prompts you want to do. If you do any of these, please tag me or reblog to this post because I would love to see them!

Ten videogame/videogames series: Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, Dark Souls, Assassin’s Creed, Dishonored, The Witcher, Sekiro, Bloodborne, Hollow Knight
CHARACTERS (any game)
One character creation screen you love: Dragon Age: Origins is easy to navigate, easy to mod and you can get right to it by skipping the intro
Two of your player characters (share your protagonists!): Idun Brosca, my first Warden, and Rowena Shepard, my first and canon Shep
Three characters you wished you could romance: The Arishok, Legion, and Lucien Lachance
Four family members (characters who are your protagonist’s family): Bryce and Eleanor Cousland (I’m still not over them), Bethany Hawke, Ciri
Five best outfits (for any character): Daedric Armour (Skyrim), Sentinel Armour (DA: Awakening), franky all the rest are from mods. Vanilla outfits generally suck.

Seven villains/antagonists: The Arishok, Loghain, Samson, Sovereign, Jyggalag, The Illusive Man, Ludwig the Accursed/the Holy Blade
Eight secondary characters (non companions): Regis, the Bloody Baron, the Fire Keeper, the Doll, Duncan, Caridin, Captain Anderson, Ketojan (he should have been a companion!)
Nine favorite companions: Zevran, Anders, Legion, Thane, Mordin, Solaire, Alistair, Isabela, Tali
Ten favorite characters: Sheogorath, Regis, Legion, Mordin, Anders, Thane, Iris von Everec, Vernon Roche, Flemeth, the Outsider

Two moments that made you cry: only 2? XD Okay, Mordin’s death and Thane’s death. But there are so many more...
Three games where you would like to play/played as evil: Dragon Age: Origins and 2 (I did), Skyrim (not all-out evil but I murder NPCs for the crime of being annoying)
Four plot twists:
Five rpg choices you could never make: I could never sell Fenris to Danarius or give Isabela to the Arishok, never keep the Anvil, never destroy the werewolves, and NEVER KILL ANDERS
Six pets/animals: BARKSPAWN!!!, Rieklings (they are classified as pets!), the space hamster in Mass Effect, Roach (spawning in the weirdest places), Ser Pounce-a-Lot, Arvak
Seven spells: Storm Atronach (Skyrim), I don’t know the spell names in DA by heard but the crushing cage, various ice spells, various lightning spells, heal/group heal, resurrect!, that pull thing you have as battlemage in DA2

     the long awaited final game. it takes place not long after the sword fight, the last game, always the jewel in any successful tournament... the joust.  with the title of queen of love and beauty on the line, this is undoubtedly the competition that gains the most attention from the female members of the crowd; noble, wealthy, commonfolk, royalty and scullery maids alike. lining themselves along the edge of the field in hopes of being spotted by one of the competing gentlemen (and perhaps even becoming the next lyanna stark & rhaegar targaryen love story), the other nobles and excitable crowd takes their positions in the stands and surrounding viewing areas, and the king and queen of the iron throne take their seats on the shaded podium.    as the competitors each trot on horseback in front of the crowd, their names boomed out to the attendees;
      ℭ𝔬𝔪𝔭𝔢𝔱𝔦𝔱𝔬𝔯 𝔏𝔦𝔰𝔱;
the riverlands prince tate tully
first ranger of the nights watch, ser endymion manderly
iron islands captain lord rychärd harlaw
heir to the north, lord branden stark
ruling lord of bear island, lord bannen mormont
the thorn king emeric tyrell
     ℭ𝔬𝔪𝔭𝔢𝔱𝔦𝔱𝔬𝔯 𝔏𝔦𝔰𝔱;
*the following characters are open connections or have been mentioned by active characters, and the admins have entered them in the joust
bosun of eilee’s breath under the storm queen, kilvard
ser theron payne, a crownlands knight
ser leon snowsson, second in command under lord branden stark
    ℭ𝔬𝔪𝔭𝔢𝔱𝔦𝔱𝔬𝔯 𝔏𝔦𝔰𝔱;
*the following characters are NPCs that are competing
captain oren pyke of the iron isles
barrowton ruling lord edderion stark
petyr stone, tavern owner
council member, lord jeor mormont
        𝔉𝔦𝔯𝔰𝔱 ℜ𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡,
the first round sees the council member of the north, lord jeor mormont pitted against crownlands tavernkeep petyr stone. it takes but one round and the redheaded mormont lord is unsaddled to groans of disappointment from his kin in the crowds.  then come two northern lords, ser endymion manderly of the nights watch and ser leon snowsson, and there’s a cry of surprise when the first ranger of the crows is sent tumbling from his saddle by the unknown northern knight.
the grounds are cleared, and the next two are announced; the thorn king emeric tyrell against the iron isles captain oren pyke, and it’s not a surprise when the king of the reach easily unseats the pyke lord - and a cry of dismay comes from those loyal to house greyjoy as oren’s helmet is removed and it comes clear that a shattered piece of wood from the lance has embedded itself in his throat... he dies in minutes.   as his body is removed, the next two pair face across the grounds as the crowd cheers; a taste for blood inspired.  the riverlands prince tate tully stares down his lance at the recently knighted ser theron payne - and a roar comes from the riverlanders when the payne knight is sent tumbling from his saddle, completely unconscious.
the second last pairing of the first round takes the field next, horses tossing their heads at the smell of blood and sweat as the crow cheers.  from each end of the pitch stare two nothern lords; lord branden stark and his uncle and lord of barrowton, lord eddarion stark. there’s a strange air of tension in the hair, as any northerner would know that the two branches of house stark have never seen eye to eye.   perhaps that’s what gives lord branden his upperhand as his lance blows through the shield and sends his uncle flying from his horse into the dirt. and finally, the last pair of the first round; the ruler of bear island and winner of the archery, lord bannen mormont and the iron isles council member lord rychärd harlaw.   the northmen give a yell and cheer as he bear island lord unseats the iron islands lord, and apparently it no surprise to him as he stands quickly and gives a comical bow, and then gives a salute & grin to lord bannen before picking up a short girl who had run out onto the grounds and into his arms, and then exiting off into the crowd.  cheers rain down for the northern lord, the northmen bellowing support for one of their own.
and with that, the next round is set...
       𝔖𝔢𝔠𝔬𝔫𝔡 ℜ𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡,
when the tavernkeep petyr stone leaves the competition, it allows the previously excluded due to odd numbers, stormlands bosun kilvard to take his place against ser leon snowsson.   the round is quick, but what happens after is not.  ser leon is unseated on the first blow, but a foul name is called and a fist is swung and suddenly there are a half dozen stormland and northmen brawling on the jousting field.   it is only stopped when the kingsguard pull the men apart, and it is quickly decided that neither kilvard nor ser leon would be allowed to continue competing.
the next round pits the thorn king emeric tyrell against the riverlands prince tate tully, and it takes four attempts before either is able to land a blow.  first king emeric’s shield is shattered, and then prince tate is almost knocked from his steed... the crowd is on it’s feet as the final blow is delivered, but it is truly a double edged sword; the riverlands prince struck square in the chest, and the thorn king in the shoulder as they both unseat each other, neither will advance.. leaving only one pairing left, automatically the finalists.
       𝔉𝔦𝔫𝔞𝔩 ℜ𝔬𝔲𝔫𝔡
with a disappointed groan, the riverlands prince and the thorn king exited the grounds as the last two lords took position on the grounds opposite each other.  the archery winner and ruling lord of bear island, lord bannen mormont, and the heir of winterfell and ambassador of the warden of the north (also lord mormonts liege-lord), lord branden stark.   the final bets are placed, and the eligible ladies leant forward excitedly to see who would win and who they would crown as the queen of love and beauty.
positioned opposite one another - the deep north and the heart of the north compete for the title of champion, while the two lords seem to carry no personal grudge, the prospect of the little known house sweeping yet another game out from under the great houses had the crowd as a whole, not just the northmen, whipped into a frenzy.  and now their lances raised and the hooves of the horses flicked dirt as they speed up...
a lance splinters off the shield of lord branden - earning a shocked, collective gasp from the crowd as very few held in hope for the stark lord. re-positioning themselves, the duo face down once more again and it seems the new lance brings the bear island lord some shocking luck.
lord stark tumbles, but breaks his fall with a tucked roll and is able to stand and dust himself off, waving away assistance.  with a mighty cheer from the crowd (and many, many groans from those who still hated the north), lord bannen mormont is announced the champion of the joust to the absolute shock of even him.  he is awarded a crown of flowers and is asked to name the queen of love and beauty.   the stark heir, having come in second - nods respectfully to his opponent before disappearing among the crowd.
lord bannen remounts his steed and, upon finding a familiar fair-haired woman in the crowd.   the mormont champion, in front of all the attendees, places a crown of flowers upon the kings sister, lady lysella lannisters head, crowning her the queen of love and beauty of the tourney of this year, 505AC during the reign of king arryk lannister.
CHAMPION: 350 Gold Dragons, Lord Bannen Mormont
QUEEN OF LOVE & BEAUTY: Lady Lysella Lannister

The Hand and The Capitol (session 5)
Welcome back to the Merano campaign!  All character names are in bold, spells are in italics.  Party members are tagged “merano: [character name]”.  Locations visited (cities, specific establishments) are tagged “location: [NAME]”.  Important npcs are tagged "npc: name" from this point on. All posts for this campaign are tagged “campaign: merano”.
INTRODUCTION:
Last time, our party met the powerful cleric, Yüzük Hypnos, in her tower the Dreamspire, where she took an interest in who was trying to kill them. She's suspicious but the party decides she's being truthful and let her know that they're tracking down some suspicious activity originating from the Virasti family in the city of Feolinn. They learn a number of things, there's a planar scar over the ocean, the Tuonos are close allies with the Virastis and patrons of her research, the rift outside of the Embers switches back and forth between the different elemental planes, and the Denethor Meteor Shower 30 years ago had massive magical effects that can only be accounted for by planar involvement. She also takes an interest in Delphie, knowing someone plagued by visions when she sees them, and offers her a warning to brace herself for what's to come. She also gives her a Sending bracelet and the party a bag of Dreamspire Powder. Setting out back for The Dapper, Calypso ends up alone with Captain Monpress who confronts them for being a pirate and asks what they were going to do with an arcstone. They insist they knew nothing and wiggle their way out of the conversation. The party regroups below decks and settles in for the night, starting to come up with a plan for what to do when they reach Feolinn the next day. Hugo makes a faux pas and leaves, when Calypso tries to reassure him, Marasmius and Delphie start gossiping amongst themselves. Night falls, with a ship headed in their direction.
IT IS NIGHT ON THE STARFIRE RIVER, AND THE PARTY’S SLEEP IS FRAUGHT WITH NIGHTMARES.
Marasmius is back in his office at Akonerry, the space is flooded and destroyed, his life’s work reduced to nothing, the figurine of Orsum on his bookshelf watches over the destruction, her eyes glowing in the darkness.
Calypso is back in their apartment in Kerras, waking up stiff and sore.  The morning is unassuming until their prosthetic arm starts to rip itself free from their shoulder.
Hugo is stranded over top of the open ocean, with nothing to see for miles.  There is a mind-numbing pain in his skull, invisible hands are trying desperately to patch his head back together.  The sky is split in two by lightning and he falls into the water, the hands still scrambling for him, trying to save him as the sky above lights on fire.
Delphie is back at Akonerry, in the courtyard, and her friend Cassandre is there in her shroud, standing between two statues of Hecare where the Cornucopia would normally be.  She asks if she’s ready for what’s to come, and turns to dust when Delphie tries to hug her.
Calypso wakes up and goes above decks, the rest of the party is still out of sorts upon waking up and Marasmius has just decided that this morning is a wash and goes back to sleep.
Calypso can see that the ship from the night before has gotten much closer, not right on them yet but getting even closer.  It is a massive, very well-maintained merchant’s ship with green trim and flying pennants in the colors of the Feolinn Merchant’s Guild.  There are a few people milling about on the deck and a little clockwork starling is flying around it.
Below decks, Calypso rejoins their friends, where Delphie has pulled out the coin to work on their plan just to find out that in her vision, it’s glowing purple.
Hugo starts trying to hide it in Marasmius’ robes while Delphie starts whispering that she thinks someone might be trying to spy on them magically.
At this point, they can hear some commotion above them.  Delphie hides the coin again a little better in some of the cargo.  As they go above decks, Delphie casts Major Image centered on all of them to disguise themselves as generic half-elves.
The merchant’s ship has caught up with The Dapper and is now astride them.  One of their crew has flagged down one of the crew to go get the captain.  But Monpress barely has a moment to get to the railing before the much larger ship puts down a wooden plank and two figures board his ship.
Seeing things start to escalate, Hugo slips back to go wake up Marasmius and get him to join the rest of them.
The first of the two figures, clearly the captain, is a leaf-green tiefling woman dressed in a crisp black and gold uniform, a leaf charm pierced through one of her horns.  The second is a ship’s cleric, wearing plate over his robes, wielding a mace, his eyes are a solid ice-blue, in stark contrast against his dark skin, and his hair is worn naturally, graying at the temples, and turning into ice halfway down
The captain, Niko Kellne of the ship Ceretal’s Fang, boldly claims that she’s here because she has reason to believe that there are stolen goods on board and they’re going to search the ship.
The party immediately freezes up, confused at first but realizing she might mean the coin.
Captain Kellne bullies her way into this, daring Captain Monpress to try and stop her, he backs down, and she takes a few of her crew below decks to help her search.
The Storm Warden (the ship’s cleric) stands guard above deck, ordering the crew of The Dapper to line up and stay out of the way.  He doesn’t talk much but offers some platitudes that they’ll be out of their hair shortly, sorry for the hold-up, etc.  The clockwork starling lands on his shoulder and chirps something to him.
The party tries very hard to act natural, and ends up striking up a conversation with the Storm Warden, while the rest of the party is hamming it up, Calypso manages to act natural.  But it’s not enough to fool the Storm Warden, suspecting that something is up, he goes into a fighting stance with his mace and calls out, “To the ACTUAL crew of The Dapper!  Get out!  OF MY WAY!”

Here is a painting I did of my dnd character Beezelbub The Lightning Lord. He’s a pirate storm warden and a very evil boi with a knack for drinking and sleeping with NPCs.
I’m definitely going to post more of this boi soon

I’m working on improving my background drawing skills so I decided to draw my DnD Party together posing for a picture at the nearby seaside cliff. Its also coincidentally the concept for a 2D Platform Game I have to come up with for my possible next study: Game Artist.
I added one of the NPCs of the DnD campaign in it so that there is some part of our lovely DM in the picture! So now you might wonder who is everyone? Well here’s a handy list of who’s who!
Starting from the top to the bottom:
The Winged Tiefling Sorcerer is known as Xarathran he’s a noble from Dis and raised by a Storm Giant on The Material Plane.
Then we have the Barbarian Shifter Grizzle, he recently joined the party!
Then we have the Shadar Kai Sorcerer known as Mai on the left, she’s a noble from The Shadowfel and also the Tutor of Laela.
Then on Laela’s left (Our Right) we have the High Elf Terrellion The Supreme Warden of The Order of Protection and someone who Laela looks up to. (He’s the NPC)
Then on Laela’s right (Our Left) there is our Half Elf Monk, Camillus he is a Historian and usually serves as a Translator between the party members.
On the most right (Our Right) there is Snipling the Rock Gnome Rogue who seems to have Pocketed some gold! He along with Xarathran is trying to learn Elven!
On the most left (Our Left) There is a Halfling Druid known as Coriander, he likes to nod and turn into Catiander (Shapeshift into a Cat).
Last but definitely not least we have The Bloodhunter Dragon Eladrin Laela, she is my character and she can’t speak Common so that’s why we need a Translator and some of the party members are trying to learn Elven! She is truly innocent!
So that’s our party and I hope to share lots of memories with them!

Your OC as a DA:I companion
I was tagged by the absolutely amazingly talented and very sweet @dinah-myles in a very interesting lil meme!
All the points are open, which means you can develope as much as you wish, as well as skip some, you don’t have to answer to all of them!
If you do it, please tag me! I’d 💛 to 👀 what your OCs would be like as a member of the Inquisition!
Here you have mine:
BASIC INFORMATION:
-Who are they? (Name, race, background):  Faeron Lavellan, elf, chaotic good. Nickname ~ ‘Dreamy’. Twin sister Nico Lavellan, elf, lawful neutral, Nickname ~ ‘Firecracker’. The twins are children of Thalion Lavellan, keeper of their clan who has freely traded with humans for sometime. However, after the chantry was destroyed in Kirkwall, tension had been slowly building before the inevitable war spilled out over Thedas involving them by proxy. It’s decided that the twins should go to look into the situation, gather information, and offer help if it is needed. Faeron and Nico are were both brought up believing in the elven gods, as such they are at first apprehensive at the idea of a ‘Herald’ of a human deity being a savour. Once recruited, Faeron can be found sat by the fire by Varric in Haven and in the kitchen cooking once you reach skyhold. Nico can be found opposite her brother at Haven and in main hall on a table covered in maps and papers once you reach skyhold.
-How are they recruited?: On your return to Haven after your first visit to the storm coast, a cutscene will trigger in which you will meet the twins.  If inquisitor is an elf ~ Nico will demand to see her clansmen is ‘safe’ with her own eyes. Faeron will be uncomfortably trying to make the situation less tense and calm his sister’s temper. If inquisitor is any other race ~ The twins will approach the party before reaching the gates, if Cassandra or Blackwall are in the party they will warn the inquisitor to be wary which will trigger a small, somewhat hilarious argument between Nico and said companion, where you can earn friendship points if the inquisitor picks either the heart option or the pleased (thumbs up option). Even if this option is not picked the twins will offer their help in the efforts to fix the hole in the sky.
-Class and specialization (You can invent a specialization and a focus ability): Faeron ~ Mage ~ Rift mage, Dreamer. Focus ability ~ Faeron is a powerful dreamer, he can take a small group out of battle completely by dragging them into a Nightmare which he can fully control. - Leliana may have some uses for him... If you can convince him to do such work.
Nico ~ Warrior ~  Rapier, When unlocked Nico will no longer use a shield and will instead equip another sword, substituting defence for speed and brutality. Focus ability ~ Nico’s style becomes a flurry of blades and low blows, she will let out a shout which increases party’s defence, critical chance, speed, and power,  if faeron is also in the party the party will gain an elemental effect on all strikes.
-Other facts: The twins both wear a matching purple sash, which is their clan colour.
As a companion:
-What do they approve of? (pious/pro-mage/pro-templar/good/evil, etc): Faeron is pro people, any decision that will benefit an innocent will gain friendship points from him. He is somewhat pro mages but not anti templar. He approves of kind and friendly Inquisitors. Faeron is sweet and flirty. He disapproves of evil inquisitors. Nico is pro inquisition, any decision made that strengthens your army. Recruiting any new companion, gaining resources, or upgrade made on skyhold will gain friendship from her.  Nico is somewhat neutral when it comes to the mages/templars, but does believe in greater freedom for the mages. Nico can be blunt if she dislikes the inquisitor and will appear as somewhat cold until you reach skyhold. She disapproves of evil inquisitors.
-What’s their relationship with the other characters?
                   Faeron     ~     Nico
*Cassandra: Neutral  ~  Friendly
*Varric: Friendly ~  Neutral
*Solas: Averse/ wary ~ Friendly
*Dorian: Friendly ~ Neutral
*Vivienne: Neutral  ~  Neutral
*Blackwall: Friendly ~  Neutral
*Iron Bull: Friendly ~  Friendly
*Sera: Friendly ~ Averse
*Cole: Friendly ~  Neutral / wary
Others: (optional)
*Leliana: Neutral  ~  Friendly
*Josephine: Friendly ~  Neutral
*Cullen: Neutral  ~  Friendly
*Morrigan: Averse ~  Neutral
-What are their personal quests?: War table, ‘We have received word from the twins father, asking for assistance with a local lord who is causing... Trouble’   Advisor Options  Leliana ~ I can spare a few of my best scouts. They can move quickly and fully assess the situation. They can also think on their feet if the need arise. Josephine ~ Ah yes. Lord Bran Perrin. He is young and... Disliked by many due to his attitude. Perhaps I can speak with a neighbouring lady I know, who holds a personal grudge? She could threaten a scandal if he does not ‘back off’?
Cullen: Sneaking around and noble bickering won’t solve the real problem! Send in a small group to stand guard for a few weeks let this ‘Lord’ see the clan is under inquisition protection! Any action taken against the clan will also be seen as a move against the inquisition and will be treated as such.
Whichever action taken you will receive a letter from the lord requesting a meeting. The young arrogant git... I mean lord, offers you a cut of the newly imparted taxes he is now levying. The inquisitor can;
Side with the twins: Which leads to Nico headbutting the lord and Faeron sending a small lightning bolt shocking the him before the inquisitor forcibly recruits him *Bran can be found shoveling dung at the stables if this option is chosen.  Faeron and Nico both Greatly Approve. Side with Lord Bran: Which ends with Nico telling the inquisitor exactly what he can do with the money. Faeron will turn and walk away sadly. Faeron and Nico both Greatly Disapprove This will also have further consequences on returning to Skyhold.
Kill Lord Bran: This option does not have any lasting consequences nor does it offer any boons. Faeron Slightly Approves ~ Nico Approves
-Banter(optional):
(If Faeron is in a romance with the inquisitor) Nico ~ Faeron, wha... What are you doing?
Faeron ~ I think the proper term is ‘Fawning’. *Sighhhhh*
Inquisitor ~ What have I told you about being adorable in public, love?
Faeron ~ *Giggle*
Nico ~ I’m going to be sick...
(If Nico is in a romance with the inquisitor) Faeron ~ *Cute noises*
Nico ~ Wha-? Heh- What was that noise for?!
Faeron ~ I’m just.. I’m so -. You two, It’s just so-.. *snuff snuff*
Nico ~ ... Faeron? Are... You crying?
Faeron ~ ... *Sob*. Nooo.... Maybe.
Cole (if present) ~ He is happy. He likes seeing you both smile. It makes him smile too. Sera (if present) ~ *laughs* You soppy tit!
Dorian (if present) ~ Now that is precious.  Varric (if present) *chuckling* Come here dreamy! There there. You are way too soft for this shit.
-Low approval: The twins will leave the inquisition.
-Trespasser ending: The twins will both be glad to meet up with everyone again. They will both express that no matter what happens you can count on them to stand by you and help in any way possible. If the inquisition is kept, the twins stay on to help in the search. If disbanded Faeron becomes a Jenny and Nico a Charger (if the chargers are alive) the twins research all ancient law on the dread wolf and share all the information they have with the elders of several clans in preparation for what comes next.
What do they approve of? (main choices)
Faeron  ~   Nico If sided with the mages:
-Conscripted mages: Greatly disapproves ~ Disapproves
-Free mages: Greatly Approves ~  Approves
If sided with the Templars:
-Disband the Templars: Disapproves ~ Disapproves
-Ally with the Templars: Slightly Approves ~ Approves
In Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts:
-Celene lives: Greatly Approves ~ Approves
-Celene dies: Greatly Disapproves ~ Disapproves
In Here lies the Abyss
-Grey Wardens join the Inquisition: Approves ~ Greatly Approves
-Grey Wardens banished: Greatly Disapproves ~ Greatly Disapproves
Other (Optional):
-Cole joins:  Approves ~ Slightly Disapproves
-Cole is not allowed to stay: Disapproves ~ Slightly Approves
-Saves the chargers: Greatly Approves ~  Approves -Saves the dreadnought: Greatly Disapproves ~ Disapproves
As a romance:
-Are they romanceable by the Inquisitor? If yes, by which?:  Both twins are both romanceable by any male inquisitor.  Faeron’s friendship route with a female inquisitor is very much like Dorian’s. Many of the flirt options will still be open.
-Do they romance another NPC if they are not romanced by the Inquisitor?: If Neither Faeron or Dorian are romanced they will start a relationship. If Neither Nico or Bull are romanced they will start a relationship.
-How would their romance be? (Description, 😘, sex and dance scenes)  Faeron is a flirty individual, however he becomes altogether flustered and somewhat withdrawn if the romance is continually pursued. The Inquisitor can find him in the kitchens where he will ask if Faeron has been avoiding him. At this point if the flirting has been your response in most conversations and depending on approval Fearon will admit that he’s been trying to stay away as he can’t stop thinking about you he thinks he might be falling in love... And that would be stupid.... Right? You can choose to enter a relationship with him or turn him down.  If pursued, a tender kiss will trigger.
The sex would take place in the inquisitor's quarters after wicked eyes and wicked hearts. Faeron would check in to see how the inquisitor was holding up telling him he has a surprise for him. He would then provide a selection of his finest baked goods and tell him everything will be okay, and just don’t tell Nico about the cookies or Cullen about the cakes! After the sex Faeron would assure the inquisitor that even if he doesn’t believe in the maker, he does believe in him, and no matter what, he will always be right beside him.
The 😘 scenes would happen with Faeron sat on the boarded up well by the stables his arms around the inquisitor.
At Halamshiral, Faeron would be very excited to dance, but then blush and insist only if the inquisitor wanted to.
Nico is a confident lover. If a romance if pursued she will gradually warm to the inquisitor and approach him and ask to speak freely. She will express her admiration for the inquisitor and her desire for a more intimate setting for them to get to know each other better. At this point if a romance is entered into a passionate kiss is triggered.
The sex would take place in the room above the tavern. After which Nico would ask where the inquisitor wanted this to go? She would express a desire to see where this goes and admit she, despite herself, for having feelings for the inquisitor. And no matter what, she is proud to be part of the army he has created.
The 😘 scenes would happen with Nico Pulling the inquisitor into a passionate embrace against the wall at Skyhold’s gate.
At Halamshiral, if the inquisitor expressed a desire to dance she would at first appear disinterested and mutter something about ‘Elves of grace that floor to clean it.’ She would still ask if he would like to dance once she checked in on him.
-How would the Trespasser romance be?: If either twin was romanced they can be marred in trespasser. Nico speaks of children, Faeron speaks of a puppy and then adds or maybe something more serious?
This is it! Phew... I *chuckles* I wrote a LOT of shit! Lol! I hope you enjoy this!! :D

Ever wanted to know who the ruler of a certain Orlesian city is? Need connections for your Orlesian OC, but weren’t sure where to start? Look no further! Here I have attempted to compile a list of the named & notable Orlesians found in the Dragon Age games, primarily those that are alive during the events of the games & tie-in novels  ( although a few historical figures are also included for reference. )  Note that it only includes individuals; families that are referred to by the family name, but with no individuals singled out, are not included, nor are unnamed NPCs. Characters that live in Orlais but would likely identify with heritage from elsewhere are not included ( i.e. Josephine would be considered Antivan rather than Orlesian. )  Lastly, some characters may fit under more than one subheading, but are only listed once  ( i.e. Gaspard is both royalty and a chevalier, but is only under the former heading. )
Shoutout to Erran for the Fereldan and DAO NPC List, which served as inspiration to compile a similar reference for Orlais. Given the scarcity of Orlesian blogs in the rp fandom, this won’t serve as a masterlist of rpers, but I can make a second list if that interests anyone!
List will be periodically updated, as it’s by no means complete yet! If you notice a particular character is missing, feel free to reblog and mention the name(s) in a comment / the tags on a reblog, or send it in a message. Reference a source if possible  ( game, war table mission, book, etc. ) And with that ...
