holy shit I did NOT realize how popular my "I will remove my teeth, for I want to remain kind despite my anger" quote is. I just googled it for fun to see what would come up, a bunch of people are quoting it not knowing who its from, an artist called Kuma made an album titled that, so bizzare

Could you recommend us some of your favorite hinny fics? Love your work btw!
Thank you <3
I would tell you to look at my bookmarks on Ao3 but I'll give you some highlights (I'll keep wips out of this because I never know how to feel about recommending unfinished work):
Gone was any trace of you -- I'm pretty sure I've read this something like a billion times, I can quote it word by word
Come stay for the summer -- this is always such a light fun work to re-read, I'm a big fan of muggle hinny, I really have a soft spot for it
Altered -- the obsession I have for this one-shot, this to me is hinny in its purest form
A Weasley reunion -- some hardcore pining from Harry, and fake dating, what do you want more from life?
Time -- Harry realising he wants children, with Ginny. The specific way in which the realisation is written is something I adore
Summer rain -- this is great, what else there is to say really, it's just great
Sacred new beginnings -- I love how this somehow manages to be a retelling of sixth year despite being a muggle AU with young adults hinny
Orchards -- the author definitely has a higher opinion of the "golden trio" than I have but the way she writes dialogues between Harry and Ginny is perfect, she also does a thing I love which is to make Ginny actually funny. It's one of her main personality traits and yet it's forgotten so often, I think it happens due to some sort of unconscious bias about women not being funny (not native English speakers writers are forgiven though because being funny in a foreign language can be quite hard)
After the leaves have fallen -- this talks about what I call Harry and Ginny's never-ending argument and it's written so beautifully
Everything I am is yours -- I just noticed that on ao3 it's signed as the first chapter of two but it definitely can stand on its own and is a very well done muggle retelling of Harry and Ginny's story
take what I took and give it back to you -- a beautifully written soulmates marks au that doesn't really change Harry and Ginny's story but, as one of the comments says, seems to bring up an existing implied element of the canon one
Already here -- because Hannah's stories that I love the most (they are all great though) are wips, I'll put this one in the hopes that one day she'll decide to turn it into a multi-chapter story (@takearisk-ao3 think about it 👀)
The brilliant dance -- this is so fucking funny and entertaining while also being heartwarming. Fucked up but inevitable/obsessed with each other hinny spending their early 20s being a hot mess is my AU drug
Someone else's life -- finished reading this a few days ago, a very well developed brilliant idea
[I already know the second I post this I'll realise I've forgotten some brilliant work]

I read horror pretty much exclusively. Dark, twisted, monstrous, mysterious, the more fucked up the better.
So imagine my consternation when I crack open the latest horror book I checked out (published in 2023) and find, on the very first page, a note reading thus:
A quick heads-up about the content of this book. You're going to find marriage troubles, parental trauma, child endangerment, talk/images of infanticide, postpartum depression, suicidal ideation, bodily harm, ableism (internalized and externalized), anti-Semitism (internalized and externalized), claustrophobia, some gaslighting, and a whole lotta bug stuff. There's also a character who's a real racist, sexist piece of shit.
A horror book. For adults. With a warning that there might be horrific content ahead. *facepalm* The way it's worded feels like something straight from an AO3 author's note. "Bug stuff"? Could the author be a little more vague? They were all too happy to get very specific about everything else (i.e., internalization and externalization, just in case the reader might be okay with one or the other). Why does this author sound like they're working their way down a DNI checklist? I half expected the final line to read something like: I don't condone any of this in real life btw and anyone who agrees with this stuff (that means YOU proshitters) please kys thx lol.
As if the content warning wasn't already a turnoff, the next page included artsy and I'm sure very personally meaningful quotes from two songs by The Mountain Goats. (I know nothing about the band, but they sound like some flavor of pretentious white boy hipster folk music.)
I mean, a warning for claustrophobia? (Discomfort? In my horror?) What next, author's notes warning for fetishization/glorification of death? In a genre where I anticipate, nay, expect characters to die in gory, gruesome ways?
Christ alive. I feel like I'm losing my mind.
--
The Mountain Goats? Jesus.

yeah idk why y'all read this
i was originally going to just post this and have some tags with my reasonings, but i realized that opens me up to too much bullshit from people who may think i'm being unnecessarily mean or whatever. so i'm going to explain exactly why the screenshots above are something i hold issue with.
firstly, and i just want to get this out of the way, this post is not intended to be a hit piece against the creator. i've seen how she reacts to any mild-mannered or slightly joking criticism, so i know this post is probably going to not land well. but it isn't my intention to make her mad or anything--she's writing a piece of content for the internet, which means she is just as open to criticism as any other poster. and what i intend to go into in this post is criticism. i'm allowed to do this, as that is the nature of the internet. people are allowed to critique whatever they please, and if you don't want critique then you shouldn't post. simple as!
i am also making no attempts to posit myself as better than the creator. i'm not doing this for clout or moral superiority or any of that dumb shit. i simply want to discuss something that's been bothering me for a bit, while simultaneously warning people who haven't read this yet (who may be sensitive to the issues above) to steer clear. if things like casual racism or transphobia aren't properly tagged, then readers who are affected by such things run a risk reading this! same goes with people who are triggered by lewd content involving minors. i wanna make sure people are getting a more critical scope of this work than what has been hoisted up by others.
okay, now that i've gotten that out of the way, i'm going to get into my points.
firstly, the subtle and not-so-subtle racism throughout this fic, especially in relation to serizawa. i'm white, so there is only so much i can speak on without trampling over the words of other fans of color, but some of this feels so blatant it's odd it hasn't been noted earlier. it's important to note before i go into it that serizawa is specifically written as half-black half-japanese for this fic, in case the screenshots don't make it abundantly clear. but there are just too many moments of casual racism in this fic. i'm not talking about the plot point of serizawa being bullied as a kid for being mixed; i'm not mixed, so i can't speak on the accuracy there but it is well-known that black people face a lot of racism in japan. i'm talking about how it seems everyone else has these racist moments that aren't acknowledged by serizawa or the narration as being bad.
reigen hypothesizing over serizawa's exact ethnic background is just strange. yes he's a fairly observant guy (he has to be, with his job), but there is no canonical evidence to suggest he would immediately jump to theorizing whether serizawa is american or not. and the way it's posed in that first quote--"he has darker skin and the kind of hair texture that would likely indicate African ancestry"--is not great. that's an extremely inappropriate way to bring up someone's race. i don't think most people would stare at someone and be like "hmmm well your nose shape and hair texture would suggest you're of this race". it's racial essentialization that is only slightly covered up by the excuse of "oh he tweets in english". there are some other smaller moments of questionable wording, like calling serizawa's afro "sloppy" when it isnt (which btw there's another issue with the creator only referring to an afro as a "fro". it's a hairstyle; you're allowed to use the actual name of it). even if reigen cuts his hair in canon, he never states it's because serizawa's afro looks sloppy. (also there's something to be said about the casual racism baked into making your employee cut his natural hairstyle for a job, as that is a very real issue many black people face when wearing their natural hair or even protective styles in the workplace.)
i'm especially bothered by toichiro's very casual racist remarks. toichiro in this fic is a general bother of mine (most of which can be boiled down to "he would not fucking say that"), but the way she chooses to characterize him in relation to serizawa feels gross. calling a black man a slave should be a very obvious red flag, but also saying serizawa (again, as a black man) has a "brutal masculine appeal" is also extremely stereotypical and racist. and really there is just no need for it; toichiro's actions in canon prove how shitty of a guy he is without the need for him to be racist (along with other things i'll get to in a bit). as my girlfriend put it: he doesn't need to be a member of the fucking kkk to show he's a bad guy.
there's also, again, the very casual racist remark of calling serizawa a "dog". i don't care if that isn't the intent; when you are writing a character of color you need to be aware of your wording, even in insults (unless she intended to make tsuchiya racist, which i don't think she did).
secondly, the eugenics/child pregnancy bit. it is surreal to even have to write this, but i seriously do not understand the purpose of either of these bits in the story. they are so minor yet so jarring you can't help but wonder why they're there. once again, i do not think you need to have toichiro doing esper eugenics just to prove he is an evil guy. he has nuance, and by making him casually reference child pregnancy (like that isn't an INSANE thing to say) reduces that nuance to nothing. that's the only reason i could see why that bit was included: to make toichiro look worse. but, even still, the author is running the risk of potentially triggering victims of csa or people who don't want to see that by not properly tagging the mention of it (or, at the very least, warning readers in the intro notes). the only other explanation for it would maybe be shock factor??? but that's a pretty shitty thing to use for shock factor, if i'm honest. also the fact that the esper eugenics was referenced again in a more recent chapter just has me very disturbed and confused. there isn't a canonical explanation for why we see less espers who are women than espers who are men, but that doesn't mean we need to jump to fucking Eugenics. it's weird!
thirdly (and this is probably one of my biggest problems and the main reason i wanted to make this post), the weirdly lewd/sexual language shou uses constantly, along with referring to reigen as a pedo or a creep at several points. frankly, i think it's pretty fucking gross for someone in their near-40's to be writing a 12-year-old talking so casually about sex like that's normal. which, i'm sorry, but it's not. yes, teens know about sex and like to joke about lewd shit. but a 12-year-old is not about to make references to a grown man's virginity. 12-year-olds draw dicks on their desk bc they think it's funny. 12-year-olds say the word "buttfuck" because it has the words "butt" and "fuck" in it, and those are the two funniest words on earth to a kid that age. i literally do not understand the purpose of having shou be so lewd all the time. for one, it doesn't make sense for his character. shou is shown time and time again to be extremely mature for his age, but that maturity extends to shit like assembling a counter-terrorism unit and extending a hand to his father to allow him to try again. and even then he's still just as naive as any other kid his age! the omake where he's telling his guys to go to the "far right corner" based on ritsu’s advice proves that he still has plenty of blindspots that are indicative of his age. leaning into this raunchy, lewd version of shou is just weird. and, again, i think it is made a bit weirder given the author's age!!! not ageshaming or whatever--i'm 23 and i write fanfic, clearly i cannot judge there--but it is just extremely inappropriate in my opinion. also having shou be more versed in sextalk than serizawa is odd too and speaks to a larger issue of serizawa's infantilzation throughout this fic, but that's something i can get into in another post if people want an explanation.
also, the way she constantly calls reigen a creep and even has him being accused of being a pedophile during the twitter cancellation is extremely inappropriate when, again, there is NO CANONICAL BASIS FOR THIS! everyone just calls him a fraud and a scammer during separation arc; there is never a reference to reigen being seen as a pedophile in that arc. and, yes, while there are versions of mob psycho where reigen is very clearly written as a creep (looking very specifically at the netflix adaptation), that doesn't mean it's good. honestly, the creep mentions all just feel like really poor jokes that do not land in the slightest.
finally, the transphobia (aka WHY IS SHIMAZAKI A CHASER). i literally do not know what else to say other than: why? why is this a thing? why is he a chaser? what is the purpose of this? is it a joke? i feel like it's supposed to be, but seeing as the author is cis i don't think that's a joke she should really be making. it not only comes out of left field, but it's just kind of a weird thing to ascribe to a character for no reason. not to mention, it's uncomfortable! trans women deal with enough creepy antics from cis men in real life--why must they be accosted by this guy too? it's just weird and uncomfortable.
i wanna round out this post by saying, once again, that i'm not trying to attack anyone with this post. but i do hope people come away from this with a new perspective on this work, and maybe think twice before recommending it uncritically to someone. to the author specifically, i hope you can read my post without rage or indignance blinding you. i might be a little blunt or rude in parts, but it's only because i'm passionate and i don't mince my words when it comes to things i'm passionate about. to the readers, understand i am not judging you for reading this fic without noticing these things. your own life experiences will give you certain blindspots and there's nothing wrong with that. i have plenty of blindspots of my own! it's what makes us human.
there is more i could say, but this post is long enough. i ask that if you come to me in my inbox or in dms about this that you treat me with respect, as i will do that for you. writing something like this took a lot out of me, as i'm usually not so open about my opinion on shit like this.
have a good day :-)

Hii😄, could you talk about Alexander and hefestion's skills? Whether militarily or diplomatically, I heard that Hephaestion was better at politics, diplomacy and logistics, and that in some ways his and Alexander's skills complemented each other.
I'm always a tad amused when my own research is quoted back to me as a bit of general knowledge. 😂 That's not at all a slam, btw! I'm quite pleased it's escaped out of academia to become part-and-parcel of what people know about Hephaistion. Means I made an impact on rehabbing his career.
But yes, those things are true. I wrote about them first back in 1998, in my dissertation, then published it as part of an academic book chapter in 2010, titled "The Cult of Hephaistion" in Responses to Oliver Stone's Alexander: Film, History, and Cultural Studies, P. Cartledge and F. Greenland, eds. Complete with tables! Follow the link to read it.
I am now, some years later, returning to Hephaistion's career with the current monograph I'm working on. I've altered my opinion about some things (primarily details), and modified my take, but it remains largely the same. I've even convinced a number of my colleagues, so Hephaistion as logistics officer now appears in most summaries about him. Now, if I can just convince them he wasn't either incompetent or the quarrelsome bastard he's often made out to be.
He did have diplomatic assignments too, although he's hardly the only one. Erigyios, Perdikkas, Ptolemy...they were also used for diplomatic purposes. Plutarch (in a long contrast with Krateros) says ATG employed Hephaistion for business with the "barbarians" and Krateros for business with Greeks and Macedonians, because Hephaistion agreed with ATG's "Persianizing" whereas Krateros kept his traditional ways. From Plutarch, that's not necessarily a compliment for Hephaistion. It's also not stated so anywhere else beyond Plutarch. I have some theories I'll be discussing in the book.
IF we can take the disproportionate assignment of logistical/diplomatic assignments as any indicator, it would seem that Hephaistion was more skilled in that realm than in combat command. That isn't to say he was no good at combat command, mind (I've had some read it so, as if "not as good" = "bad" because middle ground apparently isn't permitted).
It also doesn't mean he wasn't a decent fighter. He probably was, as he seems to have been assigned to lead the agema (Royal) unit of the Hypaspists, e.g., the king's personal guard in battle. According to earlier accounts of the origin of this unit, Philip created them to cut across regional divisions, picking the largest men and best fighters. The agema was, if Waldemar Heckel is correct, drawn specifically from the sons of Companions (Hetairoi). That would back up Curtius' description of him as "larger in physique" than Alexander. (That's what the Latin actually says, not simply "taller.") But keep in mind, the best fighters are only occasionally equally good at command. Those are two different skills.
Finally, his choice as Chiliarch may also underscore some of what we've already seen in his assignments. But it's this appointment that leads some scholars to conclude that he rose due to Alexander's favoritism, not actual ability on his part. That, however, seems to me to stem from several (erroneous) assumptions.
IME, competent people surround themselves with other competent people, at least for any length of time. Flatters may be tolerated, but they're not continually advanced. It's dictators who surround themselves with yes-people (and not all of them; they also need competent individuals). Alexander may have been called a "tyrant" by the Greeks, but he wasn't. He was a king. The Greeks/Athenians/Spartans/Others were playing politics. Macedonian kings had to court their courtiers. If Alexander had been manifestly unfair in his appointments, his men would have rebelled against those officers. They rebelled...but not for that reason. They wanted to go home.
For those who regard Alexander (and Philip) as tyrannical, and/or the enemy of (Greek) freedom, and/or megalomaniacs, and lucky rather than competent, then sure. It would follow that ATG would surround himself with asslickers. But if one thinks he was actually good at what he did (which is a different thing from approving of conquest, mind), and a halfway decent politician--then no, it doesn't follow that his top officers were yes-men. Curtius bluntly tells us that Hephaistion was freer than anyone to "upbraid" the king. Doesn't sound like a yes-man to me.
I think Hephaistion was appointed as Chiliarch for two reasons: Alexander trusted him AND he could do the job. Too bad he didn't live long enough for us to see what he might have done with it.

Anyway (im high but whatever im saying this) I have seen black women unironically speak about how androphobia against black men is very much a real thing, because black men are forced to be black before they're allowed to be men.
Their androphobia isnt any less systemantic when the best encouragement they get to be allowed to be men is if they are willing to help racist white men to punch down on women. It just also doesn't help to like let em get away with misogyny. Or misogynoir just because they also face racism.
They are only Men to like, a shit ton of people when they get violent so why wouldn't they make boys think they're doing it right when they internalize that racist shit.
We try again and again to talk about how black boys are told they'll never be a real man if they can't fight for themsleves and how quickly that morphs into toxic masculinity against them, and it gets written off by white women who want every man to be their personal attacker ao they can claim they chose to be like this.
They are quickly degraded down to boy or something less than a person when they fight these systems.
I have watched respected black men call out systems and become completely rejected for not being a Man before he is Black or Kind. I've seen people say to them they're "not enough of a man to get that women don't need to be working here" (real quote btw)
Men can uphold the systems that benifit them yeah, but they have to be seen as men by the ones who most wants every one of us to stay down. Sometimes they do it all correct and they're slammed anyway, told off for an appearance that will never change to a racist.
A lot of you talk about gender like it's the center of all issues when racism has been shown to be time and time again also a pretty main fucking source.
If you ever actually read about intersectionality on somewhere that isn't tumblr or a twitter thread you'd know what the fuck it means, but you all personally wrote some random fucking definition that paints you as a perpetual victim in order to save yourself the trouble of thinking in anything but black and white. pun not intended
.
anyway this isnt fleshed out but here ive been dying to get this point off my chest even half done but if someone (whos not picking a fight) wants elaboration i can answer more specific questions probably

“i can’t pretend anymore.” , “i can’t fathom the idea of my life without you in it.” , “you are everything. everything.” & “i’m falling for you.” friends into lovers confession with Steve, Steve being the one confessing!! quotes do not have to be in any specific order btw :))
ahhh yes!!! here you go my love :)))))
warnings: being in the upside down, thinking steve still likes nancy, mention of steve's stomach wounds from the bats, not proofread
❀ masterlist ❀
Tumblr media
when the ground shook beneath your feet, you fell toward steve who wrapped his arms securely around you in an instant to make sure you were safe. your hands gripped his bare biceps for stability and in the midst of it all, you still tried to avoid his freshly-wrapped wounds. once the alternate version of hawkins ceased shivering, steve dipped his head down to meet you at eye level.
"you okay?" he asked softly as his eyes scanned over you. you nodded in response before he repeated the question for those around him. once he saw everyone was safe, they made a plan to move on to nancy's house, but steve looked to nancy and spoke mostly with his eyes and a nod of his head. she understood that he wanted the rest of them to get a headstart so he could talk to you.
"are you okay?" you finally returned his query when robin, nancy, and eddie were a good bit ahead of you and steve. "with your stomach and all? i didn't wrap it too tight, did i? it's comfortable?"
steve smiled at you to ease your nerves and because he found it immensely adorable that you were so concerned for him. "it's perfect."
there was a comfortable silence between the two of you while steve worked up the nerve to say what he needed to say. given where you were, what had happened to him, and what could possibly happen, he felt he needed to get this off his chest. also, how close you were to him earlier when you were wrapping his waist with part of your skirt really expedited his need to tell you how he felt.
his fingers circled your wrist to bring you back and your concerned eyes immediately meet his, your brows furrowing at his nervous state. the steve you knew always put on a brave face and then told you of his anxieties later, but he was looking all around, wringing out his hands, and his most famous tell-tale sign of nervousness, running his hand through his hair constantly.
before you could ask him what was wrong, he blurted out, "i'm falling for you, y/n. i can't pretend anymore. you are everything to me, everything. like, i can't fathom the idea of my life without you in it. you are my best friend, yes, but you are also the love of my life, and if you don't feel the same, that is okay. it'll suck, but i still want you to be my friend and to stick around. i really hope i'm not scaring you away because i truly do love y-"
"scare me away?" you cut him off, "you could never scare me away, steve. this… this is everything i've ever wanted to hear. i didn't want to mess with our friendship so i never said anything. plus, i thought you still had some feelings for nancy." you whispered the last sentence out of insecurity and just in case the trio ahead of you could possibly hear you even though they were well out of earshot.
steve's eyebrows shot up into his hairline. "wha- no, no, no." he was very quick to shut that down. "i have been over her for a long time and even when that stuff was going on, i felt myself growing apart from her anyway because i liked you so much."
"really?" you had no idea.
his smile widened. "yeah, of course. why do you think i like to hang out with you so much?"
"i don't know."
"can we go back to the part where you said you felt the same way?" steve didn't want to just gloss over that very fact.
"can we skip talking about it so i can kiss you?" you were too eager to get your lips on his.
he responded with a surge of movement forward and connected his mouth to yours. it was more smiles pressed against each other than an actual kiss, but whatever it was, it was the best steve had ever felt, even in the upside down.

IT'S TIME!!! IT'S FINALLY TIME FOR THE RANT ABOUT 19TH-CENTURY PORTUGUESE URBANISM!!!! (@kingkendrick7 mentioned they were interested a While ago and who am I to withhold information about my Interests)
I'll be focusing exclusively on the city of Porto in northern Portugal because it's what I studied in my Anthropology class. And also: disclaimer! I'm translating all the names of the things from Portuguese so if it sounds weird, yeah, that's why.
The Industrial Revolution in Portugal created a very weird relationship between work and personal life due to the way the cities were planned. Basically, the people who worked the factories, and even the owners, lived extremely close to their place of work - and I mean they were pretty much neighbours. The factories were also built in the city centre itself. This is much more similar to the work-life relationship of rural areas than any model existing in normal cities.
There was, at this time, a strange impasse when it came to building housing. Porto specifically is known for having extremely thin and deep plots of land in the oldest parts of the city - I'm talking 5 by 100m (approx. 16 by 328ft). No house is gonna be that deep, so there's always about 80 to 70m of backyard.
Workers were paid extremely low wages. Like, so low they couldn't afford housing anywhere. So the factory owners would ✨selflessly✨ give up their backyards and build housing for their workers.
Can we just take a moment to think about how absurd this is? Like. Imagine taking pity on your employees for being poor. My brother in Christ, WHO DO YOU THINK IS MAKING THEM POOR?
Anyway, this new type of housing is called an Island. Its name comes from the fact that it's an "island" of low-income housing in a semi-rich neighbourhood.
Basically, an Island is a long exterior corridor with tiny houses on one or two sides and communal bathrooms at the end. Here's a picture:
Tumblr media
The way this worked is that the owners of the big, street-front house would open a passage on the ground floor that could be fully closed wuth a gate. This kept the Islands invisible and, thus, out of the city hall's jurisdiction, since they can only legislate on what is visible from street level.
Here's an irl picture of an Island today:
Tumblr media
Btw they tried solving this problem bt building houses from scratch but they realuzed that workers' wages were so low that just adding plumbing would make a house unaffordable. Yeah...
Porto currently stands as the European city with the most recent outbreak of the Bubonic Plague, in 1899. This is because Islands had such poor hygenic conditions that it re-kindled the Black Plague epidemic. Just so you can kinda picture what level of "horrible" this whole thing is.
Here's a quote by David Moreira da Silva about the Islands that I translated from French:
"Housing, essential organ of the city, offers us in Porto obe of the most miserable and tragic displays and one of the grave causes that greatly contribute to the huge mortality that is constant. We say, justly, that Porto as a city is the vastest cemetery in Europe."
(Parallel to this there was also the "Sleep Business", which consisted of renting places to sleep. The main two were sub-renting, in which you rented a place to sleep and paid by the hour, and the Rope, in which you rented a piece of rope to lean on while sleeping. Thought it might be interesting to add.)
I'm not mentioning as we go because it'd be exhausting, but backlash was VERY strong every step of the way. Doctors were warning against living conditions in the Islands and city hall was trying to pass laws banning these types of buildings by extending their jurisdiction deeper into the city's plots of land. But they were unsuccessful.
They tried to propose a rehabilitation of the Islands in the early 20th century but their inhabitants basically responded with "Please tear our houses down and make us new ones somewhere else. The Islands are unsalvageable".
The whole factory work-life thing ended with the fascist dictatorship, which reorganized the city centre, but there's still plenty of people living in Islands today.
To this day, the Islands stand as a warning of what rampant capitalism does to people when left unchecked. But that doesn't stop tone-deaf bourgeois pricks from romanticizing them.
This has been a rant. I hope you enjoyed it <3

okay bear with me
one thing that’s happening is posting all those hussie book commentary quotes and seeing people sort of like criticize not just what he says but the way they speak ? is getting me because i actually quite enjoy the way they speak i always have. i find it entrancing in a way, and i think i’ve taken a lot of their -isms into the way i talk as well and so there’s this fear that people have the same annoyance towards me when i use a million words when i could have used just a few to say one thing, as there is towards hussie about it.
but i literally don’t know how to say less and that’s probably the case for them too lmao like it is just how my brain works ??? but like yeah something i see people say a lot is how pretentious they sound and how they use way too many words “to make themselves sound smart, to trick you” and i’m like uh oh. haha i do that! but not to make myself sound smart it is literally just how i talk, that’s just how some people talk. and it is so frustrating of people to assume that we do this “to make ourselves seem smarter” i mean for me it is an autism thing i think and it is like that for a lot of people i’ve seen who say they get told they do that.
for me i think it’s also a trauma thing because the big falling out i had in my life was people misinterpreting my intentions as manipulative when i had no idea it was coming off that way and had no intention of manipulating anyone. like it was so crazy to me to hear “you did this because you wanted to control us because you didn’t trust us!” and me being like uhhhhhh no i did that for an entirely different reason unrelated to you at all but okay. and so now i’m like oh god i need to always state my intentions on everyrging no matter what—this is completely unrelated to the hussie thing now btw i’m just rambling—or people are going misinterpret me as malicious!!!
dude i wish i could let people be wrong about me but when people think i am doing things specifically to hurt or control them when i am Fucking Not it is kind of fucking hard to let them be wrong about that!!!!! that is like the main thing people have been wrong about me in my life!!! that i act maliciously when i am just acting stupidly or perhaps selfishly, yes! definitely selfishly, but not with the deliberate intention of hurting other people. just without any forsight. i think i’m better about that now, about not being as selfish, i think i learned that lesson pretty damn well.
anyways i ran out of things on my mind for now goodbye. thanks for reading my diary

OC Interview;
I was tagged by @marivenah @echo3-1 @simonxriley @hoesephseed + @sstewyhosseini to answer these interview questions but as my oc, thank you sm my lovelies!🤍
So here’s a conversation with the up-and-coming Crime Lord herself; on her leader life so far and how she rose to the top of the Kyutoku Fortune! Warning: strong language and violent references included.
Tagging: @chuckhansen @queennymeria @jendoe @shellibisshe @jacobseed @risingsh0t @florbelles @indorilnerevarine @unholymilf @roofgeese @noonfaerie @denerims @liurnia @jackiesarch @confidentandgood + @phillipsgraves
Tumblr media
Name?
Rin: Rinako Kyutoku. Those worthy, call me Rin. To everyone else it’s ‘Boss’.
Interviewer: And, if they were to call you Rinako? Or Ms Kyutoku?
Rin: You’d have to be pretty stupid to do that.
Are you single?
Rin: Please be more specific. If you’re referring to my romantic status, I am exploring my options. My options being limited to one man and his many areas to explore. *smirk*
Interviewer: So… that’s a no?
Rin: That’s a: I have someone fulfilling that role, but to define it as a relationship is not in our vocabulary. He’s a want, not a need.
Interviewer: Does ‘He’ have a name?
Rin: That’s on a need to know basis. Currently, you don’t need to know, so let’s keep it that way.
Are you happy?
Rin: You’d have to be pretty idiotic to assume anyone in this world is truly ‘happy’ *with finger air quotes*.
Interviewer: That leads me to believe your chipper exterior is another of your many faces.
Rin: Possibly. Depends on the occasion. Now is not one of them.
Are you angry?
Rin: Ah! Now that’s more like it! Anger is what drives people to act. Fundamentally, it’s under all our decisions if you think about it. I like to harness my anger and channel it towards my goals, same with other people. What could be more intimidating than a crowd of any civilians storming the gates of a bigot? So yes, I am angry most of the time - people just need to learn how to use it.
Are your parents still married?
Rin: Ugh, do we need to talk about them? No, they’re not married anymore, and that’s all I’ll say on the subject.
Interviewer: Is this a sore subject for you?
Rin: It’s an irritant.
Birth Place?
Rin: Osaka Prefecture, Japan. If you want something shady done, you head there. Guess it’s kinda poetic I was created there.
Interviewer: Do you miss it?
Rin: Like a dog misses a tick.
Hair Color?
Rin: Are you blind? Go on, take a wild guess.
Interviewer: I’m going to say black?
Rin: Ding ding ding! So he does have a head on his shoulders! But alas you missed the best part: the purple is from my partner, he deals with the styling.
Interviewer: It suits you, I must add.
Rin: I know *smirk*
Eye Color?
Rin: Naturally magenta, but it varies.
Interviewer: Seems there’s more to this answer?
Rin: It’s a little party trick of mine. Stick around, maybe you’ll get lucky enough to see it.
Birthday?
Rin: Why would you want to know that? It’s…. *pauses*
Interviewer: You don’t remember, do you?
Rin: It’s unimportant information these days, I haven’t celebrated it for years.
Interviewer: I’m surprised a woman with as high an IQ as you would forget anything.
Rin: Like I said, unimportant information.
|| Jess Note: it’s august 25th btw! Dabi is the only one who remembers ||
Mood?
Rin: What kind of question is that? I thought this was a serious interview. Right now I’m starting to get pissed off.
Gender?
Rin: Unfortunately female.
Interviewer: Is it difficult being a woman in your line of work?
Rin: I wouldn’t use the word difficult. Men like to waste time by talking over matters of the body - matters I have 0 interest in indulging, yet they persist. When they persist, I remove their hands, tongues and testicles. Then they’re fuel for the fire.
Interviewer: Excuse me!?
Rin: I’m joking. *not so joking facial expression* The fire part isn’t me, that’ll be my partner.
Interviewer: So the rest is true?!?
Rin: Remember who you’re talking to. I don’t take unwanted attention lightly, and neither does he *gestures to the dark figure standing in the corner not far from their conversation*
Interviewer: I…I see… moving on…
Summer or winter?
Rin: Is this a pre-teen questionnaire? Where are the questions about my achievements? The glory of being a young leader? Get to the interesting stuff or I’m cutting this interview short.
Interviewer: I’m sorry! The people want to know more about you as a person!
Rin: Tell them I’m a stone cold bitch with very little patience left. Next question.
Morning or afternoon?
Rin: *rolls eyes* Dabi… *flames appear in the corner*
Interviewer: Okay okay, no more questions like that!!
=EIGHT THINGS ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE=
Are you in love?
Rin: Pfft, no one with as much importance or prowess as I would waste time on trivial feelings like that. Love is for the pitiful, it only brings false security and promises. Love has never reached me so I’ll never extend the courtesy back.
Interviewer: So your partner, Dabi, you don’t love him?
Rin: Oi, Dabi. Do you love me?
Dabi: Fuck off idiot and answer the question. You better say yes though, we all know you’d be lost without me *walks over and drapes arm around her shoulder*
Rin: Shut your mouth matchstick, you know our deal. No, Mr Interview Man we do not love each other. We’re just 2 unfortunately similar souls fulfilling each other’s lust. *pats Dabi’s hand and half smiles*
Interviewer: *shivers* I see…
Who ended your last relationship?
Rin: Me, obviously. Though I wouldn’t call it a relationship. They fill needs of the time, so when that need is met: I leave.
Have you ever broken someone's heart?
Rin: Probably. Might be a new record, who knows. I don’t stick around long enough to know nor care anyway.
Dabi: Ooh what a player…
Rin: I thought I told you to fuck off already?
Are you afraid of commitments?
Rin: I’m not afraid of anything. And I’m committed to many things, just not in the sense you’re referring to.
Dabi: *pulls up a chair and joins* now that one is accurate.
Rin: See?
Interviewer: So what would you say you’re committed to then?
Rin: My goals, his goals *gestures to Dabi*. Anything that isn’t societies unnatural and idealistic form of ‘normal’.
Have you hugged someone within the last week?
Rin: *Laughs* In the last week?! Try decade.
Dabi: Hey now, are you saying I don’t hug you?
Rin: *glares* does fucking count as hugging?
Interviewer: *turning red either from embarrassment or fear*
Have you ever had a secret admirer?
Rin: Oh god SO many! You hire a guy and suddenly he’s falling at your feet promising to protect you! Not so secret if you ask me. Some get too over zealous though, so then matchstick here puts them back in their place *gestures to Dabi again*
Interviewer: So you do have a somewhat ‘normal’ relationship at times?
Rin: I hate normal.
Have you ever broken your own heart?
Rin: You’d need to have one of those in the first place.
Dabi: Ouch, self burn.
Rin: Coming from you.
=SIX CHOICES=
Love or lust?
Rin: Jesus, more idiotic questions. Fine, let’s speed round this. Ready? *looks to Dabi*
Dabi: *smirks*
Both: Lust.
Lemonade or ice tea?
Both: Neither.
Cats or dogs?
Rin: Neither.
Dabi: Cats.
Rin: What? You like cats? Since when?
Dabi: It’s quick fire, quit yapping.
A few best friends or many regular friends?
Both: No friends.
Interviewer: I’m starting to feel sorry for you two…
Rin: Hey! What the fuck!?
Dabi: Cool, bout time someone did.
Wild night out or romantic night in?
Both: Wild night out.
Rin: But depends on the ‘wild’ part.
Dabi: Oh here we go Miss “sleeping in a dumpster isn’t ‘wild’ or ‘fun’”
Rin: I refuse to acknowledge that comment.
Day or night?
Both: Night.
Interviewer: Okay, that was… easier than I expected.
Rin: What’s that supposed to mean?
=FOUR HAVE YOU EVERS=
Been caught sneaking out?
Rin: *Laughs* Haha, no one’s ever caught me. In any context. Not even this guy.
Dabi: I agree that it’s impossible.
Fallen down/up the stairs?
Dabi: *side eyes her*
Rin: *fidgets* No. Next question.
Dabi: I thought you hated liars?
Rin: Fuck. You.
Interviewer: Shall I mark that as a yes?
Rin: Do you want to lose your eyes?
Wanted something/someone so badly it hurt?
Rin: Who knew ambition could be so all consuming huh? I work until I achieve what I want. Pain is just a temporary set back, regardless of how extreme.
Dabi: *raises imaginary glass* Here here!
Wanted to disappear?
Rin: I can disappear when I want, it’s not that hard.
Dabi: Yeh, tell me about it.
Rin: Really? Now? Wallow in your loneliness some other time, I’m busy.
Interviewer: Could we possibly save the argument for afterwards? I am trying to speak with-
Dabi: Hey! Watch your mouth asshole we’re venting here
=FOUR PREFERENCES=
Smile or eyes?
Dabi: Speed round again, you gotta do it
Rin: Ugh, fine.
Rin: Eyes.
Dabi: Smile.
Rin: *gives a surprised frown towards Dabi*
Shorter or taller?
Rin: Taller.
Dabi: Shorter.
Rin: Yeh, you were always a bit of a short shit until the growth spurt so no wonder.
Dabi: Oi, watch it!
Intelligence or attraction?
Both: Intelligence.
Rin: Or you’re like me and you’re born with both.
Dabi: *rolls eyes*
Hook-up or relationship?
Both: Hook up!
=Family=
Do you and your family get along?
Rin: We’re not talking about them.
Interviewer: But this is how you came to lead your family business, is it not?
Rin: Are you kidding me? They had nothing to do with it! All I can thank them for is their resentment, it’s made me who I am.
Would you say you have a "messed up life"?
Rin: *stares at the interviewer with a cocked brow* You tell me sunshine.
Interviewer: Sorry, I was going to skip that question…
Have you ever run away from home?
Rin: 26 times. Between the ages of 11 and 16.
Interviewer: Was your family life that bad?!
Dabi: Also pretty weird to keep count…
Rin: Fuck off already! You’re supposed to be on watch!
Dabi: *stands up with hands raised up* Fine, fine.. but only for you sweetheart *goes to kiss Rin’s cheek sarcastically*
Rin: LEAVE.
Have you ever gotten kicked out?
Rin: Of where? You’re gonna have to be more specific.
Interviewer: Let’s say… a restaurant?
Rin: No.
Interviewer: Really? How about a library?
Rin: Only because of matchstick. They didn’t like his smell, made them think the building was on fire. *laughs*
=FRIENDS=
Do you secretly hate one of your friends?
Rin: Paha! You’d have to have some for that to apply.
Interviewer: Not even 1 friend?
Rin: Friends are as good to me as an untied shoe lace.
Interviewer: So not even Dabi?
Rin: *pauses* …fine. 1 friend. And yes I hate him, just not very secretly.
Do you consider all of your friends good friends?
Interviewer: Correction: Do you consider Dabi to be a good friend?
Rin: As good as a gal like me can get without paying for it with blood or my body.
Who is your best friend?
Rin: What a stupid term. ‘Best friend’. “Ooh shall we sit and braid each other’s hair? Oowoowoo” ugh, disgusting.
Interviewer: I think you’re not wanting to admit that you’d like a best friend.
Rin: Intelligence doesn’t suit you, so stop trying to be it.
Who knows everything about you?
Rin: *stays silent again, looking at her feet*
Interviewer: Is everything okay?
Rin: No one knows everything about me. In fact, even you know too much *stands up*
Interviewer: Wait… WAIT!!
|| Blood everywhere!! Gahhh oooohhhh the horrrorrrrrrrrrrrr!! Anyway the end||

2, 4, 5, 11, and 33 please! Hope that isn’t too much, very curious about your answers though!! Happy early birthday btw :D
ah thank you very much for the birthday wishes (≧∀≦) getting a drum set tomorrow and i’m so hyped bout it
& the amount of questions was perfecto!! i left my answers below the cut!!
(ask game)
2: How do you come up with your plot ideas?
8/10 times, my plot ideas come from my fabulous, otherworldly, superior music taste ᕦ(ò_óˇ)!!
nah but to be serious, music and creating AMVs in my head works brilliantly for creating plots. i listen to music A LOT. i do not always construct a story based on a song but my ideas flow easier when there is a melody in the air. snippet of scenes come and go, and i scribble them down; music powers the whole process of my writing.
additionally, i think coming up with plot ideas/to strength that part of your brain to be creative and original, one should always read MORE. to lazily siphon off a Stephen King quote i can’t find: “a great writer knows to read” and then there is the 1/10, where an idea hits me, completely uninspired from anything.
but really, when coming up with plots remember this saying: no one can reinvent the wheel!
4: How do you channel characters’ voices and personalities?
studying the source material is always my go-to for channeling a character.
have not played twst in 2 yrs 💀 (bc i was on an expedition for different video games and discovered i hated rhythm games) but i always use @/yuurei20 like a study guide for the characters. and i read the translations for each event (birthdays or otherwise) to see how the characters act at different situations
and if a character has done something out-character in canon, i analyze the shit out of that. it’s really important to me when writing already canon characters to think of this one question: what’s their drive/goal (in everyday & in specific situations & in long-term)?
5: What techniques do you use to create believable dialogue?
one of my biggest insecurities in specifically the “fanfiction” writing realm is my dialogue so this question is crazzzy to me. believable dialogue?? hasn’t happened!
i still don’t think i’ve done it successfully even once, so techniques? god i really don’t have any. here’s me talking out my ass tho:
certain characters have certain mannerisms in how they talk: those i can pick up upon bc some characters it’s black and white how they go about talking — floyd ain’t gonna sound all sophisticated u know. however, knowing how to structure what they are conveying, ah that is much harder for me.
sorry for this dead-end answer 💀
11: Are there any tropes you particularly enjoy writing?
rubbing my hands together and grinning like the fucking grinch at this,, let’s fucking goooooo!
1: unreliable narrator my pookie bear <3!!!! a mixture of being a fan of memento (2001) and a haunting of hill house (the BOOK, not the awful movie or show), unreliable narrators are my favorite trope!! whether this narrator is high off a substance, is as clueless as the audience about their situation, OR even so egotistical that their worldview is skewed, I EAT THAT SHIT UP EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL!
2: karmic retribution,, listen i love seeing someone get their just deserts ( ̄个 ̄) there is something so gutturally satisfying about karma
ALSO, i love the indomitable human spirit trope!!!
maybe one day i’ll chat about my more shojo/booktok tropes i enjoy like “just one bed” and “colleagues to lovers” bc hey i know what sells.
33: How do you incorporate world-building elements into your fics?
Disney is such a huge realm to play around it. from the original Grimm fairytales (my beloveds mwah (*≧∀≦*) !!!!) to the movies Disney has made, world-building elements for twst is like a gold mine. it’s perhaps the biggest playing field i’ve ever seen from a fandom.
how i go about incorporating it? well i always go look for faucets of the world everyone else is overlooking: when writing Schism, the ghost camera was untapped potential i had to jump on. i’m working on another oneshot that incorporates Disney’s 1963 The Sword in Stone; there is SO much real estate, you just got to dig around for it a bit.
ACTUALLY,, i have more to say
also about world-building in writing in general, let me siphon off Stephen King again: ok imagine a table covered by a table cloth.
really, imagine a table. secondly, imagine a table cloth.
ok, everyone who reads that imagines something completely different. someone might have imagined a circular table or a rectangular, the table cloth could have reached the ground or could have hovered a inch off the surface, the table cloth, there could’ve been lace on it or it could’ve been this striking red or dull blue.
when world-building, as the writer, you decide what elements you want to bring into the story; the rest? you give that creative liberty and trust to your audience.

I know this probably isn't the point of the blog but I need help and don't know where else to turn.
My sister has autism. And pretty severe autism at that. She basically can't talk, amd doesn't understand most of what you say to her. She's 10. She also has behavioral problems
First some context: She has a habit of breaking or ruining my stuff, especially things like face creams, serums amd things like that. I'll go to use them and she that she's poured them into the sink or slather the rug with them.
Or just this week she broke 2 crochet hooks. And I can't keep replacing all my stuff, and I can't constantly lock all my stuff up, I forget. (i have adhd, staying organized has never been my strong suit). And I know that's it's my fault too, for putting thungs where she has access to them.
And over time I can feel a resentment building up. I know it's not her fault, but I can't help how I fell and it's making me feel horrible about myslef aswell.
I've never had good mental health but this is just really f*cking me up lately.
What can I do?
Your feelings are 100% vaild! its natural to be mad at ANY little sister OFTEN but of coarse this is even more challenging and no you gatta try to not yell or punish her when she messes up, that never helps but going into another room and screaming into a pillow may help.
.
.
and btw if you have "adhd" and your sister is autistic I'd give you by the biological numbers an 80% chance of being autistic yourself just so u know.
.
.
if you can afford it amazon and wayfair.com have some super cheap doesn't look horrible easy to put together "tube" shelves - If you don't think your sister will try to climb them of push them over....you might be able to anchor them to the wall? yup out of reach is I'm afraid the best idea...actually "floating shelves are usually even cheaper and easy to install and less likely for your sister to get into things.
.
.
and hopefully your sister has been on a refined-sugar and gulten free diet? and is she going to occupational therapy? occupational therapy should be coverd by insurance if she has a formal autism dignosis - it's rare but SOME autistic people even severely autistic 10 years old or up can learn to speak in movie quotes or use a board to point to what she wants/ needs on a board....
.
have you also gotten her a swing she can safely use by herself and a big cardboard box she can fit in?
.
I once asked a store that sells refrigeratorsfor such a big box for my birthday and it helps my autism symptoms A LOT! they even gave it to me for free!
Tumblr media
.
you may see a DRAMATIC difference in behavior.
.
.
also, I always try to go "drug free" there IS THC-free cannabis oil you can put on the bottoms of her feet, these are great for seizures an/or autism/ autism meltdowns/ getting them to sleep, you may even get it covered by insurance she may have?
.
.
and does she have a weighted blanket? that can make u HUGE difference as well.
.
.
I hope this helps ask me anything anytime or if you have and specific recommendation like WHICH weighted blankets or WHICH sensory swings I recommend let me know!
.
.
one LAST THING are you doing brushies and squeezies with her daily? they say you have to do it EVERY FOUR HOURS for it to work but I personally do it once or twice a day and I'm good. and they sometimes say "only do it when a trained professional can show u how to do it -which is NONSENSE!
.
I learned it myself , do it to myself bought my own sensory brushes you might wanna try it on yourself too to see if you feel better more calm and focused just do push ups on the wall and 5 jumping jacks to get the compression if you do it to yourslef! <3

First dev blog
Hi! I can't believe this is the first dev blog for yappg (or rather, this iteration of yappg. There are dev blogs for the previous attempts that can be found on youtube or gamejolt).
I wanted to wait until I had an icon, but turns out I found something to talk about.
yappg is made with gamemaker. Partially because it's a nice engine, partially because it's one I am familiar with, but mostly because it's the same project I keep trying to make in that engine for around 5+ years. I really want to do my best to finish it this time, hence the tumblr blog. But how I used my computer was very different 5 years ago. Today, I am on Arch Linux (let's get this out of the way : i use arch btw). Arch is not a supported operating system for the GameMaker engine. I think the issue is pretty easy to figure out.
Up until now, I have been using distrobox to manage a podman container based on Ubuntu 23.10. While solutions like debtap exists in order to convert .deb packages into Arch Linux compatible packages, it doesn't really work with GM. The container approach gives me a near native experience. It's not perfect. Either due to configurations issues or just container issues, the GM debugger doesn't work, the game itself seems to run at a very low fps when ran from inside the container (like, for example, when testing) and any attempt at making an executable fails around 1/8th of the times (but don't quote me on the number tho). Good enough to develop, but there are some time lost dealing with bugs. Plus, I have to run the Beta version of the GameMaker IDE.
But this isn't what made me write this post. Oh no. GameMaker has 2 different ways to create an executable file. You can either use the VM or the YYC. The VM option runs the game in a virtual machine (a bit like Java), while the yyc option compiles the game. This compilation comes with a performance boost, but it takes alot longer to build and features like the debugger are disabled. And as it turns out, something breaks in my container setup when trying to compile an executable using yyc. But at least, that's better than what happens when I try to do a remote build from the container to an ubuntu vm. Because the build doesn't fail... but the engine forgets how the room order works or something.
Tumblr media
This object is in the first room of the game. Every build has that specific object, and the alarm event was left untouched since it's creation. Why is this an issue now???
Honestly, HOW??? And I can confirm that the issue is with the container, because after having installed the beta ide on the same virtual machine and compiling the game there, the room order works again, and the game is compiled without any issues.
The tl;dr here is to not run the GameMaker beta IDE inside of a container, but that's too late for me. Fortunately, I can keep developing for vm until I am close to being done, at which point I can switch to yyc and fix whatever bug might pop up

Random Word Prompts: Luffy & Sanji
(ask meme link)
written as platonic headcanons but prob can be taken as romantic as well.
Tumblr media
Soot: Could they survive on their own if they had to?
↳ Imagining some random "stranded together on a deserted island" scenario...
↳ The answer is yes, but dysfunctionally. Sanji does like 95% of the work. He does the cooking, he sets up the shelter and keeps it tidy, he works on finding a way to get back to the rest of the crew. He's the caretaker in this relationship for sure. He can assign Luffy tasks of course but only within reason. Luffy is also extremely lackadaisical about everything and it stresses Sanji out a little
↳ Btw Luffy's 5% of the work is 1) hunting, and 2) emotional labor. He drives Sanji a little nuts, but also keeps him from getting lonely. Every now and then, he'll say something that Sanji finds incredibly, stupidly sweet. "I couldn't do this without you!" "I'm glad you're the one I got stranded with :D" "We should do this again sometime!! And bring friends!!!"
↳ And Sanji is just very grumpily endeared by it. He's like... you idiot... you little dunderhead... if we bring other people it won't be "doing this again"... also, why would we want to get stranded a second time?!
Tumblr media
Thunder: Do they argue with their S/O each other - if so what about?
↳ They bicker all the time when Luffy is too impatient for food lol. But in a serious way? Hardly ever, and especially not since the Whole Cake Island fiasco.
↳ I think the closest they'd come to arguing is if/when he hears Sanji talking bad about himself. Because Luffy just doesn't get it. Sanji is kind and skilled and strong, so why does he treat himself so harshly?
↳ He'll contradict every point Sanji makes against himself. Sanji thinks it's almost laughable, in a way, how his captain can accept everything about him so easily. It makes him ridiculously happy just as much as it makes him ridiculously frustrated. Because no matter how much he proves himself through loyalty and hard work, deep down Sanji doesn't always feel like he deserves to be accepted like this– so wholly, so genuinely– or to be viewed in such a forgiving light.
↳ I don't think Luffy would get upset in return, unless WCI gets brought up... and specifically if it gets brought up in a way where Sanji hints at any feelings of guilt he carries over it.
↳ Because nope, Luffy is not having any of that. He doesn't hold grudges over WCI, and more importantly than that, he doesn't regret a single thing that happened there. He doesn't regret enduring for Sanji, he doesn't suffering and hurting for Sanji, he doesn't regret risking his life for Sanji, he doesn't regret choosing Sanji and loving him. And for Sanji to ever imply that, however indirectly, would be a deep insult in his mind. Luffy does not and will not ever think that accepting help from a friend is something to feel guilty over.
↳ It’s hard, though, because Sanji can’t forget how far his captain had to push. It might not be something he ever forgets about, but he hopes to everything in him that it's something he's grown from.
Tumblr media
Bell: Song lyrics or a quote associated with them?
世界じゃそれを愛と呼ぶんだぜ (The World Calls That Love) - Sambomaster
What connects our hearts' voices Are the things that we really fear. We say together that we'll sing like the past never happened!
Flowers can bloom even within sadness!
The world calls that "love"!
↳ This is my favorite song by Sambomaster. It's so sweet, and I feel like it really encapsulates Luffy & how he treats his loved ones.
↳ Something really special about Luffy is that he gives people the strength to admit their dreams and all their deepest desires they've held inside because they were afraid of what'd happen if they let it out. And Sanji's "I want to go back to the Sunny" scene is all of that, completely undiluted. That scene is burned into my memory istg
↳ The way Luffy had to fight and claw to get that confession out of him. I'll stop here to avoid getting repetitive with the previous section lol, but the way Luffy accepted it all in stride & treats Sanji no differently for it. Beautiful

Thinking back to what Kripke said in an interview about Soldier Boy's trauma being a metaphor for "toxic masculinity", don't think that he's kinda sending the wrong message with Soldier Boy and Butcher that being traumatized/victims of abuse and engaging in unhealthy coping mechanisms equals "toxic men"? Especially since men don't have monopoly on being abuse and trauma victims? Big fucking Oof there, Kripke.
I'm not sure if the story blames Butcher for being traumatised. Writers clearly are making a point about the cycle of abuse and the consequences of childhood trauma, both for him and Homelander, and usually portray his struggles sympathetically. However, some moments give me a pause, like Mallory saying Billy is just like his father because he wants to finish his vendetta against Homelander (can we talk about Mallory probably being the biggest hypocrite of the show, btw), or the narrative seemingly supporting the idea that Billy was partially responsible for Lenny's death.
Soldier Boy's situation is weirder. If I understand correctly, you mean this quote:
“Similarly to Hughie, it’s, what is the metaphor for Soldier Boy? And he’s like this bottled up toxic masculinity,” Kripke says. “He bottles up all of his pain and he bottles up all of his trauma and then, quote unquote, loses his temper and explodes outward, literally. It’s the pattern of so many macho dudes, they can’t express themselves and so then they explode and in really inappropriate ways. So he literally explodes.” (x)
The interview was referencing the events of 3x05 Holy shit, I was absolutely sure it was about Soldier Boy blowing up the building during his PTSD flashback. But they, in fact, talked about 3x04, aka Soldier Boy blasting Kimiko at the lab. This makes even less sense. He just woke up from stasis after years of torture, surrounded by armed people, with a bunch of dead soldiers on the floor. He doesn't know if they are friendlies (they aren't); he doesn't even target Kimiko specifically — he just tries to escape. Oh my god.
But even if we apply this quote to 3x05 or even the entire season, it still doesn't work. It's the season finale tomorrow, and yet we only saw Soldier Boy "exploding" in two types of situations: he has a flashback during which he blackouts and cannot control himself, or he deliberately uses this new power against his target. Neither fits the idea of a "toxic macho man losing his temper". Unless, of course, Kripke thinks having untreated PTSD is a sign of toxic masculinity.
This brings us to the second option: unhealthy coping mechanisms = toxic masculinity. I think you're spot on about this being the show's idea, tbh. I mean, writers certainly try to make a point by showing us MM, who is Soldier Boy's foil this season and arguably one of the most well-adjusted people on the show (which doesn't say a lot, but still). MM is open about his emotions, takes medication and tries not to let his trauma affect Janine. Here's an example of how to handle your trauma properly, right? Of course! But also, eh.
Sure, Soldier Boy is a vile, abusive man that pretends he doesn't have feelings, and his response to the idea of PTSD is "fuck you". He certainly holds back a lot of his emotions that aren't anger. And his (and Butcher's) idea of self-medicating is clearly unhealthy. But here's a thing: according to the show's timeline, he's been free less than a month, I'd say about two weeks. He barely had any time to deal with everything that happened. He doesn't have friends, his only allies are two shady guys who want to use him as a weapon, and one of them has already tried to back out of the agreement. Who exactly has Soldier Boy to trust with his emotions and ask for support, even if he were self-aware enough to do that? (though he did open up to Hughie for a moment in E6.) And it's not like Billy and Hughie can take him to the therapist for help. And of course, we still circle back to the showrunner comparing PTSD episodes to losing your temper.
And Billy doesn't really fit into this idea either because he supposedly spent a year of hiatus trying to get better and be a father for Ryan — only to be told in the end that he still failed. For me, his arc this season is about desperation, not toxicity.
Oof indeed.

mi dispiace, i have lots of question 🤧
3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25, and 30 pleasseeee
Don't worry about it, I'm happy you asked ;)
3. I'm Italian
5. It's a little bit complicated, actually. Let's say I opened this account when I was 15 and it was one of the first time I went through some difficult things on my own, couldn't really talk about them with anyone since it was a lot and didn't want to burden them, so I opened this blog, with the idea of finally writing about it.
The name just came to me as I was thinking about something that gave me comfort, and I thought that if I could go to the moon and be away from everything, even for just one day, everything would be okay.
Basically, the moon is my clouds, I know it'll make sense to you.
6. Does overthinking count?😂
7. Yeah, I can play the piano and the guitar, and also started learning how to play the ukulele and the drums on my own, but very basic stuff on those ones😂
8. if by hobbies you mean stuff I really like doing, even when I'm clearly not good at it, a lot😂🙌🏼
Going to the gym is probably one of the most important rn, as well as soccer, but also going on walks is something I really enjoy.
Then there's art, music, cinema, and whatever makes me feel like I can express or understand myself a little bit better.
Also writing is pretty important to me, but it's more of a need than a hobby I guess.
9. I speak Italian, English, French and Spanish rn, but just because I attended a linguistic highschool😂🙌🏼
However, I'm currently working on Portuguese, cause I absolutely love it!
I'm also curious about every other language there is, even though I don't think I'll ever be able to learn all the ones I like😂
11. ahhh, hard question this one...
I have some but I'll try to stick to three.
Portrait of a lady on fire
La pazza gioia
Lazzaro Felice
(I'm suing you for this question, there's a whole list of movies currently angry at me :/ )
12. I'll be as cliche as possible with this one so...
The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo
16. Iceland and Canada.
18. you're really giving me a hard time here, hope you appreciate the effort though :)
I've been questioning myself about it for the last year and still I don't have an answer, but what I know for sure, after this year, is that doing something that only revolves "around me" is something I can't bring myself to bear.
I want to do a job where I can give effective help to people, not only with words or thoughts, I don't know if that makes sense.
What I'd really like to be able to do is work with disabled adults who are often left alone in communities or with children, who mainly are in the same situation.
Doesn't matter what I do for them or with them, I just want to give them a chance to tell their stories to someone.
19. One of my dream is to be able to go on a roadtrip, like a coast to coast or something like that, just driving across endlessly changing landscapes.
I know it's not very environment friendly, so I'll have to work on that aspect, but I've always loved the concept.
21. I don't really have any specific preference, not about physical aspects at least.
The traits in someone's personality that attract me the most are probably kindness and self confidence (don't ask me why, but to me, they're one of the sexiest thing to exist🙌🏼).
But it's not only that, as what I think is the most important thing is feeling some sort of connection.
22. Disloyal people and meanness
25. I don't really know if by games you meant physical ones or like board games (?), Btw almost everything that can make me have a nice fun time.
30. Apart from the comments people make and that I overthink about? 😂
No, I'm kidding, I don't really have specific quotes I think about, they're usually from lyrics or films and they depend on the time, but my mantra these last years has usually been "it is what it is".
I told you, I'm not original :(
Btw, I'm sorry for these answers, I might have overdone it and I'm really sorry about it, I swear :)
Anyway, if there's something else you want to ask me, you know you're always welcomed ;)
