Ekko and Mel are really stuck between a rock in a hard place when it comes to how they're perceived by the fandom.

The grievances that black Arcane Fans have with how Ekko and Mel are and were treated by the fandom will either never fully be understood or outright ignored by non black sections of the fandom. I think a reason for this is because Arcane as a setting is very much a broad look at class disparities, it's something everybody regardless of race or ethnicity can relate too and that's great in its own right because it does allow for more general discussions about the show but I think that because it's so broad that when POC fans start to point out things they may not like or problems they have with this depiction they often get ignored because of the general setting.

Ekko and Mel already have a hurdle to cross just by being black characters in general but I think because of the setting and because of their roles within the story that this is sorta amplified. Bad faith interpretations, cruel headcannons, like the fact that people unironically think that Ekko is "getting in the way" of Zaun's independence I think shows how far the plot has been lost (this is prevalent on reddit mostly tbf).

Ekko and Mel also committed the cardinal sin when it comes to being a black character which is getting in the way of a ship between two white characters. Mel is just either outright ignored or demonized to the fullest degree. I mean the way she talked about you would think she is the main villain of the show. Ekko on the other hand while not forgotten is still met with a level of disdain and look I get it, if you had a ship you really liked and another ship comes along and not only starts to get popular but also have the slim chance of becoming canon I get how you can get defensive over your personal ship but commenting on Timebomb ship art and post with counter ships or how it "will never happen" is just rude and uncalled for and it's not even like Timebomb is a new thing, it's been a thing since Ekko's release and maybe it's just me but the fact that Jinx has like five other ships but the one where she happens to be shipped with a black character is also the one that seems to get the brunt of the ire does make me side eye a bit.

Overall this was just a little rant I had in my head for a while now and I know at the end of the day all of this probably isn't as serious as I'm making it out to be but look I just really like Ekko and Mel okay😭

it was more so implied than stated or announced by anyone. the most latest short was written by florence chapell, who is known for liking and interacting with ship artwork or posts of sixnine. mind you this was BEFORE this short released. she most likely wrote the characters interactions with romantic intentions in mind. so no, no one ever stated it was officially canon, but reading their scenes with this context its very clear there are romantic implications

nah. they're really touchy amicas, tho. probably because im always touchy with my friends and it just kinda rubs off on my art. ravage is my Me character so i do end up giving him traits i have. one of those is being touchy with people he cares about 🤷‍♂️. he's especially touchy with drift as when they were grouped together in the dead end (which is where they met in my brain), ravage spent a lot of hours curled up in drift's car alt with laserbeak and buzzsaw for shelter. that touchy aspect never really left their dynamic.

drift/deadlock's candle has always been lit for someone else.

I want to buy a sticker from your shop, but shipping (to Canada) is down as $22 before tax. May I ask why it costs so much to ship a single sticker? Is it Etsy being weird, or does it really cost that much to send an envelope over the border?

I'm not trying to be snarky or passive aggressive or anything, I'm genuinely just kind of befuddled atm.

A fair question honestly! USPS sets the rates for international shipping, and shipping to canada really is about that expensive 😭 I considered sending stickers via envelopes, but 1. if I send them with a stamp (less than $2) they don't have tracking, and etsy Does Not Like That. I gotta send packages with shipping to qualify for star seller, plus it covers your ass in case USPS loses it. and 2. apparently it's illegal to send merchandise internationally in envelopes!! so sadly we're all stuck dealing with the super crazy international rates. I don't like it either because as someone who deals in trinkets, people generally do not want to pay $16 for a charm that costs $12, and they especially don't want to pay that for a sticker that costs $4... I would ABSOLUTELY have way more international sales if USPS wasn't fucking us with the prices but it's out of my control dssdjkfjksdf

I give this advice a lot, but if you don't want to pay international shipping (or just live in a country I don't ship to myself), you can borrow the address of a friend that lives in the states and they can forward it to you! I don't actually know if this is cheaper, but some people have said it is. it's def cheaper for stickers though if your friend uses a stamp!

I just don't like the ship, and none of my art shows them being romantic, so if people read that as ship it would be first of all really annoying, and second of all, imagining things that arent there and that I didn't mean to put in the artwork xd this isn't what my art of them is about is it. It's also a very popular ship so there's a higher possibility people aren't going to be normal about these two in together in the shot. I usually don't need to worry about people tagging other ships because barely anyone does that anyway xd

reading other short stories and novels and essays and interviews from sapkowski is so satisfying because not only are these fun to read in of themselves but when my mind returns to the witcher i am like

NOT just the love as illness BUT #iseult of the white hands telling tristan that iseult of the golden hair was indeed on the ship in this retelling by sapkowski when #in the general way it goes (as what i gleaned from wikipedia) she lied in jealousy and told him the sails were black #maladie joins the group of 'i thought this would be really difficult to understand without the background knowledge...'#'... but it only took two to three wikipedia pages to make sure i understood what's going on'#and again no i probably didn't catch every reference or even understand perfectly. it's a first read after all #but did i have fun? was i emotionally moved? YES!#after reading tandaradei! i am like 90% more understanding of what he meant by the whole 'eyes of ugly girls' thing from the last wish #me beginning the story and it's going on about how she's not pretty: 'jeez i dont see how that's really relevant man'#me ending the story and it ends like *that*: 'I SEE.... hey uh sorry for disappearing yet again for a couple months. don't have much of an excuse, though things have been more stressful than usual, offline life having involved family and hospitals and stuff, but not gonna go into any details, things are better now either way so ye. my way of coping with things have been mostly to just play games (ffxiv mainly, leveling alts and other grinding can be a good distraction sometimes) and nothing else to keep my mind off things, so haven't been able to focus enough to do much of any art at all. I am hoping to get back into the swing of things, I am back on my meds that I skipped out on for like a year due to various reasons, but they seem to be helping again so yeah, fingers crossed that things will work out and such ha

I think you're wrong, for the most part. It's not really realistic, but it's a possibility.

See it's a little difficult to claim really how bad any of them could potentially be when it heavily varies? Not because it's 'complex' but because sometimes the characters just do things for the sake of humor or the plot. For example, Suneo having a rabid dog attack Nobita one episode vs episodes where he worries for his safety over minor health hazards. So I kind of judge on the behavior on average, or just go more with the movies because I enjoy those more. Besides, this series is old. Things can tend to get a little homophobic, though I can't recall anything from this series outside of like.... just very eye roll worthy gags like 'isn't it funny how two boys kissed, laugh now!' I wouldn't take that so seriously.

But even when you take the movies, and even series, into account I'm pretty heavily doubtful he'd have such an attitude. He tends to be a lot more in tune with his emotions than expected, and also you look at this and tell me 'oh yea he'd be a bigot':

It's all about how you interpret them, how you can pick and choose canon. As an example, I'm not going to call Nobita a weirdo pervert 'realistically' just because some things had him being a creep to Shizuka, because that in general isn't fun to consider or sit through.
