one of the reasons i hate the sequels, regardless of quality, is the fact that they undermine the original trilogy. i don't think they're very well written, and frankly i like the prequels than the ot anyway, but the main issue is that this is a franchise, and the sequels have neatly undermined everything about that franchise.
some of the other newer content does this for me as well - again, it's not an issue of quality, i don't care how good the new tv shows and books or whatever actually are, but they take away from the basis of star wars! the point, tragic though it was, was that no one from the original jedi order survived, and luke's new jedi order was an entirely fresh start. the sequels are terrible because they make it look like luke failed badly (bad move to undermine the main character of the beginning of all of star wars?? but ok??), and actually someone else has to come along and do his own journey for him (again, moronic thing to do to your original protagonist).
and in terms of other new content - i love lots of new characters, like ahsoka, but at this point it's getting insane. yoda's baby frog cousin survived order 66. this random ginger survived order 66. another padawan survived it. actually whole hosts of padawans survived it. the villain in ahsoka's show was some random guy who survived it. the fucking LIBRARIAN survived order 66, even if she did die a year later. order 66 was the most pathetic failure of a mass murder in the history of fictional mass murders, and while that is kind of funny, it does also make the whole point of star wars stupid. it's a big tragedy that luke is the only jedi left, and while he can start a new order, there's no way to get back thousands of years of living history - except that actually darth vader, one of the most feared villains in fictional history, was pretty incompetent, as was palpatine, the master of the downfall of a thousand year old republic. everyone has survived. luke is whining about nothing. why did he face palpatine alone when he could have called on hordes of force sensitives with as much/more training than him. you're building your wall with material from the ground below it?? has anyone at disney actually watched star wars
and ok, the tv shows are sometimes kind of counter-productive, but not everyone's going to watch those, they're not such a big deal. but to undermine the original trilogy in another trilogy?? to make the original heroes look bad and incompetent in the main films? what's the point of adding to a franchise if you're going to make the basis of the franchise look bad

I saw you talking about Nalini Singh, and I love her series, specifically the Guild Hunter Series. What are your thoughts on it? Likes, dislikes,
I love the diversity and how the bad guys are still complex characters while the good guys are the same. Also the settings seem realistic and well detailed
The only part of the story that didn’t make sense to me was the introduction of Elena’s grandparents. I didn’t really see the point of them, that a history/DNA test wouldn’t have also accomplished.
What do you think? 🥰🥰
Hi! 🌷
Disclaimer: Its been a looong while since I read the Guild Hunter Series so I'm rusty on the details. I was also a much less critical reader and I took long breaks between books since I was reading it really casually.
But
I really loved the diversity. Not just lazily including vague poc rep but fully fleshed out characters as leads and romantic interests
Also the lore around vampires being the result of the angels turning humans. I enjoyed the action in the series, chemistry between characters and the consequences around power too.
Lijuan was probably my fav villain and Neha's Court in India was maybe my fav location (also probably because I liked switching pov to Mahiya and Jason) but Caliane(?) emerging or awakening and wrecking everything was a really intriguing plot for me
I don't remember much about Elena's grandparents, except that her grandma was Moroccan? And 1 or both were also Hunters like her? I think?? Lol. I might have to reread because I remember wanting to get more into her family after her (step?) sister went missing in one of the books but unfortunately I don't remember what that led to
My dislikes are maybe seeing too much of Elena and Raphael? And maybe not having their romance (especially since Raphael was in that 'cold' state the power forced him into for a lot of it) and Elena's time as a human a bit more drawn out? It's not like she was too weak to be relevant, we could have really explored what being a Hunter is and connected with the guild characters more before they became relevant in later books.
I also skipped Dmitri's book because I wasn't feeling the specifics of the 'reincarnation but not really' situation with Honour.
All in all, Nalini Singh is really up there when it comes to romantic fantasy as someone who nitpicks a lot lol. In particular the world building of her Psy-Changeling series is one of my fave urban fantasy lores ever.

🔥 about a fandom of your choice 👀
Send me a “ 🔥 “ for an unpopular opinion. Buffyverse: I'm not really much of a Cordy fan - I don't hate her, she definitely has her moments, but she doesn't really... add much for me as a main character. Thanks for the ask! :)

In a world in which the WOT TV series caters to my specific tastes in how it alters the books the Seanchan and the Sharans roles in the series would be reversed.
Idk mr author, "the society that renounced their institutional, brutal slavery (and bonked a Forsaken on the head till he nearly saw sense) allied itself with the heroes despite their massive differences" sounds more appealing to me than "that society who ditched slavery? It served the fantasy devil till the end. Now the unrepentant, horrifying-to-the-point-of-nearly-ridiculous-evil slave-owning society? Now *that's* the heroes unlikely ally! Do they fully reform at the end of the series? Of course not, dont be ridiculous now!"
Alas, we dont live in that world.

(click for higher quality!) draconified link concept ive been chipping away at this past week ..... here's my funny little compendium concept for him:
"A heroic spirit has taken the form of this bestial dragon. Unlike it's kin, this creature exhibits an extremely aggressive disposition. It appears highly territorial, and will relentlessly chase down those who disturb its skywide patrols - of which it seems to be endlessly searching for either a long-time vassal or foe. Unfortunately, it seems the spirit within has long since forgotten exactly who it was looking for…"

I SWEAR I’M NOT DEAD
apology cat: Tzumba, the local “stray”
he’s an old boi who’s very chatty and lives about a block away
stray in quotations because he technically has owners but I don’t think they let him inside so he just kinda wanders around (hence his title)
Almost always at my doorstep because my family feeds him better than his own family does
very soft, likes headpats

JOHN: he doesn't have a dog? DAVEPETA: B33 < maybe hes talking about karcat
and then they all watched the mlp:fim movie and proceeded to get into a heated argument over character analysis afterward. john interrupts them all by going "well i like pinkie pie! she's silly." and they all just stop arguing and are like yeah. yeah pinkie pie is silly.
