there is no universe in which i see them even remotely tolerating the other 😭 their worldviews are too fundamentally opposed. i like thinking about them as foils & i enjoy the person barty becomes through james's eyes (impossible to understand, indefensible).

to me they both have knight complexes, but in opposite directions... james is devoted to The Best Version of his partner because he generally sees people for their potential. but his blind commitment to believing the people he loves are Fundamentally Good & expecting them to be that way can become pretty delusional and suffocating (<- arthur coded). meanwhile barty is willing to give everything up for an ounce of boypussy and actively wants to wallow with you in the muck (<- lancelot vibes) and that coding is why barty would ruin his entire life lmfao
