Between @scipiosmith's Yang ask and a post I saw a few days ago, it's got me thinking. The post in question brought up how Yang doesn't really fit in with the rest of Team RWBY: Ruby is a fated anti-Grimm warrior whose kind have been hunted nearly to extinction, Weiss is the heiress to the largest company in the world who wants to change her family's reputation and undo the damage her father has done, Blake is the former 'terrorist' princess of the faunus who's been fighting for their rights since she was a child (largely against said company), but Yang is just… Yang. She's just Ruby's sister, who's trying to find her mother. Everyone else has something big and important going on, but the closest Yang has to that is that her mother is a bandit queen… except Raven doesn't care about her so that doesn't mean anything.
Contrast this with JNPR. Jaune is a cheat who doesn't even know what aura is, Nora and Ren are orphans from a small town… but Pyrrha is an international celebrity, a 4-time tournament winner who has never lost a fight, with a major sponsorship deal, someone who Weiss – who's part of the very highest level of society from another country — knows all about, and who latches onto anyone who doesn't immediately recognise her name and face.
I think you know where I'm going with this. What if we swapped the odd ones out? What if, rather than teams RWBY and JNPR, we had teams RNBW and JRNY? How would it change things?
Well, here's a few ways it might.
Schneekos (hey, I'm still me lol). Alternatively, Pyrruby and Monochrome would work really well in this.
Ozpin selects Yang to be the new Fall Maiden. She lacks direction but she's got a good heart, and she's strong; this will give her purpose. Moreover, a Maiden will need to hide away, and where better to hide than with Tai, his old agent? No one will give a second thought to Yang returning home, and should she need to be anywhere, a trip with her uncle would hardly be strange.
Yang isn't totally sure how she feels about this, mostly because of the risk of losing herself. Trying not to let anything on, she talks to Ruby. Who else? These are the stories she use to read to her! But she's not such a cool big sister anymore; Ruby is stretching her wings, she has her own friends… she doesn't need Yang the same way now. But if Yang can be one of the figures from the stories, she'll always be the cool big sister, right? Ruby is super excited of course, given that her idea of hunters and heroes is still straight out of those stories, and she inadvertently encourages Yang to accept.
Hot-tempered as ever, when the Beacon attack happens and Cinder kills Amber, Yang is right on her heels. Unlike Pyrrha, she's at close to full aura, but also unlike Pyrrha, she depends on getting hit as part of her fighting style. Things end more or less the same, only this time Ruby is arriving just in time to see her sister die.
Ruby is the one to get the major grief arc in Mistral (but we don't leave out the others, because it would be ridiculous for them not to grieve their lost friend). She doesn't have just one training video, she has lots of pictures and videos from over the years, and the others will frequently catch her looking at them and crying as they're travelling. She takes to wearing Yang's gauntlets (if Cinder melted them, perhaps an older pair that no longer fit Yang but would fit Ruby) and, slowly but surely over the course of several seasons, learns to fight with them like Yang did — never as well necessarily since they aren't her primary weapon, but with the same style.
Pyrrha is faced with many of her fans suddenly turning on her, believing she murdered Penny and caused Beacon's downfall. Her mother is furious with her for 'throwing away the life they'd worked so hard to build'. She has to come to terms with herself beyond her persona and reputation, and ultimately decide to truly take control of her own destiny.
At some point after reuniting, Ruby snaps at Pyrrha (probably when the latter is trying to comfort her or something), not just because of Penny but Yang too. Why was Yang the one that had to do all that? Pyrrha's the champion, she should've been the one to do it! Fighting people is what she does!!
Ruby is the one who's especially angry that Ozpin kept his secrets from them, because her sister died for it. Qrow's anger also fits in better since Yang was his niece.
Weiss takes Yang's place in the Adam fight. She has to confront firsthand what the SDC does, driving her (more) to do something about it when the group returns to Atlas.
Given Ruby's ire toward Ozpin, she doesn't keep his secrets from Ironwood, who is now able to immediately begin altering his plans to account for new information.
With Weiss fired up from what she saw in Adam, she takes a much larger and more active role in opposing her father, publicly denouncing the SDC's practices and revealing what she's seen. Although she has no proof and thus can't bring criminal charges against him, her efforts draw the attention of the Happy Huntresses, the workers of Mantle, and Dr. Watts. The former groups quickly become allies, while Watts begins targeting her, thus leading the team into their initial villain for the arc.
I could keep going, but I'm drifting far enough out that it's less changes and more a totally different story from there. Which could of course happen earlier too! Or less could change, or different things!
What I find really interesting, however, is that by making that one little change — by switching Yang and Pyrrha's positions but still having Ozpin pick 'the B team ace' — so many things suddenly fall into place so well. So many things that were, to a greater or lesser degree, askew, no longer are. Everything just smoothes out so much and makes more sense, and the only thing so far that doesn't click into place is bb (which imo needs a lot of work anyway, so yeah).

Project: crochet bralette
Introduction:
If you're a regular here, you might remember me asking for beginner's crochet resources. You've all been amazingly helpful!
After finishing my first plushie last month, I decided to try my hands at something wearable: a crochet bralette.
The project:
I used the basic bikini cup pattern on Ravelry by Regina Weiss to make the cups for my bra. If you're not a Ravelry fan, you can also find this free pattern on the Morale Fiber blog. My yarn is a basic cotton fingering weight yarn.
I still struggle with remembering the names of stitches, so I accidentally used double crochets while following the pattern's instructions for a half double crochet cup. It still worked out though!
Once I finished my cups, I attached them with a row of single crochets along the bottom, then made the band wider and added a row of decorative eyelets in the middle. I then picked up stitches along the sides of the cup and added bands for the back, using double crochets to make them match my cups.
This type of bra often comes with lacing in the back but I opted for buttons instead, using a Dummies tutorial on how to make button loops. Finally, I added a simple shell edging to finish off the bottom of my bralette.
Next, I added chains to the tops of my cups to serve as shoulder bands. I then added a border of single crochets and small eyelets along the cups and chains to widen the straps and create a decorative border. Once I was done, I sewed the ends of my straps onto my bands.
When I tried the bralette on, I realised the space between my cups gaped a little. I improvised a small connection between them to tighten them up.

I didn't take progress photos because to be honest I didn't expect this project to work out as well as it did.
Conclusion:
The result is a white cotton bralette that fits pretty well. It doesn't offer much support, but it's more of a fashion piece than a functional bra anyway so that's fine by me.
If I were to add a longer bottom band and maybe used a different stitch to minimise space in between stitches, this pattern would probably make for a decent tank top too.
I'm really happy with how my first wearable crochet item turned out! Not sure how it'll hold up after a few washes, but we'll see. Either way, I had fun and learned several new techniques so I'd call this a win.
A note on the pattern:
The pattern contains instructions on how to customise the cups to your own size and shape. In theory you could make them as big or as small as you want, but in reality I have no idea how well this would work for sizes larger than my own as I'm still very new to the craft.
If you'd like to see patterns specifically aimed at larger sizes, check out Jam Gabriel and Crafty Madness.
Morale Fiber also has a free bralette pattern based on triangles rather than the classic crochet cup, which comes with a curvy version too.

RWBY/Justice League Movie Review
I went into it with extremely low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. It's not amazing, but I really enjoyed it for what it was. I would 100% immediately buy a Part 2 if it was made, and would recommend this to anyone who loves RWBY and wants more after the V9 finale, or a JL fan who wants to get into RWBY.
Without spoilers... they leave the door open enough to this that the movie could actually be canon in the RWBY universe! (No idea if the same can be said for JL.) It also has lots of cute moments for the bees, as well as some hard hitting emotional moments with some of our favorite characters.
It's geared towards RWBY viewers. I watched it with someone who knew Justice League, and while I could pick up on the JL elements easily, they struggled with the RWBY stuff. The JL characters felt like they belonged in the RWBY universe.
Spoiler-review below!
So the last scene confirms this movie is taking place during V7 (between when they get their new outfits V7C3 and the election V7C6). I could totally see Watts being the one behind it, teaming up with Killgore to trap RWBY and co.
Just one of the many things that Watts did to try and destroy Atlas.
Okay but like, those Jaune and Pyrrha scenes were just mean!! Jaune knowing the entire time that Pyrrha isn't real, yet still desperately clinging onto the hope that there's a way back to her.
When Jaune is in the white room with Jessica, he realizes this is all fake, which leads him to think that maybe his memories, of Beacon falling, of Pyrrha's death, are all fake too. So... he literally throws himself to the grimm in hopes that it kills him and he wakes up in a reality where Pyrrha is alive.
Just... wow. A really great way to show his trauma.
I'm of the opinion that we'll never actually see Pyrrha, the real Pyrrha, ever again in RWBY. It's the most permanent loss that the show has ever had, and will always have. In a way, I'm glad the movie respected that? Overall, the movie definitely felt in the spirit of RWBY.
Another reason I think it could be canon is because its themes of leadership, of not being enough, really fit in with what was going on in the show at the time.
I really liked Jaune and Jessica together. Jaune is at his best self when he's supporting someone else, helping them realize their true potential. 10/10 use of him.
Jessica was also ADORABLE, from her design, to her personality, to her arc during the movie. Definitely my favorite of the JL characters. They'd make good friends.
Superman was good, and he and Ruby played well off each other as leaders of their respective worlds. No further comments.
Batman was awesome. Loved his wings. Loved his character arc. Him and Weiss together were pretty great, runner up duo after Jaune and Jessica.
Cyborg/Nora/Ren was... alright? Found it funny that Nora basically decided not to pay attention to either of them.
Flash and Vixen were both there too. My JL co-watcher pointed out halfway, rather annoyed, that the Flash should be faster than that. Turns out, he called the villian twist early!
Like I said before, if you like RWBY as much as I do, where you hang on every little piece of content we get, you'll enjoy this. As far as the extended universe goes, I'd rank this above Arrowfell (game was fun, but the story was a mess, sorry Arrowfell!), but below Roman Holiday.

SoC Behind the Scenes
Bit of preamble here, TLDR, look below the break for to see my original notes from before I started writing SoC.
At some point in the next 3-5 days I will post the final chapter of Spirt of Competition. This is the second time I've actually finished a multi-part story (arguably third if you count the FFM I did right before SoC, which'll be transplated to Ao3 starting next weekend). Last time was back in 2009, and it sucked so bad that I went back a year later and rewrote the ending. But after I posted the last chapter of that story, I thought it'd be fun to also post a picture of the original, written-by-hand-when-I-should've-been-taking-notes-for-my-Sociology-class, first draft of that final chapter.
I don't really do actual writing with pen&paper anymore, but most of my conceptual-level notes are still done hardcopy, and I thought it'd be fun to do that again. So click to see my original, hand-written notes, made between frames while playing in my dad's bowling league, back in late August/early October of 2022.
Tumblr media
As you can see, basically my whole concern at that point was figuring out who was going to play who. I was just following the story from New Challengers beat for beat (at that point, anyway), so that kind of makes sense. But there's some interesting stuff too. Like Sienna was the running at one point to be the big bad. Or that I couldn't remember the name of P2W's token female player in Arcade Spirits. Something I think I've mentioned in comment replies is I kept going back and forth swapping Ruby & Weiss' placement. Because Weiss' family is rich and affluent like Grace's, but Ruby is a maker/engineer (my favorite characterization for her) so it makes sense for her to have made the AI and be an aspiring gameDev. And they both have reasons to have a chip on their shoulder, which would relate to the protagonist's competitive streak. But something I don't think anyone knows about is that while Cinder does line up with Domino's nihilism quite well, the actual reason she's in that spot, and therefore what ultimately made the story Frosen Steel instead of Burning Whiterose (I love FS, but Cinder honestly would've been a better fit for Jynx than Penny was. But I STILL STAND BY SASSY GOTH AESTHETIC PENNY), is that Rhodes felt like an easy answer to 'who do I use for this detective character that's related to Domino in AS?' and if you read SoC you may have noticed that Rhodes is conspicuously absent, because that character tied into what was going on with Mercury, which got cut mostly for pacing and also because at the time it would've been included I very much needed to not be writing the type of content that came up next in his sideplot. Oh, and the Seamonkies swapped back and forth on Ben and Matt not because they fit opposite characters better, but because I am MASSIVE fans of the Very Kind and Very Funny Graham Stark and Jacob Burgess, who voice Ben & Matt, and I thought Sun and Nep needed to swap to better fit their personalities.
So yeah, hope that was interesting for you. Or at least neat. See you for the grand finale later this week!
(Oh, also I really liked doing this, so I'll probably do it for future stories/fics as well. I even included the date at the top of the notes for that "If hell is forever then heaven must be a lie" DWR idea from a few nights ago in anticipation of one day sharing them)-

Imagine if Blake and Yang killed Adam at the Battle of Haven in V5? Adam is accompanied by an upgraded Banesaw and the fight doesn't turn until Sun joins the fray. Adam dies but not before mortally wounding Sun, partially fulfilling his vow to destroy someone Blake loves. There is no SDC scar reveal. Sun dies in Blake's arms and is mourned. Neptune arrives to collect his body for burial in Vacuo. Adam meets a fitting end unlike his silly death in V6. Without Sun, bumbleby happens more naturally.
Not a huge fan of this scenario, if I’m being honest. Though I like the finale of Adam and Blake’s arc coming in V5 instead of randomly in V6, and I also like a bigger fight and the return of the LT…why’s Sun gotta die? We’re just culling the male Faunus, and for what? How does bees happen “more naturally” because Sun is dead?
Do you think you can only start a new relationship when your famously amicable not-even-ex-because-nothing-was-formalized has absconded from this moral coil??
I mean, if you’re gonna change things this much, why not have a better handled scar reveal? Why not have Adam meet Weiss? Idk dude, the priorities just seem off.

Does Pyrrha still have trouble fitting in, even in this Au I'd imagine she'd be rather popular considering she's an ex-champion. Has anyone tried to approach her for the sake of just using her fame?
Pyrrha sighed as she approached the Beacon League doors. Even before opening the doors, she could hear people whisper, or even speak aloud on the subject. There wasn't a single person she's met that hasn't heard of Pyrrha Nikos, Mistral's most recent Champion.
The last two years were both mentally and emotionally exhausting for Pyrrha. First, she had to sign a contract with a brand of sneakers she wore only for the commercial, then she signed a lifetime deal with a brand of cereal she could barely stomach on camera, and she was hounded by the paparazzi day and night for even the slightest mistake. She still remembers littergate too well in her nightmares.
But this was a brand new start, and that meant by putting your best foot forward-
"YEOW!"
Pyrrha panicked and shut the door, helping the young man to a seat nearby. He flexed his ankle, wincing with each movement. He had a mop of shaggy blond hair and blue eyes hidden behind squeezed eyelids. After a few moments, he spoke.
"Sorry, miss, I didn't mean to get in your way."
"No, no, it was entirely my fault!" Pyrrha argued. "I should have watched where I was going. I shouldn't have just barged in like that. I should have just walked to the trash can!"
"Whoa! Whoa! Easy!" He said. "Listen, I don't know who you are, but sounds like you're taking this way more personal than you should. Here, let me start over." He took a deep breath, looking her directly in her eyes. "The name's Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, and rolls off the tongue. The ladies love it." She giggled and he smiled. "Wow, I think that's the first time I ever made a girl laugh at the joke, and not me."
"Well, it was a funny joke." She sighed. "So you don't know who I am?"
"No, should I?"
Before she could say anything, a young woman stood over them, covering her mouth. When Pyrrha looked, she gasped at her. She then fanned herself so hard, her white hair fluttered a bit.
"You're Pyrrha Nikos!" She practically shrieked.
"Er, yes, I am." Pyrrha instantly felt uncomfortable. It was bound to happen, but that didn't make it any less awkwafd for her. "And you are?"
"Weiss Schnee," she curtsied, which Pyrrha found odd before remembering being screamed at for not doing so in Atlas, "and this is Myrtenaster." A Froslass danced out from behind her.
"Oh, you know her already?" Jaune asked. He then gasped. "Wait a minute!"
Pyrrha winced. She was hoping this to be the one person in all of Remnant to not know who she was. But I guess there wasn't any hope for her.
"You have a Ghost-type, too!" Pyrrha did a double-take at him. That's what excited him? "Hey, can you help me out? Mine hasn't listened to a word I said since I got him." He looked past Pyrrha. "Right, Crocea Mors?"
Pyrrha turned and saw an Aegislash glaring past her. He looked powerful, with notches showing that he had served in many battles, against Pokémon and hopefully just the Grimm, too. His shield was scuffed and unpolished.
"You need to polish him more." Pyrrha said. "Aegislash are Ghost-Steel-types. This means they need to be polished once a week, or every three battles."
"Really?" Jaune replied. "How do you know all this?"
"She's Pyrrha Nikos!" The girl screeched. "Don't you know who she is?!" Jaune tilted his head to the side. "The Spartan of Steel?! The Champion of Mistral?!" He furrowed his brow.
Pyrrha pulled out her scroll and showed her ad for that disgusting cereal. He gasped as he recognized her instantly.
"Oh, you were on the cereal box!" He then pursed his lips. "Then you stopped. I guess the contract ran out, right?"
"Yes, yes, it did." She smiled.
"Well, Pyrrha, I gotta go get registered." He said, standing up.
"I'll come with you." She replied, standing with him. "I'm registering here as well."
"Oh, cool!" They walked away, leaving the Atlas girl behind. "So, should it be special kind of polish, or will any brand do?"

2022 Webcomic Roundup: Disability Pride Month Edition!
Tumblr media
Graphic created with Canva
It’s the middle of Disability Pride Month, but that doesn't mean there should stop the focus on characters with disabilities. The eight webcomics featured in this month’s roundup celebrate various relationships, and stories, of characters with physical and mental disabilities. Webcomics featured are mainly from WebToon* and elsewhere.
Reprinted from The Geekiary, my History Hermann WordPress blog on Jan. 17, 2023, and Ghostarchive. This was the forty-sixth article I wrote for The Geekiary. This post was originally published on July 19, 2022.
In June, I reviewed animated characters with trauma and previously examined socially awkward characters in anime. This post is an extension of those articles but only focuses on webcomics. You may remember that I reviewed 16 webcomics for the "Wednesday Webcomics" segment from October 2021 to February of this year.
This month I'm covering for Brahidaliz Martinez who has artfully written prior webcomic roundups. So, without further ado, let me begin with these comics which fit with Disability Pride Month.
RWBY Quest
Tumblr media
Screenshot from issue 10 of RWBY Quest, with Yang shown at the bottom of this image
This interactive fan comic ran from February 2014 to May 2015, for a total of 1000 images. Based on the RoosterTeeth series, RWBY, it was a hit in the fandom at the time. The comic, which is for mature audiences and themes, features the show's characters like Ruby Rose, Lie Ren, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long. The latter has a prosthetic arm.
This is also shown in the animated series which features Neopolitan, a mute antagonist, and Professor Ozpin, who often uses a cane. These characters, and others appeared in the anime spin-off, RWBY: Ice Queendom, which began airing earlier this month.
Assigned Male
Tumblr media
Stephie reveals she is autistic in an April 2018 issue of Assigned Male
This webcomic, by Sophie Labelle, a trans woman and cartoonist, features Stephanie "Stephie" Bondu. She is an 11-year-old trans girl, with the comic showing her exploration of this identity. She is autistic and later comes out as bisexual. This webcomic was originally posted on Tumblr, then re-posted under a new title, Serious Trans Vibes, by Labelle on Line Webtoon.
Nimona
Tumblr media
Screencap of the first page of Nimona.
Originally a webcomic, and later printed as a graphic novel, this fantasy webcomic is by ND Stevenson, who recently came out as Nate. He is known for his role as showrunner of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. This webcomic follows the story of a shapeshifter named Nimona who joins Ballister Blackheart, with both working to destroy an over-controlling institution. Ballister has a prosthetic hand throughout the comic, which mixed technology and magic. The comic was recently adapted as an animated film that will premiere next year on Netflix.
Adventure Time: Princess Robot
Tumblr media
Finn shown with a flower growing out of his arm in issue 10.
While there are various Adventure Time fan comics online like ones on Simon Abadeer, one sticks out: Adventure Time: Princess Robot. By Hierogriff and posted on Line Webtoon in 2017, it follows the story of Marceline the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum as they go to a kingdom run by a robot despot. At the end of the comic, Finn is shown without an arm and a flower growing out of it.
This is consistent with the series which showed him with a grass sword growing out of his arm, then a robotic prosthetic arm later in the series. It is similar to the fan comics for series like Final Space, which show Gary with a prosthetic arm like in the series.
AspiGurl
Tumblr media
A comic by AspiGurl about the life as an autistic girl
In searching for comics to add to this post, I came across an article about an autistic artist named AspiGurl illustrating her daily reality in 50 comics. What she draws is very relatable to people who are autistic.
AspiGurl's official website describes the comic as expressing the voice of autistic people through "anecdotes or reflections from everyday life", with suggestions from autistic readers for future comics. She also has a Patreon to fund the webcomic.
Skye
Tumblr media
The cyborg first makes its appearance in the second episode of this webcomic
In this fantasy webcomic by Cynthia J. Schmitz on Line Webtoon features a cyborg named Cora. Also, the protagonist, Skye, has clear mental strife, as the equivalent of an evil demon is living inside of her. Cora becomes good friends with Skye and seems to have a crush on her, with their closeness growing over the course of the webcomic. Characters who are visually impaired also appear.
Da Yomanville Gang
Tumblr media
Layla (right) and her mom (left), who came back into her life in a recent episode.
In this fantasy webcomic by Jason King on Line Webtoon, Layla makes new friends and deals with old ones as she goes through family and interpersonal conflict inside and outside the schoolyard. She has a scar over her left eye, covered by hair at the beginning of the series, which has the effect of impairing her sight out of that eye. It is later uncovered as she becomes more sure of herself.
Hazbin Hotel
Tumblr media
Vaggie lays out the deal they are extending to Angel Dust
Vivienne Medrano's indie animated smash hit, Hazbin Hotel, currently in development for a full animated series, is mostly known for its animated pilot. There is also an accompanying webcomic. In the webcomic entitled "Chapter 1: Dirty Healings", (presumably written by Medrano) Charlie and her girlfriend Vaggie are able to convince a pornstar named Angel Dust to stay at their hotel, which attempts to redeem those who've sinned.
Like in the pilot, Vaggie has no eye and it is replaced by an eyepatch, which is reflected in the new designs for the series. Some have also guessed that the pilot has autistic characters, but that hasn't been confirmed.
Do you know of any webcomics which feature characters with physical or mental disabilities that you’d like to recommend? Feel free to comment below. I’d love to hear from you!
*My mentionings of any platforms on this post are unsponsored.

Your friendly reminder that reducing Ironwood to his disabilities and ignoring the fact that he was always a narcissistic distrustful egomaniac who believed in "my way or the highway" makes you the shitty person.
Anon the only shitty person here is you. You are the one harassing someone on their correctly tagged personal blog because you lose your shit when someone dares to disagree with you on your precious show written by able bodied cis white guys. You purposefully go into the tags for the sole purpose of getting pissed off so you can harass people you don't like because they dared to have a different opinion then you do.
I talk about James being a triple amputee because he is one. Talking about a persons disabilities and how ableism harms them is not "reducing them to their disabilities" for fucks sake anon you people can't even pretend to hide how ableist you are. James is disabled, RW//BY relies on said disabilities as a shortcut to villainy. That is ableist. I can't make this any simpler anon but that isn't the issue. You're just so fucking ableist you don't give a shit about the people harmed by the ableist writing in your precious perfect show.
Anon You're the one rewriting 7 volumes of the show because the writers told you to drink the kool aid and you don't want to be called out for how stupid it is. James comforted Ruby when she failed to catch Cinder, he listened to Ozpin when he decided to send four first years and a history teacher to investigate possible terrorist activity, he comforted a bunch of scared students and assured them if they ran no one would judge them when shit hit the fan. He was polite and kind to Weiss and pissed off a bunch of snobby rich assholes when he refused to arrest Weiss after accidentally summoning a Grimm to a party full of civilians. He gave Yang a new arm free of charge and with no expectations or strings attached despite what you assholes try and spin it as. He tried to compromise in volume 7 where he could. He listened to the mains, they just gave him crap ideas he couldn't do much of anything with. He gave them time off and listened and worked with Robyn and told everyone the truth when the mains told him he should. He listened and tried to be reasonable up until the mains revealed how shitty they had been and how they lied to him and leaked top secret classified information to a non military personal intentionally causing unrest and stealing from the military. They fucked up and then threw a fit when that shitty behavior actually *gasp* had consequences.
I also just love (sarcasm) how you ignore the fact that James told said mains everything about his plan right from the start he was honest but they lied. RUBY INTENTIONALLY KEPT CRITICAL INFORMATION FROM JAMES and knowingly helped him on a plan she knew would not work because Salem was immortal and withheld that from James. SHE'S THE DISTRUSTFUL LIAR but that would break your precious perfect story to acknowledge that so instead you listen to CRWBY when they insist James was the distrustful one and hope no one noticed but we did notice. We did see how bullshit it was and are calling it out but YOU anon being the shitty asshole you are continue to harass people for pointing that out.
Also incase you somehow just tunned out every scene he was in, Jacques is the egotistical narcissist. Or did you once again oh so conveniently forget how he married into the Schnee's for power? You're just plucking traits of other characters and throwing them onto James once again praying we don't notice and once again anon you failed.
Grow the fuck up anon and block me and move on with your life. Your obsession with me is pathetic.

pointing out the appropriation of aesthetics to sexualize them for white characters (which raven is) while sidelining the actual asian characters & behind the scenes treatment of employees of colour isn't an "sjw" thing, anon. it's a trending issue in crwby & their known fetishization of asian cultures, & monty isn't the gotcha you think he is considering his own problematic views & the way he disregarded his own cultures to suit him. see: "point out china on the map" & treatment of characters of colour like emerald.
(cont.) "also the defense of "most of the cast wears a skirt" like yeah babe. rwby sexualizes it's female characters to hell & back in weirdly inappropriate for combat wear lmao. you really connected the dots on that one officer fuckface."
Crazy take, you can be a fan of Monty's works and still be critical of his opinions as a household creator. Monty was human, he had flaws and his biased views shouldn't be put into the sideline nor should he as a person be martyred for "gotcha's" in legitimate criticisms of his IP (the same IP that has been transformed so differently from what it was initially).
And yeah, no shit she wears a skirt like most of the cast. All of them also shares the same body shape, the same facial features (saved for Robyn), and are equally sexualized with unnecessary boob windows, short skirts, thigh windows, and bare feet in environments and situations that would royally fucked them up if their Aura went to shit.
Weiss was smaller and shorter to emphasize her fighting style that prioritized speed and agility, a contrast to Yang's who's taller and more built in form to fit her fisticuff style. Now both of them are the same hourglass shape saved for the height difference. They're designated as the "hot girls" that MK fetishized over writing them as capable and interesting characters. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.
All of this is in the same breath calling Sun, who is literally designed after famous Chinese literary figure Sun Wukong, motherfucking Qítiān Dàshèng Sun Wukong, with dark eyes and darker skin as white. News flash, asshole anon, Asians have a range of skin tones because of these things called genetics and the motherfucking sun. My cousins are darker than me, and none of us are mixed race. Sun is more Asian than Raven, or god have mercy, Blake's asses will ever be. Cope, mald and seethe.
That anon and those like them are so racist they can't even understand why it's a bad fucking thing for a well-known company like RT to continue advocating and practicing Orientalism. Clowns the lot of ya'll.

The new single "Different Now" from John-Allison Weiss is finally available wherever music is streamed: https://lnk.to/johnallisonweiss
Indie pop songwriter John-Allison Weiss has signed to Get Better Records and shares new single, “Different Now,” which is their first new music since 2015 and coming out as transgender.
Tumblr media
LISTEN NOW
“Different Now” was the last song I wrote before heading down the path that would lead to my transition and divorce. My partnership was the first loving place I could be my true self, but the truths I uncovered meant the relationship had to end,” says Weiss.
John-Allison Weiss last released full lengths in 2013 with Say What You Mean (No Sleep Records) and 2015 with New Love (SideOneDummy Records). Weiss spoke about working with the queer/trans artist run label, Get Better Records, and reflected “I spent a long time trying to fit into traditional music spaces and by 2020 I was totally burned out. Get Better Records is the community support I’ve always needed. They constantly remind me that my art is valuable, and my sense of self is worth protecting.”
“I don’t think I have the words to accurately describe the feeling of finally putting out new music in my new body and my new voice,” says John-Allison, who has been writing music since they were 15. “I feel like a damn butterfly or a bear after a long winter. I’m stretching my limbs and coming alive again. I survived some really dark days to finally see myself in the mirror for the first time, and I’m so proud to have come out of that struggle with music to share.”
Weiss’s latest offering points to a deepening in their artistic practice while maintaining the earnest emotional spaciousness they’ve been creating for fans since they were in high school. '“Different Now" is about leaving, not because anything went wrong, but because people grow, feelings fade, and sometimes choosing yourself means leaving the familiar behind. It’s a call to accept change and follow your heart,” concludes Weiss.

They really cut Lady Stoneheart out of GOT. What if they do the same with Alys River? 😣
"They" were Benioff and Weiss. Who, fortunately, have nothing to do with House of the Dragon.
Ryan Condal is a huge fan of the books and makes everyone on the staff read both ASOAIF and F&B if they haven't (the opposite of what D&D were doing) and so far we have seen evidence that HotD isn't cutting any characters of note. (Even Ryam Redwyne was there.(
Aside from that, Alys was never in danger of being cut. She is 1) Aemond's love interest, 2) the main person he interacts throughout his Riverland arc and the only one he interacts throughout it (the only other notable character he would have interactions with is Criston Cole, and it can't all be about their dynamic - and then they part, too), 3) their relationship is one of the most interesting things about Aemond in the books and the only thing that can make him likable once he is in the Riverlands, and without it he gets no character development, 4) very interesting in her own right and a character who brings new perspectives as a lowborn bastard wet nurse, Old Gods worshipper, someone connected to Old Gods/weirdwood/Harrenhla/Isle of Faces magic, and 5) has her own storyline after his death, as a widow/Witch Queen ruling Harrenhal and defying the new regime during the regency.
The only way you could cut her would be if Aemond was made to be a side character once he goes to the Riverlands, or if the showrunners hated Aemond so much and wanted him to be a one-dimensional villain so they wanted to remove any romance he has and anything that might make him sympathetic. (Or maybe those imaginary showrunners would've rewritten Alys as someone he rapes after taking the castle and that would be it.) Or they would have to be completely disinterested in telling women's stories. I think there's no need to point out that this is definitely not the case with HotD.
She wouldn't even be cut if D&D were in charge. But they would, no doubt, take the most sexist possible interpretations of her, take every misogynistic rumor about her from Fire & Blood as accurate (they would completely miss the irony) and make her something like show!Melisandre 2.0 only worse. Also not something I think I should be at all afraid of with HotD, based on what they've done so far with the female characters and the things they have said about the portrayal of women in Fire & Blood.
The "Alys Rivers will be cut" speculation seems to be simply wishful thinking from people who ship fanon incest ships, got into them so much that they are starting to forget they are not canon, and were upset to learn about Aemond's canon love interest from the book. With possibly some support from the folks who are really upset that Alicent does, after all, have a confirmed living grandchild at the end of Fire & Blood, which doesn't fit with the "ha ha her bloodline is dead and this is what makes our side superior" narrative.
I doubt that any of them really believe it, because that would require believing that Condal and the rest of the writing staff are genuinely into the idea of Targaryen blood purity and are trying to promote it by eliminating every non-incestuous romantic relationship from the book, and that they value that over good and compelling TV. If they believe it really... they need a dose of reality. Maybe they think the showrunners will try to fanservice them, but they forget that the general viewership is not the same as the "blood purity" incest-obsessed Targ stans on Twitter.

i felt this way about the early release and after giving myself plenty of time to chew on it before rewatching, i stand by it: adapting almost the entirety of volume one was a mistake, and the story would have been much better served by a shorter, more narrowly focused recap followed by an original first act. cutting the jaundice arc shortens v1 to a total runtime of about 90 minutes, which honestly isn’t that much longer than the 60 minute runtime of iq’s first three episodes—but trying to fit 90 minutes worth of story and the necessary setup for the original narrative into one hour is a... heavy lift, and the end result is that iq’s first act is neither a good adaption nor a particularly engaging story in its own right.
it’s tough because obviously the intention with adapting v1 is to make iq accessible to viewers who may be coming in fresh, but at the same time the abridgement was pretty clearly written with the assumption of prior knowledge on the audience side so it ends up not really serving that need for newcomer accessibility anyway: the climactic sequence of v1 being skipped over completely is especially egregious, but it’s all kind of... like that.
compounding that issue is the attempt to flesh out RWBY by elaborating on their lives before their arrival at beacon, which... i have mixed feelings about. it works for weiss, because iq is fundamentally about filling in the gaps of her character development between v1 and v2, and providing context for the white trailer to establish upfront the stuff about her home life that rwby proper left simmering quietly until v4 is important—but on the other hand for blake, ruby, and yang everything new feels like either a rehash of things that were established more efficiently and with greater clarity in v1 itself, or else just new traits that don’t really... feel quite like them? (e.g. ruby’s childishness)
i think a better way to go about it would’ve been to approach act one more narrowly through weiss’s perspective: begin with the adaption of the white trailer, then introduce ruby, yang, and blake as weiss meets them, leading with her first impressions—much the same way that rwby proper introduced yang, blake, and weiss through the lens of ruby’s point of view. this works for both fans of rwby—we’ve already seen ruby’s side of this story, but seeing it through weiss’s eyes will make it feel fresh and new even as it retreads familiar ground—and for newcomers, because it provides a cleaner lead into the world by actually like. introducing things.
like—follow weiss through the initiation before she meets ruby! set her up like the protagonist of this story and let the audience feel the impact of ruby being selected as the team leader through her perspective! instead of staying with ruby’s insecurities about being an inadequate leader, put the emotional emphasis on weiss’s perfectionism and how hard she works and how unfair it feels to her that some fifteen year old prodigy who goofs off in class but excels anyway got the leader spot instead of her. yeah? let this be a retelling from a different perspective instead of a recap with the story where weiss is the protagonist awkwardly grafted onto it and i think you’d end up with a much, much stronger opening act, with the original narrative integrated far more smoothly into the retelling and therefore more inviting to both old and new viewers.
there are grimm thorns that ensnare people in evil lotus dreams though so everything is forgiven

card layout tier list
while i'm at it with the longposts, here's a tier list of trading card layouts (also this only counts the default because otherwise magic has like six million different layout at this point)
A tier:
these are my favorites. each excels at what they set out to do. the original magic layout gives the feeling of pages from a magic tome, describing monsters and spells alike. the disney TCG works on another level, as it's able to display all the relevant gameplay information while prioritizing the art and name yet making it a functional. the disney game will, like pokemon, be primarily sold as collector pieces for disney fans, and for that purpose, this is fantastic. i especially appreciate how it manages to fit all of the collector's information, not just the artist, trademark, and set distribution information, but also the expansion symbol. the original magic card design was perfect in its simplicity, but the disney TCG is perfect in being able to convey so much information yet keep it concise and clear. i will never play that game, but i am in awe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
b tier:
i especially love how the attack and defense on old yugioh monsters was presented. it has the same old tome feeling of old magic cardsbut feels refreshingly different. the problem is that for effect monsters, which didn't exist for several sets, their information is much harder to fit into the text box. thankfully, the replacement design, with a larger textbox, had a similar feeling, and remains a strong and iconic design magic's modern design also goes in this tier. visually, i think it's a step back from the original, but as a gamepiece, it's far superior. like the disney game, it's great at portraying all the information players and collectors need in a concise manner. it also shows off the art well and has a good downward flow. of the designs in this tier, it's definitely the best
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
c tier:
here's where designs start getting iffier. i love the Future Sight border, but it is rife with gameplay issues, such as being unusable for right-handed players, as well as concerns about costs fitting in it. i like the way the border overlaps with itself in the oval and art, but it's otherwise hard to defend from a practical perspective however, it's still striking and visually interesting. it's remembered well for a reason and i would like to see wotc return to it, even if only for a secret lair or the like
pokemon layouts, new and old, haven't changed much from a practical level. i think they convey all the information that they need to, but a lot falls flat in terms of the layout. in both cases, the use of flavor text feels off. the collector's information in the corner is nice, but things like video game information is really unnecessary. the reason why it's there is because the pokemon trading card game is as much or more about being collector's pieces over game pieces. while there is a thriving competitive scene for the game and people do play it casually, most cards sold are because of the demand for fans of other parts of the franchise. as collector's pieces, i think they're compromised, since so much of the card is being dedicated to effects and the text box. things like flavor text or species information are neat and do add to the mystique of the card, but i don't think they're enough to make it better than a passing grade
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
d tier:
the worst designs that i'll talk about today are Cardfight Vanguard and Weiss Schwarz. they're pretty similar in terms of design, as Weiss Schwarz is a spinoff of Vanguard. simply put, they both run into information overload. abilities aren't listed in a good order, type information is smushed together with attack, and things like shield, grade, or trigger are visually overwhelming. it's a trainwreck of design, which is a shame because the game systems themselves are pretty neat. i will say, at least, that i respect Vanguard more for having its own art and designs, and thus, aesthetic, while the art used in Weiss Schwarz is all screencaps and promo art being reused. i'm sure that makes the game much cheaper to produce, but it also makes it feel cheap. and once again, it runs into the problem of making a game meant as a game and a collector's item. if you're buying weiss schwarz cards, getting screencaps from the show or reused promo art can feel really underwhelming
