Breaking news from Panama! 🟢
In a historic vote, the nation’s highest court today ruled the Minera Panamá mining contract for an open-pit mine unconstitutional, marking a WIN for biodiversity, local communities, and our planet. Panama has an opportunity now to be a leader in safeguarding precious ecosystems and protecting biodiversity. This ruling champions the rights, voices, and well-being of local communities over profit-driven interests. This victory is also a beacon of hope for our planet’s future. Safeguarding irreplaceable ecosystems like these is critical to combatting climate change and biodiversity loss. Congratulations to the people of Panama, who overwhelmingly rejected profit over planet. We continue to stand with you! “Two centuries ago, a former European colony decided to catch up with Europe. It succeeded so well that the United States of America became a monster, in which the taints, the sickness, and the inhumanity of Europe have grown to appalling dimensions.”
Frantz Fanon, The Wretched of the Earth (1961)

The pursuit of full humanity, however, cannot be carried out in isolation or individualism, but only in fellowship and solidarity; therefore it cannot unfold in the antagonistic relations between oppressors and oppressed. No one can be authentically human while he prevents others from being so. Attempting to be more human, individualistically, leads to having more, egotistically, a form of dehumanization.
— Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

The people of Panama are coming together to defend nature, calling on the country’s Supreme Court to declare a controversial mining project – in the protected rainforest Bosque Donoso – as unconstitutional.   This area, lying in the heart of the largest biological corridor in Mesoamerica, is a lifeline for many migratory species. It is critical to the livelihoods and cultures of local and Indigenous communities, and is home to wildlife that includes macaws, tapirs, monkeys and jaguars. This mining activity would have destructive impacts on the surrounding ecosystems, species, and people.   A global spotlight can help Panamanians win a critical victory for biodiversity and can pave the way for a more sustainable future.   Sign the petition to halt the mining project in Panama at this link: https://chng.it/dMzbJSxv7v   #PanamaTeQuieroVerde #PanamáValeMásSinMinería

Haiti has been a project of the clinton's foundation fundraising for a long time.
Today we take a look at that and we hope that you will answer the question and leave your response below.
We all need to try to think this through n I believe there's an answer that we will all be able to see at the very same time.
Haiti we have not forgotten about you..

The aim is to limit trade in goods and services that are problematic in ecological and human rights terms, largely driven by corporations taking advantage of international wage and price differentials, and often not necessary at all. While degrowth also aims to restrict the international movement of capital – a policy that could play a key role in the transition phase to stabilize international markets – it pursues the expansion of trade that is beneficial (in particular to the Global South), cultural exchange and slow travel, and the freedom of movement of people. It is therefore a matter of regionally anchored but interconnected and open economic relationships and a much more localized production. Degrowth, accordingly, does not stand for cultural and nationalist isolationism, homogeneous bioregions, or competition-based economic protectionism, but for ‘open localism’. There is also the proposal to ‘Design global, produce local’, which is made increasingly possible through digital means of communication in combination with digitally controlled production. For example, open-source sharing of designs, building plans, and instructions for the production of goods enables localized production based on a global ‘digital commons’. At the global level, the aim is to avoid unnecessary transport and environmental costs through regionalization and to reduce regions’ dependencies on the world market.

Hi,
Have you seen this?
Tumblr media
Source : Radio France
Another stone in the downward racist and fascist spiral of Macron and his government:
"artists from Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali are no longer welcome on French stages: the Ministry of Culture asks to no longer program in France the artists who come from these three countries
We haven't hit rock bottom until we can still say we've hit rock bottom. That's why I wonder how many african countries Macron will manage to alienate before his announced coup.
It looks like he is very itching (Via Edouard Philippe and Darmanin who run his communication policy and transmit orders to the prefectures) to also break with Algeria and screw up the 68 agreement. He can sit on Algerian gas in this case, he will no longer see a drop of it.
I want Algeria to cut all connections with France and repatriate its nationals, and citizens with dual nationality who wish to abandon France. It’s time to decolonize our minds for good.
I was actually reading about it right before seeing the notification!
Macron is behaving as if the old generation was still controlling the continent in Africa. Except it’s not. The old generation started the process of decolonization when they were young now the youth will finish the process of decolonization.
For Algeria the 1968 accords are not respected by France anyway so they can stop them it won’t change anything.
That being said Algeria won’t and cannot cut all ties with France. The President of Algeria, Tebboune was asked why he doesn’t cut all ties and he basically said « okay what about our children who live in France? What will happen to them if we cut all ties with France? ». We’re basically hostages. Even if 80% of the Algerians living in France (including those with dual citizenship) leave to go to Algeria or even an other country. The 20% who will stay in France will be enough to stop Algeria from cutting all ties.
On top of it it’s harder for the old generation to leave. France now refuses to pay the retirement rent on Algerian bank accounts and if by some miracle they do pay you if you live in Algeria they lower your rent despite the fact that you worked and contributed as much as someone who lives in France. Our chibanis were scammed by French employers and now that they are old they can’t even go back to their homeland with their due they are legit forced to stay in France the majority of the year (used to be 6 months a year now it’s 9…)
There’s also the fact that some kids see themselves as French just as much as they see themselves as Algerians. They were born here they have a French-Algerian culture so it’s fair for them to not want to give up one country. Asking them to do so is kinda unfair. (Personally I consider that I’m not the one who gave up on France, France gave up on me. But it’s easier for me cause I’m 2nd gen only. Both my parents were born and raised (partially for my mom) in Algeria so I was raised more Algerian than French compared to other people my age who are usually 3rd or 4th gen and are therefore more « mixed »)
I’m kinda rambling but all Algeria can do is show us that we are welcome to come live in our country if we want to and honestly they are doing a pretty good job at it already.

Sweden officially joined NATO on Thursday. It had been neutral since 1814.
One of Putin's pretexts for his illegal invasion of Ukraine was to prevent NATO expansion. What the invasion really did was to cause NATO to become reinvigorated and expanded.
With Finland and Sweden joining NATO, the land border between Russia and NATO has doubled in length. And the Baltic is now a Sea of NATO with Russia holding only a couple of relatively short strips of coastline near Kaliningrad and Saint Petersburg. This represents a spectacular strategic failure for Putin.
Sweden on Thursday formally joined NATO as the 32nd member of the transatlantic military alliance, ending decades of post-World War II neutrality as concerns about Russian aggression in Europe have spiked following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Secretary of State Antony Blinken presided at a ceremony in which Sweden's "instrument of accession" to the alliance was officially deposited at the State Department. "This is a historic moment for Sweden. It's historic for alliance. It's history for the transatlantic relationship," Blinken said. "Our NATO alliance is now stronger, larger than it's ever been." Kristersson wrote in a social media post that "we are therefore a safer country." Later Thursday. Kristersson will visit the White House and then be a guest of honor at President Joe Biden's State of the Union address to Congress.
Ukraine will eventually join NATO but it probably won't happen while active hostilities continue. Expect to hear Sweden mentioned at the State of the Union address.
Biden, in his speech to Congress, is expected to cite Sweden's accession to NATO as evidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin's intent to divide and weaken the alliance has failed as a direct result of the Ukraine invasion. And, the Democratic president is expected to use Sweden's decision to join to step up calls for reluctant Republicans to approved stalled military assistance to Ukraine as the war enters its third year. Biden and his NATO counterparts have vowed that Ukraine will join one day, too.
Tumblr media
Russian imperialism of the past 300 years has caused its neighbors to seek more protection against it. Few people in Eastern Europe have fond memories of being Russian or Soviet colonies. With Putin acting like a хуйло for the past 20 years, the only safe option is NATO membership.
