Two more sketches of ideas for @tigracespace's Pirateformers au, this time with ideas I've had for Scotta and Starbright!
Scotta is a lookout and junior ship repairman with a cursed amulet around her neck. The amulet houses some kind of energy or soul that gives her the ability to transform into a mer/siren, though it seems to be having an effect on her body. She can't take it off either, and sometimes, she can hear a voice on the other side.
Starbright is a traveling dancer who sticks to coastal towns and cities, her performances rumored to be ethereal and mesmerizing, even healing, but she's only seen during the day. At night, the rare few will see a birdlike siren out on the bay, dancing carelessly in the night sky. If you stay to watch until the end, she may give you something special if you're kind enough.

Transformers: Mosaic #547 - "Small Part Of The Big Game"
Originally posted on September 27th, 2010
Story, Art - Waseem Bashar Script, Letters - Franco Villa
deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005
wada sez: In response to a reader on deviantART remarking on the idea of basketball on Nebulos, Villa said: “Actually, they could be on Earth... where Hosehead and Lug may have moved in a potential future [...] It depends on the continuity you're following. In the Marvel comics, the origins of some Headmasters were never shown, and it is not 100% clear if they have a Nebulan partner or not. Or at least that's what I remember; maybe it was clear or implicit... You can also suppose this story is in cartoon continuity (after the Nebulans learned to change their body-look to blend in with humans.” Per a comment from Villa on Seibertron, the inspiration for this strip was the Sunbow episode “Only Human”. Original colors and Italian translation below.

Reread: Stormbringer
I’m torn on Stormbringer, as it has the kind of focus on Cybertron that's refreshing following things like Infiltration. It’s got a fair amount of Furman’s normal style of narration (one of my notes is just ‘this prose is rapidly purpling’) and a healthy dose of technobabble, but admittedly I think that tone works a bit better here, as all the discussion of ‘sin’ tones in better amongst the discussions of Thunderwing and Bludgeon’s grand plan.
Bludgeon is a very decisive villain and we have some interesting moments for a few other Decepticons, like the secret escape plan made by Dreadwind and Darkwing on Nebulos, or actually getting to see Crankcase’s Thunderwing backstory. It feels a little like I missed out on the Thunderwing thing, though, because the whole topic is introduced in this book as a past event, while this one centres around Thunderwing 2: Mind Control Boogaloo. This results in a lot of explaining what happened the first time in order to set up the second time, plus a lot of flashbacks, so it can start to feel as if you’re watching a story unfold when the most impactful bits have already happened. Not seeing more of the Autobot-Decepticon team-up to stop the first Thunderwing attack, for instance… That’s a miniseries I would have wanted.
Tumblr media
Poor Crankcase.
However, I think the story is overall fairly well-defined, all converging on the Thunderwing Fuckup, and the pace picks up after the opening issues. My only reservation is that the ending is the whole thing can feel circular - Thunderwing is dormant, is woken, destroys a planet that’s never appeared before and will not appear again, and then is put back to sleep. I just remember when I had a lecturer who used to talk about a way of approaching plot and story differently: in this system story was everything that happened and plot was what changed from beginning to end, so that some things could have a lot of story but not a lot of plot, because they essentially ended up where they started - a bit like  sitcoms that used to return to the status quo no matter what happened in an individual episode. I increasingly feel like Stormbringer might have lacked a bit of plot.
Stormbringer probably does a lot to set up which characters are where, however, and sets up Devastation and stuff to do with Regenesis… My final comment is really just appreciating Don Figueroa’s art and Josh Burcham’s colours, especially the effort they put into group shots.

. . . . . #draw #dessinmanga #dessinateur #dessin #drawing #art #artist #illustration #characterdesign #originalcharacter #oc #noiretblanc #takumioc #manga #inktober2019 #inktober #inktoberday22 #mangadrawing #CATAgenesis #ghost #fantome https://www.instagram.com/p/B364hMOI4Is/?igshid=1px7oje35k02n

Hopefully you don't mind questions but who's Aftertouch?
Ok so - I've been sleeping on Aftertouch for so long because I for some reason feel like I need to have a DESIGN for my ocs before I talk about them, but considering Aftertouch is important to Drillburst's, Glare's, and Pimpernel/Scotta's stories I'll just share ahead of time. Who cares if you don't know what he fully looks like!!!
Tumblr media
Aftertouch of the Pious Pools is a high-ranking Autobot, loyal to the cause but notoriously empathetic. He's well mannered in speech and presentation, incredibly patient, and understanding toward his crew, which has made him a well respected commander. He has a love for music and literature, and plays the piano in his free time.
He's a triple changer who turns into a jet as well as a submarine. He's also a loadbearer, and while his armor stands at 40 feet tall, he's actually no bigger than 16 feet. In his true form, he transforms into a seaplane!
Before the war, he was a student at the Jihaxian Academy of Advanced Technology, learning how to use his outlier ability: he can read the emotions and sense the thoughts of any cybertronian when resting his hand on them (think mantis from gotg). He used to be unable to control his ability, sensing the mind-grating feelings and thoughts of everyone he walked past, but once he learned to tame his ability, he decided to use it to help others by becoming a therapist. His dream was to play the piano for his patients as they talked through their problems together, creating a soothing sound-based environment. However, come the war, he found himself drafted into the Autobots; and after proving himself to be a remarkable force to be reckoned with over the course of millennia, Aftertouch was gifted special loadbearer armor and appointed to among the highest positions an Autobot could have: commander of an entire fleet.
Aftertouch’s ship is called the Truthful Reclaim. It’s a little smaller than the Lost Light, but it’s still very huge. It has a hangar for smaller ships, a training deck, crew cabins, and other things that constitute a battleship. It’s top of the class in armor and firepower, but it’s not as fast. Therefore, it’s flanked by smaller destroyer ships that defend it in battle.
Aftertouch's mission is to quell Decepticon fleets and hunt down highly dangerous Autobot enemies, above all elite Decepticons (postwar, he fights fleets who have gone rogue and hunts elite Decepticons who have not yet accepted the end of the war). He and his special team are equipped with state of the art capture and stasis technology, and to date have brought dozens of high-risk Decepticons to the justice of Autobot command. His fame, or notoriety, marked him as an important target among the Decepticons.
While he's feared by many, Aftertouch is loved and respected by his crew. A notable Autobot under him is Pimpernel, an intelligent and kind mechanic whose occasional cluelessness adds to her charm. He's one of two who know that she's an organic in a suit; in fact, it was he who found her on Nebulos, alone and unaware of her surroundings. Since then, he has taken her under his wing, and assisted her in adapting to Cybertronian life. Aware of her fragility, he assigned her to mechanic duty aboard his ship, where he could always keep an eye on her. Another notable Autobot is Glare, a notorious ex-Decepticon in the process of atoning for his history of carnage. Glare was assigned to him by Autobot command to monitor with caution, given a special order to neutralize him if he proved too unruly or dangerous. Sympathetic and aware of Glare's softened spark, Aftertouch has never found it in himself to have to follow through.
While he may be a duty-bound commander and a powerful force, he's a soft-sparked therapist deep down. He still hopes that one day he can return to the dream he had before the war, but until the firm grip of Autobot high command loosens, he remains a powerhouse of deep space.
In Drillburst's story, he's the one who helps him learn to control his explosive outlier ability and channel it outward instead of inward :D

This is Aireo aka Skybreaker (also mistakenly referred to as Aeolus in some early issues) I first noticed him because I thought he looked like Fabian Cortez in the top image (not so much the others) though his ponytail is far superior! He is an Inhuman, born and raised in their hidden city of Attilan. Like most Inhumans, he underwent the rite of Terrigenesis and was granted superpowers from it; in his case, flight. At some point, he grew dissatisfied with the reign of King Black Bolt, and banded together with a group of other dissident Inhumans: Falcona (who could mentally control birds), Timberius (a tree-like man), Stallior (an Inhuman centaur), Leonus (a lion-like man), and Nebulo (an Inhuman who was a living shadow) They rebelled against Black Bolt together, and the reason given by Leonus is that Black Bolt was too kind. It is unknown if this was Aireo’s complaint as well or if he had a different issue; given he later complained that Attilan was “regressive” perhaps his problem with Black Bolt was something else. Or perhaps kindess is regressive to him! In any case, they were both banished and imprisoned in one go, made to live together surrounded by an unbreakable barrier. When by chance Lockjaw teleported the Hulk into their prison, he freed them by smashing it (though only to free himself) Maximus “the Mad” Boltagon, Black Bolt’s brother who desired the throne for himself, had been watching. He appeared before them, and recruited these rebel Inhumans to his side. However, when his plans went too far and he risked destroying everyone in Attilan, Aireo proclaimed him to be mad with power and heroically tried to stop him. Despite this, Maximus took Aireo along with the others when he escaped to South America, and Aireo once more helped him with his schemes. Eventually, however, he left Maximus. Rather than return to Attilan (perhaps because he couldn’t, or perhaps by choice) he continued to live in the human world. He was eventually recruited by Project Earth, an eco-terrorist group, to serve on their strike force for hire, Force of Nature, which was composed of super-humans who had powers related to each of the four elements. By this time, Aireo’s skills had evolved from mere flight to true aerokinesis---he could generate and control wind! With concentration, he could even take the air out of someone’s lungs. To match these new gifts and his new job, he took on the codename of “Skybreaker”. Force of Nature clashed with the superheroes known as the New Warriors several times, eventually resulting in their imprisonment in The Vault, a jail specialized for the containment of criminals with super-powers. Skybreaker was among the inmates who protested the treatment of prisoners there, stating that it was more regressive than Attilan (this is the remark noted earlier!) During the Dark Reign event, he joined The Initiative as a registered superhuman working for Tony Stark’s SHIELD. One superhuman team was assigned to protect each US State; Force of Nature, including Skybreaker, was assigned to Oregon. When Nevada’s team, the Heavy Hitters, attempted to secede from the Initiative, Force of Nature was sent to put them back in place by force. During this fight, Skybreaker shattered a helicopter with his winds. Osborn also sent the Dark Avengers and other villainous Initiative recruits to invade Asgard. Force of Nature was one of these, and it resulted in the gruesome death of Skybreaker’s teammate Terraformer, who was chopped in half by a sword. Afterwards, Steve Roger evaluated Force of Nature, and deemed them to be a threat that should be incarcerated, though he thought Sunstreak (one of their members) deserved another chance. He noted that he would prefer to send Skybreaker back to his people, but doesn’t think they’d take him! This is the last heard of Skybreaker as far as I can tell, but with the increase in Inhuman stories currently going on, perhaps he will return! As far as Aireo’s personality goes, I admire how he stood up against Maximus...and I less than admire him telling Firestar to call him “Master” and making bad jokes about “taking your breath away” with his powers.  He may physically have his head in the clouds, but in metaphorical terms, he’s very down to earth. In his first appearance (The Incredible Hulk #1) he’s the one making sensible remarks to his hotheaded teammates and stopping them from doing something stupid (or, in Maximus’s case, genocidal) Despite an extremely skinny physique (he’s officially listed as 5′9 and 110 lbs, though the art does not reflect this well) he was once shown as able to lift the Hulk and carry him with him in flight. Perhaps his flight powers extend to being able to make anything he is in contact with fly too, or perhaps this was an early sign of his wind powers to come, or perhaps this is an example of enhanced Inhuman physiology. Or the artists/writers just weren’t thinking! Also, Maximus made him help with dressing him in one scene and that’s my headcanon for why he fucking left.
