THIS IS NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM SHIT!!!!

I desperately need people to talk to me about there AU ideas but they can't write fanfics please I'm dying

(it doesn't let me tag everything I want so please just read it)

I've been having different scenes of ideas in my head about natm au's for AGES so I'm gonna let them out in the form of a little rant for y'all.

1. So the tablet is fucked up again and it sends everyone (incl. Movie 2 and 3 characters) to their original time periods, and it's up to Larry and Nicky to get them back cause in the world irl people are disappearing and then winding up in random periods in time.

No one remembers anything of the museum until like a core memory is unlocked and they move on to the next time period.

For instance with Jedediah it was fighting Octavius, with teddy it was talking to sac, ans so on.

2. This one is just a random scene in a random situation.

Modern AU, Larry's car broke down in a small town and he goes looking for someone to help.

He stumbles on a small garage with horrible county music playing and a guy head in a car engine somewhat dancing (more like just shaking his ass or something stupid) with the music.

(the music is either Country girl shake it for me, fucked by a country boy or it's save a horse ride a cowboy. And only those songs).

3. And then it's just random stuff from movies of shows where I imagine the characters in show to be the characters from natm, for instance: the guy who didn't like musicals (starkid), last of us, just a random apocalypse, Fallout, trail to Oregon (starkid again), the quarry (a game, I suggest Jacksepticeye's playthrough) and just other random stuff.

lastly I just wanna say sorry if my sentences aren't correct or make sense, my brain comes with 10 different ways to say things and they all just mix together.

hi here's a rant about NATM/TA/real person tagging for a second because it hurts me when people don't tag right

Okay literally nobody else cares but, so, if you've ever explored character tags you know there may be one character name across different fandoms/games/movies/shows/books etc.

And one tag I keep going through is the (this is embarrassing) TR tag because I need my serotonin. Now, there's two different tags for him. Just two.

"Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt Jr."

and

"Theodore Roosevelt (Night at The Museum)"

Now my MAIN problem is these two tags are often intertwined across three different sections.

The Alienist, a show from 2018 based around murders of young boys in NYC, but also a book (Show originated from book) by Caleb Carr.

Night at The Museum, 1-4 (or 1-3 if you deny 4 exists), a movie series of exhibits coming to life at night.

and history, like, real history, Political RPF / Historical RPF / 20/21/19th century RPF. Don't ask why it's not in order.

And the problem stems from the NaTM section.

The "Theodore Roosevelt (Night at The Museum)" tag has 286 works. 281 are NaTM fics. Now it says there's multiple in Until Dawn and Harry Potter and shit but like that's not even true so we'll ignore that.

The "Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt Jr." tag has 451 works. However, that includes The Alienist and Newsies and any other misc. fandoms. However, the first result I get is a NaTM fic which is also grouped in the (Night at The Museum) tag version. This could be an AO3 system problem, but my next point proves it isn't always.

I see a lot of fics, whether it be The Alienist or NaTM or not, tag him as just Teddy Roosevelt. Well the problem there is it's going to redirect you to the "Theodore Roosevelt (Night at The Museum)" tag and not "Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt Jr.". I can imagine it's because the NaTM tag is frequently "Teddy Roosevelt (Night at The Museum)" instead.

But at the same time, a lot of The Alienist fics tag him as Teddy Roosevelt as well. That, again, leads you to the NaTM tag instead. I know this bc I just did it but if you need screenshots lemme know and I'll reblog w/ screenshots but just be specific of what you want.

But as I looked, the subtag section is the NaTM tag. That means that tag is grouped into the non-NaTM tag almost automatically. BUT that doesn't explain why there's more NaTM fics in the non-NaTM tag than there is in the NaTM tag.

For my NaTM fics, I tag it as "Theodore Roosevelt (Night at The Museum)". That's because I don't want to come across my OWN fics immediately while searching. Now, it's going to happen, obviously, subtags-parent-tags are the same thing virtually, subtags derive from parent-tags (at least I'm assuming). But some fics are just tagged as "Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt Jr." and it genuinely confuses me on why the NaTM tag isn't the one used.

Here's the parent-tags section for the IRL tag:

As you can see it's The Alienist, Newsies, CE RPF, and... that's it. Not Night at The Museum.

The subtag category, however:

Now, when you go into "Theodore Roosevelt (Night at The Museum)" and open up the tag-relation section, you see this in the Parent tags:

So you absolutely CAN'T tell me they're grouped into the exact same tag as a parent tag because they aren't.

I think this is really just a mix of author-tagging and AO3-system-tagging, but, as a last piece, whenever you write NaTM fic and he's in it, please, do THIS:

and NOT this:

Because not only is it the right tagging and helps not fuck with the system, but it's incredibly helpful to me.

And if you write The Alienist fanfiction and he's present, yes, PRESENT, because there's fics without his tag that have him in it, or fics with him in it that DON'T have his tag, then use the second tag above, the "Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt Jr." tag, NOT the NaTM tag, OR "Teddy Roosevelt".

"Teddy Roosevelt" once again refers to "Theodore Roosevelt (Night at The Museum)" and NOT "Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt Jr.".

Also just a side-note: the "Theodore Roosevelt Jr. (1887-1944)" tag is Ted Jr., TR's eldest son, hgjjn he had a tag but it had no works but now the only work in there is mine. So if you see it pop up and you're hella confused then that's why. Now it actually has a work and isn't an empty tag cause wtf was that for

Day 1: Jake Wyler (NATM)

The tree was lit and the fire was burning. It was time for the annual Christmas gathering of friends that Kyle had since high school.

You knew the story, the way these rejects and outcasts had become friends, the secret plan to steal the SAT answers and the plot that came after. At first you didn't believe it, but after the meeting them all and getting to know them, you knew it to be fact.

So now, you were muddling in the kitchen of your new home, three months married and a lifetime ahead of you. You turn to host the gathering had come and while you were excited, you were nervous.

You and Kyle had been together a total of three years now and whilst you enjoyed most of the group there were a few who made you cringe even to this day.

“Babe?” His voice echoed into the room well before he appeared.

“Yeah?”

“You seen my sweater?” He asked, striding into the room, his top half bare, bottoms clad in jeans. “The one with the little snowmen on it?”

"Oh hello, handsome," you smirked. "It's hanging in the guest room closet."

He kissed you softly behind your ear as he turned on his heel and headed out the direction he came.

You on the other hand went back to making sure you had prepared enough appetizers for everyone.

For a party of ten, you had about enough food for thirty.

You needn’t have worried. Most of the food went, your friends seemingly starving as they all tucked into the spread, the drinks flowing merrily as you all caught up and discussed your plans for the rest of the holiday season.

And then it came time for the best and most fun part of the night, the gift exchange. Every year that you'd been around and apparently since before your time, this party existed and the game was White Elephant/Secret Santa.

You’d managed to draw Francesca when picking names, which suited you down to the ground. Out of all of them you knew her the most so had managed to select a nice scented candle and matching bath oil which you knew she would appreciate.

You had also thanked your lucky stars you hadn’t picked Anna, as whilst you had nothing against her as such, the fact she was Kyle’s ex still kinda weirded you out a little.

So you set your wrapped gifts in the nice box with the tree stamped paper on the table and more followed when everyone arrived. You weren't sure who Kyle had picked, neither of you sharing so in order not to ruin the surprise.

By the time you were looking around for the gift giving, there were more than one present wrapped in the same paper.

“Erm…” Francesca pulled both gifts out, “the tags have fallen off.” There was a pause, before she sighed, “well, I wrapped them both anyway seeing as Kyle is useless,” she handed one of the boxes to Anna, then one to you. “Surprise! One of you has a gift from me and the other has a gift from Kyle. I’ll let you work out which is which.”

Francesca opened her gift and surely was happy to find the one you'd gotten for her, a bright smile crossing her face.

Her mouth fell open as she pulled the chocolate body paint and edible panties from the box, and Kyle flushed bright red.

“Fran, you bought Anna pervy presents?” Matty snorted.

“No, they're from me!” Kyle said hastily, which made the boys howl even more.

About as mortified as Kyle was, you sighed and passed the slippers off to Anna and went back to the kitchen with the excuse of grabbing more drinks.

“Y/N…” Kyle followed you, “baby, I’m so sorry.”

"It's okay," you chuckled, "embarrassing as hell, but...."

“It was supposed to be a joke, when I got your name I just…” he sighed. “Fuck.”

"Well," you sighed, "nothing beats an awkward Christmas gathering like giving your ex-girlfriend edible panties."

“I didn’t give them to her she… she got given them by mistake.”

"Well, maybe next time don't ask Fran to wrap your shit! And save it for just us!" You were uncontrollably laughing by now.

“Look, it was supposed to be just a little fun, before you get your proper gifts on Christmas Day.” Kyle rolled his eyes, “and you know I’m crap at gift wrapping. There’s a reason my mom does it all for me!”

"My God, I can't go back out there!"

Kyle sighed, “well it’s that or I send 'em all home.”

"They can stay, but you're fixing this and when they all do go home, you're the one getting painted with the chocolate while I wear only the panties," you tossed back a recently poured shot of tequila.

Kyle blinked, before he grinned. “That was the point anyway, so deal.”

"Or, on second thought, I know...." you smirked. “You wear the panties and I eat the chocolate paint from the jar."

His grin changed to that of a stone stiff frown.

“No, that’s…” Kyle sighed, “that’s not what…” he stopped as you folded your arms across your chest and he groaned. “Fine, but only because it’s Christmas.”
