A happy ending for Sasuke is literally not even POSSIBLE for basically ALL of Naruto like it's not even funny. He really never even had a CHANCE he has of living a decent life, it's not even on the TABLE, by literally no fault of his own (because he's never done anything wrong). I'm going to scream.

0-6? Forces unbelievably outside of his control are organizing, ensuring, and executing an ethnic cleansing of his entire clan at the hands of his favoritest person in the world. Forces including the shattered psyche of said favoritest person, who tortures him until he is too terrified and traumatized to even think about anything else for years.

7-12? enrolled in Child Soilder School, completely isolated socially (not as a pariah but as a prodigy) befret of any support system, still traumatized beyond belief, and left with no outlet for any of his issues besides obsessing over the day, one day in the future, where Itachi will be dead and all this unresolved suffering and guilt and love and anger and fear and fear and FEAR will go away forever. Right? Because it has to. There has to be an end. Right?

12? Government assigned found family give him the support and love and attention and outlet and for the future that he's been craving for so long he didn't even KNOW it's what he needed. Has a soulmate and a bestie that can read his mind and a mentor who actually is willing to meet him where he's at and help him and maybe even love him and is this......Hope? That perhaps he can have a life outside of what Itachi did to- Itachi. Itach- FUCK. ITACHI IS LITERALLY HUNTING NARUTO FOR SPORT WITH ALL HIS WAR CRIMINAL FRIENDS AND SASUKE SHOULDN'T HAVE LET HIS GUARD DOWN BECAUSE IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW STRONG KAKASHI OR EVEN THE WHOLE VILLAGE IS, ITACHI WILL KILL ANYONE SASUKE IS STUPID AND SHORT SIDED AND CRUEL ENOUGH TO CARE ABOUT, HOW DID HE FORGET, HOW DARE HE FORGET, HE NEEDS TO GET STRONGER HE NEEDS TO AVENGE HIS CLAN HE NEEDS TO FUFILL HIS FRATERNAL DUTY HE NEEDS TO LEAVE BEFORE ANYONE ELSE IS MURDERED BY ASSOCIATION-

13-16? He dropped a lit match on his support system behind him him and ran into the cold shadows of obsessive anger that he only stepped out of long enough to loose the ability to ignore the gnawing want for warmth. That's bad enough, not even taking cohabitating with goddamned OROCHIMARU. No further explanation required there.

17? Kills his brother, gets NONE of the 'benefits' he spent his life convincing (begging) himself must be awaiting at the end. Instead everyhting has, in fact, gotten much worse very quickly and now all he has is a list of powerful people and systems that don't work and hurts and kills and tortures the people they've promised to protect that no one except him will oppose because it's basically suicide, and isn't he already so familiar with being on the shit side of this dynamic? Isn't it the normalest thing in the world, to fill the hole where his vengeance used to be with a hunt with near identical goals and intentions of his first vengance, the only real difference being his increasing dissalussion with ever being able to 'go back home', his almost all comsuming doubt that there's a 'home' waiting for him still, if there ever even was? So he dives into another goal before it goes as cold as the love he doesn't dare indulge, accumulating more power and rage then he knows what to do with (where can he put it down? where can he put it down?) and no reason NOT to challange corruption until it's either all gone or it kills him. Naruto, once the only person who looked at him with empathy instead of pity or expectation, thinks he should grit his teeth and bear it and go back to the village, as if that was ever an option for him. Sakura, once the only person who understood him, who followed his every thought process with ease and loved him even when he thought himself a monster, has finally given up on him and tries to kill him. What can he do but laugh as the world burns? It burned him first.

(but if that was true, then why is he still so cold?)

Soulmates: Okay, you must have telepathy or something, seriously! For a couple weeks now I've been working on a soulmate series with the fandoms in mind being Naruto and One Piece for right now. Getting ideas so things aren't the same across the board has been difficult.

As for the poll... I honestly had a few in mind as a general "who'd like the idea of having a soulmate." Since it wasn't multiple choice I put Itachi but Naruto, Gaara, Kakashi, and Lee, with Neji in a close position behind them, would be really high on my list. It all has to do with their life situations from canon.

So Itachi, if we stayed with canon, I could really see him hoping to meet them especially after being forced to kill his clan. I'm of the mind the Uchiha clan loves deeply, if not so much quickly. Knowing he has someone out there that would love him platonically or romantically without judging his past at least TOO harshly would be something I could see getting him through things. I don't think he'd want to find them because of what he's done and then with being ill, and having Sasuke coming after him...I just don't see him wanting to put them through that. If it was a non-massacre AU situation though, I still see him really loving the concept but in this scenario he'd want to find them. They'd be his safe haven, his quiet place, the one who really knows him behind the mask he wears for family and village. I can even see him actively looking for them depending on how the soulmate connection worked.

As for Naruto, I mean the boy really needs 100% on the poll. After all he's put through, sacrifices, and gives freely for loved ones and village, the boy deserves a soulmate and the sooner the better! Being called demon and monster and shunned as a kid could have really put him on a darker path and if we looked at it logically, he should have. I mean I can really see him being the ultimate villain in the story. However, with a soulmate - if someone explained it to him properly - I could see this being a dream right up there with wanting to be Hokage. To know someone will love him for him, Ramen obsession and all 🙂, would be something extra special to him and boy, don't let him hear you bad mouth them! Before he finds them or not. And then of course, the fluff!!!

Gaara, after his seal is fixed or whatever we want to say happens between the chunin exam invasion and when we see him next as a kage (I may have forgotten if they explained this or not it's been a hot minute since I've seen Shippuden), is kind of in the same situation as Naruto in a way. He'd probably be afraid of finding them at first because of Shukaku and not wanting to know someone who's his fears him. That'd break him, I think. But once he sees they aren't afraid of him and how tender they are with him it would be his most precious treasure.

There's a Part 2 to this! Look for it. 😆

OH MY GOSH! THIS ASK IS AMAZING! Okay, okay, okay, let me give me thoughts a section at a time, and then I'll get to the other ones ;)

ITACHI

With canon Itachi, I think you're so right in that his soulmate story is a tragic romance. He yearns for them, it brings him peace on his worst nights to know that there's someone out there who could love him, even after everything. But he will never, ever try to find them. If they found him, he'd run away so fast.

He feels cursed. His soulmate doesn't deserve to be dragged into this. They may be sad to never meet their soulmate, but whether they know it or not, Itachi thinks they'll be happier if he's dead.

Where this is complicated a bit, is what happens if Itachi has already found his soulmate before he massacre's his clan. But I still think that he'd run. He thinks it would hurt them less if he doesn't drag them into it. And if they're also an Uchiha? Well, I think he would rationalise that they'd be better off dead, give them a nice genjutsu life before killing them... and then he leaves Konoha with his soul quite literally broken.

Non-massacre Itachi is exactly as you said! His soulmate is his safe space! They would be so cute. Itachi would be so smitten. He pretends to be all logical about it whenever his teammates or Shisui would tease him about eventually finding his soulmate. Acting all mature like 'it's effort that makes a relationship succeed' and 'my first duty is to my clan'.

But then. Then! He meets his soulmate and boy is gone, he's a pile of love sick mush. Sasuke is incredibly judgemental about the whole thing lol.

NARUTO

So, Naruto is actually who I voted for, so safe to say I agree with you haha. But you summed it up so perfectly!

Child!Naruto wants to be loved. He wants someone to see him and love him, that's his biggest wish. Wanting to become Hokage is actually a step to achieving that, so actually being loved is his number one goal. So if he knew he had a soulmate out there somewhere? Oh boy. Meeting them is his dream, his ultimate life goal.

He dreams about them, he even talks to his imaginary version of his soulmate when he's sad. If he has some kind of mark, he caresses it all the time. He's keeps a sharp eye out for his soulmate.

But what I think is so cute about a soulmate AU with Naruto, is he talks about them constantly, he's desperate to find them, everyone around him is like lol, poor soulmate is going to be bombarded by him.

And then Naruto meets them, and he gets shy. He's all blushy and starry eyed and shy, and it's literally the cutest thing in the world!

GAARA

I think your idea is very realistic for Gaara, in the sense that he needs to be in the right place, as an adult, before he's anticipating his soulmate.

I do think that he's way more cautious than Naruto though. While he believes in soulmates, I think he doesn't quite fall in love with them until he meets them and gets to know them. He's not going to fall in love with a concept like Naruto.

But once he finds them, he's so pro soulmates. With his own children, he encourages them heavily to find their soulmate, and will give as many resources as they need to make it happen.

So in a weird way, Gaara is more in love with the concept of soulmates after he's already found his own.

This ask is talking about this fic.

I've worked on that one in the course of the past year at least and I do actually have hopes of updating it one day. Anyone who is a longtime reader of my fics knows I took seven years to finish one fic and ten years to finish another... so it would not be wise to assume it's abandoned. xD

But, okay, here's the summary version. This is a dot point explanation of where the fic goes from where it left off.

This contains literally all of the spoilers for the whole fic. :)

Read beneath the cut at your own risk, etc.

Having defeated Ino, Sakura draws Sasuke for her first fight in the final of the chuunin exams. Kakashi sets Naruto up with Ebisu to work on his basics, elects to train Sasuke himself and tells Sakura that she can make inroads on her conditioning over the course of a month if she's smart. He gets Gai-sensei to look in on her every few days, but it's faaairly obvious nobody thinks a genin who won her preliminary on the strength of her genjutsu is going to beat Sasuke. Sakura knows this is practical but it feels cruel.

Her mother doesn't really notice the exams. She doesn't bring it up.

While Naruto is off training with Jiraiya instead of Ebisu, Sakura is bonding with Orochimaru, her soulmate. He drifts by her second storey window ever day or so like a miasma and comes in to see her in the evenings. He does her hair and tells her how pretty she'll be when she grows into her face. He brings her little trinkets (he starts with an ornamental comb but quickly moves on to rare poisons and old scrolls). He tells her she's so clever, it's little wonder she's all his.

Orochimaru seems very glamorous and competent and beautiful and he is absurdly gentle with her. He is already a magnet for wayward kids and teenagers, and this effect is amplified with his soulmate. Sakura occasionally wonders what he's doing in Konoha but she struggles to think clearly because of the whole soulmate phenomenon.

This cuts both ways, though. Orochimaru risks kind of a lot to keep coming to the same location in a village full of ninja just to see his soulmate every day. He helps her come up with a genjutsu that has no visual component, which can therefore¹ affect Sasuke without being vulnerable to the sharingan.

In the final tournament, Sasuke tries to get Sakura to give up by being absurdly mean to her at the beginning of their fight. Sakura would previously have wilted and not even tried to fight him, but she has a secret weapon, and it's imagining that Orochimaru expended all his time and expertise on plain little her and realising she straight-up cannot handle the humiliation and shame of giving up. She would prefer that Sasuke stab her than that she disappoint her soulmate, actually.

She does not beat Sasuke in the chuunin exam. Nobody is surprised that she loses, but they're extremely surprised by the amount of trouble she gives him first.

Gaara's first fight isn't with Sasuke, it's with Naruto. Naruto is also his soulmate (hinted at in an earlier chapter!) which makes his complete meltdown more severe. He freaks out totally and Orochimaru (disguised as the Kazekage) gives the signal to invade early because of it.

The Hiruzen-Orochimaru fight goes very similarly to how it does in canon, but, after Hiruzen seals his arms and dies, Sakura uses her genjutsu skills to try to help cover Orochimaru's retreat. He takes advantage of this and fucks right off, although I'm sure he feels real bad about it. His bad feelings aren't much comfort to Sakura in prison.

She's taken into custody. She has one conversation with a baffled Inoichi, but she's very low risk, so she's left in remand to cool her heels while sixty other invasion-related problems take precedence. She tries to write to Orochimaru, and she tries doing it with blood, but he can't answer. Hiruzen sealed up his arms. It occurs to Sakura that she's mega fucked it up, but she's kind of insulated from the scope of how much trouble she's in because her bond makes her feel like it was very righteous and everyone here is against her, rather than like she's done something awful herself.

Orochimaru has no arms but he and Kabuto can raise a boatload of cash at need. He goes on his canonical search for Tsunade, but he also sends a message to someone he knows who'll do pretty much anything if there's enough money involved. You may see where this is going!

Sakura knows nothing of this. She's alone, disregarded, and waiting in prison while people ignore her to try to fix the massive infrastructural damage of an attempted invasion. She's the POV character so we get a few conversations with Inoichi, Kakashi, and Naruto, and we don't hear anything about Orochimaru from her until Kakuzu, Itachi and Hidan show up to break her out. (Kakuzu and Hidan are there for her. Itachi travels with them to be a menace on behalf of his brother, as in canon; they are his companions and not Kisame just because all three are travelling to Leaf.)

This is when Sakura learns that her soulmate hasn't forgotten about her: he's hired these absolutely bonkers missing-nin. Itachi and Hidan are a massive distraction while Kakuzu kicks down the doors and tosses her over his shoulder. They hoof it out of the village. As you do. Itachi splits from them at one point, but it's unclear if he's off on his canonical confrontation with Naruto, Sasuke and Jiraiya.

IDK if I was ever going to manage to make this actual text, but: Hidan says he has no need for an earthly thing like a soulmate, but when he uses his One Weird Trick, Jashin writes on his body in huge, hostile characters, and who pretty much only writes in synonyms of suffering. Does he have a soulmate? You decide.

Sakura is cut loose, a freshly made missing-nin, out in River somewhere. She asks Kakuzu what she's meant to do and he says he wasn't paid to tell her anything. Thanks, Kakuzu. He and Hidan continue on their dysfunctional way.

Sakura has a steep learning curve where she does odd jobs as a missing-nin for months and months in a kind of existential limbo. Eventually she receives a job that is to kill a guy she feels is a very, very bad person and she realises that assassinations pay really well, can feel really good, and are really easy for a genjutsu type. Other things that are really easy for her: spying, stealing information. Unlike in canon, she never learns her taijutsu, medical or crazy strength skills, so she sucks at 1:1 fair combat and ends up doing way more traditional "kunoichi" work.

This is her life now.

Orochimaru does not write for ages. He has no arms. The Tsunade thing backfires (as you know).

She's a couple years older and injured badly in Moon Country, where she was off assassinating a useless prince who doesn't regard his own people at all, the first time he finally writes again.

It's to tell her he's been keeping tabs and she's doing wonderfully. He's recovered. He has a new body. He's looking forward to seeing her.

Sakura comes back to the mainland to recover, and takes up temporary work doing information exchange and bounty drops (she doesn't have the sprawling highly resourced network of a village behind her anymore—she can't just get a room somewhere and lie down for two months) in a dingy bar/teahouse, where she gets to practice her customer service skills with a twitching murderous smile every night. How fun.

While she's been gone, Akatsuki has run amok. Changes to canon events for the curious: Sasori and Deidara killed Gaara, and Sasori killed Chiyo and Shikamaru, whose shadows weren't capable of stopping everything Sasori threw at him all at once. He also killed Kankuro with his poison. This all has flow-on effects, like how Hidan and Kakuzu are still alive. A lot more Leaf-nin are dead.

She sees Kakuzu in the bar/teahouse. He comes to drop off a body. It's Asuma's. He does not buy a drink, and he rudely counts his cash at the bar. This man has no manners.

The story ends when she's finally reunited with Orochimaru. He comes to visit her at the bar (he does buy a drink).

He's using Sasuke's body, which is all his now.

I find the sharingan kind of broken and I like to headcanon that you could get around the "makes an entire branch of skills irrelevant" issue by having good enough chakra control and being really creative with non-visual genjutsu. It's not a perfect solution because humans are extremely visual creatures, but it's better than just going "oh well, guess I'll die then." (I also want to slide this idea into my OC: Red 'verse eventually.)

Omg, I just realized something that’s not gonna add much to the narrative or if anyone has noticed it.

Here we go.

So basically in episode 12, Vash did his girlboss move of flinging himself and Nai over the ledge.

And as they’re falling, I noticed something:

To me, this reminds of the Yin Yang symbol:

Then I remember that one post where someone mentioned where Vash in episode 12 wore the colors of ‘evil’ (black and purple).

Knives wore the colors of ‘good’ (white and blue).

They’re polar opposites of one another.

And that got me thinking more in depth with their relation with Yin Yang.

Obviously everyone is familiar with two sides of the same coin. It’s the same idea with Yin Yang, they’re polar opposites but they complement each other.

As part of the Naruto fandom (*groans*, I know I know). But hear me out, lots of symbolism that is related to Naruto and Sasuke is their relation to the sun and moon respectively.

Naruto is the sun. The Yang per say, because he is bright, aggressive and masculine. His respective color is orange.

While Sasuke is the moon. The Yin, because he is with the shadows, silent and feminine. His respective color is purple.

If you read the Naruto manga, then you would see how much Kishimoto bashes your head in with their respective symbolism, it’s in the cover art, the parallelism in the panels. It even showed up as their respective symbols on their hands after the ceremony for the final battle.

Back to TriStamp.

I believe they put Knives as Yang. He is aggressive and very in your face with his conquests of taking back the Plants. He is very muscular, and it’s shown through his tight bodysuit.

Then they would put Vash as Yin. He is way less aggressive with his morals than his previous counterparts. Obviously he still has them, but he is less forthcoming. His entire character design has changed, as everyone says with his non-binary haircut.

But in certain scenes, he still has those broad shoulders and managed to lift a fucking ion cannon enough to break his prosthetic arm. So, my babygirl is still fucking strong, hmph.

It’s even mentioned that the director of TriStamp has said Vash is both the female and male lead.

Same thing with Sasuke, some Studio Perriot staff has stated that he is the heroine of the story.

Obviously Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship heavily implies they’re in love with each other and soulmate coded to the max.

(Ha, get it? Trigun MAXimum??)

(. . ., I’ll see myself out).

But they did a different relationship of Yin Yang:

Twins.

Knives wanted desperately Vash to be the ‘perfect’ version that he envisioned. Taking away Vash’s bodily autonomy.

Vash just wanted to have ‘love and peace’ in the world. He didn’t want to fight Knvies, but he would defend his loved ones.

Until during episode 12, when he was ready to go in guns blazing to take down Knives.

With the color palette of black and purple against Knives’s white and blue.

Purple is the combination of red and blue. Vash’s red jacket and part of Knives’s color palette.

But also in the end, when Vash wanted to shoot that cube up in the sky.

He still wanted to save his brother, even though Knives was rejecting it by reaching to the absolute power of the cube and what it would bring him and Plant kind.

An Icarus-esque trope per say.

But yeah, anyways, this was just a jumble of thoughts I had to immediately write this down.

Can we just talk for a second about how Naruto is not nearly as superficial as some people read him? They think he just blasts everything out and that everything he says can be taken for face value... And that is simply not true.

Naruto has so many emotions he nearly never shows publicly. He is the kind of person to be suffering in silence while putting on a smile for the world and everyone around him.

His bubbly "extraverted" orange cat energy is just the superficial part of how he shows himself to the world.

He has been shouting about how he has to save Gaara. Only him. Is he bragging? Does he want to play the hero? Is he being impulsive and careless and disregarding teamwork?

My bet is hell no. We see in the Genjutsu Itachi casts on him how much Naruto sees himself as a failure for not being able to save Sasuke. He thinks he failed everyone. He feels deeply ashamed. There is all this pain of losing his soulmate and Sasuke trying to f*cking kill him. And it mixes up with the broken promise to Sakura. He thinks he disappointed his friend and his mentor on top of all that.

He is afraid they will disregard him, too.

When Sakuras sheds some tears over his situation, he just minimizes that, as if he felt unworthy of her compassion. My man is deeply traumatized, people-pleasing, and full of pain, shame, guilt, and regret at this point in the story.

And he needs to prove his worth by saving another friend. And he has to do it alone. Because everyone grew up to be awesome... And he just bears all this burden after vote1 alone. Well, only Sasuke, who caused this pain and shares it knows...

And someone less full of empathy would just hate him for that. But Naruto knows that the cruel world and the manipulation of more vile people corrupted Sasuke into darkness. So he still loves and wants to rescue him.

Once again, Naruto is such a f*cking beautiful story about REAL F*CKING LOVE PEOPLE.

Thank you @nightowl27-writer! Snow White looks like my cup of tea, can't wait to read it!

My five favourites from my own fics:

Tenderness (Five Years After)

I like Sasuke, I actually like Sasuke quite a lot. And while I don't write traditional m/m narusasu, I dabble in the genderbent variety once in a while. This is like a small ode to Sasuke and the way he covets Naruto. I was inspired by the poeticism of chapter 699. Anyway, looking back at it, I think some of the dialogue is a bit clumsy, but I like the introspection I had for Sasuke.

Petrichor

The imagery of Naruto smoking, leaning against a door frame, smoke billowing around him, rain pattering outside...I don't know where it came from but it was extremely vivid and out came this smut. Actually I do remember the sort of genesis of the idea, I was listening to the Smiths a lot at the time and the song Well I Wonder just gave me rainy night vibes. I thought I nailed the imagery of the scene I wanted to depict.

Consume

Somehow this is my worst performing fic lol, but I really like it. Maybe it's because I had to headcanon some stuff to make it work, and it's not clearly displayed in the fic itself haha. But I loved the way I portrayed their relationship, the angst Naruto secretly harbours, the tenderness Hinata displays to him. And the smut lol.

Bruises

I'd been thinking about this fic forever before I actually started writing it. Not my greatest in actual writing ability, but more like I love the way I capture the desire Naruto and Sasuke have for each other. It's more than sexual, it's like a borderline soulmate vibe without actually crossing that territory. Although a lot of this is sexual, not to give anyone the wrong impression lol.

Chicken Ramen for the Pervert's Soul

I feel like it's cheating to put this one here but I'd be lying if I said this wasn't one of my favourites. I love how low stakes it is, I can just write whatever silly idea I come up with and post it in here. All sorts of scenarios and kinks and whatever else. Reading a lot of smut was the most important thing I did to improve my smut writing ability. The second was writing and constantly posting for this fic. Anyway, I've got so many fond memories for a lot of the different chapters in here, and the fact I completed it then started posting more chapters again 🙈

A soulmate AU where both you and your soulmate have the same soulmate mark.

Note: The reader is EXTREMELY strong and comes from a clan that wants strong people and they train the members when they are young so they grow up to become strong and there are other clans that are also the same as the readers clan. They call these type of clans 'The Kenji clans.' translates to: The Strong clans.

So the readers mother thought at first that the readers soulmate might not be strong or able to handle the harsh training from the clan to become strong or anything, and the reader also thought on why she would have a soulmate since she's from one of the Kenji clans and her lifestyle is different and he would probably get killed or die cause of the training (yes the training is THAT harsh😭 and if he isn't strong then he'll have to go to do that training) And her mother also thought that, So because of that the mother arranged a marriage for her and and her fiance who was some dude that cames from a clan that's one of the Kenji clans.

The reader understood but didn't want to be with someone she didn't like. So she ended up having a argument. And when she met the guy she did not and I mean did NOT like him AT ALL, she hated His personality and he got on her nerves way TOO much and he didn't want to marry her either but they both were forced.

And came the day of her and her fiances wedding and so on the day fo their wedding the fiance was literally fighting back and saying he didn't want to marry her and he didn't want to be stuck with someone like her, she hated him A LOT. And I mean

to the point she ended up Killing HIM in their OWN wedding. They fought and fought Infront if everyone on their wedding. And then she decided to kill him. She actived a ablitiy she has, called ' death eye' and her eyes started having a skull in her pupils. And whoever she looks at when the death eye is actived, can die because whoever she make eye contact with when she has the death eye actived, they will also have a skull pupils in their eyes and then their head falls of their neck, they are now beheaded. And just the second she looks at them their head will just fall off. Instead of white, Her wedding was just bloody red.

The readers clan are friends with the Hyuga so the Hyuga clan was invited to the wedding.

Then the reader kills her fiance and a lot of people that she just makes eye contact with and they die because of the death eye. And they see her holding her fiances head with a michiveous look and michiveous smile, then suddenly her fiances head turns into a skull because she disintegrates his skin by putting her hand on his cheek, and then his skin starts to disintegrate, and now she's just holding his skull up close to her face and just smiling, the she unactivated her death eye, and everyone already saw it. And then her soulmate mark starts to burn and then they find out she's Neji Soulmate, LMAO.

'angry' would be an understatement to express how you had been feeling during these months...

Your clan was known to be one of the few strong clans that Konoha possessed. And rightly so, they needed strong people, always. You were trained since you were little, you were only four years old when your training began.

'Tough love' that's what your mother called it.

For your clan there was no room for soft and gentle touch, it's not that the people of your clan were inhuman or lacked empathy, it's simply that being a "strong" clan they were Konoha's first line of defense in case of an attack together with other clans. These clans along with yours were called

'The Kenji Clans'.

Your father fought when the nine-tailed fox appeared. Unfortunately, he was just as stubborn as your mother, and he just didn't know when to stop fighting. Eventually, your dad became bedridden with a disease that appeared because his chakra points were weak after that fight against the great beast, he died while you were still in your mother's womb.

You never met him, but you did get to know him and learn what his and your mother's relationship was like through stories.

You still remember the nights when your mother tucked you in your bed and if she was in a good mood she would tell you stories about your father. Your favorite story was the one about their first date.

For you, a 5-year-old girl, the meadow of flowers where they had gone to spend the evening and watch the sunset together sounded so enchanting.

But, nothing compared to the third date, the confession of two lovers under thousands of stars while sharing their first kiss sounded magical, almost like a fairy tale.

You wanted that one day. Finding your soul mate and feeling safe with that person…just like your mother once felt.

Your motivation for enduring the cruel training you were subjected to was that one day you would find that special someone and that you could rest easy, without pain or fear, in their arms.

Finally, feeling safe and appreciated, you just didn't care about their gender, much less their skin color, you just hoped to find your soul mate one day.

That's why you found it cruel to have the only thing you wanted to be taken from you, even though a part of you was okay with it.

“You…did what!?”, you tried to control your own anger, but you failed. You had barely arrived home from running errands only to find a very badly behaved Youth and other people with a bad temper. As soon as they left, your mother invited you to the living room to tell you the reason for the visit of those people.

The woman in front of you and the one who gave birth to you raised a thin eyebrow. "Why are you acting like that in front of your own mother? Besides, I thought you agreed with me."

Unfortunately, the massacre occurred that same night, so he could never keep his promise to come back.

There were so many better or worse stories than that.

There was one in which a boy from your clan discovered that his soul mate was a civilian, a simple baker from a humble family. Needless to say, for the young woman's safety, he decided not to stay by her side.

Although you could say that; that boy was still in love with that young woman despite having a wife and a son, he seemed not to be interested in his family. It was something sad and bitter to see him with a family, but always thinking and surely longing for that civil woman, something told you that one day he would have an 'adventure' with that baker.

Your mother, in order to avoid something like a "tragic fate", decided that it would be a good idea to get you married before you met your soul mate. Which was one of the many reasons you were mad at her, you didn't agree to get married, especially so young. You still had so many things to do!

But of course, in the eyes of your clan you would be seen as selfish for not wanting to get married...

Your desires... All your dreams no longer mattered and there was nothing to do to stop the anguish that was blooming every second in every part of your being.

Neji wasn't interested. keyword 'was', he no longer knew what to think as he watched the scene in front of him.

The only reason he had come to this engagement ceremony was because Hinata had asked him to accompany her, and he had to protect her in case something happened. As the daughter of the leader of the Hyuga Clan, Hinata had to occasionally attend important events when her father was not available. This was one of those occasions.

"C-come on, Neji...it won't be s-so bad!"

She had been trying to cheer him up with her sweet words, surely his face must have looked more serious and bored than usual this morning. She had been very thoughtful of her to want to cheer him up, but sadly it hadn't worked.

He further placed his muscular body protectively in front of Hinata, preparing to attack and defend in case an attack was directed at his cousin as he activated his Byakugan.

The named bride; "Y/N", had gotten out of control, she had killed her own husband after a silent argument that had occurred mid-vote and had only escalated until you just... well, you killed a few people with your ability just by looking at them. The decapitated bodies of various people adorned the place, ruining the pure and beautiful aesthetic for a more macabre one.

Before all that chaos happened, you looked so beautiful and virginal when you entered the main hall that even Neji's heart fluttered a little when he saw you.

But, he could not look at you or think about you in such an intimate way as it was to see you as something 'beautiful', because; First you were engaged to someone and it would be vulgar of him to think of you that way, and second this kind of thought and emotion was only supposed to be directed at his soul mate.

Now, as you hold the skull of your ex-fiancé and soon-to-be husband while maintaining a macabre smile, he wonders if it was just anger that made you act in such a vile way, or you were just like that, someone cruel who only disguised herself as a gentle being.

He has so many doubts in his mind, but he can't come to a conclusion, his only thought is to protect his precious cousin who is behind him.

He was about to finalize an escape plan to get out of this chaos until he feels a slight burning sensation on the left side of his neck that makes him grunt a bit, worrying the few people left alive around him.

Amidst all the commotion Hinata had asked him if he was okay, he was about to reply when you made a slight strangled sound as you held the left side of your neck dropping your ex-fiancé's skull.

When you finally removed your hand from your neck, Hinata gasped.

“She… y-you… N-Neji! You two have the same mark… you're soul mates!”

Okay, so I got some stuff to get off my chest cause lately I’ve seen a lot of people saying Sakura deserves more praise and people hate on her for no reason. And this is both true and false, coming from a person with a love and hate relationship for her character.

Now don’t get me wrong, Sakura got some pros like she one of the strongest female characters currently in Boruto. Hinata don’t count cause despite her background, she wasn’t really a fighter. She’s a great healer and she can throw some hands!

But she got a whole lot of cons as well. Like her relationship with Sasuke that Kishimoto wrote poorly! Now I know a lot people, especially SS fans, would argue. Naruto did the same! But the way he reacted was different. Sakura would rather destroy the world and in return watch Sasuke destroy himself if she left with him on his quest for vengeance.

Naruto put in all the work! Not Sakura SS fans, and Sakura got the leftovers! Honestly for her character to be about love, it messed her up. Because to me SS don’t have a true relationship. Just because the author wrote it, doesn’t make them soulmates.

Look at all those shojo isekai novels, where the character reincarnated in the story and got with main lead, despite what the author wrote!

They are not people who can stand on equal ground, cause Sakura will always bend over for whatever Sasuke says and not argue with him. Her love is not mature, cause to me she will always be stupid 12 year-old blinded by love.

Now before some of y’all point fingers and try to say, all girls who ship mxm are the same and hate the female love interests. That is not true. I love Ochako from My Hero and Emma from Tokyo Revengers. I also got no problem with Rin from Inuyasha!

There is a long list of female characters I like. Most of them come from One Piece. Ezra from Fairytail. When I was watching AoT, Mikasa! And one of my current faves Nobara from JJK! Orihime and Rukia from Bleach, despite me being on the RukiaIchi ship boat. I’ll accept Rukia and Ichigo ‘brother and sister’ argument than SNS BS one!

As much as I don't particularly enjoy canon Sakura, I do wish people wrote more about her being left behind basically all the time (because no matter how much people love her, she can't keep up with Naruto and Sasuke when Kishi has basically made them half-gods by the end of the series) and all that comes from that (as someone who used to cause trouble because I wanted people to remember about me, I know what it feels like to be forgotten)

Also I wish people wrote more about Sasuke never truly forgiving Itachi, because while I do love Itachi as a character he's far from a saint or a hero and people need to stop putting him on a pedestal and give Sasuke the anger he deserves

👿 What trope do you hate / avoid at all costs?

There aren't many tags I avoid at all costs, probably only scat and necrophilia? For every other tag it depends on the context of the fic, if it's well written I can read almost anything ngl

😍 What is your favourite fic trope?

Time travel fix-it is, by far, my absolute favorite trope to read about

Also the soulmates trope but only if it's not forced (example, "We have the same soulmark so we HAVE to be together no matter that we've only met 0.3 seconds ago" gets old fast for me, but a NaruSasu or SatoSugu kinda thing like, "you're my soulmate, my one and only, we've chosen each other against all odds and we will find each other again and again in every universe and every life" will never get old for me and it's my life and blood, no matter if it's platonic or romantic)

Another one yet that I love is enemies as lovers, as in "We're enemies but we fuck and I want no one else to kill you except for me but I WILL kill you if the situation calls for it" which is rare as a trope for me to find, since usually people write enemies TO lovers instead of enemies AS lovers, which is mostly how I imagine Ao/Shisui in my head ngl

uchiha sasuke. he's such a well written character.

he was born in one of the most prestigeous, if not the most, clan of konoha, the uchiha clan. he grew up in a lovely and affectionate family, having a brother that's proud of him, a mom that loves him, and a father that recognizes his talent and loved him as deeply as his mother, although he didn't showed it. one night, he came back to his house only to find his whole clan and his parents massacred, lying in a veritable bloodbath. and the murderer was no one else than the one he thought was truly loving with him, uchiha itachi. his brother. his inspiration. his model. itachi put him in a genjutsu where sasuke revived more than 500 000 times, triggering the buried feelings that the curse of his clan force him to feel. from then, he only created one bond with the one that was respectful enough to make sasuke smile : the nine tails demon receptacle and the failure of the village, uzumaki naruto.

at age 12, he literally sacrified himself to prevent naruto's death. but, thankfully, sasuke was alive.

during the chunin exams, some curse mark was put inside of him by no one else than one of the 3 legendary sannin, the one who acquired immortality and had an interest to the uchiha clan : orochimaru. since then, sasuke's one and only goal was to gain power to avenge his clan's honor and to kill his brother that he hated so much. he proceed to desert and betray his village. in a fight against naruto, he wanted to kill him to pulverize the only thing that was holding back, his friendship with naruto. but he couldn't resolve himself to kill his best friend, the only one that was silently here for him during these years.

2 years later, a certain uchiha madara told him the truth about his brother that he fought in a fight to the death. sasuke, not believing it at first, deduced later that all of this is konoha's fault, with the intention of destroying the village. with the help of madara, he then went straight to konoha to kill the temporary-named 6th hokage, shimaru danzo. he then saw his friends and his previous sensei that he fought. he attempted to kill her fellow, sakura, before she was saved by naruto, and naruto had a talk with him that he will save him from his hatred because he's his friend, which surprised sasuke. back some days before, he had a flashback of how his life would be different if he stayed at konoha alongside his best friend, which made him sad.

he was able to see his brother one more time, when he ressurected. itachi confirmed him that madara's story was true, and that he did all that for the village. he saw his brother dying by his eyes for the 2nd time.

on his final fight against naruto, both of them losed an arm. the most plausible theory on why he stayed with a destroyed arm is to show to the world, and to himself, how naruto did rescued him from this hatred and painful life. they're also platonic canonical soulmates, as naruto is the embodiment of the sun by being ashura's reincarnation, and sasuke is the embodiment of the moon by being indra's reincarnation.

overall, i'd say sasuke is the best naruto written character. he reflected how we would've react to the death of our family and feeling soooo helpless about him. i identify to him so much. he's my highest kin. i love this man. i will defend him and his actions even in my coffin.

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

ahhhhh. hm. you know. it's funny because i don't currently have a fic wip for naruto. and that's the first time i can say that in more than four years, which is wild & also very weird.

i do have a fic in another fandom i'm trying to finally wrap up and i can tell you that the Big Non-Reveal of this paranormal au is that the evil spirit which has attached itself to one of the characters was placed there by her uncle, that her entire family knew of its existence before she was given the house by her grandfather, moved in, and became possessed. the characters don't really need to know that her uncle is responsible. all that matters is that there is evil and they are going to save this girl from it, but i know (and now so do you) and it's important to me only because she was very close with her uncle and thought she could trust him but it turns out he's even more evil than the evil she's discovered in the house.

that's probably very confusing and i apologize but i don't think giving more detail about the fic matters too much, since no one has or will read it, ahaha. <3

since i didn't answer the last question with anything about kakashi or naruto, i will do so for this one:

Your blades clash together—the abrasive song of metal on metal ringing out against the trees; you can feel the reverberation of it through your forearms. You both press forward, digging your heels into the soft moss beneath your feet, leaning with all your weight. Water leaks up from the ground into your shoes. Your faces press close enough together that your nose touches the cool ceramic of his mask, your blades just barely biting into one another’s shoulders.

It happens when you first spill each other’s blood.

Both of you spring apart, screams tearing from your throats in unison as you clutch at your chests. When you open your eyes, you see your opponent across from you, the front of his cloak hanging open to reveal the new, twisted scar over his breastbone. One you know will mirror the knot of flesh over your own heart. You can feel it through your shirt, even if you can’t see it, yet, and the implication of its appearance punctures your soul.

You look at the man in front of you with panicked eyes, pulse racing furiously against your thoughts. “It’s you?”

i am still very enamored of the idea behind the strength of vines. this concept of soulmates that is rather ugly and painful instead of sweet or lovely. idk i think i was certainly driven to create this idea because (a) it's hard to come with new & different soulmate tropes and (b) love is fucking hard, y'all. there's nothing easy about it a;dfjsaf even if the universe somehow designated your perfect match for you, it would still take determination and strength and work. and i wanted to embody that concept the best i could.

the idea really only changed in that i expanded on the original, much smaller concept, making the scars sort of increasingly invasive as i developed the fic (which began as an original fantasy idea that i molded into a kakashi/reader because wtf else was i gonna do with it, ahaha). the scars became more gruesome, the way you got them more perilous (i don't remember when i decided oh they have to try and kill one another first! but i'm glad i did). the idea of this vine twisting itself through your body without your consent reminds me of love in lots of ways, the part of it that isn't always so romantic or rose-colored; the way it can take you over without you meaning to let it.

actually, it probably stems from the first thing i ever wrote about real actual love in my life (after my heart was broken) which was, in part:

... it crawled inside my chest, found my heart, and planted you there. it watered you, cared for you, until you grew too large for my chest and you spread. into my bones, up my spine to my brain where you took root in my thoughts and drowned out everything else until my body was no longer my own, just a vessel for you.

so i guess actually the idea of the bonded mark being a scar over your sternum makes a lot of sense; all the people we love leaves scars on our hearts. some are uglier, more twisted than others. but they're all there. and i like the idea that even if its ugly on the outside, what it represents--with enough time and care and nurturing--can be very beautiful.

i hope that makes at least a little bit of sense, ahaha. <3

Next is Kakashi - who's one of my favorites! - though I think this would would be more of a slow burn bittersweet story until his soulmate can slap some sense into him. After losing everyone he loves in the span of what? A decade? Or something like that? It can really mess with a person's love map and because of that I think Kakashi would really fight against the idea, at least for a time. I see him, honestly, looking forward to finding his as a child and really excited and happy about it until he finds his dad. That's where he'd fight against and even scorn the idea of having one and not just behind closed doors but publicly as well. Which of course would put him right against Obito's happiness for it. Then I think he'd really close himself off to the idea and him actually having one period after the war where he loses Obito and Rin with Minato and Kushina not too long after. If he did find his soulmate or they found him really, because he's not looking for them, it would be a hard road for them to get together and him accept he won't lose them too.

Lee. *brushes off hands* I rest my case! No, but, really, Lee would love to have a soulmate. After all the picking - kids can be so cruel! - and scorn because he can't use chakra we all know that even if it was platonic soulmates our youthful ninja would embrace that with open arms. I haven't thought much on him because while I love the theme and symbolism behind his character he's just not a personal favorite. (Cue the trash throwing!) Seriously though, just like Naruto, Lee would actively search for his soulmate and I think this would be a topic you stayed very, very respectful around him on. Soulmates are beautiful people and bring out the best in their partner, they are precious and to cherished deeply. And do not for a second think the boy won't throw fists if his own is being bad mouthed or disrespected in any way. 😤

Neji - where are my Neji stan fam?!?! - for me at least, would be another that would have a hard time accepting that there's someone out there for him. Would he secretly want one? Totally. Would he believe he deserved to have one? I don't think so, at least not until Naruto gives him a what for with his talk-no-justu. Afterwards, I see him starting to open up to the idea but very slowly. I don't think he'd be like Kakashi but he's not a Naruto or Lee either. It would take time to not only accept he has one, but if he finds them, that they'd actually love and care for him. His mate would really have to work and keep at him to break down those very high walls but when they do it'd be magical. They'd be so precious to him but - and this is just me - I see it being his soulmate who'd be the one throwing hands in regards to Neji. Am I right??

Honorable mention: Shikamaru. Here's my other big fav, the lazy genius himself. I had to add him despite this being so long already! I love my beautiful Nara sloth. So yeah, I was totally behind the Nara's Obsession idea. Total soulmate idea written right in!

Okay, so I was fully prepared to disagree with you when you said Kakashi, but I think you actually explained yourself well! Because you're right, Kakashi does not want a soulmate. He doesn't believe that there's someone for him. Maybe one day there was, but now, he's too damaged to have a meaningful relationship.

And I LOVE the idea of conflict between Kakashi and Obito because Obito can't wait to meet his soulmate, and Kakashi think that's stupid.

I think Kakashi would run from meeting his soulmate, but after the war, if his soulmate was stubborn enough, I think they would slowly become part of his pack, even though he resists them at every turn lol.

Lee can't wait to meet his soulmate! You're so right!

His desire is so genuine and pure. He goes completely red when he meets his soulmate, and he talks so fast, basically falling over himself to make a good impression. It's very cute! <3

I'm going to gently disagree with you here.

Neji is super interesting when it comes to soulmates, because of his beliefs in destiny. He probably does believe in soulmates, and he's fully expecting to marry his soulmate. He just doesn't expect to be that happy with the situation. He thinks his destiny is to serve to main family with an advantageous match.

To actually get a soulmate that's someone good for him? It knocks him off balance. He's suspicious for a while, I reckon.

But I don't think he's anti-soulmate at any point, mainly resigned.

But yes, you're so right that he gets a soulmate that protects him. Neji's soulmate is always ready to fight for his honour haha!

When Leia and Han agree they are better off as friends than lovers, Leia goes to Paz and asks for the right to duel him for courtship. Paz is floored, fully not understanding, but agrees.

After a hard fight, Leia wins. After agreeing to the courtship, Leia hauls Paz by the armor and kisses his helmet. He is a fucking mess, still trying to catch up with everything.

Din and Luke are considerably unhelpful- Luke too busy laughing his ass off and Din busy holding his lover up so he doesn't end up on the ground. Din also quips on a congratulations and Paz is like "VOD!" nearly tempted to sock Din a good one but also doesn't want to let go of Leia- who is very pleased with herself.

Ya'll heard of Consort Luke and Mand'alor Din but get ready for.... Diplomatic Husband Din with Prince Luke of Naboo. With arranged marriage trope!

Where Jedi and Mandalore are still around, Anakin doesn't turn to the Darkside but still fucks off from the Order to start his own and lives happily with Padme, and Leia is still a boss in the Senate (Will she end up with Han or get a Mando husband of her own? It is anyone's guess. Stay tuned). Luke lives on Naboo and serves there but is still a kick ass Jedi in his father's order. Every mando wants Din in their clan or wants him to fight for the Darksaber but he is just like 'leave me alone' so marrying him off is the only option to not start some infighting (don't worry, Luke chose him).

Hey, so I guess this is a bit about me. I put some basic info up top but here I’ll get a bit more in-depth. I try to be an open book. I have multiple disorders which I’ll list, keep these in mind if you decide to chat with me. I have ADHD, Agoraphobia, Anxiety (Social and Generalized), Borderline Personality Disorder, Delusion Disorder, DID, Insomnia, OCD, PTSD, and Nightmare Disorder. Due to this I struggle with paranoia sometimes and am not only kin but some are also IRLs and I have Alters due to the delusion disorder and DID. Anyways that enough of that information.

Other than that I enjoy playing games, writing, roleplaying stuff, and just meeting people. I’m into a lot of different sources so I’m sure we can find something to talk about, don’t hesitate to chat.

That was the shinsou route 😭😭

Oh my gosh, every part of it, I just.

I’m so glad you wrote it as you did, because that hesitance and fear and panic is just so relatable, that’s truly how I’d feel about it, could never go right into things, I’d have to have some sort of introduction stretched out to make me comfortable.

And the way you wrote shinsou doing that?????

You’ll make me cry, you really will. He was so gentle, and caring, and so honestly kind and understanding, and their whole relationship was so silly but so deeply sweet.

The way he talked to the reader after Mawata and the whole incident??? And the texts you sprinkled throughout everything?? It was all just so so cute and ridiculously delightful.

Every inch of it made me feel like I was molasses melting into a chocolate mold, it was so sweet and slow and perfect.

Oooh and the bits that mixed with the Aizawa route with the airport explosion and the call??? The call?? The stuff he talked about with Ito? I mean the entire conversation with Ito honestly was hilarious, his concerns about his own name being on him, the intricate detail about the special kanji in his name was so brilliant, and the ‘b*tch, you’re overthinking,’ it was all so amazing

The conversation with Eri was adorable, truly, but what ended up happening with the handwriting thing they noticed? And what happened with the glowing stuff on Shinsou btw?

THE NARUTO SOUNDTRACK BTW???? I physically can not that bit, I just.

‘His quirk ushered in spring cleaning’ I hope you know this metaphor made my heart feel like it’d just been mopped and everything was squeaky and clean and smelled like lemons and mint

The truth or dare thing was felt on such a deep level, sometimes I want to just rush into things to finally get it over with and others I just want to have had the experience without going through the experience, yknow?

The entire call with Shinsou and him finally exploding and telling the reader that it’s ~fine~ to not have had sex and everyone progresses through life at a different rate and it’s nigh impossibly and, bluntly, stupid to put a specific progress bar on it with little stamps on where a specific event must happen. It’s not some line graph to follow, not some game progression to align with, it’s life and it’s your own

That was a nice moment

Shinsous persisting but somewhat subtle sometimes feeling of being a burden and not really being worthy of love was just, abduiemf, that was a whole thing, I understand him so much but also he was so much just, not that it felt wild that he saw himself as such

I’m going feral I wanna know how it went from ‘ice princess’ to ‘baby’ the entire timeline I’m so mentally ill over the rivals to longtime friends to lovers

i'm so glad you brought up the aizawa route overlap!! it makes the aizawa route more romantic, i think, that aizawa wanted his soulmate reader close to him in the explosion, while allowing shinsou as replacement to be seperated during shinsou's route.,.,.,.bc aizawa's so focused on protecting his soulmate. ngl i miss him from last chapter.....,,.. and shinsou's kanji being chastity/honest is legit!! that's what hori uses, and while i get the honest part, i'm not really sure about the chastity part, unless it's supposed to be something like chastity as in abstaining from villainous behaviour with his quirk?? but that feels like a stretch. and ohhoho to have ito throw shinsou's own "you're overthinking" right back at him!!!

okay okay okay they did do the second tier tainted love stuff. it's a bit harder to discern in this route, bc this version of reader doesn't know what any of it is or what it means. in last chapter, the soulmate signal would usually come from reader's gut, so in this one, whenever emotions or words that didn't feel like reader's own words surfaced from her gut, that was the receiving end of the intensified soulmate trope dust. i figured that influenced monoma to use shinsou's quirk, reader's "don't be nervous" actions under his quirk, for the gang at the club to play truth or dare (with shinsou not wanting to play it until the word "cliche" is brought up), for the focus on shinsou during the game, for reader and shinsou getting smushed together on a loveseat that no one else can fit on, for her getting jealous and wanting to be marked by him, for the phone call (even though reader low-key regrets it immediately), and how the phone call stuff unfolded, down to her needing shinsou's help. i don't think shinsou realised that reader had genuinely heard all of the conversation with ito about the soulmate thing, though. i think he just thinks he left his phone on, since reader didn't say anything.

the handwriting thing was originally going to be a bigger deal, but i believe i just have a throwaway line in the monoma-is-helping-search section about how we couldn't find matching handwriting? if not, i may have to go back to add that 😬

lololol the dom hype playlist was either gonna be abba songs or the naruto soundtrack, and i thought naruto was better for going into battle/your crush's room

yes yes i see a lot of fics in which characters have sex just to get it over with, so the fact that shinsou is cool with not having the same timeline as everyone else feels so gentle to me. feels like he's handling us with care. and he's deserves to be handled with care as well, even though he doesn't believe he should be???? he's so lovable and lovely, and he doesn't think of himself that way :( baby boy :(

i legit figure that shinsou and reader went from disliking each other to being friends just through like. one or two conversations. bc they've been relying on what other people have said/observed about each other, so when they actually interact they're like oh 👀 really quickly lololololol

but oh my gosh thaaaaaaank you so much???? for feeling deeply about the "his quirk ushered in spring cleaning"??? for being able to relate to reader's insecurities and experiences???? for appreciating and loving shinsou???? for liking the silly confession??? you're beautiful. you're spectacular. and i love YOU. i hope i can continue to meet your expectations :) xx.
