I DREW MY OC TOAST AAAAAA
The folks at XPPen sent me the XPPen Deco Pro (Gen 2):
Tumblr media
XPPen is having its 18th anniversary, and is celebrating with sales and product promos, so it's worth checking those out.
My thoughts on the tablet (and purchase links) under the cut!
⭐ Review ⭐
First impressions: After unboxing the tablet, I thought it sleek and professional-looking, especially after setting it up with my PC.
The remote I LOVED right out of the box because I enjoy fiddling with buttons and wheels. The keys are super satisfying to press.
The pen and storage case are nicely complete, lots of spare nibs to switch out (though I mainly stuck to the default nib while drawing, the textured ones have a nice gritty feel similar to paper).
I had some troubleshooting when I started, as connecting to Bluetooth wasn't happening with either the tablet or the remote. I tested the Bluetooth connection with a different device and my phone successfully, but couldn't with my work PC. I was promptly helped by XPPen Support, and it turned out to be a Windows update messing things up, so I uninstalled it and Boom; I could connect both the tablet and remote, no problem. Up until then, I used both via cable, which was a convenient option!
The tablet: The XL model at 15 x 9 inches, with plenty of space to work (although you'll need space to put it, luckily I have a lot of desk to spare), and can connect via cable or Bluetooth. It also looks so dang pretty.
The tablet was so smooth, and the pressure (16k pressure levels) felt amazing to draw with. After fiddling around with the pen settings, I barely had to press down to get a nice flowy line.
I usually work on a screen tablet, so it took some getting used to returning to a pen tablet and looking at my PC screen again, but it came back to me quickly. It actually helped my posture, as I tend to shrimp-curl over my screen tablet while working.
As lovely as it was to work on, I feel this size may be too large for me, despite it being perfectly proportional to my PC screen. I like to draw quickly, and I noticed myself making more effort to travel over the surface of the tablet and tiring my arm out faster than usual. I needed to take more breaks and stretch often, although I could classify that as positive. That said, this tablet has a sloped resting area that helped. All my drawing tablets have been medium-sized, so I'm probably just conditioned to that surface area.
The battery lasted as long as it took to draw this piece and more! I didn't need to charge it the entire time.
The remote: I love this thing so much. It has ten shortcut keys and a wheel you can configure to your heart's desire. Five sets of key functions!!! That's fifty shortcuts!! I only configured four sets and struggle to memorise them, but it's very convenient. I have my keyboard right next to the tablet and would bang out shortcuts there, but this remote changed my life.
I've been using it for a month now, and it still hasn't needed charging!
The pen: Comfy to use, with a design I was already accustomed to, and one thing I noticed was that the nib wasn't scratching the heck out of the tablet. After all the drawing I did with it, not a single mark.
I LOVE popping the case open to retrieve or store the pen, and it's one of those physical things that I find satisfying and so rare with digital products. I thought it would be nice to have a pen stand too, but I have pet birds that will (and have) run away with my tablet pens, so a storage case is a strong solution.
Final thoughts: This is a solid tablet with the potential to become an essential tool for industry professionals and freelancers. I didn't think I could be convinced out of a screen tablet, but I was offered a super strong contender. I can confidently recommend it, plus my experience with support was a positive one that boosted my trust in the brand. Overall, I had a great time using this tablet and really appreciate the opportunity I've been given to try it out!

2023.
i hope any of you reading this will forgive the essay. i started posting to this art blog ten years ago in 2013 when i was just at the very end of high school, uploading short animations i'd made for one of my final projects, preparing myself for art school where i was gearing up to become an illustration/animation student.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i went into my art foundation course in 2014, still thinking i was going to be going into storybook illustration or with faint hopes of becoming like a concept artist for game/animation, although even then i'd started thinking about patterns...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then in 2015 i did go into my BA, going in for that illustration with animation degree that... usually when i talk about it in real life, i say didn't really feel like the best place for me. if i think back, the best things i got out of it were two of my best friends, one of whom is now my partner. looking back on my BA era, there's some bits of sketchbook stuff...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and while i was at university my main fandoms were thunderbirds are go and x-men for a bit... these are from the end of 2015 into the beginning of 2016...
Tumblr media
then for a little while i was doing this still sort of pastel-ish lineless situation:
Tumblr media
and i alternated between that and this thin fineliner type work (pretty sure all of the linearted pieces were done on paper and scanned, and all the lineless were graphics-tablet-only) - it was in this style that i started to offer commissions for the first time too.
Tumblr media
and i also had fineliner-lined work in sketchbooks that i coloured with marker and posca pens, the colours of which were generally a bit more intense just based on not being able to slide the hue/saturation around on paper:
Tumblr media
also 2016 was when i discovered the spongebob musical just after it's trial run in chicago (which ended in july of 2016) and i started making fanart at that point... which would have the biggest effect on the way i drew (and i did end up handing in a piece of spongebob musical fanart as one of my art school homeworks lmao)
from summer 2016 until early 2017 things were still quite soft and pastelly in my digital art, colour-wise:
Tumblr media
and then suddenly everything got whacked up to 100% on saturation. also i was using the binary tool to give everything really thin pixel lineart for some reason.
Tumblr media
then i went on vacation in summer 2017 and didn't draw for maybe a month? just short of? and when i came back i decided to change everything up again... giving characters blobbier, more ugly-cute faces with large squinting eyes and big nostrils and i was worrying a lot less about making anything look smooth, lineart-wise. i turned off the pen stabiliser in SAI and let it wiggle.
Tumblr media
then... the spongebob musical opened on broadway in late 2017, i went to see it live in person for the first time... and my whole brain was ENTIRELY consumed by my love of it. i was putting that david zinn inspired pattern explosion into everything, even if it wasn't sbm fanart.
Tumblr media
as we go into 2018, i started colouring my lineart. my biggest interest was still broadway musicals (with spongebob at the top of the list)
Tumblr media
i think summer 2017 - early 2018 is probably my favourite art era, i was at my most bright and colourful and exciting... although i know in my actual real life i was struggling a lot with my home situation and i had been for some time. art was definitely my escapism back then, and i think a lot of the time i drew really bright, joyful stuff to try and inject that feeling into myself.
as for my university work, i was putting my focus into 3D paper-mache puppets:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i was also starting to do more repeat patterns, mostly inspired by things around me. i'd learned how to make patterns actually tile and repeat in 2017, so made a few during my time at uni just to accompany some of my projects, but never as the focus of them. one of my university tutors told me that maybe i should put more focus on doing surface pattern, and maybe applying it to textiles, but i said i wasn't interested.
Tumblr media
i graduated from my BA in the summer of 2018, and immediately began volunteering at the whitworth art gallery doing anything i could - stewarding, helping with arts and crafts, dancing with families...
in 2019 i was still very colourful... i was trying out more chunky colouring on characters skintones that i think was def inspired by tumblr artist jadenvargen:
Tumblr media
but the blobbyness and ugly-cute style of drawing faces was gone by here, and i think... the way i drew characters probably had better *anatomy*, proportions were maybe a bit more realistic...
in 2020 i started adding the black shading to under the chins and some other places on characters' bodies because i started watching the anime my hero academia with my brother, lmao (and i was starting to pastelise colours a bit again, these are the most pastel-ish examples) my lineart has really smoothed back out too, though i never turned my pen stabiliser back on in SAI. i think my hand just adjusted. probably seems a bit insane to miss that, but i do.
Tumblr media
by the end of 2020, the almost-year of lockdown over cobid had... made me a bit insane, i think, and i moved out of my mother's house and into a flat with a friend from university.
in 2021 i think things were much the same... i think from this point on is where things have sort of settled. i don't want to say stagnated, but i do think things have been very... like this for a while.
Tumblr media
2022 - got the most exciting examples out...
Tumblr media
also i was very into these little frames in 2022.
Tumblr media
and then on to 2023! in 2022, i did begin trying to shift gears a bit -- hoping to put more energy into sewing and making products (like my tutor has suggested back in uni, even though i'd really resisted the idea.) i sold at a few in-person markets during winter of 2022, but got disheartened by the amount of money i had to sink in up front to sign up for a spot...
Tumblr media
which has made me VERY grateful for the people who have supported me via online sales. it has really helped me stay afloat in 2023 - AND it has felt more wonderful than i can describe that there have been people interested in my work... especially when a lot of it has been my original designs, rather than the fanart that i expect a lot of people initially followed me for.
i've also... in the past 2 years... branched out a bit more when it comes to 'being an artist' - and have had the opportunity to deliver arts & crafts workshops with local refugee & asylum seeker support charity, afrocats. it's taken me to their home base in a church to hotels across the city where asylum seekers were temporarily placed while waiting on their new homes, and of course to my beloved whitworth art gallery, where we welcomed visitors from all backgrounds: from the typical white middle class visitors the gallery usually expects, to all the refugee visitors coming into the space for the first time.
Tumblr media
and through my volunteering at the whitworth, i showed up so often they decided they might as well pay me. so i've also become a facilitator of... creative play sessions, my favourites of which have been outdoors. monthly, year-round, we have 'outdoor art club', where i get to paint with mud and make potions from leaves with kids & families - here you can see me tell you a little bit about it in this video below with 'crempog' a puppet character that makes videos about activities for kids and families around manchester (my bit starts at 01:10 although i am in the intro and thumbnail haha)
youtube
and then of course the summer 'PLAYTIME' activities we've had the past two years: scrap studio in 2022, and play market in 2023. it's the best freelance gig ever -- just to hang out and encourage families to be creative and have fun.
youtube
youtube
in working more in these new avenues... outside of being - as i've called myself for a long time - "an internet artist"... i've found myself more interested in this sort of thing. in being a "real world artist" too. in doing surface pattern design, and being a workshop facilitator, i find myself wanting to put more energy into these sorts of projects.
in 2023 i've also dabbled a little bit more in youtube videos! i have had a channel for a while and have made videos in previous years, but 2023 has been the year i've done the most in. admittedly most of them haven't been about my art, and more just like... random things that interest me (the spongebob musical in particular) but i've really been enjoying video editing. that's kind of an art form too, so i'm including it here!
Tumblr media
moving forward, want to keep putting even more of my energy into other things. my shop, with a bigger range of products to offer. workshops in real life, where i can make a difference.
as for my art blog... i feel like i've done the least drawing in many years in 2023, and... well, things have been weird and complicated for a bit in my real life. i hope to draw for fun a bit more again very soon, and to return to doing things in more of a wild and crazy way, to be more creative and exciting with the way i draw things. still, here's some of my favourites from 2023:
Tumblr media
thank you so much to everyone who has borne witness to my art journey this past decade!!! i hope you will stick with me, who knows, maybe for another 10 years if tumblr holds out. especially a big thank you to everyone who has ever commissioned me, or bought anything from my store, you literally keep me able to make art at all and i cannot, cannot, cannot overstate how much it means to me.
i'm moving homes soon, possibly into very cramped temporary conditions for a little while before HOPEFULLY starting my real life with my partner. if i can take one more moment to plug my work, then [here is a link to my online shop] and [here is my ko-fi page too.]
cheers, cheers, cheers!

Hi I just wanted to say I love your art sm and you actually helped me get back into drawing a ton, for a while I had this weird idea in my brain that I HAD to draw semi realism/realism otherwise every man I drew would be horribly twinkified and I'd never be able to draw the characters I liked, but I just drew my first ever man I'm happy with in a style that isn't semi realism and a lot of it was inspired by the way you don't always close your lines w lineart and don't use a ton of pen pressure sensitivity and your art comes out incredible. Those were things I always did but would try to stop doing because people told me they were stuff you "weren't supposed to do" and it just ended with me being frustrated whenever I drew and hating my art. But seeing you do it and make absolutely gorgeous stuff really gave me that confidence to just say fuck it and do it anyways and I'm starting to actually get in the flow of drawing again, so thank you :)
This is so so cool! I struggled for About Ten Years with not being able to line in a way I liked, and I’m so glad that my way of doing it is inspirational to someone else! I hope you figure it out faster than I did haha.
Style wise, it kinda just happens, I don’t think many people fit super neatly into boxes anyway, so don’t stress over it, I definitely don’t know what my style is defined as haha! I thought it was semi realism til I googled it HAHA. I copied artists like makani and coey, reapersun and loish when I was a teenager and it definitely swayed my style!
Also I relate extremely to not really vibing with how other artists do lines. For me personally I THINK its because I think in shapes and not lines, and I started out painting and working in tone. Like real life doesn’t have lines, and when you paint it’s generally just varying between soft and hard edges, using the colour and tone to do the lifting for you. It’s way harder to figure out where to put a line, or what things need a line and what doesn't, if you’re not used to thinking that way.
I definitely ink more like I paint, kind of thinking about planes and shadow or overlap more than the outline? Like I draw the top curve of the cheek, then the jowl, then the chin, it kind of feels like cutting a 3D shape out in the space…? But I think that’s why mine are often choppy haha. In traditional art I always preferred a square brush, which carries over to my preference for minimal width variation on tablet.
Tumblr media
Saying that, I *do* sometimes work more with width, though it's still messy and choppy haha. my trick with those is that I always choose a brush that has a fairly consistent minimum width, I can draw with a fairly fixed line, but also press down a little to get the variation when I want it. (As opposed to brushes that kind of go really thin and really thick with little effort, like a brush pen, I just don't have the control...) Below are my main blobby inkers, I can pretty comfortably draw a fixed width face, but I can make it wider if I want.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway I went off on a tangent, I hope you can make art in ways that feel natural to you! And I hope making art brings you joy!
Some artists I love the lines of are linnea sterte, steven sugar, momopachi, jadenvargen, artharakka, beidak-art, pien-art, wombrion!

Anakin teasing you for having a crush on him.
WC: 300
CW: fluff
AN: i wrote this in like 5 mins cause i couldn’t sleep with it banging around in my head. just thought it was cute ok ☺️
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You find him when he’s working alone, shyly asking him to sign you off on something for your training. He takes your datapad and reads over the evaluation sheet, humming to himself and then looking you over with a sly smirk. “I don’t know…” he teases, narrowed gaze returning to the tablet. “Have I seen you complete all of these?”
“Oh— I—“ you just assumed he’d sign off since you had proven over and over you were more than capable of completing the tasks. You didn’t realize he’d actually wanted to witness you do everything on the list.
“I’m just joking,” he chuckles at your startled expression. “Here,” he pens his signature onto the data pad and hands it back.
You’re smiling like an idiot as you tuck the datapad under your arm, rocking back on your heels. “Thank you,” your chest fills with fuzzy warmth at his unsaid approval, the praise in his eyes — your pulse, already bounding, begins to hammer in your veins.
He nods in acknowledgement, then raises a brow. “Your heart is beating really fast.”
“Oh— yeah, I’m not sure why…”
“You okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m good,” you say quickly, cheeks flooding with heat as a knowing smirk crosses his features.
“Is is it me? Am I making you nervous?”
“No—“ your heart starts beating even faster, and you don’t know if he can hear it or feel it, but he winces.
“Geez, okay, relax,” he chuckles. “Seriously. Take some deep breaths.”
You’re so embarrassed there are tears in your eyes, but you’re too enraptured by him to care. “I’m good,” you repeat again, and huff a breath like he said. Your feet are retreating toward the door, desperate to breathe cooler oxygen outside since somehow the air in here has turned sweltering.
“See ya Anakin,” you chirp quickly, like that whole interaction was normal.
Nothing about your feelings for him are normal, and you both know it.

work in progress
I’ve been working on this drawing, sleep-deprived and with many cups of coffee. Was not in the best mood but had a good work flow. But then it happened, the nib of my Apple Pen broke off as I accidentally dropped it to the ground. I was so mad… I’ve tried to continue drawing on the ipad, with my fingers, almost had an inner meltdown of frustration. Went to the gym to compose myself, didn’t helped much, was still angry with myself.
Much later I remembered that i still have my old rusty tiny little wacom bamboo tablet. Well it’s not the perfect condition but better than nothing. Feeling myself motivated again to continue.
-> Oh and the ironic thing with this is that I’ve been imagining scenarios where students in the HP universe break their wands on accident or through clumsiness, finding it funny, giggling to myself. I was kinda like: “Oh yeah, that silly moment when Ron broke his wand, lol” Until my clumsy, sleep-deprived ass accidentally breaks it’s own
“muggle artist wand” (aka apple pen).
RIP comrade 💐 🪦 🫡
P.S: Thank you guys!
I would like to thank you very much for your kind words. I’m quite overwhelmed, I haven’t expected to receive so much kindness and encouragement.
To be honest, being an HP fan was something I did quietly, mostly in private for myself, brooding over my art and headcanons, collecting merch. There were hardly any people around me with the same interest in HP, and I also was too reserved to look around online any further. This is the first time I'm starting to interact more directly with other HP enthusiasts.
I’m very touched that other people showed interest in my art.
Drawing Sev is for me all about expressing my love towards him and i try to do him justice by portraying him in such a way that he feels real to me. And also that it makes me happy when I look at the drawing later.
I wanted to end by saying that I'm relaxed about ships, I don't reject anyone based of their fandom preferences or OCs. I also have my own OC, of course. I’m cool with almost everything as long i can see Sev. Especially when i can see this beautiful overgrown bat.
Really, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support. Hugs and thanks for reading. 💋
(editor me: by Merlin, that bisch wrote an entire novel lol)

YAAAY i got a new laptop ♡ if you guys didn't know, my keyboard on my laptop broke halfway through august and became unusuable in october, so i've been drawing directly on my laptop screen. so it was essentially a tablet. and every 15 min the pen pressure would cut out so i would have to restart my laptop. it was horrible. that's why all my art has been.. just sketchy? anyway. i can use my art tablet again ^_^ so expect more finished stuff!!
i'm using this opportunity to make some supercyber refs for a project i wanna work on.. here's rui to start :3

I can see this being part two of an older post about Wukongs' treasure room. I want to talk about everything I have learned about this mountain and Wukongs' home. From real life, the show, and the novel. Each has similarities but also differences. Luckily my Wacom tablet pen is back to working so I made slides again. :)
The Part 1 old post is partly based off of.
To start with the real-life mountain is actually a preserve that you can visit. With amazing wildlife and places to explore and see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now we can look into the show's version of the mountain. Lots of colors and amazing aerial shots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Wukongs Hut home I had some thoughts and notices.
Tumblr media
I also looked at the Brotherhood's Dinner scene and table.
Tumblr media
See the separation of the flooring, the pillars have a specially shaped base and ornaments and decor in between each column.
Tumblr media
Now for the Novel version.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can see a lot of difrences and similarities between all three of these mountains and homes. :)

How to have a productive study session.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When your finals are in 2 days, and you've definitely NOT studied enough, it's normal to panic. You sit down to study and get a solid 30 minutes of calculus done, then jump down the rabbit hole called YouTube. Soon enough the dread creeps up because you're still not done.
As a girl who doesn't attend school regularly due to coaching classes I go to (I'll expand on this later), it's pretty easy to forget to study for exams and projects.
But there's nothing better than getting 98% on that exam. So I'm writing this as someone who's been scoring straight As all my life. Here's how to have a productive study session:
Note: This isn't a guide for romanticising studies. This is meant for a serious, productive session. I will, however, be making a guide to help romanticise studies because I've found it helps a lot.
Before you study
Identify what your distractions are: Let's be real, almost everyone has their phone on hand during study sessions. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb and keep it in a corner of the room. Add a few selected contacts that can reach you while your phone is on DND. If you can turn off notifications entirely, do that.
Taking measures: After I keep my phone away, my brain turns to the next thing it could be distracted by. My laptop and tablet. Put those devices in focus mode, so you won't be tempted to use any other apps and use a Chrome extension like StayFocused or WasteNoTime to not get sidetracked.
Resources: Make sure you have all your material on hand. Video lectures, notes, guides, your formula sheet, and flash cards. Keep everything on hand so you won't have to rifle through papers to find that reference sheet.
Your space: Clean your desk. Keep only the things you need. Your pens and pencils, chargers, annotation material and water bottle. If you want, light a candle. Do not clutter it unnecessarily. Your desk is a sacred space. Treat it that way.
When you sit down
The checklist: Do you have all the material required? Electronics, chargers, a snack and a drink? Water bottle? Extra pen? If you have everything beforehand, you'll be less likely to lose focus because you forgot to charge your headphones.
Make a plan: I cannot stress this enough. You'll sit down and just start studying, and next thing you know, it's 7pm and all you've done is watch videos on celebrity drama. Make a goddamn plan. Write down a realistic number of chapters you can complete and then STICK TO IT.
Begin: Reread and review your notes. I usually like to rewrite my notes in neater handwriting, because my handwriting in class is appalling. To really solidify information, I recommend the 'Blurting' method. Read a paragraph, then close the book and say what you understood out loud. Reread to see what you missed and take note. I did this for my history exam and got a 100%. This shit works for a reason. Use the Pomodoro technique to maximise productivity. Set an alarm for 25 minutes, and do intensive study. Once that's done, take a 5-minute break. Return and repeat.
IMPORTANT
Take a break: Ah yes, if you don't get up every 40 minutes or so for a break, eventually whatever you're studying will start looking like garbage and you'll be back to square one. GET UP. Walk around. STRETCH. You've been looking like a croissant🥐. Eat something. Rehydrate.
Forgive yourself: If you couldn't hit your target, don't be harsh on yourself. Find out the cause: Were you distracted? Did something unavoidable come up? Then try to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Study buddy: This is a double-edged sword. Studying with a friend can either increase your productivity by a massive amount, or it can help you get absolutely zero work done. When revising with a friend, make sure you study with someone who has the same goals as you and won't get distracted by things.
It's 2023, procrastination is cancelled. Go drink some water, eat a granola bar and finish that assignment you've been delaying. Be the person who finishes all their work, on time and perfectly. You can do it.

Winter is Coming - Rekindled schedule adjustment and plans for next year!
So it's that time of year now when conventions, markets, and expos for next year are rolling out their submission periods. So far I've gotten accepted to attend the Atlantic Entertainment Expo again (both venues so two shows), MiraCon, and I'm gonna be attending not one, not two, but THREE tattoo expos ! Which is definitely a lot, but I'm excited, it's gonna be good publicity and good money :' ) I'm also gonna be applying to HalCon, Geekquinox, and Animaritimes again, I didn't get in on HalCon this year and didn't find out about Geekquinox until submissions were done (and I only got in on Animaritimes at the last minute when they were looking for people to fill in) but if I do get into any (or all) of those, I'll have to play the fun game of "make sure none of these events land on the same weekend" LMAO
All that's to say, it's gonna be busy next year! (and all of those are the ones I actually decided to apply to, there are ones I did this past year that I'm not planning on doing again because they just didn't turn out to be as good as I had hoped). Thankfully, none of this is starting up until spring, so I'm gonna enjoy the winter off and get to work on new stuff to sell. I'm really eager to get through the rest of [AFTERBIRTH], it's still got quite some time until it's done but my plan is to pitch Thread of Fate to publishers once [AFTERBIRTH] is finished - and if it's not able to get in with those publishers, then I'm gonna pursue other means in getting it published, either digitally or traditionally. Time Gate is a series I've been working on for well over a decade of my life, and it's not something I want to keep throwing to the wolves of free-to-read platforms like WT. As much as I love being able to offer it for free, I want it to be taken more seriously than being just another free to read comic and that starts with me and how I choose to distribute it.
Right now working on all these things is sort of limiting due to the fact that I'm stuck on my iPad, but I'm making it work as best I can and I'm hoping to have the new PC setup going by the end of the year running with a new tablet (currently shopping around between an XP-pen and Huion, I don't want to get a Kamvas 22 Plus again if it's gonna shit the bed in 2 years like this one did, apparently this is a common problem from what I've seen :/)
So yeah, with all that in mind, I'm planning on adjusting Rekindled's update schedule. While I did initially want to offer a poll for y'all to choose between "shorter updates once a week" and "full updates once every 2 weeks", frankly I'm erring more towards the "every two weeks" one because it'll give me more actual time and room to work on everything else. Not to mention (and I'm sure you've all noticed by now) that I have a very specific way that I structure many of these episodes so making them shorter would sort of ruin that rhythm. I don't want to be sacrificing the comic's quality, pacing, or narrative progression for a schedule adjustment.
This isn't going to be an immediate change, I'm thinking of doing this sometime in December so that y'all can have a decent amount of heads up before the switch. I know it's gonna be a little painful to go to a slower release schedule but ultimately I think it's the best way to go so that I can balance all of the projects I have going on without sacrificing quality. Rekindled may be a free to read non-profit project, but I still hold myself to high standards and I want to do my best to deliver on those standards !
Thank you all so much for your patience and support. It seriously blows me away to see all of the wonderful comments, asks, and support for what I do here every day. I'm gonna do my best as well to respond to asks in my inbox as they come in, but please just know I get a LOT of them on a regular basis, it's sort of a Hydra situation where I respond to 1 or 2 and then get 4 more LOL That said, rest assured that I do read and appreciate each and every one of them <3 That also includes essay posts about LO, with LO returning in November I'll surely have more stuff to say about it so I'm gonna try and keep up as best I can :' )
On a final note, we're coming up to the one year anniversary of when I started posting actual episodes of Rekindled!! I'm so excited for this, I can't believe it's been a year!! And I have so much awesome stuff planned for the story that we're gonna see throughout the next year, I can't wait! Thanks so much for being a part of this project with me, I couldn't have asked for a better audience <3
(P.S. everything I have lined up for next year is lining up with the dry period for FF XIV between Endwalker and Dawntrail so I won't have distractions until the summer LMAOO)

for a while since i got into transformers 3 years ago and i loved the franchies instiantly even since i was a kid especially the designs of transformers and Seeing fan arts and fan Designs and fans make thire own continuity made me me want to start learning to draw when im ready but i don't know how to draw cybertronians so do you have any tips and advices for someone who want to learn to draw transformers characters both Traditional & digital art?
Biggest advice I can give is: "Break a character apart into simple components!"
Drawing bots is honestly not that difficult, I find it much easier than people because you can more easily break a character apart into simplified blocks.
When it comes to designing characters it can take a few times to get one you're happy with so doing lots of basic sketches can help. References are always useful too! Every artist uses references.
Here's how I do it (In this case I'm doing an alt design for tfe Nightshade):
(It's not a definitive guide as you kinda have to figure out what works best for you both in terms of technique and art style. I'm aware my art style is definitely not for everyone, as it veers more on the cartoony side. I've had comments about how my faces all look effed up etc XD)
Initial sketch
Tumblr media
Break a bot down into basic shapes, circles and sausage shapes for more rounded characters and boxes for squarer ones. I normally start with the head and draw the rest of the body down from it (torso and arms then legs then any back kibble that might be visible) Think of it like the protoform beneath the armour.
To help with figuring out a pose I'll often use my toys. It can help you visualise where their arms and legs etc go along with whether part of a bot is actually visible from a certain angle. For example in this case:
Tumblr media
(Yes that's my cat chilling in the background)
This can help you to figure out if a certain design can pull a given pose, for example would a bot with kibble on their hips or arms be able to move their legs or arms a certain way. I used POTP Elita one as a reference for my SG Megatron a lot for example as they've got very similar builds. But this is not essential.
(There are mannequin apps on mobiles etc. you can use to help with pose references too, and image searches are always useful for references.)
For more dynamic poses it helps to think about how the character is moving, so add a curve to the torso/spine to add to any implied motion etc.
Details
Tumblr media
Once I'm happy with the basic shape and pose I typically add the armour over the top. Again the head is usually the first bit I do. You can see I got a bit lazy with their left hand and just did a scribble here XD
Inking
Tumblr media
Normally when inking I do the edges of each armour piece first then add any details on afterwards in a finer pen. Generally I'll do one body part at the time eg. fully ink the arm before doing the head etc. Its best to make sure you do parts that are in front first!
Here's the finished picture:
Though it'll need some digital cleaning up at another time.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
As for digital art...
I can't really give much advice on starting a drawing digitally as I never quite got the hang of it (colouring and corrections I do digitally but all my line art is traditional), I need the feedback of a pen in my hand and pressure on the paper to get it right.
These days the Hardware I mainly use is a refurbished huion art tablet (it was about £120 when I bought it) that's probably the cheapest your going to find a graphics tablet with a screen. BUT it's really not essential to get one especially if you're just starting out. Basic graphic tablets without a screen (just a pen and a pad) are much cheaper or you can use a mouse. I used a mouse for ages when I was first starting out.
In terms of software, for colouring and edits on the PC I use GIMP (I've been using it since like 2009 so I'm not really going to change any time soon!). It's freeware software and can do a lot of stuff, but it's user interface isn't the most user friendly especially if you're not familiar with graphics software but there are plenty of tutorials available for it. I'll try to remember to make a post showing how I use that another time :) as I'm not at my computer at the moment.
There are plenty of alternative image manipulation/graphics software to use as well, some free, some free but with ads, and some paid for (either one off payment or subscription). It's best to see what other artists have to say about them though as I've never really used them!

Crime writer Tony actual assassin bucky,
I am so bad at crime rest in pieces Tony lmao.
Tony sort of... falls into writing accidentally. Rhodey joins a book club in college and Tony joins with him because he's codependent and after the first three books, they read a frankly abysmal adaption of the Black Dahlia murder. Unfortunately, Tony is the best at working out of spite, so as soon as 'man, even I could write a better and more respectful novel than this,' it just sort of... happens. Rhodey is the first person he shows, nervous and antsy. Rhodey has the best poker face Tony's ever seen, even better than Howard and Obie's. He had no idea what Rhodey thinks of it. Finally, Rhodey looks up at him, and he says, "This was really good, but it could be better. I'm giving it to the book club." Tony wails in dismay because he's a perfectionist when it comes to showing things off, but Rhodey drags him to book club kicking and screaming, because they're mostly English majors and they'll have more insight than he does. The book club rips it to shreds, but they tell him exactly why, and his second draft barely has any red marks on it at all when they read it. While Tony's in college, he publishes his novels under a pen name, and his book club are his editors. Once he graduates, he starts publishing under his own name, with part of the proceeds going into two non-profits--a book club and a writers workshop for underprivileged youth.
Bucky's descent into serial killing is not an accident at all. One of his sisters is beaten almost to death by her boyfriend, and when the guy only gets a slap on the wrist by the courts because it's his first offense, Bucky makes him disappear. The only other person who knows is Steve, mostly because they're so close he would have found out anyway. Luckily, the most Steve ever says about it is, "Don't tell me anything. I'm a bad liar." He figures part of it is because Steve had been with him when they'd found his sister bleeding and unconscious on her apartment floor. He'd seen Steve's jaw clench at the hearing when the guy was let off on probation. His rage that the system was failing someone who had almost been murdered by an intimate partner. Steve had decided to throw himself into getting laws changed, harsher sentences. It was slow going. It was probably the only reason he turned a blind eye when Bucky decided to take a more... hands on approach.
Tony and Bucky, miraculously, meet when Bucky sneaks into his apartment. Or, well, "meet." Tiberius had just been let off assault charges simply because he was rich, and Tony hadn't gotten a chance to change the locks because he was in the hospital recovering from being strangled. Bucky had meant to sneak in and kill Tiberius while Tony was still at the hospital, so he'd have an alibi. But apparently Tony had signed out of the hospital against medical advice to avoid the press, and Bucky had snuck into his apartment to find Tiberius backhanding him to the ground. So he simply stepped further into the apartment and snapped Tiberius's neck. Clean. Efficient. Fast enough that Tony, dazed and bleeding from a head wound again, wouldn't realize it. "Let's get you cleaned up," Bucky says gently, helping Tony to his feet. "But Tiberius--" Tony starts, lip bleeding as well. "He's sleeping," Bucky assures him, and helps Tony to the bathroom to clean him up. Calls a friend to come sit with him because he's adamant he's not going to the hospital. Gets him tucked onto the couch with a milkshake and an old sci-fi movie in the background. Grabs Tiberius by the scruff to drag him out. "So dinner? Tomorrow? With me?" Tony slurs, blinking doe eyes at him. "Sure," Bucky agrees, good-natured, and expects to never see him again.
"So," Tony says, tablet and stylus in hand. "What's the easiest way to kill somebody." "We are at my job," Bucky complains immediately, grabbing him by the arm to drag him over to the antique book section. "How did you find me?" "I'm Tony Stark," Tony says, and then, "Also I follow Steve on Instagram and there are pictures of you with him. I asked where you worked and he's a bad liar." "He really isn't, he just panics," Bucky says. He sighs, crossing his arms over his chest, and does not mention that the way Tony is checking out his biceps are not subtle. "Why do you follow Steve?" "I like the work he's doing to get more stringent laws for domestic violence," Tony tells him seriously, and Bucky throws his hands up in frustration. "Anyway. Do you wanna go get lunch?" "You watched me k--" Bucky begins, outraged, then swallows it back and takes a deep breath. He glances around to make sure they're still alone, then whispers, "You watched me kill your ex-boyfriend." "He was going to kill me," Tony says, shrugging. "The bar is on the floor." "Jesus Christ," Bucky moans, dragging his hands down his face.
Tony has the self-preservation of a gnat and keeps inviting Bucky out. Bucky is absolutely appalled. He's dangerous. Tony has seen him kill somebody. And he still wants to have dinner? "And raunchy sex that makes me blush when I remember it maybe," Tony offers, shrugging. "Tiberius didn't usually even get me to come." Somehow Bucky is not surprised and yet still incredibly offended on Tony's behalf. "Well, I'm pretty good in bed," he says mulishly, because it's not fair that Tony hasn't had a partner that cared about his pleasure in bed recently. And then somehow he gets locked down into a long-term relationship. He is absolutely stunned. "Tony's like that," Steve tells him, and then, "Actually I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Please tell Tony to stop telling me how good you are in bed." "You tell Tony to stop asking me to show him how to kill people for his books," Bucky retorts, and then they both stare at each other, stone faced, as they realize oh. So this is just what Tony's like then.
Bonus: Tony goes back to his old pen name so he can write self-published raunchy romance novels of a writer and his serial killer boyfriend. Bucky is mortified but also aroused. Tony coyly asks him what he'd do in the killer character's position in the bedroom and Bucky is FURIOUS that it gets him horny. It doesn't stop him from showing Tony, though.

Characters: Miguel O'hara X Reader
I wrote this for a friend who asked for it. I told her i would have it out for her birthday. Honestly don't know how i feel about this. Also not proofread completely.
Summary: Miguel and the reader are working on a project and after something happens the reader ignores him.
Warnings:  Language, some yelling I guess, mentions of sexual harassment, I am sure there is more, but I am tired lmao.
Miguel and I sat on opposite sides of the dimly lit lab. Each of us glued to our portion of the project we had been working on for the last three months. Our nights had been exactly like this working together in silence with the occasional conversation. Where I would try to get Miguel to laugh. But it was him, and making him even exhale in a way that could be considered a laugh was nearly impossible. We were working on building a nanobot that would help the other spiders out in the field.
A grunt came from Miguel who was hunched over a table placing pieces together. I chewed on the end of my pen watching him work. He was distractingly, incomprehensibly attractive. He paid no mind to my staring even though I knew he could sense it.
I watched him fix his hair before reaching for his soldering pen. He quickly glanced up in my direction. There was a faint uptick at the corner of his lips that any normal person would miss. It was the closest I would ever get to a smile from him.
A blush rose up my neck as I violently turned back toward my computer. The force of my turn was a little too fast and I almost toppled the chair over.  Miguel let out a ‘laugh’ under his breath. I pulled at my neck trying to get rid of the blush.  Lord help me if he ever actually laughed my heart may stop.
Miguel working on soldering meant that he was almost ready for me to add a code, and I was nowhere near ready right now. Maybe just maybe If I had spent less time ogling him, I would have found a solution to the exploding problem we had last time. The cursor blinked at me in a taunting manner. I should be able to do this; I could code in my sleep.
After the last bot had exploded Miguel tried to kick me off the project. Which means I need to prove myself even more right now. I don’t want to disappoint him again. It took me over a week to convince him to let me help finish this project.
But now I didn’t know where to fix it. I was tempted to start over from scratch, but this code was a long one and it would take longer to start from scratch than I had. The trash bin next to my desk was filled with scribbled out notes and energy drinks.
“It is ready.” Miguel spoke lowly now standing directly behind me. I flinched, even with my heightened senses he moved faster than I could detect.
His hand rested on the back of my chair, fingertips barely grazing the back of my neck. My heart skipped a beat at the contact. I need to get in control of myself. This is my boss. Well kind of boss.
“I need some more time. Let me come back to it tomorrow. I don’t want to ruin another bot.”  I ran my hand over my face. I wanted to finish but I knew he wouldn’t leave me here to work.
Miguel nodded, fully understanding where I was coming from.  He stayed close behind me watching as I closed the computer down. His gaze was making me nervous my heart rate sped up. When I went to stand up, I stumbled a bit my legs were like Jello the nerves making it worse. Miguels hand shot out helping steady me. The small smile was back on his lips. I ducked my head down avoiding his gaze.
“We will meet here tomorrow at the same time?” There was a question in his words. As if he doubted, I would show up. I nodded.
“Good night, Miguel.” I whispered, fixing strands of his hair that were sticking out of place. His eyes closed at my touch.
----
I was in the cafeteria with an unfinished sandwich sitting in front of me.  I had a tablet with my code pulled up. I wanted to… no needed to have the code ready for tonight. However, looking at my mistakes I was beginning to think I was not cut out for this.
I let out a groan before hitting my forehead on the edge of table. It was going to leave a mark.
There had to be an answer.
My brain was exhausted from staying up all night going through all my notes. No amount of energy drinks was fixing that problem.
There was so much background noise echoing in the room. Other co workers were in here chatting with their friends. It kept pulling my attention away from my task. I just didn’t want to sit in the lab any longer. It was making me restless.
“I am aching from sparing, so I am going to hit the ice baths. I need to cool down.” Someone down a table from me announced to their group. I watched as he walked out the room.
That’s it!
Holy crap that is the answer. Before I could think of anything else I ran to find Miguel.
“Miguel!”  I called out over the moon to share this with him. “I think I figured it out!”
I entered his office abruptly, not bothering to knock. There was no indication to whether or not he was in here. I found Miles standing in a corner, eyes wide clearly shaken about something, but I may have just caught him breaking into the office.
Miguel made an appearance from the shadows stepping off his platform. Ever the dramatic one.  He was pissed, his eyes a dark black and jaw clenched. His thumb and pointer fingers were massaging the bridge of his nose as he worked through a breathing exercise.
In a blink it changed, and he was looking at me. That stupid small smile took over, and his shoulders lost tension.
“Figured what out mi vida?”
“The code! Of course.” I grabbed his hand yanking him down the hall to the lab. Miles better thank me for saving his ass. Before I dropped his hand, he squeezed my palm.
I wasted no time in getting my computer started. The glow of the monitors was the only light in here, as Miguel went to turn on the overhead lights.  He pulled up a chair and sat next to me leaning in.
“I am adding in a few more lines that should start a cool down process; if it starts to get too warm.”  I looked over my shoulder as he nodded at me. He watched my hands fly over the keyboard and I explained everything I was doing.
We plugged the code in to the nanobot and ran some tests. It didn’t overheat, it performed its functions flawlessly. After months of work we had a finished prototype.
It works! I jumped up standing on the stool and did a happy dance. Was it cringe? Yes, but I was too tired to care. Miguels large hands were on my waist keeping me from pummeling over on to the floor. They were warm and made my skin burn. My mind short circuited at the touch. It was all to much.
“It works.”  I whispered. My face moved closer, our eyes meeting. Staring one another down.
“It does.”  His minty breath fanning over my face, his hands moving up my waist a bit.
I giggled lowly and without thinking I kissed him. He froze like a statue, his hands dropping from me. He stopped breathing and didn’t blink. It sobered me up right away.
“I am so sorry.  I will just go now.”  I leapt down to the ground. Backing away, slowly assessing the damage I had done. He slowly came to his normal self just slightly confused.
“Y/N-” His voice was soft almost begging me to listen, but I didn’t. I took off to my room.
---
It had been three weeks since that incident, and I got good at avoiding Miguel. After working with him so closely I knew his routine, so I did the opposite. And went on more missions with the other spiders. My reports were given directly to spider women. One mission had taken four days, which was a relief. Miguel was nowhere near so I could relax. He had called during the mission once, but I ignored it.
Eventually I was going to have to face him and pay pence for sexually harassing him in a workplace. For now, I was going to pretend I wasn’t embarrassed. I had better self-control than that.  How could I be so stupid?
----
I was handing over some gadgets to Spider-women.  I was thinking about swallowing my pride and talking to him before I made his anger any worse.
“You will have to talk to him soon. I can’t deal with his mood anymore.” She took the tools from my hands, giving me a stern look.  She had to be reading my mind. I winced. Miguel valued space and I crossed the line.
He had to hate me for sure, maybe he was going to banish me back home.
“I know.” I mumbled leaving before she could say anymore to me.
Miguel was leaning up against the stark white wall opposite the door glaring down at me. I backed up to run away. Call me a chicken, I was not in the mood to deal with this yet. I was thinking about tomorrow once I had a chance to rehearse.  I don’t think I could handle rejection from the one person I have liked in a very long time.  Before I could get anywhere though he was grasping my forearm, dragging me behind him. A cold sweat ran through me.
He opened the door to the lab. He dropped his hand placing it on my lower back guiding me into the room. As the door slammed shut, I turned to face him. There was a spot on the wall behind him that was fascinating, and I gave my full attention to it.
“Y/N can we talk? Please?” He was pleading for me to give him time. I wanted to I really did. I just- couldn’t do this now.
I tried to slip past him back through the door, but he was too quick, blocking my way out.  He was going to be stubborn about this he made that very clear.
I did the next best thing and back up till there was a table between us. Just in case he started to yell. He raised a brow not missing one move I made.
“You have been avoiding me.” He stated. Coming over standing at the table in front of me.
“No, I have been busy-” Miguel raised his hand shaking his head. He had a frown that seemed to deepen with my lies.
“Don’t lie Amor. I walked down the hall, and you were running the other way. Sick for all our meetings. That says avoiding.”
“It’s not like that.” I had no legit argument, and I knew it…he knew it. I was avoiding him.
“I have been thinking of you… and that damn kiss all month.” He rubbed his jaw emotions ticking through his face.
“I got something I wanted. For you to run and hide like a coward. Which by the way you are far from being one normally.” He growled out with his teeth bared. It was kind of terrifying, almost threating. I could see why Miles was scared of him.
“I did not mean- I am sorr-”
“Do not apologize.”
I bit down chewing on my bottom lip. I didn’t know what to say or do. I was at a loss.
He stepped towards me and I took a step back. I needed to keep my distance, so I could make an escape after he broke me.
“Do you not like me?” The words hit me like a tornado. There was hint of pain behind the idea.
“No! no.”  He took two long strides towards me and this time I didn’t move. I stood my ground.
“Then you should not have avoided me. That kiss is far from over.”
Before I could react, his lip were on mine. There was a millisecond where he waited for me to respond, and as he was pulling away, I met his lips. Once I did, it was passionate and messy. He fought for dominance. His warm hands were on my hips moving to settle on my thighs. There was a gentle tap telling me to jump and I did. He moved us so I was sitting at the table behind me.
Miguel tilted my head up, so he had better access. I let out a soft sigh tangling my fingers in his soft hair. I don’t think anyone else could kiss me like this. I didn’t want anyone else to really. It was more than the fireworks they say in the movies. This was a roaring fire engulfing my senses.
He pulled away slightly and bit my bottom lip ever so softly, and I shuddered. I could feel a ghost of his smile against my lips. I couldn’t catch my breath before Miguel went back in. Slower this time. Miguel used one hand to pull me closer settling between my legs. I let ous a gasp at the sudden movement and tugged at his hair. Which earned me a small groan. It was my turn to smile.
When he pulled away, I was panting, needing air. Miguel began to trail kisses down my neck to my shoulder nipping at my skin. Before setting his forehead on mine.
“I didn’t want you to run mi vida it just surprised me. Please don’t run again.”
“Sorry, I honestly thought you wanted nothing to do with me.” “Never.” He murmured and placed a kiss to the tip of my nose

I love your art so much, you’re part of the reason I started drawing again. Your old art is cool, and your new art just has so much emotion and detail in it, it deserves so much praise. Do you have any advice on how you upskilled so well into the amazing art you do today? I really want to learn to be skilled like you are and improve to your level
Dude, thank you so much. I'm super flattered but also have major Impostor Syndrome right now lol.
The biggest thing that helped me was getting a drawing tablet and learning how to use digital art programs like Canvas or Procreate. I am a very messy artist - my traditional sketchbooks were always a nightmare because of how often I erase shit, so being able to use programs where I can simply undo or reposition a line was a game-changer.
I'm also incredibly indecisive and struggle with linework, but I found some great brushes that mimic the effects of ink pens and watercolor so I can achieve the messy, painted look. (This Sketchbook set and lineart set are the two I use the most)
Use as many references as you need! Gather a bunch of base poses to get the hang of proportions and anatomy (my go-to artist is Mellon_Soup. Screenshots from movies and shows work great too)
Try out posing tools like this one
A fun exercise that helps me is to paste a photo or drawing on one layer, and then on the layer above, sketch the main aspects in 30 seconds. Delete the first layer and then work solely off of the sketch (and yes it will absolutely look spooky and/or silly). If you need more time at first, start with 60 seconds and work your way down as you get the hang of it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Take pictures of yourself in the poses you want to draw
Find artists with a style that resonates with you and study their work
The Multiply tool on Procreate is AMAZING for adding depth to artwork. I use this on almost everything. Add a slightly darker color on top of the whole set of layers, switch it to Multiply, and then go in with the eraser to mark the areas where the light hits
Keep practicing, no matter how shitty you think it looks! Just keep going!!
Uh I think that's it? I'll add more if I remember anything else.
I wish you the best of luck on your art journey! <3

Custom Gwen Funko Pop
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I finished her! If you’re interested in more pictures, progress, the post continues below the cut off :)
I am probably the furthest thing from artistically talented as you can get, but I do have a frankly ridiculous amount of audacity so if you’re interested, this is how I did it!
I started by picking out a head and body from 2 different pops (they ended up being 2 different variations of Belle from beauty and the beast) and sketched out a design(s) to give me an idea to work from. (Ft my amazing ms Word graphic design skills on my tablet)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking back, the purple dress was the obvious choice because the apron design of the existing funko pop wouldn’t have needed any changing.
So I popped off their heads, sculpted the changes I wanted to make by cutting with a Stanley knife, sanding, and then used FIMO ovenbake Kids clay. Also, pops soften when heated so I dunked her in scalding water and kind of forced the arm that had been holding the mirror (which I also cut off) down so it wasn’t in front of her face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall I used clay to hide where the apron had been, add flowers where the mirror had been, and also to fill a hole in the back where I pulled out the apron’s bow. And of course the bell sleeves, which I did about 7 times before I gave up and said it was good enough.
Then, I primed using an all-purpose primer, did about 4 coats and let it set for a week while I was away, and then I started painting!
*sighs* ah, painting. Bane of my existence.
I started with the hair and it worked so well. I thought ah this is gonna be a breeze
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well anyway I had a lot of trouble doing the face bc my paint would just NOT go on evenly but again I just did as many coats until it looked even and just said fuck it about the visible brush strokes bc idk how to fix that.
I had to try her eyebrows a couple of times to get them even, but I’m pretty happy with them! Also, I drew in her eyelashes with a pen.
Next, the dress. Nothing worked. I think I didn’t thin my paint enough so it was just a struggle, there are heaps of visible paint strokes but again, I figured there wasn’t much I could do about it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used a toothpick to scrape on some details which are VERY messy, especially in the front, but I honestly don’t know how I would have fixed it but that point, and since she’s going to be on a bookshelf, you won’t see it anyway. Also I used a sharpie to do the flowers haha.
I really do like the back.
There was a bit of ad lib with the details because I wanted them to be noticeable so I added them in a few places they’re not in canon
Anyway, then I sprayed her with some matte acrylic sealing spray, glued her back together, and she’s done! Her head does tilt back a bit because the 2 pops had different joint systems but you can barely tell.
She’s definitely not perfect, but this was a first for me in so many aspects so I’m pretty proud of her!
