Soulmate AU
Tumblr media
I picked the one where your soulmate's first words to you appear on your skin when you turn 16 or whatever....I just think that one's neat
Like, can you imagine? She wakes up on her sixteenth birthday, ready and prepared to see something like "hi" on her wrist like her friend from school or maybe something more sweet like her mom's tattoo that said "here, let me help you with that."
But no. Instead, she wakes up to what feels like an entire novel written on basically her entire inner forearm.
It's a pickup line. A cheesy one at that.
What was supposed to be the best birthday ever was now possibly the worst day of her life. She cries to her mom for hours. There was no way she could cover this up - everyone would be asking about it. Her friends try not to laugh, but they really can't help it.
For the rest of her high school career she wears long sleeves no matter how hot it is - and when people ask about her soulmate tattoo she always makes up some lie so she doesn't have to show it to them.
Once she turns 18, though, she gets other tattoos all over to distract from the massive paragraph on her arm. By the time she hits 21 she's completely covered and now not so ashamed of her soulmate tattoo. People can barely make it out around the rest of her colorful ink anyway. She wears short-sleeves for the first time in years.
Eventually, she starts working at The Hard Deck - a bar on a military base where her brother is stationed.
And it's here that she hears pretty much every pickup line under the sun thrown her way. But none of them are The One. The words written on her skin are inked into her memory.
But then, someone finally freaking says it when her back is turned, cleaning up a table covered in peanut shells: "Are you a magician? It's the strangest thing, but every time I look at you, everyone else disappears."
And it doesn't register for her at first. She just rolls her eyes, barely even looks at the guy before saying: "Please stop."
Then her back straightens and she finally turns around. He looks just about as stunned as she feels. He's a fighter pilot, Ken doll handsome, Lieutenant, blonde, and green-eyed. Then she narrows her eyes at him and says, "You son of a bitch."
It's military regulation to have your soulmate tattoo covered with a special band until you actually meet your soulmate to avoid distractions in the workplace. She goes for the cloth wrapped around his wrist and rips it off. Sure enough, "please stop" is scrawled in tiny letters on the inside of his wrist.
"You son of a bitch!" she repeats it again and he just laughs.
"I'm Jake Seresin - your soulmate."
"Ronnie Bradshaw. I've dreamed of meeting you since I was sixteen." he has the nerve to smirk. "so i could slap you across the face. this pickup line is AWFUL."
She doesn't end up slapping him across the face. But they do find a secluded booth at the back of the bar and talk the rest of the night. She thumbs the words on his wrist and he asks about all her other tattoos.
He goes home with her that night and all of the other pilots notice his soulmate band is missing.

King Thomas Kazansky has been ruling the kingdom of Marimar for nearly 100 years, his general is Lord Peter Mitchell, and his nephew, Prince Bradley Bradshaw, is set to rule in his place when he passes
That just leaves Princess Veronica, happy-go-lucky and longing for an adventure like she reads in her books.
The king's health is failing, and there is not much that human medicine can do. But Princess Veronica has read about fairies that live in the far south, on a mountain covered in mist and waterfalls, that could cure her beloved uncle and king.
No one believes her, stating that fairies don't actually exist.
She sneaks out of the castle and goes out on her own to find the fairies herself, knowing that is the only way to save the king.
Her brother and Maverick want to find her, but they can't leave the castle with the way the king is currently, so they send a trusted knight to go find the princess and bring her back home.
A Sir Jacob Seresin - a trusted and skillful knight that feels a bit like a babysitter once he's told what his mission is. But it's important to the kingdom, so he'll keep his grumblings to himself and go find the princess.
Does he find her being captured by ogres? Uh...yeah, he does. It doesn't give him great confidence that she's capable, but once she's freed from her bonds she does help him take one of the ogres out.
She is determined to continue on her quest though, telling him that she'll have to be bound and gagged back to the castle in order to be stopped.
He literally is about to just throw her on the back of his horse, absolutely tired of her shenanigans, when they're visited by a fairy.
So Sir Jacob is convinced to help the princess with her quest
They travel south, find the fairies, go through many perils, probably have a misunderstanding in there, and fall in LOVE along the way.
In the end, the king is saved by the fairies' magic, Princess Veronica becomes ambassador to the fairy kingdom, and she of course marries her knight in shining armor.
okay these were so freaking fun, the fantasy one especially. i love the way that one turned out. it sounds so sweet 🥺

Hi Morri! I'm sorry that your mom was positive, I hope she gets the least symptoms possible (I passed covid as well, so I hope her and my experience are close, since I was almost asymptomatic)
I've seen that one of your comfort movies is The Princess Bride!! It's my mom's favorite, and we even have it on DvD so that she can watch it as many times as she'd like. (Honestly, I watch it a lot cause...It's a great movie ngl)
Since we are all talking about Six of Crows (as well, awesome book, great taste), have you read or heard about The Gilded Wolves?? It has definitely similar vibes in terms of heist and characters, but it's on an alternate 19th Paris. I'd say is sort of steampunk with magic<3
Also I am very much on board with your book recommendations, you know I'm always looking for new books to read and since you have such a great taste, I'd love it if you could tell me a couple of your favorites...
Right now I'm reading When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhil, a novel about women in the 1950's who turn into dragons when they feel opressed (so basically feminism with a layer of metahpor, which is cool, cause who wouldn't want to turn into a dragon and unleash anger??)
I'm here if you need someone to talk to, no matter what it is, I'm sure we can figure out a topic of conversation to distract you from everything that's going on
take care, my love<3

Hi Carmen!!!
The Princess Bride is one of my all-time favorite movies! If you like it, you should definitely watch Stardust. It's kind of similar (goofy fantasy romance movie), and I love it dearly. Magic, flying pirates, romance, and comedy. And lots and lots of ghosts. I highly recommend it!
Funnily enough I heard of The Gilded Wolves for the first time a few minutes ago, from @nicola-writes. It's most definitely going on my "books to buy" list.
Some of my favorite books:
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein a woman pilot and a woman spy (who are best friends) accidentally end up in each other's places during WWII.
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel the before, during, and after of a world-ending illness, and the story of how one person's passion project connected many, many lives.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir Science based science fiction, with the best take on extraterrestrial life I've ever seen in media. (it actually makes fucking sense!!)
The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones a fairytale-esque story based on welsh mythology. the dead won't stay dead, and a gravedigger and a mapmaker are going to fix it.
Vicious by V.E. Schwab a super-powers story where no one is "good" or "evil". also the only piece of media I've ever seen that has a logical explanation for not only who gets powers, but also why they get what powers.
The Illuminae Files by Aimee Kaufman and Jay Kristoff a sci-fi trilogy told entirely via collected documents. (message logs, transcript of security videos, etc.) sarcasm, lovable characters, and some found family in a way.
If you plan to read any of these, please look up the trigger warnings!! All of these have some pretty dark themes.

I just wanted to pop in and thank you for making stay- it’s such a beautiful game, I’m trying to get every single person I’ve ever met to play it because I can’t stop thinking about it. Your worldbuilding is so beautiful and your characters are. Intensely lovable.
I also wanted to ask what program you used to make it, or what your process was, if that’s okay?
I used Ink by Inkle Studios, which is just an amazing, flexible, friendly narrative scripting tool. I highly recommend it if you want to play in this sort of space.
In terms of process... So there's one review on metafilter that compares this game to Outer Wilds, which fills me with smug joy. I sat down to start sketching out this game directly after watching a great Making Of Outer Wilds documentary on youtube.
(If you haven't played Outer Wilds, please go do so immediately. Read nothing about it, it's best completely unspoiled, and it will change your life. I frickin love that game-- note that Outer Worlds is a different, larger game, released around the same time with a similar logo, don't get them confused 😅)
Obviously Stay? isn't a space exploration game, or a game that involves a beautiful modeled solar system or learning how to pilot a space ship... or moons that shoot lava rocks... But the structure of OW was what caught my creative interest.
I loved the way that game gated knowledge and progress, and the myriad different paths and experiences possible inside of it. My house had spent a lot of our several playthrus picking apart how it was structured, gleefully, and listening to the creators talk through their processes in the documentary made me wonder: can I do that but with words?
(And I think... I did. I'm very happy with Stay?)
In terms of building the game, I actually structured it first. I built the whole basic structure with each "scene" being a line. Ex. In the original framework, in the magic shop that whole section would just read something like: "Magic Shop -> Be nice to Suzie? Yes / No -> Befriend Mad Scientist? Yes/No -> Go to Ball"
I wanted to make sure all the logic and paths worked first. Once I had that all sturdy and set up, I started filling things in (you notice Myka didn't even have a name, above. Suzette is the only one who started out named). I turned "Befriend Myka?" into that whole dialogue tree, with branches off to dates and things, with different versions of those conversations depending on what you'd chosen and done before... My wife, who betaed all versions of this, found it very frustrating that Ossani was so much harder for her to befriend in the final game than the initial "Befriend Soldier? Yes/No" option.
During the fleshing out process I ended up building a lot of new structures -- for instance in the model above you can see there's no place for having drinks with Mister Pent. But I found building structure-first was really useful for me & if I did it again that's probably where I'd start.
That's partially because... If I wanted just to tell a story, this would have been another novel. I think with gamewriting, which I'd love to keep doing, there's got to be a structural component that makes it *interesting*-- or it's a story I should just keep as a book.

Longitudinalwaveme Reviews Old Comics, Part 7
Today, I will be reviewing Flash #307.
The Flash #307 (1982): “Prey for the Piper”, was written by Carey Bates, drawn by the legendary Carmine Infantino, and inked by Bob Smith.
The story stars the Barry Allen Flash as the protagonist and, as the title suggests, the Pied Piper as the main antagonist. This story is also historically important for the Piper-it’s the first issue to give him an origin story. That’s right. Despite having debuted in Flash #106 in 1959, the Piper wasn’t given a backstory (or a real name!) for 22 years!
The story opens with two guys in a helicopter flying a giant gong across the city. Evidently, it’s going to be a new display at the Centrex Museum and...why in the world did they decide to transport the thing by helicopter? Couldn’t they have used a truck? That seems safer.
Regardless, the Pied Piper, who is in a nearby skyscraper, uses his pipe to hypnotize the pilots and get them to fly the gong into a building that’s under construction. Barry Allen, who is nearby buying what I believe is a newspaper but could also be a magazine or, knowing Barry, a comic book, notices the collision that’s about to happen and springs into action as the Flash.
The pilots release the giant gong and it cashes into the building, making a horrible noise but surprisingly not causing any structural damage. Barry stops the gong’s descent and goes to ask the helicopter pilots what’s happening. We then cut to Piper (who, as usual for this time period, looks like a demented elf), who notes that he only needs one more really loud sound to put “Operation Sound-Off” (I’m sure that sounded awesome in his head) into action and defeat the Flash.
Meanwhile, Barry is puzzling over why the helicopter pilots suddenly dropped the gong into the building, as when questioned about what happened, they had no idea. He knows that someone must have hypnotized them, but isn’t sure who or why. Meanwhile, in the police department’s record room, a young officer named Morty, who has been giving a reporter information about some as yet unrevealed story, walks the reporter (who works for Picture News just like Iris did) to her car...only for him to be whacked over the head and her to be kidnapped! We also see that the files she was interested in involve the Pied Piper, who is operating under the alleged name of Henry Darrow.
Barry comes outside just as Morty comes to, and the younger man tells him about what happened. Barry thinks that someone kidnapped her because of the story she was working on, and, because it was about the Pied Piper, Barry assumes that it was the Piper who had her kidnapped. In speaking of the demented elf, he’s in a state park fifty miles outside Central City, known as Summit Canyon, creating an avalanche in order to gather the final decibels needed to enact his evil plan. He notes that, once it’s complete, he’ll “finally be able to rid myself of the two curses which have plagued my life with the most pain and misery: my arch-enemy the Flash-and my despicable family!”
Meanwhile, in his apartment, Barry is trying to work out the details of the kidnapping (which he still thinks the Piper is responsible for), noting that the man’s past has always been a mystery. We then cut to “the posh Ridgeway Hills community easy of the city”, where one of the kidnappers wonder why someone so rich hired them. The other one basically tells him “who cares, we’re getting paid a ton of money and now we can go to Vegas!”
Inside a mansion, the people who paid the kidnappers note that the reporter is waking up, addressing each other as “Osgood” (snicker) and “Rachel”. The reporter tells them that they won’t get away with this, to which they basically respond that they totally will, because they’ve got tons of money to bribe her with. We then see that she’s tied up at one end of a ridiculously long table. The reporter, whose name is Marcy Dunphy, exclaims that she’s seen the people who had her kidnapped in the society pages. The man then introduces himself and his wife as “Hazel and Osgood Rathaway”, which, as this is only two panels after the use of the “Rachel” name, may hold the record for the least amount of time passing before Cary Bates forgot a character’s name. The reporter identifies them as the heads of the Rathaway Publishing Empire and is completely bewildered as to why such wealthy people would have her kidnapped. Their response? She’s uncovered a very embarrassing family secret, and they want it to stay hidden. Which does raise the question of why they decided to have her kidnap before trying to bribe her. Wouldn’t she be more amenable to the idea if you hadn’t had her kidnapped?
While the Flash races to stop the Pied Piper from robbing a museum, the Rathaways for some reason decide to tell Macy the whole story. Their son, Hartley Rathaway, was born deaf, so they spent a ton of money to ‘cure’ his deafness, and because this is comic books, they actually found a doctor who could do it. Hartley subsequently became obsessed with music. Mr. and Mrs. Rathaway had big plans for their son, but, as time went by, it became clear that Hartley wasn’t interested in excelling in anything or in “upholding the prestige of the Rathaway name”. Instead of addressing the problem (or, alternatively, not attempting to force their son to become famous), Osgood decided to start bribing the heck out of people. He bought Hartley’s way into the best colleges and then bribed them into giving him good grades he hadn’t earned. After Hartley graduated, Osgood paid his way into an executive position at a major firm and...seriously, just how rich are these people?
Meanwhile, the Flash manages to get through the sonic barrier that the Piper set up around the museum, only to be attacked by the Piper and his “Sonic  Boomatron” which is in the shape of bagpipes because of reasons. The stupidly-named device hits Flash with the equivalent of 50,000 decibels, before we cut back to the Rathaways’ explanation of how awesome bribery is. They apparently gave Hartley a silver-plated flute for his sixteenth birthday (in case it wasn’t clear that they’re made of money yet, I guess), and they tell Macy that their son had always liked tinkering with musical instruments. Somehow, they completely missed that their son was a super genius who created hypnotic and weaponized music until he actually put on the costume and became the Pied Piper. HOW DID THEY NOT NOTICE THAT? It clearly started when he was still a teenager, as he used it to hypnotize his tutor into getting out of a test.
Now with the power to hypnotize people, his life was even easier than it had been before, and Hartley was bored out of his mind. So bored, apparently, that he decided that white-collar crime was overrated and decided to go into the “robbing banks in costume” type of crime. I also find it amusing at how shocked the Rathaways were that Hartley became a criminal. What, do nonstop bribery and literal kidnapping not count? Because they were bribing people left, right, and center LONG before he became the Piper.
Meanwhile, Piper’s weapon somehow turns the Flash into sound, because this is comics and comics don’t have to make sense. He proceeds to walk off with his loot, surrounded by a sonic barrier that protects him from police gunfire.
So yes, the Pied Piper is Hartley Rathaway, his family is rich, and he became the Piper because, at least according to his parents, he was an “emotionally disturbed” child who got bored. Apparently the elder Rathaways have kept the secret through EVEN MORE BRIBERY, giving money to everyone from the local police chief to the FBI to keep things quiet. The FBI were the ones who created the identity of Henry Darrow. By the way, Mrs. Rathaway is back to being Rachel again. Rachel reiterates the fact that kidnapping and then bribing the reporter to also keep things quiet was the only logical solution to the problem...at which point the Piper himself shows up!
Meanwhile, Barry uses his mental control over all his molecules to reassemble himself while the Piper tells his parents that he’s paid his debt to them. Apparently, he turns over most of his loot to his parents in order to pay “back every Rathaway dollar my parents spent on trying to mold me into something I could never be.” The elder Rathaways had to keep all of it because doing anything else would reveal the secret. Osgood tells his son that he and his wife only wanted what was best for Hartley, to which Hartley replies “Not quite, Pop. You wanted what was best for the Rathaway name! What I wanted never really matter much to either one of you.” According to Hartley, then, it seems that he became the Piper not so much because he was bored...but rather because he feels that his parents were more concerned with their reputations than with loving him.
Then the Flash pops up, punches him out, and rescues Macy, who says that they should give the Rathaways a few minutes alone with their son. I guess that we can assume that the Rathaways never got arrested because they’re made of money. Or something. (Could that be why we also rarely saw the Piper in prison during the Silver and Bronze Age?)
Well, it may have taken Piper 22 years to get an origin (and a name), but in this case, I think it was worth it. With the possible exception of the Golden Glider, the Pied Piper has what is by far the most interesting Silver/Bronze Age origin of any of the Rogues, and I’m glad it’s stuck around. Props to Carey Bates for giving the Piper an incredibly memorable origin story.

do you know of any au fic in tww?
Yes I do, but I’m assuming you mean AUs other than just canon-divergence? Because samjosh is obviously not canon (tho it could be if aaron sorkin had the balls to actually push boundaries in terms of casting and relationships) so it’s technically an AU? Either way I’m going to exclude fics that are solely AU bc of relationships.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/3925696--an American girl raised on promises by rillrill: a genderswapped sam seaborn with a shit ton of internalized misogyny! it’s a wonderful AU fic that makes me feel alllllll the things
https://archiveofourown.org/works/7829509/chapters/17872447--rarely make history by alongthewatchtower: another genderswapped fic! this time it’s female!josh set in the pilot episode. this one is definitely more lighthearted than the one above--it’s basically canon with female josh with (for me, being a woman) a more relatable thought process lol
https://archiveofourown.org/works/12791685--vere vivere by ninjalanternshark: a trans!sam seaborn fic that covers him from childhood to the administration and a little after that. it’s so so so good, and it’s...i don’t know how to describe it other than a feel good fic.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/322076/chapters/518419--a magic mirror family by @snowdarkred: completely AU, where the found family dynamics of the show were put into an actual family, where the senior staff are jed bartlet’s actual adopted children. very very cute.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/322850--Heart, Temper, Touch by @snowdarkred: I put this in my favorite tww fics ask too; sam seaborn but a lesbian. so so so good, and oddly vindicating?
https://archiveofourown.org/works/27034612--we belong to you and me by perfect_little_fool: like 50%/75% smut but it’s a soulmate au between josh and donna! smut is 10/10 btw
https://archiveofourown.org/works/25528132--what moments divine by @slightlyraspberry: josh is a sad sad boy in a ‘verse where sam won the 47th the first time and is also in an out relationship with will bailey. doesn’t cover their relationship at all, it’s mostly just Josh’s introspection, but i’m putting it here bc it’s a major story twist. also i love it so much that i will put it here anyway.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/14194866--Lay Me Down in a Secret Grave by Innocentfighter: an AU where Sam was in the military before the administration. so so good and such an interesting concept!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/16826584--Ink Me to this Promised Land by Innocentfighter: another soulmate au! this time it’s samjosh an no smut, rather a sadder fic. it deals pretty heavily with the homophobia of having another man’s name, so don’t read if some mentions of slurs and period-typical homophobia bother you! if it doesn’t definitely do read!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/19134469--a safe place to land by joshlyman: a fic where sam and josh are opposing campaigns! it is samjosh heavy but the canon divergence is heavy enough that i think i can get away with putting it on this list! some smut, but not that heavy, mostly pining heavy lmao
https://archiveofourown.org/works/28022466/chapters/68645985--Where the Heart Is by Nkala99: an AU where...actually I’m not gonna say bc spoilers and it’s not even mentioned in the summary of the fic, but it’s finished and you’ll know like two chapters in. such a good fic!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/26397058--One Black Coffee by Lily_Padd_23: even tww has its coffee shop aus! samjosh centric when they were in college with amy gardner thrown in for extra fun. such a good fic!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/651090--All In The Family by gutsandglitter: similar to the other a magic mirror family fic that I rec’d above, but this is a little different! more charlie centric too and more a slice of life than an elaborate backstory
https://archiveofourown.org/works/4350353/chapters/9867797--Tommy Boy by DestielsDestiny: an ICONIC fic. You know I can’t explain bc it would spoil i guess? But either way, it’s fantastic!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/28654149--Put to Sky by @augendz: the most Au-y AU, couldn’t be further from canon lol. A Marvel/superhero verse! Pining boys! superpowers! donna being smarter than everyone in the room! samjosh!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/19445527--This Love Would Burn So Yellow by WaxyWolf: another literal family fic! it also comes with a sequel that’s linked right below this. so so cute!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24141931/chapters/58129324--Talk the Stars Down From the Sky by WaxyWolf: the sequal/companion to the above fic! a 4+1, completely fluffy and sweet! (i do wish there was more in this verse, these two fics are so good)
Okay, I’ll stop here, I think you got a lot more than I mean to give, but all of these fics are fantastic!

Demon Wind (1990)
Tumblr media
Demon Wind (1990)
Greetings and blessings upon you my flock! Welcome to the Cult of Cult. I am your pastor and priest of pop culture, ordained minister of genre films, the good reverend Chainsaw McGraw. You may just call me Reverend Chainsaw. Come and accept our sacrament upon the altar of online internet reviews. Our first holy offering is an absolute treasure, 1990′s Demon Wind. An offering ripped from the blood inked pages of the Evil Dead’s Necronomicon Ex Mortis, Demon Wind is not quite an unofficial entry into the world of Ash and the Deadites, but if you have exhausted the Catalogue of Sam Raimi Horror flicks (and let’s be honest, if you’re reading a Tumblr review of Demon Wind, you probably have), then Demon Wind will scratch that itch for sure.
The Message
Our anointed offering opens upon a boarded up farm house owned by simple country occultists George and Regina Carter. There’s a Mean Girls reference to be made here. George and Regina are defending their homestead from an unseen force (A Demon Wind some might say) through a Christian/Witchcraft combination of gospel music, a set of holy daggers, and a diary full of Regina’s spells. Unfortunately it’s not very effective, and George is possessed. George kills Regina, drops a snow globe, and for some inexplicable reason the farmhouse explodes bringing the films epilogue to a close.
With that we are brought to the year 1990 where our rag tag group of heroes converge upon the supernaturally supercharged Carter farm with one mission in mind, helping a homie sort out his shit. What a great group of friends; I can barely get the crew together for a game night but our protagonist Cory has a group of friends so tight they are willing to drop everything and drive untold miles to nowhere in particular just because he had a bad dream. Speaking of “tight” friends, of our doomed party, no friends are so tight as Chuck and Stacey, but we’ll get to that, in short order. Let us meet the fellowship of ding dongs who will battle the blustery bogeys of Demon Wind.
Cory is the star of the show. A fairly blasé everyman who’s so caught up in his chosen one journey that he can’t even bother to be slightly interesting. He is the grandchild of the oh so fetch (see I got to it) Regina/George pairing from earlier in the film. Cory is haunted by mysterious dreams, and a tragic reunion with his demented father, which draw him to the Carter farm. There is however more to meets the eye, you see Cory is from the planet Namek. Watch the movie, you’ll catch my drift.
Elaine is Cory's girlfriend and wants nothing more than to pull her pants down in public to bring a smile to his face.
Dell is Cory’s friend? Bully? Enemy? it’s not entirely clear. It seems Dells role in this story is to be an unabashed asshole and chauvinist to every character that interacts with him. He is also perhaps Elaine’s brother, or someone's brother. Listen, you’d have to pay wayyyy more attention than this movie warrants to parse out all the relationship dynamics in this flick. Let’s just say, Dell is here, and despite how he acts, the other characters seem to be ok with that fact.
Terri is Dell’s girlfriend and a good friend of Elaine. Despite being on the arm of a typical 80s teen flick bad guy, Terri seems to be the most eligible bachelorette on the Carter farm. Or so it may seem, but as I’ll explain later I think there is a truer love than can be expressed that really keeps Terri from leaving Dell.
Jack is a Big Ol’ Nerd. He speaks like the writers were convinced using a thesaurus was enough to convince us that the guy is existentially unfuckable. The guy is basically just Billy from Power Rangers, but instead of piloting a badass Triceratops Zord he just kids very mildly bummed when the love of his life is transformed into a very judgmental spontaneously combusting doll.
Speaking of spontaneously combusting dolls, the victim of that very unfair end is Bonnie. Bonnie clearly had way more confidence in the love of her bookish beaux than she should have. The betrayal is immense, not that Jack couldn’t save her, but just in the fact that when she meets her demise (despite the fact that he promised he’d protect her) he is not at all distraught. Poor Bonnie, she is by far the most human feeling of the cardboard cut out female protagonists in this film and she deserved better. Let’s be honest, Jack was looking for an out, and Bonnie was just too real for this movie.
And Now, without further ado, I’d like to introduce the greatest power couple in the history of B Movie Horror Cinema: Chuck and Stacy. If you think my introduction is a bit much, I promise that the film goes much further. Demon Wind begins it’s love affair with this bromance in delightfully extravagant style. There’s magic, explosions, opera, karate, beer and bunnies and a big ol middle finger to fucking Dell. Chuck had at once been romantically involved with Terri, but things went south somehow and he claims that he still holds a flame for her. Despite this continued insistence I think it’s plain to see that Chuck found comfort, magic, and a ride or die hunk in the arms of Stacey. Stacey is a suave, sharp, smooth talking guy, whose only desire in life seems to be whatever keeps Chuck around, and that seems to mean a lot of stage magic and martial arts! I could write about Chuck and Stacey all day, so I’ll move on from here.
The cast of this film is wild and honestly even the weak ones are fun to watch. There is no character on the roster who is easy to mistake for another. That is why it is so fun to watch them meet their demise and even more fun to see them return under the possession of the demon wind as oopy goopy caricatures of their human selves. And this does go on for quite awhile. Unfortunately even Chuck and Stacey are not enough to protect the surreal landscape in which they find themselves. At one point in the film a second set of friends drop by to add 2 more bodies to the massacre. Willy and Reena, a gangly set of clothing accessories who are given legs, but hey Ear Ring and Beret, I mean Willy and Reena are still fun to see torn to shreds.
The movie ultimately reveals that the madness was sparked by the fact that a cult worshipping a Demon God named Delos had actually built the homestead and the cursed ground they stand upon is the stage for the cult leader, a preacher named Anders to finally become the host of said Demon God. As interesting as that lore may sound on paper, it’s not particularly well executed, and Cory’s role to play in all of this is even more vague. All in all the 3rd act of this film feels a bit anti-climatic even if it does feature a demon superhero fight.
All that said I’d like to move on to the next phase of our sacred liturgy. The sacred and profane, the highs and lows of this movie.
Benediction
Best Feature: What the What?
The best feature of Demon Wind has to be how bizarre it is. It throws everything it can think of at the audience. Burning Skeletons leap from Crosses, eggs that hatch into piles of worms, EXPLODING BABY DOLLS, Cow skulls with long sticky tongues made of human intestines! They certainly sacrificed logic in order to insure they provided the audience with something they haven’t seen before.
Best Kill/ effect: A Cowmen Album Cover!
The best effect in Demon Wind is also it’s best kill. while investigating a barn on the Carter property, which is full of occult symbols, animal remains, and fun Texas Chainsaw Massacre style crafts. One of the crafts catches the eye of Beret, I mean Reena. You know by her hat that she knows a thing or to about fine art. This particular piece of barn décor is a human skeleton with a cow’s skull. As she is inspecting this “beautiful” piece, what appears to be a human intestine, flies from the mouth of the cow skull and wraps around Reena like a chameleons tongue. The intestine begins to retreat into the jaw of the skull bringing Reena’s head along with it. The skull chomps down into Reena, we get a satisfyingly bloody show, and Reena’s body winds up hanging limp from its mouth.
Second place belongs to Bonnie, but we’ve already spoken to that bizarre spectacle.
Best Scene: I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Stacey!
Chuck and Stacey enter the scene. I know I’m inconsistent in how I spell Stacey/Stacy. This scene was mentioned above and you just have to see it. Watch until Cory intervenes.
Best Character(s): Stacey Cassidy and the Sundance Chuck
Stacey is the best character in this film, but as I’m sure he wouldn’t accept this honor alone I have to make it a tie. Chuck and Stacey are just so good. Every moment they are on screen is a treasure. The introduction of these two just received the honor of best scene, but they shine as Demons and in an even longer sequence leading to their demise. They take the watch at the Carter home and from the fog emerges a t!ddy ghost, my congregants will be familiar with this sort of creature, who attempts to lure them outside. Stacey puffs up Chucks confidence calling him “John Wayne”, Chuck proposes they go on a Tahitian vacation, but Stacey wisely wary of voodoo suggests Vegas. And there you have it, these two pure good boys are surviving this flick and they are getting married in Vegas. Unfortunately, they decide to speed things up a bit, and decide that although they are not tempted by the t!ddy ghost, that they can use their karate magic to defeat the demonic hordes. They march out into the woods, but we can add the power of love to the list of things that are no use against the Demon Wind. Our best boys meet their fates together like two old west heroes, guns blazing! Oh, oh, but they come back as demons and they eat Dell, so thank God for that.
Worst feature: I ordered these Deadites from Wish
The villains are not particularly interesting. It’s boring, goopy, bad mouth piece demons that have appeared in hundreds of demon flicks already by this point, and it really makes you want to go back to the unexplained paranormal happenings from earlier in the movie rather than fighting these dollar store Deadites. The fact that the film leans into this in it’s third act really makes the film feel incredibly front loaded.
Worst scene: Cory in the House
Pretty much any scene that focuses on Cory is a bit weak. He’s just not fun. He gets to transform into an anime character in the end of the film and he’s still melodramatic and boring. This is often a problem with main characters in films, the writers don’t want them to be unlikeable or too quirky so the fun parts are always the supporting cast.
Worst Character: Dude, you’re NOT getting a Dell!
Don’t get me wrong, I hate Dell. But Dell is a big dumb goon who is just so fun to watch suffer and act like an utter meathead, and being hateable is not the worst thing a character can be. For this reason I have to give the worst character award to Cory; for many of the reasons I spoke about above.
Summary:
How fitting that a B movie gets a B. But that’s really a great place for this movie to be. So many big Hollywood productions don’t deserve that spot. Though Demon Wind may drag in the middle, and the characters and effects may be quite corny, it is certainly not boring. Demon Wind is eye candy even though it looks so ugly. It has some of the most loveable murder lambs in the genre and one of my favorite bromances in all of cinema, If you are a fan of Gonzo Horror then Demon Wind is a must see. If you are not all that into that sort of thing I promise you’ll have a good time. I highly recommend it.

The Doctor who’s not really a Doctor
Tumblr media
»»—— Crew Member #4 of Space Pirates ATEEZ ——««
all aboard The Perihelion, welcome to the co-pilot’s log system! here you’ll be able to access the crew’s profiles should you wish to read about their journeys:
[CAPTAIN] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]
“look I’m a doctor but not that kind of doctor, please don’t bleed all over me”
often described as having celestial-level beauty, with a demon’s fiery soul (and mouth)
get on his bad side and he’ll start a solar flare magnitude of a roast that you wished you weren’t invited to
“HE’S MY BEST FRIEND, WE’VE BEEN FRIENDS FO-“, “yes OK WE GET IT WOOYOUNG”
grew up in the upper district of Liyutania where it’s renowned for its rich architecture, scholarly institutions and affluent demography. The lower district consists of merchant markets, working-class citizens and where the nationally popular activity of podracing would take place in Drifters Arena
Yeosang is half human, half Suva [database file: rumoured to be descendants from the stars] hence the etherealness he’s inherited from his mother. His hair and skin has a soft glow whenever he’s in direct sun light, has limited ability to self-heal (although it takes up quite a bit of energy to do so) and precognition – both of which are common among Suvas. However Yeosang has yet to gain control over his visions; majority of the time it comes randomly and only shows for the next instant/near-future rather than far future
the days Yeosang wasn’t cooped up reading encyclopaedias on the major comets and constellations of Planet Aipotu, he’d tag along with the family’s cook to the lower districts to help with ingredients shopping
on the contrary to stereotypes for people of his class, Yeosang was brought up in a family who taught about equality rather than status, compassion over ignorance. So mingling with the lower district community was something he actually enjoyed, often finding the residents to be more genuine despite their rustic nature
Old Brax from the local bakery would often treat Yeosang to a hot oshiadilla bun [database file: steamed buns that comes with various floral-infused custard filling] ever since he offered to help the baker package and display the food around the shop
a simple smile, greeting and/or subtle kind gestures were what made Yeosang loveable
the day 10 year old Yeosang experienced his first vision was the same day Wooyoung came stumbling into his life. A confused little Yeo managed to smoothly side-step and grab onto the stranger with lilac hair to stop a potentially painful crash thanks to his foresight
“I like your hair! It’s the colour of clouds at sunset….I’m Yeosang by the way. Kang Yeosang! What’s your name?”
immediately Wooyoung knew this kid was different from the rest of the uppers (slang for the rich ones) and dropped his defences a little more, “name’s Wooyoung and thanks for…”
“just Wooyoung?”
Yeosang learnt at a young age just how privileged he really is, and his brows furrowed at thought of how lonely it must’ve been for Wooyoung – what youngling would want to return to an empty house at each day’s end?
first he split half his oshiadilla bun to share, before changing up young Wooyoung’s routine in a more pleasant way by making sure he’s surrounded by laughter and good company that night
the Kangs pretty much find themselves having a new addition to the family, the first time Yeosang saw Wooyoung drop his tough exterior was when his mother fitted Woo in his new school uniform and embraced him as if he was her own child
where Yeosang excelled in, was his studies (because the boy genuinely enjoyed learning) whilst Wooyoung gave it his best, though his intelligence comes in a different form
has always loved astronomy and reading since young, which his parents were supportive of and provided the means for him to continue studying at the top institutes for his doctorate
is well versed with 8 different languages and specialised in deciphering scripts as well as star charts/maps by the time he graduated
being a model student Yeo has a sophisticated disposition with underlying quick-wittedness. He once broke character to deck a classmate with a book and even went as far to throw hands for verbally humiliating and splashing dirty water on Wooyoung in the eating hall. Wooyoung had to hold him back before the Headmistress came storming in to break up the fight
his parents gave him a stern talking but they understood his intentions, Yeosang’s mother in particular was just as protective of her adopted son
nowadays if Yeosang had to attack it’d be through his colourful vocabulary because, “my jawline isn’t the only thing that can cut a bitch”
he did learn some hand-to-hand combat from San and Wooyoung had taught the basics of shooting a beam pistol – for extra precaution of course
became The Perihelion’s official navigator after the crew met him at one of Wooyoung’s racing days
long story short: miscommunication occurred with a local merchant so cue Yeosang to the rescue – majority of the crew gawking at this angel – fluently translating to the correct dialect and civilly explaining to the hot-headed merchant that what they meant was “how much?” and not “shit fraud”
he knew exactly the item they were after (thanks to an impromptu vision again) which caused Hongjoong to be shook, San was mildly impressed and the rest of the crew were just confused
“do you think he can read minds?”, “hush! He’s right there…..though that’d be cool if he could”
“no offence but you might want to work on your intergalactic translations first before trying to translate charts,” and here they all thought that San’s gaze was piercing, Yeosang might as well have shot arrows through them
Yeosang was totally lowkey judging
as thanks Hongjoong invited Yeo along for lunch, classic enthusiastic Mingi picked the boy up before anyone else could say anything and started to walk off in search of food
Seonghwa tried to get him to put Yeosang down because he was 90% sure that the half-Suva was close to using the good ol’ knee-them-in-the-balls, plus the rest of the public were starting to stare
“HEY! What in Andromeda’s name are you doing with my best friend?!” a wild sweaty, sleeves already rolled up Wooyoung appeared
thankfully with space dad’s & mum’s intervention, things didn’t get too out of hand (save for Wooyoung nearly butting heads with both San & Mingi) and by the time the twin suns were setting everyone was sharing drinks at the local Tav
after Yeosang casually enquired Hongjoong’s crew about their intentions for needing the map to Parilles [database file: a minor planet long forgotten in the current’s solar system], there was a moment of silence before a barrage of “HOW DO- YOU CAN READ THIS SCRIPT???”
later on Yeosang would break the news to his family that both him and Wooyoung got invited to ‘an expedition’ which they accepted, “just so I can finally make use of this piece of parchment that I only spent a quarter of my life studying for.” Both of them promising their parents to write whenever they can and visit annually at least
grew to become Seonghwa’s favourite child, sometimes helping the actual doctor with his work (or care for plant children). Refused to leave his side when the newly-awoken cyborg was in recovery, “there’s just something in my eyes and no I DON’T need tissues” followed by not so subtle sniffles
the navigator’s office is nothing less than regal (contrasting the rest of the ship’s organised mess) with shelves of books, pin boards, dangling starcatchers and a solid cherry oak desk in the middle where Yeosang would be busily scribbling notes with ink & quill on the array of charts he’s got splayed out as his little Yunhogizer flits around. Somewhere in there is also a secret compartment filled with emergency sweet treats too
currently is dealing with sulky Wooyoung and Mingi because he blocked them on the companion bot’s messenger after that whole spicy photos fiasco that he’s so sure has permanently scarred his otherwise perfect eyesight; “be gone you ferals, and repent for your sins! By the way, I’m revoking bro privileges Wooyoung”

MCR Lyrics & Flowers
Here are the last four floral lyric pieces that I’ve done, this time taking a lyric from each MCR album and pairing it with a flower with a similar meaning. Like all of the previous pieces (links to those posts below) these are also done with ink on a 2.5x2.5 inch canvas. Quick fun fact: I only added MCR to this project because my friend suggested it, and at the time I didn’t even listen to them. Now here I am a little over a year later finally done with this project and still a disappointment to my parents.
Before I get into my thoughts on each of the pieces I’m going to ramble on about what I did differently with these ones and why. Firstly I wanted more asymmetry with the flower borders so I kept the flowers to a bit more of a minimum and had them roughly in the same placement piece to piece to keep them connected a bit more. Secondly I decided to add some extra petals and flower buds to change things up slightly and have these four pieces stand out a bit more compared to all the other pieces.
Tumblr media
“Stand up, fucking tall, Don't let them see your back”, Our Lady of Sorrows, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. This lyric is paired with buttercups to represent confidence.
The finished flowers on this one kind of bug me because at the time my brush was splitting and I decided to use it at awkward angles and get thicker lines instead of just fixing it right away. While I do like that it provides a bit of contrast between the flowers and the petals I find it makes the flowers kind of blend in with the text more. Because of the small scale I was working on there isn’t much wiggle room for line thickness to provide contrast between the text and flowers so I prefer to have thinner lines on the flowers to make the text stand out more.
Tumblr media
“I’m taking back the life you stole”, It’s Not a Fashion Statement, It’s a Fucking Deathwish, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Paired with delphinium to represent courage.
I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this one. In total I’ve completed 22 pieces and I still don’t know how to visually balance flowers that are basically just stacks of flowers.  Looking back on it now I think I should have put less stems(stalks?) of flowers and put more individual flowers instead. It probably would have made things a bit easier to balance.
Tumblr media
“I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars”, Welcome to the Black Parade, The Black Parade. Paired alongside gladiolus to represent strength of character.
For more stacks of flowers I do think this one is a bit more visually balanced than the previous piece. I’m not sure why, it may be because the stalks of flowers aren’t as dense as delphinium. I did like painting these flowers, and besides that there isn’t anything else I have to say about this piece.
Tumblr media
“Ain't nobody gonna take my life, Ain't nobody gonna get the best of me”, Party Poison, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.  Paired with daisy representing inner strength.
This one, out of all 22 pieces, is my absolute favourite. I love how the daisies turned out and the symmetry with the text. This was actually the first piece out of these four that I decided to add extra petals and buds to the border and I’m so glad I did because I love how it turned out. There are a few parts where my lines got a bit shaky, but I do like how I can see the growth between this one and the very first piece I did.

And with these four pieces, I am done with this project. While I do have some more of these small canvases I can’t find them in stores anymore and I want to do something different with my remaining ones.
Like I said at the beginning of my post I have done previous pieces like this with FOB, Panic!, and TOP so I’ll leave the links to those posts here.

ART SCHOOL | INTERVIEW WITH JON CARLING
Scratchy black and white drawings and the ink meanderings of artist Jon Carling have always caught our eye. They’re like something out of a weird dream or out of an ancient children’s book–,and they’re always captivating. We’ve been following his prolific drawing career for a long time and recently caught up with Jon to find out more about his inspirations, his early artistic influences, and his recent dip into animating his beautiful works.
Photographs courtesy of the artist.
Introduce yourself?  And where you’re from or currently residing? What’s your favorite thing about the city? My name is Jon Carling. I am an independent artist living in Oakland, California. I love the landscape. The beauty of the Northern Californian coastline is a life long inspiration to me.
How would you describe your work to someone who is just coming across it? Scratchy ink drawings, some scribbling, mostly black and white.  Weird children's book art.
How did you first get interested in drawing or figure out that you had a knack creating awesome art? I have always really enjoyed making stuff.   Drawing is really a habit from childhood, I would  escape into my sketchbook, and my imagination, making up worlds. It is an awesome feeling to manifest ideas with some degree of success.  That feeling is what keeps me doing it after all of these years.
Who and what were some of your early artistic influences? What artists inspire you these days? Early on, I loved Saturday Morning Cartoons, After school Cartoons, Fucking Sesame Street.  All the 80s kids' stuff.  Garfield Volumes, The Far Side, and Calvin & Hobbes.
When I was 6 or 7, a comic book store opened near my house, and that had a huge impact.  The dude who ran it, Butch, was an old hippie dude who also had a huge collection of Japanese comics and toys. This is when Voltron and Robotech had just started airing in the U. S. . It was perfect timing to be exposed to all that incredible art.Greek Myths by D'Aulaires was my first book, and basically my bible.  I think you can see the influence on my work from that book.
These days, I have been studying animation, so, I have been admiring the classic cartoons and animation from early film, all the way up to today.  I have been reading 'Elemental Magic' by Joseph Gilland. It is a book all about traditional animation special effects.  Amazing.
Not only do you produce a lot of drawings, but also create zines and now dabbling in animation. Tell us a little bit about how you ended up animating your drawings? Obviously, I have a love for cartoons.  Creating a cartoon of my own has been something I have dreamed of forever.  I have created short animations over the years using traditional methods: Paper and pen on a light table, scanning everything into photoshop, and putting it all together in there.  It takes forever, and it can be pretty discouraging when you are sitting there doing data entry for hours.
Recently, a friend let me try out his Ipad Pro, and I am blown away by how much better the pen interface has become.  I got excited about the possibilities for animating and started researching tablets.  And, after years of being very reluctant to using digital tools to make my work, I finally got a drawing tablet.  I ended up getting the Samsung S4 tablet instead of the Ipad Pro because I feel like the pen and the screen are better suited for me and my work. I am using it everyday, I love how fast and clean the process is, while keeping the feel of my lines.  Now I have a Huion Kamvas monitor for my computer too, I am getting the feel for the whole process, but, I am excited about what I can do now.
As exciting as it is, pen and paper is always closest to my heart.
What are your essential art tools and materials? I really just need a sketchbook, a pencil (Sumogrip .5) , and a pen (Pilot Hi-Tec-C 03). If I have that with me, I am quite happy.
How do your ideas take shape? How do you get from start to finish? What’s your process? I love to daydream.  I have a bunch of ongoing stories in my head that I always turn to if I want to go somewhere.Other times, I just draw without any idea or expectation.  I follow the pencil and start fleshing things out.I love phrases, sometimes out of context.  A simple phrase can be the spark for a huge idea.
How has your style of drawing changed or evolved? What allows you to grow artistically? I don't know what is changing exactly.  The cross-over digital art is new, so, I am sure it will alter my work to some degree.I feel like I am always refining and hammering out a more perfect version of the world in my head.
What has been the most challenging project you’ve worked on? Last year, I had the opportunity to illustrate Carlo Collodi's 'Pinoccio' for an Italian publisher. It was almost 200 illustrations with a tight schedule.  It was just an epic amount of drawing, and when it was finished, I was able to travel to Italy for the release, and it just turned into a really magical experience.
What was the hardest thing about it and the most rewarding? The discipline to complete the work, while maintaining quality that honors the book.  It was a grind for large portions of the work, but, the end result made me realize how much good comes out of genuine work applied to a dream.
What was your last adventure that showed up in one of your illustrations, thematically or just visually? Oh, it probably had something to do with a dream that involved a bird headed soldier dragging my injured body off  the battlefield.
What advice would you give someone who wants to follow in your footsteps and pursue art? Make sure you are doing it regardless if it is your "job".  I am passionate about drawing, it is what I do, I don't see it as my career.  First and foremost, I do it for myself.
What’s your best Art School tip that you want to share with folks? By all means, enjoy yourself, and the time you have.  I would make sure you have put yourself in the direction that fits best with your specific way of creating.Art School costs so much money, I don't think a truly determined person needs to go at all.  If you love art, and the creative process, you will seek knowledge. The debt from art school can crush any hopes for a fulfilling career in the field.
What are your favorite style of VANS? I love the ComfyCush Era style and fit.  They are extremely comfortable and look super cool.I also love the traditional white slip-ons, they are the best shoe in the world to draw on.
Anything you can share that is coming up? Last year, I created a limited hand cast resin figurine of my 'Traveling Witch' character. You can purchase the second edition in my Etsy store, along with other witch loot. FOLLOW JON | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM | SHOP

36 and what a world I have seen
Honestly I’ve been terrible at journalling lately. Love handwriting in quill and ink style, but my current life leaves me exhausted after work and most of my time spent in education. But currently the Covid-19 pandemic made me consider the important world events I have witnessed.
Born in 1984 I lived in a world of rapidly changing technology but still being forced outside to play. We always had an Apple computer in our house for as long as I can remember. Played the Oregon Trail in black and white, then in color. That was the standard computer game of my childhood. Mom got us Mario Teaches Typing, probably the only “video game” I ever played at that point. AOL was a thing. All those CDs in the mail with updates. I never really got into it, but my twin sister did.
Also a child of the Disney Golden Age of animation. Dramatically influenced my life to the point I went to work for Walt Disney World after college. Still a Disney fanatic to this day.
Apparently my family visited Yellowstone National park (age 4? too young to remember anyway) then not too long after the park had the fire.
Was alive though not conscious of world events when the Berlin Wall fell. Watch the birth of CNN during the first Desert Storm when my dad was there overseeing some of the first drone flights. The military required a pilot on hand for those flights. He told us later how some Iraqis would surrender to the drone plane, not that it was ever one of the ones he supervised. And according to my mom I frequently asked to NOT watch the 24 hour stream of news because it was too depressing and I knew that’s where dad was.
Really started to pay attention to news (not that l enjoyed it but that’s the timeline for how chidden develop) during the O.J. Simpson trial.
By that point I had lived on both coasts of the USA, crossed country twice, lived in many different environments from Washington’s cold wet seasons to California’s deserts California’s coast to landlocked suburbia of Georgia.
Where I learned to drive, had a single Nokia phone for me and my twin in our tiny Cabrio convertible (I hate convertibles). Got a personal computer for the first time, where before it was a single family computer. The iMacs were coming out right when we were heading to college. My sister got the desktop, I got the laptop and have never looked back. Still have my gumstick shuffle iPod floating around and it still works.
Got to watch the insanity of Indecision 2000 and appreciate political humor for the first time.
I’ve been to 9 different schools for 12 years of school, not including college. That would make it ten. Was a freshman in high school when the Columbine shootings happened. Some weeks later we had a pipe bomb threat at our school which forced all the students out to the football field. From the top of the bleachers we could see the bomb squad and their dogs entering the school. All I could think of was if someone really wanted to kill at lot of people, there on the bleachers would be the place to do it. Then at some point in my adult life someone did it at a movie theater showing The Dark Knight.
Saw the images of the Oklahoma City bombing. Heard about the Unabomber. Watched the Waco Texas incident.
But my senior year was the time of 9/11. My math class was out in the hallway doing a math related science type experiment, can’t tell you what it was. But that day was the only day I have ever heard a school of nearly 5,000 students absolutely silent during class change. Thus Desert Storm part two happened.
Right before I headed off to college. So I wasn’t super savvy about applying to colleges. I only applied to one. Didn’t have a clue as to what I wanted to do with my life. I’ve done a wide variety of sports, been writing fiction since at least 10 years old, drew and painted fairly well, thought about doing animation or architecture (did a semester learning thing with a local firm, decided it wasn’t for me).
Ended up getting a degree in two foreign languages but not fluent in either. It did greatly improve my understanding of the English language. And I had the privilege of an exchange program for a school year to Japan, plus of study abroad summer to Germany. Would never regret any of that. Even if it didn’t get me a degree that got me a job.
Instead I went to Disney World as part of their internship program. Been in foods and hospitality for a significant portion of my life (thus far). Loved working there. Got to work with the Characters and it was fabulous. Even with the frustrations of all work environments.
But it couldn’t last. Minimum wage was raised, but the cost of living out stripped the earnings for a single person living alone. Prompting a move back home with parents to get another degree. Then the Housing bubble burst, loans defaulted, mortgage crisis, resulting in the Great Recession. It did get me a house in my name but basically an income property for my mom as her inheritance from my grandmother. All the while I’m going to school to be a nurse.
Now let’s not forget about the many weather crises I’ve witnessed via the news. Hurricanes Katrina, Sandy, Harvey, Maria to name the ones I easily remember. The Class 5 tornado that wiped out a midwestern town. The volcano in Iceland rerouting planes. The tsunami in Indonesia and Sumatra. The massive earthquake in Haiti. These are only the ones that easily come to mind without researching what happened during the years I’ve been alive.
Not to mention the diseases that I’ve seen via the news. First to mind was the Ebola outbreak while I was in nursing school. Saw the hype on the Swine Flue, SARS, Avian flu to name a few easily remembered. Those never reached me personally. Now it’s Covid-19 unfolding. Called SARS-CoV-19 now, but that later.
But its not all disasters. Went to the Atlanta Centennial Olympics still have the t-shirt. Was alive during the first black president.
Took part in the massive phenomena that was Harry Potter and still love it to this day. It showed me that fiction/fantasy could be a mainstream genre to write for. I started writing FanFiction at that time to fill in the long spaces between books. Started when fan fiction.net had the 7or 8 main characters to choose from for tagging. It was like the Wild West of figuring out what you were about to read. Learned about Slash, yaoi, lemons and such the hard way. But being exposed to it that way did open my eyes to what goes on in other people’s heads. Knew immediately that just because I didn’t like something didn't mean I had to hate on it. I left it alone once found and kept going. Really helped increase my tolerance to other cultures and thoughts.
Met my best friend on a role playing site and we wrote nonstop during our college years. Went to her wedding, have a lovely Renaissance style dress as a bridesmaid gift. Still am in touch with her. We don’t write together any more as we have moved in our lives with adulting. But I still have all those stories and hope to turn them into something.
Had my first camera cell phone in Japan as just a basic free phone. Was shocked to find cameras in the States were not standard. One of my friends in Japan kept doing selfies before they were called selfies. Blind positioning of the camera for pictures. Then came the iPhone and the world never looked back.
Joined Facebook when it required a college email. Used MSN messenger and Yahoo messenger to communicate with people around the world. Didn’t join the Twitter or Tumblr movement until after they became established. Saw the boom and bust of the Dot.Com bubble. Watched the Dow Jones numbers increase without the income to invest the way they said to.
Lived right above the poverty line during the Recession. Not knowing if I could make it the next month. Never being able to claim poverty on the tax forms. Caught in the income dead space of not being able to afford health insurance from the markets but in a state that didn’t allow for Medicaid expansion.
But I do not have the worry now thankfully.
Jobs wise I’ve been a telemarketer, dishwasher, a line cook, a hostess, server, janitor, assistant manager, and now I’m a nurse. I started on med/surg, ED, Cardiac, and ICU. In a small rural hospital getting smaller in a time when rural were shutting down because of no funding. They serve areas with a high rates of unemployment, uninsured, drug and alcohol abuse.
Worked at a busier hospital were no bed was left empty. Sicker patients. Work in a mid-size place. Some days super busy, some slower.
Covid-19 had the affect of somehow doing both. First few days was almost empty, now it fluctuates. Mostly rule outs. And the protocols are changing hourly which makes life frustrating for us. It’s the constant unspoken threat of going into work not knowing if you’ll have the right equipment to do the job. I’m not scared of the virus itself, not even of the collapse of the economy. I’m scared of the surge that will put my coworkers at risk.
I live alone (my little sister lives with me now) so very little contact with others. But they have kids and a much closer physical distance to their older parents. I know I will add days to my weeks if they have to stay out for any length of time.
So this is the first time a world event as truly affected me. It is a terrifying time which prompted this summary of my life so far.
I went into a restaurant and saw no one. I never thought I’d see that day. I don’t want people to loose their income, but if people were to go about their daily activities we would loose so many in one go. All I can do is my job.
The more I watch the more depressed and stressed. At work is worse.
I’m teaching myself a new craft because of this. I have taken up leather working to make masks. It helps the creativity outlet. I started drawing class early in 2020 and was set to continue drawing and add painting when the social distancing started. I admit it felt overblown in the beginning. Now the numbers are changing rapidly and we are really seeing what happens in close communities. Just keep working. It’s part of life now. No matter how much if feels like a movie plot line.
But back to other things I’ve seen.
LGTBQA and others coming into the forefront of society. Saw legalization of gay marriage. Quite thrilled with that.
Didn’t hear the term Asexual in reference to a sexual preference until my early 20s. Immediately recognized similar stories to me. Never had an interest in sex or having a partner. A name did make things more relatable, but I will never fully understand people who seem to base their entire existence on their sexual preference.
I’ve been call sir many times based on how I dress. I still sound like a female. Can’t fault anyone for using the appropriate pronoun for what they see in front of them. But that’s a culture that’s growing. Preferred pronouns. But I have to admit that an online friend referred to me as “they” despite a lady being in my username and it felt nice. So in honor of the Special Snowflake term that floated around, I’m an nonbinary aromantic asexual. Probably with a fem-romanitic leaning.
Saw the rise of the Millennials. I’m caught between Gen X and the Millennials. Now that all the Millennials are of age to vote, perhaps change is underway?
I’m back in college for my 3rd and then 4th degree. In nursing. Online. Watching the world combat a virus.
A US that is split down the middle politically. A world with more pollution problems than we can handle. Governments preferring to coverup mistakes and corruption than help their citizens. The term Public Servant is obviously not taken seriously in some places. See Flint, MI and their water. Lobbyists creating bills that benefit corporations rather than people. Politicians that never retire and keep getting lucrative reelection donations from those very corporations.
The rise of narcotic drug use, prescription drugs. Pill mills.
Sex scandals taking center stage in the news rather than things that actually affect daily life. Among things I will never understand is the fear of Transgender women in the women’s restrooms when it was always a straight conservative man who was the center of all these sex scandals.
Asexual brain at work. I simply do not understand. Conclusion: If you look like a certain gender, you’ll most often be treated as that gender.
What I do miss were the kid shows and cartoons in the 90s. They were super progressive with great literature themes. I knew the story of some of the greatest classic literature simply by the references in those shows.
Also the era of War on Drug commercials. Recycling promoted.
My favorite: Captain Planet. Not only was it pushing for a cleaner earth it had different nationalities. Stereotypical, but a far better representation than what I am seeing in kids shows today. It was diverse in that multiple skin tones were seen on screen together rather than specific skin tones marketed to that specific demographic. Now I do like how many more cultures are represented, I just want them shown in ways where color and culture is not the primary focus.
It also surged a desire to protect the planet. The knowledge that we need clean water and air. Educational shows like Magic School Bus and Bill Nye explained what is happening in the environment long before Global Warming became political. With the global shut in we see the world cleansing itself.
Now the marijuana legalization issue. No one has died from overdosing on weed. Unlike Alcohol. Yes smoke isn’t good for your health like cigarettes, but the complications are not as prevalent, well studied, or as life threatening with what is known. The disconnect of state legalization and national illegalities is mind blowing. I hope to see that break so we can study it.
Overall I know I have seen a lot of historical events and I hope to live another 36 plus years to see more. 3 decades, the change of a century and the change of the millennia. Y2K hysteria included.
The world is changing. The outcome is unknown. Peace be upon us all.

This may be the earliest verse I ever recorded. I wrote this verse from the perspective of my rhyme book. At the time, I was struggling with being confident with my love for rap. I wondered what my rhyme book would say to me if it knew I was often ashamed of it.
Here are the lyrics: You've poured your soul on me I was born to be your fortress and your poetry is sort of like my source of life so stop ignoring me You've stored me underneath your bed so now while you're asleep I'm up all night In the morning it's still dark as I explore your deepest thoughts You're ashamed of me that's basically what tore us so apart I know exactly who you are I can hear the way you talk to your parents You're embarrassed that you hold me in your heart That's that shit that made me doubt our friendship Tear my pages out But I gave you power that's something that you never think about We'll see what you're made of now As you make way without me Path to greatness, you won't take it You'll just find a basic route Now my binding is loose My pages wrinkled and tattered Ink is splattered all over me I can't distinguish a pattern All my pages fall out You drop to your knees to gather and try to tape me together But I don't think it matters
It's been a while since I took your time.
Sincerely,
Your Book of Rhymes
(Instrumental is from Twenty-One Pilots song “Car Radio”)

The Ink Demonth [by Halfusek] Day 14: Theories
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SPOILER TIME!
\Also, you will get some violence (but no blood), sad and mature things/
I drew, do costume, animated a cutscene, I think it’s the good day for Writing! I never go watch, read or know theories because I’m not a fan of, I just wanted play the game, appreciate it, and try to understand myself the story, without any influence of others. Of course, it’s like I have do myself a theory, because I headcanon some details about some element in game (like the reason of the visible name of Frank Fontaine in the administration room) and write a pre-story for explain the game. Sorry for mistakes, english is not my main langage! Now, time for the (very long) reading and I hope you will like it!
One day, while Joey Drew, Wally Franks and Henry Stein share a dinner, they talk about this project to create an animation studio. Joey wanted to be between Warner Animation studios and Walt Disney studios, Henry was an artist, daydreaming and love drawing - and how beautiful was his draws - and Wally was a devoted man who help so much the both. In this era, making cartoon was a good thing, and has really a public for, because people needed sweet and happy thing to watch for forgot the society problems. Joey Drew and Henry Stein was two brother of a modest family, living in a rural area. Henry work with their father, and Joey choose general study. He couldn’t work like his brother because he was born with a bad leg, make him limp and can’t support heavy charge. The both mutually supportive but Henry keep a certain distance, seems being more independant and less talkative than his bro. Wally was their neighbour and becoming a friend. He come from rich family and studying at the city highschool. Before he meets Joey and Henry, he wanted become a pilot, but Mr. Drew has completely changed his view of the future, and now he want that people smile and laugh with some silly cartoons. And today, Joey Drew studios is a place for Bendy cartoon, a character born under the pen of Henry, on his desk. He had created a first version, but finally leave him because Joey told him that this Bendy look likes Felix the cat and he doesn’t want deal with Mr. Messmer for “copy” his work. Also, Henry rework on it, and finally found the final design. Shaped head round with two sort of horns on the top, black circle pie eyes, and a gentle smile of eight teeth. Dressed with a big bowtie and white gloves, for see the hands even if they are on his black body. In the corner of the hall, where the desk of Henry was, the cartoonist work on story-board and do some keyframes. Because the studio has no windows, there is few lights for keep his eyes safe.
Few days later, Wally bring to Joey and Henry a new guy. The name is Norman Polk, he told to Mr. Drew that he can give him some old projectors who belonged to his sister. The man was a little shy, no really talkative, and leave them quickly. Henry turn his head for see the eyes of Joey. A genious spark was in. With a little irony, he says:
“I know what you think, but you can’t take his life for our cheap studio.
—  Don’t be so rude, Henry. It’s cheap for now, but it will becoming a big empire!
—  What’s that mean, uh? Big empire? With only me for make cartoons? You want kill me!
—  You’re alone for now, and it will be hard to found someone who is talented as you in drawing, but this dream will come true. Trust me.”
Henry sight and smile. Weak body but strong will. And a little stubborn too.
Days and months passed and as Joey told, it was only the begining. Now, there is a woman for story-boarding and the sound. At first, Henry didn’t notice her, doing his work hard and stay at his desk. He don’t see the time, when the sun leave his place for the moon, and just leave his keyframes for basics vital thing, like eating or drinking. And there is this guy who bring them the projectors, Norman is a calm man, and do the work without say any words. The studio become a little more bigger, with some new room. Henry choose to stay in this corner of the entrance hall. As he said: “A cartoonist take some habit for a long time. And when he has it, he never change!”
Because this woman was a story-boarder, she leave the plan to Henry, but she never see him directly. Joey talk about him, and sometime she can hear the two man talk. But when she cross the hall, he’s never at his desk. The lady think this strange, and feel like he avoids her. She wants know why, so, in this morning, she come to the studio in a really early hour and wait at Henry’s desk.
“Hello? Miss? It’s my desk here.
The lady turn his head, surprised by Henry soft voice. When she see his face, his heart miss a beat.
— Uhm... Oh, uh... Sorry mister “the strange guy who is hiding of me”. Mr. Drew was not lying. You draw beautifully, she respond, trying to stay professional. — Thank you. But now, I need to sit here and continue my work. — You are so rude with a sweet lady! So, you win! I will not move!
Henry get distraught. That’s right, it was cold response. Fault to the fact that he works so much that he doesn’t take the time for friendship or even talk with others. He pick up a keyframes lying down on the floor and arrange his messy desk. The woman still not move, as she tolds. Embarrassed, Henry scratches his neck and respond:
— Yeah. It was rude. You will forgive me if I offer you a coffee? —  I drink tea with honey in and two lump of milk. Coffee is for rude man as you, mister.”
She crosses her arms on his chest and close his eyes. Henry understand this little game of her and go buy what she wants.
When he comes back with the tea, he sees Joey, talking to a tall guy, with a rude face. He hold a paper in his hands. The cartoonist see only the word “Money”. When Joey see him with the cup of tea in hands, he gives him a grin smile.
“I see you finally see Mrs. Weddersburg. So? Isn’t a beautiful lady? —  Oh, please, keep your eyes right off of my personal life. she's keeping my office hostage for this tea. It’s only this. — It’s not only this, Henry. I know you. We are brothers. — Not when we work, Mr. Drew.”
Henry leave and give the tea to the woman. She thanks him and say:
“I think you should put this keyframe after this one. And clean up a little your desk. See! A real mess! How you do for not lost yourelf? — It’s an organized mess. — So, Mr. Drew is your brother?
Henry raises an eyebrow, surprised of the question.
— Yes. But... We was always not really close. I consider him as a friend more than my brother. —  You are the less loved child of the both. Because is the younger one and his limping leg. That’s why you are independant, calm and rude with others.
A embarrassed silence echoing between them. Also, the lady stand up and smile.
—  Sorry for that. I... —  No, its okay, don’t worry. —  Maybe we can talk about this in my home, this evening? —  Uh... Wha... I mean, yes. Seems a good idea. —  I will buy coffee for this rude man who hide a sweet heart. —  My name is Henry. —  Yeah, of course, mister “I have an organized mess”.
The both laugh. Before leaving, the lady says:
—  My name is Linda Weddersburg. I will come after your work for go home.”
Tumblr media
One year later, Henry and Linda share their life together. Henry and Joey arguing more last time. The cartoonist feel tired of work, but Joey promise him that will becoming better in next week.
And the next week, while Henry working on a new cartoon, with a new character named Boris, a friendly wolf who love eating, he feel a little dizzy. So, he leaves his desk a little for walking around the studio. He falls on something, in the corridor where the desk of Linda is. A big pipe cross the floor. A sign advertise “watch your step” but it’s too late. Linda come out of his desk and help Henry to stand up, ask him if he’s okay. When the both follow the pipe, they found a new room, with Joey and this same tall man that the last time. Joey notice Henry and Linda and show the imposing machine in the middle of the room.
“ I present you the Ink Machine! With this thing, we can create more easier the cartoons! —  Thanks for that. It was nice if I didn’t fall on this pipe in the middle of the corridor. —  Are you ok? —  It’s late for the question but yeah, thanks for worry about my bones. So this thing can do my work? A machine? —  It’s more complicated. Just keep drawing. I will come later for show you how it’s work.”
The evening, the machine is started. Henry’s heart miss a beat and fall of his chair when he hears the machine start. He mutters to himself, a little frustrated because his ink fall on the floor, and ruined his keyframes. When he recovers and try to clean his work, the ink on his hands suddlendly moving by itself. Surprised, Henry scream, and go back from his desk. The ink cover his skin on his hands and soon his arms. When he look for someone can help him, his eyes cross something more horryfing. A creature, melted in the ink, stand beside the desk. Henry freezes, feel scary. His eyes are rolling back and he hears his own body fall on the floor. When Henry wake up, he sees the walls of his bedroom. He’s lying down on his bed. Linda is sit beside him. She look him with big eyes.
“Oh! You come back in the world of the living! How you feel? —  My head hurt like hell. What’s happened? —  When we found you, your desk was covered of ink, and you too. You had screamed, seems like you had see a ghost. —  It was not a ghost. It was... uh... An inky thing. —  Yeah, your eyes was covered by ink. How have you done this? It was like you take a bath in ink pool! —  Bendy. —  What are you saying? —  It was Bendy. It’s... It’s standing in front of me... The... the ink moving by... —  Shht, it’s okay. It’s okay. Calm down. You’re safe now. It was just overworking. You need sleep. I keep an eye on you, okey?”
When Henry goes back to sleep, Linda look him, worried. It’s more than overworking. It’s seems that his mind slowly break.
A week later, Henry finally come back to his work. He’s more quiet than usual and he losts his smile. His eyes are dull. Linda talk about it with Joey but the man seems doesn’t realize the mental state of his own brother, more worried for the future of the studio. Henry hears Linda arguing with Joey, saying: “You have no future if you kill your only one cartoonist!“ And Joey response scare Henry. His response echoing in his mind: “So, if I risk to kill him, I keep him alive myself!” Keep him alive? What’s that’s mean? Henry notice that he lost a reference drawing. The one for Bendy. He search in all his papers, and look on the floor. There is nothing. When he’s recovering, he sees a black four-fingered hand on the surface of his desk. This time, the cartoonist cover his mouth and nose. Maybe this ink creature can feel him only if it hear him. Suddendly, the creature grab Henry by the neck. He tries to scream for help, but the inky thing force on his neck. With his right hand, he cover the face of Henry. The man cry, despite him. He wants call for help, but no sound come out of his mouth. He chokes because of the ink dripping in his mouth and cough violently. The move save him, the creature lets him fall on the floor.
Henry stay lying down on the floor, he throws up some ink. He feels like his heart will explode, and try to calm down. But he fails. If it’s a hallucination causing by overworking, that’s mean he need to stop the job. He hears Linda run at him and cries: “Oh my god! Henry!” Linda shake him but he can’t move. He feels something wet fall on his face. Linda take his hand. “Henry! Please! Stay with me!” Henry found a little strenght for move his finger, but it’s the only thing that he can does.
Tumblr media
In an far echo, Henry hear Joey’s voice, arguing with someone else.
“It was an accident! I don’t even know what’s happened!”
And there is Wally’s voice.
“The pipe burst often...”
After a moment, Henry try to open his eyes. He hears Joey again.
“It was really an accident, Wally. I found the room open, this grinning thing wandering around. I can’t understand why it’s attacked Henry!”
Linda’s voice intterupt Joey and Wally.
“Because this thing wanted his soul. If it wanted kill him, Henry would be dead.”
And an unknow voice.
“About death, what will you tell to others? You will fake his death and replace it?”
Tumblr media
28 years later, in a little city, Henry come out for take the letters from the mailbox. He lives with Linda and has a beautiful child. He leaves finally Joey Drew with his studio, and found another job, far away from animation. His wife has a new job too, and the child go to the school. She sees sometime his uncle Joey, when he’s home or come here. Back to the living room, Henry sit on the sofa and take his cup of tea, prepared by his wife, and read the newspaper.
“See, honney? Local artist pushed himself too hard, found dead at desk. Heh! It’s my face! —  Joey could has doing better. It’s not your best profile. —  And black clothes doesn’t look good on me. It’s make me rude. —  Talking about the old things, give me your arm. It’s time to take your medicine. — Great. — Don’t give me that face, sweetheart. It’s for your good sake. It keeps you human.
Henry sight. He’ cleenching his teeth when the needle go throught his skin. When it’s done, Henry rub his arm and says:
— You mean it’s keep me alive. With this body stuck between an ink thing and a human. —  It’s okey, sweetheart. You have the same face that before. Your body is stable with this thing, even if it’s not pleasant. —  Thanks Joey, you have ruined my young life. That’s why I don’t want let our child alone with him. Joey is a specialist for take others’s life for his “empire”. —  It’s your turn to go wake her up, by the way.”
Henry kisses his wife softly and go in the child’s bedroom. Since the “accident” where Henry drown in ink, he’s not a normal human anymore. So, with the help of some others worker of the studio, they found a medicine for keep him human, the more as possible. Of course, because his ink part, he can does strange thing with his body, like the physics of the cartoons that he’s drew before. Linda comfort him by saying some joke, like is usefull for take too higher or far stuff that’s she needs for cooking. Or for keep an eye on their child when she sleeping, without disturb her. Also, he dreams almost all night the same thing, about him alone in the studio, wandering for get out and encounter ink monsters. Alison Pendle send them a letter for say that its normal, she get the same dreams where she meet Henry and try to explain that all of this never exist, just tought. Henry is right, his life was ruined and now, even if he lives, it’s changed. He can’t come back to the old town, because the newspaper announce his death. Linda sigh  and see a letter from Joey Drew. She take the envelope and says: “You even cheat the death itself, Joey.”

Joker Asserts Dominance Over Banjo
It was a wild day at the Smash Mansion. It had been revealed that Terry Bogard would be making his way to Smash Bros, Banjo and Kazooie had finally arrived, and even SANS (from Undertale) was here! It was exciting for the fellow fighters to meet Sans, along with Banjo and his Bird friend. Everyone was crowded around the bear and bird duo, along with the skeleton.
Everyone except for Joker, that is.
As much as he wanted to meet Sans (he was a big fan of Undertale), he was scanning the scene with an air of dismay. He was almost certain he had been replaced by Banjo and his bitchy bird (who was not unlike Morgana), as they crowded around him and bombarded him with questions about his hometown now that Gruntilda wasn’t terrorizing Spiral Mountain anymore.
He secretly yearned to be at the spotlight, savoring his extremely extra and flashy moments as a Phantom Thief. But with Banjo being a cultural icon, it wasn’t very likely that he would be getting the spotlight soon.
Actually, scratch that.
Make it never.
He would never be popular ever again. He frowned as he gazed longingly at the other fighters, wishing they would notice he wasn’t there. But they wouldn’t. They wouldn’t notice him. Not over Banjo. He glared at the pudgy bear as his saddened frown turned into a rage-filled grimace. That bear, the one that took all his friends from him and left him to rot.
Damn him.
Damn him to the darkest, most sin filled pits of hell.
Hey, wait a minute.
Sin.
Joker’s eyes widened as the back of his mind made a plan. A devious plan to get rid of Banjo and Kazooie once and for all. A smirk split across his lips as his tongue licked and covered them with saliva. “I know what to do…” The Phantom Thief muttered devilishly as he slunk further into the shadows, planning on hatching his wicked plan very, very soon. “You better enjoy your time here, scuzz-fur and bird brain, for it’ll be very short.” He chuckled ominously as he disappeared from view.
***
It had been three days since Banjo, Kazooie, and Sans had come to stay at the Smash Mansion. It had been eventful, to say the least. The child fighters always fought over who would get to fight Banjo next, Pit would always be next to Sans, cracking terrible angel-themed puns (which Sans himself highly approved of) and Fox was surprisingly the only one to wonder where the actual hell Joker went. The vulpine pilot brought this up at the lunch table while talking to Palutena, Olimar, Kirby, and Ganondorf.
Palutena made a face like she left the oven on at her home as she realized that Joker was gone for the span of three days and she never noticed. “I don’t think he’s in trouble, he can take care of himself. He did kill a god, after all.” She said, despite the immense guilt and worry seeping into her words.
“You don’t sound so sure of that Palu.” Fox replied.
Kirby piped up. “You think he ran away cause he thought we didn’t love him anymore?”
McCloud’s ears flattened against his skull as remorse flooded his senses. “Considering his past, it’s very possible.” He said sadly.
“And the fact we’ve been basically latching onto Banjo and Kazooie doesn’t make it any better.” Ganondorf pointed out.
“You’re right, though I wish you weren’t…” Olimar, who had stayed silent the whole time they were talking, decided to put his piece onto the puzzle and help them in what way he could by throwing his input out there.
They all decided to put all their efforts into finding Joker and convincing him that he was still loved and wanted in the Smash Mansion.
***
“Where do you think he’ll be at 5:30?” Joker’s voice questioned.
“I dunno. Probably the garden.” Sans shrugged.
“Great! You just have to walk up to him, start up a conversation, tell him that there’s a fighter he never met, bring him to me, and bingo! Considering your charisma, quick wits, and his stupidity, there’s a 100% guarantee this’ll all work out!” Joker shot up from his seat and clapped his hands, fully knowing Banjo and Kazooie were going to get what they deserved very soon.
“Hehe. The funniest thing about this plan is that it’s not really a lie. There really is a fighter he never met, due to you hiding yourself so well.” Sans chuckled dryly.
Joker shrugged and nodded his head in agreement before sitting down once more. He looked at the clock. It was 5:27. He smiled broadly as he turned to his bony accomplice. “It’s time!” He beamed. “Sans, you must go to the garden!”
The skeleton winked at his Phantom Thief friend as he got up and started to walk out before turning his head towards Joker quizitivly. “What do you plan to do with them once you have them, kiddo?” He asked.
His beaming smile turned into a sadistic smirk as his eyes narrowed in an almost lusty way. “Something very, very wicked, my bony friend!”
Sans snorted loudly. “Okay. You do you kiddo. But i’m watching.” The skeleton had the final say as he left the room with an objective in mind for once.
***
It was bright and sunny when the bear Banjo and his bird friend Kazooie (who was tucked away in his backpack) strode into the garden to look at the flowers and cool his mind. He had been there for a few minutes when he heard the sound of someone walking towards him. He turned around to see Sans strolling on the path, while absentmindedly looking around, until setting his eyes on Banjo and waving to get his attention.
Banjo waved back and hopped over to the skeleton. “Lovely day, isn’t, Sans?” He cheerily called out. Sans shrugged his trademark shrug. “Yeah, I could guess so.” He replied. “Guessing is all you can do with that thick skull of yours, hollow-head!” Kazooie crowed. Banjo slapped the breegull on the back while muttering a hushed “Kazooie!” reprimandingly and looked up. “I’m very sorry about that, Sans.” He apologized profusely. Sans shrugged once again. “Nah, it’s nothin kid. Besides, I need you to come with me. Apparently there’s one fighter we somehow never met. I was shocked myself when I first met him. He’s a real piece of work, that’s what I say.”
Banjo’s shocked expression turned into one of excitement. “Well where is he, Sans?” The bear asked. The skeleton chuckled. “He’s somewhere in the back halls. Here, i’ll take you to him.” Banjo nodded swiftly and excitedly as he walked behind Sans, who showed them the way.
Sans snickered silently as he led the way to, unknowingly to Banjo and Kazooie, their doom.
Mission accomplished.
***
The door to the storage room opened as Sans walked into it with Banjo and Kazooie behind him. The group looked around the place in confusion as they wondered where this missing fighter actually was. Sans scratched his head, despite how impossible it may seem. “Huh. That’s strange. I thought he would be here.”
“Why would he be in a storage closet?” Kazooie piped up. Sans said nothing as he used his telekinesis to shut and lock the door, much to Banjo and Kazooie’s surprise. Banjo turned over to Sans while Kazooie flew out of the bag and attempted in vain to open the door. “S-Sans! What are you doing!” He gasped out.
“Helping me, worm-face!” A mysterious voice boomed. The lights went brighter, enough to reveal the mysterious figure, a teenager with a coal black ankle-length tailcoat, along with a dark gray high-necked waistcoat, that was embellished with shimmering gold accents, ink-colored pants, brownish-black shoes with pointed tips, a pair of  bright red gloves, a black and white birdlike domino mask which drew attention to his eyes, which were blood red and almost glowing. The boy grinned as he descended from the top of the shelf, crimson eyes shimmering evily.
“Hey! Who are you?” Kazooie squawked loudly, obviously angry at being betrayed by Sans. The masked teenager smirked. “The name’s Ren. Ren Amamiya. But to all, I am known as Joker, the Phantom, the Trickster, and, hell, some even know me as Akira Kurusu, although Akira Kurusu is actually my middle name.” He cleared his throat. “But enough with that, I shall soon have my revenge, so you don’t need to hear my life story.”
Banjo tilted his head. “Revenge? On us? Why?” He asked in confusion. Joker shook his head. “Ever since you came here, nobody has talked to me, or even noticed that I was gone! Before you came along, I was loved and cherished by all! You stole everything from me!” He started to quiver with rage, and jealous, anger filled tears began to grow in his eyes as he lost more and more of his composure and began to be driven more and more by his own hatred. “And you’ll pay!” He growled. “You’ll pay for everything!” He snarled as he lunged straight for Banjo, whose eyes were wide and scared, and gripped him by his arms, claw-like fingers drawing blood from the frightened bear, eyes wide, insane, and flickering from blood red to silvery gray.
Kazooie then leapt onto Joker and started pecking at his hair, to which the phantom released Banjo and started scratching and clawing furiously at the freegull before finally hitting her hardly in the chest and watching her fly from his head to the ground in a crumpled mess. “Banjo…” She coughed weakly. “G-get out of here now…” Banjo shook his head and tried to run over to Kazooie, but tripped and fell over a bone which Sans conjured. The skeleton walked over and tied up the bear securely, so that he couldn’t escape while Joker did the same for Kazooie. The phantom thief crouched next to Kazooie and grinned. “I’m going to enjoy this a lot.” He taunted. Kazooie grimaced. “What are you going to do, scum-bag?” Joker brightened up, despite just being insulted. “This.” He said right before grabbing Kazooie and licking her beak. The breegull squawked in disgust as Joker licked her a second time before putting her head inside his mouth. Kazooie cawed and crowed as she attempted to escape Joker’s maw, but to no avail as Joker continued to swallow her whole until she was fully in his stomach chamber, making sure to remove the ropes binding the bird. Joker licked his lips and patted his bulging stomach contently, whereas Banjo looked the fighter in fear, for he had just watched Kazooie get eaten alive, by a teenage boy, no less! Banjo’s eyes widened and he gulped as Joker set his sights on the bear and started to walk in his direction. The phantom crouched, his distended belly sticking out. He tilted Banjo’s head up to his eye level. “You’re gonna be with her soon, so don’t worry about a thing.”
“Kinky.” Sans commented as Joker loosened the ropes on Banjo so that he could eat him easier. Joker then licked his nose, before putting his face inside his mouth and gulping and, despite the bear’s struggling, managed to swallow him whole as well. He fell to the floor huffing and puffing after he found out he was too heavy to move. Despite this, Joker was being washed over by a wave of euphoria that wasn’t about to end any time soon. He rubbed at his own stomach, not understanding why the hell he was so happy about it, but then it hit him: Banjo and Kazooie were at his mercy. If he decided not to lift a finger, they would both be converted into pudge on his figure, and he liked that. A whole fucking lot. Perhaps, he thought, perhaps he would try this on someone else. Maybe that meddlesome assist trophy Waluigi would be an ideal next target, for he was very, very annoying. Maybe.

WIP Questions tag game
*strolls into the spotlight and taps the microphone* yo- Does this thing work?
Sup my dudes! So guess whos back doing a tag game that isn’t a last line tag for the first time since *checks watch* like august 2018? This bitch.
I’ve been tagged for this one so many times that my brain short circuited and I can’t for the life of me remember who’s tagged me. Most recently though was the lovely af @cohldhands and the sweetest @chalky-charlie welp im sorry everyone else that i’ve forgotten ily
I’m going to answer these for Good For Something (because I can’t remember if i’ve done this before)
rules: answer the questions, then tag some people.
1: Describe the plot in one sentence
A good-for-nothing Common’s delinquent is payed good money to assassinate a known Noble murderer, and fails only to discover a not so secret world of magic, abilities, demons and platonic soulmates.
2: Pick one sight, smell, sound, feel, and taste to describe the aesthetic for your WIP.
Sight: Flickering neon signs illuminating foggy alleyways
Smell: Gasoline
Sound: Sirens and gunshots
Feel: The sharp edge of shattered glass
Taste: The first sip of black coffee
3: Which 3+ songs would make a playlist for your novel?
I wont use any songs on my actual gfs playlist but i’ll give you some new ones
 dead af - Krewella
What’s Up Danger (with Black Caviar)
Stronger - The Score
Triggered - Chase Atlantic
My Blood - Twenty One Pilots
Leave a Light On - Tom Walker
4: What’s the time period and location in which your novel takes place?
GFS is set on a fantasy continent named the God’s Continent. GC is split in half with the north being a country called Noble and the south being a country called Commons. 30 years prior to GFS commons fell to Noble rule officially. Nobody bellow the border respects it. Noble are more traditionalist in nature, content to their rural life and ‘old fashioned values’. Common’s prefers innovation, technology and crime to get by.
Good For Something is primarily set in South Commons City. Not a very nice place, really.
5: Are there any former titles you’ve considered but discarded?
Before I decided on GFS, the working title was just “The Call of The Void” after the phenomenon of l’appel du vide which is basically like the phenomena of intrusive thoughts which are like “Oh this is so high up I could jump off this ledge” or “I could steer my car straight into traffic right now, huh?” but when someone isn’t actually suicidal. They’re usually random and fleeting thoughts. Its also called HPP (the high place phenomenon). Its a pretty cool concept that I thought related well to GFS.
I also found it pretty cool bc in GFS there are these people called Voidians who worship the void element. Most of em are dead. Most.
But yeah, I decided against it. Occasionally I still refer to it as The Call of The Void quartet or series.
6: What’s the first line of your novel?
“I woke up in a puddle of my own vomit to the sound of sirens and gunshots.”
7: What’s a line of dialogue you’re particularly proud of?
Tumblr media
I stole this from a last line tag i did but i do love this scene!!!!
8: Which line from the novel most represents it as a whole?
“I ran out of second chances long ago.“
"You’ll never run out of chances so long as there are people still willing to give them.”
9: Who are your character(s) face claims?
I have too many character in GFS to put them all here but you can find face claim photos for my main cast on my wip page.
I can give you Ciel and August though bc I have the pics saved on my desktop!
Ciel: Erika Linder
Tumblr media
August: Liam Aiken
Tumblr media
10: Sort your characters into Hogwarts houses.
Ciel: Slytherin
August: Slytherin
Trainor: Hufflepuff
Kruse: Ravenclaw
Blood: Gryffindor
11: Which character’s name do you like the most?
Tbh I love Hepton the best purely because I made it up when I was 11 and never changed it lmfao.
12: Describe each character’s daily outfit.
Ciel: Hoodies, sports bras, sweatpants, baseball cap
August: Button down shirt, ripped jeans, leather jacket. Or house uniform: maroon blazer, black tie, black trousers
Trainor: His house uniform - blue blazer, black tie, black trousers
Kruse: His house uniform - white blazer, black tie, black trousers
Blood: Her house uniform - white blouse, maroon pinafore dress.
13: Do any characters have any distinctive birthmarks/scars?
Ciel has a fuck load of tattoos, and kinda collects scars and scrapes over the course of the books.
August has lots of healed self harm scars on his forearms.
Trainor has a birth mark on his knee.
Kruse has nothing.
Blood’s fingers permanently looked dipped in ink because of her curse (power)
14: Which character most fits a character trope?
Trainor fits the Dumb Thot comic relief trope on the surface level but he’s so much more than that and i love him
15: Which character is the best writer? Worst?
Kruse is the best writer, but in an academic sense. Cube or Saintly would be the best writers in a creative sense.
16: Which character is the best liar? Worst?
Arguably, Ciel is simultaneously the best and worst liar.
17: Which character swears the most? Least?
Ciel and August fight for the title of who has the worst potty mouth. Blood and Kruse never swear.
18: Which character has the best writing? Worst?
Blood and August have the prettiest handwriting. Train and Ciel’s handwriting is illegible.
19: Which character is the most like you? Least like you?
This is a difficult one. I’d say im most likely a mixture between Bryn, Ari and Blood. Like... partial sweet bean, partial mom friend but also takes no shit and drinks too much iced coffee.
20: Which character would you most like to be?
None of them, theyre all deeply flawed and stupid idiots but I love them. But, I don’t think i’d want to be any of them lmfao.
Yay!!! Done!!!! I hope ya’ll enjoyed if you read it to the end!
I’m going to tag @carrotgirl-1 @notanotherhour @elonanwrites @atinydino @elliewritesstories @chaos-reign @shireduchess @yuutfa @zielenheil (No pressure if you don’t want to or have already done it! uwu I wanna hear ya’ll talk about ur stuff ily)
