GREENHOUSE BUILD SET in Image Spectra by amoebae

I used the slatted wall from the Greenhouse Haven kit in my last build and thought it could do with some more colours. Then I realised I should really do the windows and doors to match. And then I remembered the gable end. And the roof. And the plain wall.

So here they are! They all come in the Image Spectra palette. The windows and doors have separate catalogue entries for the different types of glazing: clear, lattice (shown in screenshot), and mesh. That leads to lots of package files, so I've merged them together.

The roof looks funky. I can never get them right. They're always too bright. It looks fine from inside, but you might want to avoid the lighter colours if you're planning on taking screenshots of the outside. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.

Meet new sewing pattern <Komugi> Over shirt

A new item is just published from Waffle Patterns. Meet Over shirt <Komugi> sewing pattern, a work wear style over shirt with many functional pockets. Depending on your fabric and design choice, it will be a work shirt, uniform-like service shirt or outdoor style shirt jacket. You can make just a simple shirt as well.

<design options>

View A features a hidden button stand front opening + patch side pockets + an inside pocket. The patch side pockets are 2 types ; side opening or layered type. The cuff is no-opening design.

View B has a normal button stand + seam pocket + back bent and cuff opening.

The chest pocket design has 2 options, layer type or zipper pocket.

View A is intended as non-scratch design suitable for a work shirt especially if you are working on fragile things. View B can be made as a more outdoor-like shirt jacket with details like cuff openings or a vent. But of course you can choose and mix the options as you like!

The khaki sample in the photos features viewA, and the red plaid one is view B. The caramel brown one has mixed features.

My favourite feature is the sleeve patches. Adding compliment textures/colours is really fun! But you can sew without them, too.

Please make your creative style by mixing your favourite details.

<fabric recommendation>

The pattern is drafted for woven fabrics. Light-medium weight durable shirt fabrics are recommended. like corduroy, duck, twill, denim, linen, flannel, light wool or canvas etc.

It is not impossible to use very light drapery fabric, but those are not suitable for some details like patch pockets or vent.

Also, some very thick/stiff fabrics might not work well for details like pockets with facing. In that case, please consider using other lighter fabrics partly like the inside yoke, facing, or pocket parts.

Please choose a suitable one for your design intension.

For the caramel brown sample in the photos, I used cotton canvas. Suitable for work shirts and very easy to handle. The contrast fabric used for the sleeve patch and pocket layer is faux suede.

If you want very durable patches, leather or rubber-mixed fabrics are used for professional work apparel. But for general daily usage, like mine, design oriented choice like nice compliment colours or textures will be enough. Using leftover or old clothes is a fun choice, too.

The khaki sample is cotton ripstop. This one is also very suitable for work wear. The patch part is mixed twill.

The red plaid one is light wool backed fleece. I backed all the pieces with fleece except the folded parts like pocket openings or hem.

I bought all those fabrics from my local fabric market, but most of them are from years ago. I wanted to share where I bought them, but I actually forgot all.

I think light water repellent or windproof fabrics are nice functional options, too.

<Size>

The shirt is drafted regular fit.

I made on size bigger the red plaid sample because I wanted to wear this as a jacket. Also because the fabric gets thicker with fleece backing.

The caramel brown and khaki samples were made with just fit size.

<Other material>

If you attach the hidden button stand design, it is better to use flat and thin buttons for clean look opening.

Photo Challenges - Why I do them & why I do them alone

Time for a new blog, my topic this time: Photo Challenges!

With the new year a lot of people attempt to do the "A Doll A Week" a weekly photo challenge, some are even that ambitious to do the 365-Challenge, a photo for each day.

Back in 2014 I started my very first attempt to do a photo challenge, I got a DSLR as gift 1 1/2 years in before and kinda wanted to do more with it than just taking photos here and there. The weekly challenge of the ADAW seemed fun. On the top of this entry you can see my very first entrance for it. As you can see it started with a quite random photo.

I can tell I didn't make the full 2014 according to the ADAW but as I checked my files I noticed I indeed took photos each week?! Therefore I failed but .. also did not. It was somehow weirdly motivating for me to see that I can do it.

2015 was the first true attempt for me to finish the ADAW, this time with more effort. Because just taking photos is boring right? Aside taking more photos I wanted to feature each doll I had, around that time that was still very much possible with 52 photos for the 52 weeks of the year.

I was prepared, this was the first pic of 2015 .. well.. no. It wasn't I took it in advance and this is one of the points I later on disliked how I approached the whole thing. I was in a flickr group for some time and the same theme was going against my own liking, that people just took 20 photos at a time, posted them (all looking alike) and were finished with the whole challenge within half of the time.

I asked myself if this was what I wanted? The whole thing started to frustrate me, as I tried to come up with cool ideas and I saw other people half-assed their entries. Of course each to their own but no passion for the project, 'cheating' with multiple photos from one photoshoot just to make it "full" that seemed wrong for me.

But I managed to finish 2015! My first year with 52 weekly photos taken. The next year started with a photoshoot as well but I didn't use it for the ADAW.

Instead I took a break to regain and started with another idea:

Names! Like this one was named "ADAW 01 - Frost Pattern" I made it into an own challenge to add creative titles to go with the photos, also I added more and more photos, not just one but multiple. This was to challenge myself more and more. Still I tried to be motivated by others and motivate them but somehow... it still was turning me off that people approached the whole thing less .. uhm.. strict? I can't really put it into words, I just can tell as I later on within the years tried to build up a guide how to do the ADAW I got so demotivated seeing others doing it that I had to put the thread in the forum on full ignore and do my own instead? It's super weird.

What really got me going though was that I started to print my photos. 2 Photobooks for one year, having my photos printed made them more precious to me. I still make photobooks and last year I reached the maximum page count for the books and uhm.. might need to do three a year if that continues.

I can tell I got hooked by photos. Sometimes it felt hard to start over though, to start with "nothing" all over again, as I tend to null & void my own progress in my mind and well.. "new year, nothing done" got me hard sometimes, that's why the first days of the new years were hard for me to find ideas.

Also the fact that I still tried not to feature a doll twice got harder and harder even given I had more than enough dolls. But you know how it is, right? When you restrict yourself you want to do exactly that what is restricted.

Did I feel drained in the process of taking photos weekly? Oh yes, I did. Especially because I decided I have to take WHOLE PHOTOSHOOTS and sometimes even posts with outtakes to share fact about the characters. Some weeks I was so demotivated.

But a thing that helped me going was ... routine. And the photobooks. I picked a day during the week I was taking photos, which for me is Saturday, and it's still mainly Saturday to be honest.

It was 2019 already and you can see I returned to taking new year's photos, 2020 was similar. But I got tired of the ADAW thing, because it was kind of still setting to close borders for me. Taking photos weekly was becoming easy for me because I did it for so long. I still kinda tried to keep up with other hobbyists but in 2020 with the pandemic I cut ties with my local community and decided that 2021 would be the first year of me not doing a 'A Doll A Week'

Wait? What? Yes, you read that correctly.

Welcome to my own challenge the ... Weekly Photo!

This might seem not much of a difference but allows me to take photos, not just of dolls but of landscapes, people, animals and that was important to me. I still mainly use it for dolls but I wanted to do an own challenge, without any link back to the 'rules' of the ADAW and without the mental connection to the community I had left behind.

With the Weekly Photo I started to thrive. No more (own set) boundaries, every doll could be featured, even 20 times in a row, no rules, no titles, no themes, just me and my camera. For the sake of being creative.

And that's what I can tell you about my challenges... do it for the creativity, do it to challenge yourself. Don't be that dumb like I was and think you have to stick to what everyone else does or that you have to do it a certain way.

Now taking photos became so easy for me I see it as challenge to use the seasons as canvas to come up with something, to learn what light/time is the best.

I can tell my photography has envolved because I dared and tried, I challenged myself, revisted ideas but didn't try to set boundaries to my own creativity.

To be honest I now see photo ideas everywhere and almost have to stop myself from taking TOO MANY PHOTOS because .. I still need to sort them out :')

Oh a little thing that still is a rule for me ... I didn't bury them all: the first photo has to be taken in the actual year. Yes, I stayed up super late to take Tamani's photos as the first set of 2024 just to be sure I have that done.

I'm not sure if this entry is helpful for someone, for me looking up the old photos (I put in one for each year of a challenge) was super interesting and with a super busy week and weekend behind me I wanted to do a lighter topic for once.

I can tell writing down really helps me to reflect the hobby and to think through some decisions.

We were making an ai classifier toda which was pretty interesting, like you get a bunch of photos for multiple things (i did it on moths so, one class is rosy maple moth, second is atlas moth, third is herculese moth etc etc) and train it to recognize the patterns and if you show it a moth it will try to guess what moth it is (regarding the classes you made for it). We made a quizz off it after.

However because we scraped the web for images to train it on, most of us used google. And it just proved the point of how useless google's image search actually is. We used an image downloading extention called "imageye" which basically scrapes all the images from the website you have open and downloads them, this also means it downloads absolutely all favicons and random icons that nobody wants so you have to filter them.

And oh my god it was garbage. ~10% of your results depending on what moth you searched were AI sludge. Then it shows you shop listings (obviously), then it shows you a completely different moth. It was impossible to get photos for the rosy maple moth because 50% were plushie/etsy listings. Like I get it its a popular moth thats really cute but jesus christ. I had to go to flickr to get pictures of that thing because after sorting the images i was left with like. 15 files. Which is Not enough for a classifier.

I think the saddest part beside the fact of youre just downloading random images with no permission is that there was barely any art in the search results. Like there were a couple of moth drawings, and some "buff moths" (bc i was looking up buff tip moth lol) but the rest was just... online listings, ai sludge, or some other thing you didnt need.

I think the classifier itself is a more useful tool than an image generator since you can train it to recognize plants and animals, like those mushroom identifier books but automated. The professor showed us a classifier that sb had made for shooing away foxes and raccoons from their garden, so if it detected it it would make a noise and scare them away. Lol

ios shortcuts for downloading hq content from instagram, twitter, youtube ... pls do this instead of screenshotting/screen recording which will badly degrade the quality.. also my fav thing about these is you can set it so it saves the date to be when it was posted, not when you downloaded, and the account is in the file name for easy reference purposes. you will need the (free) apps scriptable and a-shell mini

download livestreams (and more, including nhl website videos) with hls loader

a pro tip also is to search your blorbo/team/etc places other than google/youtube, like vimeo (this is where the cream of the crop content is hiding, i search nhl on vimeo every few days), photo websites like flickr, vsco, etc. really try to think outside the box with this! for example u can search inside books with the internet archive/google books. i found jack was randomly featured in a book about sidney crosby this way.

learn to use google and twitter etc search tools so you can filter through searches easily. this is more useful the more common of a name your blorbo has, and unfortunately for hockey there is many a tyler.

these are all varying degrees of copyright infringement so do at your own risk etc etc mr. bettman if u see this i have never done anything illegal in my life i dont know what piracy is and am making this post for nonprofit media archival purposes!!!

"My lovely wife Matt Stone" aka Trey's BOM speech from Feb 25 2013 at the first west end preview. How I found this: So, sometimes when I'm bored I'll pick a random mattrey blog that's been active for a long time, open an old post from their archive, see if there's old inactive mattrey blogs in the notes, and look through their archive to see if there's any posts I could make resurface that had stopped circulating, right? The funny thing is I'll go on reblog sprees, so I actually hadn't listened to the audio when I reblogged it. I was only informed of what it said when I saw others freak out about it.

Daily Show with Craig Kilborn. Why it's my fav? Well, aside from being adorable and iconic, it landed my youtube channel in the lost media wiki! How I found it is actually quite easy, when you look up fansites on the web archive you can do specific search for the files the web archive has saved from it. Turns out sometimes quicktime files work! Four parts were in canniballovers and one in dtisfu if I remember correctly, I just edited them together and posted it. Still wish someone could find it in better quality though. 😔

I'm gonna list a bunch of pictures now... because there's many. 😭 But my absolute N1 is probably the Halloween Robert Smith Trey picture. How I found it is simple, just looking up random words on facebook. Probably "trey parker", nothing special. This and this from the Ron Jeremy website on the web archive, though I think maybe the second one had already been circulating I'm not exactly sure. Showgirl Halloween Trey. The kiss pictures. Pink haired Trey!! This NATPE (?) picture. These older Trey pics where he's serving absolute cunt. This Lapdance/Sundance (?) pic. And these too. This reverse cap one altho this was from twitter I don't think I was the first to come across it tbh. These three from the "A Million Laughs" fb page... Bowl hat... Trey with the blue umbrella full pic... tho I wouldn't say I "found it" only that I got to it first the day it was posted... Trey in the matching christmas pajama from 2018... I'm gonna stop but my heart is pretty big and I like all pics...

As to how I come across anything... it's lots of free time. Like I'm talking hours daily just picking a random lead and following it. It may be a website you think hasn't been thoroughly searched (I've tried fb, ig, twitter, worthpoint, ebay, wordpress, tripod, weebly, various fansites on webarchive, footage.net, bilibili/baidu, vimeo, dailymotion, flickr, a load of sketchy other websites I don't remember anymore... basically trey parker has brought me to places I wouldn't go with a gun...) a combination of words, a new search engine that may give u different results (I've tried the ones listed in the lost media wiki guide, my favorite is startpage). Using targeted searching like "word" or site:x "word" or "word combo" before:year, basically trying to make google your bitch. I also use gettyimages like a visual wiki of events Trey's been to+the date, it's quite useful... ik you didn't ask the "how" part but aaaa I like talking about it 😭 I have a lot of fun. Even though sometimes I just come up empty handed even after hours of research. More often than not tbh. Also I'm an obsessed weirdo who checks the words "trey parker" daily on twitter, tumblr, ig, fb, yt, web archive and ebay. 🫠

And also the concept of finding is weird because it has happened to me that I thought I had found something and then it actually had been circulating already, so I tried really hard to answer you by only listing stuff I was fairly sure hadn't been circulating before I got to it, but I mean... it doesn't really matter! I'm here to serve, I just like sharing whatever stuff I run into, it'll happen that it's new to me but it really isn't. 😵‍💫 I try...

This old, run-down motel and diner-bar is slowly being given a new lease of life. The new manager, who is said to hail from an old mill town, has brought her favourite fry cook with her, who lives out back in a trailer. Come stay at Mesquite Motel! (Perhaps avoid the top floor though...)

Mesquite Motel is set as a bar, but can be used as a diner/restaurant or a residential lot. It's ideal for storytellers (especially those who like werewolves or anything noir). There are 6 motel rooms to explore, a reception, and an apartment for the manager, as well as the diner-bar and kitchen. The kitchen has two stove units depending on how you want to use it. The drive-thru stove is blocked off so your chefs should use the other, but you can block that off if you'd prefer them to use the drive-thru.

The only custom content used was my Shiftable Mirrors (which lets you move mirrors freely on the wall). If you don't have that installed you might find any wall mirrors disappear. If that happens, you can simply replace them with whatever you like.

I have every build/buy pack and kit and used a lot of them for this build. Anything missing can be replaced with whatever you have in your own game.

Meet new sewing pattern <Kaede> Utility apron / Tool belt

A new item is just released from Waffle Patterns. Meet Utility apron / Tool belt <Kaede> sewing pattern. You can choose a bib apron type or tool belt with many useful pockets and functional parts!

Please freely mix and combine the design options as you like and make functional gear for sewists, gardeners, carpenters, makeup artists, florists, or all cool creative workers!

<Design options>

View A is an apron type with a bib and the apron is slightly longer than View B. The bib pocket has a layer and pen holder. There is a large layered pocket on the center of the apron and useful cargo pockets, zipper pockets, and hanger loops are on the side parts.

View B is a tool belt type with belt loops, and slightly shorter than View A. The center pocket has one more layer for the artist tool pocket where we can store brushes, seam rippers, or any other stick-shaped equipment. It features belt loops&belt. you can make a belt for this or use a belt you already have. Also, it can be changed to View A type of belt.

My personal favourite is the detachable tool pocket. If you want to make this, please attach the hunger loop or belt loops/belt for attaching it.

Please mix and match the options for your design intention and materials.

<fabric recommendation>

The pattern is drafted for woven fabrics. Mid-heavy weight durable fabrics like duck, twill, denim, linen, or canvas will be suitable.

Some very thick/stiff fabrics might not be suitable for details like double folded edge or flap etc, because of the thickness of fabric layers. Please consider proper finishes for your material or try to use a contrast fabric for some parts.

I partly used folded nylon tape instead of the double folded pocket opening edges on the sample. Depending on the fabric, maybe this is a good option for the hem, too. Also, I used a contrast fabric for the facing on the gray sample and skip interfacing on some parts, because the shell is quite stiff.

The salmon pink sample was made with mid-weight cotton duck, I made other workwear series with this like Anzu or Azuki. I bought it at local traveling fabric market years ago. Since the construction is like chambray or dungaree, similar fabrics may be found in coloured denim section.

The gray sample is a teflon-coated outdoor fabric. It’s a bit stiff for clothing but perfect for this item. This fabric is also from my local fabric market years ago.

I want to make another one with oil clothes, raw denim or nylon ripstop if I can find nice fabric.

<Other material>

The samples are using durable webbing tape for the belt and neck straps etc. Those tapes and parts like adjusters are sometimes found in bag making material section at stores. If you cannot find perfect materials, make the tape from a shell or contrast fabric of the same width.

<Size>

3 sizes XS/S, M/L, and XL/XXL are available. As for choosing your size, I recommend referring to the finishing measurement, too. I think some people like to use a tool belt of a smaller size. In that case, please choose a smaller size, then adjust the length of the belt and neck strap to fit your body. If you use the apron over jackets or outers, a larger size will be the option. Since the pattern is quite flat, those are suitable for men, too. The length might be too short. If you want to lengthen, off-setting the hem is the easiest way.

Oh, my reason for procrastination is actually not having image resources haha! It seems like such an arduous task to find images, so I'm just putting it off.

it really can be Annoying!! let me share some Resources for you.

if you are doing Work you intend to later sell, it is best to use all Vintage imagery. i can't guarantee it's all Copyright free in your country, but generally (very, very generally) if it's older than about 100ish-120ish years, it's good to go in the US. consult with a Human Lawyer on this as it varies around the world.
