I'm sure she left and was just denied access to this parable again... Probably for the best.

Dick Grayson the sexy museum curator
It was so on brand. Enough with the fanon himbo bullshit, I wanna see more of Dick Grayson the (canon) history nerd.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's Dick being a bookworm and nerding out an issue earlier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's Dick enjoying a date with fellow history buff Deborah Poulos. And Dick, who understands legacy and loss more than anyone, toasting to the recently passed Bart Allen with Wally West (and Wally and Roy Harper ribbing him for being a geek).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe this is why he gets on so well with superhero historian Jesse Chambers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
History is so thematically important to Dick; he's the last Flying Grayson, the first sidekick ever and the first superhero to grow up. He passed the baton on as the first Robin, honored a Kryptonian heritage as Nightwing, was a mentor to a new generation of heroes as a Titan, and became the poster boy of LEGACY as Batman.
Tumblr media
Sources: Nightwing #140-143 and Titans (1999).

I was just in Detroit, for reasons, and stopped in at their Detroit Institute of Arts
and now I have to compose an email to the curation team
because I believe that they are Wrong about this pot:
Tumblr media
The display label said “Bowl Painted with Children Spinning Yarn, about 400, Ceramic, Unknown artist, Nasca culture, Peru.” (The collection label is “Bowl Decorated with Men Spinning, between 200 BCE and 200 CE, Nazca, Precolumbian” which is a weird discrepancy but not the point)
The point is, this simply isn’t what spinning looks like. I don’t think anyone in human history has attempted to make yarn this way. It is certainly not how the Nasca bead spindle or the modern Southern Quechua pushka are used.
I’m fairly certain that they are actually holding slings, slingshots. Virtually unchanged from the Nasca culture to the modern Southern Quechua, with a tassel at one end and a slit pouch.

@tlatollotl care to give me a vibe check? before I compulsively pester an institution?

So here’s a project I’ve not advertised at all. No Requests: Live! From the Tavern is an Adult focused Edutainment series focused on discussing Art, Music, and Media. Each episode is broken up into segments that work together in a playlist including various other videos on Youtube. This means Music Videos, short films, and other video essays, curated together with extra commentary from the host of the show, Tavern Barz.
That’s a weird and unnecessarily complicated format, why are you doing this?
It’s really easy in this day and age to use Youtube videos as a replacement for other content. I mean, why watch a two hour movie when you can watch a 20 minute recap?
This is a bad habit. Critique is important aspect to a good media diet, but a diet consisting solely of critique misses the point completely. In order to talk about media, we must also experience it.
This format means we don’t directly compete with the art featured. Rather, Tavern Barz acts as a museum curator, and the other media in the playlists serve as the actual art itself. The original videos will get their view, and… as a nice little bonus, I get to avoid the copyright bots.
Why are you using a cartoon?
I mean, I’m an animator. I don’t know what else to tell you. Why does the Chocolate guy use chocolate when clay will last longer?
But also, I don’t really have any desire to host the show as myself. There’s a hundred and ten other Youtubers who will get on camera to talk about stuff, and like, I don’t have the room for that.
Besides, Tavern is a character distinct from me. As a writer, I have full control over the narrative I want to tell, and placing myself in the center of that just feels weird. Tavern’s allowed to act and be weird and hypocritical. Tavern is allowed to grow as a character in ways you can’t really depict through the lens of literal documentary filmmaking.
So that Cyclops character isn’t just your rantsona vtuber avatar?
I mean, in a very literal sense, Tavern is a Vtuber. They are a virtual character serving as the host for a real show on Youtube.
But Tavern’s also an OC with lore and a planned Story Arc. The pilot is admittedly pretty bare bones with all this, but I intent to incorporate more story elements as the series goes on.
Alright, so what’s the lore then?
Tavern Barz is the Cycloptic owner of the Tavern Barz Tavern, a fifth dimensional divebar thar exists all across Time and Space. After several eternities of service, Tavern thinks they know it all.
This is not true.
Is this project family friendly?
Not really. The main character is a bartender, so there's a lot of alcohol focus. Plus, a lot of the featured videos will also contain plenty of adult themes.
The pilot is pretty mild. There's some swearing, but nothing too serious. But the non original videos might have adult themes. I have some later episodes planned, including one focused on The Male Gaze, and in those cases, I can't in good conscience recommend these videos to minors.
All in all, I like to call the tone of the project comfortably adult. I'm not going out of my way to be edgy, but I'm also not censoring myself. If this were an actual TV series, it's probably be TV-14. Edgier than the Simpsons, not as edgy as Rick and Morty, so about the level of Futurama.
When will this project release?
April, 2024. As of the time of this writing, the first episode is basically finished except for the credits, but I also need sometime to compile my sources, write descriptions, and make some thumbnails, as well as advertise the project.
Follow Me on this Account if you wanna keep up with the project. You can also see my other links at https://norequestslive.carrd.co/

we are sorting the mannequins! it has started me so many times!
the museum is currently littered with mannequin parts and bodies as we work to sort our exhibit mannequins - which is exciting!! but also extraordinarily unnerving as I keep running into mannequins that are not where I expect them to be
Tumblr media
here are some of the less scary (newer) ones next to my archive entrance
Tumblr media
unfortunately I can't post the torsos and heads on the first floor (the ones being decommissioned) for privacy reasons. I wish I could though, because it is hard to put into words how genuinely unnerving these figures are.
immediately upon entering the museum each day I am greeted by a distant hoard of torsos, limbs, and heads decorated in obscenely dramatic makeup - the mannequins having been taken apart for ease of transport down the stairs. This is actually my first time seeing the faces of many of these figures, during the exhibit season they were covered with stockings as the makeup did not suit the clothing displayed. Which was frankly also pretty terrifying, seeing just the clear ghost of a hidden face underneath the fabric
a part of me feels bad for the ones we are disposing of?? they have spent their career in this institution, helping us display history, and now their future is wholly unknown
-- but also they are the type of model that do pose a threat to delicate historical clothing (damn you articulated arms that can pinch and tear), so I am glad we have found the means to upgrade --
ANYWHO - despite my terror the museum is once again filled with life! we are preparing for our opening, building exhibits, and diving back in to in-person projects! :)

reading a book for the sapphic exhibit im helping create (exhibit is loosely based around a pair of lesbians from the early 1900s who were prominent in my town)
but the book! does NOT like to suggest that this woman was a lesbian, even when it quotes her sappy letters to her partner!! which she signed off by saying
"with all my woman’s heart!! With love and a french kiss, I am your own girl’
according to the author, even though they lived together (for 20 years!!) and adopted children together, they may have just been close friends
(they were not just close friends)
-------------------
posting this on my personal blog bc I dont want to talk badly abt the book on my more professional acc and bc its more just me ranting - BUT if you see this and want updates as the exhibit takes shape go follow @themuseumlady :)

How does one get a job at a museum? I already have a relevant degree with honours and work experience at several archives/art galleries, but I don’t know how to get started with museums. Is there some secret site where museum jobs are posted? Something all good applications have? A secret knock??
(PS love your channel and work, I love this discipline of museum studies and curation and can’t wait to properly work in this field!)
Howdy!
It sounds like you already have a great head start with your experience and degree!
As far as where jobs are posted, this depends on where you live. I would suggest seeing if there is a local museum association and/or comb job boards. It can be tedious, but you can also check out the career pages of the museums you want to work for. As I am currently on the job hunt, I have found that a lot of jobs have been shared to Indeed, but I am also on Canada's West coast and other museums in other parts of the world may use a different engine. There really isn't a knack, except to gain as much experience as you can (even if it's not directly related to museums) and to network with people. Go to events, conferences, and connect with people online, whether it is through LinkedIn or Instagram. You just have to jump up and down and let people know that you exist and have relevant experience.
With all this being said: this field is not easy. The pay is usually shit. Jobs are difficult to find. If curatorship is your end goal, a PhD is necessary, and even then, you are fighting tooth and nail with other PhD's. Heritage, history, and museums are brutally underfunded.
Being a part of this field nowadays means that you have to be active in your local museum community and advocate for these places. Visit your local spot and ask questions. Learn! As much as you can! And be present.
Thank you for your kind words, and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

The museum curator, since i couldnt help myself from designing both narrators!
Shes definitely like an older sister to the narrator in my eyes. Or just like a very kind friend. They 100% drink coffee or tea, together.
Also I thought it would be funny if she was the one that got the really simple earpiece and the narrator had to wear these big bulky headphones. I guess she doesn’t need to hear as much as he does though.
My narrator design can be seen here

A hard day of work
Image description :
A drawing of three panels and one open space. The top left corner is a larger square panel which shows two shelves of clay artifacts secured with museum storage techniques. Overlapping the bottom right corner is an upsidedown Japanese teacup with a catalog number written on the bottom of it. In the open space above it is a clear nail polish bottle with "B-72" written on it. The bottom left corner shows the inside of a box with Japanese teacups and teapot tied and cushioned, with a pair of hands (wearing latex gloves and brown coat sleeves) overlapping the bottom to tie the string on a teacup. The bottom right corner shows a man wearing latex gloves, a mask pulled below his mouth, glasses, a brown blazer and white top, with brown hair.
