Chapter 8 : The First Night

After soaking in the water Sansa searches for pajamas that Cillian can wear. Her apartment had no men's clothes. So the outfit she found for him was just a t-shirt that her probably had in her closet. And it's one that he can wear. She handed him a soft white T-shirt to try on.

"You should probably be able to wear them….but I'm not sure about the pants. - Is there one you can wear?” She searched for the biggest, lightest, and most comfortable pair of pants for him. It's a slippery pair of pajama pants. Of course!… It's a feminine style, light pink.

Sansa handed it to him. Cillian took the pants and tried them on without saying anything. But his face and eyes showed a slight amused smile. young actor Walked out wearing light pink pants and a white t-shirt. That made him seem like the sweetest, sweetest man Sansa had ever met.

She laughed at his expression. "How do I look ?" Cillian said. He spun around like a child to show her.

"Very cute." They both laughed at each other.

The two walked, hugging their waists. They teased each other as they walked in and sat down on the sofa in the living area. “ You sit down here. I'll dry your hair for you."

She led him to sit down on the floor in front of her. He sat down and easily inserted himself between her legs. Sansa manages to use a hair dryer for him. When she blow-dries his hair until it's dry The two switched roles. Cillian proceeded to rub and dry Sansa's hair.

Tonight, the two men and women did a lot together. Whether it's lying down watching your favorite movie, playing music, making dinner together, or just rolling around and playing with each other. This is the first time! that Sansa felt the presence of someone beside her in her safe space He made her warm and comfortable. Sansa understood why Gigi wanted her to try dating someone so badly. Because it's good like this!

"Would you like a cocktail?" she asked Cillian after dinner.

"Can you do it ?"

"Yes, I'm the best," the woman replied, pointing at the bar in the hallway.

"I created this bar. Specifically to practice making cocktails. I practiced making it until I had my cocktail recipe." She shows off to him.

Cillian laughed at Sansa words and attitude. Before he was led by her hand to sit down at the bar... He sat and watched her prepare the ingredients for the cocktails. There are brandies, liquors, fruit juices, and various brews. was neatly prepared Now he was sitting and waiting for her like a customer.

"Bartender Sansa has arrived," She jumped out from under the table. She makes cocktails and shows off her shaking and tossing skills. It's like performing magic for him. Cillian enjoyed those performances.

There was a moment when she amazed him. Sansa tossed a liquor bottle and a cocktail shaker behind her back. She flows the bottle from left shoulder to right shoulder before pouring it into the glass. It was very exciting for him. She was the best entertainer he had ever met! The more I got to know her, He was even more amazed by her abilities.

"Here, Sansa's version of a cocktail." Sansa handed him a purple-blue cocktail glass. She looked at his expression as he tasted it.

"Wow...very delicious. This is the most delicious cocktail of my life.” Cillian praised. Ready to lift it and drink it until the glass is finished. He immediately rushed towards the girl on the other side. Two arms lifted her and sat her on the bar. He used his thick fingers to gently caress her face. The tip of his nose sniffed her neck. Sansa felt his warm breath on her skin. He rubbed his nose and played with both hands, caressing her back and stroking her hair passionately. Cillian looked up at the young woman in front of him. He rubbed the tip of his nose against the tip of her nose.

"I am the luckiest man. To be with someone special like you right now." His eyes were full of passion.

Sansa didn't know why Cillian would say that. Because she thinks that what she does It's not any more special than what normal women do. Even so! She was also delighted by his words of admiration.

"I feel happy too. It's you who's with me right now." Cillian immediately grabbed her neck and kissed her, it was harder and more passionate than the first time she had kissed. Sansa thought it was probably because of that cocktail!

The first night passed... 09.30

Sansa woke up. There was soft morning sunlight shining down on her beautiful face, and she had light blue eyes. It was already sparkling staring at her. That face smiled at her. The girl smiled back. She reached out and rubbed his face.

“Am I dreaming?” she said in disbelief.

"Maybe it's a dream," he replied with a smile.

Sansa thought back to the events of yesterday. After she meets with Cillian to talk about the gallery and various events and feelings that caused her and him to sleep together this morning, Sansa remembers her first sex and second sex on the bar, these sex experiences will never be forgotten by her. It's wonderful!

"How long have you been awake?"

"I woke up a little earlier than you." He replied, kissing her lips. Sansa sat up. She stretched. Her eyes fixed on the clock. It's now half past nine. She turned to him and asked, " What time will you be back today ?"

Cillian sat up next to the woman. "I have an interview at a film festival at eleven o'clock."

Her eyes are big! “It's quite late already! Let's get up! I'll make you breakfast before I leave.” She told him, standing up. But her wrist was grabbed first… Cillian jerked her arm to make her sit on his lap.

"I want to stay with you!" He made a lazy face. Sansa rubbed the tip of his chin slightly.

"It's not good at all. You're an actor. I don't want to get you reprimanded.” She told him, leaning down to kiss him.

"Let's go downstairs!" She held his hand and led him to get up. before dragging him to the bottom

Sansa lets Cillian in to shower and get dressed while she makes him breakfast. He was now dressed and looked like the same Cillian she had met yesterday. He was wearing the same clothes after she dried him last night. The young woman looked at him. She liked his hair. It is arranged in a beautiful order. That makes him handsome, and looking good for his age. She prepared food and put it on the kitchen table for him.

"very appealing to eat! thank you" He thanks her for the big bacon. It was plump and juicy, very pleasing to him.

"You feel like you know my heart. It's so delicious," he complimented her. Because bacon is what he likes to eat most in the morning.

Sansa laughed at Cillian's antics. She talked with him a little longer over breakfast. Because the time was quite short and she didn't want to make him late for the interview. After finishing eating She walked him to the elevator door.

"Goodbye, Cillian."

"I'll call you, Sansa." He said kissing her goodbye. before walking into the elevator and leaving

Sansa hadn't gone out all day today. All she could do was roll around in her apartment. Because she felt tired from last night's sex. All that sex took up a lot of her strength. And make her weak in the knees! She lies down and watches her favorite movie, Harry Potter, to relax and pass the time. Until she fell asleep and woke up around 3:00 p.m.

"I've been asleep for three hours now!" She had never normally slept during the day before.

'I wonder if my body must be fighting hard!' she thought Now she felt well rested. She got up and picked up a novel to read to relax.

Ring..ring.. the sound of the mobile phone ringing.

"Hello," she said to the other end of the line.

"I'm in front of the apartment lobby. Can you come down and pick me up?”

"Okay," the woman replied and hung up. She furrowed her brow and thought, ' What's wrong with him? Or have him forgotten something ?'

Sansa went downstairs to pick up Cillian. Luckily, no one was entering or leaving her apartment at that time. She walked into the elevator. The two stood close to each other, but not too close. in order not to be abnormal Sansa turned to him and asked.

"Did you forget something ?" He just turned and smiled. But he didn't say anything in response. Until the elevator opened The pair entered the apartment. Cillian suddenly started attacking and hugging her without warning!

"I miss you!" He started kissing hard. She didn't even have a chance to say or ask anything. Cillian hastily began unbuttoning Sansa's casual shirt. He kissed, caressed, and invaded her body like a hungry man.

"I don't have any plans to give an interview today. I only see your face Think about your scent. your body I miss you all the time."

He muttered, mouth still kissing. and licked all over her body,

"Ah!..." Sansa was mesmerized by what he did and said.

"I miss you too," she replied to him. With a moaning sound from his throat periodically Cillian lifted a young woman's body onto the dining table. He held her legs apart. He didn't hesitate and quickly grabbed his hard sinew. Hastily inserting her slit. He inserted it for a long time. Until her slit opened to allow his shaft to enter.

He slowly began to pound his waist..slowly. And it started getting stronger... Faster! Sansa was shaking all over. He was fierce and hungry. His hands gripped her neck. He pressed her body to meet the rhythm of his thrusts. That made Sansa even more excited. She tensed and grabbed him by the neck and hugged her, both of them shaking, twitching, and crying out loudly in that area, her whole body tingling. Sansa felt numb. A tingle spread throughout her lower abdomen. And he finished, too. this! It was her fastest finish ever and he could say that!

Cillian dropped his head to her shoulder like he was exhausted. Sansa thinks He must have been feeling tired. Because last night they both had sex for a long time and slept very late. She moved to take his hand and lie down on the sofa. The two of them lay together, hugging each other like that. Until she and he fell asleep

She was startled awake. Looking at the clock, it was now six o'clock. Sansa could still see Cillian sleeping. "Cill?" She shakes him to wake him up... Cillian is startled and his eyes open!

"It's already six o'clock." He sat up. His back leaned on the sofa and he rubbed his eyes. The girl looked at him acting cutely like a child.

“Are you going to stay longer ?” she asked him. Cillian looked up at Sansa. Ready to hold her face

"I want to stay with you." He said, burying his face between her breasts.

"But tomorrow I have to go on set in New Ross." He said in a depressed tone.

"Tomorrow? You need to go back and prepare like this.” She answered him understandingly.

"Yes, I have to go back to New Ross tonight," he replied, his arms still holding her. Sansa hugged him back. The two of them sat and hugged each other for a long time. until she had to move away Because otherwise he definitely wouldn't have gone to New Ross!

"Go, I'll take you." She stood up. Ready to hold his hand to get up as well. Sansa helped him pack his bag. before walking to the front of the elevator door

"travel safely"

He came over and hugged her before leaving,

"I'll call you later. Goodbye." Cillian waved goodbye and left again!

🥰👂‍The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen (The Doomsday Books #1) (KJ Charles, author; Martyn Swain, narrator) - another knock out hit from KJC!!! I loved that most of the conflict was external - they had some shit to sort out but it was not drawn out excessively. Great sense of place. Really looking forward to the next book in the duology, but not because this one left me wanting. [audio narrator's voice was lovely-sounding but the pacing was TERRIBLE - very, very slow with drawn out pauses in the middle of sentences, just weird & annoying. I read it on 1.45x speed and it was just bearable but I mostly read it in text when I could]

🥰 All the Things Money Can't Buy series (Lys ap Adin (lysapadin)) - 62K series (45 main story, rest later vignettes) - Sheith modern sugar daddy AU, complete with a delicious 'snowed in together' section and a cute dog named Potroast 🐶

😊👂‍Death In Irish Accents (The Dublin Driver Mysteries #4) (Catie Murphy, author; Ruth Urquhart, narrator) - Megan just can't stay away from murders - literally opens with a body falling on Megan & her girlfriend while they are having coffee - absolutely love it!

😍Monoclonius (Zenaidamacrouras1) - 62K, stucky AU with single dad/environmentalist Steve & dino scientist Bucky - absolutely delightful, loved loved loved it to bits! Genuinely loved the OCs (including a very important stuffed trilobite; found family vibes off the charts (even outside of S&B)). Also there's a very decent amount of hot sex! THIS FIC HAS EVERYTHING.

This is incredibly late because I moved across the country and also made the mistake of checking my inbox when I didn't have time to talk and also I got long so it goes under a readmore lol

Naddpod- The Best Of Both Worlds, amazing comedy podcast, will make you lose your mind with the bullshit they pull. Brian Murphy is A Great DM who cannot role dice well to save his life and I love that for them! I have laughed, I have cried, I have nearly had to pull over my car to scream while lisitening. They also know the rules of the game and follow them well more often than not, which is a perk when like me you love dnd but have very raerly played. (I think this is what I made the post that led to this ask about but it could have also been-- )

Dungeons and Daddies (Not a BDSM Podcast)- Listen these assholes (affectionate) do not know how to play dungeons and dragons 95% of the time, but they don't need to!!! Who needs to know the difference between a check and a saving throw? Who needs to use core abilities of your class before the finale?? Not these guys! But if you want a lose your mind funny comedy podcast that is loosely based on dnd? 10/10 the absolute best. Plus Anthony (and also Will in his mini series) makes up the best mechanics. This man made up fortnite for dnd, football mechanics, he dnd-iffied a courtroom trial. For a 3 episode mini-series he made a mechanic for regency era marriage potential!!!!! Listen to Dndads you will not regret it.

3 Black Halflings- So technically speaking they are not completely an actual play podcast. Technically speaking they are a dnd podcast promoting diversity and inclusion in a community that desperately needs it and highlights both old and new problems within the system and community. And their talkshow episodes are enlightening and have taught me a hell of a lot (and they also do breakdown episodes on classes for anybody who might be interested in them) But also their actual play podcasts are.... So Good. The first is The Cub and the Caterpillar (which I am still actively dying for Season 2 of if Unati can ever come back in any way shape or form !!!!) which is set in Wagadu and basically ruined my life with the finale. Their second, shorter campaign was Outlaws and Obelisks set in Utaram which is a post-apocolyptic home brewed setting (and features Connie Chang of Transplanar and Jonathan Charles who makes the music for the show as main party members and Emily Axford of Naddpod as a 'guest role'). It's definitely heavier on the body horror just by nature of the setting but like.... Not in a way that bothered me and honestly if you asked me it's worth it. They also just finished a 4 episode mini-campaign set in a different home brewed world that is in more of a....darker fantasy metropolis? It's nitty, gritty and so so good and if they don't do more in this 'verse I'm going to absolutely lose my mind. My final thoughts about them is their actual play episodes are long, and can get up to about 2+ hours easily. They're also definitely not a comedy podcast unlike the other ones that I generally listen to. But they will make you laugh !! They are so, so worth the time investment !!! I love them and you will love them too !!! And subscribe to their patreon so they can make an official sourcebook for Utaram !!!!

I do technically listen to taz and I do enjoy their newer campaign in Ethersea buuuuut honestly I'm only putting this on the list as a formality because 1. I think they're well known enough and 2. I don't necessarily listen to them as much as I used to lol

Pairing: Joel Miller x F!Reader

Warnings: brief food mention, Injuries mentioned along with blood and needles. (however nothing is graphically detailed.) Things get a small touch steamy in the kissing department, a mention of pregnancy.

Summary: A normal patrol goes very wrong in the desad of winter, lbut luckily for you Joel is there to patch all your wounds.

All you’ve done for what seems like hours now is run. Your lungs burn as you heave, drawing in ragged breaths of the cold air. You hear a couple rogue gunshots in the far distance but you don’t let your mind dwell on it. You’re in survival mode now, running on nothing but adrenaline and fear as you keep pushing forward.

You carefully walk through the treeline, looking for any sign of the horde that blindsided you and Joel. You take a breather and lean against a tree, finally assessing the damage to your knee. It took a while for you to notice how torn up your knee got in your hurry to get away. The barbed wire fence tore your jeans and skin to shreds, blood matted to the material and dried down your leg. You breathe through the pain and set your sights on climbing up the hill, knowing it's the last obstacle before you reach the safe house. As the snow picks up, swirling hard around you, you trudge up the hill and hope Joel is there waiting for you.

The morning had started off normally. You were able to laze around and sleep in for awhile, and read your book by the fire. You were scheduled to patrol with Joel for the afternoon shift and that sent butterflies in your stomach. Joel usually patrolled with his brother, so that would be a rare treat. Even if you two didn't patrol together much you got along well. Joel was quiet like you, just wanted a slow life for himself and Ellie.

The conversations between you two were slow to start, but once you two got on the topic of music your bond grew. You both opened up more and more over the months, usually meeting at night at the bar to talk,or play a card game.

You got your dear horse Murphy from the stables and walked out to Joel. You strolled up beside him, heart beating fast as his eyes met yours.

“Afternoon darlin’, we best make this quick. Looks like a storm's brewing,” you looked up at the dark wintery sky and agreed, by nightfall there would be at least a few inches of snow on the ground. You turned back to him to see him holding something in his hand. “You ate lunch yet? Got you a sandwich.” his hazel eyes warmed your body faster than the fire you made earlier.

You took the sandwich and gave your thanks, even though you forced the dry bread down.

Was he flirting again? Did he do this with Tommy too? How many times do you read small gestures as flirting?

You spent too much time fantasizing about Joel, analyzed far too many compliments and prolonged stares.

That doubt swirled in your mind as Tommy gave the warnings for the patrol. Apparently there was a horde spotted earlier, but it shouldn't be a problem since they appeared to be moving away from both town and the routes.

Tommy could not have been more wrong about that. You and Joel rode through the route, chatting about what you both did this morning- reading for you and building a guitar for him- but halfway through the route, was when shit went down. A noise at a nearby building drew your attention and as you rounded the corner horror set in. There had to have been about 40 infected, mostly runners and clickers.

Before you could react, a runner came from your left, spooked Murphy and threw you off. As your body hit the pavement, you heard Joel’s frantic shouts, his horse flew around to act as a barrier between you and the horde. You recovered quickly, adrenaline spiked in your system. “Dammit, you gotta run, I’ll draw them away!” to your horror Joel jumped off his horse, sending it in one direction as he ran away from you.

For a split second your eyes met through the mass and your heart felt like it froze inside of you. With his warm hazel eyes laced in fear and determination, he waved his arms and yelled to attract as many infected as he could. You had no doubts that Joel would sacrifice himself to save you, and you never wanted that. The wave of panic of taking too long, not confessing your feelings or affections bubbled up but you had no time for being sentimental. All you could do is hope you'd see him again and keep yourself alive.

The knife from your boot swiftly met the runner coming at you. The tears burned in your throat as you lost sight of him, but you killed the infected closest to you and ran. Ran until your lungs gave out and tears flowed like the blood from your wound.

You barely make it to the top of the hill, every muscle aching as the snow begins to fall harder from the darkening sky. The lookout point is in front of you and you drag your weary body to the door. You spot both of the horses tied up and waiting and it makes your heart flutter. Odds are Joel is already here and waiting but you can't take any chances.

You have your gun at the ready as you limp up the stairs and push open the door to the main room. “Joel? You in here?'' You keep your back to the wall and scan the area. You’re on high alert when you hear footsteps around the corner but you lower the weapon as you hear his voice.

“Thank Christ, you alright?'' somehow even in this weather his hands are warm and they're everywhere; pulling at your jacket, looking at your collarbone and neck searching for any bite marks. However, his movements stop when he catches sight of your knee. “You fall or…” he’s hesitant to even form the words but you're quick to assure him.

“Barbed wire fence, was trying to get away from a clicker. That’s all it is, I promise.” he nods his head, salt and pepper hair falling in his face. He takes a calming breath, eyes still a little wide from panic. His shaking hands cup your face for a moment and then wrap around your body, surrounding you in his warmth. You aren’t a hug kind of person, that touch long since forgotten in the apocalypse but Joel’s is nice. It feels safe which is a rarity in this world. “Let’s get you settled so I can take a look at that knee,” he’s pulling away but his hand hovers near your lower back, guiding you to sit on an armchair by the fireplace.

Joel goes to a cupboard in the makeshift kitchen and pulls out the first aid kit, but he stops before coming back. He leans over the counter and peers out the frosty window.

You take this moment to admire his form. His tall and broad body is hidden underneath the layers for the winter, but you know what he's rocking underneath. The summer was a blessing with his thin and worn shirts. You still dream about that thin material stretching over the bulge of his bicep. Any naughty thoughts forming disappear as he cocks his hip, lost in thought at the snowfall, and you swallow a giggle. How can a man be sexy but also endearingly cute at the same time?

He finally turns and strides over to the fireplace, instructing you to take off your pants as he turns his attention to starting a fire. “Storms lookin' worse. I think it’s best if we stay in, especially with you hurt. Should clear up by morning.'' you give the all clear and he turns back around, sitting on the low ottoman in front of you.

You hiss as he slowly brings your leg to settle in his lap and Joel gently rubs just below your knee with his thumb. He’s doing his best to comfort you, and while it is appreciated, you do in fact only have your underwear on. You feel a little bashful being so exposed, self consciousness warming your cheeks.

Joel however is a gentleman, his eyes never straying from your knee as he assesses and cleans your wound. The room is quiet, only the sounds of the fire crackling beside you and the wind howling outside. The storm has picked up in ferocity and you’re happy you got here when you did.

To distract you while he begins stitching up your jagged wounds you ask him some questions. Mostly just how he found the horses - they were waiting patiently on the trail together nearby- and if there was any food in the cabinets - a couple cans of old soup - but Joel is good about filling in the silence.

After he puts down the needle he begins to look over your wound again,but he stops just above where he was working. “That’s a nasty looking scar, when did you get that?” you peer down as he wraps a bandage around your new injury, spotting the jagged scar he's referring to. You tell him the tale of riding your bike and crashing directly into a brick wall as a kid. Joel shakes his head and laughs along with you at the memory, asking “why the hell didn’t you use your brakes?”

You grin sheepishly and shrug your shoulders, “New bike and the brakes were different than my old one, I had no clue until it was too late.” your head is propped up on your hand, so lost in thought you don’t see the affection shining in Joel’s eyes “I remember after i got home from the hospital, all stitched up and bandaged like this. My mom fretted over me, she sent me to go rest and kissed the bandage, told me it was all better...'' you shake your head from the memories, coming back to reality to see Joel’s sad smile. His eyes are downcast, looking at your wrapped knee.

To both of your surprises, Joel runs a finger lightly over the bandage and bends to place a feather light kiss on the knee, thumb rubbing your skin again in comfort. “There ya are darlin’, you’re all healed now.” You gulp and let out a shaky laugh. You pull your leg off him, muscles achy from staying still too long, and he gathers up the supplies to put them away.

You’re not sure what comes over you, maybe it’s the darkening sky leaving the room dark or seeing the firelight glow on his skin. “Hey Joel,” you pause enough for him to look up, eyes meeting yours “did I mention i fell and hurt my lip too?” he seems taken aback for a moment, eyes widening slightly. You're quickly hit with the realization of what you just said. “Fuck, I'm sorry Joel, I didn’t-” his warm hand on your cheek shuts you up, especially when his thumb runs over your lower lip.

He leans in, warm breath fanning over you making you shiver. “Let me patch that up for ya sweetheart.” His lips at first are cautious but he gains his confidence when you melt against him. His lips are warm and geedy, not leaving yours even as the kiss goes deeper. With careful precision he lifts you easily from the chair, dragging you to sit on his lap on the ottoman. Even as you squeal and laugh as he maneuvers you to straddle him, his lips are intense: tongue licking at your lips and dipping into your mouth when you start to kiss him back again with the same ferocity.

The combined heat from the fire beside you and Joel beneath you is almost too much. You part away from his lips, putting your hand on his chest briefly to stop him from chasing your lips. His pupils are blown wide when you meet his eyes, and you know your eyes are the very same. “You alright?” his question is simple but his voice has deepened, gotten more raspy from his arousal. You nod, breathing heavily and tell him you just need a moment to breathe. He nods, muttering an apology as his forehead meets your shoulder, breathing evenly to calm himself down.

One hand rubs along his back as the other plays with the long hair at the nape of his neck. You again hear him mutter a sorry and you shush him, “don’t be sorry, you didn’t push me Joel. It's just been years since my last makeout session. Has it been awhile for you too?" his breath fans out warm on your neck as he chuckles, placing a quick kiss to your neck, leaning back to stare at you.

He grins, licking his lips before he replies, “well, last person I made out with got pregnant so…” he barks out a laugh at your wide eyed expression, and you join him. You calm down a bit and bring your forehead to his.

“Jesus Joel, you were a damn teenager then!” his hands travel from your back, down over to rub at your thighs, fingers calloused and sending delicious thrills to boil in your belly.

“I suppose it has been a while. Care to help me make up for lost time?” his lips are just a fraction away from yours, close enough to feel his lips twist up in a smirk. You run your nails from one hand through his bearded cheek, earning you a grunt.

“Absolutely, Miller. Let’s get started.”

BACKGROUND

He was born in England to a pureblood father and half-blood mother, he was an only child. His childhood was mostly happpy and he grew up showing signs of magical abilities. At the age of four he had his first vision in a dream, it wasn’t very clear and he couldn’t understand it but he felt that it wasn’t a good thing. His mother reassured him then that it was just nightmares. Because both of his parents were aurors, working for the Order of the Phoenix, they would often leave him on Walter’s sister’s — Cassie — supervision. She was an unusual character but little Julian kinda admired her wierdness.

His entire world changed over just one summer when Julian was six years old. His parents left him with Cassie again, promising they’d be back just in time to take him on a vacation trip they’ve been talking about for the past few weeks. So he waited for them for days, turned weeks, turned months. They never came back. Although he knew that they wouldn’t left him, and that something terrible must have happened he was still unsure whether that was the case. The fact that absolutely nobody seemed to know what really happened to them wasn’t helping.

Probably the darkest time of his short life begin. He was taken away from his aunt, because the authorities stated that she’s not capable of rasing him. Then he was passed from home to home, nearly put in an orphanage for good. His visions were starting to become more intrusive and he started to experience them even when he was awake. He wouldn’t understand what’s happening to him and he also was physically unable to not to say what he saw. People around them whether it was other kids or adults were really disturbed by things he were saying due to the fact that his visions were mostly about bad stuff that were going to happen.

Almost a year later it was reaveled to him that Cassie was actively trying to get the custody over him and he eventually succeeded. After a horrible time of not being wanted by anybody he was finally reunited with the one person he actually trusted. He went back to live with Cassie and things finally started looking good for him. His aunt quickly noticed that he can experience the visions the near future and tried to explain it to him. She was an incredible help for him in understanding what all of that means and she could understand what he was going trough, because she was given the same ability.

By the time he was eleven and his letter from Hogwarts came, he could much better understand how to deal with all the things he was seeing. Although he couldn’t control when the vision would come or what he would see, he managed to distance himself from it and have a lot better coping mechanisms after the things he saw were dark or traumatic.

Her mother is Vietnamese and study aboard at England. She is a muggle, worked at a small hospital as a doctor and later, she moved to Scotland and nursing old people at an aged care center. At there, she met Siegmund wanderer around, trying to find an opportunity to talk to her. After many attempts, finally they got married. Died when give birth to Veiovis.

Brother: Jacob Williams (1967 - now)

Hard headed and hot-tempered, like to solve mystery and get evolved in troubles. Got expelled at 4th year after a very serious case that cause death to his friend, Duncan Ashe. Wandered to find “R” and got assassinated, escaped death but gone blind (his right eye). Discovered the Buried Vault but trapped in a portrait for 4 years. Childhood:

Born in Vietnam, live in Scotland with her dad and Jacob until she became an orphan. Stayed with her dad’s friend who actually doesn’t need her, only care about her money. Learn Vietnamese through books and Jacob’s Walkman. Right before she attended Hogwarts, she took all of her money with her, left house right away, never came back.

Hogwarts:

During Hogwarts, Veiovis shows no interest in making many friends but life slapped at her face. Began to search the Cursed Vault in year 1, gone through many things and broke the last Vault, save Hogwarts. Fall into depression after Rowan’s death and after the last Vault but with her friend's help, she successful surpassed it.

Day 27 - 10/16

We were lucky to have Sam and Erin take us on a tour of Red Rocks Amphitheater and the town of Golden, CO - home to Coors brewing company.

The amphitheater is built into the side of a mountain and has been used as a stage for thousands of music and comedy acts for over 100 years. We took a cool hike to the top of a rock formation, saw a snake from a distance!

To get to Golden from Red Rocks they took us over Lookout mountain - another white knuckle drive with amazing views of Denver and the Rockies. Golden is a quaint western town filled with unique shops, bars and restaurants!

PEMDAS - Special Year-End Edition - Albums

I love end of year lists because I like consensus, rankings and numbers. But consensus is all based on who gets to rank, and the people who get the most access to major publication rankings are white men, so the numbers are tainted by white supremacy, misogyny, and many other forms of bigotry.

Which makes it even more interesting to see what gets ranked where.

Here’s a Google Sheet I made of all the lists and I created a formula that basically measures how many times an album placed on a list as well as how high it placed on that list. I’m going to keep updating this list as it’s not done, but it’s fun to play around with right now!

Short Story Introduction - A Bar for Old Ghosts, Among Others

Whiskey and cigar smoke wafted through ectoplasm; pints of virgin blood and witch’s brew mixed merrily with tequila shots. They served brain globs at the front counter alongside dried peanuts. Their finest drink was champagne—save for New Years when they broke out a cask of Amontillado. That was Gone Away Gertrude’s.

It was a bar for old ghosts, among others, and had been Murphy’s existence for sixty years.

Howdy Tumblr! How do you like my little story excerpt up above? This is the opening two paragraphs of my piece, and, personally, I’d say they’re two of the best paragraphs I’ve ever written period (especially the first one). They’re incredibly descriptive, and, most importantly, atmospheric, something I really struggle to write most of the time.

With all that gushing out of the way, let’s get on with the introduction! (Full post and story link under cut)

Synopsis:

A dying man who runs a bar for supernatural creatures reflects on life and how his workaholism has destroyed all his human relationships.

Project History:

Technically, the story of this project goes all the way back to the seventh grade. More specifically, it goes all the way to a creative writing summer camp I attended after my seventh grade year called Page 15. This was my second year at the camp, and I’d learned from last year that I really shouldn’t attempt to write a hole ass novel in just one week. So I told myself: Bryana, stick to short stories, and you won’t write anything overly long and drawn out.

Oh Lord, was I naïve.

To be fair to me, I did try to keep the story short, but how could I when I tried to shove in. Every. Single. Goddamn. Character. I had living rent-free in my mind at the time. And every character had to be developed, with their own scene, their own sad backstory, etc.

And the worst part was: all of this was at the expense of my main character, Milo! (He’s been renamed Murphy in this draft). Pretty much every scene was focused on fleshing out other characters, with Murphy seemingly only existing to help them out with their personal problems. It was to the point where when, during camp, we had to figure out the personalities and internal conflict of the main character: the internal conflict I gave him was that he didn’t have character. Literally! His biggest problem in his life was that he didn’t have one! He didn’t have any family, didn’t have any friends, didn’t have any hobbies, and I tried to use that as his selling point.

Besides the characters and the overly drawn out story, one of the other flaws was the writing, which was to be expected, considering the fact I was twelve to thirteen when I wrote this. At time, it was actually an aspect I was somewhat proud of, not because it was good but because it was at least semi-competent.

Despite that, I was pretty proud of the story overall and had considered editing it to make it... well, not garbage. I liked the characters, and I loved the setting (mostly because I had the perfect music to go with it) and also it was around that time that I started watching Cheers, which definitely helped inspire me for the piece.

Unfortunately, though, after eighth grade started, I kinda pretty much lost care in the story. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it or that it didn’t mean anything to me. I just... moved on to other projects. The story never really left me though, especially the setting. Plus, I did start to find some genuine tragedy and literary merit in the idea of a story about a guy who was basically a side character in his own life, where everything he did was for other people who didn’t even know his name. Flash forward to late 2020–early 2021 when I start writing short fiction seriously, and I end up deciding to come back to this project. I don’t really know why. Maybe it’s because the original first draft was one of the first times I ever took short fiction writing seriously, or maybe I really was just that inspired by the setting.

Regardless, I decided to give this story another go, centering it on the part of the original where Murphy has a teensy-weensy breakdown after realizing he had lived his entire life for the sake of other people, none of whom even call him by his name, even people he’s known for literally a decade. At first, I made the same mistake I did in the first draft where I included too many people and tried to dwell too deeply in their backstory (though this time I did it to show how much Murphy’s life is dominated by other people). I couldn’t really keep the story centered like that though, so I had to cut most of it out. There are still a million and one characters, with hints of deeper motivations that Murphy definitely knows.

When I started writing this story, I had really, really hoped that it would my piece de resistance. I wanted it to have my best prose, to be incredibly atmospheric, to have my most well-rendered characters, etc. And in the end, it didn’t have that, no matter how much I edited. It wasn’t just for ego, or because I wanted to push myself to my creative limits. I thought that my pwecious wittle idea deserved that level of poetic greatness, without realizing that, in the end, it really didn’t need it. In the end, this story is a simple, sad, slice-of-life tale about wondering where the hell life went, and, if it weren’t for the semi-fantastical setting, that’s all it would be, and that would be its best form. My story doesn’t need to be like something published in the Adroit Journal. It just needed to be itself.

And I really love it as itself.

3. Love Can Kill

“It’s hard for me to say what needs to be said; consequence of loving me can be cruel. You’re gonna suffer now whatever you do. Too much love can kill, get swallowed by the wave, no matter how you feel”

There was nothing better than celebrating a good week of work than a glass of wine, sushi and a horror movie. Strange combination but it was my favorite. It was my night off at work and I had wanted to make that plan for a long time but I could not for obvious reasons. When I wasn’t working, I was taking care of the apartment or training in the gym.

I had been living in Vegas for a month and hardly knew the city and the places I knew were because of work. I didn’t have much of a social life but that hadn’t stopped me from going places alone. Sometimes I almost preferred it, even though there were other times when I preferred company.

I sat on the couch, covered myself with a blanket and hit the play. As soon as I did it, like Murphy’s Law, the phone rang. My intention was to ignore the call, ¿but who was going to call me at this time? Let me answer that; my supervisor.

-¿Grissom? –I answered the call.

-¡Laura! ¿Are you at home?

-Yeah, I am.. ¿Why?

-Look I know that it’s your night off and your contract says that you can’t work more than 40 hours a week but we really need some help here, I was wondering if you could..

-I’ll be there –I cut him off before he could finish the question- Just text me the address.

I jumped off the couch, left the sushi in the fridge and got dressed to head to the crime scene. It was the sixth night in a row I’d be working but I needed the real CSI experience; working a lot of hours and pulling double shifts.

I parked the car next to the police tape and when I crossed it, I saw Grissom waiting for me at the entrance of the mansion. As I walked towards him, I observed the atmosphere of a high class party. Expensive dresses and expensive suits and among them, Jim Brass stood out, questioning some attendees. We nod and then I got to Grissom.

-¡Hey! ¡Thanks for coming! –he greeted- This house belongs to Portia Richmond, a legendary showgirl back in the day.

-¿Is she the victim? –I asked.

-No, it’s an unidentified woman. She was found in the pool –he explained- This is a big house so divide and conquer. Nick is doing the sketch of the house, you’ll be in the pool with Catherine and Warrick.

It wasn’t hard for me to find the pool as it was as big as the garden. Catherine was looking for evidence in the grass and Warrick was swimming in the pool. I couldn’t help but laugh at him. It was my way of saying Hello.

-¡Marco! –I screamed.

-Polo –Warrick answered sticking his head out from under water.

-I thought you weren’t working tonight –Catherine she said as she approached.

-I wasn’t, actually I had plans but Grissom said you have a lot of work so I don’t mind –I answered as I put on some gloves, then I saw Warrick getting out of the pool with something in his hand- ¿Can I get you a towel, sir?

-Yeah, please –he smiled- I found a cufflink, initials CM.

-Turquoise and silver.. –Catherine said looking at it- Something out of the south west maybe; Arizona, New Mexico, Texas..

-I’ll check the guest list for CMs –I assured.

-I’m gonna be wet all night.. –Catherine and I laughed and because of that he splashed us with water.

After examining the garden and pool, Catherine as Grissom’s right hand, assigned Warrick to another case that had happened that night. He wasn’t happy about the change but since Sara was at a forensics convention, one of them had to be on the new case.

-Jim, ¿what do we know about Portia Richmond? –Gil asked.

-According to her friends, she’s been romancing for over a month and she’s cruising the Mediterranean in some yacht –Brass explained as we walked into the main hall- Got a couple watching the house.

The couple Brass was talking about was sitting on the central sofa in the living room. They were both elegantly dressed and you could say they were good looking.

-Mr, Mrs. Haynes, this is Gil Grissom, Catherine Willows and Laura Serrano, from the Crime Lab –Brass introduced us- ¿Do you mind if we ask a few more questions?

-By all means –Mr. Haynes spoke.

-¿How is it that you know Portia Richmond?

-We met her at the top of the Mediterranean –she answered- It was like we’ve known Portia all our lives.

-We were new in town, Portia introduced us around and took us under her wing –he continued- We are house sitting while hunting for our place. Portia refused to take any money from us.

-That’s why when she took out to Europe we offered to host this charity event.

-¿Did you know the deceased woman? –Grissom asked.

-No, as far as I know, she wasn’t even on the guest list –he answered for both-¿Something wrong?

-Yes.. –Grissom nodded- A woman is dead.

When I entered the morgue, Doctor Robbins was in a corner with his back turned to me and a strange noise was coming out of that area. I looked at him puzzled not knowing what was happening until he turned with two cups of coffee. He offered me one.

-Don’t tell anybody –he said- My weakness; One Macchiato Tall.

-¡Thanks! ¡I really need coffee!

-I know –I looked at him surprised- Everyone is talking about your first time working so many days in a row.

-Glad to be news –I mumbled- Coffee machine courtesy of the city, I presume.

-When the coroner asks for something they don’t question it –I nodded and followed him to the autopsy table- We are still working on the ID, but she’s had a few upgrades; rhinoplasty, silicone breasts..

-The implants have a number, if we run it I think we can get an ID –he smiled, like he was testing me- Wait a second, you already knew that.

-I wanted to know if you did, very well –he continued- We have a full menu here; petechial hemorrhaging, bruising around the neck and no water in the lungs. Now, ¿what’s the cause of death?

-No water in the lungs indicates that she was dead when she hit the water and from the bruising around the neck I’d say she was strangled –Doc nodded agreeing- So, in this case we have to photograph her injuries and run a sex assault kit.. strangulation is a man’s crime.

-Already did that, but very good –I was going to leave, but before I did, he took the mug out of my hands and looked at me- This is our little secret.

When the rest of the team returned to the lab, Grissom told me to team up with Nick. He and Catherine were going to keep track of some music boxes they had found in Portia’s house. The task that my partner and I had to do was analyze the DNA from the sex assault kit and the DNA from a red nail that we had found in the garden a few hours ago. To do the task, we had to bring the evidence to Greg, because he was the DNA expert. Along the way, I yawned twice and Nick laughed at me both times.

-¡Hey! ¡You don’t get to laugh! –I said to him- I’m tired.

-¿You? ¿Tired? ¡I thought you never sleep! –I yawned again and he smiled- ¡Nice!

We were walking into the lab when Greg hit the radio on the play and a heavy metal song started playing. He was spinning on his chair in a happy mood. I leaned on the table and watched him as the two of them greeted each other.

-You’re awake –I said- I hate you.

-Couple of glasses of Merlot.. slept like a baby –he answered with a smile.

-Just so you know, you weren’t the only one who had a glass of wine –I remembered.

-That sounds like Grissom ruined your date –Nick mumbled.

-I would need a man for a date, which I don’t have –I faked smile- Check for DNA in the sexual assault kit and the fingernail please.

-Everything has to be in CODIS, as soon as possible –Nick added.

-¿Do you know who is going to authorize my overtime? –Greg said while taking the evidence.

-Suck it up, Greg. You’re well rested.

-¿Do you want a Valium for her? –Greg asked looking at Nick.

-¡I’ve heard that! –I said as I was walking away.

I got to the break room and sat on the first chair I found. I wasn’t regretting agreeing to work, but I couldn’t understand how the team kept up, I assumed that it was thanks to caffeine and habit. I noticed a hand placing gently on my shoulder, so I looked up and saw my partner looking at me in a worried way.

-Hang in there, this only happens the first day –he tried to cheer me up- I’m going to make coffee for both of us, ¿okay?

-I’ve had so much coffee that I think there’s some blood running through my caffeine system, but I really could use one –I joked- Thanks, Nick.

As I watched Nick making coffee with the machine, I realized how kind and attentive he was. Luckily, my colleagues were friendly and good people and I was sure that anyone could have taken the time and concern about my first week of work in a row but he stood out in some way. Maybe it was his Texas charm or the fact that I was starting to like him. Either way, there was no denying that he was one of a kind.

While the coffee was brewing, I took the opportunity to look at the messages that I couldn’t see before. My best friend from Spain, Sanja, sent me a voice note, which surprised me quite a bit since she rarely sends voice messages.

¡Hola Laura! ¡Espero que estés disfrutando y aprendiendo mucho en Las Vegas! Aquí te echamos mucho de menos y se nota tu ausencia.. Cuando nos volvamos a ver, tendrás que prepararte tus chistes malos. Te envío este mensaje para decirte que ya tenemos fecha para la boda y será el 22 de Mayo. Sabemos que ya estarás por aquí para esta fecha, además me haría mucha ilusión que fueses mi dama de honor, así que espero tener una respuesta pronto. ¡Besos!

I replied to her message with a silly smile on my face. Having news from her made me happy and had even woke me up a bit. Nick offered me the cup of coffee and I thanked him with a smile.

-¿Who’s getting married? –he asked as he sat down in front of me.

-¿You know Spanish? –if my friend’s message hadn’t woke me up, Nick’s question had.

-Oh yeah –he nodded proudly- I’m fluent, actually.

-You’re kidding.

-No te engaño –he said with an American accent, but he said it right- What can I say, I have many hidden talents.

-I hope to discover them someday –I smiled and left my phone on the table- A couple of days before coming to Vegas, it was my birthday and we had this celebration / farewell party. My male best friend took the opportunity to propose to my female best friend.

-You must be excited for the wedding then, since they are so close to you.

-They are –I nodded with a nostalgic smile- They are my family.

-¿How are you adapting? ¿You’ve been here a month, haven’t you? ¿You like the city so far? I guess you’ve walked down The Strip, ridden the rollercoaster, you’ve seen the Bellagio fountains..

-Actually, I’ve only been to the Welcome Sign –I admitted with my head down.

-¡No way! We are going to fix that, señorita –he said with a sexy accent and looked at me- I’ll make you a list of things to do in Vegas and if you don’t want to do them alone, you can tell anyone on the team.

-Nick, it’s really not necessary..

-No, yes it is –he nodded convinced- But I have to warn you, I have guiding fees and I will charge you.

We both started laughing at Nick’s comment and for the first time in hours, I felt like I was totally present at the time. Greg opened the door behind me and entered the room all excited.

-You guys are never gonna believe this; sexual assault kit on the victim came back positive for semen BUT nothing.. ran it through CODIS and seminal DNA matches a cold case from Texas, ¡a dead cheerleader! ¡ten years ago!

The track of the music boxes leaded Catherine and Grissom to Portia’s mansion once again. From what they told us, they had caught the housekeeper couple having sex, but the most important finding was what they found in the fireplace; a tooth. The idea was to compare it to Portia Richmond, since the disappearance was strange, but there were no references, so Catherine and Brass went to the Liberace Museum, where they had on display the headdress that Portia wore when she was a showgirl and brought it to Greg.

My partner went to reception to receive the package containing the file case from Texas, while I stayed looking for Patrick and Amanda’s social security numbers. We needed a little background on the couple. I had been searching for 30 minutes when I heard music coming out of the DNA Lab, so I got up from my chair and walked over. Greg came out of the lab kicking in the air and moving his hips, like he was dancing, while wearing Portia’s headdress on his head.

I leaned against the wall and covered my mouth so he wouldn’t see me laugh, even though I couldn’t help it. I wondered if Greg did that kind of silly things because he was like that or to make other people laugh. Either way, he finished the song looking at me with his arms outstretched and his mouth open with a smile. I approached him and applauded.

-I think you should take that thing off Greg, it’s evidence –I said with a smile- But I’m going to admit that the dance was very sensual.

-I already got all the evidence out of it.

Suddenly, Grissom turned the corner and appeared behind Greg. He stood up and looked at him as if he did not believe what he was seeing. Grissom took off his glasses and I could swear he was analyzing him. I cleared my throat to let Greg know and then I laughed again.

-I compared the DNA from the tooth with the hair follicles found inside the headdress, we have a match and I think we have a homicide. Excuse me –he nodded and walked again into the lab like nothing happened.

After the show was over, I went back to the computer and kept looking. A few minutes later, Nick showed up with the case file. I finally found the social security number, but apparently Patrick Haynes was an 8-month-old baby who died 10 years ago. And Nick found that the suspect in the dead cheerleader’s case was called Chad Matthews. The initials C.M.

After that discovery, the next thing we had to do was find out who this Chad Matthews was and where Portia Richmond really was. If she really was in the Mediterranean her bank statements would confirm it. Brass pulled out the bank statements for us to check them and also all the information about this guy. Apparently, Austin Police Department had 5 aliases for Chad Matthews and Denver Police Department sent him copies of his journal; guy kept lists of rick woman all over the country. Guess who was on that list.

-According to her credit card statements, Portia Richmond hasn’t spent a dime since she’s been in the Mediterranean –Catherine said- Maybe she’s been swept off her feet.

-Yeah –Nick smiled- Some guys still like to foot the bill.

-¿Really? ¿How would you know? –I asked him in a surprised way.

-Hey, I only dodge girls if they ask the wrong questions –he looked at me- For example, ¿what do you drive?

-It’s an honest question –Catherine confessed.

-No, no it’s not –he laughed and looked at both of us- What it means is how much money do you make so you can take care of me.

-Well, not this girl –I added in response.

Brass paged us to have breakfast all together and talk about the case; we needed to get something clear out of everything. Without noticing, the night passed and it was 7 am and eating food was a good idea to help me stay awake. We walked to the bar, which was two blocks away and sat at a table for four. The waitress treated us kindly and it didn’t take long to bring us the food.

-¿Did anyone tell Grissom we were having breakfast?

-Yeah –Brass nodded- Dispatch left him a message but maybe he thought it was the sheriff and blew it off.

-Let’s talk about motive –Catherine started- We’ve got a missing widow, her bloody tooth found in her own bedroom which is currently occupied by two moes.

-And one of our moes has six names that we know of incluiding Chad Matthews –Nick added.

-Right, and we’ve got a cuff link with the initials C.M. found in the bottom of the pool along with a floating showgirl –Brass spoke.

-A showgirl who was sleeping with six men rolled into one, Patrick Haynes.

-So, the Hayneses controlled Portia Richmond’s bank account but they had to stick around for the checks to clear, ¿so why kill Lacey Duvall?

-I don’t know, but if Lacey Duvall hadn’t been murdered Patrick Haynes reinvents himself and becomes another Skippy in another state, $1.6 mil richer.

Apparently, while we were having breakfast, Grissom visited the mansion again and realized something, which led him to crack de case. As soon as he had the confirmation he expected of some DNA results but he didn’t tell us anything else, he just called us back to the Lab. Someone had to be arrested.

-On behalf of the State of Nevada, my apologies, you’ve been cleared of all charges –Brass said and when Patrick Haynes smiled victoriously..- But on behalf of the State of Texas, you’re under arrest. You’re being extradited for the murder of Lana Grimshaw.

-I slept with her but I didn’t kill her.

-Just like with Lacey Duvall –Catherine nodded.

An officer opened the door and let Mr. Haynes’s wife in. Grissom smirked.

-Now I see it, the family resemblance–he said looking at both- Donnie and Marie. Brother and sister and I got the DNA to prove it. Let me tell you what else I can prove, your sister killed Lacey Duvall.

Patrick got into his feet and walked towards Amanda.

-¿You’re surprised? Look at your face.. you never made a mistake until you met her.

-¿You killed Lacey because I told her about us?

-I had no choice –Amanda swallowed and nodded proudly- We were partners, you can’t grift me Chad.

-Uh.. ¿Who wants to tell us about Portia Richmond? –Catherine asked.

-She’s in Europe –Patrick turned around and sticked to his story- On a yacht, in Greece.

-Oh, right. She’s incommunicado –Brass added.

-Old testament, The Book of Jonah; “And now, the Lord arranged for a great fish to swallow up Jonah” –Grissom stepped forward and put a cloth-covered container in the center of the table, he pulled off the cloth to show a container with a couple of fish from the pond outside the Richmond Mansion- ¿You know what’s wrong with the piranha, thought? They’ve got high cholesterol.

-Cholesterol is found in humans, not fish –Catherine explained- ¿So how does a fish acquire human cholesterol?

Patrick sat down and looked at the fish. Amanda stood there, looking at him.

-You’re both under arrest for the murder of Portia Richmond.

Officially, my work week was over and I just had one day off, but I didn’t care. I had learned a lot working this case, I made connections with my colleagues and experienced what it was to be a CSI. I went to collect my things to the locker room and I found Warrick collecting his too. He appeared to be tired and with many things on his mind.

-¡Hey! ¿How was the case? ¿What was it about? –I asked.

-Dead guy on an elevator –he replied reluctantly- Unsolved.

-¿Why do I feel like there’s something else..?

-Victim was a gambler.

-¿..And you don’t like gambling? –he closed the locker door and looked at me with puppy eyes and I understood it- Oh.. on the contrary.. you like it too much.

-¿You know Holly Gribbs died because I left the crime scene, right? –he sighed and sat on the bench- I left to go make a pit stop. I was gambling and she was dying.

-¿Do you want to talk about it? –I sat beside him.

-No –he smiled slightly and looked at me sideways- Besides, you are tired and you should really go to sleep.

-Warrick, if you have a problem, ignoring it isn’t going to make it go away –I place my hand on his shoulder to show him support- Besides, I always have time for my friends, no matter how sleepy I am.
