a/n: a part two of if u think i’m pretty (read for more context), was working on this at first then scrapped it but now after some encouragement, we are so back, this might be a little shorter but i hope it’s worth while <3

summary: after you and joe hooked up at the super bowl party, you two start working on rekindling your relationship. your insecurities about dating and being in a relationship again start to get in the way, making you wary of letting your guard down. joe notices that something is off so he decides to surprise you.

ever since that night you and joe hooked up, you two have been talking and catching up from the time lost from when you weren’t in contact with him. you both followed each other again on social media and you gave him your new number before leaving his hotel the next morning.

texts and facetime calls grew more frequent as you both were in the off-season now. you couldn’t help but miss him even though you only saw him for one night. you had no idea what you were stood with him relationship wise but you knew that something was brewing again between the two of you.

“i have something to confess.” you grab your phone off the bathroom counter as you did your skincare routine before you settle in bed for the night. you laugh slightly, “okay, what is it?”

he couldn’t help but admire you as if he was there with you. “i started failing statistics on purpose just so i could talk to you more.” you rolled your eyes playfully and laughed, “that is so dumb, joe, you could’ve just talked to me.”

he shrugged, “i know.. but we wouldn’t be where we are now if i hadn’t, now would we?” you sighed, “i guess you do have a point..”

while you were particularly happy with being on better terms with him, something was weighing and gnawing in your gut at the same time. you couldn’t help but overthink about how things can quickly go from good to worse, feeling like you’re inevitably waiting for the other shoe to drop. as if joe was just going to decide that he wasn’t ready to be with you again.

the dreaded thought of having to possibly break up with him again was something that was difficult for you to face. you didn’t want things to end up like last time or never talking to him anymore. you couldn’t bare having to watch his life from the sidelines like you have while you two were broken up.

when you first dated joe, you weren’t used to the type of love he showed you. he was always kind and patient with you, which was fairly new to you. he never raised his voice at you or lost his temper towards you. he was the first person you allowed yourself to fully open up to and accepted you with open arms.

with these heavy thoughts weighing on you, the last thing you wanted to do was tell him. you didn’t want to scare him away or make him believe it was his fault. you gradually start to withdraw from him, answering his texts a bit more longer than usual and coming up with excuses to not call him.

joe noticed something was off about you but couldn’t tell where it was coming from. he thought over everything he’s said so far over and over again but wasn’t able to tell what he said or did that was pushing you away. he checked his phone for the fifth time tonight, seeing that he was on delivered still.

he sighed, putting his phone back on his nightstand and turning his attention back to the random show he put on for background noise. he was in miami with sam and nick after attending ufc 299, while they both went out to after parties, he decided to stay in his hotel for the night, wanting to talk to you instead.

then it was like a sudden light bulb turning on in his brain, he had to show you that he cares about however you were feeling was important to him. he wanted to show how much he cares about you and that he loves you. he needed to see you.

he texts you again, asking for your address because he wanted to send you flowers. he set his phone to the side so that he wasn’t constantly checking for a text back. the text tone went off and he looked to see that you finally answered, sending over your address. then sending another one saying: “you are so cute :)”

he then looks up flights to san francisco, hoping there was one leaving right away. to his luck, he found a flight for early tomorrow afternoon and booked the ticket for it. his stomach was doing backflips at the thought of seeing you again, wanting to enjoy his time off with you while he could.

he couldn’t get settled into bed, being too excited about surprising you and wanting to sleep during the flight there instead of waiting anxiously the whole time. he hoped that you would love seeing him again and that you missed him just as much.

you woke up to a knock on your front door, leaving your bedroom door open the night before. your best friend and roommate, julie, was out of town so you had the apartment all to yourself. you wore one of joe’s old lsu shirts, which was still oversized on you despite the years you kept it.

you get up out of bed, hearing another knock. you rub your eyes, drowsy from sleep and putting on your hello kitty slippers. you wondered if julie had come home early or it was one of your neighbors. walking down the hall and reaching the front door, you open it, seeing joe standing there with his luggage and a bouquet of colorful flowers in his hand.

your eyes lit up, not being able to believe he was right there in front of you. he beamed, “i told you i wanted to send you flowers.” he hands you the bouquet while you smell them, taking in the fresh floral scent wafting in your nose. he follows you inside, closing the door and leaving his stuff to the side while you set the flowers onto the counter.

he walked over to you, pulling you into a loving embrace. you stood on your tippy toes, wrapping your arms around his neck and burying your face into his shoulder. he spoke cheekily, “i like your shirt. where did you get it?” you moved away from his shoulder, looking up at him. you smiled, “some cute guy gave it to me.” he laughed, “oh really? you might have to thank him for it.”

you replied sultry, “i think i might have an idea on how to do that..” your lips tenderly brush over his, placing them in a familiar, soft kiss. you both grinned into the kiss, your hands moving down to his chest while he wrapped one arm around your waist. his free hand squeezes and palms at your ass, your mouth parting slightly as you moan against his lips.

he slipped his tongue inside, your tongues exploring each other’s mouths. he moves his mouth away from yours while he quickly spoke, “jump.” you jumped, he holds you up and you wrapped your legs around his waist. your fingers tangled into his soft hair, kissing him heatedly and sloppily. his hands cupped the plush flesh of your ass again and carrying you into your bedroom, kicking the door shut behind him.

you snuggled into his bare chest while he was holding you against him, playing with your hair. you asked, “how long did you want to stay here?” he shrugged while he laid underneath you, “i can stay however long you want me to.” you lifted your head up from his chest, “well, my roommate is gone for the next two weeks so we have the place to ourselves.”

you trailed your finger down his chest, looking at him with doe eyes. he pressed his lips against yours in a couple of lingering, delicate kisses. he smiled, “that sounds perfect.. i missed you, baby.” you said, “i missed you too, pretty boy.” he laughed, “pretty boy? i think you’re the pretty one here.” you scoffed playfully, “you know if you’re trying to get in my pants again, you should just ask.. i will say yes.”

you both laughed as you cuddled closer into his shoulder and he leaves a kiss against your forehead. you wondered aloud, “so what made you want to come over here? not that i mind that you’re here or anything.” he answered, “i knew something was off so i wanted to come see what’s wrong.” you sighed, playing with his fingers and intertwining them with yours.

“i’m just scared of us not being able to make things work like after we graduated, i don’t want anything bad to happen between us..” he nodded, understanding why you feared these things. “i get what you’re saying. i just want you to know that i want to be with you and that i’ve never stopped caring about you.”

his thumb caresses your hand, bringing it closer to his face and kissing it. you let go of his hand and place yours on his cheek, pulling him in a loving kiss. he felt his anxiety wash into a wave of relief knowing that he wasn’t intentionally pushing you away.

you laid back down onto his chest, playing with his fingers once more. he traced small circles on your back, taking in the fact that he was in your bed again, wondering if he should pinch himself and snap out of this but it was very much real. he looked down at you, seeing that you were fast asleep on his chest and hearing your quiet, nasally snores.

he smiled at you, gently kissing the top of your head so he didn’t disrupt your sleep. he looked over and saw your copy of “normal people” on the nightstand, lightly grabbing it off the wooden surface while he tried not to move too much. he flipped through the pages, being careful to not lose your spot on what part you were reading.

he landed on the page where your bookmark was placed, seeing that you used an old photo booth strip of the two of you from back when you first started dating. he smiled at the photos fondly, ranging from one that was cute to a couple of silly ones and the last one being you kissing him on the cheek. he kept his copy as a bookmark too, blushing at the mere thought of how in sync you were even from far away.

he closed the book, putting it back where it was beforehand. he then grabbed the blanket on the side of you, covering you both up for warmth despite the sun shining through the window. he loved how the sunlight illuminated your features as you faintly snored on top of him. he cuddled closer to you, wanting to be more near you despite the fact that you were laying on his chest.

he fell asleep, relieved that he didn’t scare you off. he was also happy that he was able to be next to you again, never wanting to leave this moment.

I know you've written about similar things before a little but I am sick with a cold rn and I have no idea what is going on but its like I've been blasted with dottore fixation juice.

Dotties morning voice is just so... mghanhgh... he grumbles in your ear from behind about some idiot that spilled a valuable substance on even more valuable notes, nibbling on your earlobe just a little while his arms are wrapped around your waist and grasping at your shirt.

Nearly growling right in your ear as you try to get up to go to the bathroom, he already has so little freetime to sleep with you, now you're trying to leave? When you whine and pout like a puppy, begging him to come cuddle with you for days and when he finally gives in you try to leave?! (No you aren't leaving for the next hour at least, you're gonna have to hold it in.)

Ah... and being sick right now. Its nothing serious but half the time I sit around feeling half dead... I should be drinking lots of water and resting but I don't wanna! He needs to force you into bed and under the sheets, grumbling with an annoyed frown on his face. I don't like soups very much either... especially the ones meant for when you're sick, they're just icky! He tells you to shut up and eat because you're not gonna get any better running around like a headless chicken while also spreading your disease to his underlings. If you still adamantly refuse he will not hesitate to just grab your face and shove the spoon into your mouth...

Little baby zandik is worried about you and wants you to read him a story but your voice is too hoarse to do that... Dottore scoffs at his child self but allows him near you. Baby zandik happily cuddles with you even if your breath is raspy and your body shivers but skin is too hot.

Obviously I love softie and secretly a sweetie dottie but I've been going circles with a quiet and always seemingly irritated dottie... he obviously loves you and worries for you but he's not gonna start babying you! It's just something about that kind of quiet dominance... where he can only give you a disapproving shake of his head when you do something dumb, or that disappointed dad tone when you hurt yourself... villain who's secretly sweet for their lover is always cute but grumpy x sunshine is a very close second... I think I may have accidentally made him sound mean and uncaring? I mean it in a way that he acts kind of like that but he really does love you!! Idk how to explain and I'm really just going off on my sick brain rambles rn... 😔 I wish dottie was real I need a mean cuddle buddy who bites me when I say something stupid...

OMGGG BABY ZANDY TOO I LOVE HIM SMM 😭😭🙏❤️❤️ He is the most precious baby 😭 he opens your door a crack and peeks inside repeatedly, so worried about you until you beckon him inside and he seats at your bedside troubled. He misses your piggy back rides and stories so bad :( and will happily cuddle with you if it makes you feel better! Zandy will even read you the story this time!

AND DW ANON I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU’RE COMING FROM BECAUSE I LOVE BOTH SIDES OF DOTTORE ❤️🤭🤭 HE’S SO BOTH!! He’s still just that guy who struggles with being nice outwardly, who can be mean and grouchy to you every now and then, but I think you’ve been with him enough to understand how he truly feels you know? I think he feels sort of nice that he can finally have someone who can deal with his words and won’t get scared or mad at him :) But the Doctor really does love you teehee!! Frislandic Nominal Morphology - the other bits

OK, finally picking this up again after having dropped it while being in America, let's finish off the rest of the `nominal' morphological bits, continuing from where the last post on the topic left off.

First off, adjectives. There are five. Yep. It's one of those languages. Count them on one hand: zað 'good'; bijt 'bad'; da 'big'; nis 'small'; and suoj 'old'. These are relatively boring, as there's no agreement morphology or anything fun like that, and they are basically just preposed to the noun they modify. Anything else that's adjective-like involves the genitive, either of a noun or of a nominalised verb, e.g. akke makk 'red house'; daraki dakk 'long penis' = 'penis of length'; biji sijr 'glorious victory'; korne bæb 'new-born infant'.

These five adjectives do have one bit of morphology to call their own, which is that they have a comparative (as with Indo-European, this is almost certainly originally an intensive form, as indicated by its use in older texts, but is very much a comparative/superlative form in the modern language). This was historically a *-kʰakV suffix in Proto-Frislandic, but as per usual with this language this is basically irregulr now and each of the adjectives has a different form because of the stem-alternations that resulted from the application of this suffix. Thus the modern comparative forms are zake 'better/best'; bij(ð)ke 'worse/worst'; dake 'bigger/biggest'; nikke 'smaller/smallest'; and sosjke 'older/oldest' respectively. Of these, there is some variation as to whether zake or dake is used to form additional comparatives, e.g. dake/zake akke makk 'redder/reddest house'; dake daraki dakk 'longer/longest penis'; zake biji sijr 'more/most glorious victory'.

Next the numerals and other quantifiers. These have a slightly funky syntax, because as with Slavic these form the heads of the phrases that they are in, with the quantified nominal in the genitive, e.g. makke nar 'two houses'; tieli wn 'one day'; kambe dum 'eight nights'; uole tuo 'more beer'. This is reversed for the ordinals, so nare makk 'second house', dumi kamb 'eighth night', but note also the irregular gul tiel 'first day'.

I've decided I'll tackle the pronominals (personal, demonstrative and interrogative) separately in the next post because they have their own quirks which mean I can't quite fit them neatly into this post. However, I will not here that Frislandic indefinites are based on generic nominals, specifically nan 'person'/nag 'people' for 'someone'; ang 'thing' for 'something'; æt(eð) 'place' for 'somewhere'; and geroð 'sometimes'.

I will also discuss postpositions here as they interact with the case system in interesting ways. In essence this depends on the original word class of the postposition: former nouns occur with the genitive while former verbs take either the absolutive or dative (mostly lexically determined, but many can take either, marking direction vs. location respectively). So ne makk morsj 'through the house'; ne makkeð nomb 'in front of the house'; ne makk nomb 'to the front of the house'; ne makke gær 'inside of the house'.

Pronominal complements of postpositions of all kinds use the pronominal prefixes, with the applicative de- prefix serving as the dative equivalent for postpositions which show variation, e.g. m'uorsj 'through me'; meðnomb 'in front of me' (but m'ar 'mine'); menomb '(to) in front of me'; m'ær 'in me'.

A complete list of postpositions is as follows:

Absolutive only: gejn 'to(wards)'; kon 'from'; gæm 'with, using'; morsj 'through'; nej 'across'; bir 'without'

Absolutive/Dative: sisj 'behind'; nomb 'in front'; inz 'around'; zib 'like, as'; mw 'against'

Dative only: kalað 'about, concerning'; ar 'of' (note also the pronominal forms: m'ar 'of mine'; k'ar 'of yours'; segar 'of ours'; begar 'of yours (pl.)'; ar 'of theirs'; okkar 'of ones own')

Genitive only: tuong 'past, beyond'; butt 'below'; bætt 'on top of'; gær 'inside, among'; æteð 'near to'; sag 'because of'; deseð 'for, on behalf of'; swl 'beside'; biend 'along with'; ien 'between'

Nickname : My name is super short so I don’t really have any. Some people call me Lia or Nate tho (but that second one has literally nothing to do with my name). But yeah you can call me Lily, Lia or Nate. :)

Height : About 170cm, but idk what that is in feet tho oops. :3

Last movie I saw : I think it was How To Train Your Dragon 3. I cried like a baby.

Favorite artists : That’s a hard one but here’s a non-exhaustive list... Imagine Dragons, Elvis Presley, Lomepal, Lana Del Rey, The Beach Boys, NoMBe, and so on.

Back to the musical hotbed of Toronto we go for the latest from HONORS, an alt-R&B song more than worthy of an honorable mention, if not a whole lot of gushing praise. The collective, who’s been teasing us with a string of stellar singles for the past three years, are finally prepared to release their debut album. Feel Better is its lead single and title track, an anthemic ode to all who embrace their status as underdogs while being overlooked. It’s a tribute to the broken and the lonely, who thrive on being so. Feel Better is a dark atmospheric, spacious burning track, akin to Post Malone meets Joji, with a fittingly cinematic and dimly lit music video. On ‘CHROMATOPIA’, NoMBe Rediscovers Himself [Q&A]

In the wake of the most outrageous year of anyone’s life, it’s inevitable that change occured not only in the world around you but within yourself. For many, self-realization and development was a huge thing to come out of our collective time alone. For artists in particular, it allowed them to get in touch with their inner writing skills. But, there was also a chance to be a progressive thinker, to become the ultimate activist. Then, to be able to put all of that outward thinking and infuse it into your writing.

That’s what we got to talk about a bit with NoMBE. Following the release of his sophomore album, CHROMATOPIA, we dive into what influenced his writing and the steps that he took to create his most impressive and expressive piece of work yet.

OTW: This past year has been quite like any other. Take us through everything that happened. What kind of threw you for a loop? What setbacks occurred?

NoMBe: Well, I was supposed to release this album in April of 2020, so basically when everything got crazy with the protests and me getting arrested by cops, everything just getting so wild online and globally, I decided to hold the album back. And, of course, all the tours are cancelled. We're supposed to start our tour in May and there was a whole US tour that we had planned, which was then followed by my guitar player actually suing me and all kinds of stuff.

With George Floyd being murdered and me ultimately also getting evicted from my music studio for having protesters spend the night, it was just a lot. So, I decided to move away because of all that, and was invited by a good musician friend to make that transition.

It's definitely shaped my music in a lot of ways, where I think I had to get a lot out creatively that touched on politics, or how I was feeling with anxiety and sort of the heaviness of everything. It also affected my process. In a sense where I couldn't make music for like two or three months, which is very unlike me, that's never happened in my entire adult life. So, it was really a lot, and I'm just now getting back into space where I'm very excited to create, very excited to also make just positive music and dive deeper into the lyrics, but it's opened me up a bit more to talk about other things.

I think typically my catalog has always been love songs, introspective, sort of very personal songs about friendship, family, life, and security. A lot of it is about relationships and love. Now, I feel like I’m more empowered to have more political songs quite frankly and talk about heavier subjects.

Tell us a little bit about the name CHROMATOPIA, where does that come from?

Yeah, well CHROMATOPIA is actually a book about color theory that my creative director had. And initially, the album was going to be called Electric Soul. As I kept working on it, and as we sort of figured out what the brand is going to be, we realized that we wanted it to be way brighter. I wanted to talk about sort of the spectrum of my relationship, sort of on a micro and macro level. The very personal side of the album, which is my relationship... I've been monogamous for many years and had this idea that love is a spectrum. It's also the Japanese I use on my cover art; it basically means love is a spectrum. So, coming to terms with that is one aspect of it and the ups and downs of my relationship, how I've had a lot of blissful moments but also really tough moments, and that's why it's sort of a rollercoaster ride lyrically with the album.

I always call it like a conceptual break up album, where it's like if you basically sabotaged a relationship and you kind of daydream what would it really be like to not be with that person, how they feel and sort of the insecurities and fears that come with that. So that's sort of why I thought the color spectrum was a good representation. It's like on one end, the openness of the relationship and the nuance of the ups and downs. I think we fall on a spectrum anyways. You know, I think nobody is 100% straight. Nobody's 100% purely masculine. We're all somewhere on the spectrum. The way blue becomes turquoise slowly, or becomes teal. So that is literally what CHROMATOPIA came from.

There's so many variations of vibes on this new album. Some are a little more groovy, some are a little slower. What track specifically stands out to you and speaks to you the most out of all the tracks that you wrote?

NoMBe: Oh, that's a very good question. I don't even think I can say. I would say they're, like, all my babies, you know? I think “This is Not a Love Song” and “Prototype” are tied for my favorites. They're definitely top five, but I love “Paint California,” I love “Water into Wine.” Actually, they're just like different vibes, you know, they appeal to different parts of me.

What's been your favorite part about making this album? What has been your biggest and happiest highlight out of the whole process?

I loved living on the farm and making the album. I had a bunch of demos from 2018 from after the first album came out. I want to say I had like 70 to 100 demos. So I was just prepping the whole year. In 2018, we did a tour, we did all this other stuff that didn't really allow me the time to hone into what the second album was going to be. Then I took a trip to Japan for Christmas that year and I realized like, okay, I wanted to have a bit of the 1980’s, Japanese pop-filled, modular sounds, mixed with classical music. There was all this stuff in my head.

In early 2019, I decided I want to rent a spot. Either a house by the beach, a cabin or something like that. I want to get out of here, bring all my equipment and just lock in for like 34 months, you know? So, my manager found this animal rescue farm and I just built a really awesome studio there. It was sad to have to break it down eventually. It was just like this weird, almost tiny house on a farm. Horses, goats, pigs, and I just living out there in the valley. It was so serene being with the animals, the weather was always great and just making music ‘till late at night to the rain and everything.

Sometimes I couldn't sleep, and I would go into stable and hang out with the horse in the middle of the night. It was a very magical process, and I think that's something a lot of artists want, even though it doesn't require that to make music. But, why not? You know what I mean? It was just nice. Like, waking up, pulling up a project, having my coffee and just being out there. It was super cool. I want to create, and I just want to do this forever. So yeah, that was probably my favorite part.

Tell us a little bit about the evolution of your music and process from They Might Have Even Loved Me to now.

I think some of the songs were originally supposed to be on They Might Have Even Loved Me, and then I was like, “Oh I'll use them for the next record and make this gritty rock record even more than They Might Have Even Loved Me.” You know, you finish one thing, you start a new one and set out to make this one record and what I was making wasn't that, you know? It just naturally became more upbeat. I got really into the ‘80s, and I never really liked the ‘80s much growing up to be honest. It was really recent. I started listening to, like, Hall and Oates again, and The Clash, Wang Chung, and a bunch of classic ‘80s music. With a lot of art, you don't really have that much control over what you like. Like, you have control of how you present it.

I think by that point so many people were also doing it, there was so much of the like heavily-produced electronic alternative music that I wanted to do something that is more like Daft Punk-y and kind of a bit more of the fun side of rock. I think more subconsciously it happened in sessions and we would reference Gorillaz, we would reference any idea that came to mind. Even other producers that I was working with, they sort of brought that out in me as well. And then I think “Paint California” was actually the first song. It was like a perfect marriage where I was just like, “Okay, this has the acoustic guitar, this has like distortion, but it's definitely an electronic track. It's dancy, it's catchy. this is a thing, you know what I mean?” “Paint California” was the first song that was completely done. The first song that the label, and everyone, knew was the single.

I think the concept also spoke to me in a way where I was like, okay, this could be a seed to like a larger thing. At that time I also had the intro of CHROMATOPIA with Big Data. It was like something that we started together on piano. He was playing the chords and I was playing the melodies on top. We made it more this synthy, modular sounding thing. It was cool. I wanted this world. I want to tap into psychedelic modular music. I love everything that sounds super out there and spacey and kind of like a kid playing with a machine. So it became more about that. And then later, I also realized I was actually a pianist by, like, trade or whatever. And I barely play piano on my records. So, maybe keys and synthesizers could be a thing on this album, as opposed to just electric guitar. I think that is the main element that sets it apart other than from the rhythm and the tempos that I chose to use a lot previously. Very cool, very quick.

What is the message that you want to get across as an artist?

It's dangerous to compare yourself. I used to when I first started NoMBe as a project, I used to tell people that I wanted to be the next Pharrell. I used to tell people like “Oh it's kind of like if Pharrell produced the Chili Peppers or MGMT mixed with this you know?” And I think I would just like people to understand that it's a journey that's gonna always change. I’d like to see people see NoMBE as a project the way I see it. I am creating whatever I feel like doing, it’s sometimes very all over the place, for better or for worse. I never, ever, ever, ever wanted to have a genre, or be known for genre, or known for a thing.

You know, even NoMBe itself was a name that I chose because it could kind of be anything. It could be a deep house DJ, it could be folksy, it could be African tribal music. That's what it is for me. I like the anonymity in that sense. I think over the years it kind of became its own thing and people start identifying more with me as a person than just the music. What I want people to take away is that the music is for them to be enjoyed. It’s how I share myself. It's deeply personal, but it is definitely there for people to enjoy. That's my whole goal and my whole purpose is to give people art that I think is meaningful. To brighten your day for a little bit, inspire them to make art. And then do it all over.

I went to my first CRSSD in the fall of 2017, and somewhere in the internet my review of the trip disappeared. I hate trying to re-write an article I’ve lost, so I just said goodbye to it and moved on. So now I’ve gone to the Spring version of this HousexTechno festival and I’m ready to share about my experiences!

CRSSD Fest - Spring 2018 - I’ll Finally Write a Review

CRSSDFest took place March 4 & 5, 2018 in San Diego, CA. It’s a two day festival that plays host to house and techno music at the Waterfront Park near the SD Airport. A small festival, it probably houses close to 15,000 attendees. This spring, the weather was pretty chilly but luckily it didn’t rain until Saturday night after the event ended. We were all prepped for the worst though!

Quite frankly CRSSD isn’t my favorite event. There’s a lot of great things to it, but I have some friends that have gone to it every year since it’s start and rave about having the best time ever. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time, but I don’t personally think it’s any sort of life-changing event.

Most of the artists are outside of my genre, and I think that’s the main reason I don’t love CRSSD.

There are at bunch of things I really like about CRSSD. I absolutely LOVE the hours. Noon - 11pm then noon - 10pm on Sunday. I much prefer partying in the daylight, so this is the perfect timing for me. There’s tons of after party options too, so you don’t have to end the night if you’re not ready, but for me, this helps me recharge for day two. There’s something so novel to me about an event that takes place during the daytime, even though I know there’s lots of festivals that have daytime hours. I’ve always loved Coachella because of the daytime music vibes, and I was able to get a taste of that at CRSSD.

I also really like having the festival on Saturday and Sunday. This lets me not take any days off of work which is awesome. When an event starts on a Friday I usually have to leave work early or take the day off to make it there for the full hours. The fact that CRSSD is in San Diego is also clutch. It’s close enough but far enough from home, taking about 2 hours to drive there.

One other feature I love about CRSSD is the proximity of the festival to local hotels, AirBnBs or other places to stay. I love walking from my hotel, taking 15 minutes through security and getting into the festival. Honestly, the hotels weren’t too expensive either. We had a 2 queen room for roughly $300 for two nights. The walk from hotel to CRSSD is an easier walk than from the parking at most Insomniac Events to the actual rave.

Saturday on my schedule of must-sees was Gryffin, which was…eh. Sorry but he played good songs but never transitioned right to the next one, and the I was totally like WTF when he brought out Sinead Harnett for “Love In Ruins” and she sang one verse / refrain. ?!?!?! I wanted more of that ish!

On another note, Sinead Harnett was absolutely the cutest and had such a great set. Those outdoor vibes with her set were exactly what I was craving.

Saturday I wore my friend’s sweatshirt from Forever 21 paired with a $16 wig from Forever 21 as well as my Black Milk tights. I wore knee high socks as an extra layer to keep me warm. They were black so you pretty much couldn’t even tell they were there. I also packed another long-sleeve North Face sweatshirt another layer under the Forever 21 sweatshirt once it got cold at night. I forgot my red lipstick, so I picked up a gloss for $1.99 at CVS -- it was pure GOLD. Didn’t have to reapply once.

The wig, for being so cheap, was actually pretty decent. Better quality than Party City even, which charges about $25 for that style wig. If you want to mess with wigs these $16 ones at Forever 21 might be a good place for you to start. I don’t see them online or I’d link you, but I found mine in store. Pro tip: wear a hat of some sort with the wig, it helps make it more real.

Sunday we arrived just in time for NoMBe which was my “must see” of the day. I was so happy with his set, the sun was out, the wind was blowing, I was living my day festival dream! He has a show coming up in LA and I might go check it out, his set was a lot of fun. Maybe at the show in LA he’ll play my favorite song “Eden” which he missed at CRSSD.

We bounced around a little then went to Jai Wolf. Literally where has he been, I feel like it’s been forever. I was not disappointed. Jai Wolf’s set is so full of good upbeat feels. I was really please with what will be the first of many times seeing him this year, as it looks like he’s on the festival/rave circuit for 2018.

Sunday I was less prepared for outfit wise, but I was able to pull something together to wear. I went with my black high waisted Levi jeans I just bought at the outlets. I added a fun print barrette and then my faux fur coat over the top. I did four braids into one long braid and sprayed my hair pink with this hair spray from Claire's. It was pretty nice actually, didn’t make it crunchy and came out easily in the shower. I also used these cheap body jewels from Clarie’s for between my chest cavity and under my bra line. They looked like they would peel as one piece to put on, but they all fell off so it was a meticulous eyelash glue situation in the bathroom before the event. On the bright side, I think they stuck much better that way than they ever would have if I didn’t use the glue.

My jacket is one I found on Poshmark for $30, and the ring is by Marina Fini. My boyfriend gave it to me for my birthday. :)

So CRSSDfest, it’s been fun. I’ve had a great time with my friends and it was a fun trip to San Diego. For all the HousexTechno fans out there, check it out sometime! The weather is warmer though in the fall edition if you’re gonna pick just one!
