G is for Giraffe The seventh animal in my animal alphabet series. The animal featured is a Reticulated Giraffe. This project is actually a collaboration with my sister-in-law and niece, who brought me the idea and selected the animals and the design theme. I have been very happy that the animals have been a hit so far for my family!I am working on other art in addition to this project, but you can look forward to the whole alphabet in the end! …. The monogram design, along with the giraffe drawing without monogram, is available over at my Redbubble (https://www.redbubble.com/people/ElaineEigel) and Society6 (https://society6.com/elaineeigel) stores on a wide variety of options from mugs to hats!

A Christmas Diamond (Garreth x F!MC) 🎄
Could it be? A fic? After two months?!
Anyways, shoutout to @cuffmeinblack for coming up with this idea for a collaborative Christmas Weasley Wednesday! 🖤 She paired a few of us writers with some incredible artists and I had the lovely honor of being paired with @bibbysbrews ❤️!! Her work will be at the end of this fic! Enjoy and Merry Crisis 🎄
A Christmas Diamond - Garreth Weasley x F!MC (1.2k words)
Summary: Garreth has a very important question to ask his girlfriend, and what better time to ask than during Christmas at the Weasley's.
Warnings: None! 100% pure fluff!
---------------------------------------------------
Garreth Weasley awoke Christmas morning to the smell of breakfast wafting through his bedroom. He turned over to find his girlfriend still in deep slumber next to him. Taking advantage of her sleeping state, he reached into his nightstand, pulling out a small, blue velvet ring box. He fiddled with the box in his hands, a nervous habit he had developed over the past few days.
Garreth planned to propose to his girlfriend tonight, after his family’s Christmas dinner. He loved her from the moment he first met her in their 5th year, and it was only a short time later that he knew he wanted to marry her. He tried to propose several times since then, but his nerves always got in the way, forcing him to delay his proposal until now - their first Christmas together since graduating Hogwarts. Although Garreth’s family had known about her for a while, this was the first time she was spending Christmas with them, having met them for the first time the night before. The timing couldn’t be more perfect. But, despite the deep love they shared for each other, Garreth was still fearful of rejection.
At Hogwarts, Garreth was known as a class clown, many describing him as a human embodiment of Peeves The Poltergeist - never taking things seriously, always cracking jokes, and causing havoc. Although Garreth thought of himself as a great boyfriend, he feared she would find him too immature to be a husband or a father. Of course, she had never given him any indication that she felt this way, but his intrusive thoughts had been getting the better of him lately.
Garreth tried to push these thoughts out of his head, turning over again to gaze at his sleeping beauty. He focused on the sound of her breathing, slow and soft, and now the only thought in his head was how much he loved her, and how he couldn’t wait to be her husband. Without thinking, Garreth brought a hand up to move some of her hair out of her face, the action causing her to stir slightly. She remained asleep, but the reaction made Garreth jump, quickly hiding the ring box in his pants pocket as he got himself dressed. Once he was dressed, he leaned over her, pressing soft kisses on her cheeks and forehead until she awoke with a giggle.
“Happy Christmas my love! Nice sweater!” She complimented as she sat up.
Garreth smiled proudly as he showed off his green wool sweater adorned with a G on the front. “Mum made it. It’s a tradition in the Weasley family for our mums to knit us monogrammed sweaters. We all have one! Now get dressed, I'm starving!”
----
The day went exactly as a typical Weasley Christmas would - after a late breakfast, the Weasleys spent time in the family room, sharing stories and playing games, until it was time for dinner, with gift exchanges immediately following. After gifts was when Garreth planned to propose, but as the amount of gifts under the Christmas tree decreased, Garreth’s anxiety levels increased. Feeling a knot in his stomach, he excused himself to the bathroom.
Garreth sank to the bathroom floor, tears flooding his eyes as he fiddled with the ring box once again. The confidence he had felt this morning was replaced with fear. Questions of “What if she says no?”, “Why am I so scared?”, and “Why is the room spinning?” flooded his mind as he worked hard to breathe normally. After what felt like hours, but in reality was only a few minutes, Garreth decided to delay the proposal once again, deciding that if she did say no, which was likely in his mind, he would rather it happen somewhere other than his home on Christmas day. Knowing he’d have to return to his family soon, lest they become concerned, Garreth stood up, placed the ring box back in his pocket and exited the bathroom.
Garreth discreetly wiped his eyes as he stood in the entryway of the family room, his eyes locking onto his lover. She looked over at him, sending him a beautiful smile. He faked a smile of his own, his heart aching that he didn’t have the courage to do it. Their eye contact was interrupted as Garreth’s mother approached her, handing her a gift box. Garreth’s girlfriend looked at his mother in surprise as she opened the box, revealing a hand-knitted red wool sweater adorned with her first initial.
“But I’m not a Weasley?” She questioned with a cracking voice. Even from a distance Garreth could see her eyes begin to pool with tears.
“You may not officially be a Weasley, but you’re still a part of this family!” Garreth’s mother replied with a smile.
Garreth’s heart fluttered as he watched the exchange. Seeing how much she adored his family and how willingly they had accepted her gave him the motivation he needed. He took a deep breath, mustering up some Gryffindor courage before walking over to her, his hand once again squeezing the ring box in his pocket.
“Sweetheart, would you mind following me outside?” Garreth prayed he didn’t sound as nervous as he felt as he held out his hand to her. She nodded allowing him to lead her outside into the Weasley garden. It was cold out, a blanket of snow coating the grass, with more snow currently falling. Garreth cast a quick spell to keep them warm as he stopped in front of a big tree. Garreth took a deep breath as he held her hand.
“My love, do you remember the day we met, that first day in potions class where I almost blew up our classroom? I’ve been in love with you ever since. You’ve always been by my side, supporting me, never once judging me or my antics. I already consider you part of my family, but…I'm hoping you’ll let me make it official.” Garreth’s body felt like it was moving on its own as he sank down to one knee. He tried not to focus on her audible gasp as the realization hit her. He reached a shaky hand into his pocket to retrieve the box, finally opening it to reveal a simple, but beautiful ring containing a single diamond with a gold band around it.
Tears streamed down her face as her eyes jumped from the ring to Garreth’s face, which was now sporting Garreth’s signature goofy smile, the one he always had whenever he was about to do or say something mischievous. The smile she had come to fall so deeply in love with.
“Darling, you have a beautiful name, but I think it would sound better with ‘Weasley’ at the end of it. Will you marry me?”
She couldn’t control her sobs as she sank down to her knees as well, pulling Garreth into a kiss, nearly making him drop the ring box in the snow.
“YES! Yes of course! I love you Garreth Weasley! I love you!” She couldn’t muster anymore words as she threw her arms around his neck, sobbing into his shoulder. Once the ring was on her finger and after a series of passionate kisses, Garreth led her back inside, ready to introduce the rest of the Weasley family to their newest member.
*Beautiful artwork by the beautiful artist @bibbysbrews 😘

BREAKING: CROWN PRINCESS' "DOUBLE SIDED" PENDANT IDENTIFIED - SHE'S BEEN WEARING IT FOR YEARS!
The mystery of Anya's pendant grows deeper!
Dedicated online sleuths and royal fans were able to identify the Crown Princess' necklace, and as it turns out, she's been wearing it for ages!
A photo from when HRH was still a teenager (see photo above) shows her clearly wearing the necklace and the heart pendant - but - the inscription only shows HRH's royal monogram. The photo was traced back to when HRH accompanied Queen Emilia during an official engagement where they unveiled the Crown Princess Anastasia Children's Park. The snap was taken when HRH was around 17-18 years old.
While quite a few remain unconvinced that both necklaces (and pendants) are one and the same, a royal fan who actually happens to be a jeweller attests that they are, indeed, the same set. Katharine Nould, owner and proprietor of Nould Jewellery, shares:
"I am 100% certain that that is the same chain and that's the same pendant. Same size, same colour, same characteristics - my guess is both sides are engraved. One side has the Crown Princess' royal monogram, while the other is engraved "A+G."
Tumblr media
(Above: Another photo of Anya wearing the necklace also went around social media. This time, the photo goes back to four years ago. However, it's HRH's royal monogram that's visible.)
When asked what joint initials on jewellery typically meant, Nould further explained:
"These are very common. We get orders for engraved initials a lot, and 99% of the time, they're meant to be romantic gifts. We ship out tons of those kinds of keepsakes especially during Heart's Day.
So if you're asking what 'A+G' could possibly mean, I'd wager good money and say it was a romantic gift given to Anya by someone whose name starts with a 'G.' But if you're asking me who 'G' might be, well, your guess is as good as mine!"
Tumblr media
(Above: A jeweller and royal watcher claims that both necklaces and pendants are one and the same - but the pendant is apparently engraved on both sides, one bearing HRH's royal monogram, and the other marked with "A+G")
If she's had it for ages (clearly, since she's apparently been wearing it since she was about 17 or 18), then who gave her that gift and who on earth is "G"? And more importantly, why is she wearing it now with the other side showing? Was it just a mistake (maybe she forgot to flip it and show the "right" side) or is she giving us hints?

A different sort of man

The witch scours through every book on magic she owns, and Thomas spends the time trying to see how different this Tommy’s life is from his.
The tattoo on his hand is different.
Instead of TGC, he sees an entwined E and T. Same monogram on the linens, tiles on the floors and carved on his own desk.
“You got it done on our first anniversary in 1921, we didn’t have Charlie yet.” The witch answers as she tossed another book into the stack and leafed through the next one. “Charlie was born in 1922, September to be exact. We eloped on June 1920 and a month ago we had a church wedding to cover up the Russian business and because our families ---mainly Polly and my aunts--- demanded we pretend to be good catholic people despite us being atheists.”
“How do you know about the Russians?” he tensed.
He didn’t confide in anyone save Polly, he couldn’t trust Grace even after three years. Too many lies, too many things ruined by her presence alone.
Even his family was distancing themselves from him because they can’t stand her.
“Because you tell me things, we are not just husband and wife, we are also business partners, have been since I told you Grace was the rat and told Campbell about Black Star Day.” She answered before muttering a curse, tossed the book and began searching through the couch cushions.
Lucky, lucky Thomas Shelby, this Tommy has a wife he can trust, with a good head on her shoulders and a spark of gypsy magic.
Something gnaws at him because he knows he cannot even begin to comprehend why he even sought Grace out in London in the first place.
“Should your stay last longer than it should, I am perfectly equipped to handle everything the other you has left pending. I act as your proxy when you aren’t available, if I do need you to make an appearance, I will brief you on it.” The witch runs a tight ship it seems.
“Mrs. Shelby, Mrs. Gray is here.” Mary, the same housekeeper he employes said with a little more warmth than her counterpart.
“Thank you, Mary. Please send her in, I am afraid it is rather urgent.” She thanked the housekeeper with a smile.
Grace was not an easy woman to please, demanded perfection, demanded that everyone knew their place and would never have even acknowledged Mary with a smile.
Where had this woman been all these years, he found himself asking.
“71 Watery Lane, with my daj, Ethel Smith.” She answered his unspoken question to his horror.
Tumblr media
“You aren’t you.” Polly cuts to the chase as they meet in his office.
“No. Believe it or not, when I went to sleep my wife’s name was Eva, my son Charlie was five months older and I would have never sought out Grace Burgess for what she did to us six years ago.” Tommy explained to Polly, she was closer to the original one, but there was a coldness to their interactions.
He couldn’t blame her, Eva had told him that Grace believed Pol to have incestuous feelings toward him and assumed it was jealousy and not disgust because she saw her for who she was.
“If only that version of you had your sensibility, boy.” His aunt said with pity aimed at the man whose body he occupied.
This Thomas had a similar tattoo on his hand, except for the monogram Eva has on tiles and linens, there is a G for Grace, a C for Charles and a T for Thomas.
This man’s feelings were not strong enough to keep it just their initials, he had to add the baby that turned a fuck up into his life.
“Yeah, if only.” He found himself agreeing as he tossed the photograph of Grace into a drawer.
This house was a dark and gaudy shrine to her and him, he had not been surprised to know she had not curtailed his less than fashionable décor. Worse, Grace Burgess had enabled him.
Grace’s tastes seemed to exist within the confinements of her wardrobe and even that was questionable.
If Eva were here she would have burned the garish purple wedding dress with unabashed gusto, along with every portrait he commissioned.
He missed her, not even three hours apart from her and he wants to return to her and his much, much happier life.
“What do we know about Eva Smith, granddaughter of Ethel Smith at 71 Watery Lane?” he doesn’t hear the quiet gasp until Polly’s dark eyes zero in at the woman spying on them.
Fuck.
Fuck him, fuck her, fuck them all.
If Grace was just as he remembered, she will be calling the All Saints’ Hospital to throw him in there before the sun sets today.
As if he didn’t already have the Russians to deal with too.

LOTRO intro game with Hathellang?
@sweetearthandnorthernsky also suggested this!
Hmm, an intro quest that takes place mostly or entirely in Bree could be an interesting challenge! (Under the cut because this got long lol.)
The player is on an evening walk in Bree-town and they turn into an alley only to happen across a young man half in and half out of a window. The two of you exchange alarmed words, but before anything can come of them you're interrupted by the sound of voices from around the corner. Both of you stop to listen in on this new conversation, which is between Bill Ferny and a mysterious southerner.
The conversation is cryptic but concerning, and you can just about pick up that they're planning on some kind of brigand attack on Bree. It ends with a remark along the lines of, "Remember, no loose ends," and then footsteps coming towards you. The thief points you towards a satchel on the ground, telling you there's a weapon inside and you should arm yourself.
(It's heavily implied that whatever weapon you find inside is whatever he just stole. "This 'silver dagger' seems an awful lot like a table knife to you. Something about the monogrammed handle..." "Eltrys Mugwort doesn't know what this oddly smooth rock is, or where it came from, or what the runes carved on it mean, but it's been in her family for generations." "This shield is clearly decorative. You hope it holds up until you find something a bit more durable." "Fancy club? Or pewter candlestick?")
You have a brief altercation with Bill Ferny and the southerner before they flee, shouting that it won't matter who knows after tonight. The two of you give chase, but lose them in the winding streets.
At this point there's a pause. Maybe the introductory instance ends and releases you into a tutorial version of Bree. There are a few NPCs around and sidequests, but not too many, as the intro takes place at night. Hathellang takes a moment to properly introduce himself and give some general background on Bill Ferny, and expresses concerns regarding some new brigand gangs that have moved into the area from the south. Hopefully this part won't be too talky, since most of what Hathellang actually knows about this goes like, "A (a former Blackwold that he hangs out with sometimes) said that B (a mutual friend current Blackwold) said that C (a Blackwold who's trying to integrate the Blackwolds with the strangers from the north) said that D (a Blackwold strongly opposed to integrating with the strangers from the north) (deceased) said that E (a Blackwold trying to integrate the Blackwolds with the strangers from the south) said that F (one of the strangers from the south trying to get the Blackwolds to join them) (deceased) said that G (Bill Ferny) said that H (nobody knows who this is) (deceased) said that I said something." (I is for Isengard.) I suppose he might be a little more involved in this situation, just to make him a little bit more of a reliable narrator. In any event, he doesn't like what he heard one bit and is absolutely set on finding out what's going on and most likely putting a stop to it.
He sends you on a number of mini missions around Bree to gather information. Places you would visit include Bill Ferny's house, Harry Goatleaf's post by the West Gate, and the Prancing Pony where the Southerner has a room. (Aragorn is here too. He's not directly involved in the quest, but he does have quest comments if you go snooping around in his room.) Hathellang has also ostensibly been following up some leads around town, and you eventually meet up with him by the Boar Fountain to compare notes.
At this point he would probably suggest you go talk to <class_trainer> in the nearby training hall to give you a brief introduction to combat, and then send you on one more mission, down to Beggar's Alley (in a not-so-sublte tribute to the obsolete quest that used to spawn a southern brigand there. And also spawn a southern brigand there randomly when you weren't even on the quest). Hathellang might come along as an ally on this quest, or maybe he'll instruct you to meet him there. Beggar's Alley is crawling with southern brigands, and from talking to the people who actually live there and stealing plans from the brigands you realize that they're planning a huge assault on Bree tonight, hoping to take over, or, failing that, to plunder the bank and auction hall.
Hathellang tells you to run to the town jail, where the guard barracks are, and tell Second-watcher Heathstraw what you just saw. "I'd go myself, but, well, never you mind why not. Oh, and you'd best not let him see you carrying that <class_weapon>. Here, you can use this one if you need to." Mechanic unlocked: quest rewards. (I think it would be really funny if Heathstraw had some extra dialogue if the player ignores Hathellang's advice and keeps the stolen item equipped. Something small, like a, "Now where did you come by that? Never mind, there are more pressing matters to attend to." But it would be funny to have it acknowledged.)
You run to the jail and talk to Heathstraw and he gathers what members of the town guard are awake and ready to fight and follows you back to Beggar's Alley, where Hathellang and some of the townspeople are already having a standoff with a number of the brigands, headed up by that southerner from before. They've stuck quite a large group of them in here through a hole they cut in the hedge, depending on less guard activity in this area to stay under the radar. At the arrival of the guards a full on fight breaks out and you face off against the southerner a la the end of the Before the Shadow intro. Once you've got his health low enough, he flees, heading north through the Oldstone Gate, and you pursue. But as you crest the top of the Oldstone Ruins you're just in time to see him fall, with a cloaked figure standing over him holding a sword. You can approach the figure and speak to him, but he will only say that it sounds as if the town guard has the matter well in hand, and when Hathellang and Heathstraw approach he runs away into the shadows.
Heathstraw assures you that the brigands are just about routed, mostly running back the way they came, and bemoans the fact that you never did find any evidence to tie Bill Ferny to the matter. He believes that he was involved, of course, the whole town knows he's up to no good, but he can't arrest a man based on the whole town knowing he's up to no good. When you ask about the cloaked figure he says it sounds like a Ranger. He didn't know any were in town just now, but they come and go as they please. If you want to know more, he heard there's one put up at the inn in Combe. Then you're spat out into the open world and are given a quest to go speak to Toradan, which will tie you in to the Human intro.
As an NPC Hathellang would probably not leave Bree. You would be able to find him hanging around the Boar Fountain and he might have a handful of quests for you. He also might be involved in the Bree skirms or the In Their Absence questline, but wouldn't travel away from the wider Bree area very much if at all.

A ring made of hair, according to legend, owned by Natalia Goncharova and presented by her to her fiancé - A.S. Pushkin. Russia, the first third of the XIX century. On the ring there is an insert (or lock) made of gold (0.7×1.1 cm) with an engraved monogram "NG". It is preserved in a ladies' velvet handbag stuffed with satin embroidered with metal beads; there is also a piece of sermot and a cut of posum, attached is a portrait of N.N. Goncharova (engraving of the XIX century). Everything is enclosed in a Karelian birch box.
A ring, according to legend, belonged to Natalia Nikolaevna Goncharova (future Pushkina), woven by her own hair for a gift to her fiancé, a great Russian poet. Monogram "N. G." ("Natalia Goncharova") corresponds to her maiden name, which she was called before the wedding. Probably, the ring was handed over in the spring of 1830 in Moscow, m.b. after April 6, when Pushkin received consent to the marriage.
In Pushkin's time, hair jewelry was in great fashion: this weather came from France and quickly spread. The most frequent was the gift of such a ring by a girl to her betrothed, which was reflected in French novels of the Romantic era. Such rings could also be of a memorial nature. K.N.'s request is known. Batyushkova, addressed to a friend: "Do you want me to make a very nice gift? Order me a ring of your hair, all three, with the hair of your late sister, you will lend me very much with it." Fragile, subject to decay, often stored secretly (since the material of manufacture added special intimacy to the gift), they have hardly survived to the present day, except for some exhibits, whose memorial value served as a certificate of protection for them.

I think we all know by now that Candace is the real main character of Phineas and Ferb. While on first glance, our title characters are the real protagonists, and thus, Candace who desires their downfall is an antagonistic force to them. And its true, Candace CAN BE antagonistic towards them but protagonist and antagonist are really defined in terms of a stories framing, and as established she's more of the protagonist which would make Phineas and Ferb the antagonists. But Phineas and Ferb never really go against Candace. In their eyes, Candace isn't an antagonist, she's their cool big sister, who's sometimes a little weird, but always loves them, and so very rarely is anything they do is meant to antagonize her.
Really breaking PnF characters into protagonists and antagonists isn't really helpful when looking at the show. PnF has a wide variety of characters with their own wants and needs, these needs can conflict with each other, but we are never truly lead to root for one character over another (see Finding Mary McGuffin, or Vanessasary Roughness). Sure, we might not want Doof to succeed in taking over the tri-state area, or to see the boys get in trouble. But we also don't really want Candace's mom to think she's crazy, and we don't really want Doof to be arrested either. Major Monogram is a bit of an asshole, despite being the "Big Good". Perry costs Doof a fortune in repair bills. Buford is a bully whose secretly rather soft. I think the fact that both Vanessa and Candace want to "Bust someone", and this desire is often treated with equal amounts of respect. But Candace wants to bust her fun loving little brothers, and Vanessa wants to stop her evil father says a lot. If Vanessa's a good guy, then so is Candace, and if Vanessa's a bad guy for wanting to stop her dad, then does that make Perry bad too?
Candace and Doof, the surface level antagonists, are merely the ones who are screwed over by "Mysterious Force". Candace may see herself and her brothers as antagonists towards each other, but ultimately, it's her low self-esteem and a universe that treats her unfairly that are her true antagonist. Doof may see himself and Perry as enemies, but ultimately Doof's REAL antagonist is his own lack of planning and feeling obligated to seek revenge for his tragic backstories.
It's not that there are never antagonists. Buford often acted as an antagonist in earlier episodes. Thaddeus, Thor and Mandy in that one episode. And Doof is very much a antagonist to Perry most of the time, and aside from Doof, we're given to real reason to root for other evil scientists such as Poofenplotz who does act as a more one sided villain. Brigitte the fireside girl was an antagonist to Buford without being evil that one episode.
There are plenty of antagonists in MML and H&G. In Milo we have the pistachions, Elliot, and often the time bureau (even if the latter aren't necessarily evil). And H&G has its large rouges gallery. But the closest PnF has is Doof, whose solidly a protagonist by the time MML begins.
In PnF while there is plenty of interpersonal conflict, much of it is two sided where neither party is necessarily evil, no matter how much Doof tries to be. Though his schemes do need to be stopped victory isn't necessarily what he really wants/needs. While Candace and Doof are often "punished", it is often genuinely unfairly, not necessarily karmic justice. We the audience don't necessarily feel satisfied that they got what was coming to them. (Not to say this is always the case, these two do bring most of it on themselves). A lot of the conflict is ultimately situational, rather than personal.
Though it makes sense that someone might assume Doof and Candace are the antagonists. After all if your just glancing at it, obviously the evil scientist is an antagonist. And Candace is kind of a jerk towards her younger brothers who don't deserve any of it. (Well, they mean well at least, that doesn't mean they never cause problems). But the truth of the matter is that even when characters are in opposition to each other its often a temporary thing. Doof and Perry often team up, as do Candace and the boys, Buford and Baljeet, and so on. Labeling a character an antagonist is done on a episode by episode basis, and is dependent on who your deciding to frame as a protagonist, which is often rather arbitrary.
Lots of shows (slice of life) do have casts who are sometimes in opposition to each other, and sometimes not. But I bring this up because Phineas and Ferb feels like it should have clear cut protagonists (our title characters, the super spy) and antagonists (bratty older sister stopping the fun, evil scientist, bully) but instead of demonizing one side or another, a lot of it is just. Value neutral. The two sides work together almost as often as they are "against" each other. Perry needs/enjoys fighting against Doof as much as Doof. Doof being good isn't even necessarily shown as changing Perry and Doof's relationship, or even necessarily as the "right" thing. (Just the frequency with which they beat each other up). Considering any of our main cast to be obstacles to each other misses the point of like every single special.
