Drunken Truths
After having some wine and enjoying themselves, Mobius reveals how he truly feels about Loki. Loki does not take the news well.
Had it been a day? Three? Seven? Loki had not gotten used to how time worked in the Time Variance Authority. He had yet to sleep, so it could have been only a few hours for all he knew. It didn’t matter anyway. He could no longer return to a home that had been destroyed. A world he helped to destroy.
All he could do was work on the ridiculous case of finding his own variant until he knew enough to take over the Agency. Even though this version of himself could not have been as skilled or intelligent as Loki, it was proving to be harder than he expected. It might have been a variant, but it was still a Loki. There had to be something.
Mobius sat across the table from Loki. The files became a jumbled mess between them as they dismissed anything irrelevant. Some agents passed by them, but they were all busy in their own worlds. The only thing that mattered around the table was Loki and Mobius. They occasionally made small talk, but they were both focused on their own documents. Someone had to find something.
Loki didn’t realise he was tired until his eyes couldn’t stay open any longer. The next thing he knew, his head was on the desk and he was back in Asgard. It only lasted a moment, but he was there, drinking with Thor while they were still on speaking terms.
He was awoken by a nudge.
“How about we get you somewhere more comfortable to rest,” Mobius said softly. “Come on. We’ll go to my place.”
Loki scrunched his nose and sat up. “You have a place? Here I was thinking your entire life was a less interesting version of robots that only did what they were told by the giant lizards.” Loki smirked up at Mobius. They caught each other’s eyes.
“Very funny. Now move unless you want to stay here.”
Mobius led Loki through the authority to a door that seemed no different to any other. They hadn’t even left the building. It was nothing but the same brown and yellow architecture. No wonder the agents were the dullest people Loki had ever experienced.
“Do you ever get to see the sun here?” Loki asked as they reached a door.
“Not really. But don’t worry. We get plenty of sunshine when getting variants.”
That was great news for all the agents who actually went to the missions. Mobius grabbed his key from his pocket and unlocked the door. He stepped aside, allowing Loki to walk in first.
Loki didn’t know what he was expecting, but it was not what he saw. It was the same monochromatic scheme and files of paper he had been seeing anywhere else. There was no sign that Mobius was living there apart from a few cans of that ridiculous drink he always had and a few more jet ski magazines. Loki walked through, hoping to find a glimpse of comfort.
“It might not be the lush palace you’re used to-“ Mobius was saying.
“Oh, no. Gosh no. It is truly horrendous,” Loki started before remembering who he was talking to. He smiled back at Mobius. “But I suppose it will be suitable. For the while.” Mobius chuckled and made his way into the den that was the kitchen.
“Thank you for being so considerate. Here.” He returned with two glasses of red wine, offering one to Loki. Loki smiled and took the glass, sipping it. Even the wine was disgusting. Still, it was better than nothing.
Half of the bottle must have disappeared between the two of them, washing away any distaste they had with each other. Eventually, they stumbled their way through the living room and to the bedroom that was barely large enough for the perfectly made king-sized bed. Mobius fell back onto the bed and Loki straddled him.
Loki's lips crashed onto Mobius, hungry for the connection. He curled his fingers under Mobius’ collar, pulling him closer. Mobius’ earthy scent grew stronger. Loki felt Mobius’ hands move to his lower back, securing him. Loki was enjoying it. He could feel that Mobius was really enjoying it.
Every moment they moved brought a small release to Loki. He didn’t have to think about what he was doing. There was no master plan. It seemed like it was the first time in his life that he could just be. What was it about the strange, tender man that did this to Loki?
It could have been the wine, the stress, or the fact that it had been - Loki didn’t even know how long – since he had been held that way, but Loki wanted more. He tore away Mobius’ jacket and moved his fingers down to his pants.
Mobius gently kissed Loki’s neck and moaned, “I love you.”
Loki immediately stopped. He sat up more and stared into Mobius’ pale blue eyes. What trick was this man doing? Mobius just stared back with a look unfamiliar to Loki. It was… warm, pure, maybe even loving. That look slowly turned into one of concern. Mobius coughed and sat up more.
“Sorry. That was too soon. Forget I said anything,” Mobius mumbled. He sat up to kiss Loki’s lips, but was pushed back down.
Loki couldn’t forget that. It was exactly what he needed to hear. It felt wrong. It was wrong. Loki shuffled off of Mobius. He put on his best chirpy voice.
“Well, that was a nice distraction, but I really need to get back to it. We won’t be finding a Loki variant in this dump. Take care of yourself and I’ll see you there.”
He managed to make it out of the room before he heard Mobius calling out for him to wait.
Loki fled to the archives. It must have been late, or early, as there were no one else around. Perfect. He didn’t even know what he was looking for, but Loki searched up and down the aisles.
I love you
Loki could count on one hand the amount of people who told that to him, and nearly half of them were his so-called family. He took deep breaths, reading the same file name for the tenth time. He thought Mobius was a decent person, but he had been wrong many times before. What would he even get from saying that Loki? Did he think it would magically make Loki more compliant? Well, he clearly didn’t know Loki as well as he as he thought.
There was always the possibility that he meant it. That somehow in his naïve stupid head, he thought what he was feeling was love. It was like a kicked dog who kept returning to his master. The poor little thing didn’t know what he was getting himself into.
The squeaks from the end of the aisle alarmed Loki that he was no longer alone. Loki didn’t look up from the file.
“Now that you’ve gotten that out of your system, I would love it if you actually did something to help me,” Loki muttered.
The footsteps got louder until it stopped just when Loki could smell him. Mobius exhaled. He used that ridiculous soft voice he often used when he was talking to Loki – as if he was talking to a child.
“Look. I shouldn’t have said that. I mean, I don’t regret what I said, but it was too soon and not in the right way. I suppose I just got a little too excited. I mean, look at you, can you really blame me?”
Loki turned and started walking down the aisle, but still felt Mobius following him. It truly was pathetic.
“I get it. It was the heat of the moment. You would have the same thing to anyone who snaked their way into your chambers.”
“No. It’s not that. Loki, Look at me.” The file was snatched away from his hands. Loki sighed and looked up at the moustache. It was strange seeing it now that he knew what it felt like against his skin.
Mobius pressed his fingers against Loki’s chin, forcing him to look up until he could see the gentle blue eyes staring back at him. “I really do care about you. I thought I knew everything about you, but you are so much more than I expected. After all the crap that you went through, you’re still trying to be a better person. You’re talented, you’re intelligent, you’re just,” Mobius hesitated for a moment, “you’re just incredible.”
For the first time in his life, Loki didn’t know what to say. There was something different about how Mobius spoke. He honestly believed what he was saying. That just made everything worse.
“I get it. I know everything about me, but you know practically nothing about me. Well, my name is Mobius. My favourite colour is yellow, I like jet skis and I think you’re really cute.” Loki forced back a smile. “Just come back to bed.” Mobius moved his hand down to Loki’s, but before he reached it, Loki fought back.
He grabbed Mobius hand and twisted it so the agent was forced to turn around. He stepped closer behind the blonde, Loki’s lips only inches from Mobius’ ear.
“I am a god,” Loki grunted. “You are nothing but a mindless drone. Do you really think you can trick me with this nonsense? I can see through deceits much greater than yours.”
“What deceit? Loki, this is ridiculous. Let go of me.” There it was. The same warmth and concern he always had in his voice. Loki shouted in anger as he threw Mobius onto the floor. Mobius groaned and tried to get up, but was stopped by Loki pressing his foot onto Mobius’ chest, forcing him back down.
“Stop lying to me,” he yelled. Mobius just stared back as Loki took deep breaths. “You know nothing about me. You can’t love me. I know I’m greater than all the cretins you have put up with, but do not mistake that worship as love, you… you idiot.”
Mobius still didn’t fight back, but he kept his eyes steady on Loki.
“Are you done?”
Loki removed his foot from the agent. Mobius groaned while getting up. “You’re right. We really need to get back to work.” He started to walk down the aisle.
“Mobius,” Loki called out. The agent turned back to face him. As Loki spoke, he heard his voice break in a desperate attempt to be believed. “I’m just doing this to protect you. You know that, right?”
Mobius chuckled and shook his head before pushing his hands into his pocket.
“I really appreciate it, Loki, but I think we both know I’m not the one who needs protecting.” With that, he left, leaving Loki among the shelves. Alone.

Hello There! If it wouldn't be too late to ask for a fic (please feel free to ignore if so), may I please possibly request #61 and #69 for Lokius? I would truly appreciate it!
Anon, I am SO SORRY that it took me too long to answer you. I wanted to watch the last episode before jumping into ideas for the prompt you gave me and honestly, I'm glad that I did. It was nice to write again for these two and I feel like I know them a little bit more now - however, excuse me if any of them sound a little bit out of character and please warn me if I do so. I'm always trying to improve haha Anyway! You asked for: love confessions + flirting under fire. I didn't knew what flirting under fire was - at least, not with a NAME to it and it's one of my favourite tropes. It reminded me of that Pirates of the Caribbean scene with William and Elizabeth and it was such a nice memory. I took the liberty of creating some back story for Mobius and throwing some prophecies for the end of the show. Oh, btw, I am always taking requests (not only for Lokius, Winterbaron or Marvel pairings), so feel free to message me whatever idea you have! <3 I hope you like it! As usual, the story is available under "read more" and on ao3 as well! Reblogs and comments are more than welcome! <3 Warnings: Spoilers for episode 3.
"This place is going to explode in a few minutes, come on," Sylvie's voice was urgent as the trio made their way through the halls of the TVA in a hurry. Loki's left arm rested on Mobius' shoulders as the god walked with some difficulty, practically being dragged by the ex-agent through the halls to the exit of the institution, where they would use a temp-pad to escape.
Los Angeles, California, 1996.
The location and time had been handpicked by Loki after stealing one of the TVA files contained in a specific folder. The folder about the recruitment of Mobius M. Mobius. As far as he had read, Mobius used to work in a local marina, organizing the rental of spaces and, mainly, Jet Skis. The irony of it made him laugh - even though it was a powerful group, the TVA had not been able to erase some of the most intrinsic things about Mobius the mortal, the Midgardian: his passion for his work and for water sports, even if the ex-agent did not know where it came from. Loki allowed himself a few sentimental moments while reading the files, before Sylvie took them from his hands and offered, "so, are we going to save your Prince Charming or not?"
The Asgardian could not even consider the possibility of not accepting that offer.
It didn't take long before they were inside the TVA again.Sylvie had been busy fighting the plan, while Loki had searched the rooms for Mobius. It was not an easy reunion - the agent still held grudges over Loki's supposed betrayal of his trust, and even though he had explanations, the Asgardian knew he deserved some of that treatment. "I promise it will all make sense later but please come with me," he begged - and to the surprise of both Mobius and Loki, the mortal followed him without question.
And there the three of them were, running away from the remaining TVA guards, following the plan of the one who, until recently, was the main reason for the union between god and mortal, variant and variant.
They were a few feet from the temp-pad when one of the guards' bullets hit Loki's other shoulder - not enough to endanger the other's life, but enough to slow his steps, which were not remotely as fast as they needed them to be. "You two, run to the temp-pad, I'll slow them down. Don't leave without me!" uttered Sylvie to both of them, and nodding, Mobius dragged Loki to the temp-pad on a rock, resting the brunette there as he fiddled with the settings.
"Mobius...," mumbled Loki. They hadn't had time to talk, and even though he didn't want to have that conversation there, in imminent danger of one of the two of them getting hit and to the sounds of Sylvie's screams in the background, he needed to talk. Now. “Not now, Loki”, said Mobius, without looking at the others' faces. Underneath the frown, Loki knew he was scared - the whole situation was a little scary for himself and, in a way, he was living it twice - as Loki and as Sylvie. He could feel her fear and, in some ways, he knew that he was experiencing the same fear. The thought that coming back to the main timeline could end his or hers existence had crossed their minds a few times and they both had talked about that - she was willing to sacrifice herself after her job was done. He wasn’t, but he would do that to keep her alive as long as she promised that she would look after Mobius and try to find Thor. Sylvie had promised she would do her best but, in the end, none of them knew what could happen when they cross the timelines. The irony of it all would make him laugh if it were an Asgardian party tale and not something he was actually experiencing - something that could cause him a real loss in his life.
The agent, for his part, was... being liberated. What was he so terrified of? That didn’t made sense but he could feel the fear both in the air and in his eyes. "Mobius, pay attention to me. Don't change the date on the temp-pad. I... looked at your files. We'll get you back to your life before all this, before... the TVA declared you a variant and imprisoned you here," Loki explained, finally drawing Mobius' attention to himself, who was staring at him visibly confused and alarmed by the offer being made. As if he was insulted by what Loki had said. "Loki, what makes you think I would ever want to go back to my previous life? I've seen too much, I'm not the same person as before. The 90's may have been a few years ago but I don't know how to be who I used to be," Mobius was direct - he was looking at Loki intently, hoping that his eyes would make sure of how serious he was being about this.
He hoped, too, that Loki could tell between the lines of what he was saying that he didn't want to be separated from him again. And a significant part of the agent hoped that the feeling was reciprocated by the other man in front of him. The black-haired one, on the other hand, was watching Mobius with visible confusion, not understanding how he could deny himself the possibility of coming back to the life that was stolen from him. However, soon he could understand why and a little smile appeared on his lips.
Allowing himself one last impulsive act, Loki leaned his body on the rock at his back and brought both hands to Mobius' face, sealing their lips in a delicate, yet urgent kiss - a kiss that reflected the peculiar mixture that was the impulsiveness of his act in the midst of how much he had wanted to do it for so long, even though a significant part of that time had been spent denying himself that desire. He felt the reciprocation on Mobius' part - as hesitant and as intense as his own, in a contradiction that completed itself. If it weren't for the occasion and the moment they were living, Loki would have appreciated how "a contradiction that completed itself" seemed to explain the whole trajectory of the two of them up to that point.
Something inside him, however, told him that that would not be the last time he would have Mobius' lips against his own.
"Hey, could you two hurry up there?" shouted Sylvie, approaching the two of them with urgency, interrupting their moment without any hesitation. Loki held on to Mobius, seeking support, and held on to Sylvie, trying to keep her close to him while she manipulated the temp-pad.
Whatever happened when the three of them returned to the main timeline would be up to fate - as long as he was with those who had become his true north, he would be fine.

TV | Loki (104)
104: THE NEXUS EVENT
D: KATE HERRON. W: ERIC MARTIN. Original Air Date: 30 June 2021.
Non-spoiler-free recap and review of the fourth episode of LOKI, which airs every Wednesday on Disney+.
Tumblr media
RECAP
As Loki and Sylvie watch the world around them slowly but surely fall into complete destruction and collapse, the TVA is scrambling to locate the two and recapture them. Ravonna Renslayer especially is desperate to have the two variants located, being put under pressure by the Time Keepers. It is also revealed that is was Renslayer herself who was the one to pluck Sylvie from the time line and declare her a variant -- when Sylvie was merely a child, still on Asgard. It is also from Renslayer that Sylvie subsequently escapes and, as she reveals to Loki, has been on the run and in hiding ever since, growing up in apocalypses which were the only place her mere presence did not cause any nexus events.
Sharing a heartfelt moment as Sylvie recounts her life, she and Loki create enough chaos to spark a nexus event even within an ongoing apocalypse, allowing the TVA to locate and recapture them. Once captured, they are separated, with Renslayer forbidding anyone to interrogate Sylvie, while Mobius has Loki thrown in a time-loop -- where he is repeatedly threatened and beaten by LADY SIF (JAIMIE ALEXANDER) in a memory from Loki's earlier life on Asgard, where he as a joke cut off Sif's hair. After finally admitting that he played jokes out of loneliness and a desperate need for attention, Mobius retrieves Loki from the time-loop and takes him back to one of the TVA's interrogation rooms.
Loki tries to make Mobius understand that everything about the TVA is a lie -- as Sylvie has told him -- but Mobius does not trust him. He baits him into revealing what caused the nexus event on Lamentis-1 by telling him Sylvie has been disintegrated, and gets Loki to admit that he cares for her. Accusing him of such narcissism that he fell in love with himself, Mobius closes the case and has Loki returned to the time-loop.
Despite his distrust in Loki, Mobius questions Renslayer about what had happened to C-20 and her intentions behind not letting him talk to Sylvie, and eventually steals her TemPad to investigate the matter further. He learns that C-20 confirmed what Loki had tried to tell him: everyone at the TVA is a Variant, plucked from the timeline and brainwashed to serve the Time Keepers. Returning to Loki's time-loop he admits that Loki was right and wants to help him, but they are quickly found out by Renslayer, and she disintegrates Mobius.
Meanwhile, Hunter B-15, despite Renslayer's orders, went to see Sylvie and took her back to the apocalypse they had found her in. Questioning her about her powers, B-15 reveals that she, too, had been having memories of another life since Sylvie had controlled her. Sylvie shows her the memories again, effectively gaining B-15 as an ally.
Following the disintegration of Mobius, Renslayer takes Loki and Sylvie to see the Time Keepers who wish to witness their destruction. However, once in their chambers, Loki and Sylvie are freed from their constraints by B-15 and a fight between them and the TVA ensue. Gaining the advantage, Loki and Sylvie eventually find themselves free of any enemies, and Sylvie attacks one of the Time Keepers with her sword. The Time Keeper is beheaded and, as the head falls to their feet, Loki and Sylvie realise that these three beings are merely robotic avatars and not the real Time Keepers.
Without any way to destroy the Time Keepers and the TVA, Sylvie is lost. Loki, reminiscent of their moment on Lamentis-1 and Mobius' accusation of romantic feelings between the two, tries to communicate to Sylvie whatever it is he is feeling, but before he can make her understand, he is disintegrated by Renslayer who turns out to be alive, still.
The mid-credit scene reveals that Loki did, in fact, not die, but finds himself in another realm where he is greeted by various other incarnations of himself. Prominently among them: CLASSIC LOKI (RICHARD E. GRANT), KID LOKI (JACK VEAL), and BOASTFUL LOKI (DEOBIA OPAREI).
FAVOURITE MOMENTS
Loki is back in Mobius' presence and we are immediately back to bantering like an old married couple and I very much appreciated that. These two have such a lovely dynamic, I adore it. Never thought I would say that, but I really do. I love Owen Wilson in this role very much and he and Tom have such great chemistry.
I also really liked Hunter B-15 taking Sylvie back to the apocalypse they had found her in, and asks her about C-20 and the memories the both of them have lived while Sylvie controlled them. Her chocked back sob and then the "I looked happy" was just so nicely done. I was very happy to see that B-15 was immediately ready to team up with Sylvie and drop the TVA at a moment's notice.
The same goes for Mobius. I loved that, despite Loki's betrayal and the fact that he was so set in not wanting to trust him again, Mobius still couldn't shake the feeling that Loki's comment was more than just a quip and went to investigate. He is not just a mindless follower of orders and I love that very much about him.
FAVOURITE CHARACTER(S)
My main man Loki, always and forever. I adore this version of Loki so much. He is so much fun! I love that we get this actually, truly mischievous Loki, this chaotic mess. He isn't brooding and full of evil plans. No! He wants shenanigans and fun. I love it. And I love that we get to see more of his vulnerable side too.
But also, Mobius! My man! He's back!!! If this man doesn't get to ride a jet ski at least once I will be very upset. I will also be very upset if he is actually gone now. (Cannot believe I am saying this about an Owen Wilson character. This is new. Good on you, Owen, good on you.)
QUESTIONS, CURIOSITIES
Less a question and more a demand: if the mid-credit scene means Loki exists somewhere after being disintegrated, Mobius better be alive somewhere. I want that lad back, whole and in one piece. You hear me, Marvel? Otherwise you might have yourself another CoulsonLives on your hand, you just watch.
I've already seen a bunch of reactions to the whole Loki/Sylvie thing and most either go with happily shipping along, or being very against this concept out of some sort of incestuous concerns. And I feel like, am I the only one who watched that scene as neither romantic nor incestuous as such, but more as Loki being very confused?
Apart from Frigga, and possibly, to some degree and especially earlier in life, the brotherly love of Thor, I don't think Loki has ever felt love. And for the first time there is someone who not just understands him completely, but also accepts him exactly as he is. Especially following their conversation about love in 103, I think what was between Sylvie and Loki on Lamentis-1 that caused the nexus event, and makes Mobius accuse Loki of being in love with her, is not a romantic sense of love, but in a way a certain self-acceptance?
I'm sure Loki has some kinds of feelings but he doesn't know what they are or how to categorise them. And he is very confused about liking Sylvie and caring that she is alright. But I don't think he would have understood it as romantic love without Mobius' accusation of it. I don't think it's narcissism either. What I saw, was a glimmer of Loki realising that he can love himself, he can accept himself. If Sylvie, who is him, understands and accepts him, then so can he. But yeah, I'm curious to see where they're gonna go with this, certainly.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Generally, this episode was absolutely amazing. Every week I keep finding myself becoming the shocked Pikachu meme while watching the episode, but this week especially. I can't wait to see what next week brings, and I hope very much that we find out Mobius is, in fact, still alive somewhere.
