[2021 Mortal Kombat Movie AU]

I think Shang Tsung granted Bi-Han his immortality after he killed Hanzo & the Shirai Ryu, so this time Bi-Han adds one more thing to their agreement: his brother will also become immortal. (Kuai Liang is probably the only thing he feels something for)

He wants Kuai to fight beside him, but Kuai can't bear to see what his brother has become in action so Bi-Han convinces Shang Tsung to let him go and live his life, even if he's not happy about it. Bi-Han is capable and vicious enough to do whatever the sorcerer asks of him on his own.

So Kuai spends centuries in different countries, doing different jobs, eventually settling down somewhere in America. Maybe he owns a farm, lol. Living in a remote location would help him go unnoticed on how he's not aging. All the while, Bi-Han keeps an eye on him from afar, getting rid of people who get too close to blowing Kuai's cover, not that he knows about it.

Anyway, after Cole escapes Bi-Han for the first time, Shang Tsung decides to play dirty and has Bi-Han bring Kuai Liang into the fold. He glamors a kombatant mark onto Kuai and has him run into Sonya while "escaping" Bi-Han. He joins her, Cole and Kano from there on. He strikes up a friendship with Sonya, but it's Cole he really hits it off with. Kuai was already doubting his mission but it's getting worse every moment.

They do the whole arcana thing, and the defenders are kind of put off when he "unlocks" his ice powers, but he's nothing like the creeping menace Bi-Han is so they write it off.

Kuai does his best to support Cole as he tries and fails to unlock his. Having lived so long without regular human contact, Kuai can come off as a bit intense, but he makes up for it with how earnest and genuine he is. (Cole might be starting to doubt his sexuality, a little.)

Kano still betrays the team but he runs into Kuai when he's about to destroy the relic that keeps up the force field. Kuai has a change of heart and attempts to stop Kano, but they destroy the relic anyways during their fight. Kano gives Kuai "a chance", to keep what happened to himself as long as he won't get in Kano's way again. Afraid of what the sorcerer will do, Kuai goes with Kano. He stands by Bi-Han's side before the defenders, to the tune of betrayed shouts. Sonya seems angriest while Cole is just disappointed.

The next time he's seen again is in the final scene with Bi-Han. Allison and Emily are still frozen, but the reason they aren't completely encased in a block of ice like Bi-Han might've done by himself is Kuai's coaxing. They can still be saved by design.

Hanzo's appearance was a bit funny imo, so I'd turn that into just him "possessing" Cole to a degree, or enhancing his abilities/guiding him like Sento does for Kenshi. Even with all that, Bi-Han gets Cole into a "say your last words" position. So Cole does a bit of a BotR speech that finally gives Kuai the push he needs and he turns on Bi-Han. He freezes Bi-Han solid but has to keep at it lest Bi-Han break free. He tells Cole to tend to his family, and that he'll deal with Bi-Han.

The defenders arrive, thaw Allison and Emily and get out of there, reluctantly leaving Kuai behind. The rest goes as normal.

After Shang Tsung is defeated, Bi-Han and Kuai go missing. The good ending is the brothers' lifespans becoming normal in the absence of Shang Tsung (if they were 30 they still have like 40 years to live), and Kuai taking steps to rehabilitate Bi-Han. Maybe his path crosses with Cole again, someday.

The sad ending is the brothers perishing immediately without Shang Tsung's magic, lol

(I wanted to make Kuai the Kitana to Cole's Lui Kang but the plot had a mind of its own, lol)

Yes anon, I did. It was supposed to be a three-part one-shot.

Part 1 was the ancient China era.

Part 2 was supposed to take place in one of the Word Wars.

Part 3 would be modern day.

It was supposed to be in Shang Tsung's POV and touches upon him waiting hundreds if not thousands of years for Kryp to be reincarnated each time because in part 1 and 2, Kryp had died all too soon in battles and once he sees Kryp at Raiden's table, some inner thoughts happen or something and then it ends.

Pretty much it was just me gonna be angsty and writing about a mortal who won't die and his love who keeps dying.

Ok listen. This is a fun au idea.

And no this isn't about mk1 2023 shang tsung! Picture any other shang tsung. Plz. Even. Chin hans shang tsung from the mk 2021 movie for all i care. (Tho i pictured tagawa's shang but thats just me)

But anyways.

Shang tsung as a snake man

His eyes are of a gold and green. The pupils almost look like they have galaxies in them,secrets of the unknown. Hidden knowledge of the universe and the magics of the veil and void. Flashed gold when angered and threatened. And in darkness.

And scales of viridian dark greens fading into an iridescent metallic lime green. Golden flecks throughout the scales.

Claws are black painted with golden tips.

Hair is a deep black ink. The deepest black and long tresses neatly kempt. Adorned with the finest hair ornaments. Some were "trophies" of the souls he took and the warriors he devoured.

His fangs while intimidating,only produced venom when nessicary. Tounge is long, serpentine,when he speaks his s's hiss and his R's growl. You can feel the primal sounds.

His upper half was of a handsome man. In his mid to late 40s. That of far eastern decent. Nose distinctly hooked and that of serpentine. Smile is soothingly sinister. As if he is knowing before one speaks. A golden tan to his skin reflects that of a man who loves sunning. Sleeping on his island domains beach and shore is his favorite pastime. Nicely muscled and very active.

His voice is of honey. Rich,deep,thick. Sweet words of lulling. Only to extrap you in his coils. And by then...it is all but too late. He has you.

The master of his den,keeps it spotless. Takes very good care of it. Adorns it with only the finest treasures,jewels,silks,and decor. His island home is absolutely beautiful. All are welcome. But few ever want to leave....or....*laugh* could leave. Books upon books scattered about his lair tells of an intellectual man. Various tinkering of devices also states of a man who is engineering. Alchemy and science. Magic and practicality. This is a man of absolute brilliance. Deadly and terrifyingly intelligent.

To look upon this man. Is to look at the devil face to face. How you face said devil. Tells more about you traveler. Than the serpentine you gaze upon.

Some run,some hide,some act in righteous fury,some cry in fear. And some...just some...look upon him.

And feel free. Alive. And even fall into a deep love and compassion.

These are the people you should be wary of.

For they do not fear death nor hell.

And they find comfort,in his deathly coils.

Shang tsung,lord of souls. High mage of magic. Emperor of the grey isle. Master of death itself.

I was bored, so I did a movie cast meme featuring characters present within my AU based on the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie.

Author's notes:

- While Karl Urban is playing Johnny Cage in the upcoming sequel, I used the image of Simpy Cage aka his counterpart from the Legends animated movies. I'm not too excited for the sequel, one of the reasons why is because of a huge emphasis on Johnny Cage and what his role will be over arguably more important things like whether or not Liu Kang will be the hero and defeat Shang Tsung.

- Jade, Shao Kahn, Sindel, Quan Chi, Baraka and Jerrod have been cast for the upcoming sequel, but I did leave them out of this meme since I had nowhere to include them. I could have easily cast Jade as Kung Lao's love interest, and it's great if you ship them, though I kinda ship him with Li Mei more.

- The images for Li Mei and Reiko are from New MK1 since Li Mei is not in the film universe yet (and whether or not she will be depends on whether or not the film franchise keeps going), and the way Reiko was depicted in MK 2021 was really lame.

- Yoshi Sudarso isn't confirmed to be Kuai Liang/Sub-Zero in the sequel (at least, as far as I'm aware), but he is quite a fan favorite choice to play the character if he ever does appear in the film universe.

I can't find the previous post where I mentioned this, but I much prefer the MK 2021 version of Hanzo and Bi-Han's backstory (although never detailed), because it insinuates that they were intimately familiar with their kombat styles and perhaps also previously connected as allies. Bi-Han simply murdered Hanzo 'For the Lin Kuei,' and its clans' own good, considering he has sided with Shang Tsung (as also shown in MK1). That iteration of Bi-Han's dialogue was more than enough for me to come to this conclusion, and also Harumi and Satoshi seem to know him at least personally as well.

Instead of having Quan Chi involved with his deception, eldritch magic, and manipulation, it makes their character relationship and possible relationship tropes much more interesting and vast. They HAVE killed each other in such violent, visceral ways, and that is why I also see their chemistry as dichotomous 'love as violence and hunger' and obvious seething hate and vengeance towards each other.

Ok sorry not sorry but if y'all legit ship sonya x shang you have serious issues. And are not welcome here.

Sonya no offense is bland af. (She was better in earlier games. But thats besides the point) and y'all only do that because of the damn 95 movie. Which btw didn't have many women in there to begin with. But thats again beside the point. He can do sooooooooo much better. Fr. Tons of other mk beauties. Fr. Like hell the 2021 movie at least had nitara getting some shang hung. So that's while odd to me, makes waaaaaaaay more sense. (Again no shade but Its sad because sonya is so much more than some oogle eye candy,monotoned,military barbie,bland american girl. Plus its just fucking weird when people take this ship seriously. Like eww. Sonya deserves better treatment than that,like she's like that cool aunt,so for her to be disrespected as she gets from fans and canon is disgusting. Like im a shang tsimp,and i love my fictional husbando, but i have standards. Any fans that take this ship seriously disturbs me greatly.)

If y'all even remotely take any of that so called "flirting" in the 95 or games seriously. Then you obviously do not know shang tsung in the slightest. You do not know he loves to toil with people. Fantástico Senhor Raposo

Produção

Com um casting de peso, o filme “O Fantástico Senhor Raposo” se baseia no livro de mesmo nome de Roald Dahl, que é, por sua vez, baseado na vida do autor, pode-se dizer que Senhor Raposo é a versão animal de Dahl.

Wes Anderson, o diretor, utiliza da animação em stop-motion para dar vida à história, sendo extremamente cuidadoso tanto na pesquisa e preparação, quanto na produção do longa-metragem. O diretor utiliza das habilidades de artistas visuais tanto para a criação dos personagens quanto para as animações utilizadas como base para as gravações finais.

Anderson mergulhou na obra original e, junto de sua equipe, estudou a casa e o escritório do autor, passando tempo dentro da casa vivendo o que o filme poderia vir a ser. O filme inteiro possui inúmeros detalhes iguais aos da casa do autor do livro e de seu escritório, desde os objetos até as cores das lâmpadas. Também foi atrás do ilustrador da primeira edição do livro, conseguindo concepts do mesmo e usando suas ilustrações como guia para as visualidades da obra.

Mesmo sendo sua primeira animação em stop-motion, Anderson conseguiu criar uma espécie de familiaridade e conforto em seu longa, utilizando de 126 sets unicos, diversos objetos meticulosamente detalhados e inúmeras marionetes. Na criação da casa Fox buscaram que o local tivesse muitas texturas, objetos e estampas para que a casa parecesse mais vivida, íntima, única e diferente. O filme apresenta tratamento especial com o cenário, especialmente em cenas escuras e em locais fechados, tendo muito cuidado com a iluminação buscando uma visualidade orgânica e complexa com a ajuda de artistas extremamente habilidosos.

As marionetes fizeram com que a produção tivesse de solucionar o problema de como fazê-las aparecerem sem destoar do resto. As mesmas foram produzidas meticulosamente, primeiro esculpidas, tiradas moldes, e, finalmente, montadas com um esqueleto mecânico de metal que possibilita movimentos diversos, desde os braços, até os dedos, bochechas e nariz. Seus esqueletos cobertos por silicone ou látex e pelo animal. Eram, também, feitas em diversos tamanhos para se adequarem aos shots, podendo ser desde mini micro, micro, half ou full scale, variando conforme a necessidade.

As gravações eram feitas, em parte, com uso de tela verde, o que possibilitava maior experimentação durante as gravações (principalmente das expressões). Muitas gravações feitas eram apenas testes de movimentos, como danças, e de composições.

Dublagem

Dublagem e atuação

Os dubladores do longa-metragem entregavam uma voz muito condizente com a atuação original, até melhor talvez por conta de serem menos suaves. Na dublagem original, os atores não gravaram em estúdio boa parte das cenas, elas foram gravadas em ambiente real para cada cena, que variam em muitos lugares, desde campos abertos até um esgoto. Os sons animalescos também foram feitos pelos atores nos mesmo lugares em que ocorriam as cenas.

Sr Raposo, por exemplo, tem uma voz calma e suave de George Clooney, que encaixou perfeitamente com o personagem; em português, o dublador Armando Tiraboschi (vozes de Jeremy Wade-Monstros do Rio/ Shang Tsung-MK11 de 2019-MK 1 de 2023-Narrador Jojo Bizarre Adventures de 2021) entregou uma voz mais agitada para ele, acompanhando o ritmo acelerado do filme e com a personalidade do personagem (raposa muito inteligente trapaceira ágil e arrogante).

Os atores fizeram as gravações e recordações das vozes com objetos de cena que auxiliavam no contexto do momento, não separando o corpo da voz.

A atuação lembra muito o teatro da crueldade de Artaud, por conta das onomatopeias e sons animais, porém também remete ao Teatro Realista de Stanislavski, onde os personagens têm um aprofundamento por parte dos atores e ficam tentando deixar eles os mais reais possíveis e vivenciando as situações deles, como num trecho do filme onde os fazendeiros recebem uma mensagem de volta do Sr Raposo que foi escrita de forma estranha e Franklin Bean questiona o porquê disso, sendo que ele mesmo fez do mesmo jeito. assim como os dubladores fizeram a sobreposição de voz corretamente e sem descartar fatores visíveis dos personagens como falar com um cigarro na boca ou falando enquanto come.

Visual

O filme foi dirigido por Wes Anderson, que é conhecido por sua maneira única e até mesmo considerada “esquisita”. Anderson tem muitas características marcantes em seus filmes, que aparecem diversas vezes em “O Fantástico Sr. Raposo”.

Uma das características que é constante no filme é o enquadramento das cenas, que segue a regra dos terços, onde a regra consiste em separar a cena em três seções de tamanhos proporcionais, tanto na vertical quanto na horizontal, dentro existem pontos de interesse, que é usado para que o olhar da audiência vá primeiro nele e depois em outros pontos e a câmera sempre se movimentando no sentido horizontal. Também, várias cenas apresentam um zoom no rosto de um dos personagens, que foi usado em momentos cômicos ou dramáticos.

O filme, por não haver muitas mudanças de ângulos ou zoom nos rostos de personagens, por muitos movimentos exagerados e títulos do que está acontecendo na cena ou para mostrar a passagem de tempo, dá uma sensação de estar assistindo uma peça de teatro.

Todo o visual do filme foi inspirado em livros infantis, com uma paleta de cores limitada a tons quentes, simulando uma tarde de outono, que traz uma sensação de conforto e familiaridade.

Personagens animadas com características visuais marcantes, com roupas e traços faciais icônicos e detalhados. As personagens, por a maioria ser animal, apresentavam muita textura, que se movimentavam junto com as ações das personagens, suas roupas, que eram feitas de tecido de verdade também se moviam. E cada uma das personagens, foi realizada com muitos detalhes excepcionais e com diferença entre cada. Os cenários também apresentavam essas singularidades.

Os movimentos, principalmente das raposas, acontecem muito rápido, pode ter sido uma decisão para deixar mais fácil a animação, pois movimentos rápidos igual a menos quadros sendo mais simples e práticos de animar ou para mostrar a agilidade das raposas e como suas vidas são curtas e corridas, essa informação é relembrada no filme diversas vezes, então a animação pode ser um reflexo disso.

“O Fantástico Sr. Raposo” é um longa-metragem com características únicas, fazendo com que seu visual seja marcante e trazendo conforto para sua audiência.

Even after the 2021 reboot, this is still my favorite Mortal Kombat movie.

While it may not have the blood and gore that is synonymous with the games, it still genuinely captured the tone and spirit of the franchise.

The plot moves at such a brisk pace, and I love how simple it is compared to the other MK movies, which normally try to cram in as much of the lore and characters as possible (or at least their takes on them).

The cast is excellent. Robin Shou as Liu Kang is truly the heart and soul of the film for me (it also helps that he contributed greatly to the film's production). Linden Ashby was honestly the best Johnny Cage in the entire franchise. You also have Christopher Lambert as Raiden and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung, both of whom go over-the-top in the best way possible while still being extremely charismatic and charming.

Of course, Mortal Kombat is a Martial Arts movie based on a fighting game franchise, so one expects the movie to excel on the action, and it does just that as you have some truly entertaining fight scenes, especially Johnny Cage vs. Scorpion and Liu Kang vs. Reptile, both of which were choreographed by Robin Shou (which goes back to how he contributed to the production).

Visually, this movie looks great. Sure, the special effects haven't aged well, but the cinematography and production design still look great as ever. Paul W.S. Anderson truly showed potential here, despite his later works being mostly garbage, but I always thought he was a great visual director.

You also have that amazing soundtrack. Obviously, the Mortal Kombat theme song by The Immortals (a side project by Lords of Acid) as well as the remix by Utah Saints, but you also have some great Electronic and Metal songs from the likes of KMFDM, Orbital, Fear Factory, etc.

Mortal Kombat (1995) is actually still my favorite video game movie. While they have gotten better lately with the likes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the two Sonic the Hedgehog movies, all of which were solid, this definitely set the bar earlier.
