hiii thank you so much for sending me this lovely ask!! I'm really excited to answer all questions, it'll be a lot of fun!

I'm just gonna put it behind keep reading because this turned out much longer than I anticipated :')

1) Who is stronger, Mistoffelees or Macavity and what kinds of magic do they specialize in?

so for who's stronger, the answer is a bit complicated: if we're talking sheer power I'd say Macavity. I think that he fuels his powers with rage and that he's pretty erratic, so in terms of power alone, he's stronger than the inexperienced Misto.

in terms of skill, I think they're kind of on the same level, because Misto's been described as inexperienced and just learning to control his powers, meanwhile I don't think Mac had anyone to learn from and had to figure out a lot by himself.

HOWEVER, Misto has one thing Mac doesn't and this is going to sound like a stupid H*rry P*tter quote but bear with me: Misto has the jellicle cats. He has the confidence, morale and numbers of someone backed by a whole community.

so, do I think that Mac would defeat Misto in a one on one power-off in a situation when it was just the two of them? sure, but I also think that Misto would NEVER end up in a situation where he'd have to face Mac alone.

what kind of magic do they specialize in? I base this mostly on what's seen in the show but I think Misto has telekinetic powers, is capable of manipulating light and lightning, and I think he's at least partially clairvoyant. as for Mac, I've seen people hc him as a hypnotist and someone who can create illusions, which is all fun but I personally prefer this idea that he can manipulate people without the use of magic. when it comes to the magic I like the idea of him being a shapeshifter, I know that in the show the Old Deut thing was just a disguise, but I think it'd be fun if he could shapeshift. I think he can also manipulate light and lightning, but that's just my vibes.

2) Who do you ship, if any, and why? Any friendships you like best?

here are my main ships in no particular order:

I don't have a friendship preference I think? pretty much anyone I don't ship, I like them as friends. though I do particularly like the friendship between Victoria and Jemima.

3) How old is the oldest cat and how young is the youngest cat? Who are they?

hmm honestly I wouldn't like to speculate on the exact ages of the characters? I don't have a specific reason for it. but I will say that I think Gus is the oldest and that Jemima is the youngest.

4) Any headcanons on where the Jellicles are based? Are there any humans dropping by the junkyard to deposit stuff?

I don't have a specific place in mind! I think the beauty of Cats is that it could take place anywhere and even when I write fanfics, I like to keep it very vague as to where the characters are located.

I'm sure they encounter humans, but I think the jellicles would avoid them, especially the strays. I'm kinda conflicted on this because maybe the non-strays wouldn't want to avoid humans, like if they're used to them already? but at the same time I feel like it's a collective thing that at least while they're at the junkyard, it's a no human space.

5) Which cats are strays and which aren't?

oh I love this, so I'm not gonna list every single character, just the ones I have an opinion on:

obviously I think that Bustopher Jones isn't a stray, this one's easy.

I think Demeter and Bombalurina are strays, but there's space for Bomba not to be.

I think Grizabella may have been kicked out or otherwise lost her home.

Jemima has stray vibes, but Victoria has non-stray vibes. she actually seems pretty shielded idk.

Jennyanydots isn't a stray.

Jerrie and Teazer are strays in my eyes, despite their song referencing a family.

I think Old Deut was a stray but was taken in later in life.

Macavity is either fully a stray or as a kitten was in a home that didn't take care of him, so he either ran away or was kicked out (I really like giving my faves tragic backstories totally understandable if people disagree with this interpretation, it's literally just my vibes).

Skimble is my favorite for this question because I think he's a stray only to an extent. Skimble is a stray in the sense that he doesn't have permanent residence, but isn't in the sense that he's being taken care of by a community. he sleeps at the station and gets food more or less regularly, but like he doesn't have a home per se and he's free to go wherever he wants.

I think Munk works well as both a stray and not: if he's a stray it makes sense because he has street smarts and is very protective due to his rough life, or if not, he's nurturing due to the care he knew at his home.

I think Tugger isn't a stray and is actually beloved in his home.

again despite Mr. Mistoffelees the song referencing a house, I see Misto as a stray. at best he's a neighborhood cat, but not really like Skimble, in Misto's case he'd get food more inconsistently for example.

6) Favorite female cat? Favorite male cat? Favorite background character?

ohhhh that's tough man ummmmmmm my favorite female cat has is either Jemima or Demeter, and my favorite male cat is either Tugger, Misto or Mac. Alonzo is my favorite background character.

7) Do any of the cats have a favorite food? How do they go about getting it? Do any have a least favorite smell?

I'm not really sure about what anyone's favorite food could be and sorry to change the topic, but I have been thinking about how picky certain characters may be:

naturally it would depend on whether someone is a stray or not, but with some exceptions. I think that Tugger and Bustopher Jones are the most picky from the non-strays, but from the strays I thin Skimble would be pretty picky too cus he would be used to getting good food from the community that takes care of him. I think Misto is also a bit picky as a stray, he just knows that he doesn't have much choice so he gets over it.

I'm not really sure about their least favorite smells either...

8) What time of year does the Jellicle Ball occur? Does it coincide with any notable date or is it just a night like many others?

my personal headcanon is that the Jellicle Ball is a Midsummer celebration that takes place between the 20th and 25th June every year.

9) What happens if the weather doesn't permit a Jellicle Ball? Are there consequences?

I think the setting of the junkyard allows for the weather not to be a problem, they can always fashion some kind of cover from the rain (because in my hc it's in summer so they would pretty much only have the rain to worry about, but I guess that also depends on where they are geographically).

12. Crack headcanon

In my human/celeb/soulmate au, Etcetera is a big fan of Tugger's-- her whole purpose in the fic is to keep Misto informed about what's going on with Tugger's fanbase and is constantly telling him stuff that he 1000% didn't even ask about or wants to know. She's a queen of fandom Discords and an avid Tugger x Bomba shipper-- she's probably made ship edits and AMVs and everything.

30. Sleeping habits

Etcetera can't sleep alone. She grew up the same way all the Junkyard kittens did; sleeping in the kittens' den all together, and when she became old enough to move out of aforementioned kittens' den, she, Electra, and Victoria immediately moved into a new den together, not wanting to be alone. Every night that she retires to their den first, she has to wait up for one of the other two to come down so she can actually sleep.

44. Their happiest memory

Perhaps not her absolutely *happiest* of all her memories, but her first Jellicle Ball only a couple years before the musical was an amazing night for her; just the fact of being old enough to finally participate in such an important celebration, getting to view the festivities, and seeing her first Jellicle Choice happen was amazing to her; when it was over she went to the kittens' den and told younger Jemima all about it for hours.

(For me, the girlies' ages go Victoria -> Electra -> Etcetera -> Jemima, so Jemima moved out of the kittens' den last)

Favorite Mistoffelees ship? Both 1998 and 2019

I can't pick one favourite as I have a few and it really depends on my mood who I'm thinking about more but I'll go over my favourites.

Stage Misto ships

Tuggoffelees: The classic, its popular for a reason and I love their contrasting personalities. I love Tugger hyping Misto up so much and Misto being this cute quiet sassy little guy around him. Its really cute. I also love Tugger being the overly emotional one and Misto rarely showing strong emotions (its not that he doesnt feel as much its just his face doesnt always match how he feels). Tugger will always be there to encouraged and comfort and defend Misto and Misto is the same towards him. They compliment each other really well and have lots of cute moments in canon.

Munkoffelees: its no secret I absolutely love these two. Not as popular as other ships but I really adore them. I love when they get to work together during Jennys and Bustophers songs. It's like Misto is being a good helper and wanting to impress him, or they feel like they're on the same page like a proper couple working together. Mistos quietness fits with Munk well but he can also be playful and sassy and bring out a different side in Munk. I also think Munk would always be an amazing partner and so he can care and help Misto through his shyness and when he gets overstimulated. I'm not saying other ships wouldn't do this and do this very nicely too. I just love how kind and loving Munk is and I love to see him be like that towards someone like Misto.

Mistojerrie: I love these two together because you can get even more trickery from them. Misto is a secret prankster and if the two work together you know Jerrie will always get the sole blame (Misto is just too innocent and cute looking). But I can see them having a lot of fun together. But also there's this sweet humbleness I see in Jerrie that I think could be really cute paired with Misto. And him learning how to be in a relationship, as I like to see him as kind of inexperienced. Also learning about Mistos autism and in turn Misto learns about his dyslexia and helping him see himself as a good boyfriend as Jerrie can be insecure.

Also special shout out to my favourite throuple with Misto x Jerrie x Munk. I think all their personalities work wonderfully together. But also loving Tugger x Misto x Munk more these days too.

2019 Misto

It's really just the main two, Victoria and Munkustrap. I've never really shipped this Misto with this versions Tugger much at all, they just don't have many moments together and I'm just so so happy to have a version where Misto and Munk can be seen as the main gay ship. I'm happy Munk got to sing some of Mistos song but I would have died to see Munk sing all of Mistos song like Tugger does. But Munk and Vic having their moments to sing to Misto and encourage him are still adorable. I absolutely love those two being his comfort and his biggest supporters. Especially with this Jellicle tribe being more harsh to Misto. He just needs love and appreciation with his two mates 🥺

Don't make Misto clumsy, I'm fine with him being shy and insecure though

any hcs for tumblebrutus x victoria?? :pleading:

damn grey, hard ask (thank you for it!!!!). i don't think about tumbletoria v often, but hey, i love a challenge.

Tumblebrutus, a normally confident, maybe even a little boastful, young tom was so, so shy around Victoria when he was crushing on her. And boy, was he crushing on her. In a really sweet and endearing way.

He was so sweet, always giving her shy little compliments on particular dance moves (if cats could blush, she'd have been as red as a tomato- she was flustered at his attention, having only recently realising that damn he was fine)

That winter was cold, and they often found themselves up before a lot of the other cats, dancing together (though not like, actually together at first. as in, he was on one side of the clearing and she was on the other) in companionable silence in the early morning.

But like one day, she was there first and already warmed up and dancing along with her eyes closed and Tumble just couldn't help himself, he joined in. And they just clicked, they matched each other's movements and pulled off some beautiful lifts etc etc.

Tumble is like a different tom around her. He's so calm and relaxed - picture chilled out Tugger laying on the tyre with Misto but its Tumbletoria - and it's just soshdajfghal so sweet. Of course, they have some playful moments too- one of their favourite things to do on the getting-cooler autumn nights is to play tag in the streets. They always end up in a heap of laughter back at the entrance to the Junkyard.

They also do friendly competitions with cassoffelees (yes I'm throwing them in just for you). They do complicated lifts and moves and ahhhh just amazing. They get different cats to judge (so far it's a draw, though Cassandra insists her and Misto are winning, and that Jelly declaring a tie just does not count-)

They are Cettie's otp

They have two kittens- Bill Bailey and Iza (named for Grizabella- Vic wanted to honour her mother [i know nobody cares about pronunciation but it would be pronounced ee-za])

They still do their little early morning sessions- Vic's favourite thing is when Tumble tries to teach her to do all his acrobatics, Tumble's favourite thing is watching her try to do them. (He holds in his giggles most of the time- she's getting better, but she thinks she should stick to the graceful white cat solo type stuff)

Munkustrap didn't see the pair working out at the start- they seemed too incompatible! Tumble was mischievous, boastful and filled with far too much energy and Victoria was quiet and reserved. He was terrified for his little girl's heart, but his respect for them grew as he watched them make it work, was astounded as they clicked effortlessly. Really, he should have known after seeing Misto and Tugger. Opposites attract, after all.

Oh, for Cats sake! Now I have 10 new OCs from the world where Munkustrap is Rumpus Cat in a relationship with Macavity (and they together save the Junkyard from a catastrophe, with the help of Victoria and Old D.) when Misto and Tugger trying do the same thing, but they think Macavity is bad and Rumpus is fighting with him. Also, Victoria is a Griddlebone, and helps her best friend - Mac. Aaaand Macavity is walking in the Junkyard as Plato, so they are faking relationships to better hide when one of them is doing something elsewhere. So now I have 7 Tuggoffelees' kittens, two kits from Munku and Mac and one cat from outside a Junkyard.

And of course I have in mind fanfiction, where the first part is about the situation before kittens and the second is after they are born.

Modern theatre cast st au!!

Musical - Cats!!

Steve wasnt disappointed with the character he was cast with, actually he was quite exited for it, but he was a little confused.

Originally, when he and Robin came to audition into the new show Dustin was working on. (Cats) (seriously the kid was amazing at building sets and helping with the tech side of theatre aswell as offering backing vocals if needed?!) Steve had auditioned for the role of Munkustrap.

There wasnt alot for the role compared to others he had done before, the whole musical itself was basically all song and dance which was a nice change. Sure Munkustrap danced most of the songs, but Steve had trained in both ballet and contemporary since he was little (much to his fathers resentment), so the constant dancing was a fun concept!!

Plus, with Munkustrap, it was more of a singing and narration role, most of the time performing to accompany another actor. He was also a protective cat, so steve thought performing as him would be quite fitting.

When Robin finally came barreling into their shared apartment followed by thier friend Chrissy, with the letters telling them what roles they got, Steve was surprised to see that he was given the Character of 'Mr Mistoffelees/ Quaxo' the magical cat.

"I just dont get it robs... why would they give me Mistoffelees of all cats?" He wasnt unhappy, just confused, Mistoffelees was often given to more... smaller (?) male actors. Which Steve knew he wasnt that small.

"Well maybe its because your an amazing dancer who ive witnessed do like 50 pirouette in a row, AND could easily steal the show, but doesnt like admitting how good he is out of fear people will think hes some rich kid who just gets roles handed to him instead of trying really hard because his parents disowned him leaving him to work paycheck to paycheck while also babysitting to get through performing arts school?" Robin smirked up at him over the copy of the letter telling her she got 'Skimpleshanks the railway cat', the same role she auditioned for.

Chrissy laughed, her role as 'Victoria' also displayed out infount of her, "You know shes not wrong stevie!" Mischief glinted in her eyes as she held her girlfriends hand.

Steve looked to the two of them and huffed, "I can do like 27 not 50." He roled his eyes at the unimpressed look Robin gave him, but it didn't last long before they all laughed.

Steve was pleased for them, he and Chris had met as kids, the two children of rich familys who had convinced thier parents to send them to dance school, who also lived in the same small town, quickly became close before chrissys mother moved her away. Thankfully however, they reconnected back in college away from their controlling families.

They had met Robin in a production of Wicked a couple years later, she was playing Elphaba while Chrissy was Galinda and Steve had the role as Fiyero.

Mid way through practicing the production, there had been a fire in the theatre that had him and Robin trapped for hours in the bathroom. It had left Steve with a pretty nasty concussion too.

While hiding in one of the musty old stalls, they had a heart to heart were Rob had confessed her feelings for their co star and couldnt go through with kissing Steve on stage. He had understood and after being saved from the burning reck of the old theatre, desided to come up with a way to help with Robin's stage kissing problem.

Turned out, after talking with a couple of the kids he babysits, there was an easy change that could be made to the story that fit the character archs better, aswell as not force Robin to have to kiss a boy on stage.

With permission, the kids had taken the script, making a change that left the two women as the love interests instead, while the Scarecrow Fiyero took over looking after Oz. It was an instant hit, pulling out the shows hidden queer themes. Also leading to the now power couple that is Robin and Chrissy, who didnt take long after the first show to confess to eachother!!

Now him and rob share an apartment, with Chris basically living there too even though she had her own apartment and roommate too. All now being told they finally all were cast in the same production again!

"I dont even get to sing my own song though!" He slumped into the sofa, taking a moment to glare at Robin as she chuckled at him from where she sat on the floor between Chrissy legs.

"Yes buttttt you get like the coolest costume and the best dance number all while being serenaded by whoever is playing Rum Tum Tugger!" Robin threw her hand that wasnt being held by her girlfriend in the air as she talked, "Plus Mistoffelees has a bunch of like, jumps and spinnys which is like... literally your favourite thing to do when dancing so dont worry about how you got the role, be exited that you get to do it!!!"

Steve looked down and smiled, "I am exited... it's going to be the first performance with us and all the kids either performing or working front or back of house... plus Jon said hes helping backstage this year and doing promotional work, and Hoppers joining again, I so am exited. I just want this to be perfect Robs."

He looked up to see his best friend giving him a knowing smile. They had worked hard for this, both with unsuporting familys, all the tireless classes, with boring tough part time jobs to afford paying off loans and rent. They worked for this.

Even if this was performing as mystical, jellicle cats on Broadway.

"If it helps," Chis let go of Robin, scooching her legs around her girlfriend so she could move to cuddle into Steve's side. He leaned into her, snorting slightly hearing Robin huff that steve stole Chrissy from her.

"If it helps, I'm almost certainly convinced I know who got Tugger if your wondering who got to sing your song." She beamed at him, excitedly grabbing his hands in hers and pulling them both to be sitting up as Robin came and rested her arms on their legs, "my roommate auditioned for Cats aswell! He doesnt often do shows like this but his dream role ever since I ment him has been Rum Tum Tugger!! Hes really good aswell so if its him I bet you guys would work wonders together!"

Steve laughed and shook his head. "You make it sound like Mistoffelees and Tugger are inlove!?"

The girls gasped! "Steve I know you're a dingus who probably has enough brain damage to stop you from performing, but you HAVE to know of the power couple that is Tugoffelees!?!?" Robin said sounding aghast from where she sat on the floor, hand to her chest and everything!

"Omg EXACTLY!!" Chrissy looked between Robin and Steve, "Tugger doesnt want everything he cant have, stealing the spotlight whenever he can, while misto playfully acts uninterested when every fauns over Tugger, ONLY FOR Rum Tum Tugger to sing an entire song dedicated to Mistoffelees being perfect!?!? I dont think so steve, that has gay and smitten written all over it!!!"

Steve snorted and shook his head, looking at the girls like they couldnt be serious. When he noticed their expressions hadnt changed, still holding firm about this suposed truth for these beloved characters, he looked at them like they had grown a third head.

"They are CATS??" he said incredulously!

"THEY'RE GAY CATS STEVE!!" The lesbians yelled back in unison!

He groaned knowing he wouldnt win this argument, even tho being queer himself and understanding what it ment to have characters like them in media, especially theatre. Still he had never been able to get into any fandoms, even if he did perform in some shows with respectably large ones, much unlike his female counterparts who revealed in needing out one every musical they heard. So honestly the concept of how two cats based on children's poems were gay? Very possible. Was he about to analyse every rendition of the character to determine their sexual preferences?

Yeah no, he would much rather just dance his little heart out performing as said character, than worrying about anyone else's but his owns sexuality.

Plus, he doubted he could even have the same 'romantic tension' with he co star, whoever he was, anyway. He had given up on romance ages ago since his last relationship with Nancy Wheeler, a kick ass reporter who had been writing an article about how the group had gotten the chance to rewrite parts of Wicked, crashed and burned the night of the grand finale.

Steve gave out a long suffering sigh, "Uhhhh fine you win gay cats," he rubbed a hand over his face, "but really chris, your roommate? I thought you said he was in a metal band??"

"Oh he is!" She absent mindedly went to stroke Robin's hair as she spoke, "but he and his best friend are in some of my music classes, they often audition for more 'out there' parts. His most known role was the Phantom in Phantom of the opera, and I think his friend got Michael last year in an off Broadway production of Be more chill, they both auditioned for this show aswell! They have like amazing range as singers!!"

"Well if they get any parts it's going to be nice to finally meet them!" Rob says looking pleasantly blissed out from being pet by her girlfriend. "You've been rooming with this guy for like three years and I dont think I've seen more than a picture of him!"

Chrissy giggled, they all knew her roommate was her other best friend she lovingly called rockstar to the point no one was sure what his real name was. At this point it was a running joke to see who ever could meet him first since the man was often sleeping, or away through out most of the evening and night. Constant clashing of schedules making it so neither him or robin had met the elusive man. Which was kind of shocking since apparently to chis, he was very hard to miss!

"Definitely!! Hes out of state till next week, just before rehearsals start actually, so I was wondering I could stay here till hes back?"

"Do you really have to ask Chris?" Robin asked, making her girlfriend turn to her with a shy smile.

"I love having you here and so does Robs, you practically live here at this point" steve pointed out, "honestly I'd tell you to move in if I knew you didnt like liveing with your other friend so much!"

"Now come on! We just got the greatest job offers yet, we need to celebrate!!" The woman dragged them, all laughing with her, too her and Steve's liquor cabinet. Opening it and reaching in she pulled out a bottle of vodka that Murray, their very... exasperated acting coach, had lovingly gifted them after their auditions.

Robin looked Steve in the eye, a glimmer of something mischievous as she brandished the bottle.

I’ve seen your warsaw!Misto x 98!Munk posts, do you have any more crossover-y headcanons or ships?

I do have actually a bunch of headcanons and a few other crossover ships!

My main cats au is a crossover where both tribes are in London and while their interactions used to be sparse they get more friendly after 98!Munk and Fantazja (Warsaw og) become neighbours and then friends, and also cuz happenings of the most recent Jellicle Ball. This au also includes Mefistrap aka W!Misto x 98!Munk

2 other hcs in this au:

1. Bustopher Jones and Kot Bywalec (Warsaw Bustopher) are brothers and Bywalec is the father of W!Misto and grandfather of W!Victoria. They also got a little sister who is 98 Misto and Victoria's mother. Which Makes the twins W!Misto's cousins, and also aunt and uncle to W!Vicky

2. There is only one Macavity, it's Jellicle Macavity, he kinda sorta adopted Warsaw Bomba as his sister for a time, and Warsaw Deme was briefly one of his side chicks

In that au the 2019 tribe was originally made up from cats that for various reasons left the Jellicles and from cats that wanted a new tribe after the Roof Clan fell apart for reasonsTM

A little au where the Jones brothers are a thing but 98!Misto is actually Warsaw!Cassoffelees' son and was passed as 98!Victoria's brother to protect him from Macavity

Jellicle!Misto x Warsaw!Munk crack ship that I made for fun of it being the opposite of Mefistrap

The accidental 98!Alonzo x Warsaw!Cassandra that I get every now and then in my head cuz I sometimes forget that replica Cass looks completely different, and then imagine Warsaw one in her place XD

Plus few others which are all human aus of various genres, all crossovers, the most notable ones being: one that is not only Warsaw x 98 but also has Batman/DC thrown in the mix; and one fantasy one that has in total 5 different versions of Mistoffelees running around XD
