Google Docs insisting that I’m spelling Alexsander’s name incorrectly despite me having sworn I’d already told it to ignore that is particularly funny to me because of how he only ever addresses Caroline as “Carolyn” unless they’re having a deeply serious conversation just to be a nuisance.

STARTER CALL ( @cantuscorvi ) — 𝕣𝕒𝕦𝕞 𝕙𝕒𝕤 𝕔𝕠𝕗𝕗𝕖𝕖 𝕒𝕔𝕔𝕚𝕕𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕪 𝕤𝕡𝕚𝕝𝕝𝕖𝕕 𝕠𝕟 𝕙𝕚𝕞.
Tumblr media
“Ahhh, I’m very sorry, Rao-Rao! I didn’t mean to spill coffee all over your expensive suit!” came her shrill, panicked cry as coal black eyes accessed the dark amber liquid seeping through the fabric of his white dress shirt. Granted, she wasn’t entirely at fault considering a man had shoved her from behind so hard, the cup had been knocked out of her hands, but at the same time, Vivian still felt awful she couldn’t exactly prevent herself from losing her balance and potentially scalding him; then again, the coffee was no longer that hot, meaning he might only be uncomfortable at best?
...Regardless, she’ll soon bite down hard onto her lower lip, too preoccupied with worry to even bother pursuing whoever had pushed her. Within seconds, though, Vivian proceeds to nervously glance up at his face while withdrawing her teeth and pulling the half-emptied coffee cup to her chest. “Say, um... do you happen to have a change of clothes on you? ‘Cause my apartment isn’t that far away from here, so if you want, you could go take a shower while I clean the stains for you,” she then proceeds to offer.
Honestly, four years ago, Vivian might have had no idea how to even do the laundry, but nowadays, she was getting better at washing her own clothes; therefore, she was somewhat confident she could at least return Raum’s dress shirt, freshly cleaned and ironed.

if i am the wind, fleeting and transient, you are the steady and constant earth upon which i stand.
summary. kaedehara kazuha's older sibling is a geo-aligned mirror of himself.
trigger & content warnings. references to tomo's death and mentions of sensory overload.
tropes, pairings, fic length, & other notes. fluff, hurt/comfort. kazuha & older sibling!reader, slight beidou x reader. 0.7k words. they/them pronouns for reader. reader has a geo vision.
author's thoughts. this was an old draft that i decided to finish bc tbh? kazuha >>> lately i'm finishing and posting old drafts? i think it's because i'm realizing that they aren't even half as bad as i originally thought.
Tumblr media
imagine being kazuha's geo bearing older sibling.
kaedehara kazuha is, for the most part, a gentle gale. fleeting, transient, evanescent.
kaedehara [name] is his polar opposite—they are the firm earth. lasting, enduring, permanent.
they were easily one of the raiden shogun's most vocal opposers during the vision hunt decree. how dare she treat her people with such lack of care? the people she should have loved? the people that she had once promised a dream to? where was all that love when she decided to cruelly rip her citizens' visions from them in spite of all the terrible effects such force had? where was all that love?
(even after the decree gets repealed, they would still be a little bitter. they're expected to forgive her, just like that? no. their forgiveness is a thing to be earned; hell, they may simply choose to never forgive her, and after all the pain she caused them and their brother? it would be justified. they do not care if she is an archon.)
"eternity is not complacency in a stasis-like state," they once told kazuha, "but rather, it is the endurance of a legacy for centuries to come. that is eternity."
they stayed back in inazuma, holding off the shogunate while kazuha ran away after tomo's death.
he cried when he had to part from them, but at their command, he ultimately did obey. as much as it hurt him to abandon them, not knowing if they'd somehow manage to escape on their own, he knew they would hate it if he refused to leave. so he did.
thankfully, the resistance took them in. they stayed with kokomi and gorou the majority of the time, helping them push back against the electro archon's tyranny.
kazuha definitely adores his older sibling!! he will literally never say a single bad thing about them to anyone. never. no slander will come from his lips.
when beidou first got to meet them, she was absolutely overjoyed; she can see where kazuha gets his attitude from! they also thanked her profusely for taking such good care of him when they could not. the two got on very well! kazuha was so happy to see some of his favorite people getting along <3
beidou loves them. genuinely.
she always encourages them to come on the alcor. there is always a place for them with her crew! sometimes they do take her up on her offer and they travel teyvat for a while. once their family affairs are settled, they'll start traveling full-time, occassionally returning to inazuma to visit their friends.
she also gets so excited when she knows they'll be on board—beidou likes exchanging stories with them and just... talking. she loves that.
someone had to teach kazuha how to play music on leaves, you know. it was definitely [name].
kazu and his sibling would compliment one another really well in battle. they'd be able to predict one another's next moves based on muscle twitches, changes in stance... it's like they can read each other's minds! they can't. they just know one another inside and out.
sometimes they'll cup their hands over his ears to protect him in situations where he cannot avoid a storm or similar thing that might hurt his ears. this gesture is greatly appreciated. kazuha does what he can to reciprocate that—if they're overwhelmed or overstimulated? his first priority is to get them somewhere calmer. they protect him in his moments of sensitivity, so it's only fair for him to do the same.
i like to think kazuha and his sibling sit and admire scenery together. maybe they point out shapes in the clouds. maybe they take note of interesting sounds they hear in the bushes. however the two spend their time admiring the world, it is always an enjoyable time.
i also think the two would play in the rain, as long as it isn't too heavy <3 dancing in the rain together, taking walks in the rain together... it'a comforting.
sometimes kazuha will lay his head on their lap as if he were some kind of cat, and he'll just fall asleep. a mid-afternoon nap on his older sibling.
on top of all of that, kazuha speaks his mind to his sibling, and he hopes they'll do the same. he wants them to always be honest about what they're thinking and how they're feeling.
he knows that, as the eldest, they may have had to carry heavy burdens all throughout his childhood, while he got the privilege of existing without a care in the world.
the heavy burdens will be no more.
he is old enough to help shoulder the weight, and help shoulder the weight he will.
please consider reblogging, it helps me out quite a lot!

here are my house observations, im in season 3
some of the shit house says to foreman is genuinely unforgivable
foreman as a character i generally like. omar epps is giving a good performance of an even-keeled-but-not-without-effort kind of guy, i do like the plotline of a guy who came to learn from an expert whos the worst guy in the world and trying to figure out how to do the same thing without being the worst guy in the world. i also think they way they keep him out of hospital love triangles is racist, foreman is not currently hot but could be with 15% more attention from the writers room.
really sexist as a general rule. i have not encountered the idea of "jailbait" this much in literal years.
hipster racism. its the 2000s. funny to talk abt this because "hipsters" were younger at this point and the character of house is, im assuming, in his mid 40s at the start of the show, but thats the general logic that seems to be on display. "well you know that he's a good guy so its ironic and funny that he's threatening to use the n word as a joke."
a) stupid logic to begin with, doing something ironically is also just doing it, b) doesnt even work on its own terms here because house is widely acknowledged to be an awful person in the context. the entire show is built around the question "how much deliberately annoying, dangerous bullshit will we endure from this dickhead to maintain access to his unique skillset"
i still dont "get" house/wilson. like i do see it, like i can see that theyre a little obsessed with each other and they have a fun mutually manipulative dynamic, and they make sense as foils (guy who's self-consciously awful and often ends up doing noble things accidentally/guy who's self-consciously noble and often deliberately does awful things). but i cannot feel myself going insane about it. if anything i like him better with cuddy
cuddy really really hot. really really really hot. cuddy.
so like yeah i see house/wilson im just not going insane about it the way i thought i might. altho tbh it took a global pandemic and a extended, byzantine renaissance of tumblrina supernatural scholarship to make me have a destiel spiral. i need infrastructure for these things.
cameron's character is such an old school token girl character. i hate how they treat her "niceness" almost as much as i hate how they treat her crush on house.
a better show (written by me) would have some more cuddy and foreman "managing" house plotlines (foreman being a protege allows focus on the legacy of house's medicine, how to replicate it, how to contain damage), probably give him some of the cuddy and wilson time. the three of them together would be good i could do that.
cuddy/foreman. hm. in the remake.
like, i do get how this happened. house is troubled in a durable, interesting way. the writing is good enough to support his layers, the way his snap-judgement psychoanalysis of everyone he meets curls back around to shine a light on his own issues. good balance of competence and patheticness. laurie is giving a masterclass in the niche field of "british comedian comes to us tv drama, grows some stubble, becomes a sex symbol." i read an old review that referred to his "sourpuss charisma" i really like that turn of phrase.
(i was also into josh on the west wing when i watched that last year, i have a type i love antagonism. no im not dating anyone right now, who wants to take me for a candlelit dinner and tell me i smell good and my voice is sexy) (you cant just compliment me, ill be bored or uncomfortable, you have to bury it in a disagreement and make it clear youre kind of mad that youre into me)
that said i think the show kind of misunderstands house's sex appeal. it feels very written-by-men. women characters throw themselves at house in a porny kind of take-me-now way. in my observations guys who are arent traditionally hot but attractive in this antagonistic, talky was dont really get that kind of treatment, but they do get the main cast wilson/cuddy/cameron "i hate this guy but im obsessed with him and i will never make a move or i will and itll go badly" kind of stuff. my phantom house reboot does have cameron and house hook up and its a really mean and destructive fwb thing with like 4 false endings. does this make sense.
right now im in the middle of the plotline where leighton meester plays a 17 yr old girl stalking house because shes so in love. like thats not the vibe. at least from what ive seen. im not omniscient.
lol it turns out she has a spore makign her hypersexual lolllll i literally have this on in the background rn ok i take some of this back.
whenever i mention to someone im watching house theyll recount to me the plot of the one episode they can remember and it always sounds insane and its never made up.
"the one with the intersex teen model who fucks her dad to manipulate him and has testicular cancer" like yeah. yeah thats real. if you talked to me 3 weeks ago thatd be the one i recounted to you.
yes house does leer at her in that episode and its treated as logical and normal for a 45 year old man.
i hate chase, he's awful but boring.
im curious how long im gonna keep watching this, i know the later seasons get kind of soapy plotwise and i dont know if thats what i want out of this

why I don't think the Blacks were actually that wealthy is this:
Tumblr media
"A reasonable amount of gold."
So, Harry inherits ALL of Sirius's money, house, his House-elf. Since Grimmauld Place goes to Sirius after the death of his parents, it's fair to assume that he also got all their money. He also, as we know, inherited a good chunk of gold from his Uncle Alphard. Being in Azkaban for 12 years and later living in hiding/at Grimmauld place, he probably did not spend much of that money. His one big expense is the Firebolt, which, yeah, is expensive but if the Blacks had been uber loaded like they're portrayed in fic, I don't think Dumbledore would have used the word "reasonable" to describe what was left to Harry.
Reasonable suggests to me that yeah, it's a decent amount. But it's not MORE than what Harry already had. It's not an EXTREME amount.
Another thing for me is the matter of Bellatrix's marriage. Narcissa and Lucius seem to genuinely be in love, but I don't think Bellatrix mentions Rodolphus, her literal husband, ONCE (correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly certain) in the ENTIRE series. She was in love with Voldemort. She probably didn't want to marry Rodolphus and clearly didn't care much about him. This suggests to me that the motivations behind this marriage were financial rather than romantic. Even Narcissa's marriage to Lucius was probably financially motivated, even though they were lucky enough to actually be a good match. Walburga married her own cousin- again, this was likely financially motivated.
The other clue is Grimmauld Place itself. Historically wealthy/aristocratic families would have a london townhouse for the season, but reside most of the time in country estates or manor houses. There's no mention of any Black family estate at all, and if there was one Sirius being the eldest male heir would have inherited it, as would Harry later. The fact that the Blacks live only in their London house (which is not even that ostentatious, it's terraced and between Muggle houses. why would they choose this.) suggests to me that any country estate they might have had was sold. I guess you could argue that Cygnus and his daughters lived there, but he was the youngest so i find this unlikely. If anything, it would have gone to Alphard. It might have passed to Cygnus upon his death, but that still leaves Walburga without.
What I think happened was that the Blacks were a typical old money family with dwindling resources. Likely Orion and Walburga did not work, and yet still clung to a lavish, aristocratic lifestyle while burning the galleons they had. Grimmauld Place is in a state of disrepair, and yeah it's been abandoned for 12+ years imo it probably started before that. Kreacher is OBSESSED with Black family heirlooms, which suggests that Walburga probably was too- likely she clung onto them as signs of her family's wealth and status, which was fading away before her eyes.
Personally I think Alphard probably inherited the bulk of what was left of the Black fortune, possibly an estate which he then either sold or gave to someone else- but presumably not Walburga, as she blasted him off the tapestry.
And the blasting of Alphard itself. Yeah Walburga hated Sirius and anyone who looked kindly on him, but imo if had she been rolling in it and money was of no concern, Alphard leaving Sirius some gold might not have been especially noteworthy to her. I believe that she was hoping that either she or Regulus would inherit the gold, and when he left it to Sirius she reacted VERY angrily. Because tbh, it might have just gone to him by default as the eldest male heir if Cygnus was dead by that time, which if this is the case seems likely because Alphard DID leave Sirius money. If it was just about him being fond of Sirius she likely would have blasted him off earlier. It seems to me like it was about the money, and to me explains why Walburga was so bitter and so possessive over her legacy.

Now that you've read the brothers Hawthorne, do you have any averyjameson headcanons or theories?
Hmm, first theory: Jameson's revelation to Avery about Prague will be a major plot line for them in discovering another incident like the Hawthorne Island fire but not covered in The Grandest Game. It might mean that at some point or another, Prague will be a destination to revisit and who knows, maybe a continent-wide European adventure for our fave duo and this time with all the brothers included. In the meantime, I think they will be too busy setting up the Grandest Game but I believe they will try their best to look into the situation and see what they can find out just nothing major yet. Maybe Avery will ask Toby if he knows anything but I don't know if she will feel like she is risking him because of Eve's takeover of the Blake fortune.
My second theory is that between TBH and TGG they will go to Scotland and stay at Vantage, perhaps also have a more formal introduction to the Johnstone-Jameson family while they're there. Kind of hope that Jamie gets to meet his grandmother. Something just tells me his next big plot might revolve around both his grandmothers since his paternal grandmother was also mentioned quite a bit because of Vantage so I can't help thinking JLB wants us to infer something important there. Going back to Avery and Jameson, one part that stood out to me was when he brought up the fact that she gave away most of the foreign properties to the foundation and then asked her what she thought of Scottish castles. I'm questioning if he meant it like a question of co-ownership to curate the place together because his uncle did say he would pay for the upkeep of it or if they still hadn't visited the Scottish estate that formerly belonged to his grandfather and so they might make a trip to both Vantage and the Hawthorne property in Scotland because Avery hadn't given that one away yet. I also theorize that when she was about to answer him she was already getting an idea for a dare. Something to do with cliff climbing, likely. Also, that scene when they were running for the cliffside after the first clue was given in the Game, I couldn't help but think of Max's words in The Hawthorne Legacy and it felt like such a callback to that. Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) would have been such a great song to pair with that scene.
Anyways, onto some headcanons! Headcanon 1: So after their UK trip, Avery starts teasing Jameson about being part British by indirectly messing with him. She randomly makes references to Sherlock Holmes (the one featuring Benedict Cumberbatch, of course), purposefully brings up Downton Abbey at least twice when they're scrolling through shows to watch or just straight up leaves an episode running on the TV when Jameson is in her room (she deliberately goes around a corner and tries to catch a glimpse of his expression but when she does, he always looks stone-faced, better than Grayson's it actually scares her). On karaoke nights, she always chooses a British singer's song for him to sing when it's his turn (mostly One Direction and Adele). For his birthday, she invited a bunch of famous British actors and singers (she actually managed to get 1D to get reunited for that and if Max, Xander, and Jameson weren't the biggest fangirls that night🤭). Avery also begins calling him nicknames like Your Highness, Duke, His Excellency, etc. He just rolls his eyes every time. In other attempts to rile him up, she uses British slang and tells him that he should be inclined to use more of it now that they know he’s part Brit. Meanwhile, on her birthday, he got her back by getting a real tiara (with Oren’s help, duh) for her to wear for the day and it was made with emerald and orange topaz gemstones. She took it with grace and they had a Cinderella moment when they danced in the Great Room alone after everyone left.
Headcanon 2: On a more serious note, some days, Jameson’s mind gets occupied by thoughts of his father and he gets really quiet and withdrawn from everyone. Usually, in those situations, he ends up on the roof and with the knife in hand, constantly twirling it. While everybody else leaves him alone, Avery finds him up there and she never says anything, just comes up to him and hugs him from behind (Jameson secretly loves her hugs a lot). They stay like that for a while, in complete silence, until he turns around and hugs her back but not without a forehead kiss. Then, he’d take her hand and trace little symbols onto her hand with his thumb. Some she would recognize, others are just random. It becomes their unspoken version of Tahiti as they try decoding what the other signs.
Headcanon 3: Since the night he told his secret to Avery, Jameson’s mind often wanders back to his grandmother and his grandfather’s words about the way a Hawthorne man loves: only once and never frivolously. He reflects on his grandfather’s love for his grandmother, Toby's love for Hannah, and then looks at his own relationship with Avery. Although he wouldn't tell a soul, it's obvious enough that he seems settled on her and just knows she's the one. She is his endgame. There would never be anyone like her, not before like Emily and no one after. One day, he takes her to the treehouse and tells her what his grandfather told him and Grayson that Fourth of July a few years back, the Christmas that they got the treehouse and why it looked the way it does now. Avery just listens and at the end asks him, "So, what now? You have that look in your eye." Jameson tells her he plans to have the treehouse fixed, to add more stuff than there was before, make it better than the old man made it originally. Then, he tells her that he's been thinking about them and everything that happened so far and she's a bit confused where he's going with it until he pulls out a promise ring. Avery is taken aback, reasonably so, but she accepts it and finds on the inside that it says Heads or Tails, calling back to the way they started their relationship and they kiss.
Hope you enjoyed this!

hiii i'm the last anon, honestly i'm very interested in the whole story. who's lucia, how and when has she become a serial killer, why and when did she decide to have a child, etc. i'm also extremely interested in what happens to aiden, as i've seen you have an older design of her where she lost an eye, which i assume is due to something that happened with lucia? i'd love to know it all tbh!
i'm happy that you're interested anon! i'm not good with words but if you're curious about a "deeper" dive, here's the folder for the story on my toyhouse with all of the characters involved in the story (main installment and 2012 installment).
the long story short is that i wanted to explore a story where lucia, a mixture of norman osborne (the green goblin) and patrick bateman, decides that other than being a slasher she wants to bear the perfect heir to carry on her legacy of murder. with the aide of the cursed office building that is cursed on its own, not due to her doing.
it's hard to explain the story well since i haven't "structured" it, i only have vague strokes... lucia had a child because she just could. she was a wall street broker of high regard when she was 25 and had the money to go for artificial insemination, so she did. her being a serial killer is not a very deep thing tbh: she's a slasher as many can be, and like i said as she is inspired by the likes of patrick bateman she essentially started killing because it initially made it easier for her to go through the "ranks" by directly eliminating her rivals. with the years, it became something unnecessary that she kept doing because she liked doing it. hence why in her 40s (at the time of the story) she's still terrorizing her office workers and slaughtering them, despite being the CEO of a high-end investments company.
as for what happens to aiden, it is implied through her profile that indeed an accident happens between her and lucia. i don't want to "spoil" it for the sake of "what-if-i-make-it-a-comic"-isms, but i will say that lucia does indeed die and she does indeed give aiden that permanent injury in the process. as a reminder of whose daughter she is, and her "true nature" (bs like that)
there's definitely more to it as well since it mainly focuses on aiden but i like sometimes thinking about how comically truly twisted lucia is, but it is done on purpose, since i ended up developing her to fall between the lines of a kind of serious, yet also hilariously evil main antagonist. like she's so evil that it's almost ridiculous.
it is important to note, however, that lucia nurtures a twisted but very genuinely motherly love for aiden, even if the injury aiden has later on might make you think otherwise... hard to explain but i love the theme of a twisted mother who is inequivocably evil to everyone but their children, for whom they feel unconditional love and would support them through thick and thin. in her own bizarre, contorted way, this also applies to lucia. the way abuse is relayed onto aiden is less directly malicious than one would imagine (doesn't make it any less fucked up, tho)
i hope this eases some of your curiosities!!!! thank you for being interested :-))))

As seen on my FF.net
Following the events of fifth year, a new adventure awaits for Norah Lee. Boys, exams, school events, common room parties, and old foes outside of Hogwarts. Even battling pensieve guardians was easier than this.
Main Pair: OC/? Genre: Adventure/Angst/Fluff (it's a little of everything, tbh)
KEEP IN MIND: Characters are aged up (even if the story's got them in sixth year) to make it more appropriate. Time period is leaning towards the modern day so in case you might find anachronisms in the dialogue or references, this is why. This may also be quite a lengthy fic too.
BE WARNED: Social anxiety, mentions of blood and injury, grief, drinking, kissing but nothing more than that, death (this is Hogwarts Legacy, after all)
P.P.S: Another terrible attempt at poetry ahead, and introducing Henry Abbott (if we were to link this to the canon, he may be a great great uncle/great great grandfather to Hannah Abbott hee hee). I might do more of these in the coming chapters. It's fun brainstorming another relative to the canon characters.
Masterlist
Chapter 7
It had been a while since Norah had a girls-only hangout with Natty and Poppy. The three of them opted to study together near the kneazle pens, at the spot where Highwing used to drop in. Norah gladly let the hippogriff out to hang around them while she had her time to fly in the open before returning to the vivarium again.
The more there is, the less you see The answer to this riddle is another step to find me Your wit, your banter Most are truly lucky to encounter Indeed like the wife of the famous sleuth The answer to this may reveal some truth Whisper it to a close friend, and remember, The answer also means foreseeing danger.
You will know if you are right, Wait for my note on another night.
Your Nick
"Merlin, this Nick must think I'm as smart as a Ravenclaw," Norah sighed as she read the note over and over again, making the two girls look up from writing their assignments.
Natty and Poppy giggled. "You say that yet you managed to do everything you did in fifth year," The Gryffindor pointed out. "You will figure it out."
"Darkness," Norah blurted out, still staring at the note. "The answer to the riddle is darkness."
The two girls broke out into fits of laughter. "What did I say? I told you!" Natty pointed out, almost looking victorious. "No wonder this Nick admires you. I say he's truly mad for you, and this is his only way of expressing it."
"I've been reading this since last night, so it's taken me a while to figure it out."
"That's so romantic," Poppy swooned. "Can you imagine it? Norah might end up getting a boyfriend from Ronen's assignment."
The thought seemed to make Norah stare at the note even longer, nearly spilling her ink bottle. She didn't even know how she felt about this person. "Easy now, Poppy, it's too soon, don't you think? Ronen just started this assignment," She said with a slight chuckle. "With everything we're doing, I'd rather fight Ranrok again."
Natty somewhat sensed how uncomfortable she had gotten, and patted her on the shoulder. "Poppy's just too enamored with the one who took her name, leaving her love notes and gifts. She was like that during Care of Magical Creatures earlier," She said. "I think she already knows who it is."
Poppy's smile only grew wider as she nodded. "Andrew! It's Andrew Larson!" She said, holding up the yellow card that had her name on it.
"How did you know it was Andrew?" Norah was curious.
"He told me he was going to take my name from the board," Poppy replied.
They stared at her. "Merlin, he must fancy you loads," Norah said. "He was the one who left you bonbons in Herbology, wasn't he?"
Poppy nodded excitedly. They knew of her crush on the Ravenclaw boy since they started hanging out more often. She couldn't admit this to Amit, out of fear that he might tell Andrew, but surprisingly, it seemed like Andrew felt the same way. Norah guessed that if they had gotten around to brewing amortentia, Poppy could only smell things that would remind her of him.
"Who do you think took your name?" Norah rounded on the Gryffindor this time.
It was when a smile crept up on her face, shyness somehow coming over her. "I have a feeling it's that Ravenclaw boy, Henry Abbott," She said, showing her the red and gold card with her name on it.
"Whoa, it seems like two of my friends are fancying Ravenclaw boys," Norah chuckled. "It must be their wit and charm. If Amit didn't become my good friend, I think I would've fancied him too."
Natty shook her head profusely, but Norah could tell that a blush was spreading across her cheeks. "No, no! I don't fancy him! Not at all!" She tried to deny, but the Slytherin girl only gave her a look. "Well, he is rather handsome. He tried his hand at Crossed Wands the other day, and he made it to the second round."
Norah looked impressed. "He must have been fancying you since we took down Harlow in fifth-year," She said. "That's always a story you can brag about. And breaking into that Ashwinder camp."
The blush on Natty's cheeks only seemed to be more evident. "I wonder what my mother would think, me possibly getting a date to the Yule Ball, or possibly a boyfriend. Ronen's assignment ends the day before the house party too. I hope he comes."
"I hope so too. I don't think I've got any classes with Abbott this year," Norah tried to recall, shaking her head when she couldn't. She smiled, amused at how her two friends were gaining romantic attention. She was absolutely happy for them. Poppy with Andrew, Natty with Henry, Amit and Samantha maybe, but what about Sebastian and Ominis? She didn't really get to ask them about their efforts. But did she really want to know? There was a nagging thought at the back of her head that maybe she didn't, but she wanted them to be happy after what they went through in fifth year.
Highwing landed while Poppy and Norah gave her some of the cauldron cakes the Hufflepuff girl took from the kitchens. The white hippogriff happily devoured the cakes while Norah brushed her feathers, the winged beast enjoying the care and attention given to her.
The familiar sinking feeling was coming back again, something Norah felt in waves. There were a lot of things she needed to do, and what she told Professor Weasley still held true. The power she ended up taking in from the repository was filled with the pain and sadness, from everyone Isidora took from. She felt like she was teetering on the edge of being sad and being angry. The grief she felt seemed to only add onto this feeling that grew stronger. It was getting difficult to focus whenever it came.
But with everything that needed to be done for their classes, Norah knew she needed to hold it out a bit longer. She needed to be strong.
They heard a slight commotion coming from the Flying Class lawn. The all-too-familiar setup of Summoner's Court had appeared, making several students who were nearby excited. "Norah! Norah!" Samantha Dale was waving at her to come over.
"Back in the nabsack, Highwing, I'll let you back in the vivarium later," Norah quickly opened the bag, in which the hippogriff happily returned. She sighed, turning to Natty and Poppy. "I wonder who's up for playing this year."
"Ooh! Might we see Nick amongst the crowd?" Poppy grinned as they cleared out their things to approach the platform.
Norah and Natty side-eyed her, shaking their heads in amusement. But the closer they got, the more they, Natty in particular, realized who was up to try their hand at Summoner's Court this year. Henry stepped up, looking as determined as ever next to Leander, who challenged him. "Non-verbal Summoner's Court, the ever-changing game," the redhead declared, to cheers from some of the crowd.
Norah and Poppy started to giggle when they saw Natty get flustered, trying to hide behind them. It was easy to see why Natty, and possibly everyone else, might have fancied Henry.
He was as tall as Leander and had an intelligent looking face. Henry also happened to come from a family of purebloods, which mattered to those who were particular about it. His green eyes shone like emeralds and couldn't even be obscured by the wire-framed glasses he wore and his blonde hair that was tousled in a way that he meant to do so. In short, Henry was seen as one of the most handsome boys in Hogwarts.
"Oh, Henry Abbott finally trying his hand at non-verbal Summoner's Court," Samantha was grinning next to them. "If he gets past Leander, he's got me next, and then Grace, and then Charlotte, and then Professor Ronen," She tilted her head toward Norah. "And then you."
Norah sighed. "Me too? Really?"
"Yes, as the reigning Summoner's Court champion, you're the final opponent Henry faces if he gets past the rest of us and Ronen," Samantha looked proud.
"Then I look forward to being defeated," Norah looked impressed at Henry's turns, as well as Leander's efforts to knock the other balls out non-verbally. "What?" She laughed when Natty nudged her.
"You shouldn't go easy on Henry, just because I like him," The Gryffindor mumbled. "Let him win on his own."
Norah laughed. "Alright, alright, I won't go easy on your summoner," She teased.
Just after she said it, Henry had beaten Leander, whose face was ruddy from experiencing quite a loss in front of a crowd of people. The Ravenclaw managed to spot Natty in the crowd and smiled with a knowing look. "Well then, looks like Abbott's got me to face next," Samantha grinned. "Don't worry Natty, we promise not to go easy on Abbott," She said, making the Gryffindor girl even more flustered.
"Chin up, Leander!" Norah made sure to encourage the redhead, who seemed to be sulking even as Henry shook his hand, showing some sportsmanship. "Congratulations Henry!"
Both boys seemed to wave at her direction before walking off in separate directions. Samantha shot Natty another mischievous look before running off to catch up with her fellow Ravenclaw. "I believe he was inspired by Miss Onai over here to win," Poppy smiled.
"Bloody hell, best believe, I will be there when Nick makes himself known to you, Norah," Natty warned.
-
When free period hit, Norah thought to make another return to the map chamber, wanting to see if what she was thinking would work. Taking the enchanted wand she had made with the pensieve artifacts, she was about to head down to the bell tower when she saw Ominis also on his way, followed by Sebastian.
"Norah?" The blonde suddenly asked. "I heard Henry Abbott's having a go at becoming the new Summoner's Court champion."
Without thinking, she grabbed both of them by their sleeves, taking them by surprise as they followed her out of the common room. There was no better way to let them know what she planned to do than by pulling them along with her. "North tower dungeon, you-know-where," She muttered.
"Alright, alright, I think we got what you mean," Sebastian pulled his arm back, curiously following her, as did Ominis.
"Are we going back there again?" Ominis questioned.
"Yes, there's something I need to try before I can proceed," She said quietly, low enough for them to hear, but not audible enough for anyone else to catch them. "I need you two to be there just in case."
"Just in case of what?" Sebastian was getting concerned, as was Ominis, whose often calm expression changed into that of worry.
"In case I might not make it out? I don't know, but I thought you two, most of all, should know, right?" She said.
"If this is going to get you killed, surely there must be another way," Ominis surprisingly, reached out for her wrist as they went down the stairs leading to the dungeons where the so-called sleeping dragon was. "Norah, please tell me you're not going to get yourself killed."
"I don't think it'll be harmful, but it might take a lot out of me," Norah assured him, patting his hand as they went down the spiral staircase that finally led to the map chamber. She knew to pack a lot of wiggenweld potions in case it would once again be a repeat of fifth year.
It was as if it had only just happened. She was barely holding on when she mustered up the remaining strength she had and delivered the final blow to Ranrok, effectively killing him. With only a drop of wiggenweld potion left on her, she barely made it out of the caverns alive had it not for Professor Sharp and Professor Hecat, who found her and brought her to the hospital wing. Nurse Blainey tended to her wounds in the quiet hospital wing, under the watchful eyes of Sharp and Hecat. Professor Onai also checked on her while she recovered.
"We'll be standing by, ready," Sebastian was the one to assure her this time, when she opened the doors of the map chamber.
The three of them stood on the edge, away from the space that revealed the map of the country, including the four locations of the keeper trials. Norah took out the white wand from her bag and tried to concentrate.
The wand began to emit a light, and to Sebastian's and her amazement, the floor revealing the map further lowered to reveal another set of stairs and the door. "Bloody hell," the freckled brunette muttered, staring at what was in front of him.
"It worked," Norah said, still as amazed. "It's going to work after all," She felt relief. But it wasn't over just yet. "I have to send an owl to Professor Weasley about this."
"So this is what you went to Professor Weasley about, wasn't it?" Sebastian said.
"Yes," Norah admitted. She hated how she could find herself being vulnerable with them. "This power, the ancient magic from the repository down there. It's too much to bear for me. I feel everything, I feel the pain from all the people Isidora Morganach took from. It was wrong of me to use this, to try and build on it without really considering the consequences."
Ominis's expression turned from worry to sad. Sebastian's expression also fell. "I just hope it's not too late to rebuild it. One day, it will be reopened, to people willing to learn about it. I am the living keeper of this magic, and when the time comes that we can reopen it again, knowing what it can bring."
Sebastian tried to wrap his head around what she was saying. But it was also then that he realized how much pressure she was under. Even Ominis was beginning to understand why she felt what she was feeling. The way she had been trying to stay strong until she couldn't, not wanting to be seen as weak because Merlin forbid she disappoint anyone.
Her wand-bearing hand fell to her side as she looked down. "I can't keep this power. I can guard it, but I will not take it upon myself to use it for my own gain," She said quietly. "This is what Professor Fig, Miriam, George, Lodgok, and many others died for."
"Norah," Sebastian said as carefully as possible. "We can never know what it's like to be in your place. Ominis said it when we went to Keenbridge, and I think it bears repeating. Please don't throw yourself into something dangerous without knowing that there are people around you that will help you. You need only ask. You know I'll be there for you."
"We can't carry the burden you may have on your shoulders for you," Ominis chimed in. "But we can help you walk."
That was all she could say about how she was feeling. If she told them that she would never forgive herself if any one of them got seriously hurt. Just as how she couldn't seem to forgive herself for Professor Fig's death. Even Lodgok's death felt like it was her fault. All the more she knew she needed to make things right, even if it seemed to be too late.
When the floor moved back up, covering the door that led to the caverns, Sebastian stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her in a big hug. Ominis put a hand on her back, rubbing circles to sooth her. Sebastian tried to hold back the urge to kiss the side of her head, and instead hugged her a little tighter. He wanted her to know that he would always be there for her, and that he never wanted to see her unhappy or feel like everything was her responsibility.
The three of them quietly left the map chamber, the mood having become a little somber following Norah's explanation. This mood didn't last for very long, and Sebastian's expression changed into that from supportive into slightly annoyed when as they returned to the common room, Violet McDowell handed Norah another letter from Nick.
To Norah Lee,
Tear one off and scratch my head, What once was red is black instead. Answer this riddle to get to me, You've answered my riddles easily. I've always admired this about you, So be assured that my feelings are true. Whisper this to a close friend's ear, You'll never know, that your summoner's near.
You will know if you are right, Wait again tomorrow night.
Your Nick
"A match," Norah replied, pocketing the letter.
"A match? Did he give you another riddle?" Ominis asked.
"Yes he did," Norah said. Turning to Sebastian, she explained what she had been receiving. "But it seems like he's trying to give himself away now that we're getting closer to the end of Ronen's assignment."
"Well, I'm set to meet mine at the party. She said she wouldn't be making herself known on the end of the assignment yet," Sebastian frowned.
"What about you, Ominis?" Norah turned to the blonde.
Ominis shook his head, as if on reflex. "I'm not telling either of you. You'll have to know when I figure out who she may be," He said. "I believe I best be going back to my bed and finish my Transfiguration essay."
He quickly went in the direction of the boys' dormitory, leaving Sebastian and Norah in the common room. "He must be writing to Anne again, isn't he?" Norah smiled
"Perhaps. But I genuinely think he's still got to finish it. We were working on it in the library," Sebastian shrugged. "How are you feeling now?" He asked.
"Better than earlier, thank you," She nodded. Norah went over to the chairs nearest to the windows looking underwater, where Ominis would tease the first-years about mermaids. To their amusement, there were still some first-years on the lookout for mermaids. They soon tried to disperse them gathering, telling them that they wouldn't see some, at least in the part of the lake where their common room was.
"Nerida Roberts can tell you all about the mermaids if you're curious," Norah told them, and they walked away, talking amongst themselves about what she told them. "She'll be the future liason for the mermaids in the ministry soon."
The way Norah managed to get them to disperse and keep their interest was amazing to Sebastian. He had always liked that about her, how she was able to get through to anyone. With what she revealed earlier, Sebastian hoped he could return the favor, and he was determined to be there for her no matter what.

OK I SAID I WAS GONNA TALK ABOUT PHOBSUNDITOR AND I WILL RN!!!
(putting this under a readmore since this might be A LOT!!!)
Ok starting off theres some really interesting contrasts/parallels between each other and in some sort of way they're sorta outliers in some way of godhood
Auditor- Employer, god like being, tied to the Machine, upholding order to the chaos is his purpose. He's dedicated of course but feels some sort of disconnect/boredom with what she does. And of course he still has some sort of interest in mortals, something that most of the employers do not contain. His interest gets to the point where they begin to mimic them, making them the most "human" out of the employers, hence alienating them from the rest of their peers.
Sun- Also a god like being but very much different from the Employers, and lot less tied down to the Machine. Is also the complete opposite of the Employers in how they act and present themselves. And also doesnt contain the immortality they believe to have. Freely indulges in their interest of mortals and is eager to learn and interact with them
Phobos- Not an actual god at all. Really only a god by self proclamation and name. But also very much handles his power like one. Simply a mere mortal but lead a thriving city and project, was trusted by the employers (before well it went downhill.) and was overall a very powerful figure. So in no way are they a mere mortal but not exactly a true god. (and i reallyyyyy like the idea of that really standing out to Sun and her being exicted with what hes doing) (shoutout to my mutual for that one) (And tbh it would also interest Auditor considering he partnered with him) (guy so peciular that he stood out to not one but TWO gods) (what a guy.)
So in a way all of them sorta fall out whats expected of a god and i think thats what kinda brings them together. And tbh this is pretty great for Auditor, he's finally getting some sort of excitement and being content. Being able to indulge in the shared interest of human culture/traditions with Sun and Phobos' impressive character. Finally doing soemthing outside of his job for once.
BUt of course ANGST TIME!!
As we know eventually the Employers and Phobos break off the charter. Phobos is becoming more ignorant and dissenting into madness, fully devoting himself to his goal no matter if it destroys Nevada. Auditor know he has to cut off ties here, he cant choose to stay with Phobos, Auditor has always been tied to the Machine the most, they're the one who's most attached to their purpose, so they end it off there. Now for Sun I think she'd be conflicted here, not sure who to side with as they would be a sorta middle man in here. Sure she was impressed by all of Phobos' work but still has her concerns with how far Phobos is taking this. She just stays very netrual. But in the end Auditor chooses his purpose over the 2 he felt the most closest too and the 3 drift apart.
Bam Phobos death and fall of Nexus City. Auditor and Sun seek each other out during this time, being the ones closest with Phobos. But theres a lot of awkward tension bettween them with how things ended off and are dealing with their grief intenesly. Doesnt help that everywhere they go, some part of Phobos's legacy shows up.
And then bam Sun's death, now both of Auditor's lovers are gone. One who is forgotten by the rest of the world and only really remebered by themselves, and one who can never truly be forgotten, his legacy living on in some sort of way, a constant reminder of what led him to his demise. And I think Auditor sees this as punishment for ever thinking they could dissent from their purpose, for even conisdering at some point choosing something over their intended purpose. And now sitting atop, leading the biggest Agency they've built up and just all alone swallowed in grief and a intense swirl of emotions in reponse to this grief (since silly lil hc that the Employers were not built to actually grief and Auditor only learned to know this feeling due to what happened)

Hello again! I hope your month is good to you. Let's talk about Ao Lie! I often wonder why Amnesic Wukong didn't mention him, other than a spoiler, but then I start to think that maybe Ao Lie's unnoticeability was deliberately cultivated. From what I've gleaned, this guy was punished because he wrecked his house and his father's treasury, especially a pearl gifted from the Jade Emperor himself, though the last one is debatable.
Maybe Ao Lie's home life was like Mei's, surrounded by the legacy of the dragon family name with the pressure to uphold it and its dignity, only, Mei's parents truly love and support her even if they don't understand her, but Ao Lie didn't have that. So the pressure got to him, and he had a mental breakdown and started wrecking shit because he had been avoiding the feeling of suffocating under stress until it exploded. This idea is from a fic but I think the trigger for that started with the pearl from JE.
So when the breakdown died down, this guy was standing amongst the wreckage, and goes "oh I gotta GO" and booked it before anyone important could catch him, and had been in hiding ever since, avoiding his family and their associates. In the s4 special flashback, we see Ao Lie approach the SWK and Trip in dragon form first before shifting back to human form. Maybe at first he thought they were looking for him in behalf of his family?
Anyway, he went with them because he feels that his hiding place might be compromised, and during the whole journey he let himself be overlooked to not draw attention to himself. And this continues after afterwards with him not using the family name and just taking the generic Chinese word for "dragon" instead.
Tldr; Ao Lie chose to be overlooked and almost forgotten because he'd rather have that than being used to prop and show off a name that was suffocating him, and has mad a habit of going under the radar.
This is all speculation and headcanon, of course, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Also some people refer to Mei as "hyperactive voice of reason with a taste for violence" and I give you Ao Lie "chill voice of reason with a taste for arson".
Have a great month! Eat your fruits.
Ayo! I am very tired rn ✌️ physicallay bc had ppl over and washing the dishes post-party sucks
ANYWAY
“chill voice of reason with a taste for arson” <- see, this was why Sun Wukong and Ao Lie were such good friends 💅
ok, I have to admit that my knowledge of the dragon in JTTW is lackluster BUT I will do my best to analyze his lmk version 🫡 tbh when it comes to the jttw companions i base a lot of their characterizations on what their representation is. for example: while I don’t really study lmk!Sun Wukong on his allegorical self, I do take that aspect of him into consideration when examining his character.
so, when it comes to Ao Lie, he was the personification of the Human Will, aka will power! with him being Tripitaka’s horse, he is physically leading the monk to his destination similar to how it is a human’s will power that allows them to carry on and go through the day (or week or year or hour or something). additionally, the horse/dragon only acts when there is no other way. Monkey King is gone bc plot reasons, Pigsy/Zhu Baije was captured, Sandy/Sha Wujing is either also captured or left to find the preoccupied monkey. Tripitaka’s mind has left him, his heart/desires are futile in helping free him from his demons— basically, the monk is at rock bottom with none of his previously helpful companions to aid him….he is alone and left with nothing BUT his will power (dragon horse, aka Ao Lie) to keep going and get out of the rut.
what I’m trying to say is, Ao Lie with the JTTW companions likely only acts when no one else can. it was fun to see Mei and her ancestor clash like that because Mei is so used to acting first and always being there to protect, meanwhile we have Ao Lie who also wants to protect but is more cautious about it. he has definitely been in enough situations to be more conservative on when to use his dragon form and powers.
and yeah, idk i don’t see his aversion for using his powers has anything to do with being caught by his family that he left. I could be remembering wrong, but didn’t his family banish him in the book? idk, I skimmed that part 😅 but uh…..
WHICH LEADS US TO HIS SPECULATIVE BACKSTORY 👀 so yeah, based on the JTTW books, Ao Lie’s character caused a huge scene enough to get him banished and sent to some river, meeting Guanyin who assigned him the role of being one of Tripitaka’s companions. while lmk does hold true to the core and thematic feels of JTTW, it also takes its own spin on certain story events or plots to their own liking (see Red Son’s whole Samadhi Fire backstory that is very different from the book). so I can definitely see lmk having Ao Lie’s home life to reflect Mei’s with distinct contrast (when Mei’s home got trashed in s1 despite it being her responsibility to look after it, her parents sympathized with her and were more focused on their daughter; Ao Lie setting fire to some very important items that his family was responsible for and was banished by HIS parents for being irresponsible)
one thing I am noticing lmk doing with the “reincarnations” of the JTTW companions is that even if they have a strong connection to their “past life” there is still a distinct difference that makes the lmk characters separate from that past. Pigsy and Zhu Baije both love cooking, but Pigsy is more compassionate and selfless, disliking people who are self-centered and a slob. Tang and Tripitaka are both scholars and cowards and damsels in distress (yes they are no one is allowed to fight me), but Tang is no afraid to give into his desires and even criticizes his past self’s ideology.
[i won’t mention Sandy bc I don’t believe he is a reincarnation]
But yeah, it is fascinating to see how the past and future clash in their ideologies. Especially Mei and Ao Lie because their idea of power and protection is similar yet different! Mei would go through any length to save her friends. Ao Lie is aware if his limits and what greater harm he could cause for his friends if he acted like Mei. (I am too tired to get the quotes from the episode but you know the one. How Ao Lie criticizes Mei for getting caught in her recklessness and how rushing in DIDNT help her or her friends.)
basically, I doubt Ao Lie’s in-show reason for being conservative about his powers has to do with him trying to hide from his family that he fled to avoid punishment. I do believe he saved his dragon abilities because of family drama tho. Also, need more parallels between him and Mei because they make me happy :)

Favorite movies and shows i've watched (and finished) in 2022
TBH, This might be one of the best years for films and shows especially fornthe BIPOC community and i'm glad i've had enough time to consume a lot of media this year. In order-is
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Tumblr media
This is a cultural reset. I know multiverse concepts are not new, but this is different and might be the best. The concept coincided with the storyline. The title says it all, it is everything, everywhere all at once. Not just one of the best for 2022, but of all time.
2. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Tumblr media
Felt it with my heart from start to finish. You can really see that all the cast and crew put their heart and soul on it. No need to recast T'challa because Shuri as the new Black Panther is perfect and it won't erase T'challa and Chadwick's legacy. Amazing production and soundtrack.
3. NOPE (2022)
Tumblr media
Jordan Peele did it again. I'm glad i've watched it in the cinema because this is something that would scare more on the big screen. We are not lying when we say that this is a different Alien or UFO story.
4. Abbott Elementary (2021-)
Tumblr media
Quinta Brunson is a genius. This sitcom is fresh and this just proves that you can make a funny content without being problematic. A comedy series that tackles relevant issues. We need more of this.
5. A league of their own (2022-)
Tumblr media
This might be the best, most diverse and intersectional wlw or queer series so far. This and Orange is the new black. Women, lesbian and black-led. Majority of the cast and characters are queer and they don't only focus on queerness alone, but also their dreams, skills, family and friendship.
6. Wendell and Wild (2022)
Tumblr media
One of the best art and animation style i've watched. I like how digestible it is for children. It is fun, enjoyable and doesn't shy away from real issues especially when the specific issue doesn't talked about in art and media, Also, KEY AND PEELE!
7. American Vandal (2017-2018)
Tumblr media
This is better than most of the true crime shows on Netflix. They don't glorify the culprit while not boxing the story from a black and white perspective. Very enjoyable.
8. Ang huling cha-cha ni Anita / Anita's last cha-cha (2013)
Tumblr media
A coming of age film abput a lesbian girl and her first love or crush. Assuring you that this is not creepy at all. This is very wholesome and reminds me of my own childhood and journey into my lesbian identity. It can be watched on Juanflix (Message me if you are outside Philippines)
9. The school for good and evil (2022)
Tumblr media
Not a big fan of fairytale stuff, but this is a very cool concept and i'm a big sucker for great production and costume design. I love the storyline too. It reminds me of Maleficent.
Tumblr media
From left to right
10. I, Tonya (2017)
11. King Richard (2022)
12. Liway (2018)
13. Batwoman (2019-2022)
14. Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)
15. Paper girls (2022)
16. Dollface (2019-2022)
17. Betty (2020-2021)
18. Inside Job (2022)

Hi, I was recently wondering how similar couples JonJay and Clois really are. Like, this is literally practically the same couple, only on different fronts. Even Jay himself, as a character, was in some sense built in the image and likeness of Lois, but my pink-haired boy is still not an American, an honest journalist, but revolutionary and I love him for it. And so, sometimes it seems to me that the future life of Jay and Jon will be similar to the marriage of Lois and Clark. It’s as if they are repeating their fate, or what? (This all sounds very stupid, but yes).Does this make sense or am I crazy?
On a surface level for parallel reasons, yeah, I think JonJay and Clois share a lot of similarities but as you said they differ in some fundamental ways that still marks all four of them as different and you totally are right in catching the parallels. Like they're intentionally there.
I don't think jay's physical design has anything to do with Lois though, sorry Anon I might have to disagree on that but I'd love it if you (or anyone else no pressure) point out in which areas they're similar in character design ^_^!
I'm sorry I actually really enjoy the JonJay and Clois parallels but also how they so clearly are distinct. Jay is consistently working with The Revolutionaries who are considered to be extremists who don't hesitate to kill, his moralities are a lot more flexible than typical Superfamily members. He's more of a team player in terms of getting the job done and prior to Lois's promotion(and tbh even after it), I think Jay is more of the leader type and has this natural ability to lead groups while Lois is more of a one-woman-mission person whose first instinct is going off alone. They also did an interesting flip, where JAY is the famous public figure in the relationship and it's a hero/hero relationship rather than Clois's civilian/ hero one.
They also have very different starts. Lois is American, there's this stability to her identity. Jay comes from a consistently oppressed and colonized country and is first and foremost, a freedom fighter in SOKE. A lot of Jay's fights are his alone and Jon can't touch that, he can only give support. Lois and Clark don't really have that divide and that identity aspect really affects Jay's views on justice and power.
In essence though, Lois and Jay represent the 'truth' part of "Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow." This has always been the case for Lois. In the Lois Lane run by Greg Rucka, she talks about how she delivers the truth despite how terrible or ugly it may be. And Jay literally calls himself that. Jay is Lois's legacy character, much like Jon is Clark's.
Jon and Jay are each taking up the mantles(co-occupying atp) the impact Lois and Clark and are representing what they fundamentally want.
Sorry for going off, I just love JonJay-Clois parallels and I'm glad you brought it up.

Currently thinking about why Elend is my least favorite character
It’s not that I hate him, he’s a perfectly serviceable character. He’s a good man, a good leader, a good soldier, and now a good Mistborn. Which,, hnng. He just lacks depth imo
He did kind of have depth in The Final Empire. When he was introduced as a disheveled nobleman, a scholar and a quiet rebel within his own society. I’ll admit I didn’t love him much then either, but that was more to do with his role in the story lol. I’m a certified Romance Hater in my fiction, so honestly I think Elend was doomed from the start in some respects XD
But by the end of The Well of Ascension, Elend is just,, good at everything. He’s noble, he’s stands up for himself, and now he’s got incredible Mistborn powers to boot. In short, he’s boring!! Incredibly boring! There’s no conflict of personality traits here and I’m mad about it!
Look at Vin, who began as a scared little girl hiding an inner strength. Who is now vicious and blunt and struggles with the weight of the responsibility she’s found herself with. Or Ham, the straightforward soldier who constantly prods at philosophy. Or Sazed, a seemingly quiet scholar with a quick wit and hidden rebelliousness. Breeze claims to be a manipulative bastard, but we know him to be a good msn deep down. Clubs was gnarled and grumpy, but there was a softness to him too, deep down. Dockson was calm and ever practical, but secretly just as insane as everyone else. Kelsier was a dreamer, a laugher, and so incredibly ruthless
I just,, he should have stayed a scholar. The ideas man. Fascinated with unraveling the mysteries the crew finds over the course of the plot, philosophizing with Ham, brilliant and emotionally intelligent and still doesn’t know what a hairbrush is. He’s their dreamer. Their unhinged genius running off of five cups of coffee and no sleep. He comes up with harebrained schemes and Vin goes “yeah I can pull that off” and then she does. That would make him about 500x more interesting in my book, it gives him the personality tension he lacks! He’s the kind of character who should be poised and well spoken, and instead his veins are made of caffeine, his hair is a mess, and it’s a small miracle his sentences are coherent
You could even still let him have Mistborn powers, if you really wanted too. Let Vin take the focus on iron and steel, the first things Kelsier taught her. Then let Elend do the emotional stuff. Taking the edge off the idea that his plans are utterly insane, and encouraging a little bit more reckless confidence in the crew. Kelsier might be gone, but he left a legacy in the two people he saved. Vin is his skill in allomancy, his power, his recklessness, his love. Elend is his dreams, his plans, his ability to engage a crowd. She’s got practical street smarts, he’s book smart. He says “my research says X is sound” and she says “okay” and filters it through a layer of practical experience on the streets so it can be pulled off.
Also axe relationship with Vin. Just let them be ride or die besties! Siblings! Platonic soulmates! Two peas in a pod, but not in love. They’d be way more interesting that way imo and tbh Vin needs regular friends her own age lol

What are your fave House Velaryon headcanons? or some things you wish to see in the books?
Ohmygod, I keep forgetting to answer this ask.
I have A LOT of favourite headcanons, some are extrapolated from canon and others are just things I want to be true. Tbh, some of these ideas I’ve thought about for too long, in this past decade of being a house Velaryon fan, so you might have to do some mental gymnastics to keep up. 😂😂
- House Velaryon was founded by a bastard. This the ultimate truth to me. Bastardy is so deeply ingrained into their family tree, with 8 bastards being associated with them (so far!), that if the family founder turns out to be anything but a bastard, I will be both surprised and disappointed.
- Speaking of the family founder, this person was a twin. Both Alyn & Laena have twins, and these two are integral to the theme of family legacy that’s relevant to house Velaryon, so I feel that it should apply to the og Velaryon as well. Either a twin or had twin children.
- Regarding this twin sibling, that person founded house Lowther in the Reach. Their house colours completely match house Velaryon + sea themed sigil (dolphin). Of Laena’s twins, Baela resided at Driftmark in the Crownlands but Rhaena went to the Reach. Of Alyn’s twins, we don’t know what happened to Jeyne (my guess is she relocated to the Reach) but Jon founded a new house in the Crownlands. Since GRRM has a tendency to “recycle” the core details for these Westerosi families, I’m just combining these ideas to come to this conclusion.
- There is a whole venn diagram that exists only in my mind of the narrative parallels in the relationships between Corlys/Daemon/Alyn & the various women in their lives. It’s all connected. GRRM told me so himself.
- The Velaryon seat was said to be given to them by the Merling King. As far as I’m concerned, the og Velaryon either fucked the Merling King, a child of the Merling King, or is a child of the Merling King. Any of these scenarios is okay with me.
- Speaking of the Merling King, he is said to have green hair. So I like to imagine that some Velaryons, along with other people living around the Narrow Sea, have a tendency to dye their hair green to some degree.
- All Velaryons have ear piercings. It’s a rite of passage in the family to do this. I love this headcanon because sailors in the real world were also known for piercing their ears.
- Monford’s wife is a lady of house Celtigar. So Ardrian Celtigar is actually his father in law. 🦀
- Alyssa & Daemon had a contentious sibling relationship.
- All of Corlys’ children are lgbt. 🤗
- Alyn died/went missing after he ventured into the Shivering Sea (the one place even Corlys dared not visit).
- Addam didn’t actually die at Tumbleton. That was just a lie Benji told the world. Instead, Addam was at the Isle of Faces for those 8 years his body was missing.
- Going off the official art, Alyn originally had short hair but then started growing it out longer. Whereas, Addam has hair below shoulder length. So I like to believe that Alyn grew his hair long in memory of his brother.
- Daemon was married to a Corbray and his son, Corwyn, was married to a Blackwood.
- Aurane is going to fight Euron in a sea battle in TWOW. This is the reason why GRRM never went through with the Alyn vs Dalton battle, in Fire & Blood, since their descendants are meant to fulfill that.
- Alyn’s flagship for the Second Conquest of Dorne is named for Daenaera (since she is the mother of Daeron the Young Dragon).
- The last of Alyn’s 6 flagships was named for Princess Elaena.
- Laena (daughter of Alyn) is the namesake of Laena Penrose (daughter of Elaena).
- This Laena became the future Lady of Driftmark after her brother(s) died (see below) and also raised her half-siblings, Jon & Jeyne.
- The second child born to Alyn & Baela was a boy and he was named after Corlys. He eventually dies without leaving behind any children (unlike the man he was named for who was very concerned with having descendants).
- Alyn & Baela named their youngest son Addam (after his uncle 🥰). This Addam died in the Second Conquest of Dorne just like the og Addam died in the Second Battle of Tumbleton.
- Alyn’s bastard son with Elaena was named Jon for his maternal grandfather (just like Alyn wanted to name his son with Baela after his paternal grandfather, Corlys). And then Jon’s twin sister is named Jeyne to match.
- House Velaryon supported Daemon Blackfyre.
