Le temps des cathédrales
On my birthday (August 3rd), I went to see Notre-Dame-de-Paris with my mom and sister at la Place des arts. As someone who's been listening to it since 1998 (and read the novel later), it truly felt like I've missed out on seeing it live, especially since I saw the biggest France/Québec musicals from the early 2000s when they came out (namely, Roméo et Juliette, Don Juan and Dracula), as well as Starmania (not when it came out, obviously). Even though the current Notre-Dame-de-Paris show isn't with the original cast (except for Daniel Lavoie!), it was really amazing.
Of course, me being me, I did a themed outfit.
Outfit rundown Dress: second-hand Moi-même-Moitié Bustier: second-hand Victorian Maiden Blouse: La petite garçonne Bag: second-hand Moi-même-Moitié Shoes: Yosuke Headdress: handmade by me Jewellery: mix of vintage, Design Festa, second-hand Moi-même-Moitié and thrifted

you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.

Today's #YearOfHours, @freelibraryofphiladelphia Lewis E 212 is a book of hours, use of Rome, ca. 1475. The large miniatures are by an artist likely trained in Paris, while the smaller ones are by an artist in the style of Tours

🃏💙 Clopin Trouillefou 💛🃏
Everyone, as a child, had a cartoon character they could call a kindred spirit. I had the gypsy narrator of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The "Jester" and "The Hanged Man" tarot cards, revealing the duality of nature, helped me realize my idea. A little about the drawing: on the sides there were stained glass windows with the iconic symbols of the hero, a framing of the lyrics with the date of the book of the same name, the value of the card when turning to 6 and 9, and a gradient from the morning Fool's Feast to a nighttime incident in the Court of Miracles. The following is more about why I chose these arcana
"The Jester"
He is a messenger of chaos, committing actions that do not obey the general rules of conduct, puts the essence of the game. Inscrutable in its impermanence, whims and fancies. With everyone and no one at the same time, which makes him a crowd favorite. His motley, two-tone clothing suggests he exists on the border between the world of reality and fantasy. Is he aware of his loneliness or does he find it easy to be alone, devoting his life entirely to the service of others? This is one of his bright, attractive and public traits. What about the dark side?
"The Hanged Man"
Finds himself in a state of hovering, torn between male material and female spiritual energies. The craving for creative fulfillment (acting, singing) coupled with concern for the vulnerable segments of society (the leader of the Gypsy clan) does not give free time for spiritual growth, turning him into a victim of circumstances. On the other hand, the desire to be an executioner for outsiders turns into a noose around his neck from real justice. You never know who is ready to come to you with what intentions. Knowing how to trust people should come in handy at least once
To summarize the above, I'm pretty damn attracted to the ambiguity of human beings. After all, to some you are an escape from boredom and trouble, to others you are a thug and a parasite of society. Throwing the soul from the responsibilities of survival to creative fulfillment as a chance to be free.
I am madly happy to take part in a cool project, thanks to it I looked deeper inside myself, finding unexpected answers to questions that have been troubling me for a long time ¡

The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Esmeralda —Aesthetic
Tumblr media
Esmeralda's Character & Personality
Esmeralda is a young Romani Gypsy woman who's eloquent, street-wise, cunning, positive, moral and intelligent. She's also an outspoken humanitarian. Due to this, Esmeralda is often the target of arrest. Despite the odds against her, she's able to outsmart and evade it on numerous occasions. Regardless of the tyranny, Esmeralda isn't one to sacrifice her freedom to placate anyone. Knowing her worth, she'll remain fiercely defiant and refuse to degrade herself by surrendering. Aside from her fiery nature, Esmeralda is ultimately a kind, loving and selfless soul. Although she seems to be a sultry and free-spirited person, she does care about God and religion. However, Esmeralda isn't a fanatic. She doesn't descend into a personal crisis when falling in love. Unfortunately, Esmeralda isn't totally convinced of His existence or presence, but still hopes to be heard.
