USAmerican medical shows: Gladys, age 60, has peepeepoopoo disease where she will die if she comes into contact with white chocolate. Her hospital room is on fire. Watching a medical drama and the main male character is presented with several potential love interests, the show has 8 seasons and this is not a question of which one he will end up with but in which order he will go through them

Have you ever watched medical tv shows like House, Scrubs, General Hospital, etc.? Have you even watched anime involving medical stuff as well? If so, what did you think of them?

On Medical Shows and Surgeon Simulator
Usually, I don't watch a lot of medical shows but I've always loved Scrubs. I've also developed a greater appreciation for the first couple of seasons of ER. Among all the medical shows out there, though, I would say that Scrubs is the most accurate to actually working in a hospital. This is due to all the work relationships that are display there. Everyone who has worked in a hospital knows Dr. Cox, Dr. Kelso, Carla, the Janitor, etc.
As for Surgeon Simulator, I've seen people play it but I have yet to play it myself. Maybe when the game goes on sale early next month, I'll get it and revisit this part of the ask.

Favorite New Anime Summer 2022: Parallel World Pharmacy
Tumblr media
I absolutely love cozy, slice of life anime, so it's no surprise that the isekai Parallel World Pharmacy would fast become a new favorite.
A young, dedicated man researching a cure for cancer dies one day due to overwork. He wakes up in the body of a 10 year old boy named Pharma in a parallel world similar to 18th century france. He learns that Pharma was the son of one of the world's leading doctors, and that he can control "Divine Arts" which help him diagnose and treat patients. Through perseverance, friendship, luck, and a little bit of magic, Pharma opens a pharmacy in this world in hopes of bringing new medical knowledge and creating a place where commoners and nobles alike receive equal treatment.
The design is gorgeous, with many of the costumes and sets heavily influenced by 18th and 19th century Europe. Each episode covers a new challenge for Pharma as he learns to navigate this new world. What sets this apart from other isekai is that we get to see Pharma adjust to his new world and bring his talents to it, while also getting what is essentially a medical drama.
If you enjoyed Ascendance of a Bookworm or Dr. Ramune Mysterious Disease Specialist, lighthearted and sincere anime or medical shows, I definitely recommend Parallel World Pharmacy!

Watching medical shows is turning out to be a not great idea as someone with chronic pain and mental illness. I'm watching things like the resident and house and just thinking if I have a catastrophe that lands me in the hospital, I will be fixed. In the first 10 ep of the resident, they diagnose and help someone with chronic pain of unknown origins. In House, they do it all the time, a lot of who house helps are people who have unknown chronic pain/illnesses. So I watch these and kinda just silently think I could end up in the hospital 👀

Currently burning my brain on medical TV shows and I have to say: Miami Medical was fine. No, seriously, it was fine. There's some real bad shows out there. Miami Medical delivered. Weird cases but not too out there to be unbelievable. Engaging characters without being too much in each others pants (to the point of being ridiculous: I see you, Grey's Anatomy).
I think the only reason it didn't catch on was because the market was overflowing with medical shows by then. And also, Regina Mills was just around the corner, about to be majestic AF.

do you ever watch a few shows from a similar genre and one of them is clearly better but there's less of it and then you're watching the other one and think "man I miss the other show :("

One of my biggest nitpicks in fiction concerns the feeding of babies. Mothers dying during/shortly after childbirth or the baby being separated form the mother shortly after birth is pretty common in fiction. It is/was also common enough in real life, which is why I think a lot of writers/readers don't think too hard about this. however. Historically, the only reason the vast majority of babies survived being separated from their mother was because there was at least one other woman around to breastfeed them. Before modern formula, yes, people did use other substitutes, but they were rarely, if ever, nutritionally sufficient.
Newborns can't eat adult food. They can't really survive on animal milk. If your story takes place in a world before/without formula, a baby separated from its mother is going to either be nursed by someone else, or starve.
It doesn't have to be a huge plot point, but idk at least don't explicitly describe the situation as excluding the possibility of a wetnurse. "The father or the great grandmother or the neighbor man or the older sibling took and raised the baby completely alone in a cave for a year." Nope. That baby is dead I'm sorry. "The baby was kidnapped shortly after birth by a wizard and hidden away in a secret tower" um quick question was the wizard lactating? "The mother refused to see or touch her child after birth so the baby was left to the care of the ailing grandfather" the grandfather who made the necessary arrangements with women in the neighborhood, right? right? OR THAT GREAT OFFENDER "A newborn baby was left on the doorstep and they brought it in and took care of it no issues" What Are You Going to Feed That Baby. Hello?
Like. It's not impossible, but arrangements are going to have to be made. There are some logistics.

Insane to me how no matter how many times there's a show or movie that cpr has to be performed, it's so bad. I understand that they can't actually perform real cpr on these people cause they break a rib, but why even continue to write cpr scenes into TV and movies. Like, if you only show the person doing the cpr, ok, but like you really show the person laying on the ground hardly moving. It's just so funny to me how bad it looks every time.
