This by the way is why I don’t love the term “risk aware consensual kink.”
Like I don’t think anyone who uses it is unsafe or bad, and I’m not gonna refuse to deal with somebody because they like that term. I just can’t parse it.
A young woman who enters into a master slave TPE with an older gentleman who has a lot of clout in the community (kink or larger or both) is likely AWARE that it’s possible he can use the idea of total control to abuse her without repercussions.
But does she expect it? Probably not. Or she’d pick someone else.
“Aware” means nothing. It’s whether you accurately assess the risk, and whether you are of sound mind when you choose a high risk.
Aware ain’t shit.
It also troubles me when people say they don’t use the expression safe sane and consensual because they’re not sane.
Like dude, sane doesn’t mean not mentally ill. It means aware enough of what’s going on to take responsibility. If you’re telling me you’re “not sane” and also that you want to top me, the hell exactly is supposed to make me think you’re ready to do a scene with me?
I know it’s just me nitpicking but it’s never quite sat well with me.
Like I get the vibe that people are so intense about the (correct) idea that mentally ill people should be able to do things that they’re (hopefully inadvertently!) pole vaulting into saying “I don’t even have to have a conversation with you about how my mental health affects when we should and should not play. I just need to inform you I’m sick, so you’re Aware.”
And I’m like.
What. Why this.

Why isn’t there a difference in getting 4, 14, and 8 hours of sleep? I feel like I should feel rested at some point, but I’m still tired

i don’t care who you are. you will not get me to prefer “dewy clean girl” makeup over my “2015 grunge matte” makeup.
it’s just soooo much better (for me).

It’s been pointed out that during the end scene, fourteens waistcoat is completely undone, showing his inner layers - it had been done up by one struggling button before this… because fourteen was hanging on by a thread… now he can let go and open up

I kept thinking of little baby man Phantom and the potential of Danny being an actual baby of the Infinite Realms. However, he’s more snake teenager than itty bitty Little Baby Man edition, cause I think it’d be so funny to just — imagine this teenage snake curled up in a summoning circle, obviously having been taking a nap and looking up with his big green, sleepy eyes and Constantine just stares and freaks because, “THATS A WHOLE ASS BABY, PUT IT BACK!”
But they can’t because apparently the summoning was more of a ‘knock knock I’m a babysitter’ and Danny’s ghost parent decided that this was the perfect time to have some time for themselves if Heroes were so willing to take care of Danny for a little while.
Another take — mainly in reference to a different post about Klarion actually just being a toddler of the infinite realms with no ideas on how to human and thinks him fighting with heroes is just a play date — zooms into the human realm where the heroes are and just goes, “Hey I’m dropping my baby sibling onto you guys cause my dad got mad last time Danny got hurt by the humans I hang with. So here you go, I’ll pick him up later.”
A teenage snake Danny is dropped into a hero’s arms where he mainly grumbles and then shifts to better take a nap. Klarion drops the baby essentials at them with no further explanations other then “here’s their favorite blanket, if they get fussy taco them; here’s the baby milk make sure it’s -200 F, they have an ice core, etc.” and then just DISAPPEARS after leaving what amounts to a month old infant in human heroes care.

the weirdest thing about the general astarion discourse in the bg3 fandom is that he does actually suck. and astarion fans seem to forget this all the time but he sucks ass. he’s a shitty guy. he’s lame and a loser and rude and kind of stupid and a bad person if you let him get away with it. that’s why i like him.
maybe it’s the blorbo glasses that make people forget about it or maybe it’s the infantilization of grown adults who’ve been traumatized but i see so much fighting about him that boils down to “he’s a shitty person!”/“no he isn’t, he was tortured for 200 years!”. and the answer is that he was a shitty person, got beaten half to death, and then got tortured for 200 years. he sucks and is also a victim. can we fight about something more interesting please.

Writing Accessibility PSA
Please avoid using long strings of characters as line breaks in your writing - these are not screen reader/TTS friendly!
Every ‘°’ will be read as ‘degree’ - can you imagine how long it takes to read out a string of 25? Let alone more complicated combinations of characters (eg. imagine listening to TTS read out ~*~ |°| ~*~ multiple times per line break)?
A good rule of thumb is to stick with short, 2-3 character line breaks (eg. I don’t find — or *** too egregious to listen to). Your readers can tell there’s been a scene change whether you use two or twenty em-dashes, but if you use twenty, some of us might have to listen for 30 seconds to read the next scene. If you’re more concerned about aesthetics, you can insert an image of your aesthetically pleasing line break with alt text simply reading ‘line break’ for accessibility.
Don’t feel bad if this is something you’ve never thought about before - now you know better and can make your writing more accessible moving forward!
I would like to invite any other screenreader users to add their own thoughts or preferences to this post. We’re not a monolith and there’s a variety to how different softwares interact with repeating character strings and images with alt text, so there’s bound to be some conflicting opinions on what I’ve suggested above. Let’s try to make the stories we share accessible for everyone :]
