hii i was just wondering when you were going to update make way for ducklings

Hello! I am hoping to have a new chapter up either tonight or tomorrow! It is currently in the works and going through a few minor (that knowing me could become major) rewrites! Poor Fictional!Matty just really seems to make things difficult for himself (and me apparently!) Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoy the new chapter once it's up!

Hello, I hope this isn't considered offensive (I'm old enough that I'm kinda out of touch with what things are acceptable to ask vs what is not nowadays). For your mpreg!Matty Fic, is Matty trans or is it an AU where anyone male/female can be pregnant? I was curious after reading the line where Matty said he missed his cycle. Again sorry if this is an unacceptable question.

Hi! Thank you so much for reading and for reaching out! I hope I can answer this in a satisfactory way that also doesn't come across as offensive, I know this is a delicate subject. I do not see my version of mpreg!Matty as being transgender, and I do not personally feel equipped to fully explore that topic as a cis woman. HOWEVER if that is how you choose to read it more power to you, and I hope I can be the best ally that I can be, and if anything comes off as offensive, please, please let me know because that is never my intention.

In terms of my own little mpreg world that I have mentally created: time for story time! Back in the day, little Baby Ally was assigned a book to read for her high school English class. This book was called The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. The Left Hand of Darkness is still to this day one of my very favorite books and now that I'm thinking about it again, I think i will need to do another reread. It's a science fiction (feminist) novel where the main character travels to a planet where the people are all ambisexual meaning they do not have a fixed sex/gender. Within the novel the King, both sires and bears children. A whole lot of other things happen that are a lot more important, BUT little Baby Ally took that concept of pregnancy and ran with it and here we are, still running with it even more than ten years later.

Basically, that was a very long winded version of me saying that yes, in my little world that I have created that I made the rules for certain members of the population, regardless of if they are typically considered male or female can get pregnant (I don't have an actual name for them, but just they can carry children). Fictional Matty is one of those people, and can carry children. Fictional Matty is also a hot mess and not very responsible with his birth control and now here he is, having a fictional child.

I hope that answered your question!! I'm sorry it's so long, and rambling, and I really hope that I didn't offend anyone! I've always had a lot of feelings about The Left Hand of Darkness and how it has influenced / inspired most of my mpreg fics (because now that I think about it I've actually written a few?) You posted!! I love Ross comforting Matty for what he thinks he needs comforting for but really Matty is combusting from the inside out. I'm on the edge of my seat for when shit really hits the fan, but I love these insights into it.

The turmoil Matty is in, I'm living for it. (I probably should feel bad, but hey.)

I'm excited for the next part!

Yesss!! I'm sorry it took so much longer than anticipated 😫 Making fictional Matty suffer is one of my favorite pass times... so he will be suffering a lot more don't worry, he just... can't get out of his own way in this one. He is really going through it though- he's still in the early stages of his recovery, he's trying to quit smoking, he's on tour, George and him have all their unresolved issues and he's extremely hormonal... which means he is going to be inadvertently making it worse for himself before it gets better.

I had so much fun writing a Ross and Matty moment- we have to give Ross a little more credit though, he's the only one NOT being awkward around Matty at the moment, meaning he's more likely to notice things and piece stuff together 😏 Matty is also not as slick or as subtle as he thinks he is, and as established... he only has one good hiding spot. 🙈

Thank you so much for reading and being super cool and chatting with me and all that jazz! I'm going to California this weekend, so I'm not even going to pretend to make any promises about getting another chapter out before that 😂

Chapter 11 hurt me (so good). It's late and I'm tired but I HAD to read it ASAP because this fic is becoming one of my favourite things ever. The bit about him hiding the ultrasound print out in the lining of his suitcase where he used to hide drugs... 🥺

This chapter went through many rewrites, originally it was a Matty and George confrontation moment on the couch, but it just wasn’t working and I was like you know who we need more of? Who is PREPARED for this moment? Ross. And I’m actually surprisingly happy with how it ended up!

Matty hiding his ultra sound photos in the lining of his suitcase where he used to hide drugs was one of my favorite parts and one of my favorite bits I’ve written for this fic! I just also thought it was very on brand- he has ONE good hiding spot and he is going to make use of it! (I just wonder if others ALSO remember that this was his one good hiding spot…)

the “what if I hurt it?” moment in the new make way for ducklings chapter ruined me ;( but he seems to be more comfortable talking about it! love love love love your story 🩵

Matty is full send ready to be this baby's parent even if he has absolutely no idea what he is doing and is absolutely terrified that he is going to be (and kind of already is) actually responsible for someone else (he's barely even responsible for HIMSELF.) It's like Real Matty said in that one interview that inspired this whole thing "having a baby might sort him out."

However, he is for sure having an easier time talking about it with someone whose one job is to make sure his baby is healthy and that they are going to be okay. There isn't any judgement there or any preconceived notions like with Jamie and the guys. To the doctor he is just another pregnant patient, she didn't have a front row seat to all his baggage the way everyone else did / does.

I'm so happy that you're enjoying this fic and thank you so much for reaching out! I hope you continue to enjoy it and that I'll be able to get another update out sooner rather than later 🥰 Thank you so, so, so much for your kind words!

Yay!! I'm so happy you liked the update! It wasn't something that was in my original outline, but as I started writing I was like "wait, the guys would 100% have opinions on Matty announcing he was quitting smoking seemingly out of the blue"

Regardless, Matty is trying his best okay 😂 It's just very unfortunate that his best isn't all that great when it comes to lying and that Ross is very observant. Luckily, Ross is ready to play the long game and patiently wait for Matty to confide in him- at least for the time being! Hopefully Matty will be able to pass off any physical changes as a side effect of his sobriety 👀

Finally caught up on Make Way for Ducklings and the Matty and George scene broke my heart (George putting his hand on Matty’s stomach 😭😭)! I need more of them interacting! I’m sure it won’t happen for a bit but I can’t wait until Matty finally tells him.
