I’ve always found it interesting that of the lowborn/bastard women in the DotD, Marilda is the only one who doesn’t get slandered and insulted in the Westerosi history books.
Speaking specifically about the women who were rumored to have had affairs with noblemen, the women (Sara Snow/Alys Rivers/Nettles) in particular get derogatory descriptions for various reasons. The men they are linked to all either die or are unable to do anything about the rumors (Sara: her rumored lover Jace dies and her brother Cregan is far away in the North when those rumors become a thing in the South years later/Alys: her rumored lover Aemond dies and her son is obviously too young to do anything about the insults people are saying about his mother/Nettles: her rumored lover Daemon dies). Regardless of whether any of the rumors were true or not, it's still the women in the relationships who were described in a negative manner. Even men like Aemond or Daemon don't get as slandered, despite their more controversial actions.
Sara may or may not have existed (the fact that her existence alone is doubted speaks for itself) but in the history books she is described as an "unwashed" bastard. Even the fact she was a virgin at the time of her affair with Jace is called into question. Alys gets descriptors like "slattern" and "cow". She is reviled as a seductress and witch who would sacrifice her own children. Nettles gets insulted as well, both by characters around her and the maesters/septons recording the histories. Beyond the classism, there is also a racial angle to the insults with her skin colour always being at the forefront when she gets called "dirty" and "creature". It’s unfortunate but Westerosi society is unfair to women, especially those of a lower social class, and so they do often have to rely on the men in their lives, whether that’s a male lover/husband, their father, brother(s) or son(s) as a source of protection. Characters like Sara/Alys/Nettles don't get that protection.
Then you get to Marilda's descriptions in the book, and it's completely clean. Not a single insult is uttered against her despite her supposed involvement with two different Velaryon men. Whether her affair was with Corlys or Laenor, it occurred at the time when they were married men. Laenor is dead by the time when he's claimed to be the father of Marilda's sons. But Corlys is alive and well. Not to mention, he's a very well respected figure in Westerosi society. That being said, I can’t see Corlys doing any major PR control here since he does not have the means to do so.
Alyn, however, could ensure his mother did not get negative remarks. He's the one said to have fostered close ties to the Citadel and a positive relationship with the Faith. On more than one occasion, he was anointed by the High Septon himself, which is something that's typically reserved for the King or his Kingsguard. So I think Alyn might’ve used that influence to his favor.
While Alyn does seem like the type who doesn’t care much about what others think of him, he clearly respects his mother so I doubt he would want her to have a bad reputation. Even concerning the rumors of Alyn's potential affairs, the maesters are somewhat dismissive about them and call the rumors "unreliable". They don't give much credence to what third parties are saying on such matters. As for Alyn's mother, she is spoken of with nothing but respect and even flattery at times.
History is truly written by the victors.

CHAPTER ONE ; 1/3
TRANSCRIPT:
[sounds of swords clashing and rowdy cheering]
geordie: Your highness, apologies for the intrusion, but her majesty has asked me to remind you of the time.
killian: [panting] The time? And what exactly is the time?
g: Half past noon.
k: So she wished to inform me of my tardiness. Thank you, Geordie. I will be with you shortly.
---
k: Am I the only late one?
g: I am afraid so. Even the princess arrived promptly.
k: Drat. Dara will never let me live it down. The one time I lose track of the hour…
g: No matter, your highness. Soon you will be Knight Captain and have plenty of excuses for tardiness.
k: I sincerely hope not. I am perfectly satisfied with my rank.
---
luca: There you are, at last.
k: Apologies, apologies. What did I miss?

Do you think if Izuku was a girl Bakudeku would have been seen cannon from day one? I mean Bakugo seems to also have all the tropes of a female romantic love interest in Shonen and the reason why many don't think Bakugo's feelings towards Deku are of a romantic nature is because Deku is a boy. Here's to Bakudeku becoming cannon <3
If the story managed to miraculously stay the exact same story with the only difference being Katsuki is a girl (coz let’s face it, he was the princess being abducted by LOV and held so protectively by Izuku in the Vol 37 cover), then yes. Everyone would be bkdk and all other ships would seem delusional, the way Izuochas/other fans think we are. It’s just ‘cause it’s happening between two guys that people stop caring about the moments that develop or hint at their romance. And this is something Hori wants to change.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed this but Hori represents BkDk in a super wholesome way without many traces of sexual desire. Because he wanted shounen readers to see their love as something real and beautiful, and not being made just for the sake of BL or fetish.
Though tbf, he has occasionally depicted Kacchan as ikemen, maybe to help us imagine Izuku’s struggle to hold back his feelings for him.
Tumblr media
Kacchan is gorgeous, and yet his combative personality has scared away girls his whole life. And here we have Izuku always having accepted him for who he is and never distancing himself from him despite the many attempts by Kacchan to reject and send him away!
But anyway, Hori focussed so heavily on the emotions they feel towards each other because he wants readers to look at pure romantic love between a boy and another boy and understand it has no difference whatsoever with the love between a girl and a boy.
Tumblr media
This also might be another reason why baby Decchan memories come up sometimes with Kacchan’s POV, or why Noguchi drew so many pictures of their childhood.
Tumblr media
Because Katsuki and Izuku seem to be each other’s first love, and while feelings grew rotten for a while, the deep love they have for each other now comes from an incredibly sweet and pure origin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How Hori is gonna pull this off really has my interest now because he has written bkdk so beautifully up until this point, so I have high expectations for his future plans to bring them together.
Update: I just wanted to add that my heart is so full right now from the KiriMina/BkDk parallels in ch.383. Canon BkDk really is coming right at us and it feels like Hori is going to bombard doubters with reminders of their love until they practically beg Hori to end their misery, and just draw what he has been waiting to draw for so many years, lol. 😊

I love that the irony of Aemond and Alicent is that they kind of parallel each other.
Parentified eldest daughter and parentified eldest daughter (in vibes, ok? he's totally eldest daughter in vibes).
Supports and gives everything (Ali; her youth, body, and time. Aemond; the throne, his mother's love, and helaena ig, kinda, in a helaemond way) to a man (Viserys, Aegon) that doesn't appreciate it.
And then getting into a relationship with a lover far older than you (Viserys, Alys), that is toxic, or maybe not toxic, but definitely dark.
It's like he's just following in her footsteps and I'm not even sure he knows.

I finally finished playing thru all the different endings in cyberpunk 2077 and I would just like to say that my V would never treat her s/os, Vik, Mama Welles, and Misty the way the game makes her treat them in The Sun ending. My V would absolutely feel responsible for the people that Jackie left behind and would feel obligated to take care of them in his absence. And for her s/os, it genuinely just does not make sense to me why V would push her partners away after having experienced first hand from Johnny what that does to people.

Favorite trope is V Lowkey becoming Kerry’s bodyguard without Kerry even asking. He doesn’t realize it until he’s being hounded by the paparazzi and V has somehow gotten himself between Kerry and cameras and is gently pushing him along. He doesn’t mention it until things start coming out about Kerry Eurodyne’s new ‘plaything’ and he’s like “you do realize you’ve essentially become my bodyguard right?” And V is like “???I was protecting you?? That’s my job??? I’m your mainline what the fuck are you on?” And Kerry melts

*Opening chords of Fortunate Son playing softly in the background*
A few polls ago, I mentioned that the song list I was using was not the one originally published in Billboard Magazine during that year. This is another one of those cases. If you read through the magazine, you'll find California Dreamin' listed as the number 1 song of the year. However, the data has since been updated and Billboard's website (and other up-to-date publications) list The Ballad of the Green Berets as the number 1 song in 1966. Every place I looked has given me frustratingly vague reasons for this difference. Since my threshold for research ends at the point where I have to start contacting people, I decided to leave this up to my (un)educated guess and assume the magazine was published before all the data for the year could be collected. Maybe, as America's involvement in the Vietnam War skyrocketed this year, more people were flocking to TBoTGB.
However I feel about the song (I try to keep these blurbs free of my actual opinions when it comes to the songs listed), it gives me an opportunity to talk about Vietnam War era music. When I imagine this era in music, I mostly think of protest songs or basically just the Full Metal Jacket soundtrack. Often, this is in contrast to the music about "the war" my generation got. To people like me who grew up watching The [Dixie] Chicks backlash and the fire-hose blast of patriotic pro-war songs, the Vietnam War era of popular music truly feels like another era in more ways than the obvious. So why is the number 1 song in the country one of the few "pro-Vietnam War" songs from the time?
I was able to talk to my folks about this era, and keep in mind that they're pretty left-leaning so that's the angle I'm coming at this from. They talked about listening to Walter Cronkite read the death counts on CBS. My dad said that after the draft was kicked into high gear, it felt like the government was just "throwing bodies" at the war effort. Middle America no longer had the luxury of distancing themselves from the war. With the draft and the footage being broadcasted into people's living rooms, there wasn't even the pastiche of "glory". But my dad also said that when he was in school, his teacher would have the kids sing Ballad of the Green Berets in class.
It sounds like I'm spending too long talking about the context behind one song, but that's because I can't think about anything else other than the war. Because the people back then couldn't think about anything else. Even if songs weren't explicitly about "the war", it didn't take much for them to be recontextualized. Another song on this poll, The Monkees' Last Train to Clarksville, didn't sound like it was about the war to me. But if you're in 1966 and you're worried about you or your friends and loved ones getting drafted, and you hear a song with the lyrics "We'll have one more night together" and "I don't know if I'm ever coming home", it's going to strike a different note. And thus, Last Train to Clarksville is still listed in Vietnam War Music compilations to this day.
I try not to be too long-winded when writing these. And even when I do go off for too long, I'm still aware that I'm giving barely a surface level summary of what I'm talking about. All of the songs I list in these polls could be the subject of their own documentaries in my opinion, and the music of the Vietnam War could be its own documentary series. But the war is something that will continue to loom over pop culture, and I'd thought I'd mention it during the poll that has an actual decorated soldier on the banner. Unlike the people at the time, we'll be able to put the war out of our minds until it comes up explicitly again.

5, 20, 32 for Villiam 💙
OC Ask Game - Villiam Bryant
Tumblr media
5 - Are they religious or spiritual in any way? No. Villiam hates anything like that with a passion, but he's way too nice to speak his mind, though. Misty loooves to tease him.
Tumblr media
20 - Where do they currently live? Describe their home. In 2077 Villiam lives in the vanilla apartment in Japantown. He wouldn't know a nice piece of furniture if it fell on his head. He has no artistic sense whatsoever. Imagine the vanilla apartment but with more random stuff everywhere, but in a messy cute kinda way… He has a teddy bear he got from his dad when he was a baby, right before he walked out of his life forever. He keeps it as a reminder to always do the right thing and be a better person.
32 - Do they have anyone they would consider family? Yes. Besides his mom:
Tumblr media
River Ward River is Villiam's best friend. They met on the force right after Villiam graduated from the Police Academy.
Tumblr media
Vinnie Gallo Villiam considers Vinnie to be like his older brother. And to Vinnie he's like the little brother he always wished for but never had. They may be different, but when they met through the Valentinos they both knew they had found family.
Tumblr media
Misty Olszewski and Viktor Vektor Vik is like an uncle and Misty is the most supportive friend you could ever ask for. They all met in 2076 through Jackie.
Tumblr media
Guadalupe Alejandra Welles Mamá Welles is like a second mom to Villiam. She was there for him when his real mom wasn't. She invites him over for dinner every Sunday.
Tumblr media
Songbird Songbird is Villiam's girlfriend. They're total opposites, but that only makes them both better people. Villiam is a man of few words. Songbird is a social butterfly, and loves to talk about everything and nothing. Villiam is calm, and sometimes too serious. Songbird is positive and outspoken.
Vinnie belongs to @imaginarycyberpunk2023
