Our Blood's Gone Bad
Tumblr media
summary: 18+ 1.2k homelander x queen maeve. biting. marking. hate sex. pure angst.
These days, they only fuck after they fight.
an older fic that I realized belatedly I had never actually posted to tumblr! enjoy. 🖤
Tumblr media
Somehow, no matter what choices she makes—or thinks she makes—they always end up here.
Maeve is riding Homelander on her knees, fucking herself on his cock so hard that even the reinforced steel beams of his bed are groaning. She can't remember what had sparked the argument that got them to this point, not with every snap of his hips knocking the thoughts from her mind.
She prefers it that way.
He’s sitting up, face buried in the crook of her neck. She’s the only one he can fuck like this. He can finally let go of restraint and chase as much pleasure as he wants. He can’t break her, though god knows she wants him to.
His lips brush along her skin in series of kisses, featherlight despite the brutal way they grind into one another. With a hand in his hair, Maeve gives a sharp yank. “Use your fucking teeth,” she hisses. It wrings a groan from the back of his throat.
They weren't always like this. There were times she could make love to him without needing it to hurt. Nowadays, she treats his tenderness like an insult to be immediately remedied by violence.
Viciously, he complies. He sinks his teeth into her skin, holding her firmly in place with his arms at her back, hands hooked over her shoulders. He bites until he feels her titanium skin nearly give way. He eases back just shy of cutting through it, drags his tongue across the mark it leaves. Like those that came before it, it won’t last long, but he likes to admire them while they linger. Mine.
Maeve will always be his, if only because they both know they will never find this in another person. No one else will ever be strong enough, durable enough, or damaged enough. He owns this part of her. The unbreakable woman who wants nothing more than to be shattered to pieces. Maeve isn’t satisfied. She shoves him down hard, surprising him enough to break his hold. He lays sprawled back against the bed, eyes wide and blown black with arousal. She isn’t the only one who enjoys the fight. She covers his mouth with her hand, practically shoving the side of it between his teeth. “Harder.” Breathing harshly through his nose, Homelander bites down hard, catching the meat of the side of her hand just below her pinky. He watches the way she grunts, still bouncing herself on his cock, desperately chasing her release.
He moves his hands to her thighs, taking hold of her and digging his fingers into the muscle, dull nails biting crescent-shaped wounds into her skin. That makes her moan. The sound goes straight to his cock.
“Fuck, I said harder,” she grits out, her other hand braced on his chest. Their bodies colliding sounds more like combat than sex, impact after impact.
It electrifies every cell in his body, makes him feel like he’s going to erupt with the force of an atomic bomb. He squeezes her tighter and obeys her, biting down until he feels a coppery wet gush spill into his mouth, down his chin.
Maeve gasps with it, an angelic sound compared to the usual rough grit of her voice, and her orgasm suddenly peaks. His eyes roll back, a whimper leaving him. She’s so fucking tight, seizing around him like a vice. Homelander comes hard, back arching beneath her. His ragged moan is muffled into the palm of her bleeding hand. She takes him for all he’s worth, still rolling her hips, riding out the aftershocks of her own orgasm. She takes her hand suddenly from his mouth and grips the headboard instead, her head tipping back, eyes closed. Even when he makes her come, she can’t offer the courtesy of looking him in the eye. “Maeve,” he rasps, exhaling roughly. She hasn’t so much as slowed. She’s still grinding down against him with the same fervency they began with, and his pleasure is beginning to walk the razor's edge towards pain. “Jesus fuck, Maeve– ” “Shut up,” she growls, finally looking down at him. She plants both hands on his chest, leaving a bloody handprint on his bare skin. “Would you just shut the fuck up for once.” Homelander opens his mouth to protest, to snap something equally snide, but he doesn’t get the chance. Maeve drops down and presses her lips to his.
Whatever he had thought to say dies completely, his eyes falling shut. He moves his hands from her thighs to her face, cupping it briefly before pushing them back into her long hair, holding her with all his fucking might. He can’t remember the last time she kissed him. He’s going to savor it, despite the way his spent cock aches. She’s moving too fast, too hard, eating up the way he keens into her mouth. His expression twists. It fucking hurts, but he doesn’t want it to stop. He pulls her closer to him, tangling his hands in her hair, pretending for just a moment that they still love each other. Pleasure and pain spiral up in equal measure. Homelander feels like he’s coming undone with it, muttering incoherently between needy, hungry kisses. Eventually the onslaught of sensation merges into blinding white heat that feels like the aftershock of an orgasm, a second one wrenched from him alongside a sound that comes suspiciously close to a sob.
Maeve comes again, gasping her pleasure into the wet heat between them. The spasms of her cunt pull another pained noise from him. With a heavy breath, she lifts herself off of him, rolling onto her back. She scrubs a hand over her face before letting it fall to the bed. The two of them lay like that for a long moment, Homelander collecting himself while Maeve busies herself with lighting a cigarette. He fucking hates those things, and normally he’d have something to say about it, but right now he finds himself speechless. After a few more minutes of that, she rolls off the edge of the bed, cigarette dangling between her lips, and starts getting dressed. He frowns, rolling onto his side to watch her. “Hey,” he calls, but she doesn’t look at him. “Maeve, c’mon. Stay. For a bit. For more than four fuckin’ minutes,” “I have shit to do,” she responds curtly, avoiding his gaze. He scoffs. “Getting shitfaced, you mean?” She doesn’t respond. She’s already almost fully dressed. “Oh, would you cut the crap, Maeve? You think your life is so fucking hard. You’re a god. That shit’s beneath you,” he says, giving a vague, dismissive gesture. “Stay with me. We’re good together, you know. You just don’t want to admit it.”
At that, she looks sharply at him. He can’t discern her expression. She looks tired, irritated, but there’s also something uncomfortably empty in her eyes. This time, he's is the one to look away, discomforted by the hollowness of her stare. “It wasn’t always like this," he says, a quiet petulance in his voice. “Yes it was,” she responds, the venom in her voice replaced with an aching exhaustion. She makes her way to the door. “You just don’t want to admit it.” She doesn’t slam the door, but she might as well. The sound of it echoes too loud in his ears. Homelander is left cold, alone, and bitter.

Lonely Together ( Queen Maeve x Homelander)
Tumblr media
Queen Maeve is drunk and in need of release. Homelander is only an elevator ride away.[A03 Link]
🔞(Queen Maeve x Homelander) it's alcohol + sex, what do you expect?
Tumblr media
She's drunk again. The alcohol humming through Queen Maeve's veins dulls the edge on her fraying nerves. It helps numb her existence into a familiar old pain. Something tolerable.
Yet there’s an ache between her thighs and no pretty boys in her bed. That’s tragic.
Given her state, Maeve doubts she could stumble out and find a warm body to lure back to her place. Preferably a man or woman as lonely as her, excited to tumble with Queen Maeve of all people.
But there’s all those NDAs to consider. The mountains of paperwork. That fucking paperwork.
Tumblr media
Hook-ups can never be effortless and quick for Maeve. It’s not possible as a member of The Seven. Not with how the paparazzi swarm like flies. Every movement is tracked. She’s far too sloppy and drunk to pick up a new lover or manage discretion.
Maeve’s drunk mind meanders through the options.
There’s Elena. Sweet, perfect Elena that’s one awkward phone call away, who knows her and knows the risks. She knows how to handle Maeve when she’s this muddled. Elena who knows how careful they always had to be.
The thought of Elena makes her heartache, but even as drunk as she is Maeve would never risk her. She's too precious. Homelander would kill her. Elena won’t want to see her. Elena doesn’t-
Maeve’s heart squeezes as she gulps down the last of her drink, standing slowly as her room spins.
What's a woman to do?
There is a solution close at hand. Someone who is always warm and willing, if not a bit smug.
Does that even matter? Maeve honestly has no fucks to give. She's a supe with needs.
It's only one elevator ride up to the penthouse. He’ll know the moment the elevator pings who is intruding. Who else would dare encroach on The Homelander at this hour?
Only Queen Maeve is bold enough.
"Hey babe", sarcasm drips from his tone as Homelander greets her.
She’s intoxicated. The scent is clear on the air between them. As clear to his sensitive nose as her arousal is. Maeve only visits him for this when she’s wasted.
A knowing smirk settles on Homelander’s lips as he shakes his head. "Feeling a bit lonely, are we?"
Maeve glares in response, "Shut up, asshole".
He tuts as Maeve wastes no time in closing the distance between them. Homelander shuts up and obeys all the same.
There’s no reason to talk when they both know why Maeve is here. No reason for words when they both have memorized each other's bodies with stroking fingertips and roving mouths.
She grabs the front of his suit and jerks him close. Homelander relents, amusement and something vulnerable glinting in his eyes. Maeve ignores it, focusing on plundering Homelander's mouth instead.
The groan Homelander gives as he kisses her back strokes her ego. No one would ever guess that the fucking Homelander could ever make such pathetic noises.
-and he's certainly pathetic, already pulling her close with a needy grip while letting Maeve back him onto the couch to collapse under her. Somehow he still manages to sweep his cape out of the way even as their limbs tangle.
Maeve knows exactly what to do to get him huffing and whimpering. Where to press fingertips or at what angle to grind her hips down to make Homelander moan. He's warm and willing. Homelander is an easy lay.
He always welcomes her. She's familiar. The alcohol on her breath is something he's tasted many times off her tongue. The tug of her fingers in his hair aches because she's one of the few who can almost hurt him. There's satisfaction in the pain mingled with pleasure as she rakes fingertips over his scalp, insistent as she pulls him closer.
She already knows how to free his cock from the confines of his pants, leaving the rest of his suit on. Already knows he hates shedding that extra layer of protection, even around her. Even if they’ve known each other for years.
It’s why Homelander doesn’t bother to try and free Maeve from her own armor. They’re not like that. Not anymore.
All they need are grasping holds, roving hands, panting breaths exchanged as Maeve works herself up on the length of his erection. All Homelander needs are Maev’s clever fingers pushing aside her panties and guiding his cock against her slick folds. It’s just sex.
She gains a sick sort of thrill at the expression on Homelander’s face, all twisted up and  pained-looking. It makes the pleasure of his cock stretching her inner muscles all the sweeter.
Homelander pants, head falling back as a desperate sound escapes his throat while Maeve slowly sinks onto his length. She’s the only person strong enough to keep him from plunging into that welcoming heat, her own hands holding his still on her hips.
She's a creature almost at his level. Almost an equal. Homelander hisses through his teeth, eyes flicking up to Maeve’s but hers are already shut tight. The expression on her face is of pure pleasure, relaxed for once. The only time Homelander ever can see her this way, with her guard down.
In these moments she's still his.
Homelander can pretend even if he knows her heart isn't in it. It's all he's ever known of intimacy and he'll greedily grasp for the scraps Maeve offers.
Maeve knows this. She uses it against him to get exactly what she wants. He’s a glorified dildo with a pulse and Homelander has no complaints. It’s all he’s known, being used one way or another. It’s love as far as Homelander is concerned.
There's the wet slap of flesh as Maeve works herself off on Homelander's cock. She’s properly riding him as Maeve braces both arms on the back of the couch, trapping Homelander between them. For his part, Homelander clings to her hips as he eagerly bucks up into her. It’s not sensual or controlled, but it’s familiar and soothes something primal in the both of them.
Riding Homelander’s cock like this strokes deep within Maeve across all the right spots, drawing her closer to release. It certainly pulls pleased noises from Maeve that she doesn’t care about making in her drunk state.
The noises from Homelander himself are even louder. His keen whines and groans make it clear Homelander is enjoying this, but Maeve doesn’t care.
She doesn't care if he cums or not, but he does. He cares if she cums.
Homelander grits his teeth, gripping hard enough on Maeve’s hips to shatter a normal person. He’s already shaking, control slipping even as he grapples for it.
Maeve can see how Homelander fights for control over his own body. She can feel it with every twitch of his cock buried in her.
He's determined to hold off on his release because he wants to be good for her. He won’t gain her praise, but he can do this.
Homelander is no good for so many, but he can at least be good in this moment.
-and god does it feel good. Familiar, carnal, and messy. Homelander isn't a monster under her, not when he's like this.
He's needy, broken, and keen on giving her pleasure with each desperate thrust as he matches the pace Maeve has set. In these moments she could almost like him.
Almost.

Almost all the more popular ships from The Boys are terrible actually:
Homewell - Super Grooming, self explanatory.
Noirlander - Grooming or extremely fucked up clonecest, Noir literally helped torture, train, and enable Homelander. Or you read the comic, self explanatory.
Butchlander - Super Toxic homicidal enablers. Self. Explanatory.
Butchie - Toxic, predatory behavior/grooming. Butcher literally scopes the poor kid out while he's incredibly vulnerable due to recent trauma to try and manipulate and use him for personal gain. He's reminded of his baby brother by Hughie but acts like his own father, actively trying to turn Hughie into another one of them by throwing Robin's death in his face and making his trauma worse.
Homelight/Starlander - SELF. EXPLANATORY.
Maevelander - SELF. EXPLANATORY.
Homelander/Stormfront - SELF. EXPLANATORY.
Butcher/Becca - Butcher was so codependent on Becca that it was destroying her mental health. He refused to seek professional help and just used Becca as his "cure". She never feels safe enough to tell him what happened because of it and I'm sorry but that is NOT what a wife should ever have to feel towards her own husband. If she knew a fraction of what he'd done "in her name" after she disappeared/died, she would rightfully HATE him.
Hughlander - SELF. EXPLANATORY.
Hughlight - Actually normal/good! They are the one reasonably healthy couple presented in the story. They have their issues but handle them within generally reasonable proportion and help each other be better people. Hughie is at his worst when Butcher is trying to corrupt him. Annie is at her worst when Vought is trying to corrupt her. And still they manage to beat the odds like a true power couple.
The list goes on.
No, don't you dare stop shipping your faves just because they're problematic. Have fun, that's the whole point of shipping! You can even CHANGE them or the story to make them NOT problematic.
But Unless your favorite ship from The Boys is Hughlight?
Complaining about how "problematic" the others are is BIG HYPOCRITE move.
"Well okay yeah, but THIS ship is especially terrible-"
Shut the fuck up already, they are ALL TERRIBLE! Don't try to deflect your personal guilt onto others, own up to your own bullshit!
LIKE your problematic faves, be loud and be proud about it! IT'S FICTION! The point is FUN so have it!

Last line challenge
RULES: In a new post, show the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or however many as you like).
Tagged by @bisexualhomelander, @kosmochlor, @plasticfangtastic and @deliciouskeys. Thank you for tagging me!
Tagging @digitalbath1988, @blindmagdalena (sorry if either of you has already done this and I missed it!). Also, anybody else who wants to do this and hasn't yet, consider yourself tagged <3
I need to cheat because the last thing I wrote is a chapter outline, so here's an excerpt from the second to last thing that I wrote: a Maevelander one-shot:
“Text me!” Maggie yells. “Or call. I don't give a fuck. Just don’t— don't do this, okay?” “Don’t do what?" A pair of blue eyes is staring at her uncomprehendingly.  Sometimes Maggie would love to know what's going on inside that brain. Most of the time, she just wants to drive her sword through his skull so she could stop those neurons from firing for good. But there's not a sword in the world that can do that, and all she has in her hand right now are her keys and her giant bag of groceries that she’s trying not to drop. "Don't do what?" Homelander repeats. Godfuckingdamnit. She can't tell if he’s pretending or genuinely confused. Doesn't matter. There’s a crowd of people forming behind him. “I'm off the clock, okay?” She tries to push past him, and he grabs her wrist. "Don't do what. Maeve?" He can be real stubborn, and there's that menacing tone again, subtle enough that an outsider wouldn't notice, but it's obvious to anybody who's ever spent more than five minutes with this man. The crowd is growing by the second. Wherever this man goes, people follow. The cameras can't be far behind now, Maeve thinks. She needs to handle this now. Homelander tries to cup her face, and her hoodie slips off as she tries to dodge his hand. “It's Maeve!” Somebody yells. “That's Queen Maeve!” Maeve drops her groceries, pushes the door open and pulls Homelander inside before slamming it shut. “Thanks for telling the world where I live,” she hisses. “I'm going to have to find a new apartment now.”

Headcanons about Maevelander pls?
uhhh well ok! generally speaking my headcanons are just the overall vibes and then a lot of specific scenarios or moments that they mightve had earlier in their relationship. some of which i've put into fics already... some of which i just post about silly sometimes... maybe let me see if i can mine some old shitposts from twitter for this
to me, maeve and homelander in their "good years" were menaces together. and by menaces i mean they were beloved by the public and extremely profitable for vought but totally INSUFFERABLE to everyone else working with them. like the 2 strongest beings in the world but they're on the same page and full of themselves with celebrity?? it would be sooo bad.
on that note i may have said on here before that i believe in those prime years homelander and maeve were fucking everywhere. constantly. in scenic/ridiculous locations he could fly them to, yes, but also all over the vought building
i have a vision of them fucking in madelyn's office specifically on madelyn's desk to "get back at her" for some silly thing that made them both annoyed like idk her not putting as much money into their oscar campaigns one year or something. homelander goin at maeve and she's like "hold back we're gonna break the desk" and he's like "why does that matter" and maeve says "cuz then she'll get a new one"
i dont have a superduper detailed headcanon for homelander's upbringing but one tidbit i imagine that maybe i'll flesh out in a fic some day if i can muster it is.. i love the idea that at some point when he was a teen and acting out/desperate for the Touch of a Woman, madelyn or vogelbaum or someone told him almost like a fairytale of a girl out there in the world almost as strong as him, just like him, and he would meet her some day, and give him little tidbits about her, not like her full life story but just eough that he imagines this perfect fairytale princess maggie in his head so that by the time he actually meets Maeve he's like already in love with the idea of her in his head
and as a consequence of that i think homelander is actually quite patient in seducing her like he's charming and pushy but not TOO pushy in that way that he can be because in his mind it's inevitable they will end up together and live happily ever after. and due to this charming and not steamrollery approach, that's what leads maeve to actually fall for him in the early days
obviously as they both get to know the true person of each other over the years the illusion falls apart but yeah I think that pull of "this is the one other person like me, the one person who understands me, we're destined to be together" would be reallllly intoxicating (and maybe also comforting??) for both of them
yeah idk this is a bunch already i definitely have more like scenarios and such in my head and also some thoughts about madelyn's role in engineering this relationship but also maybe regretting it down the line... maybe for other posts

1, Maevelander. 24, Butchlander.
I really had to limit myself to just two.
Meme link.
1 maevlander, genderswap
This one is not hard to picture at all. Prince Maeve (Oberon? Lol) is basically the same character, although if male would probably not be seen as an alcoholic, just a tough guy character. Femlander is still overbearing and still keeps hoping they get back together. She’s also wracked by insecurity that Vought only made her leader of the Seven for the woke points. When she overhears Maeve talking to his ex-boyfriend on the phone, she freaks out quietly, outs him on live TV, but then has to deal with bullshit questions about what their bedroom life was like while they were dating, because if people don’t really believe in bi women, they certainly don’t believe in the existence of bi men, and so it kind of backfires for Femlander, everyone online giggling about whether she had to peg Maeve and wear football shoulder pads etc.
24 butchlander, soul bonding
Lol this is bad for both of them. Would take place in a universe where soul bonding is known to exist, but far from everyone ever finds such a partner. They realize something’s up as soon as they first encounter each other at the Vought Christmas party, but Billy doesn’t want to believe it because he’s married to Becca, and HL doesn’t want to believe he’d be bonded to a mudperson. HL invites Becca to his office, but instead of raping her, or discussing the social media campaign, he mostly asks her about her husband. Becca comes home and tells Billy what happened, kind of laughing that she thinks HL might have a crush on him or something, and Billy laughs weakly and is disturbed that it wasn’t just all in his mind. They keep finding excuses to meet through Becca but don’t act on it for a while.

Homelander
Sexuality Headcanon: He's bi. Generally prefers women, and probably doesn't think of himself as bi, but he absolutely is. Gender Headcanon: 100% a cis man. A ship I have with said character: Homefront, Maevelander. A little Deeplander and Noirlander, and a little Homewell. A BROTP I have with said character: Noirlander. A NOTP I have with said character: Butchlander. I know, I know, but Butcher and his gang are just so painfully boring to me 😭 A random headcanon: He honestly tries his best at being a good dad. He wants Ryan to have what he never get to have, growing up, so sometimes he ends up going a bit overboard. This includes doing things like taking Ryan to Legoland for his birthday, and giving him an alarmingly large sum of money before letting him loose in a toy store. General Opinion over said character: I love him but good lord, get therapy. Also, I hate how the show is turning him more and more into a comic relief character, and I'm legit kind of afraid of what will happen in season four.

"Thor: For Love and Thunder"? Honestly, is Marvel just pulling titles out of their asses? And to bring back Natalie Portman? They should just leave them broken up. I never really liked her as Jane. I thought she was very wooden (and boring as hell during comic cons and panels). And to make her a female Thor?? Give me a break. JMO
Have we seeen this?

I am so damn tired, the last two weeks of the semester are always the worst. So much studying and working, the days are not long enough but I also want them to fly by so I can finally be free for a little while.
I want to go back to Maeveland. I want to finish the fic I was reading and then start the ones I have left. I want to obsess over her scenes again. I want to get angry at reddit's wrong opinions about her and about what's written on her wiki. Just fill my head with silly headcanons and fake scenarios and stop thinking about Uni and the world for a minute. I really do miss her so much, I also need a Dom rewatch in general.
And then maybe I will finally feel like watching all the shows and movies I have on my list of things to watch. Oh, and I can finally play with that one switch I got like three months ago and haven't been able to properly use.

You know, I appreciate that post clearing up the whole Maevelander relationship because I've always found Maeve's character writing to be confusing, mostly because it's never given much focus so her motives have never made total sense to me. But when she says that line about "I might be in a cell but today was still my best day because I saw you afraid", it always struck me as sorta pathetic of her to say, that seeing Homelander shaken is her "best day", but reading your post, Maeve IS actually pretty pitiful when you look past her surface-level toughness. She's what Starlight might have become if Star stayed at Vought. Maeve has been commercialized and used by Vought too, to the point she has no life outside if it after her gf dumps her over her callousness over the plane crash footage, and like you said, Homelander saw her as his property because Vought told them to be a couple because "it's what the fans want!" She even refuses to leave with Starlight in S2 despite Starlight's kindness in offering because she has nowhere else to go and fills her time with drinking and meaningless flings. It's only when Maeve "dies" that she can have a life at all. I've never thought of her that way (tbf I've never liked Maeve), but this has helped me understand her character a bit better.
always happy to shine some light! I do really love Maeve, but my major complaint IS that she was underwritten and didn't get nearly enough screen time.
you're right in that she didn't have anything outside of Vought because Homelander wouldn't let her. he likely killed or scared off anyone that got close to her, which is why Elena was such a tightly kept secret. why she broke down trying to explain to Elena that they couldn't fight him, telling her the story about the director Homelander tore apart just for taking his seat next to her.
that was her best day because for once, he was the scared one. how cathartic that must have been.
Maeve spent years just trying to survive him. it's hardly surprising she turned out the way she did. and yes, she absolutely was meant to be a reflection for Starlight and show what she could become, which is finally what really kicked Maeve's ass into gear. she didn't want to see it happen again.

BLINDMAGDALENA SUCCESSION WATCHER!! my day is made
do you ever see yourself writing any meta for the succ characters?
^ maevelander anon
ohhh hello maevelander anon!!! 🖤
i don't see myself actively joining the fandom because i don't have the same relationship with succession that i have with the boys (aka spending all my leisurely time either consuming it or reading/talking about it) so my answers aren't likely to be as informed, but i DO have a lot of opinions on it, so i'm still happy to talk about it and give my thoughts. c:

001 for Maevelander :)
* when I started shipping it if I did:
Episode 3 of season 1! They had so many good interactions. I was really intrigued by what kind of person Maeve was to be able to not only date HL, and also somehow manage to extricate herself out of a relationship with him, still be alive, and still have him clearly pining to get back together.
“See that’s what I like about you. You always tell me the truth”. And then in episode 4… the harrowing plane scene. The Boys writers say it sets up a contrast between HL and Maeve’s moralities, of course, but I thought it was also a fascinating example of someone staying silent about a serious crime because it’s their ex-partner who did it. Her evolving and increasing disgust and self-judgement as events spiral out afterwards was very interesting to watch.
* my thoughts:
I do think with each season their interactions got less satisfying 😕 But I adored morallygray!Maeve walking with the devil side by side in season 1 ❤️❤️❤️
* What makes me happy about them:
I thought Maeve was a badass female character, and I really like to think/read about how she first discovered and tapped into HL’s mental subbiness.
* What makes me sad about them:
Well, the fact that they were never really on the same page at all about the relationship is pretty sad. The scene in S3 where she tells HL that she hated him from the start makes her yet another person gaslighting him (don’t think the writers intended this scene to be tragic but it was)
* things done in fanfic that annoys me:
I have to say none of the Maevlander fics I’ve come across have annoyed me. Hypothetically, I’d be annoyed by a fic where HL was cruel and abusive to Maeve and she was meek and long-suffering.
* things I look for in fanfic:
Maeve being dominant in bed, but also Maeve being afraid of HL. The fics that pull off both of those aspects really rev me up. Also, it’s not a requirement but I’ve been delighted by the percentage of fics for this pairing that involve a pegging element— not a necessity by any means, but makes me feral.
* Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
Maeve can be with Elena if that makes her happy (maybe this is my own problem but I wish Elena were written as a more interesting character. I didn’t quite feel the chemistry.) I loved Maeve with Butcher, even though it came out of left field— but it would have been an interesting endgame, imo. For HL… he probably needs to end up with someone who genuinely loves him. Which might be impossible if he doesn’t get depowered. He’s going to have to be single dad parenting Ryan :/
* My happily ever after for them:
Homelander harvests her eggs and makes super babies via surrogate…. Juuuuust kiddingggg. I would have loved if Maeve never broke up with him but stayed on as the jaded, cool kid vaping in the bathroom while HL tries to reason with her and please her with romantic gestures, and never dumps her even though she’s undermining his clean cut earnest image and costing him points.
* who is the big spoon/little spoon:
I love HL being possessive of her, hovering around her, coming up behind her, trying to get into her space (Clarification: don’t condone irl, just compelling dynamic). He’s the big dumb eager spoon that her little spoon has to stave off periodically.
* what is their favorite non-sexual activity:
Apparently he liked weekend getaways to Europe with her. I think HL is into the glitz and PR of the relationship. But Maeve didn’t really enjoy any of that. I’d love to have had a glimpse into what HL references as understanding what it’s like for one another, being lonely at the top of the fame pyramid. Did they have quiet nights in where they watched movies and ate ice cream straight out of the pint container? We’ll probably never know from canon.
