She had always been different. That was clear in so many ways, but the one that mattered most when she was a teenaged girl was the whole dating thing. 

She understood it. She knew why the others her age went looking for someone to hold and kiss, and some part of her wanted it too, but she didn't know how. She wanted it, but she also didn't, and she couldn't make sense of that herself, let alone ask someone else to try and decipher it with her, so she didn't. She didn't have time anyway. She had her Aramente to worry about, travels to make. So she didn't. 

And then she met the people who would become her chosen family. And there she had her first ever vague attraction to someone. Sure, she had known different people to be attractive or pretty or handsome, but this wasn't like being told by someone that he was supposed to be attractive. It was confusing and new and all consuming for a time, just like him. 

He was all blue eyes and glasses and mystery. He was funny and quick-witted. He was smart. He was a little scary. He needed a hug. And he was kind to her. And that's what she got hung up on- his kindness to her and the way his beautiful eyes told so much but kept so much a secret. She was a gangly mess, naive and clumsy. People hadn't always been kind. But he was. 

But she wasn't stupid. She saw the way Pike’s cheeks dusted a light pink when he sent any praise her way. She saw the way Vex looked at him, like he was incredible (and he was). And so, she just stopped. She stopped feeling anything but brotherly love towards him. It was easy. It was just a decision she made, just to be his friend and nothing else. And she was happy.

But then there there was Vax, all dark and mysterious in his own right, who loved his sister so much his heart was on his sleeve, whether he knew it or not. Who looked at her with so much kindness, who spoke to her gently. And that's what did her in again, the kindness. 

But she didn't know what to do with it. He was all sharp edges. He flirted with everyone. So she couldn't be special. 

But then, then out of nowhere he had told her he was in love with her. 

How had he fallen in love with her? What had she possibly done to earn that? And the idea made her cheeks burn, but it wasn't the time. She thought he was handsome and kind, he was lovely. But she couldn't possibly understand how he had fallen in love with her without her knowing, without them doing any of the things people who were in love did. And it was bad timing. And she told him so. 

But then there was time. When lingering glances and conversations became light kisses on her cheek, when she reached for his hand, when there were tiny braids twisted into her hair. When she realized she fell in love right back. Cheek kisses turned into proper kisses. A hand on her lower back. A secret shared smile. It made her warm inside, it made her glow. Someone loved her. 

And she loved him too, but the words were hard to say for a while. And he never pressured her to say it back. But when her brain had wrapped itself around the idea of loving him, and she had told him, she wanted to remember that look on his face for the rest of her life. Someone loved her, and she loved him too. 

She knew what people who were in love were supposed to do. She knew how it was supposed to work in theory. But it made no sense to her. The why's and the how's she understood from a purely academic standpoint, but she couldn't understand it realistically. She never thought about it. She never looked at Vax and thought about it. And that was what made her different, and she knew it. 

And when his hand, accidentally or not, gently brushed the inside of her thigh and she jumped away, it wasn't because she didn't trust him. It wasn't because anyone had hurt her in the past. It was truly because her body didn't want that or need that. And it scared her. Because she was supposed to, wasn't she? She was supposed to want it. Was she actually broken? Probably. 

Scanlan really enjoyed running off and doing things with people that he didn't even necessarily care about, and it was so hard for Keyleth to understand as to why anyone would want that. 

But Vax didn't push her, he didn't pressure her. Even though she knew he thought about it, kind of hoped for it, he didn't make her feel like she had to do anything she wasn't ready for. He gave her time. She needed time. 

And when one day, his hand dipped under her dress, up towards her stomach, and he froze, watching her for the go ahead or the knock it off, it was all the time he gave her that made her able to nod with a shy smile. She wanted him to touch her. But like this. This was as intimate as she needed, as she wanted. Maybe it'd be more someday, but for right now this was fine. 

"You're beautiful," he had whispered, as if she were the most beautiful, incredible thing in the world. As if he had seen more of her than she was willing to show at the moment. It made her feel tingly from her head to her feet, just his hand on her stomach under her clothes. He didn't view her as different or broken. He thought she was special. He always thought she was special. 

And eventually, it was more than that. She had worked up to it, they had worked up to it. It was slow and he was so, so patient, so gentle. He asked her constantly if she was alright, assured her that they could stop whenever she wanted in that soft, gentle voice he reserved for her and her alone. 

Honestly, there was no interest there. What they were doing, truly, meant very little to her. Her body reacted the way it was designed, but her brain cared more about his kind words, his gentleness. It was him- his sharp wit and his soft eyes and his genuine interest in what she thought, what she felt- that she craved. This, this physical bit, she could take it or leave it. She didn't mind it. She was willing to do it, but not for her. For him. And not because she was pressured, but because she wanted him to be happy too. She would be happy without it. But his brain wasn't different like hers. 

She didn't hate it. She wasn't scared. It was just… something to do. But nothing she thought about on her own. And thinking about it too much gave her a headache. 

And when she had burst into tears due to her confusion over herself and her body and her heart in the middle of everything and he had fussed over her, worried he'd hurt her, it was hard to explain that her brain was broken and sex wasn't something she really thought about and she was so sorry, she wasn't expecting a gentle hand to brush away tears, to cup her cheek. She was expecting to be told off, to be asked to leave, for him to never touch her again. 

She wasn't expecting him to seemingly understand that she didn't fully understand her thoughts and feelings. She wasn't expecting him to assure her it was alright. That he loved her for who she was, he loved her honesty, he loved how much she trusted him to tell him, he loved her so much. She wasn't expecting to be told that he was fine with that, that her brain wasn't broken, and he would happily live the rest of his life without touching her like that again. And he would be happy anyways, because he would be with her. 

She stumbled over her words again trying to explain that she didn't mind it. She would do it. She wasn't afraid, she just didn't think of him like that very often. But she was willing. Physically, despite not understanding the appeal at face value, she had to admit it did… feel nice. She liked that part. She would do it again. Her cheeks were red and she felt shy.

He laughed at that, kissing her gently. "Only if you really want to, KiKi, okay? You are always allowed to tell me no, and you never have to give a reason." 

And then there was more snuggles, more hugs, more handholding, more soft touches and kisses- the kind of affection she wholeheartedly loved to give and receive. And he was happy. Because she was happy. And she loved him. She loved him so much. 

And sometimes, his hand would drift somewhere and she'd push it away, sometimes they would be kissing and it would get too much for her and she'd ask him to stop. And he never seemed offended or hurt. He always listened. He always respected her boundaries even if they changed from day to day or hour to hour. 

But sometimes, she'd nod at him. Sometimes she'd tell him that it was alright, that he could keep going. Sometimes, after doing it enough times when she had learned what she was supposed to do, sometimes she'd pull him close for a kiss that was too hard to just be a kiss. Sometimes, she would roll over on top of him and watch his face change and laugh. Because sometimes, she wanted to do all that too. Because she loved him. And sometimes, now that she was comfortable and felt so safe with him, with herself, she enjoyed it, for herself. 

But no matter what happened, no matter how they touched or if they did at all, Vax always looked at her like she was the most wonderful thing. Always told her she was beautiful. Always treated her with so much love and respect. He loved her so much that she didn't feel broken anymore. Different, sure. But different was not broken.

A sleepy kiss to a freckled shoulder meant just as much to him as it did to her. Because intimacy could take on so many different forms. And just being together was the most important part.

One thing about daemon x machina that bothers me is that the rookie shows up and within (presumably) days maybe months starts absolutely BODY-ING ace pilots like Savior, Reaper, Nameless, and all of terrors, and everyone is just like "oh way really promising baby upstart" instead of "oh you REGULARLY win 3 on 1s against everyone we're TERRIFIED of you"

Assassin's Creed x Dreaming of Sunshine brainstorm/fake fic summaries/spring cleaning (2023-03-18)

Back when I was in the throes of my Could/Should/Actually phase, I was also reading a lot of esama’s Assassin’s Creed fic and my brain, as per usual, went: but what if DoS? And so it started churning different types of crossovers which I lightly noted down but never pursued. I then ran into chamiryokuroi’s art, specifically that of Desmond’s son Elijah, who kind of has the memories/personality of an Isu in him. THEN those earlier notes that were percolating in my head then scrambled a bit because instead of separate AUs, my brain just smooshed them all together and then also brought up the critical point that was stopping me earlier:

In an Assassin’s Creed AU/crossover, the nearest equivalent to Desmond—genetically crafted by the Isu (who humans know as gods, aka Minerva, Juno, etc) in order to be at the right place at the right time—isn’t Shikako or even Naruto, but Sasuke. Especially going with wafflelate’s idea that the different Mangekyo Sharingan powers (also named after gods!) are indicative of different Uchiha lineages with a slight extrapolation that multiple lineages merging earlier on is why Sasuke (and Itachi) has so many different Sharingan powers. Oh, also, Desmond has something called the Eagle Eye which basically gives him psychic powers like the Sharingan.

Although, speaking of Itachi. I guess what I should have said is that the nearest equivalent to Desmond is actually Itachi—the perfect son who has all the tools and all the abilities and all the expectations of the world—while Sasuke is the spare, aka Clay (who had some of the lineages that the bad guys wanted but not all of them and not as much). Although, you know, not as bleak a future… And that’s about as much as I know of Assassin’s Creed because like many things, I mostly know it through fanfiction, fanart, and watching my friend play ACIII nearly a decade ago.

Anyways, with that in mind. My brain continued that since I wanted both sets of characters to exist as opposed to shoving Team Seven into the AC plot, that I should figure out what Team Seven was doing while the AC plot is going on since, you know, the sun burning up the planet is a pretty big deal. So obviously the sun is a problem, but presumably Minerva via Desmond had that covered. Either they fail and everyone’s dead anyway, or they succeed but there’s other stuff that needs to be considered. Such as: THE MOOOOOOOOOOON. But in all seriousness, I don’t super know how it would work, but even if Minerva via Desmond protects the planet from the initial massive solar flare, wouldn’t there be lingering excess energy or a secondary blast/wave reflected off the moon? I don’t know enough about pseudo science to know if my pseudo science makes sense.

Regardless. Excess energy or secondary wave on the side of the planet that has the moon, aka, Japan in the middle of the night (since I think the solar flare happened in the morning in New York?) And it’s pretty thematic, for Naruto canon at least, that the moon is the problem (whether or not we want to bring up Kaguya’s alien nonsense… although that is a pretty good equivalent for Juno’s evil in the AC side)

Anyway, the reason why chamiryokuroi’s art reinitiated this brainstorm is that, hey, obviously I love when Shikako is an OP almost literal deus ex machina. And Elijah almost literally has a “god” in him. Which Shikako also has had, or maybe the reverse, what with Gelel. And then whatever her beef with Jashin is. So either the Isu that Shikako has is Gelel (which is much kinder and benign that who Elijah is stuck with) or it’s “Shikabane-hime” and the personality sort of… glitched so that instead of taking over the body, muahahaha, style it just grew up as a person as in DoS. Although I’m a little handwaving how AC Sages work since apparently that relies on lineages/genetics (even though it somehow skipped Desmond but Elijah is one?) So either Shikako is an “artificial” Sage via picking up the Gelel stone or she’s a “natural” Sage and Shikabane-hime is just a chill Isu instead of the other muahahahaha evil Isu.

Then, to make Naruto match, what if, instead of Pieces of Eden (alien technology that seems like magic) the Isu on this hemisphere went with the bijuu? Maybe they were originally created to absorb the excess solar energy but over the millennia developed sentience. Or maybe they always had sentience which is what caused the Sage of Six Paths to rebel against the other gods (and also the human slavery en masse might have contributed) and while the bijuu remember the early days humans with their ever short lives forgot and so the bijuu grew bitter and resentful etc. etc.

So that’s the world building.

The plot of this fic I’m probably not going to write is actually my way of combining the three different AUs I thought of for the Could/Should/Actually and incorporating it into the above world building:

Subject Seven, like many of Desmond’s predecessors, died before they could ever meet. Whatever she learned in the Animus she never told Vidic or, at least, it never made it onto any Abstergo files.

STAY CALM. DON’T REACT. Desmond can’t tell if this is a new twist to the Bleeding Effect or if he’s unlocked something else in his Eagle Vision, but now he’s reading the shadows on the walls and that can’t be normal.

“Juno, huh,” says the girl in green, the only spot of color in the vast expanse of The Grey. “I had Jashin.”

Obviously, the way to fix 1 is simply Shikako faked her death and escaped. Or even Abstergo’s internal communications between departments is garbage and the team that was working on Sages just up and yoinked her from the Animus project. And also, what’s kinda fun about this (in a horrifying people being experimented on against their will kind of way) is that in order for Shikako to be Subject Seven while Desmond is Subject Seventeen and not have her be so much older than him (or even so much older than what I'm used to seeing her as in DoS, although this coming from me who writes future fic, lol) that means she was very young when she was Subject Seven. So we could have canonically badass twelve-fourteen year old Shikako in this seemingly normal world and then she has a full decade of being badass in time to help with Desmond’s side.

Although, in order to best incorporate 2 and 3, what an author who is not me could imply is that she died for realsies and ended up in The Grey (which from my understanding is like the coding space behind the world where Calculations aka sealing is done and might also be the afterlife but perhaps is only the afterlife specifically for Juno who hid herself in technology so that she could pop out millennia after all the other Isu had died and fuck with humanity). And from the Grey she can manipulate shadows, as in 2, and also meet Desmond “in person” as in 3 when he dies after the planet saving thing he does in AC canon.

And then the fun reveal is that, hey, The Grey isn’t actually an afterlife. It’s a pocket dimension from where you can manipulate the real world through strength of will. I’m not dead and neither are you, also would you like to meet my friends I feel like they could probably help you deal with the fact that your entire existence was a manipulation by beings that died over 75000 years ago because they have similar experiences. Would I have more relevant/similar experiences having been an Animus subject and having been in The Grey? Maybe, but I also contain the personality/memories of an Isu and I wouldn’t want to make you uncomfortable.

Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted is one way to interpret the creed. A more accurate way would be to say Nothing is Immutable, Everything is Possible, but that’s just not as catchy. Or, the Isu had their Calculations, but Shikako has sealing and that’s way more fun.

Favourite supergirl episodes from any season??

Hey! I haven't done a proper rewatch in years, so these are the "good" episodes from the show.

S1 - Pilot, livewire, red faced (if only for the rage scream scene), human for a day, the girl who has everything, fallout, World finest (still the best supergirl/flash crossover) better angels.

S2 - the adventures of supergirl, the last children of krypton, crossfire, medusa, luthors, exodus, ace reporter, alex, nevertheless she persisted.

S3- Girl of Steel, triggers, damage, midvale(!!!), crisis on earth x(the best all shows crossover imo), reign, fort rozz, for good, of two minds, trinity, (from here on they all kinda blur together tbh)

S4 - American Alien (Nia Nal, my beloved), fallout, (I didn't really need this episode, but it was still a good episode) Man of steel, rather the fallen angel, bunker hill, suspicious minds, blood memory, o brother where art thou?(kelly olsen my beloved), House of L(!!), all about eve, american dreamer, will the real miss tessmacher please stand up?, red dawn, the quest for peace.

S5 - (sigh), event horizon, blurred lines, confidence women, tremors, the wrath of rama khan (if only for fortress scene), the bottle episode(fooled once again), it's a super life (!!!), reality bytes, alex in wonderland, deux lex machina, immortal kombat.

S6 - (sigh) rebirth, prom night, prom again, welcome back Kara, blind spots (i will not accept slander about this episode), the gauntlet, magical thinking, i believe in a thing called love, all the domestic supercorp scenes s6b gave me, and the dansen wedding, and that moment in certain funeral when certain ship was burried 6 feet down... and that's about s6.

If I had to select from those, from the top of my head as favorites: the girl who has everything, fallout, the adventures of supergirl, medusa, luthors, damage, midvale, house of L, it's a super life, immortal kombat, rebirth, welcome back kara, blind spots, the gauntlet, i believe in a thing called love.

Another ACosplay, this time the insanely obvious Zowort Heavy from G-Witch! When the base Zowort was first shown off lots of people were comparing the design to that of an AC design, but it wasn't until the Heavy that I actually agreed. The Heavy looks like a straight up AC rip off, ngl.

You'd think that'd make recreating it in an actual AC game real easy and... you'd be half right. At least here in AC6, the body was pretty easy (though it annoys me, despite how much better AC6's visual customizations are, that there's still such a MH like restriction to what gets colored together, so separating the feet as totally different colors from the legs is impossible without using decals to cover up the feet in the preferred color), and had good easy options. But the WEAPONS. Yeesh. Despite how AC looking the weapons on the Heavy already are, AC6 is a newer game with newer visual design ethos and as a result nothing is as "simple" looking as AC is often known for. While it is true that the weapons in G-Witch are all energy weapons (with few exceptions), the energy weapons in AC6 don't feel right to the ZW's very simple boxy backpack guns and rifle. BUT NOTHING ELSE FIT ANYWAY.

Honestly trying to do cosplay builds is making me realize that there's no good photo mode in the game. Sure there's a simple, VERY simple photo mode in the assembly menu. But there's no options to change the background, the lighting, have the unit in "active" state with all the weapons primed, or put into other poses. And unless I'm blind there's nothing in game where you can like, pause, then go into a photo mode to take shots of the action.

Daemon x Machina and MASS Builder out here spoiling me for photo taking of mechs then the OG video game mech series comes back and totally drops the ball on a photo mode. Boo.
