The one thing I have about Loveywalker as an AU is that the whole thing is sparked by Ladybug deciding, fuck it, I’m in love with Chat Noir, right? So it throws me off every time she’s portrayed as being in love with Catwalker. Like eventually I can see it but I feel like at first she’d be like “you are not my cat where is my cat!”

chat noir calls ladybug up on their superhero phones to meet up for patrol and she’s like ok!! but loveybug keeps showing up instead and the first time it happens he thinks he got the wrong magic phone number and he’s like aw bummer 😞 maybe next time ill get it right! 👆 but then a cycle starts where he keeps texting and calling ladybug to meet and she sounds so normal over the phone but whenever they meet up she’s loveybug and she keeps hanging mistletoe over their heads (‘tis the season!) and pointing at it to let him know they’re standing under mistletoe. he thinks she must’ve gotten swapped with his ladybug from some alternate universe but it’s HIS lady she just can’t transform into anything BUT loveybug when she anticipates seeing him because she’s got down bad disorder

the thing about loveybug and chat noir we don’t discuss enough is that the second he realizes that his lady is gone he’s going to scream and cry and throw up. and probably try to be mad at loveybug just for existing and not being ladybug but of course lovey makes it impossible to be mad at her with her puppy eyes and sweet smile.

and since imo being loveybug highlights marinette’s more… headstrong features like diving headfirst into loving someone, she would be quick to turn the tables on chat noir and be the one to sacrifice herself all the time for him, stressing him out EVEN MORE cause he can’t lose TWO amazing bug partners his abandonment issues can’t take it

Kiss on a dare

In honour of Loveybug Week (today is Loveynoir day!) decided to try my hand at a little loveybug AU for this one...

It seemed ironic, that a pink, sparkly blast from an Akuma's gun might spell out the end for a girl who herself was sparkly pink personified. But the fear that sliced through Chat's heart didn't find that fact particularly funny or clever. "Loveybug, watch out!" He'd thrown himself into the air before the words had left his lips, and now barreled into her side--a moment too late. As they tumbled across the asphalt, a giant pink glow engulfed them both. A tickle ran up Chat's spine as they rolled to a stop, Loveybug pinned beneath him, her eyes widened in an uncharacteristic display of fear. After nearly an hour spent fighting this villain, they both knew well enough what being caught by Truth-Or-Dare meant. There was no escape. The Akuma cackled. "Well, well, well. What will it be for our heroes? Truth or--" "Dare!" Chat shouted, knowing there was no other choice. Truth might mean sacrificing their identities, and he couldn't ever do that. Not so long as he was still holding out for Ladybug to come back. The shimmering air deepened to fushia as the orb around him and Loveybug tightened; his decision applied to them both. "Dare? Oh, that's too easy." A gleeful chuckle sounded. "I dare you to kiss." Chat Noir's blood ran cold. And then, as Loveybug's lips morphed into a smirk, his whole body went hot. He didn't know how to feel. "Don't worry," Loveybug said, pushing herself up onto her elbows beneath him. Chat instinctively pulled back in response. "This is easy." "L-Lovey, I--" Her smile wavered--for the tiniest moment--into an adorable pink pout. "Don't you trust me?" "I--" She cut him off by pushing hard against his chest, knocking him sideways and rolling on top of him in one fell swoop. It seemed insane that she'd fumbled ten Lucky Charms in a row, only for her coordination to be perfect for the art of seduction. Her legs tightened around his hips. Chat Noir swallowed. And yet...he did trust her. He could only feel safe as her hand rose up slowly, brushing through his hair before landing on one of his cat ears, taking it between her thumb and forefinger and giving a gentle rub. He had to suppress a purr. "It's not too late, Minou. We could still change to Truth..." "But...our identities..." She tilted her head. "We'd figure a way out. I know we would. I just..." Her fingers trailed down the side of his face, tenderly cupping his cheek. "I don't want to do anything you're not comfortable with." And that was just the thing. It scared Chat Noir how much he wanted this. (Even if he sometimes still felt a pang at the sight of pink hearts where there should be black spots. Or if he sometimes felt an overwhelming sadness when he mistook Loveybug's pony tail for one of his lady's pigtails.) "I'm comfortable," he assured her. The gravel digging into his back didn't count. Her smile widened. "Well then..." Chat Noir raised his head as she lowered hers, lips seeking lips, his heart running wild in his chest. But at the last moment, Loveybug swerved, placing a quick kiss on his nose before pulling back. He blinked up in confusion, and she laughed. "Not like this, mon chaton," she said as the colour around them fizzelled out. His nose still tingled where she'd left her mark. "When we kiss, I want you to mean it." She bounced to her feet, in a flash of pink and sparkles--a magic that was purely her own, so much softer than the Akuma's pull. But Chat Noir felt just as entranced as before.

“You’re not Ladybug,” is the first thing Loveybug hears, and she turns around, her lips curled in the smile she always kept hidden as Ladybug, delighted to see Chat Noir. He doesn’t seem to be sharing her joy in the slightest, but her smile hardly falters. 

“Of course not! I’m Loveybug!” She says, taking in every feature of his face. Oh dear, how had she never appreciated him before? Everything from the golden locks of his hair, down to his bell, suit, and tail was beautiful. She really ought to have given more attention to him. “Have I ever told you, you’re really beautiful?” She asked genuinely. Chat Noir continued staring at her, dare she say, glaring? 

“No, you haven’t, because we’ve never met before, because you’re not Ladybug,” Chat gritted out. Loveybug giggled.

Ha! I think my brain decided to take "my poor little meow meow" and "kissy kissy meow meow" and stuck them in a blender together until "my Meow Meow" suddenly became Loveybug's de facto way of referring to Chat Noir as I was writing that ficlet. I wholeheartedly approve of anyone else using that pet name, Chat is indeed her "Meow Meow" 😻

Loveybug and Cat Walker’s partnership proved way more stable than the short-lived LoveyNoir, as Alya had taken to call them. Since Marinette didn’t know how comfortable Cat Walker was with physical contact, she limited herself to shameless flirting - which he accepted with mild and polite amusement, making her feel like he didn’t take them seriously. They weren’t so in sync that their banter was as smooth as Ladybug and Chat’s, but the irony of the reversal of roles wasn’t lost on her. Unfortunately he didn’t seem to like puns as much as Chat, no matter how hard she kept trying, so all her research on that front was for naught. At first the over the top flirting had been something of a bit, really – as Loveybug, she couldn’t really help the gooey eyes she made at soft, gentle, ridiculously handsome boys, so she did what she could to keep the tone light and not seem too much of a lovestruck idiot. Which she wasn’t. Really! Then the gifts started.

thinking about loveybug’s urge to sacrifice and chat noir’s abandonment issues… so i wrote this little loveynoir oneshot to convey the Dynamic. set after chat has started the trust loveybug but before they’ve really started to shamelessly flirt:

“Ha, I’ve got you right where I want you, Chat Noir!” The akumatized villain, an angry young woman who just got fired and was now making it Paris’ problem, smirks from her vantage point and sends a missile towards the hero.

Loveybug, who had been trying to stay under the radar after the last missile sent her way by pretending she’d been hit, leaps into action from her hiding spot.

“Kitty, watch out!” She yells, alerting him of her presence just as she deflects the missile with her yoyo and starts raging toward the villain. Loveybug glances back to make sure Chat’s okay, and in that moment another missile comes flying toward her. He dives in front of her to hit it away, using his stick like a baseball bat and hitting the villain with it head on.

“Wow, nice hit,” she gushes. “I’d say that was a home run, wouldn’t you?” She leans into him.

“Loveybug, this is serious! You need to be looking out for yourself too, not just me. As much as I appreciate it…” Chat rubs the back of his neck, blushing a little.

“Well, somebody’s got to!” She giggles, leaving out the ‘since you have no regard for your OWN safety’ she would’ve added as Ladybug.

“I-“ Chat wants to be mad, wants to give her a piece of his mind for making him worry more on top of already worrying about where the real Ladybug was. But she’s looking up at him so earnestly and her big doe eyes are piercing through every wall he tries to put up. He sighs. “Just… be more careful for me, okay?”

“I’ll try anything for you, kittycat.” Loveybug grins and hops away from a piece of rubble that comes flying at her.

The villain lets out a vicious scream, clearly mad about getting hit by her own beam. Chat Noir puts a hand around Loveybug’s waist and pulls her in, taking off with her to find a new place to hide and make a plan. The villain is hot on their heels, however, and the second they get to the ground she is sending another missile right at Chat, whose head is turned in the opposite direction. Loveybug, without thinking, shoves him to the ground and dives forward, right toward the missile heading for them.

The world turns to slow motion as Chat watches her trajectory with wide eyes.

“What did I just say? I won’t lose you too!” Chat Noir shouts, using his stick to fling himself forward and tackle Loveybug in midair. They tumble to the ground together, Chat trying to use his own body to protect her fall.

Loveybug gapes up at him for a moment, still in his protective grasp. The look on his face is downright tortured, and she furrows her brows.

“Sorry, kittycat, but I was only trying to keep you safe!”

“That’s my job.” Chat Noir says firmly. Loveybug wants to argue, wants to apprehend him for having such a low view of his purpose in the fight, but his intense, worried stare is making her melt. Maybe she did understand after all why he was so quick to sacrifice himself for Ladybug- the feeling of getting to come back. The relief in his eyes was enough for her.

“You’ll never lose me, Chat Noir,” says Loveybug, putting a gentle hand on his face. He leans into her touch, never able to resist that smile, but then sighs and pulls himself off her.

“Yeah. That’s what Ladybug said too.”
